Which vehicle maker offers the best deal based on market opportunity, scale, revenue model, growth prospects and valuation? I will compare Ford against NIO in each category and issue a final verdict at the end.</p>\n<p><b>Ford vs. NIO: The battle for the global electric vehicle market is heating up</b></p>\n<p>Although there is a world of difference between Ford and NIO, both companies are set to go toe-to-toe in the rapidly growing global electric vehicle market. Ford’s fleet is not yet EV-focused but this is going to change: Feeling that the EV race is heating up, Ford said it is accelerating its electrification plan by investing&nbsp;$30B into its EV manufacturing capabilities until 2025. Ford’s previous capital plan called for a $22B investment in zero-emission vehicles. Ford also set an ambitious sales goal: 40% of its global sales will be electric within the next decade and 33% of pickup truck sales. Electric vehicle sales account for just 1% of Ford's sales today. As Ford is phasing out combustion engines, it is set to evolve into an all-electric vehicle maker by 2040.</p>\n<p><b>Market opportunity</b></p>\n<p>In 2020, 3.2m electric vehicles were sold in the world which represented a small market share of just 4.2%. China, however, was responsible for buying 41% of all electric vehicles in the world in 2020. Chinese buyers purchased 1.3m electric vehicles last year and sales are set to grow fast as Beijing seeks to boost EV adoption. The second largest market for electric vehicles was Europe which accounted for 42% of global EV sales. The US is only the third-largest market for plug-in electric vehicles in the world.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b48c23b32134542f51227d9b1b612887\" tg-width=\"1083\" tg-height=\"863\"><span>(Source: Wikipedia)</span></p>\n<p>China, by far, is the fastest growing EV market in the world, although Europe is catching up fast, in part due to a legislative efforts to increase adoption of zero-emission passenger vehicles and because of massive investments in a Europe-wide charging station network. NIO is&nbsp;on the cusp of entering the European market&nbsp;in a bid to grow market share in the world’s second-largest EV market before the competition is ready.</p>\n<p>Beijing is a driver behind the electrification of the Chinese auto industry: The government wants to see a&nbsp;twenty percent share&nbsp;of electric vehicles for new car sales by 2025 which will drive EV penetration in NIO’s home market.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9871e44eaf69adb27151425887870ace\" tg-width=\"739\" tg-height=\"454\"><span>(Source:Schroders)</span></p>\n<p>Turning to growth projections.</p>\n<p>With more favorable government policies for EV makers in places like China and Europe, these markets are poised to see the fastest sales growth and the highest EV adoption rates in the world. China is not only the largest market due to population size but is also expected to outperform all other markets in the world in EV sales until 2030.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/61d19dff2f34e2d8828aca854e85d84a\" tg-width=\"825\" tg-height=\"565\"><span>(Source:McKinsey)</span></p>\n<p>Since China has a larger total market size, a higher EV adoption rate, stronger expected sales growth and a more favorable regulatory framework, the winner here would be: NIO.</p>\n<p><b>Scale and manufacturing competence</b></p>\n<p>Ford has a century’s worth of manufacturing experience. But Ford, so far, has only one all-electric vehicle in its product line-up that compares to NIO: The Mustang Mach-E SUV. In 2022, Ford will begin to sell the all-electric F-150 Lightening which builds on the success of Ford’s best-selling pick-up truck. NIO already has a stronger product catalog including the 5-seater ES6 SUV, the 5-seater coupe SUV EC6 and the ES8, a 6-seater and 7-seater full-sized SUV.</p>\n<p>Since NIO is solely focused on producing EVs and occupies a very small and defined niche, the Chinese firm has an advantage as far as EV-manufacturing expertise goes. The question is how long this advantage can last. Ford has extensive experience in building cars and can leverage a global manufacturing base to ramp up EV production faster than any niche EV maker could ever hope to achieve. This makes Ford a very serious rival not only to Tesla (TSLA) in the US, but also to NIO abroad. Ford is accelerating its electrification plans and it has the resources and the ambition to become a leader in EVs within the next decade. Ford’s proposed $30B spending on the electrification of its fleet will accelerate its transformation and turn Ford into a long term threat to other EV makers.