Here are 3 picks that are a better value with more upside potential.","content":"
Rivian Automotive(NASDAQ:RIVN)has hit the market with a bang, trading more than 30% over its IPO price and now sporting a market cap near $100 billion. This is despite only producing about 15 vehicles per week right now. The company has a bright future, but investors looking for any value in electric vehicle stocks should probably look elsewhere right now.
\n
Three of our Fool.com contributors ,Travis Hoium, Howard Smith, and Daniel Foelber think General Motors(NYSE:GM),ChargePoint Holdings(NYSE:CHPT), and Lucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID) are all better buys than Rivian today.
\n
\n
The leader in autonomous driving
\n
Travis Hoium(General Motors):As companies like Rivian get all the headlines in electric vehicles, General Motors is quietly building out the technology and manufacturing capacity totransition entirely to electric vehicles by 2035. That includes 30 EV models that will launch globally by 2025, including cars, trucks, and SUVs.
\n
But it isn't GM's EV capacity that makes it a better buy than Rivian, it's the company's majority ownership of Cruise, the autonomous ride-sharing company, that provides the most upside. GM is providing Cruise with design and manufacturing capabilities to build autonomous vehicles like the Cruise Origin (shown above), a self-driving shuttle for ride-sharing developed in a partnership between Cruise, GM, and Honda. Cruise is developing autonomous driving hardware and software that go into Origin and eventually a ride-sharing business. GM is also providing funding to build out Cruise's vehicle infrastructure, which could cost many billions of dollars, starting with a $5 billion line of credit to buy Cruise Origins.
\n
In time, autonomous vehicles could reduce the cost of traveling in cities and even make vehicle ownership obsolete. Cruise is leading the way into this market, and that provides tremendous upside for GM. This may be an old company in the auto industry, but it's making great strategic moves to be a leader in the future of electric and autonomous vehicles.
\n
Picks and shovels
\n
Howard Smith(ChargePoint Holdings):Rivian's public debut generated a lot of excitement for good reason. The company has big backers and reportedly a backlog of orders for both fleets and consumer electric vehicles (EVs). But investors have seen plenty of examples where initial excitement causes a spike in valuation that doesn't always last.
\n
Another exciting recent event for EV investors was the passage of a federal infrastructure bill that will push $7.5 billion to help build out the charging infrastructure needed for this country to expand EV ownership. ChargePoint Holdings is the leader in that space with more than 118,000 charging ports, including more than 3,700 DC fast chargers. The vast majority of those stations are in the U.S., though the company is also growing its business in Europe where it already has 5,400 charging locations.
\n
Those federal infrastructure funds will be sent to states that will issue grants to the charging network companies, which will make up the country's network. And that should be a big shot in the arm for ChargePoint as the largest operator in the country. Even prior to the realization of that catalyst, ChargePoint was growing its business beyond what it had predicted before its public debut.
\n
The company recorded $146 million in revenue for its full fiscal year 2021 that ended Jan. 31, 2021. In its most recently reported quarter ended July 31, 2021, it raised its revenue guidance for its current fiscal year by 15% to a range of $225 million to $235 million. At the midpoint, that would represent annual revenue growth of 57.5%, even without the added catalyst of federal funds.
\n
ChargePoint generated its own excitement when it announced it would begin trading publicly last year. The stock is almost 50% off the peak price reached at the end of Dec. 2020 prior to the closing of its merger with the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that brought it public. It wouldn't be surprising to see Rivian's stock fluctuate as well. But for Rivian -- and all the other EV makers -- to be successful, there will need to be charging infrastructure in place. That makes ChargePoint a \"picks and shovels\" type of investment for the rapidly growing EV sector. That could make it a better investment today than adding to Rivian's early hype.
\n
Lucid is proving it can compete against the best in the business
\n
Daniel Foelber(Lucid Group):Rivian's roughly $120 billion market capitalization is raising eyebrows considering the company is relatively unproven. Similarly, Lucid Motors has received its fair share of criticism for sporting a $65 billion market cap just over a month into the mass production of its Lucid Air Dream Edition luxury sedan.
