market capitulat","content":"

Summary

Not all sectors or stocks will bottom at the same time in the process of the market capitulating.

Relative strength off the lows is a good tool to identify an opportunity.

Alibaba stands out as a growth name that is now at a reasonable price and exhibits signs of relative strength.

maybefalse/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images

I keep hearing that we have not yet hit the capitulation point for markets. At the same time, I have never seen the investing public swing from Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) to Fear Of Holding On (FOHO) so rapidly inmy 30-year career. First of all, there is no day on which everything capitulates (a dramatic word for bottom) at the same time. Stocks, bonds, and commodities will bottom or top as asset classes at different times. Rotating or rebalancing between the three at inflection points can make a big difference in long-term returns.

Bonds are likely to bottom with yields peaking in advance of the stock market low, because stocks are generally long-duration assets with valuations that are inversely correlated with interest rates. If 3.5% turns out to be the peak in yields for this cycle, then the bottom in the stock market may be behind us. If not, then we probably have more work to do. At the same time, we should see commodities peak in advance of the stock market bottom, because that will indicate that the peak in inflation is behind us. Still, it is impossible to determine when a downtrend or uptrend has reversed until it has developed for some time.

Secondly, the securities within each asset class do not bottom at the same time. Financials may reverse back up sooner than materials, while Bank of America (BAC) may recover well before Coinbase Global (COIN). For these reasons, there are always opportunities to invest in the market. They are either plentiful or scarce, depending on the macroeconomic and monetary policy backdrop.

Here is the great irony of it all. In January, it felt like there were unlimited investment opportunities and that it would be relatively easy to make money over the coming 12-month period. Yet it was extremely difficult for me to find good investments at reasonable valuations. It could be done, but there was not a lot from which to choose. Today, I think there are countless attractive investment opportunities based on valuation, yield, and business prospects. I could buy 25 stocks today with a 12-24 month outlook and feel very confident that I would make money. Yet investors are purging stocks like they were the plague, dumping high-quality names with yields as high is 5% that are well positioned to survive the current environment for as long as it lasts. To me, that is the definition of capitulation, but it is a process and not an event.

Lastly, It is important to remember that what led in the last bull market is not likely to lead at the beginning of the next one. Momentum and growth outperformance gave way to value and quality, as the market decline ensued, and that is likely to continue once we begin to recover. There are names that were classified as growth during that last bull market that have seen such dramatic declines that they now fall into the value camp. I think that is a good place to go shopping today if you are looking for opportunities in the ongoing process of capitulation. Relative strength is a very good tool to time it.

My latest purchase was Alibaba (NYSE:BABA), which I think is a great example of a name that has swung from growth to what could be construed as value, if not growth at a very reasonable price. This is a name that looks like it has already capitulated because after a 50% decline in the share price over the past 12 months, the stock is starting to exhibit relative strength when compared to the S&P 500. The shares bottomed in May and have made a series of higher bottoms and tops over the past six weeks as the S&P 500 has fallen to new lows.

Stockcharts.com

While the valuation has fallen to levels that make it compelling relative to its growth prospects, I think the recent outperformance has more to do with macroeconomic developments than company specific ones. China's economy continues the process of reopening, as its zero-Covid policy continues to hamper the economic recovery in China, but there has clearly been progress and the eventual return to normal should be a positive catalyst for growth. There are also signs that China is easing its regulation on the technology sector, which is another positive for Alibaba. Even if the shares recover to fall in line with the performance of the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) there is meaningful upside.

Stockcharts

At less than 14 times this year's profit estimate with a forecast for double-digit top and bottom line growth for the next several years, I like these shares on pullbacks. I think the risk is low relative to the upside from both a trading and investment standpoint.