</p>\n<p>Winner here: Ford.</p>\n<p><b>Differentiation and BaaS revenue model</b></p>\n<p>Both Ford and NIO know about the importance of differentiation in a market that will only get more competitive over time, which is why both companies are investing heavily in a related field that can break or solidify dominance in the EV market: Battery technology.</p>\n<p>Ford is&nbsp;forming a joint venture&nbsp;with South Korean battery technology company SK Innovation to secure supply of traction battery cells and array modules. The joint venture is meant to accelerate battery deliveries and will produce approximately 60 GWh annually, enough to cover 25% of Ford’s estimated annual energy demand by 2030. NIO is also investing in battery technology and has&nbsp;formed its own joint venture&nbsp;to secure battery supply.</p>\n<p>The difference to Ford is that NIO’s battery investment strategy revolves around a battery subscription model, also called “battery-as-a-service”, which creates a strong, long term revenue opportunity for the Chinese vehicle maker. Under this “BaaS” model, users who buy a NIO electric vehicle get a 70,000 RMB initial discount, equivalent to $10,800, and can sign up for a monthly subscription to rent a rechargeable 70 kWh battery. Batteries can then be exchanged at one of NIO’s battery-swapping stations which can be found in most big Chinese cities. A battery subscription costs 980 RMB monthly which is the equivalent of $150.</p>\n<p>The BaaS model has a couple of benefits for both the vehicle maker and the user: Purchasing an electric vehicle from NIO gets a lot more affordable due to the up-front discount and the subscription model ensures that users benefit from advancement in battery technology and better performance over time. Decoupling battery costs from vehicle prices creates an entirely new revenue stream on a subscription basis for NIO. Revenues from “BaaS” subscriptions could be used to increase the density of NIO’s network of charging/replacement stations. The battery subscription model also binds customers to NIO, potentially increasing customer lifetime value.</p>\n<p>Ford and NIO are primed to benefit from falling battery costs for electric vehicles as they ramp up capital allocations. As more investments flow into developing more efficient batteries, performance will go up and costs will go down which should drive EV adoption and benefit all EV makers. This is because lower battery prices make EVs more competitive to passenger vehicles with combustion engines. But since NIO is structuring a part of its business model explicitly around battery subscriptions, NIO could benefit more than Ford.</p>\n<p>Battery costs for EVs have decreased 70% since 2014, based on information provided by investment firm Schroders, and are set to decrease more this decade.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c42acb75905affe7570a2f399ea3192f\" tg-width=\"758\" tg-height=\"449\"><span>(Source: Schroders)</span></p>\n<p>The “BaaS” model is genius and could develop into a $500M a year revenue opportunity for NIO long term. Although Ford is ramping up its investments in battery technology, the winner in this category is: NIO.</p>\n<p><b>Sales growth and valuation</b></p>\n<p>Ford’s sales in May grew 4.1% Y/Y but electrified vehicle sales (including hybrids) surged 184% Y/Y as Ford sold a record 10,364 EVs/hybrids in May. Escape electrified sales and Explorer Hybrid grew sales at 125% and 132% Y/Y showing strong customer uptake. NIO delivered 6,711 vehicles last month including 3,017 ES6s, 1,412 ES8s and 2,282 EC6s. Total Y/Y delivery growth for May was 95.3%.</p>\n<p>Ford's sales are fifty-four times larger than NIO's which creates more sales growth and revaluation potential for NIO.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/df5a0a393e44ed74241c5effcdd92350\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"419\"><span>Data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>The difference in valuation between Ford and NIO is like the difference between night and day. This is because Ford is still seen as a mature vehicle maker with expected enterprise sales growth in the low-to-mid digits, despite explosive growth in the EV category. Ford is expected to grow revenues by 33% until FY 2025 (base year: FY 2020) and NIO by 808%!</p>\n<p>Due to these differences in sales growth, NIO is the complete opposite of Ford, at least as far as valuation goes. The Chinese EV-maker is expected to see sales and delivery growth close to 100% this year and since NIO is only dealing in EVs, NIO gets a much higher market-cap-to-sales ratio than Ford.