\n
Rivian and Lucid are pricey, and it's hard to say which is the better value now. Rivian has received backing from Amazon and Ford as it targets the higher-end electric lifestyle truck and electric delivery van markets. Similar to Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA), the company is bypassing the dealership framework of traditional automakers by marketing directly to consumers. Rivian also plans to build its own charging network to make electricity more accessible in remote places where a core part of its outdoor-focused target demographic requires the ability to charge. By comparison,Lucid doesn't feel the need to invest in its own charging network, choosing instead to save money by partnering with the growing list of third-party charging providers.
\n
Rivian has already faced delivery delays due to the global chip shortage. By comparison, Lucid has quickly built a reputation for delivering on its promises, having hit all of its major 2021 goals on time. Lucid also has an excellent management team and plenty of cash to fund its 2022 operations.
\n
Arguably the best reason why there's never been a better time to buy Lucid stock is that the company has achieved incredible engineering feats that rival Tesla-- the undisputed champ in the EV industry. Packing in more battery cells can help improve performance, but Lucid isn't doing that. Instead, it has built a compact battery pack that sports a battery efficiency of 4.5 miles per kilowatt-hour (mi/kWh) of stored energy, which is higher than the Tesla Model S, Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Taycan, and other competitors. Lucid management believes that battery efficiency is the key differentiating factor, not just higher horsepower and range. With the Lucid Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, it has outdone the competition in both efficiency ratings and performance -- albeit for a high price tag.
\n
Rivian supporters would argue that not only does Rivian have a nice head start in the lifestyle EV pickup truck market, but it's also going to be a relatively insulated market because seasoned automakers like Ford and GM are only challenging the standard pickup truck market (for now). By comparison, Lucid plans to roll out lower prices trims of its sedan that would have to compete against expensive but much more \"affordable\" luxury sedan leaders. In doing so, it plans to lower the horsepower and range of its cars, which would bridge the gap between its advantages and the competition. However, what gives Lucid the edge over Rivian is that it has proven it can go toe-to-toe with the best in the business, hit its targets, and has plans to grow quickly in 2022 and beyond.
\n
Given that the growth trajectory is mapped out, Lucid has a clear path toward even greater success. However, investors should be aware that Lucid stock is likely to remain extremely volatile as the company works toward scaling production.
\n
EVs are here to stay
\n
What we all agree on is that electric vehicles are here to stay. They're now competitive with fossil fuel vehicles in range, costs are coming down, and the innovative companies making EVs are enabling autonomy as well. The entire EV space has huge potential; we just think GM, ChargePoint, and Lucid are better buys than Rivian at today's price.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Rivian Soars On IPO, But These 3 EV Stocks Are Better Buys Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nRivian Soars On IPO, But These 3 EV Stocks Are Better Buys Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-14 09:27 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Rivian Automotive(NASDAQ:RIVN)has hit the market with a bang, trading more than 30% over its IPO price and now sporting a market cap near $100 billion. The entire EV space has huge potential; we just think GM, ChargePoint, and Lucid are better buys than Rivian at today's price.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":818,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":873882784,"gmtCreate":1636928579851,"gmtModify":1636928579851,"author":{"id":"4095660586591170","authorId":"4095660586591170","name":"kyesayshi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd9976a060ba53252ff6d309a7a5cfac","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095660586591170","authorIdStr":"4095660586591170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Well see, may be a good end to 2021","listText":"Well see, may be a good end to 2021","text":"Well see, may be a good end to 2021","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/873882784","repostId":"1103944030","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1103944030","pubTimestamp":1636857439,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1103944030?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-14 10:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"These are the next three mega-cap tech stocks you’ll be hearing more about","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103944030","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"AMD is among companies poised to eclipse $200 billion in market value\nAMD Chief Executive Lisa Su is","content":"
AMD is among companies poised to eclipse $200 billion in market value
\n
AMD Chief Executive Lisa Su is seen in 2017. AFP via Getty Images
\n
As technology stocks have led the market for the better part of a dozen years, there are now 15 companies in the sector that have risen to mega-cap status — those valued at $200 billion or more.
\n
Five are valued at more than $1 trillion, including electric-vehicle maker Tesla, which I consider a tech company.
\n
Bets have been placed on which companies will rise to a trillion next, with Meta Platforms — aka Facebook — at the top of most lists and Nvidia, sitting on top of mine as a call I made 14 months ago.
