happened\nShares of creativity software leader Adobe(NASDAQ:ADBE)were down by 6.6% as of 4 p.m. ","content":"
What happened
\n
Shares of creativity software leader Adobe(NASDAQ:ADBE)were down by 6.6% as of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. The culprit may have been JPMorgan Chase stock analyst Sterling Auty, who downgraded the stock to neutral and put a $680 one-year price target on it. Adobe and some of its software peers were hit by the prognosticator's view that there will be limited upside for them in 2022.
\n
So what
\n
Investors should always take individual predictions about stocks' near-term price movements with a grain of salt. Adobe will report its fiscal 2021 fourth-quarter earnings after the market closes on Thursday. During its fiscal Q3, which ended Sept. 3, revenue rose 22% year over year to $3.94 billion, and management predicted the Q4 pace of growth would also be in the low 20% range.
\n
Because Adobe is a mature software firm, its profitability tends to grow at an even faster rate than its revenue does (since each incremental software sale adds little in the way of new expenses, when excluding the company's spending on expansion initiatives). For example, adjusted earnings per share rose 28% in fiscal Q3. Based on management's guidance for fiscal Q4, adjusted earnings per share will only rise by about 13% year over year. But even if Adobe doesn't beat its own outlook, its full-year adjusted earnings would still be up by a very healthy mid-20% amount.
\n
Now what
\n
Since it's the end of its fiscal year, Adobe's management will also provide its initial guidance for its fiscal 2022 on its earnings call. The company will be lapping a strong 2021, but this long-term shareholder is optimistic. With digital creators beginning to build next-gen experiences for the web, streaming video services, and the workplace, demand for creativity software isn't going to abate any time soon.
\n
This bodes well for Adobe's continued success. The cloud-computing company has built itself into a hub for digital transformation, helping its users unlock new efficiencies and update their digital toolsets. Trillions of additional dollars will be spent on digital transformation in the coming decade, and capturing even a small fraction of that will deliver big gains for Adobe. 2022 may or may not be great for Adobe stock, but investors should stay focused on this company's potential over periods of many years -- not just one.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Adobe Stock Fell Nearly 7%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Adobe Stock Fell Nearly 7%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-15 10:43 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
What happened\nShares of creativity software leader Adobe(NASDAQ:ADBE)were down by 6.6% as of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. That’s not a typo. To reach the best guesstimate of when the next recession will be","content":"
In October 20XX. That’s not a typo. To reach the best guesstimate of when the next recession will begin, we need to understand how the Federal Reserve creates unsustainable booms and why the next bust may be just around the corner.
\n
A caveat is in order. As physicist Niels Bohr exclaimed, “Prediction is very difficult, especially if it’s about the future.” Nevertheless, I will weigh in fearlessly with my 10 cents. The Fed’s inflationary policies have increased my two cents fivefold. Maybe the next cryptocurrency is on the horizon: My 10 Cents.
\n
If a dog can have a crypto, why can’t a retired finance professor who warned the public that prices were about to accelerate due to the Fed’s inflationary policies in the spring of 1976 have one?
\n
Consumerprices rose5.7% in 1976, 6.5% in 1977, 7.6% in 1978, 11.3% in 1979 and 13.5% in 1980. Talk about being right on the money!
\n
As inflation was galloping throughout his presidency, then President Jimmy Carter appointed Paul Volcker, a former banker and U.S. Treasury official, in 1979 to halt the multiyear price spiral. Volcker succeeded spectacularly. Consumer prices rose 10.3% in 1981, revealing how inflation momentum can continue for a while before the Fed’s tight money policies slay the inflation dragon. In 1982, prices rose 6.1%, 3.2% in 1983, and (miracle of miracles) only 1.9% in 1986, a year before Volcker stepped down as Fed chairman and was replaced by Alan Greenspan.