Stockcharts

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; At the same time, I have never seen the investing public swing from Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) to Fear Of Holding On (FOHO) so rapidly inmy 30-year career. First of all, there is no day on which everything capitulates (a dramatic word for bottom) at the same time. Stocks, bonds, and commodities will bottom or top as asset classes at different times. Rotating or rebalancing between the three at inflection points can make a big difference in long-term returns.Bonds are likely to bottom with yields peaking in advance of the stock market low, because stocks are generally long-duration assets with valuations that are inversely correlated with interest rates. If 3.5% turns out to be the peak in yields for this cycle, then the bottom in the stock market may be behind us. If not, then we probably have more work to do. At the same time, we should see commodities peak in advance of the stock market bottom, because that will indicate that the peak in inflation is behind us. Still, it is impossible to determine when a downtrend or uptrend has reversed until it has developed for some time.Secondly, the securities within each asset class do not bottom at the same time. To me, that is the definition of capitulation, but it is a process and not an event.Lastly, It is important to remember that what led in the last bull market is not likely to lead at the beginning of the next one. Relative strength is a very good tool to time it.My latest purchase was Alibaba (NYSE:BABA), which I think is a great example of a name that has swung from growth to what could be construed as value, if not growth at a very reasonable price. This is a name that looks like it has already capitulated because after a 50% decline in the share price over the past 12 months, the stock is starting to exhibit relative strength when compared to the S&P 500. The shares bottomed in May and have made a series of higher bottoms and tops over the past six weeks as the S&P 500 has fallen to new lows.Stockcharts.comWhile the valuation has fallen to levels that make it compelling relative to its growth prospects, I think the recent outperformance has more to do with macroeconomic developments than company specific ones. Even if the shares recover to fall in line with the performance of the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) there is meaningful upside.StockchartsAt less than 14 times this year's profit estimate with a forecast for double-digit top and bottom line growth for the next several years, I like these shares on pullbacks. I think the risk is low relative to the upside from both a trading and investment standpoint.Stockcharts","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1086,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":689718587,"gmtCreate":1655826900551,"gmtModify":1704863323753,"author":{"id":"3579748162894863","authorId":"3579748162894863","name":"YIPKF","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cb307b178e826c212e864c04e7018162","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a planned to almost double the capital gains tax, news analysts said provided an excuse to take profits in a directionless market ahead of big tech's earnings next week.

The three main indexes on Wall Street also fell on reports that Biden planned to raise income taxes on the wealthy, a proposal some said would be hard to pass in Congress.

\"If it had a chance of passing, we'd be down 2,000 points,\" said Thomas Hayes, chairman and managing member at hedge fund Great Hill Capital LLC.

Paul Nolte, portfolio manager at Kingsview Investment Management in Chicago, said when a proposal is floated about raising taxes or capital gains, everybody gets excited, sells first and asks questions later.

\"It is more of a short-term, knee-jerk reaction,\" he said.

Biden will propose raising the marginal income tax rate to 39.6% from 37% and nearly double capital gains taxes to 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million, sources told Reuters.

The proposal targets about $1 trillion for child care, universal pre-kindergarten education and paid leave for workers, the sources said.

Markets have been listless after the Dow and S&P 500 scaled all-time peaks last week as investors await guidance from Microsoft Corp , Google parent Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc when they report earnings next week.

\"Until we get out of this information vacuum the market is going to be generally directionless,\" he said. \"All that really matters moving forward is what are those big tech earnings next week?\"

During the session, the S&P 500 healthcare sector hit a fresh record high while industrials were the biggest gainers.

American Airlines Group Inc and Southwest Airlines Co reported smaller-than-expected quarterly losses, signaling a revival in travel demand. Both shares fell.

Investors welcomed data showing the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week dropped to a fresh one-year low. The Labor Department report suggested layoffs were subsiding and expectations were rising for another month of blockbuster job growth in April.

The speedy U.S. vaccination rollout has improved the economic outlook as people plan summer vacations and leisure spending, but a surge in COVID-19 cases in India and elsewhere in Asia has kept investors anxious, Hayes said.

Equities have likely reached a near-term top as expectations are too high, said Randy Frederick, vice president of trading and derivatives at Charles Schwab.

\"There's going to be continued positive moves throughout the remainder of the year but we are due for some sort of a pullback in the very short term,\" he said. \"Then the dip buyers will step back in.\"

First-quarter earnings are expected to increase 31.9% from a year ago, the highest rate since the fourth quarter, according to IBES Refinitiv data.