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/817605c6b1e82c03d0473ea570d32b8f\" tg-width=\"506\" tg-height=\"406\"><span>(Source: Author)</span></p>\n<p><b>NIO has larger risks...</b></p>\n<p>NIO is the more risky venture, but also the one that offers the most promise. Government policy favors EV-makers like NIO. The potential for total global sales growth is larger for NIO as it operates from a smaller revenue base compared to Ford. But there are also a few things that work against NIO. For example, recalls due to production defects would be a much bigger challenge for NIO to overcome than for Ford which can rely on a global service and distribution network. NIO’s valuation is also not without risk as an unexpected slowing of sales growth due to production setbacks would leave a much larger dent in the financials.</p>\n<p><b>Final verdict</b></p>\n<p>NIO is definitely the more “sexy” vehicle maker. Strong adoption and sales growth in China and Europe support NIO. Its super smart BaaS model which decouples vehicle purchase prices from battery costs is genius. You pay a high price for this growth but the market opportunity for NIO is immense.</p>\n<p>Ford’s EV sales are booming and the percentage of EV sales will increase as the vehicle maker electrifies its fleet. Ford has a lot of potential in the EV market but since EV sales are still a relatively low percentage of total sales, it will take a long time for Ford to complete its transformation.</p>\n<p>If you believe in the potential of the global EV market, buy NIO. Ford’s proposed $30B spending on the electrification of its fleet will accelerate its transformation and turn Ford into a long term threat to other EV makers.\nWinner here: Ford.\nDifferentiation and BaaS revenue model\nBoth Ford and NIO know about the importance of differentiation in a market that will only get more competitive over time, which is why both companies are investing heavily in a related field that can break or solidify dominance in the EV market: Battery technology.\nFord is forming a joint venture with South Korean battery technology company SK Innovation to secure supply of traction battery cells and array modules. The joint venture is meant to accelerate battery deliveries and will produce approximately 60 GWh annually, enough to cover 25% of Ford’s estimated annual energy demand by 2030. NIO is also investing in battery technology and has formed its own joint venture to secure battery supply.\nThe difference to Ford is that NIO’s battery investment strategy revolves around a battery subscription model, also called “battery-as-a-service”, which creates a strong, long term revenue opportunity for the Chinese vehicle maker. Under this “BaaS” model, users who buy a NIO electric vehicle get a 70,000 RMB initial discount, equivalent to $10,800, and can sign up for a monthly subscription to rent a rechargeable 70 kWh battery. Batteries can then be exchanged at one of NIO’s battery-swapping stations which can be found in most big Chinese cities. A battery subscription costs 980 RMB monthly which is the equivalent of $150.\nThe BaaS model has a couple of benefits for both the vehicle maker and the user: Purchasing an electric vehicle from NIO gets a lot more affordable due to the up-front discount and the subscription model ensures that users benefit from advancement in battery technology and better performance over time. Decoupling battery costs from vehicle prices creates an entirely new revenue stream on a subscription basis for NIO. Revenues from “BaaS” subscriptions could be used to increase the density of NIO’s network of charging/replacement stations. The battery subscription model also binds customers to NIO, potentially increasing customer lifetime value.\nFord and NIO are primed to benefit from falling battery costs for electric vehicles as they ramp up capital allocations. As more investments flow into developing more efficient batteries, performance will go up and costs will go down which should drive EV adoption and benefit all EV makers. This is because lower battery prices make EVs more competitive to passenger vehicles with combustion engines. But since NIO is structuring a part of its business model explicitly around battery subscriptions, NIO could benefit more than Ford.\nBattery costs for EVs have decreased 70% since 2014, based on information provided by investment firm Schroders, and are set to decrease more this decade.\n(Source: Schroders)\nThe “BaaS” model is genius and could develop into a $500M a year revenue opportunity for NIO long term. Although Ford is ramping up its investments in battery technology, the winner in this category is: NIO.