\n
To accomplish what was considered at the time improbable due to high inflation expectations, the Volcker-led Fed raised the Fed Funds Rate–the rate banks borrow from each other for overnight loans–to 22% by December 1980. The cost of Volcker’s tight monetary policies necessary to halt the dollar’s slide was back-to-back recessions: a short downturn 1980 and then another one, 1981-1982. A case can be made that one long recession occurred that in effect lasted three years, from January 1980 to November 1982.
\n
Pinpointing the moment
\n
One of the best leading indicators of a cyclical downturn is the unemployment rate, which reached a cyclical bottom in May 1979 (5.6%) several months before the 1980 recession and didn’t peak until November 1982 (10.8%). The unemployment rate declined until the next upturn in layoffs began to accelerate in 1990.
\n
Currently, the unemployment rate has been declining from the lockdown peak of early 2020 and has reached levels that historically have signaled the beginning of the end of a cyclical boom. Lockdowns have undoubtedly distorted the unemployment rate, but the historical pattern reveals that when the unemployment rate nears three percent and then turns up, a recession will soon begin.
\n

\n
The yield curve is one of the most widely followed financial indicators that portend a recession usually within a year. The yield curve reveals the relationship between short-term and long-term interest rates. Typically, the yield curve is upward sloping, like today, when short-term rates are below long-term rates, reflecting a substantial amount of liquidity in the financial markets.
\n
When the Fed becomes concerned that the economy is “overheating,” it tends to raise the Fed Funds Rate to cool down price inflation, which occurred prior to the bursting of both the 2000 dotcom bubble and the 2007 housing bubble. The yield curve was virtually inverted at the end of 2019, suggesting that a recession would begin sometime in 2020. However, the lockdowns in response to COVID-19 caused an economic downturn in early 2020, not a typical cyclical recession.
\n
Now the economy is in another cyclical upswing because the Federal Reservein jected $4 trillion of liquidity to “simulate” the economy. At the most recent meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), it was decided to reduce monthly purchases from $120 billion to $105 billion. In other words, the Fed will continue to have its foot on the monetary pedal even as the inflation rate recently topped 6% year over year. That’s not a typo. To reach the best guesstimate of when the next recession will begin, we need to understand how the Federal Reserve creates unsustainable booms and why the next bust may be just around the corner.\nA caveat is in order. As physicist Niels Bohr exclaimed, “Prediction is very difficult, especially if it’s about the future.” Nevertheless, I will weigh in fearlessly with my 10 cents. The Fed’s inflationary policies have increased my two cents fivefold. Maybe the next cryptocurrency is on the horizon: My 10 Cents.\nIf a dog can have a crypto, why can’t a retired finance professor who warned the public that prices were about to accelerate due to the Fed’s inflationary policies in the spring of 1976 have one?\nConsumerprices rose5.7% in 1976, 6.5% in 1977, 7.6% in 1978, 11.3% in 1979 and 13.5% in 1980. Talk about being right on the money!\nAs inflation was galloping throughout his presidency, then President Jimmy Carter appointed Paul Volcker, a former banker and U.S. Treasury official, in 1979 to halt the multiyear price spiral. Volcker succeeded spectacularly. Consumer prices rose 10.3% in 1981, revealing how inflation momentum can continue for a while before the Fed’s tight money policies slay the inflation dragon. In 1982, prices rose 6.1%, 3.2% in 1983, and (miracle of miracles) only 1.9% in 1986, a year before Volcker stepped down as Fed chairman and was replaced by Alan Greenspan.\nTo accomplish what was considered at the time improbable due to high inflation expectations, the Volcker-led Fed raised the Fed Funds Rate–the rate banks borrow from each other for overnight loans–to 22% by December 1980. The cost of Volcker’s tight monetary policies necessary to halt the dollar’s slide was back-to-back recessions: a short downturn 1980 and then another one, 1981-1982. A case can be made that one long recession occurred that in effect lasted three years, from January 1980 to November 1982.\nPinpointing the moment\nOne of the best leading indicators of a cyclical downturn is the unemployment rate, which reached a cyclical bottom in May 1979 (5.6%) several months before the 1980 recession and didn’t peak until November 1982 (10.8%). The unemployment rate declined until the next upturn in layoffs began to accelerate in 1990.