All 11 S&P 500 sectors closed lower as Microsoft, Apple Inc , Amazon.com Inc and Tesla Inc weighted the most on the downdraft.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.94% to 33,815.9, the S&P 500 lost 0.92% at 4,134.98, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.94% to 13,818.41.

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.35 billion shares, compared with the 10.32 billion full-session average over the last 20 trading days.

Chipmaker Intel Corp forecast second-quarter revenue above Wall Street targets, betting its next generation of processors for data centers and PCs will meet growing demand for cloud-based services. Shares slipped about 1% in after-hours trade.

AT&T Inc beat Wall Street revenue targets as the U.S. economic reopening following pandemic-linked restrictions boosted smartphone sales and the media business. AT&T shares rose 4.2%.

Biogen Inc beat quarterly profit estimates on stronger-than-expected sales for its muscle wasting disorder drug, though concerns over its reliance on its yet-to-be approved Alzheimer's therapy, aducanumab, weighed on shares. Biogen shares fell 4.0%.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.57-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.04-to-1 ratio favored decliners.

The S&P 500 posted 84 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 86 new highs and 20 new lows. The two will keep working together on philanthropic efforts, which have addressed education, gender equality and health care.\"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,\" Bill and Melinda Gates wrote in a statement that Bill Gatestweeted out.“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”The decision reflects a personal change at the top of American business.Bill Gates led Microsoft as CEO from its founding with Paul Allen in 1975 until 2000, leaving Steve Ballmer to run the company, while Bill Gates became chairman and chief software architect. In 2008 Gatesgave up his day-to-day roleat the company to spend more time on the nonprofit Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.Last year Bill Gatesstepped downfrom Microsoft’s board asthe coronavirusbecame a force around the world. He began spending more time on the foundation alongside Melinda Gates. The two are co-chairs and trustees of the foundation, which launched in 2000.Bill and Melinda Gates both worked at Microsoft. She had been a general manager at the software company, where she worked on products such as the Encarta encyclopedia, according to herLinkedIn profile. The two met at a dinner for Microsoft employees in 1987. “It took him quite a few months before he asked me out,” Melinda Gateslater said. Bill Gates hadweighed the pros and cons on a blackboard, and in 1994 the couple were married in Hawaii.Financial details of the Gateses parting ways are not yet clear. Bill Gates owns 1.37% of Microsoft’s outstanding shares, which are worth more than $26 billion, according to FactSet. The couple were creators, along with Warren Buffett, of theGiving Pledge, a program that requires participants to give away more than half of their wealth. At one point the couple decided to move $20 billion worth of Microsoft stock to the foundation as they sought to increase their commitment to philanthropy, Bill Gates wrote in a 2019blog post. Today the foundation has more than $51 billion in assets, according to a tax filing, making itone of the world’s wealthiest foundations.“In the case of Melinda, it is a truly equal partner,” Bill Gates said in the 2019 Netflix documentary “Inside Bill’s Brain.” “She’s a lot like me in that she is optimistic and she is interested in science. She is better with people than I am. She’s a tiny bit less hardcore about knowing, you know, immunology, than I am.”In 2015 the two began pursuing areas they were interested in. Bill Gates established Breakthrough Energy, an initiative to slow climate change that includes a venture arm, and Melinda Gates created Pivotal Ventures, a company that makes investments to foster equality. For Valentine’s Day in 2020, Bill Gates posted a photoon Instagramshowing him standing with his arm around Melinda Gates. “I couldn’t ask for a better partner on this journey,” the caption said. Each year for more than a decade the Gateses have published a letter about their foundation work. In thelatest one, published in January, they reflected on the impact of the pandemic, beyond supporting the development of vaccines. “For us, the days became a blur of video meetings, troubling news alerts, and microwaved meals,” they wrote.Bill Gates is the world’s fourth richest person, behindAmazon’sJeff Bezos, LVMH’s Bernard Arnault and Tesla’s Elon Musk, according toForbes. The announcement comes two years after Bezos said he and his wife, MacKenzie, weregetting divorced. Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are among the world’s richest people, and Amazon and Microsoft compete in the cloud computing business. Amazon said earlier this year that Bezos would be stepping down from his post as CEO and that cloud chief Andy Jassywould succeed him.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":121,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":841294100,"gmtCreate":1635912660537,"gmtModify":1635912660688,"author":{"id":"3579748162894863","authorId":"3579748162894863","name":"YIPKF","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cb307b178e826c212e864c04e7018162","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$TIGR 20211217 7.5 PUT(TIGR)$ eaten by tgr[笑哭] ","listText":"$TIGR 20211217 7.5 PUT(TIGR)$ eaten by tgr[笑哭] ","text":"$TIGR 20211217 7.5 PUT(TIGR)$ eaten by tgr[笑哭]","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/80f67716e6547d5149ad3af2cc95fb42","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/841294100","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":101467372,"gmtCreate":1619933247096,"gmtModify":1634209005787,"author":{"id":"3579748162894863","authorId":"3579748162894863","name":"YIPKF","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cb307b178e826c212e864c04e7018162","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great [惊讶] ","listText":"Great [惊讶] ","text":"Great [惊讶]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/101467372","repostId":"2132603015","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2132603015","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1619872075,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2132603015?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-01 20:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Berkshire Hathaway Q1 Earnings Here!","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2132603015","media":"Reuters","summary":"May 1 (Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc :Full report here!* Q1 NET EARNINGS ATTRIBUTABLE TO BERKS","content":"
May 1 (Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc :

Full report here!

* Q1 NET EARNINGS ATTRIBUTABLE TO BERKSHIRE SHAREHOLDERS $11.71 BILLION VERSUS YEAR-EARLIER $49.75 BILLION LOSS

* Q1 OPERATING EARNINGS $7.02 BILLION VERSUS $5.87 BILLION

* Q1 NET EARNINGS PER AVERAGE EQUIVALENT CLASS A SHARE $7,638

* Q1 NET EARNINGS FROM INVESTMENT AND DERIVATIVE GAINS $4.69 BILLION VERSUS YEAR-EARLIER $55.62 BILLION NET LOSS

* AT MARCH 31, 2021, INSURANCE FLOAT WAS ABOUT $140 BILLION, INCREASE OF ABOUT $2 BILLION SINCE YEAREND 2020

* ABOUT $6.6 BILLION WAS USED TO PURCHASE SHARES OF CLASS A AND CLASS B COMMON STOCK DURING THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2021

Source text for Eikon: Further company coverage:

Full article of Berkshire Hathaway Q1 report
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The oft-repeated refrain is that Tesla isn","content":"
Teslabears need to stop harping onregulatory creditsales. The oft-repeated refrain is that Tesla isn’t profitable without credit sales. There are plenty of reasons bears can avoid Tesla stock, butcreditsTesla earns, and then sells for cash to other auto makers, for producing more than its shares of zero emission vehicles isn’t one of them.
\n
Tesla (ticker: TSLA) sold more than $500 million in regulatory credits in thefirst quarterand generated just under $600 million in operating profit. Excluding the credits, Tesla only eked out a small operating profit.
\n
But saying Tesla isn’t profitable without regulatory credits is falling victim to the fallacy of the predetermined outcome. It’s like saying the New York Jets lost a football game because of a bad call in the first quarter. There are many reasons the Jets lose and a refereeing mistakes aren’t one of them.
\n
To drive the analogy further, any Jets game would be totally different if the ref didn’t mess up. A penalty not called, or called, changes each subsequent play in unknown ways. If Tesla didn’t have regulatory credits to sell, the company would have to raise prices or cut costs or do something else to make money. The company would adapt to the situation.
\n
Raising prices could be a way to go, but higher prices, of course, have their own impact, potentially reducing demand. Tesla still managed to grow sales even after the company lost its $7,500 U.S. federaltax credit. That isn’t available to Tesla buyers any longer because Tesla has sold too many EVs to qualify.
\n
Tesla lost that federal credit at the end of 2019. It was effectively a $7,500 price increase in the U.S. on Jan. 1, 2020. Tesla sales in the U.S. grew 20% this past year, hitting $15.2 billion, up from $12.7 billion in 2019.
\n
There is one other–rather large–point about regulatory credits. They aren’t going away. If anything, they will increase. Government support might morph from what Tesla sells today into new purchase tax credits or something else, but governmentsin Chinaandthe U.S.are looking to increase the number of EVs sold.
\n
Refusing to deduct credit sales from operating income doesn’t make an investor a Tesla devotee. There are plenty of reasons people can choose to avoid the stock.Valuationbeing chief among them. Tesla is the world’s most valuable auto maker by a factor of roughly three even though it makes a fraction of the cars thatToyota Motor(TM), the second most valuable car company, does.
\n
Valuation is a stale reason to dislike the stock. People have been complaining about valuation for a long time. Investors can also decide that competition is ramping higher or that full self-driving technology will take longer to develop than Tesla currently believes and suggests. Autonomous driving isn’t easy. Elon Musk calls it the company’s hardest challenge and its biggest potential value creator.
\n
There is something in Tesla stock for full self-driving technology. How much is hard to say. Morgan Stanley analystAdam Jonasvalues Tesla mobility and network services business opportunities at roughly $330 a share.
\n
Those include software sales and robotaxis–both businesses are dependent on autonomous driving technology. The oft-repeated refrain is that Tesla isn’t profitable without credit sales. There are plenty of reasons bears can avoid Tesla stock, butcreditsTesla earns, and then sells for cash to other auto makers, for producing more than its shares of zero emission vehicles isn’t one of them.\nTesla (ticker: TSLA) sold more than $500 million in regulatory credits in thefirst quarterand generated just under $600 million in operating profit. Excluding the credits, Tesla only eked out a small operating profit.