\nSales growth and valuation\nFord’s sales in May grew 4.1% Y/Y but electrified vehicle sales (including hybrids) surged 184% Y/Y as Ford sold a record 10,364 EVs/hybrids in May. Escape electrified sales and Explorer Hybrid grew sales at 125% and 132% Y/Y showing strong customer uptake. NIO delivered 6,711 vehicles last month including 3,017 ES6s, 1,412 ES8s and 2,282 EC6s. Total Y/Y delivery growth for May was 95.3%.\nFord's sales are fifty-four times larger than NIO's which creates more sales growth and revaluation potential for NIO.\nData by YCharts\nThe difference in valuation between Ford and NIO is like the difference between night and day. This is because Ford is still seen as a mature vehicle maker with expected enterprise sales growth in the low-to-mid digits, despite explosive growth in the EV category. Ford is expected to grow revenues by 33% until FY 2025 (base year: FY 2020) and NIO by 808%!\nDue to these differences in sales growth, NIO is the complete opposite of Ford, at least as far as valuation goes. The Chinese EV-maker is expected to see sales and delivery growth close to 100% this year and since NIO is only dealing in EVs, NIO gets a much higher market-cap-to-sales ratio than Ford.\n(Source: Author)\nNIO has larger risks...\nNIO is the more risky venture, but also the one that offers the most promise. Government policy favors EV-makers like NIO. The potential for total global sales growth is larger for NIO as it operates from a smaller revenue base compared to Ford. But there are also a few things that work against NIO. For example, recalls due to production defects would be a much bigger challenge for NIO to overcome than for Ford which can rely on a global service and distribution network. NIO’s valuation is also not without risk as an unexpected slowing of sales growth due to production setbacks would leave a much larger dent in the financials.\nFinal verdict\nNIO is definitely the more “sexy” vehicle maker. Strong adoption and sales growth in China and Europe support NIO. Its super smart BaaS model which decouples vehicle purchase prices from battery costs is genius. You pay a high price for this growth but the market opportunity for NIO is immense.\nFord’s EV sales are booming and the percentage of EV sales will increase as the vehicle maker electrifies its fleet. But the company isn't as bad. On the contrary, the data analytics firm is performing well on several parameters – such as customer growth, government order wins and margin expansion – which should come as an encouraging sign for its long-side investors and dispel such speculative bearish narratives. Let's take a closer look.</p>\n<p><b>Rapid Customer Growth</b></p>\n<p>Bears have been criticizing Palantir for its bespoke functionality ever since it went public. Its platforms involve customization for various workflows and customer needs, so bears feel the company faces difficulty in onboarding several customers at once and as a result, it’s bottlenecked and its growth momentum can fizzle out. While I respect contrasting opinions, fact of the matter here is that Palantir doesn’t seem to be struggling with customer adds.</p>\n<p>The company’s customer count increased by over 7% on a sequential basis in Q1 2021. Our database at Business Quant reveals that this pace of growth is actually higher than that reported by some of the other renowned names in the software application and infrastructure industries. This immediately dispels the narrative that Palantir faces difficulty in scaling customer relationships due to its bespoke features, whenit's performing better than peers in this regard.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/37577e60466b8a980efd8bee77b02711\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"516\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>The company’s elevated pace of customer additions shouldn’t come as a surprise to my readers. I’ve explained in my prior articles how the company is undertaking a slew of measures – such as adopting a customer-friendly&nbsp;payment model, ramping up its&nbsp;sales function&nbsp;and introducing&nbsp;free trials&nbsp;for major enterprises – to expand its customer base. These initiatives were announced only a few months ago, and will continue for the rest of FY21, so I expect Palantir to continue adding customers at a rapid rate in near future as well.</p>\n<p>Having said that, there’s no denying that Palantir’s customer base isn’t as sizable as some of its peers, but that’s also where its growth opportunity lies. It suggests that Palantir is yet to penetrate its target market in a big way and that its lower base effect makes it easier for the company to continue expanding its customer base at elevated rates.