\nCurrently,the unemployment rate has been declining from the lockdown peak of early 2020 and has reached levels that historically have signaled the beginning of the end of a cyclical boom. Lockdowns have undoubtedly distorted the unemployment rate, but the historical pattern reveals that when the unemployment rate nears three percent and then turns up, a recession will soon begin.\n\nThe yield curve is one of the most widely followed financial indicators that portend a recession usually within a year. The yield curve reveals the relationship between short-term and long-term interest rates. Typically, the yield curve is upward sloping, like today, when short-term rates are below long-term rates, reflecting a substantial amount of liquidity in the financial markets.\nWhen the Fed becomes concerned that the economy is “overheating,” it tends to raise the Fed Funds Rate to cool down price inflation, which occurred prior to the bursting of both the 2000 dotcom bubble and the 2007 housing bubble. The yield curve was virtually inverted at the end of 2019, suggesting that a recession would begin sometime in 2020. However, the lockdowns in response to COVID-19 caused an economic downturn in early 2020, not a typical cyclical recession.\nNow the economy is in another cyclical upswing because the Federal Reservein jected $4 trillion of liquidity to “simulate” the economy. At the most recent meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), it was decided to reduce monthly purchases from $120 billion to $105 billion. In other words, the Fed will continue to have its foot on the monetary pedal even as the inflation rate recently topped 6% year over year. In the past accelerating inflation would set off alarm bells at the Fed to raise interest rates to dampen inflationary pressure and expectations. Currently, the thinking at the Fed is that price inflation is “transitory” and therefore monetary policy does not have to be tightened.\nMy fearless forecast, therefore, is: Inflation accelerates in 2022. Then, the public outcry over skyrocketing prices and the media reports highlighting how prices are decimating the average family’s purchasing power may cause the Biden administration to impose wage-price controls as President Nixon did in 1971 to take the sting out of inflation before his 1972 reelection campaign. In fact, the biotech's shares were the most heavily shorted equity among biopharmas at last count, a little over two weeks ago. Short-sellers are clearly betting that atuzaginstat is basically dead on arrival. That rather dire take might not be the case, however.
\n
During a recent conference call, Cortexyme management said that the drug does appear to show a worthwhile clinical benefit for Alzheimer's patients who also tested positive for the gum-disease bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis. While this analysis is far from definitive, it may help the company identify the correct patient population to evaluate atuzaginstat in, via another late-stage trial. Cortexyme intends to do just that. Almost immediately after the drug disappointed in this all-comer study, management announced plans to target a more-focused group of patients in another pivotal study.
\n
Why is Cortexyme an outstanding short-squeeze candidate? Even as a drug exclusively for Alzheimer's disease patients with an active P. gingivalis infection, it should still generate mega-blockbuster sales (greater than $5 billion). That's a massive revenue stream for a company with a $420 million market cap at present. Cortexyme plans to provide an update to investors on this upcoming clinical trial in the first quarter of 2022. As a result, the biotech's stock is currently one of the most heavily shorted within its immediate peer group. Bears have bet against this small-cap pharma stock for two clear reasons. First, Heron's chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting franchise has underwhelmed from a commercial standpoint.
\n
Second, the biotech's highly anticipated acute pain medication Zynrelef didn't get the type of broad label from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that would have allowed it to become a major growth driver right off the bat. Heron is working with the FDA to expand Zynrelef's label, but this process will take a while to work through.
\n
The good news is that Zynrelef still holds the potential to rake in upward of $500 million in sales by the middle of the decade. That's a nice chunk of change for a biotech with a sub-$1 billion market cap.
