For years, investors cheered this differentiated social media platform that catered to a more mature, purse-powerful audience. Pinterest was highly valued for a product that was conducive toward advertising for products, and for years the company enjoyed fierce revenue growth. The pandemic and the surge in internet activity and usage only helped to fuel the growth story for Pinterest.
\n
But now, after a years-long and fierce rally in Pinterest shares, the bullish story for this name is getting tired. Since the company's most recent earnings release in late July, shares of Pinterest have plunged to YTD lows, a reflection of shocking user defection.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
The question for investors now: is Pinterest reaching a buy point? In my view, the answer is no:while it's true that Pinterest's post-correction valuation has reached more interesting levels, I see plenty of fundamental risks from the company's user deceleration ahead. Watch and wait on the sidelines here.
\n
Valuation update
\n
First things first: we will acknowledge that Pinterest, now technically in a bear market after falling 40% from peaks, is not as egregiously expensive as it used to be (one of my chief arguments against the stock earlier; I had sounded off a bearish note on the stock in the mid-$70s).
\n
At current share prices near $55, Pinterest trades at a market cap of $35.31 billion. After we net off the $2.14 billion of cash on Pinterest's most recent balance sheet, the company's resulting enterprise value is $33.16 billion.
\n
For next year (FY22), meanwhile, Wall Street analysts are expecting Pinterest to generate revenue of $3.43 billion, representing 31% y/y growth (still high enough to be considered a growth stock, but not as compelling as a story as during the pandemic, when soaring engagement and a recovery in ad rates consistently had Pinterest hovering around a ~70% revenue growth rate).
\n
Against this revenue expectation, Pinterest trades at 9.7x EV/FY22 revenue. This is notable since this is a rare moment that the stock is trading below a double-digit valuation multiple. Still, considering the serious risks of user deceleration ahead, I'm not interested in touching this stock until it falls closer to an 8x FY22 revenue multiple (implying a~$46 price target).
\n
Triggering an alarm in U.S. user trends
\n
What's the cause of the recent pessimism in Pinterest? It's one thing, and it's a very clear trend:Pinterest's U.S. users are disappearing,a risk I have consistently called out for this stock that didn't materialize in full until Pinterest's most recent quarter (Q2).
\n
Take a look at the chart below:
\n
Figure 1. Pinterest Q2 MAU trends
\n
Source: Pinterest Q2 investor presentation
\n
Pinterest's U.S. users dropped off at a -5% y/y pace to just 91 million. Even scarier still is the fact that sequentially, the company lost 7 million MAUs relative to 98 million U.S. users in Q1.
\n
Why are U.S. users so important? After all, they represent less than a quarter of total users. The answer lies in ARPU: a U.S. social media user generates far greater ad dollars than a customer in any other part of the world. What you can see in the chart below is that a U.S. user's $5.08 ARPU dwarfs, by 14x, their international counterparts:
\n
Figure 2. Pinterest ARPU by geo
\n
Source: Pinterest Q2 investor presentation
\n
The United States also generated $480 million, or 78% of Pinterest's $613 million revenue in Q2. It's safe to say this is a customer segment Pinterest cannot afford to lose.
\n
The international story is not much better. Apart from the fact that international ARPU is still playing a long catch-up game to the U.S., Pinterest also shed 17 million international users sequentially.