</p>\n<p>There are broadly four takeaways here, which, by the way, the bears seem to discount time and again. These are:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Palantir's target market isn't saturated yet and it can still find new customers with ease,</li>\n <li>These new customers are bound to lift the company’s revenue higher in 2021 by a varied magnitude, depending on their contract value,</li>\n <li>If these are recurring contracts, then that’s going to boost Palantir’s future revenue projections and guidance,</li>\n <li>If these new customers eventually ramp up their spend, then that's also going to boost Palantir’s future cash flows.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Regarding the last bullet, it's worth noting that Palantir’s top 20 customers, in general, have significantly ramped up their spending on the company’s data analytics platforms in each of the last 10 years. This new batch of customers, and any future customer additions, could also go through this spending expansion phase in the subsequent years and gradually boost Palantir’s revenue along the way. So, we must give due importance to its rapid pace of customer adds and not take it lightly.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f4923a1dd5cc6af812c6dd7b8335f878\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"426\"><span>(Source: BusinessQuant.com)</span></p>\n<p><b>Margin Expansion</b></p>\n<p>Another issue with assessing Palantir’s growth prospects is that the company isn’t profitable yet. While some feel the stock will remain subdued due to its weak margin profile, others feel it can collapse down to single digits. The frustration is understandable given the company posted a net loss of $0.07 per share in its most recent quarter.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/facd3a7bf5326c841c6f0e79d392d160\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"125\"><span>(Source:Seeking Alpha)</span></p>\n<p>But I wanted to see for myself if Palantir’s margin profile was actually as hopeless as many believe it to be. So, I compiled the margin profiles for about 90 software infrastructure stocks listed on US bourses. There's no denying that the company's net profit margin is in the red. But what's surprising here is that Palantir had actually posted one of the highest sequential net margin expansions in Q1, in its peer group. To the best of my knowledge, this aspect of Palantir’s business hasn’t been discussed on any investing forum.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/25614333f421bbcdaf90b43a6ed8e011\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"552\"><span>(Source: BusinessQuant.com)</span></p>\n<p>The company may not have been profitable so far, but that doesn’t mean it will remain unprofitable in the future as well. If its recent pace of margin expansion continues in the next several quarters, the company could become profitable in the next 2 to 3 years without sacrificing on its growth momentum. So, let’s give credit where it’s due. The community of professional analysts also shares this line of thought and projects Palantir's margin profile to materially improve going forward.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0b0017c547d56295730e8f7f4124935d\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"400\"><span>(Source:MarketScreener)</span></p>\n<p>Besides, with public shareholding involved now, its management is likely to be under constant pressure to deliver breakneck revenue growth rates, and/or achieve profitability in the near future, or risk being voted out of their positions. This pressure may not have been as intense prior to its direct listing, when fewer shareholders were involved. So, overall, I don’t think Palantir’s margin profile is hopeless as many believe it to be, and I expect the company to become profitable by 2024.</p>\n<p><b>Government Contract Wins</b></p>\n<p>Moving on, Palantir has been doing extremely well when it comes to securing government contracts. B2G contracts are generally tough to win – given the extensive qualification criteria, long turnaround times and heightened competition – but Palantir seems to have the figured out recipe for success on the government side of its business. For the uninitiated, its revenue from government contracts rose 76% year over year, accounted for about 61% of the company's overall revenue, in Q1.