\n
Why might Heron be gearing up for a noteworthy short squeeze? It is expected to announce important commercial and regulatory updates for Zynrelef before the end of February 2022. If the drug's commercial launch continues to show promise and its label-expansion plans remain on track, the stock should reverse course. The biotech's shares, after all, are currently trading at under 3 times 2023 sales, which is a dirt cheap valuation for a commercial-stage biotech.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Short-Squeeze Candidates That Could Go Parabolic Soon
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Short-Squeeze Candidates That Could Go Parabolic Soon\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-09 23:18 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Short squeezes can deliver enormous returns for investors in the blink of an eye. Several so-called \"meme stocks\" generated jaw-dropping gains for investors earlier this year due to this phenomenon.
\n
The mechanics of a short squeeze are fairly straightforward. Short-sellers, or investors betting against an equity, are essentially forced to cover their position in response to an uptick in investors buying the stock. The net result, more often than not, is a brief, parabolic-like move higher in the stock in question.
\n
Last month, short-sellers seemingly took advantage of the widespread weakness across the biopharma space. As a result, scores of biopharma equities sport sizable short positions as a percentage of the outstanding shares. The Alzheimer's specialist Cortexyme (NASDAQ:CRTX) and the commercial-stage biotech Heron Therapeutics (NASDAQ:HRTX) were two of the most heavily shorted pharma stocks at last count. These two drugmakers, however, could prove to be terrible stocks to bet against. Here's why.
\n
\n
Cortexyme: Alzheimer's drugs are too risky to short
\n
Cortexyme, a small-molecule drug developer, became a huge target for short-sellers after its experimental Alzheimer's disease treatment atuzaginstat flopped in a late-stage trial toward the end of October.
This update could very well spark a short squeeze in the biotech's stock.
\n
Heron Therapeutics: Down but not out
\n
Heron Therapeutics has been a top short-seller target for well over a year now.
Several so-called \"meme stocks\" generated jaw-dropping gains for investors earlier this year due to this phenomenon.\nThe mechanics of a short squeeze are fairly straightforward. Short-sellers, or investors betting against an equity, are essentially forced to cover their position in response to an uptick in investors buying the stock. The net result, more often than not, is a brief, parabolic-like move higher in the stock in question.\nLast month, short-sellers seemingly took advantage of the widespread weakness across the biopharma space. Here's why.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nCortexyme: Alzheimer's drugs are too risky to short\nCortexyme, a small-molecule drug developer, became a huge target for short-sellers after its experimental Alzheimer's disease treatment atuzaginstat flopped in a late-stage trial toward the end of October. In fact, the biotech's shares were the most heavily shorted equity among biopharmas at last count, a little over two weeks ago. Short-sellers are clearly betting that atuzaginstat is basically dead on arrival. That rather dire take might not be the case, however.\nDuring a recent conference call, Cortexyme management said that the drug does appear to show a worthwhile clinical benefit for Alzheimer's patients who also tested positive for the gum-disease bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis. While this analysis is far from definitive, it may help the company identify the correct patient population to evaluate atuzaginstat in, via another late-stage trial. Cortexyme intends to do just that. Almost immediately after the drug disappointed in this all-comer study, management announced plans to target a more-focused group of patients in another pivotal study.\nWhy is Cortexyme an outstanding short-squeeze candidate? Even as a drug exclusively for Alzheimer's disease patients with an active P. gingivalis infection, it should still generate mega-blockbuster sales (greater than $5 billion). That's a massive revenue stream for a company with a $420 million market cap at present. Cortexyme plans to provide an update to investors on this upcoming clinical trial in the first quarter of 2022. This update could very well spark a short squeeze in the biotech's stock.\nHeron Therapeutics: Down but not out\nHeron Therapeutics has been a top short-seller target for well over a year now. As a result, the biotech's stock is currently one of the most heavily shorted within its immediate peer group. Bears have bet against this small-cap pharma stock for two clear reasons. First, Heron's chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting franchise has underwhelmed from a commercial standpoint.\nSecond, the biotech's highly anticipated acute pain medication Zynrelef didn't get the type of broad label from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that would have allowed it to become a major growth driver right off the bat. Heron is working with the FDA to expand Zynrelef's label, but this process will take a while to work through.