\nBut saying Tesla isn’t profitable without regulatory credits is falling victim to the fallacy of the predetermined outcome. It’s like saying the New York Jets lost a football game because of a bad call in the first quarter. There are many reasons the Jets lose and a refereeing mistakes aren’t one of them.\nTo drive the analogy further, any Jets game would be totally different if the ref didn’t mess up. A penalty not called, or called, changes each subsequent play in unknown ways. If Tesla didn’t have regulatory credits to sell, the company would have to raise prices or cut costs or do something else to make money. The company would adapt to the situation.\nRaising prices could be a way to go, but higher prices, of course, have their own impact, potentially reducing demand. Tesla still managed to grow sales even after the company lost its $7,500 U.S. federaltax credit. That isn’t available to Tesla buyers any longer because Tesla has sold too many EVs to qualify.\nTesla lost that federal credit at the end of 2019. It was effectively a $7,500 price increase in the U.S. on Jan. 1, 2020. Tesla sales in the U.S. grew 20% this past year, hitting $15.2 billion, up from $12.7 billion in 2019.\nThere is one other–rather large–point about regulatory credits. They aren’t going away. If anything, they will increase. Government support might morph from what Tesla sells today into new purchase tax credits or something else, but governmentsin Chinaandthe U.S.are looking to increase the number of EVs sold.\nRefusing to deduct credit sales from operating income doesn’t make an investor a Tesla devotee. There are plenty of reasons people can choose to avoid the stock.Valuationbeing chief among them. Tesla is the world’s most valuable auto maker by a factor of roughly three even though it makes a fraction of the cars thatToyota Motor(TM), the second most valuable car company, does.\nValuation is a stale reason to dislike the stock. People have been complaining about valuation for a long time. Investors can also decide that competition is ramping higher or that full self-driving technology will take longer to develop than Tesla currently believes and suggests. Autonomous driving isn’t easy. Elon Musk calls it the company’s hardest challenge and its biggest potential value creator.\nThere is something in Tesla stock for full self-driving technology. How much is hard to say. Morgan Stanley analystAdam Jonasvalues Tesla mobility and network services business opportunities at roughly $330 a share.\nThose include software sales and robotaxis–both businesses are dependent on autonomous driving technology. His value is almost half of Tesla’s current stock price. Although Jonas’ Tesla target is $900 a share, making those business closer to one-third of the value he sees in the company.\nAutonomous hiccups, valuation and competition should be enough reason to avoid the stock. Just stop saying the company doesn’t make money without regulatory credits.\nTesla shares are down about 2% year to date, trailing behind comparable gains of theS&P 500andDow Jones Industrial Average.Investors aren’t worried about the credit conundrum. It has been constantly increasing its deliveries every quarter, its revenues have been growing at a triple-digit rate in recent years, and despite competing in the luxurious SUV segment, its cars are more affordable in comparison to the cars of its peers such as Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA). While NIO's stock has depreciated last month, there's every reason to believe that its growth story is far from over, as the Chinese EV market will continue to aggressively expand in the upcoming years and the penetration of electric vehicles on its roads is only going to increase. Considering this, the company has all the chances to create additional shareholder value in the long run.
\n
Dominating the Chinese Market
\n
Founded in 2014, NIO is an electric vehicle manufacturer that's headquartered in Shanghai, China. The company mostly specializes in the development of luxurious electric SUVs and just likeXPeng(XPEV), it manufactures and sells its cars online and through its showrooms across China. In addition, NIO also offers various energy-related solutions such as home charging stations, mobile charging services, and others to its customers.
\n
In recent years, the company has been aggressively growing, as the deliveries of its cars have been steadily increasing quarter after quarter, which led to the appreciation of its stock. However, due to the overall market selloff last month, NIO's stock along with stocks of other EV manufacturers such as XPeng, Tesla, and Li Auto (LI) evaporated most of its YTD gains and are currently underperforming the S&P 500 Index.
\n