</p>\n<p>Unless the company botches up somewhere, these government agencies are likely going to internally recommend it for varied applications. They won’t have to qualify Palantir time and again for several criteria which could drive these internal cross-agency referrals in a speedy manner and these agencies might even ramp up their spending in pre-existing contracts. So, Palantir just needs to rinse-and-repeat its B2G (Business-to-Government) strategy, and its government revenue could continue growing rapidly.</p>\n<p>Palantir has also made steady progress with regards to its government business so far in Q2. Its Q2 is still ongoing, but at the time of this writing, the company has over $36 million worth of new current action obligations from government deals, agreements and contracts, most of which haven’t made the headlines. For the uninitiated, a new deal could be an addition to pre-existing deal, expand the scope of previously agreed upon deliverables, it could be entirely new in nature, have varied execution periods that span from months to years and/or also have a recurring revenue stream attached to it.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/091203d7b476076ff008ca0c3b0f6ad2\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"352\"><span>(Source: BusinessQuant.com)</span></p>\n<p>So, while there are several variables that prevent us from reliably estimating the near-term revenue impact from these deals, Palantir’s shareholders with a long-term time horizon should feel reassured that their company continues to make steady progress towards growing its government business.</p>\n<p><b>Final Thoughts</b></p>\n<p>Palantir’s shares are currently trading at about 43-times its trailing twelve-month sales which is, undeniably, high by conventional standards.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/40584e7d2ca5458e8609338887f80e2f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"361\"><span>(Source: BusinessQuant.com)</span></p>\n<p>However, its rich valuations alone shouldn't be the basis of a bear thesis. Palantir's valuation multiples may be high, but note from the chart above thatits revenue growth rate in Q1 was also higher than most of its peers.</p>\n<p>So, I believe the price premium is justified by the company’s rapid pace of revenue growth (illustrated in the chart above), its qualitative growth catalysts discussed in this article and its relatively secure government revenue stream.</p>\n<p>Keeping these factors in mind, investors with a multi-year time horizon may want to increase exposure to Palantir on potential price corrections. The stock is likely to reach new highs as its growth catalysts eventually materialize, and as the company approaches profitability, in the next 2 to 3 years. They won’t have to qualify Palantir time and again for several criteria which could drive these internal cross-agency referrals in a speedy manner and these agencies might even ramp up their spending in pre-existing contracts. So, Palantir just needs to rinse-and-repeat its B2G (Business-to-Government) strategy, and its government revenue could continue growing rapidly.\nPalantir has also made steady progress with regards to its government business so far in Q2. Its Q2 is still ongoing, but at the time of this writing, the company has over $36 million worth of new current action obligations from government deals, agreements and contracts, most of which haven’t made the headlines. And while we don't know what the future holds, it certainly seems as if several growth-first companies have become a bit riskier as investments than they were just a few months back.</p>\n<p>With this in mind, here's a rundown of three great all-weather dividend stocks that should be able to push through whatever economic headwind awaits on the horizon. In no particular order...</p>\n<h2>1. JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.</h2>\n<p><b>Dividend yield: 2.2%</b></p>\n<p><b>JPMorgan Chase</b>'s (NYSE:JPM) current yield of 2.2% is healthy, but it's hardly head-turning. Income-seeking investors could certainly find names with bigger payouts right now.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f7177164a17e3f0ea9b7f34f50305791\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>But there's an important detail that's not evident in the yield alone. That's the rate at which the company <i>raises</i> its dividend. Over the course of the past 10 years, JPMorgan's quarterly payout has improved from $0.25 to $0.90 per share, growing at an annualized clip of 13.7%. That's huge.</p>\n<p>Be aware that this diversified banking and finance name trimmed its dividend pretty significantly in the wake of the subprime mortgage meltdown, and could certainly do so again should the company find itself in similar circumstances. After all, about half of its revenue is ultimately linked to interest rates.