\nThe good news is that Zynrelef still holds the potential to rake in upward of $500 million in sales by the middle of the decade. That's a nice chunk of change for a biotech with a sub-$1 billion market cap.\nWhy might Heron be gearing up for a noteworthy short squeeze? It is expected to announce important commercial and regulatory updates for Zynrelef before the end of February 2022. If the drug's commercial launch continues to show promise and its label-expansion plans remain on track, the stock should reverse course. The biotech's shares, after all, are currently trading at under 3 times 2023 sales, which is a dirt cheap valuation for a commercial-stage biotech.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":946,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":876521846,"gmtCreate":1637333323989,"gmtModify":1637333325056,"author":{"id":"3574851080358491","authorId":"3574851080358491","name":"Benstonk","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c8a964cfa9223e4704989c9a4b9b772e","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Micron will lead the hardware for METAVERSE$Micron Technology(MU)$","listText":"Micron will lead the hardware for METAVERSE$Micron Technology(MU)$","text":"Micron will lead the hardware for METAVERSE$Micron Technology(MU)$","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/876521846","repostId":"1177671709","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1177671709","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1637333258,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1177671709?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-19 22:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Micron Technology and Nvidia shares jumped in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1177671709","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Micron Technology and Nvidia shares jumped 5% and 2% in morning trading.","content":"
Micron Technology and Nvidia shares jumped 5% and 2% in morning trading.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It has massive growth potential and the stock price reflects that.","content":"
Upstart (NASDAQ:UPST) -- a company that uses artificial intelligence systems to determine would-be borrowers' creditworthiness -- has caught the attention of Wall Street and the mainstream financial media in 2021. As a result, the stock price has surged more than 1,000% since its December 2020 IPO, raising questions about how much bigger this company can get.
\n
But investors considering buying in on Upstart now should remember that this is still a young business, and its stock has the potential to grow another 1,000% over the next decade. The company has just started de-risking itself, making it safer for investors to get a piece of the action.
\n
Let's go into more detail about why Upstart is still worth buying today.
\n
\n
Upstart's formula could replace FICO
\n
For decades, the chief way banks and others have determined creditworthiness is by looking at a person's FICO score -- a metric created by Fair Isaac Corp. (NYSE:FICO) back in 1989. There are a host of variations based on that model now, but still, those scores have certain weaknesses -- primarily because there are plenty of people who have poor credit histories or no credit history at all, but who would nonetheless be good credit risks. Fully 80% of Americans have never defaulted on a loan payment, yet fewer than half of Americans have prime credit -- meaning that as much as 30% of the populace are potentially good people to lend money to, but might get rejected by banks making their decisions solely by looking at credit scores.
\n
Upstart looks at a much bigger picture -- everything from employment history to how applicants interact with the loan application -- and takes all of this data into account, determining each consumer's creditworthiness with impressive accuracy. An internal study by Upstart showed that all other things being equal, Upstart's evaluations led to 75% fewer defaults than when relying on traditional models.
\n
Even better, the more loan decisions it makes, the more accurate Upstart's AI should get. Each borrower it recommends lending to will either pay off their loan or default. If they default, the model will learn that customers with similar traits might also be less likely to pay off loans. That steady aggregation of new data could help it adjust its decision-making and decrease its default rate as time goes on.
\n
With Upstart, the process to get a loan is becoming much easier. The company approves an average of 27% more loans than banks do using their traditional model, while applicants get on average a 16% lower interest rate. The decision process is also quick for the customer: Upstart's AI has gotten so good that it has been able to automatically approve 71% of its applications with minimal fraud risk. Among its accepted loan applications in 2020's fourth quarter, only 0.4% later proved to be fraudulent.
\n
Innovation is leading to success
\n
Reinventing the loan approval process has resulted in strong financial success for Upstart. The company gave its thumbs-up to 24% of the loan applications it saw in Q2 2021, reaching a transaction volume of 287,000 loans. And loan volume increased by 69% from the first quarter.