\n
Perhaps harder than rising from north of half a trillion to a trillion is rising from less than $200 billion to break the threshold into mega-cap status.
\n
However, a few companies look destined for this outcome precisely, and I believe three have an incredibly compelling case to get there within the next 12 to 18 months — if not sooner.
\n
1. ServiceNow: ServiceNow has been on an incredible run for more than a decade. From 2010 to 2020, revenues grew at a 59.2% average annual rate, while its stock rose at 44% a year. The company finished the 2020 calendar year at about $4.5 billion in revenue, and its trailing 12 months have surged close to $5.5 billion.
\n
The company now has more than 1,266 customers with a million or more dollars in recurring revenue, and is seeing this number grow at a substantial rate, including 25% in its most recent quarter.
\n
Beyond the numbers, the company’s technology, which enables companies to automate and implement digital workflows, continues to prove robust and best of breed. The most recent release of its Rome platform, three additional acquisitions to expand its portfolio and a deepened partnership with Microsoft are just a few recent highlights that provide the company a pathway to growth that should accelerate based on trends including app modernization, hybrid work, workflow automation, and even enterprise ESG initiatives.
\n
It’s hard to see ServiceNow not providing the robust growth that will take its market cap above $200 billion. The company’s market value is about $138 billion as of Monday.
\n
2. Qualcomm:Qualcomm’s strong earnings report released last week — earnings per share jumped 76% year over year and revenue rose 43% — helped drive the stock to over $160 from the low $120s in mid-October.
\n
Consequently, that took the company’s market cap from about $145 billion to over $180 billion in just a matter of days. It serves as a timely reminder of how quickly a tech company in the right markets can produce momentum.
\n
Qualcomm, while best known as a chip provider for mobile handsets, is rapidly becoming a much bigger force in many categories, including the internet of things (IoT), automotive and wireless RFFE. With IoT and wireless RFFE surpassing a billion dollars a quarter in revenue, and automotive reaching nearly a billion in annual revenue with a $10 billion design pipeline, the company is becoming increasingly diversified. Thirty-eight percent of revenue in its QCT semiconductor business is now unrelated to handsets.
\n
Perhaps these adjacent business successes alone could catapult the company’s market value to over $200 billion, but what Qualcomm also has going for it is an undisputable global market leadership in 5G, which will continue to accelerate its handset business, as well as all of its adjacencies and massive licensing business.
\n
3. AMD: I’ve been critical at times of Advanced Micro Devices, and sometimes you have to lean into calls you get wrong. While Intel under new CEO Pat Gelsinger shows more ambition and clear direction, AMD under Lisa Su has been on an absolute tear.
\n
In August, Mercury Research reported that AMD’s 22.5% x86 market share was its best in 14 years. With 4.2% year-over-year market share growth in its second quarter and another 54% overall revenue growth in the third quarter, the company’s market share gains look likely to continue.
\n
While I do think Intel is quickly patching its gaps and going to be a much more robust competitor, I believe the overall demand for CPUs (central processing units), GPUs (graphics processing units) and FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) will drive a larger total addressable market, and AMD’s going to grow revenues even if market share gains level off.
\n
Speaking of FPGA’s, the impending Xilinx deal, which I believe will gain regulatory approval, hasn’t been accounted for by many investors.
\n
AMD’s market value rose to over $180 billion Monday after the stock surged more than 10%. The company on Monday announced a range of news, including the fact that Meta will use its Epyc processors in its data center computers.
\n
After those three, I would add Micron Technology as an honorable mention. The company sits at closer to $85 billion in market cap. Still, as our thirst for compute continues to grow, the need for memory technology will scale dramatically, making Micron a significant beneficiary along with the likes of Samsung, which already sits well inside mega-cap territory.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
These are the next three mega-cap tech stocks you’ll be hearing more about
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThese are the next three mega-cap tech stocks you’ll be hearing more about\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-14 10:37 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
AMD is among companies poised to eclipse $200 billion in market value\nAMD Chief Executive Lisa Su is seen in 2017. We'd gotten used to quarter after quarter of excellent news. And then, in the third-quarter earnings report this week, Moderna cut its 2021 vaccine revenue forecast. Moderna said it now predicts $15 billion to $18 billion in coronavirus vaccine revenue this year. That means revenue may be as much as $5 billion lower than expected.
