Its adjusted net revenue as a percentage of GMV is 12%, while its take rate has risen threefold since 2018, better than Alibaba.
\n
“Grab has the potential to be re-rated as an all-encompassing super app like Alibaba. It is becoming a one-stop shop for ride-hailing, food delivery, payments and other services. The current valuation does not reflect its potential as a super-app,” says Tiruchelvam.
\n
Grab has three main segments — deliveries, mobility and financial services. Tiruchelvam expects the company’s delivery GMV to rise by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 42% in FY20 to 24, assuming the ratio of GMV monetisation to be 15%.
\n
The mobility revenue is expected to rise by a CAGR of 32% in FY20 to FY24. Tellimer assumes the ratio of GMV monetisation to gradually increase from 18% in FY20 to 24% by FY24.
\n
Grab’s financial services total payment volume is expected to grow at a CAGR of 43% in FY20 to FY24.
\n
The tech company’s operating margins for FY20 were -298.3%. Tiruchelvam estimates Grab’s operating margins to improve and turn positive during the forecast period, expecting it to reach 30% by FY24.
\n
In his risk analysis, Tiruchelvam says Grab may face serious business risks as its business segments are still in the early stages of growth. The food delivery business, for instance, is still in its infancy. Major international players such as Meituan Dianping may enter the market and undercut Grab.
\n
The end of the pandemic may also weaken the demand for food delivery and therefore affect the company’s growth trajectory, he adds.
\n
“Despite the progress in vaccination, there have been renewed restrictions in some Asean countries including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. This could adversely affect Grab’s business, financial condition, results of operations and prospects,” says Tiruchelvam.
\n
There is also the risk of a vastly disproportionate voting share of its founder Anthony Tan, says Tiruchelvam. “Its founder Anthony Tan Tan holds 3.7% of the shares in the company by virtue of his 183 million Class B Shares. Its adjusted net revenue as a percentage of GMV is 12%, while its take rate has risen threefold since 2018, better than Alibaba.\n“Grab has the potential to be re-rated as an all-encompassing super app like Alibaba. It is becoming a one-stop shop for ride-hailing, food delivery, payments and other services. The current valuation does not reflect its potential as a super-app,” says Tiruchelvam.\nGrab has three main segments — deliveries, mobility and financial services. Tiruchelvam expects the company’s delivery GMV to rise by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 42% in FY20 to 24, assuming the ratio of GMV monetisation to be 15%.\nThe mobility revenue is expected to rise by a CAGR of 32% in FY20 to FY24. Tellimer assumes the ratio of GMV monetisation to gradually increase from 18% in FY20 to 24% by FY24.\nGrab’s financial services total payment volume is expected to grow at a CAGR of 43% in FY20 to FY24.\nThe tech company’s operating margins for FY20 were -298.3%. Tiruchelvam estimates Grab’s operating margins to improve and turn positive during the forecast period, expecting it to reach 30% by FY24.\nIn his risk analysis, Tiruchelvam says Grab may face serious business risks as its business segments are still in the early stages of growth. The food delivery business, for instance, is still in its infancy. Major international players such as Meituan Dianping may enter the market and undercut Grab.\nThe end of the pandemic may also weaken the demand for food delivery and therefore affect the company’s growth trajectory, he adds.\n“Despite the progress in vaccination, there have been renewed restrictions in some Asean countries including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. This could adversely affect Grab’s business, financial condition, results of operations and prospects,” says Tiruchelvam.\nThere is also the risk of a vastly disproportionate voting share of its founder Anthony Tan, says Tiruchelvam. “Its founder Anthony Tan Tan holds 3.7% of the shares in the company by virtue of his 183 million Class B Shares. This includes 28 million shares from co-founder Tan Hooi Ling and 18 million shares from Grab president Ming Ma – these shares are beneficially owned by Tan.\n“Each Class B share equals 45 votes, while each Class A share is equal to one vote. Accordingly, Tan controls more than 60% of the voting shares after the merger with Altimeter. This disproportionate voting share for the founder is familiar to many tech companies, including Facebook and Alphabet.”\nBesides Tiruchelvam, JP Morgan’s Ranjan Sharma has also initiated coverage on the stock with an \"overweight\" call and US$12.50 target price.JP Morgan is one of the banks that helped arrange Grab's listing.\nGrab closed 81 cents lower or 9.11% down at US$8.08 on Dec 9.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1264,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":605300076,"gmtCreate":1639107319838,"gmtModify":1639107595991,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Peloton Interactive, Inc.(PTON)$i forgot to buy my pton puts[Cry] ","listText":"$Peloton Interactive, Inc.(PTON)$i forgot to buy my pton puts[Cry] ","text":"$Peloton Interactive, Inc.