\n
Related to the increase in loan volume, Upstart's Q2 revenue grew by 1,000% year over year, and by 60% sequentially, to $194 million. Its contribution profit -- a metric similar to gross margin -- was 50% of total revenue in Q2, up from 46% in Q1 2021.
\n
Despite being a small company in terms of revenue, Upstart is profitable. Its net income for Q2 was $37 million, an improvement from its net loss of $6 million in the prior-year quarter. The company also produced free cash flow of $134 million in the first half of 2021 -- representing a free cash flow margin of 44%.
\n
It won't be surprising to see this strong growth continue. In addition to the network effects it benefits from, lending is an enormous market. Management sees a market opportunity of $635 billion in auto loan origination and an $84 billion opportunity in personal loans. It's just beginning to tap into the vehicle loan market with its recently launched Upstart Auto Retail product -- an outgrowth of the company's April acquisition of Prodigy, a provider of cloud-based software for auto sales.
\n
Lenders are flocking to Upstart
\n
Lenders are moving to Upstart's platform fast -- four banks have partnered with it since its Q2 report. Its customer concentration was high at the beginning of 2021, with one lender accounting for 67% of its loan volume in 2020. That client only represented 60% of Upstart's loan volume in the first half, however. As a result, the stock price has surged more than 1,000% since its December 2020 IPO, raising questions about how much bigger this company can get.\nBut investors considering buying in on Upstart now should remember that this is still a young business, and its stock has the potential to grow another 1,000% over the next decade. The company has just started de-risking itself, making it safer for investors to get a piece of the action.\nLet's go into more detail about why Upstart is still worth buying today.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nUpstart's formula could replace FICO\nFor decades, the chief way banks and others have determined creditworthiness is by looking at a person's FICO score -- a metric created by Fair Isaac Corp. (NYSE:FICO) back in 1989. There are a host of variations based on that model now, but still, those scores have certain weaknesses -- primarily because there are plenty of people who have poor credit histories or no credit history at all, but who would nonetheless be good credit risks. Fully 80% of Americans have never defaulted on a loan payment, yet fewer than half of Americans have prime credit -- meaning that as much as 30% of the populace are potentially good people to lend money to, but might get rejected by banks making their decisions solely by looking at credit scores.\nUpstart looks at a much bigger picture -- everything from employment history to how applicants interact with the loan application -- and takes all of this data into account, determining each consumer's creditworthiness with impressive accuracy. An internal study by Upstart showed that all other things being equal, Upstart's evaluations led to 75% fewer defaults than when relying on traditional models.\nEven better, the more loan decisions it makes, the more accurate Upstart's AI should get. Each borrower it recommends lending to will either pay off their loan or default. If they default, the model will learn that customers with similar traits might also be less likely to pay off loans. That steady aggregation of new data could help it adjust its decision-making and decrease its default rate as time goes on.\nWith Upstart, the process to get a loan is becoming much easier. The company approves an average of 27% more loans than banks do using their traditional model, while applicants get on average a 16% lower interest rate. The decision process is also quick for the customer: Upstart's AI has gotten so good that it has been able to automatically approve 71% of its applications with minimal fraud risk. Among its accepted loan applications in 2020's fourth quarter, only 0.4% later proved to be fraudulent.\nInnovation is leading to success\nReinventing the loan approval process has resulted in strong financial success for Upstart. The company gave its thumbs-up to 24% of the loan applications it saw in Q2 2021, reaching a transaction volume of 287,000 loans. And loan volume increased by 69% from the first quarter.