\n
As a result, the shares sank 32% in two trading sessions. All of this sounds pretty grim. But, in fact, the situation isn't as bad as it looks. The $5 billion in revenue actually isn't lost. Let's take a closer look at why the market reaction was overdone -- and why the future still looks bright for this biotech company.
\n
The earlier forecast
\n
First, a little background. In Moderna's previous earnings report, the company forecast $20 billion in coronavirus vaccine sales for 2021. This is according to advance purchase agreements with various governments -- and the company's ability to deliver those particular orders this year.
\n
Fast forward to this week's earnings report. As mentioned above, Moderna predicted a lower number. But that isn't because Moderna lost orders or sales. The biotech still will bring in the full $20 billion. But part of it will come in a bit later. There are two reasons for this.
\n
First, Moderna is deferring the delivery of some vaccine doses to higher-income countries to early 2022. It's doing this so that it can prioritize doses to lower- and middle-income countries. And these countries pay lower prices. By delivering doses to the African Union and the COVAX initiative for equitable vaccine distribution instead of countries that pay more, Moderna will generate lower revenue in the coming weeks.
\n
Second, Moderna is shipping more doses internationally than it did earlier in the year. International shipping adds more time to the whole process of getting doses from factories to people's arms. Moderna expects to speed up the process once delivery to certain countries becomes routine. In the meantime, shipping abroad is slowing things down. And that means some deliveries meant for the fourth quarter instead will arrive in early 2022. As a result, Moderna will record sales from those orders in 2022 instead of 2021.
\n
What does this mean for investors?
\n
Right now, it's more important than ever to look at Moderna through a long-term lens. From quarter to quarter, vaccine deliveries -- and revenue -- may ebb and flow. And as we see here, this sort of movement has nothing to do with overall demand for the vaccine. In many cases, logistics can determine whether a delivery arrives in one quarter or the next.
\n
Instead, we should look at the level of advance purchase orders for the coming year -- and how Moderna plans to evolve its coronavirus vaccine program in a post-pandemic world. Right now, Moderna has signed $17 billion in advance purchase agreements. These involve upfront payments so they are pretty secure. Moderna also has options for about $3 billion. That puts next year at about the same level as this year.
\n
Beyond that point, it's too early to predict exactly how much coronavirus vaccine or booster revenue will represent for Moderna. But it could remain significant. Experts say the coronavirus is here to stay. That means countries will need to stock up on vaccines or boosters for at least part of their populations. We'd gotten used to quarter after quarter of excellent news. And then, in the third-quarter earnings report this week, Moderna cut its 2021 vaccine revenue forecast. Moderna said it now predicts $15 billion to $18 billion in coronavirus vaccine revenue this year. That means revenue may be as much as $5 billion lower than expected.\nAs a result, the shares sank 32% in two trading sessions. All of this sounds pretty grim. But, in fact, the situation isn't as bad as it looks. The $5 billion in revenue actually isn't lost. Let's take a closer look at why the market reaction was overdone -- and why the future still looks bright for this biotech company.\nThe earlier forecast\nFirst, a little background. In Moderna's previous earnings report, the company forecast $20 billion in coronavirus vaccine sales for 2021. This is according to advance purchase agreements with various governments -- and the company's ability to deliver those particular orders this year.\nFast forward to this week's earnings report. As mentioned above, Moderna predicted a lower number. But that isn't because Moderna lost orders or sales. The biotech still will bring in the full $20 billion. But part of it will come in a bit later. There are two reasons for this.\nFirst, Moderna is deferring the delivery of some vaccine doses to higher-income countries to early 2022. It's doing this so that it can prioritize doses to lower- and middle-income countries. And these countries pay lower prices. By delivering doses to the African Union and the COVAX initiative for equitable vaccine distribution instead of countries that pay more, Moderna will generate lower revenue in the coming weeks.\nSecond, Moderna is shipping more doses internationally than it did earlier in the year. As a result, Moderna will record sales from those orders in 2022 instead of 2021.\nWhat does this mean for investors?\nRight now, it's more important than ever to look at Moderna through a long-term lens. From quarter to quarter, vaccine deliveries -- and revenue -- may ebb and flow. And as we see here, this sort of movement has nothing to do with overall demand for the vaccine. In many cases, logistics can determine whether a delivery arrives in one quarter or the next.\nInstead, we should look at the level of advance purchase orders for the coming year -- and how Moderna plans to evolve its coronavirus vaccine program in a post-pandemic world. Right now, Moderna has signed $17 billion in advance purchase agreements. These involve upfront payments so they are pretty secure. Moderna also has options for about $3 billion. That puts next year at about the same level as this year.