(PTON)$i forgot to buy my pton puts[Cry]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/605300076","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":952,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":601405494,"gmtCreate":1638544983279,"gmtModify":1638544983400,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$PTON 20211203 44.0 PUT(PTON)$Shorting PTON weekly is like free money now","listText":"$PTON 20211203 44.0 PUT(PTON)$Shorting PTON weekly is like free money now","text":"$PTON 20211203 44.0 PUT(PTON)$Shorting PTON weekly is like free money now","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c14894903bd50318e0fb4ec0eaea4ccc","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/601405494","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":822,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":601542061,"gmtCreate":1638544108881,"gmtModify":1638544153840,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Overvalued stocks starting to crumble","listText":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Overvalued stocks starting to crumble","text":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Overvalued stocks starting to crumble","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36e3064f3d0eaae3b78e48b5dcd1e9f5","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/601542061","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1124,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":601696434,"gmtCreate":1638519107175,"gmtModify":1638519107253,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"It is the next tesla. 1 trllion here we go. The electric vehicle start-up just went public at a market cap north of $100 billion, which is astounding considering the fact it has never generated any sales. With the rise of Tesla, the market leader in electric vehicles, to a market cap north of $1 trillion recently, the excitement around this new industry has reached a fever pitch.
\n
While Rivian's prospectus is exciting, and the company is going after a huge market opportunity, the price one must pay for all this potential is simply too much to ask. Here are a few reasons why investors need to stay far away from Rivian stock right now.
\n
\n
The company is pre-revenue
\n
At a most basic level, Rivian is not a suitable company to invest in at a market cap of $106 billion because it has never generated any revenue, let alone profits or free cash flow. According to its S-1, which is the SEC filing companies are required to put out before going through an initial public offering (IPO), Rivian produced 12 vehicles in the third quarter, all of which were sold to employees.
\n
By the end of 2021, it expects to produce 1,200 R1Ts (an electric truck), and by the end of 2023, it expects to produce 55,400 total vehicles, which would clear out its current backlog of orders. If Rivian sells these vehicles at an average price of $67,500, the standard cost on its website for the R1T right now, it will generate around $3.7 billion in revenue from now until the end of 2023. With $1.7 billion in negative free cash flow in the first six months of this year, this hypothetical $3.7 billion in revenue would not even come close to covering Rivian's current expense base (which will likely grow as it starts manufacturing at scale). It will likely take three to five years, if not longer, for Rivian to start generating positive free cash flow for shareholders.
\n
Manufacturing cars is a tough business
\n
Rivian's current installed base is for 65,000 R1Ts and 85,000 RCVs (its commercial van), giving it the capacity to generate 150,000 cars a year. Assuming a ballpark average selling price of $67,500 for all these vehicles, that would be over $10 billion in annual revenue for Rivian once it reaches scale. One might assume at this revenue and manufacturing level Rivian would be profitable. But that is misguided thinking.
\n
If we look at Tesla, its closest competitor that is a pure-play electric vehicle manufacturer, it only got close to free cash flow breakeven in 2018 when it delivered 245,000 vehicles. Manufacturing cars is expensive, and investors in Rivian shouldn't expect profit margins to be very high, even once Rivian reaches any sort of maturity a decade from now. Rivian needs to start ramping up its vehicle deliveries, and fast, in order to get anywhere close to fulfilling a market cap of $106 billion.
\n
Every automaker is all-in on electric
\n
One reason Tesla was able to grow unabated for so long is that no other company was taking electric vehicles seriously. This is not the market environment we are currently in. The big car manufacturers along with Tesla and other pure-play electric vehicle start-ups are all investing tens of billions to compete over the next decade.
\n
Ford has committed $11.4 billion to invest in battery and electric vehicle manufacturing in the U.S. Toyota has committed $13.5 billion to battery development and production alone. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Over the next five years, competition for electric vehicles will be fierce. Starting at a standstill, Rivian has a tough hill to climb if it wants to gain significant market share in the electric vehicle market.