</p>\n<p>Even with inflationary pressures rising, however, a recreation of those unusual underpinnings isn't very likely. Then, interest rates were peeling back from above-average highs, sapping loan margins in addition to piling on costs linked to soured loans. Now, conversely, rates are hovering near record lows and poised to rise in a way that actually makes lending more profitable. A recession curbs the demand for loans, but shouldn't outright kill that demand unless economic weakness turns downright cataclysmic. In the meantime, the other half of JPMorgan's business comes from things like asset management, credit cards, investment banking, and even consumer banking. These businesses are pretty resilient even if they don't exactly thrive in a lethargic environment.</p>\n<h2>2. Hewlett Packard Enterprise</h2>\n<p><b>Dividend yield: 3.1%</b></p>\n<p>Would it surprise you to know that technology company <b>Hewlett Packard Enterprise</b> (NYSE:HPE) is a dividend stock? Well, it is, and a good <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> too. Sure, you can find higher yields, but they're not easy to find within the tech sector.</p>\n<p>This company is, of course, the business and enterprise-facing half of the 2016 split of what used to just be known as Hewlett Packard, with the other consumer-facing half going its separate way. Then in 2017, Hewlett Packard Enterprise spun off its services business to merge it with Computer Sciences Corp., further narrowing its portfolio.</p>\n<p>They've been smart moves. A tighter focus on each organization's core customer has ultimately produced greater success than was being achieved as a bigger, broader outfit.</p>\n<p>That's not always been easy to see, granted. Revenue and earnings have been just as apt to fall as to rise since the company as we know it today first took shape. The thing is, even after adjusting for <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-off, non-operating expenses, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has never really struggled to make its quarterly dividend payment. The current annualized payout of $0.48 per share is only a fraction of the $1.88 (give or take a few cents) per share the company expects to report on a non-GAAP earnings basis for the current fiscal year.</p>\n<p>Hewlett Packard Enterprise may not be a major growth machine, but surprisingly enough, it's evolving into a picture of consistent progress as the cloud computing and edge computing markets mature.</p>\n<h2>3. The Coca-Cola Company</h2>\n<p><b>Dividend yield: 3%</b></p>\n<p>Finally, add<b> Coca-Cola</b> (NYSE:KO) to your shortlist of dividend stocks to consider adding to your portfolio.</p>\n<p>Like most other consumer-oriented companies, Coca-Cola's been crimped by the coronavirus pandemic. Its challenges were more logistical in their nature than linked to a lack of demand. The ultimate impact is the same though. Last year's top line tumbled 11%, clipping earnings by a similar degree.</p>\n<p>Yes, the beverage behemoth will work its way out of the pandemic-prompted slump. As fellow Fool writer Parkev Tatevosian points out, Coca-Cola is apt to gain lost market share as the world reopens for business since consumers are more likely to drink a Coke outside of their home than they are within it.</p>\n<p>That's not necessarily the top reason to step into this trade while the yield's at a respectable 3%, however. More compelling is the fact that the noise -- and impact -- of the pandemic obscured the upside of moves that Coca-Cola has been making since 2014, and in a big way since 2017. Simply put, Coke has been stepping back from the bottling business by selling bottling operations back to franchisees so it can focus more on licensing. This diminishes revenue, but in that franchising and licensing is a (much) higher-margin business, the end result is greater overall profits.</p>\n<p>This new and improved fiscal profile was just starting to come into view in 2020 when COVID-19 wrecked it. It may not be a bad idea given the current economic backdrop. While the global economy is coming out of a rough patch caused by the coronavirus contagion, inflation is popping up in a big way in certain areas. And while we don't know what the future holds, it certainly seems as if several growth-first companies have become a bit riskier as investments than they were just a few months back.\nWith this in mind, here's a rundown of three great all-weather dividend stocks that should be able to push through whatever economic headwind awaits on the horizon. In no particular order...\n1. JPMorgan Chase & Co.