\nBeyond that point, it's too early to predict exactly how much coronavirus vaccine or booster revenue will represent for Moderna. But it could remain significant. Experts say the coronavirus is here to stay. That means countries will need to stock up on vaccines or boosters for at least part of their populations. And Moderna is moving forward with exciting projects for a post-pandemic world. I'm thinking of its strain-specific booster candidates and a combined flu/coronavirus/allergies candidate.\nSo, Moderna's change in this year's revenue guidance doesn't change my long-term outlook for the company. Instead, I see it as a reminder not to panic -- and to focus on the big picture over time.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":456,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":842360432,"gmtCreate":1636136106847,"gmtModify":1636136106847,"author":{"id":"4095660586591170","authorId":"4095660586591170","name":"kyesayshi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd9976a060ba53252ff6d309a7a5cfac","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095660586591170","authorIdStr":"4095660586591170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Visa(V)$after a week, lets go before 10nov!","listText":"$Visa(V)$after a week, lets go before 10nov!","text":"$Visa(V)$after a week, lets go before 10nov!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b25a3b97bdf34228b52bcf9416e45df8","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/842360432","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":488,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":846917583,"gmtCreate":1636039379002,"gmtModify":1636039379002,"author":{"id":"4095660586591170","authorId":"4095660586591170","name":"kyesayshi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd9976a060ba53252ff6d309a7a5cfac","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095660586591170","authorIdStr":"4095660586591170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Visa(V)$Christmas is coming, hmmmm...","listText":"$Visa(V)$Christmas is coming, hmmmm...","text":"$Visa(V)$Christmas is coming, hmmmm...","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/351ba82b54b7bc77f37f10df93e2f59f","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/846917583","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":749,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":846914071,"gmtCreate":1636039309188,"gmtModify":1636039309188,"author":{"id":"4095660586591170","authorId":"4095660586591170","name":"kyesayshi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd9976a060ba53252ff6d309a7a5cfac","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095660586591170","authorIdStr":"4095660586591170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Meta Platforms, Inc.(FB)$It says undervalued currently..
Instead, I see it as a reminder not to panic -- and to focus on the big picture over time.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":456,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":873885936,"gmtCreate":1636928624801,"gmtModify":1636928624801,"author":{"id":"4095660586591170","authorId":"4095660586591170","name":"kyesayshi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd9976a060ba53252ff6d309a7a5cfac","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095660586591170","authorIdStr":"4095660586591170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Lets see","listText":"Lets see","text":"Lets see","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/873885936","repostId":"1175907621","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1175907621","pubTimestamp":1636853227,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1175907621?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-14 09:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Rivian Soars On IPO, But These 3 EV Stocks Are Better Buys Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175907621","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Rivian has a bright future as a company, but its stock is priced to perfection.
With the Lucid Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, it has outdone the competition in both efficiency ratings and performance -- albeit for a high price tag.\nRivian supporters would argue that not only does Rivian have a nice head start in the lifestyle EV pickup truck market, but it's also going to be a relatively insulated market because seasoned automakers like Ford and GM are only challenging the standard pickup truck market (for now). By comparison, Lucid plans to roll out lower prices trims of its sedan that would have to compete against expensive but much more \"affordable\" luxury sedan leaders. In doing so, it plans to lower the horsepower and range of its cars, which would bridge the gap between its advantages and the competition. However, what gives Lucid the edge over Rivian is that it has proven it can go toe-to-toe with the best in the business, hit its targets, and has plans to grow quickly in 2022 and beyond.\nGiven that the growth trajectory is mapped out, Lucid has a clear path toward even greater success. However, investors should be aware that Lucid stock is likely to remain extremely volatile as the company works toward scaling production.\nEVs are here to stay\nWhat we all agree on is that electric vehicles are here to stay. They're now competitive with fossil fuel vehicles in range, costs are coming down, and the innovative companies making EVs are enabling autonomy as well.