\n
Chart: Seeking Alpha
\n
Despite this, there's every reason to believe that NIO's stock will recover, as the company's successful performance in Q1 shows that its growth story is far from over. InQ1alone NIO beat the Street expectations by $160 million and generated $1.22 billion in revenues, which represents an increase of 481.8% Y/Y. In addition, the company's gross profit was $237.3 million, while its vehicle margin was 21.2% against -7.4% a year ago. During the period, NIO has also improved its bottom-line performance, as its net loss was only $68.8 million, and despite the chip shortages and the Chinese New Year its deliveries have also increased by 422.7% Y/Y and by 15.6% Q/Q to 20,060.
\n
One of the best things about NIO is that it already has a dominant position in the Chinese EV industry and it also has a solid balance sheet, as its cash reserves at the end of Q1stoodat $7.2 billion, while it had only $1.59 billion in long-term debt. As a result, it can easily reinvest its resources back into the business to drive growth and establish an even stronger foothold in its home market without worrying too much about the current losses.
\n
On top of that, while some might say that by trading at a price-to-salesratioof ~13x NIO is overvalued, the reality is that its momentum is not slowing down and there's every reason to believe that the growth story is far from over. Considering that even at the market cap of ~$70 billion NIO still trades below the Streetconsensusprice of $59.24 per share, it's safe to assume that the upside is still there, especially since the current forecasts suggest that the company will increase its revenues from $2.49 billion in FY20 to $8.81 billion in FY22.
\n

