The price of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency is up more than 9% over the past week. And Ethereum is up more than 12% over the past week.</p>\n<p>Late last month, BIT Mining announced it entered into a definitive purchase agreement to buy 2,500 new bitcoin mining machines for a total consideration of approximately US$6.6 million. And when deployed, the company expects the Acquired Machines to increase its theoretical maximum total hash rate capacity by about 165 peta hashes per second (PH/s).</p>\n<p>The acquired machines are expected to be delivered within one week from today. Nothing changed overnight; even yields were flat, as was thedollar.</p>\n<p>There was no reason for the reflation sector to rally; the rally reflected broad-based index buying, which takes everything up with it. The VIX fell to 18, and with implied volatility falling, it provides the fuel needed for that index buying. If it can break that resistance zone, it could easily move back to the prior highs. There was no news to push it either. The index did close shy of the intraday high at 4430.\nToday will be the ADP job report and ISM Services index. The ADP report has not been a reliable indicator of late when it comes to predicting the BLS job report, but then again, nothing has been. I’m more curious to see if the ISM index indicates the same overall slowing trend the manufacturing PMI showed.\nS&P 500 Index 5-Min Chart\nVIX\nTuesday's rally seemed to have more to do with a Cboe Volatility Index moving lower than because of positive market sentiment. Nothing changed overnight; even yields were flat, as was thedollar.\nThere was no reason for the reflation sector to rally; the rally reflected broad-based index buying, which takes everything up with it. The VIX fell to 18, and with implied volatility falling, it provides the fuel needed for that index buying. There is a slight uptrend to the VIX, and it would not be surprising to see the VIX start pushing higher today.\nVIX Daily Chart \n10-Year Treasury\nThe10-year finished the day at 1.17%; it continues to look as if rates want to head to lower levels.\nUS Govt Bonds 1 Yr Yield Daily Chart\nFinancials\nThe Financial Select Sector SPDR® Fund (NYSE:XLF) was sitting on resistance at $37. If it can break that resistance zone, it could easily move back to the prior highs. Absent yields rising; I don’t see how the XLF breaks higher or why it would.\nXLF Daily Chart \nWells Fargo\nWells Fargo appeared to be the best positioned of the financials to rise, at least based on the chart. It is the most similar to the ETF. It, too, is at resistance around $47. A push above $47 probably opens a path for the stock to climb to $49ish.\nWells Fargo Daily Chart\nSnowflake\nSnowflake had a strong day, finally clearing the resistance level we had been watching for a few weeks at $285. If the market stays healthy, it probably does have a good shot at moving up to $325.\nSnowflake Inc Daily Chart\nUnitedHealth\nThe Healthcare sector had a strong day today, with UnitedHealth jumping back to its all-time highs. The $420 price range has been trouble for United for some time now. The pattern looks similar to the one that was seen in November and January. If it gets over $420, it could have some distance to climb.\nroup Inc. Daily Chart\nCisco\nCisco had a nice move up too. This is another stock breaking free of its recent range, and it appears to be shifting from bearish to bullish momentum. Netflix's share of TV time is even smaller at 7%.</p>\n<p>As the company notes in its earnings report, \"We are still very much in the early days of the transition from linear to on-demand consumption of entertainment.\" And if Netflix can hit its third-quarter subscriber guidance (3.5 million net additions), it will have added enough subscribers over the last 24 months to maintain its pre-pandemic growth rate.</p>\n<p>Some investors might still wonder about increasing competition and the impact it could have on Netflix's ability to add new subscribers, but management believes if it can offer more content, growth should continue like it has for two decades.</p>\n<p>And that brings us to gaming.</p>\n<h2>The reason for games</h2>\n<p>In that context, gaming doesn't appear to be any more of a response to competition or slowing growth than Netflix's move into original content in 2012. Shorting means borrowing a company's shares and selling them immediately, in the hope of buying them back at a lower price, returning them to the lender and pocketing the difference. If you simply buy a stock hoping it will go up, all you risk is the money you invest. You might get wiped out. But if you short a stock, your risk potential is unlimited. You never know how high the price might rise if you have gotten the trade wrong.</p>\n<p>\"Covering\" a short position is when you buy back the shares to return them to the investor who lent them to you. You are hoping to cover at a lower price than you sold the shares for, to make a profit.</p>\n<p>To have a short position, you need to have a margin account with a broker -- an account that lets you borrow to invest or trade. Because of the risk in taking a short position, if the share price goes against you (higher), your broker will keep increasing its collateral requirements. If you run out of cash as the price keeps rising, you will be forced to cover at a loss. That type of action among a large group of short-sellers pushes the price higher in a spiral -- a short squeeze.</p>\n<p><b>Six more meme stocks</b></p>\n<p>The action changes daily. On June 9, for example, shares of Clover Health Investments Corp. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CLOV\">$(CLOV)$</a> fell 24% after rising 86% the day before. (GOEV) is the second-most heavily shorted stock listed above, at 29.5%. The electric-vehicle maker was formed on Dec. 21 through the merger of Canoo Holdings Ltd. and Hennessy Capital Acquisition Corp. IV, a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. Canoo expects to produce its first vehicle in mid-2022 in limited quantities, with \"serial production launching in 2023,\" according to its 10-K report filed on March 31.\nClean Energy Fuels Corp. $(CLNE.AU)$ provides natural gas for use as an alternative to gasoline or diesel for fleets of vehicles. The stock is 6.58% sold-short, but has had a good run this year as the energy sector has recovered.\nFundamentals\nWe'll look back at sales results for this group of six meme stocks and then look ahead at sales estimates through 2023.\n\nLooking back\n\nFirst, here's a comparison of annual sales, in millions of dollars for the past five reported fiscal years (where available):\n\nYou can see clear growth paths in recent years for Palantir, Wendy's and ContextLogic, while Clean Energy Fuels had understandable challenges from lower natural gas prices in 2020.\nClover was incorporated on Oct. 18, 2019. In comparison, the S&P 500 trades for 2.5 times its weighted aggregate consensus sales estimate for 2023.\nLooking ahead -- earnings\nHere are earnings-per-share estimates going out to 2023:\n\nYou might not have expected the EPS projections to be particularly useful, but they underscore how high these stocks are trading. The S&P 500 trades for 18.4 times its consensus EPS estimate for 2023.\nThe estimates show expected improvement for Palantir, if it manages to maintain its rapid sales growth. Wendy's is expected to improve EPS significantly even with modest sale growth, in part because of stock buybacks .\nWall Street's opinion\nHere's a summary of opinion for this group of meme stocks among Wall Street analysts:\n\nSo the Wall Street analysts have the most love for ContextLogic, with 82% \"buy\" or equivalent ratings. Second place goes to Clean Energy Fuels.
