A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.
\n
The Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.
\n
Making big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.
\n
It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.
\n
Activision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.
\n
2. Electronic Arts
\n
Electronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.
\n
Most importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.
\n
EA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.
\n
In fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.
\n
3. Tencent
\n
Tencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.
\n
Gaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.
\n
Over the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.
\n
Tencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.
\n
\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"
\n
However, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. The stock price has fallen recently, which can be chalked up to regulatory issues and near-term investments in the business that will pressure profitability this year. Revenue is all but a lock because Taiwan Semi discloses its monthly figure every month—that sum is about NT$372 billion.
\n
Earlier this year, Taiwan Semi executives increased the company’s 2021 capital spending plan to $30 billion, from an expected $25 billion to $28 billion—and put the three-year figure at $100 billion.
\n
The company will divert most of the capital spending cash to building manufacturing capacity for its most advanced processors used by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Apple (AAPL), and Intel (INTC).
\n
J.P. Morgan analyst Gokul Hariharan expects Apple to contribute a hefty amount to Taiwan Semi’s sales since Apple’s new iPhone and Mac processors are manufactured by Taiwan chip giant. The analyst didn’t offer an dollar estimate, though.
\n
Bernstein analyst Mark Li sees a risk for Taiwan Semi in the possible slowing of demand for smartphone and cryptocurrency mining chips. He softened his assessment, however, by pointing out that the company’s older processing manufacturing capacity would be full, and that Apple could be expected to make a big contribution to third-quarter revenue. Li predicts Taiwan Semi may grow revenue about 15% in 2022.
\n
If Taiwan Semi executives do talk about the future, they could touch on the company’s new 3-nanometer production technology. Intel and Apple may be the first two companies to adopt the technology, according to Nikkei Asia, a financial news website. Mass production is set to begin in 2022, with Intel taking more chip volume than Apple, the report said.
\n
New Street Research analyst Pierre Ferragu writes that Intel’s decision to outsource production to Taiwan Semi “remains more tactical than strategic.” Given the report in Nikkei, Intel appears to be adopting the production technology ahead of AMD, Ferragu said.
\n
Of the analysts that cover Taiwan Semi, 34 rate the stock a Buy, and three have Hold ratings. Revenue is all but a lock because Taiwan Semi discloses its monthly figure every month—that sum is about NT$372 billion.\nEarlier this year, Taiwan Semi executives increased the company’s 2021 capital spending plan to $30 billion, from an expected $25 billion to $28 billion—and put the three-year figure at $100 billion.\nThe company will divert most of the capital spending cash to building manufacturing capacity for its most advanced processors used by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Apple (AAPL), and Intel (INTC).\nJ.P. Morgan analyst Gokul Hariharan expects Apple to contribute a hefty amount to Taiwan Semi’s sales since Apple’s new iPhone and Mac processors are manufactured by Taiwan chip giant. The analyst didn’t offer an dollar estimate, though.\nBernstein analyst Mark Li sees a risk for Taiwan Semi in the possible slowing of demand for smartphone and cryptocurrency mining chips. He softened his assessment, however, by pointing out that the company’s older processing manufacturing capacity would be full, and that Apple could be expected to make a big contribution to third-quarter revenue. Li predicts Taiwan Semi may grow revenue about 15% in 2022.\nIf Taiwan Semi executives do talk about the future, they could touch on the company’s new 3-nanometer production technology. Intel and Apple may be the first two companies to adopt the technology, according to Nikkei Asia, a financial news website. Mass production is set to begin in 2022, with Intel taking more chip volume than Apple, the report said.\nNew Street Research analyst Pierre Ferragu writes that Intel’s decision to outsource production to Taiwan Semi “remains more tactical than strategic.” Given the report in Nikkei, Intel appears to be adopting the production technology ahead of AMD, Ferragu said.\nOf the analysts that cover Taiwan Semi, 34 rate the stock a Buy, and three have Hold ratings. There are no Sell ratings. The average target price for American depositary receipts is $146.18, which implies upside of about 17%.\nTaiwan Semi shares advanced roughly 90% this year, as the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, Buy These Cheap Growth Stocks Right Away","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2153751984","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These growth stocks have made investors rich in the past, and they can keep doing so in the future.","content":"
It is difficult to find high-growth companies trading at attractive valuations, especially in the technology sector, where stocks usually trade at rich valuations. The rich valuations happen because they tend to outperform the broader market on the back of disruptive products and services that may fuel rapid long-term growth.
\n
Not surprisingly, the average price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index stands at 38.4 as compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average's average P/E ratio of 26.3 and the S&P 500's average multiple of 36.6.
\n
However, there are a few tech companies that continue to trade at attractive valuations despite crushing the broader market. Qorvo (NASDAQ:QRVO) and Jabil (NYSE:JBL) are two stocks that have made investors significantly richer over the past five years.