\nRelated to the increase in loan volume, Upstart's Q2 revenue grew by 1,000% year over year, and by 60% sequentially, to $194 million. Its contribution profit -- a metric similar to gross margin -- was 50% of total revenue in Q2, up from 46% in Q1 2021.\nDespite being a small company in terms of revenue, Upstart is profitable. Its net income for Q2 was $37 million, an improvement from its net loss of $6 million in the prior-year quarter. The company also produced free cash flow of $134 million in the first half of 2021 -- representing a free cash flow margin of 44%.\nIt won't be surprising to see this strong growth continue. In addition to the network effects it benefits from, lending is an enormous market. Management sees a market opportunity of $635 billion in auto loan origination and an $84 billion opportunity in personal loans. It's just beginning to tap into the vehicle loan market with its recently launched Upstart Auto Retail product -- an outgrowth of the company's April acquisition of Prodigy, a provider of cloud-based software for auto sales.\nLenders are flocking to Upstart\nLenders are moving to Upstart's platform fast -- four banks have partnered with it since its Q2 report. Its customer concentration was high at the beginning of 2021, with one lender accounting for 67% of its loan volume in 2020. That client only represented 60% of Upstart's loan volume in the first half, however. With the addition of these new banks since it reported Q2 earnings, its concentration figure will likely continue to decline.\nThe stock is trading at 133 times free cash flow and 64 times sales. However, Upstart has been doing everything right so far in 2021: It has decreased its client concentration, expanded into a big new market, and rapidly grown its business. Yet it still has plenty of room for explosive growth over the next 10 years, and investors still have the opportunity to benefit from its game-changing technology.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":112,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":852145389,"gmtCreate":1635255628047,"gmtModify":1635255629053,"author":{"id":"3574851080358491","authorId":"3574851080358491","name":"Benstonk","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c8a964cfa9223e4704989c9a4b9b772e","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$GameStop(GME)$Enter the METAVERSE","listText":"$GameStop(GME)$Enter the METAVERSE","text":"$GameStop(GME)$Enter the METAVERSE","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a469811e6d9b5a5ccfba0f396399cc17","width":"1125","height":"3526"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/852145389","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":148,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":867443723,"gmtCreate":1633310706808,"gmtModify":1633310707825,"author":{"id":"3574851080358491","authorId":"3574851080358491","name":"Benstonk","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c8a964cfa9223e4704989c9a4b9b772e","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Old burden ","listText":"Old burden ","text":"Old burden","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/867443723","repostId":"2172313961","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2172313961","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1633304749,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2172313961?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-04 07:45","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Biden's agenda facing test this week as Pelosi, moderate Democrats in standoff","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2172313961","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"House speaker plans meeting with her fellow Democrats at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Monday\nCan the Democratic","content":"
House speaker plans meeting with her fellow Democrats at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Monday
\n
Can the Democratic-run U.S. House move along the party's big spending plans?
\n
The House is back in Washington, D.C., on Monday, returning from an August break earlier than originally planned in order to consider measures already passed by the Democratic-run Senate and touted by President Joe Biden.
\n
The Senate voted 69-30 in favor of a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill on Aug. 10, and it then had a procedural vote a day later for a $3.5 trillion package targeting social spending, climate change and other Democratic priorities that was approved 50-49, along party lines.