\n
Don't forget about the company
\n
Rivian's stock would likely be overvalued even if it got a 95% haircut, but the company can still go on your watch list if you are bullish on the electric vehicle industry. With $17 billion in cash on its balance sheet after the IPO, a 100,000 fleet order for electric delivery vans going to Amazon, and a sleek-looking truck, Rivian has a chance to grow quickly over the next five years. But paying for the stock at this valuation for the chance that happens when the company is pre-revenue is not a smart bet for investors to make.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Investors Need to Stay Far Away From Rivian (for Now)
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Investors Need to Stay Far Away From Rivian (for Now)\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-03 15:35 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
One of the hottest companies in the investing universe right now is Rivian. Starting at a standstill, Rivian has a tough hill to climb if it wants to gain significant market share in the electric vehicle market.\nDon't forget about the company\nRivian's stock would likely be overvalued even if it got a 95% haircut, but the company can still go on your watch list if you are bullish on the electric vehicle industry. With $17 billion in cash on its balance sheet after the IPO, a 100,000 fleet order for electric delivery vans going to Amazon, and a sleek-looking truck, Rivian has a chance to grow quickly over the next five years. But paying for the stock at this valuation for the chance that happens when the company is pre-revenue is not a smart bet for investors to make.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":859,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603272725,"gmtCreate":1638419841044,"gmtModify":1638419841290,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$once it gets bank charter it should be valued similar to bank stocks, PE of 10-15","listText":"$SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$once it gets bank charter it should be valued similar to bank stocks, PE of 10-15","text":"$SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$once it gets bank charter it should be valued similar to bank stocks, PE of 10-15","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603272725","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1448,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603695861,"gmtCreate":1638403799037,"gmtModify":1638403799207,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Speculative stocks falling","listText":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Speculative stocks falling","text":"$AFRM 20211210 120.0 PUT(AFRM)$Speculative stocks falling","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dc52abfa1abf6e8b1def1bc50939db74","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603695861","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":770,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603115403,"gmtCreate":1638373134064,"gmtModify":1638373134273,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$HOOD 20211231 25.0 PUT(HOOD)$The way to make money with hood is to short.
This disproportionate voting share for the founder is familiar to many tech companies, including Facebook and Alphabet.”\nBesides Tiruchelvam, JP Morgan’s Ranjan Sharma has also initiated coverage on the stock with an \"overweight\" call and US$12.50 target price.JP Morgan is one of the banks that helped arrange Grab's listing.\nGrab closed 81 cents lower or 9.11% down at US$8.08 on Dec 9.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1264,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603115403,"gmtCreate":1638373134064,"gmtModify":1638373134273,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$HOOD 20211231 25.0 PUT(HOOD)$The way to make money with hood is to short. Still, investors were surprised to learn officials were mulling rate hikes earlier than 2024.\n\"At first blush, the dot plot which projected two hikes by 2023 was more hawkish than expected, and markets reacted as such,\" said Daniel Ahn, chief U.S. economist at BNP Paribas.\nThe benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose on the Fed news, while the dollar index , which tracks the greenback against six major currencies, rose to a six-week peak.\nWith inflation rising faster than expected and the economy bouncing back quickly, the market had been looking for clues of when the Fed may alter the policies put into place last year to combat the economic fallout from the pandemic, including a massive bond-buying program.\nThe Fed reiterated its promise to await \"substantial further progress\" before beginning to shift to policies tuned to a fully open economy. It also held its benchmark short-term interest rate near zero and said it will continue to buy $120 billion in bonds each month to fuel the economic recovery.\n\"Chair Powell has signaled, while the committee is not yet ready to taper, it is now in the minds of the committee. They've retired the phrase 'thinking about thinking about tapering', and we expect that in the next few meetings, the committee will likely formally start discussions of tapering,\" BNP's Ahn said.\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 265.66 points, or 0.77%, to 34,033.67, the S&P 500 lost 22.89 points, or 0.54%, to 4,223.7 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 33.17 points, or 0.24%, to 14,039.68.\nOnly two of the S&P's 11 main sector indexes ended in positive territory: consumer discretionary and retail.\nThe decliners were led by utilities, materials, and consumer staples.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 10.90 billion shares, compared with the 10.38 billion average over the last 20 trading days.\nThe S&P 500 posted 25 new 52-week highs and 1 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 95 new highs and 30 new lows.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":43,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":875411629,"gmtCreate":1637678623775,"gmtModify":1637678640655,"author":{"id":"3573388909005978","authorId":"3573388909005978","name":"MasterZheng","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573388909005978","authorIdStr":"3573388909005978"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a