\n

\n
QRVO data by YCharts
\n
For example, a $1,000 investment in Qorvo five years ago would be worth almost $3,100 now. A similar investment in Jabil would be worth close to $2,700 now. The good part is that both companies could at least equal, if not outperform, their stellar gains in the coming years. Let's take a look at the reasons why it still makes sense to invest $1,000 in these tech stocks.
\n
Qorvo: Riding the 5G wave
\n
Qorvo is benefiting from multiple hot tech trends right now, but its biggest catalyst remains the 5G smartphone market. The chipmaker's revenue in fiscal 2021 (which ended on April 3) shot up 24% year over year to $4.02 billion. It finished the year with a gross profit margin of 46.9%, up substantially over the prior year's figure of 40.8%.
\n
Qorvo credited the \"higher demand for our 5G mobile solutions, 5G base station products, and Wi-Fi products\" for this impressive showing. The good news is that all these verticals are still in their early phases of growth. For instance, 5G smartphone shipments are expected to jump from an estimated 239 million units in 2020 to 1.12 billion units by 2025, according to Taiwan-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute.
\n

\n
\n
With Qorvo getting just over 71% of its total revenue from the mobile products segment last quarter, the 5G smartphone boom is going to move the needle significantly for the company. After all, the chipmaker supplies its wireless components to the leading players in the 5G smartphone space, including Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). The iPhone maker produced 30% of Qorvo's total revenue last fiscal year.
\n
This sizable reliance on Apple is a good thing for Qorvo as the tech giant is on fire in the 5G smartphone era. The iPhone 12 has been a runaway hit among consumers looking to make the move to a 5G device from their older iPhones, and there are at least 800 million customers in Apple's installed base that have yet to make the move to 5G. As a result, Apple is going to be a long-term catalyst for Qorvo's mobile business thanks to the massive iPhone volume opportunity at hand.
\n
Its relationship with other smartphone OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as Samsung and Xiaomi will also come in handy in the long run, as these companies are dominant players in the 5G smartphone market along with Apple.
\n
More importantly, the improved 5G smartphone volumes will help Qorvo generate faster revenue and earnings growth. That's because the radio-frequency (RF) content in mid-range 5G smartphones is doubling over their 4G predecessors, while high-end devices are witnessing an additional $5 to $7 in wireless content.
\n
Thanks to the 5G tailwind, Qorvo is anticipated to record 16% annual earnings growth for the next five years, up from the 6% annual growth seen in the last five years. This makes it an attractive growth stock to buy right now at 29.7 times trailing earnings, which is lower than the Nasdaq 100 Index's rich multiple we saw earlier.
\n
Jabil: Diverse growth drivers should lead to better times
\n
Jabil has made a fine comeback this year after the novel coronavirus pandemic derailed the company's growth in 2020. The contract electronics manufacturer delivered a solid third-quarter earnings report in June, recording 14% year-over-year revenue growth to $7.2 billion. Non-GAAP earnings had shot up to $1.30 per share during the quarter from $0.37 per share a year ago.
\n
Even better, Jabil upgraded its full-year guidance on the back of impressive momentum in the cloud, mobility, semiconductor, automotive, and connected devices markets. These end markets are on track to grow nicely for Jabil this year and beyond.
\n
In mobility, for instance, Jabil expects $4.1 billion in revenue this fiscal year, up 24% over fiscal 2020. That's not surprising as 20% of the company's total revenue comes from manufacturing casings for Apple's iPhone and iPad. We have already seen that Apple's 5G iPhones are selling like hotcakes, and they can keep doing so thanks to an upgrade supercycle that's currently playing out. This should rub off positively on Jabil's prospects as well since it has a close relationship with Apple.
\n
However, Jabil draws its revenue from a wider number of verticals. The automotive and transportation segment, for example, is expected to deliver $2.2 billion in revenue this year, up 29% from last year. This business seems to have solid long-term potential as the global automotive contract manufacturing space is expected to clock 7.2% annual growth through 2027, according to a third-party estimate.
\n
Similarly, Jabil provides contract manufacturing services to connected device manufacturers, semiconductor capital equipment makers, cloud computing customers, and networking and storage providers, among others. Grand View Research estimates that the global contract electronics manufacturing market could be worth $800 billion by 2027 as compared to $417 billion at the end of 2019.
