Fund house introduction: UOB Asset Management
Tiger Brokers offers a variety of Unit Trusts on our platform which are provided by various fund management companies in Singapore. Given the array of funds, investors may find it confusing when it comes to selecting the funds that best suits their investment goals. In this series, we will be interviewing the fund houses that are on our platform to find out more about their specialty to help our investor select the best funds from these fund providers. Today, the fund house that we have interviewed is UOB Asset Management (“@UOBAM ”).
An introduction to UOBAM
@UOBAM is a leading Asia-based asset manager with its headquarters in Singapore. It has grown extensively across Asia with a presence in nine markets, namely; Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, since its establishment as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the United Overseas Bank (UOB) in 1986.
The asset manager also partners up with leading industry player such as China’s Ping An Trust to form Ping An Fund Management Company (China), UTI International (India) and Wellington Management Singapore.
Via its regional network, @UOBAM offers global investment management expertise to individuals, institutions and corporations – comprehensive suite of product ranges from retail unit trusts and exchange traded funds to customised portfolio management services for institutional clients.
What can UOBAM bring to the table?
@UOBAM is one of the most awarded fund management companies, winning several awards at the Asia Asset Management Best of the Best Awards 2021 and 2020, backed by their consistent performance. This is comes on the back of its experienced team of 90 investment professionals who conduct rigorous fundamental research within a proven investment framework to provide their clients with innovative investment solutions – the strength of the team lies in their commitment to investment excellence.
As such, @UOBAM has become the trusted regional asset manager in innovation and sustainability with an extensive network in Asia – 30 years of investment excellence and the largest domestic investment footprint in Asia. Such experience and expertise in the Asian region allows the team to bring across the best-in-class global or thematicinstitutional funds into the retail space, thereby providing exclusive investment opportunities to their clients.
Here is one fund by UOBAM that investors can consider
In our latest article “If I have $1000, which funds should I buy?”, we mentioned that the burgeoning economy of China remains an attractive investment in our view, despite the resurgence in Covid-19 cases and reforms efforts by the People’s Republic of China.
More specifically, we suggested our investors to look at the China A shares market for an investment exposure towards China due to 3 reasons; 1) companies listed on the A shares market are poised to benefit from the reforms, 2) A shares is the easiest way to gain exposure to the 2nd largest economy in the world and 3) the low correlation it has against global equity market makes it a portfolio diversifier.
Given our bullishness for the A shares market, we think investors can consider the $United China A Shares Innovation A Acc SGD(SGXZ49509284)$fund which is managed locally by Ping An Fund Management Company, a partner of @UOBAM.
The fund aims to achieve long term capital appreciation by investing primarily into companies listed in China that are likely to be the main beneficiary of technology, innovation and other growth trends. That said, the investment team also seek innovative companies in consumer, industrial, healthcare and materials in part due to the extensive use of e-commerce and mobile apps in consumer and business. By investing in this fund, investors will obtain a diversified portfolio investment into China and capitalise on growth trends in the long run.