\nDividend yield: 2.2%\nJPMorgan Chase's (NYSE:JPM) current yield of 2.2% is healthy, but it's hardly head-turning. Income-seeking investors could certainly find names with bigger payouts right now.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBut there's an important detail that's not evident in the yield alone. That's the rate at which the company raises its dividend. Over the course of the past 10 years, JPMorgan's quarterly payout has improved from $0.25 to $0.90 per share, growing at an annualized clip of 13.7%. That's huge.\nBe aware that this diversified banking and finance name trimmed its dividend pretty significantly in the wake of the subprime mortgage meltdown, and could certainly do so again should the company find itself in similar circumstances. After all, about half of its revenue is ultimately linked to interest rates.\nEven with inflationary pressures rising, however, a recreation of those unusual underpinnings isn't very likely. Then, interest rates were peeling back from above-average highs, sapping loan margins in addition to piling on costs linked to soured loans. Now, conversely, rates are hovering near record lows and poised to rise in a way that actually makes lending more profitable. A recession curbs the demand for loans, but shouldn't outright kill that demand unless economic weakness turns downright cataclysmic. In the meantime, the other half of JPMorgan's business comes from things like asset management, credit cards, investment banking, and even consumer banking. These businesses are pretty resilient even if they don't exactly thrive in a lethargic environment.\n2. Hewlett Packard Enterprise\nDividend yield: 3.1%\nWould it surprise you to know that technology company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) is a dividend stock? Well, it is, and a good one too. Sure, you can find higher yields, but they're not easy to find within the tech sector.\nThis company is, of course, the business and enterprise-facing half of the 2016 split of what used to just be known as Hewlett Packard, with the other consumer-facing half going its separate way. Then in 2017, Hewlett Packard Enterprise spun off its services business to merge it with Computer Sciences Corp., further narrowing its portfolio.\nThey've been smart moves. A tighter focus on each organization's core customer has ultimately produced greater success than was being achieved as a bigger, broader outfit.\nThat's not always been easy to see, granted. Revenue and earnings have been just as apt to fall as to rise since the company as we know it today first took shape. The thing is, even after adjusting for one-off, non-operating expenses, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has never really struggled to make its quarterly dividend payment. The current annualized payout of $0.48 per share is only a fraction of the $1.88 (give or take a few cents) per share the company expects to report on a non-GAAP earnings basis for the current fiscal year.\nHewlett Packard Enterprise may not be a major growth machine, but surprisingly enough, it's evolving into a picture of consistent progress as the cloud computing and edge computing markets mature.\n3. The Coca-Cola Company\nDividend yield: 3%\nFinally, add Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) to your shortlist of dividend stocks to consider adding to your portfolio.\nLike most other consumer-oriented companies, Coca-Cola's been crimped by the coronavirus pandemic. Its challenges were more logistical in their nature than linked to a lack of demand. The ultimate impact is the same though. Last year's top line tumbled 11%, clipping earnings by a similar degree.\nYes, the beverage behemoth will work its way out of the pandemic-prompted slump. As fellow Fool writer Parkev Tatevosian points out, Coca-Cola is apt to gain lost market share as the world reopens for business since consumers are more likely to drink a Coke outside of their home than they are within it.\nThat's not necessarily the top reason to step into this trade while the yield's at a respectable 3%, however. More compelling is the fact that the noise -- and impact -- of the pandemic obscured the upside of moves that Coca-Cola has been making since 2014, and in a big way since 2017. Simply put, Coke has been stepping back from the bottling business by selling bottling operations back to franchisees so it can focus more on licensing. This diminishes revenue, but in that franchising and licensing is a (much) higher-margin business, the end result is greater overall profits.\nThis new and improved fiscal profile was just starting to come into view in 2020 when COVID-19 wrecked it.