\n
Not surprisingly, Jabil's bottom line is expected to grow at nearly 20% per year for the next five years, as it seems to be on track to take advantage of the huge end-market opportunity that lies ahead. The rich valuations happen because they tend to outperform the broader market on the back of disruptive products and services that may fuel rapid long-term growth.\nNot surprisingly, the average price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index stands at 38.4 as compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average's average P/E ratio of 26.3 and the S&P 500's average multiple of 36.6.\nHowever, there are a few tech companies that continue to trade at attractive valuations despite crushing the broader market. Qorvo (NASDAQ:QRVO) and Jabil (NYSE:JBL) are two stocks that have made investors significantly richer over the past five years.\n\nQRVO data by YCharts\nFor example, a $1,000 investment in Qorvo five years ago would be worth almost $3,100 now. A similar investment in Jabil would be worth close to $2,700 now. The good part is that both companies could at least equal, if not outperform, their stellar gains in the coming years. Let's take a look at the reasons why it still makes sense to invest $1,000 in these tech stocks.\nQorvo: Riding the 5G wave\nQorvo is benefiting from multiple hot tech trends right now, but its biggest catalyst remains the 5G smartphone market. The chipmaker's revenue in fiscal 2021 (which ended on April 3) shot up 24% year over year to $4.02 billion. It finished the year with a gross profit margin of 46.9%, up substantially over the prior year's figure of 40.8%.\nQorvo credited the \"higher demand for our 5G mobile solutions, 5G base station products, and Wi-Fi products\" for this impressive showing. The good news is that all these verticals are still in their early phases of growth. For instance, 5G smartphone shipments are expected to jump from an estimated 239 million units in 2020 to 1.12 billion units by 2025, according to Taiwan-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nWith Qorvo getting just over 71% of its total revenue from the mobile products segment last quarter, the 5G smartphone boom is going to move the needle significantly for the company. After all, the chipmaker supplies its wireless components to the leading players in the 5G smartphone space, including Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). The iPhone maker produced 30% of Qorvo's total revenue last fiscal year.\nThis sizable reliance on Apple is a good thing for Qorvo as the tech giant is on fire in the 5G smartphone era. The iPhone 12 has been a runaway hit among consumers looking to make the move to a 5G device from their older iPhones, and there are at least 800 million customers in Apple's installed base that have yet to make the move to 5G. As a result, Apple is going to be a long-term catalyst for Qorvo's mobile business thanks to the massive iPhone volume opportunity at hand.\nIts relationship with other smartphone OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as Samsung and Xiaomi will also come in handy in the long run, as these companies are dominant players in the 5G smartphone market along with Apple.\nMore importantly, the improved 5G smartphone volumes will help Qorvo generate faster revenue and earnings growth. That's because the radio-frequency (RF) content in mid-range 5G smartphones is doubling over their 4G predecessors, while high-end devices are witnessing an additional $5 to $7 in wireless content.\nThanks to the 5G tailwind, Qorvo is anticipated to record 16% annual earnings growth for the next five years, up from the 6% annual growth seen in the last five years. This makes it an attractive growth stock to buy right now at 29.7 times trailing earnings, which is lower than the Nasdaq 100 Index's rich multiple we saw earlier.\nJabil: Diverse growth drivers should lead to better times\nJabil has made a fine comeback this year after the novel coronavirus pandemic derailed the company's growth in 2020. The contract electronics manufacturer delivered a solid third-quarter earnings report in June, recording 14% year-over-year revenue growth to $7.2 billion. Non-GAAP earnings had shot up to $1.30 per share during the quarter from $0.37 per share a year ago. \nEven better, Jabil upgraded its full-year guidance on the back of impressive momentum in the cloud, mobility, semiconductor, automotive, and connected devices markets. These end markets are on track to grow nicely for Jabil this year and beyond.\nIn mobility, for instance, Jabil expects $4.1 billion in revenue this fiscal year, up 24% over fiscal 2020. That's not surprising as 20% of the company's total revenue comes from manufacturing casings for Apple's iPhone and iPad. We have already seen that Apple's 5G iPhones are selling like hotcakes, and they can keep doing so thanks to an upgrade supercycle that's currently playing out. This should rub off positively on Jabil's prospects as well since it has a close relationship with Apple.\nHowever, Jabil draws its revenue from a wider number of verticals. The automotive and transportation segment, for example, is expected to deliver $2.2 billion in revenue this year, up 29% from last year. This business seems to have solid long-term potential as the global automotive contract manufacturing space is expected to clock 7.2% annual growth through 2027, according to a third-party estimate.\nSimilarly, Jabil provides contract manufacturing services to connected device manufacturers, semiconductor capital equipment makers, cloud computing customers, and networking and storage providers, among others. Grand View Research estimates that the global contract electronics manufacturing market could be worth $800 billion by 2027 as compared to $417 billion at the end of 2019.\nNot surprisingly, Jabil's bottom line is expected to grow at nearly 20% per year for the next five years, as it seems to be on track to take advantage of the huge end-market opportunity that lies ahead. And now would be a great time to buy this tech stock as it is trading at just 14 times trailing earnings, which makes it way cheaper than the indexes discussed earlier. What's more, Jabil's forward earnings multiple of just 9.3 makes it even more attractive, giving investors another great reason to consider putting $1,000 in the stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":87,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