\n
Source: Seeking Alpha
\n
At this stage, the major competitor of NIO's flagship SUVES8is Tesla's Model X. However, there are several reasons to believe that the ES8 is a more attractive car in comparison to the Model X, and as a result, NIO has all the opportunities to outsell its competitor in China in the long run. First of all, the ES8 has more legroom and headroom than the Model X, it also has a luxurious interior, and it comes with three different battery packages that could last from 415 kilometers to 580 kilometers on a single charge.
\n
All of the ES8 SUVs include a proprietary operating system, have advanced navigation software, and most importantly cost ~$70,000 per vehicle in China, which is below the cost of Tesla's Model X, which comes at a price tag of ~$110,000 per vehicle in the region. We believe that this pricing advantage will undoubtedly help NIO to outsell Tesla in the SUV segment, especially since its cars now could bepurchasedat a discount thanks to the new Chinese subsidy program.
\n
Another uniqueness of NIO is its battery as a service business model, which allows its customers to swap their batteries in various swapping stations around China if they don't want to charge their cars or are in a hurry. After recently deploying the second version of its Power Swap stations, the swapping of batteries is now done in under three minutes, which is the same as refueling a traditional ICE car, and a single station now could perform up to 312 battery swaps in a single day. NIO now has a network of charging stations across all of China and if the solid-state batteries won't be available by the end of the decade at scale, then the idea of swapping batteries on the go will remain a viable business model in the long run.
\n
Going forward, NIO plans to accelerate its deliveries this month in order to meet its Q2 goal of delivering 21,000 to 22,000 vehicles, which represents a growth of 103% Y/Y to 113% Y/Y and plans to generate $1.24 to $1.29 billion in revenues during the period. Despite the semiconductor shortages, NIO already managed to increase its deliveries in April and May to 7,102 vehicles and 6,711 vehicles, respectively, which represents a growth of 125% Y/Y and 95.3% Y/Y, respectively. On top of that, NIO is also on track to deliver 90,000 to 100,000 vehicles this year.
\n
Considering this, there's every reason to believe that NIO will continue to be a dominant player in the Chinese EV market and a leader of the luxury EV segment in the region. While the company doesn't have an infrastructure outside China, we don't think that's a downside at all since China is the biggest EV market in the world that's constantly growing and NIO has better chances of creating shareholder value there than abroad. While NIO's stock has depreciated last month, there's every reason to believe that its growth story is far from over, as the Chinese EV market will continue to aggressively expand in the upcoming years and the penetration of electric vehicles on its roads is only going to increase. Considering this, the company has all the chances to create additional shareholder value in the long run.\nDominating the Chinese Market\nFounded in 2014, NIO is an electric vehicle manufacturer that's headquartered in Shanghai, China. The company mostly specializes in the development of luxurious electric SUVs and just likeXPeng(XPEV), it manufactures and sells its cars online and through its showrooms across China. In addition, NIO also offers various energy-related solutions such as home charging stations, mobile charging services, and others to its customers.\nIn recent years, the company has been aggressively growing, as the deliveries of its cars have been steadily increasing quarter after quarter, which led to the appreciation of its stock. However, due to the overall market selloff last month, NIO's stock along with stocks of other EV manufacturers such as XPeng, Tesla, and Li Auto (LI) evaporated most of its YTD gains and are currently underperforming the S&P 500 Index.\n\nChart: Seeking Alpha\nDespite this, there's every reason to believe that NIO's stock will recover, as the company's successful performance in Q1 shows that its growth story is far from over. During the period, NIO has also improved its bottom-line performance, as its net loss was only $68.8 million, and despite the chip shortages and the Chinese New Year its deliveries have also increased by 422.7% Y/Y and by 15.6% Q/Q to 20,060.\nOne of the best things about NIO is that it already has a dominant position in the Chinese EV industry and it also has a solid balance sheet, as its cash reserves at the end of Q1stoodat $7.2 billion, while it had only $1.59 billion in long-term debt. As a result, it can easily reinvest its resources back into the business to drive growth and establish an even stronger foothold in its home market without worrying too much about the current losses.\nOn top of that, while some might say that by trading at a price-to-salesratioof ~13x NIO is overvalued, the reality is that its momentum is not slowing down and there's every reason to believe that the growth story is far from over. Considering that even at the market cap of ~$70 billion NIO still trades below the Streetconsensusprice of $59.24 per share, it's safe to assume that the upside is still there, especially since the current forecasts suggest that the company will increase its revenues from $2.49 billion in FY20 to $8.81 billion in FY22.\n\nSource: Seeking Alpha\nAt this stage, the major competitor of NIO's flagship SUVES8is Tesla's Model X. However, there are several reasons to believe that the ES8 is a more attractive car in comparison to the Model X, and as a result, NIO has all the opportunities to outsell its competitor in China in the long run. First of all, the ES8 has more legroom and headroom than the Model X, it also has a luxurious interior, and it comes with three different battery packages that could last from 415 kilometers to 580 kilometers on a single charge.