\n
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat, plans a procedural vote on Monday that would set up future passage of both measures, as she works to corral nine moderate Democratic representatives who want the $1 trillion infrastructure bill to get approved before the larger package. She has given Oct. 1 as a deadline for enacting the infrastructure and social-spending packages and has planned a 5:30 p.m. Eastern meeting with her caucus.\n\"Listening to the priorities across the spectrum in our Caucus, there is a clear recognition that we must pass both the Build Back Better Act and the bipartisan infrastructure bill -- and we must do so soon,\" Pelosi added.\nBut her nine colleagues have been sounding defiant, saying in a joint Washington Post op-ed column on Sunday that they're \"firmly opposed to holding the president's infrastructure legislation hostage to reconciliation, risking its passage and the bipartisan support behind it.\"\n\"We can walk and chew gum, just as the Senate did,\" the nine moderates said in the column. \"We can pass the infrastructure measure now, and then quickly consider reconciliation and the policies from climate to health care to universal pre-K that we believe are critical.\"\nPelosi also faces pressure from progressive House Democrats who say they won't support the bipartisan infrastructure bill unless the $3.5 trillion package moves ahead as well. She has a narrow House majority and can afford no more than three defections by Democrats on legislation if there's no Republican support for it.\nHouse Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat, reportedly urged all Democrats on a conference call last week to support the vote setting up future passage of both measures. He also said voting would take place on Monday night, with the House acting as well on a voting-rights bill named after the late Rep. John Lewis.\n\"I continue to believe that there is a small but non-trivial possibility that in the end, Congress passes none of the above,\" said Stephen Stanley, chief economist at Amherst Pierpont, in a recent note. He pointed out lawmakers soon will have to address the federal government's debt ceiling and \"do something about a budget for next year or risk a government shutdown.\"\n\"It is possible that the infrastructure and reconciliation bills get shoved to the back burner for a few days or for as long as two months while Congress addresses these more pressing concerns. Like a banana sitting in your pantry, the longer these bills sit in limbo, the softer their support will get,\" Stanley said.\n\"With no signs of progress, expectations for a resolution this week hingeon Pelosi's track record of corralling Democrats using both carrots and sticks,\" said Benjamin Salisbury, director of research at Height Capital Markets, in a note.\n\"We expect leadership to find a face-saving exit for moderates potentially offering private and/or public commitments on the timing for an infrastructure vote and/or the size of the reconciliation bill. However, at this point the pathway is still uncertain,\" Salisbury added.\nBiden is facing criticism even from within his own party over his administration's handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, and that might be a problem for his plans for infrastructure and social spending.\n\"The fallout from the collapse of Afghanistan is not limited to foreign policy and could impact U.S. domestic politics including the debate in the House about regarding the two infrastructure bills as well as the future of the Federal Reserve,\" said Brian Gardner, chief Washington policy strategist at Stifel, in a note.\nRelated:Powell's future in question as Warren blasts Fed for being too easy on the biggest banks\nBeyond the possible roadblocks in the House, the $3.5 trillion package is facing opposition from moderate Democratic senators, with Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia warning last week about Washington \"continuing to spend at irresponsible levels.\"\nInfrastructure stocks, as tracked by the Global X U.S. Infrastructure Development ETF $(PAVE)$, have jumped 27% so far this year, topping the broad S&P 500 index's gain of 19%.\nThis is an updated version of a report that was first published on Aug. 17, 2021.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":16,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":606231475,"gmtCreate":1638882889762,"gmtModify":1638882890384,"author":{"id":"3574851080358491","authorId":"3574851080358491","name":"Benstonk","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c8a964cfa9223e4704989c9a4b9b772e","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$to the moon","listText":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$to the moon","text":"$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$to the moon","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/606231475","repostId":"2189420631","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2189420631","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1638880445,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2189420631?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-07 20:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"German chip chemical supplier to spend $1 bln in U.S., pairs with Palantir on supply chain data","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2189420631","media":"Reuters","summary":"Dec 7 (Reuters) - A German supplier of chemicals and materials used in making semiconductors said on","content":"
Dec 7 (Reuters) - A German supplier of chemicals and materials used in making semiconductors said on Tuesday that it is investing $1 billion in its U.S. operations and forming a joint venture with data analytics firm Palantir Technologies to solve chip industry supply chain problems.
\n
Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany - which uses the name EMD Electronics for its North American electronics business to avoid confusion with the unaffiliated pharmaceutical company of the same name - supplies a range of chemicals used by chip factories, which are expected to expand if U.S. lawmakers pass a $52 billion aide package to bolster domestic manufacturing.
\n
The company plans to spend $1 billion through 2025 for sites in Arizona, California, Texas and Pennsylvania.
\n
\"The chip shortage needs industry-wide cooperation to resolve the supply chain issues consumers are currently facing,\" Kai Beckmann, chief executive of the German firm's electronics unit, said in a statement.
\n
Merck KGaA also said Tuesday it is forming a joint venture with analytics firm Palantir.