\nAll of the ES8 SUVs include a proprietary operating system, have advanced navigation software, and most importantly cost ~$70,000 per vehicle in China, which is below the cost of Tesla's Model X, which comes at a price tag of ~$110,000 per vehicle in the region. We believe that this pricing advantage will undoubtedly help NIO to outsell Tesla in the SUV segment, especially since its cars now could bepurchasedat a discount thanks to the new Chinese subsidy program.\nAnother uniqueness of NIO is its battery as a service business model, which allows its customers to swap their batteries in various swapping stations around China if they don't want to charge their cars or are in a hurry. After recently deploying the second version of its Power Swap stations, the swapping of batteries is now done in under three minutes, which is the same as refueling a traditional ICE car, and a single station now could perform up to 312 battery swaps in a single day. NIO now has a network of charging stations across all of China and if the solid-state batteries won't be available by the end of the decade at scale, then the idea of swapping batteries on the go will remain a viable business model in the long run.\nGoing forward, NIO plans to accelerate its deliveries this month in order to meet its Q2 goal of delivering 21,000 to 22,000 vehicles, which represents a growth of 103% Y/Y to 113% Y/Y and plans to generate $1.24 to $1.29 billion in revenues during the period. Despite the semiconductor shortages, NIO already managed to increase its deliveries in April and May to 7,102 vehicles and 6,711 vehicles, respectively, which represents a growth of 125% Y/Y and 95.3% Y/Y, respectively. On top of that, NIO is also on track to deliver 90,000 to 100,000 vehicles this year.\nConsidering this, there's every reason to believe that NIO will continue to be a dominant player in the Chinese EV market and a leader of the luxury EV segment in the region. While the company doesn't have an infrastructure outside China, we don't think that's a downside at all since China is the biggest EV market in the world that's constantly growing and NIO has better chances of creating shareholder value there than abroad. For that reason, we believe that NIO's growth story is far from over and it's likely that as long as its deliveries increase with every quarter, its stock will be rising in value in the long run.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":115,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":111198639,"gmtCreate":1622657814221,"gmtModify":1634099474241,"author":{"id":"3579748162894863","authorId":"3579748162894863","name":"YIPKF","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cb307b178e826c212e864c04e7018162","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What[疑问] ","listText":"What[疑问] ","text":"What[疑问]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/111198639","repostId":"1110280969","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1110280969","pubTimestamp":1622647352,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1110280969?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-02 23:22","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla files trademark, hinting at Elon Musk’s restaurant concept plans","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1110280969","media":"TechCrunch","summary":"Image Credits: Tesla\nTesla has recently filed a new trademark for its brand under restaurant service","content":"
\n
Tesla has recently filed a new trademark for its brand under restaurant services, a sign the company might be finally gearing up to deliver on an idea that CEO Elon Musk and other company executives have discussed publicly since at least 2017.
\n
The company applied for three new trademarks that will cover the categories of: “Restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services, according to the May 27 filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office that was first reported by Electrek. For a given level of risk, if you diversify you can get a higher return. That's pretty cool! This position was offered by Swensen's other dissertation adviser, Yale's provost,William Brainard. Swensen's candidacy was suggested by James Tobin, who, despite his former student's young age, believed he could be the right person. Swensen was hesitant about taking the job at first, since he did not know much about portfolio management aside from his studies in graduate school. Nevertheless, Brainard convinced him to take the position and Swensen started on April 1, 1985 by taking 80% pay cut. A year later, in 1986, he was joined by Yale College and School of Management graduate Dean Takahashi, who soon became Swensen's trusted deputy. In 1985, when Swensen started managing the endowment, it was worth $1 billion; in 2019 it was worth $29.4 billion.

As of 2005, the fund has managed annualized returns of 16.1%. He has been called \"Yale's 8 billion dollar man\" for his attainment of nearly $8 billion for the college endowment from 1985 to 2005. According to former Yale President, economistRichard Levin, Swensen's \"contribution\" to Yale is greater than the sum of all the donations made in more than two decades. \"We've just done better,\" Levin says, because of Swensen's \"uncanny ability\" to pick the best outside money managers. Swensen's former staff members, who later became managers of other endowment funds - includingMIT,StanfordandPrinceton- also showed impressive results in multiplying fund wealth.

In September 2014, Swensen began to move the Yale endowment away from investment in companies that have a large greenhouse footprint, expressing Yale's preferences in a letter to the endowment's money managers. The letter asked them to consider the effect of their investments on climate change, and to refrain from investing in companies that do not make reasonable efforts to reduce carbon emissions. This method was characterized by Swensen as a more subtle and flexible approach, as opposed to outright divestment.

Swensen made headlines on March 5, 2018 for arguing with the undergraduate editor-in-chief of theYale Daily News.