\n
This trend is illustrative of two things:
\n
\n
As feared, the pre-pandemic era is leading to a decline in internet and social media usage. These users contributed a significant majority of both total impressions and total revenue in Q2. Additionally, the investments we've been making to more efficiently realize value from the unique existing engagement we have is working well. For years, investors cheered this differentiated social media platform that catered to a more mature, purse-powerful audience. Pinterest was highly valued for a product that was conducive toward advertising for products, and for years the company enjoyed fierce revenue growth. The pandemic and the surge in internet activity and usage only helped to fuel the growth story for Pinterest.\nBut now, after a years-long and fierce rally in Pinterest shares, the bullish story for this name is getting tired. Since the company's most recent earnings release in late July, shares of Pinterest have plunged to YTD lows, a reflection of shocking user defection.\nData by YCharts\nThe question for investors now: is Pinterest reaching a buy point? In my view, the answer is no:while it's true that Pinterest's post-correction valuation has reached more interesting levels, I see plenty of fundamental risks from the company's user deceleration ahead. Watch and wait on the sidelines here.\nValuation update\nFirst things first: we will acknowledge that Pinterest, now technically in a bear market after falling 40% from peaks, is not as egregiously expensive as it used to be (one of my chief arguments against the stock earlier; I had sounded off a bearish note on the stock in the mid-$70s).\nAt current share prices near $55, Pinterest trades at a market cap of $35.31 billion. After we net off the $2.14 billion of cash on Pinterest's most recent balance sheet, the company's resulting enterprise value is $33.16 billion.\nFor next year (FY22), meanwhile, Wall Street analysts are expecting Pinterest to generate revenue of $3.43 billion, representing 31% y/y growth (still high enough to be considered a growth stock, but not as compelling as a story as during the pandemic, when soaring engagement and a recovery in ad rates consistently had Pinterest hovering around a ~70% revenue growth rate).\nAgainst this revenue expectation, Pinterest trades at 9.7x EV/FY22 revenue. This is notable since this is a rare moment that the stock is trading below a double-digit valuation multiple. Still, considering the serious risks of user deceleration ahead, I'm not interested in touching this stock until it falls closer to an 8x FY22 revenue multiple (implying a~$46 price target).\nTriggering an alarm in U.S. user trends\nWhat's the cause of the recent pessimism in Pinterest? It's one thing, and it's a very clear trend:Pinterest's U.S. users are disappearing,a risk I have consistently called out for this stock that didn't materialize in full until Pinterest's most recent quarter (Q2).\nTake a look at the chart below:\nFigure 1. Pinterest Q2 MAU trends\nSource: Pinterest Q2 investor presentation\nPinterest's U.S. users dropped off at a -5% y/y pace to just 91 million. Even scarier still is the fact that sequentially, the company lost 7 million MAUs relative to 98 million U.S. users in Q1.\nWhy are U.S. users so important? After all, they represent less than a quarter of total users. The answer lies in ARPU: a U.S. social media user generates far greater ad dollars than a customer in any other part of the world. What you can see in the chart below is that a U.S. user's $5.08 ARPU dwarfs, by 14x, their international counterparts:\nFigure 2. Pinterest ARPU by geo\nSource: Pinterest Q2 investor presentation\nThe United States also generated $480 million, or 78% of Pinterest's $613 million revenue in Q2. It's safe to say this is a customer segment Pinterest cannot afford to lose.\nThe international story is not much better. Apart from the fact that international ARPU is still playing a long catch-up game to the U.S., Pinterest also shed 17 million international users sequentially.\nThis trend is illustrative of two things:\n\nAs feared, the pre-pandemic era is leading to a decline in internet and social media usage. Faithful daily checkers of various social media accounts are dropping their usage or slimming their portfolio of applications, hurting \"fringe\" platforms like Pinterest\nThe social media landscape has become huge and competitive, and newer platforms like TikTok are dominating legacy brands.\n\nSocial media companies can become \"viral\" overnight, but once they start losing users, the vicious cycle is difficult to overcome. Only one social media company has been able to withstand severely slowed user growth, and that's Twitter(NYSE:TWTR)- and it did so largely due to the endorsement of leading figures like former President Donald Trump, and by pivoting to becoming more of a news platform. It's unclear what Pinterest's ability to pivot may be.\nHere's how Pinterest CFO Todd Morgenfeld described the user loss situation on the Q2 earnings call:\n\n \"But in summary, we believe that nearly all of what we're seeing now is the unwinding of some of the engagement benefits that we got during an unprecedented period of time when people were stuck at home and had more time to spend on some of our core use cases.\n\n\n We also continue to monitor other factors, including competition and the impact of Google's recent search algorithm changes while continuing to improve our product and ramp up our marketing efforts to increase engagement over time. Specifically, the engagement we have on shopping services appears to be more resilient than overall engagement. If Pinterest's overall MAU growth has slowed to the single digits (and negative in the U.S.), the ~30% revenue growth that Wall Street is banking on in FY22 may not be achievable after all, and that's the reason for the current discount in Pinterest stock relative to historical multiples.\nHere's a sliver of good news\nThe one positive highlight (only one) from Pinterest's Q2 report was the fact that the company's profitability and adjusted EBITDA continues to hold up. Pinterest adjusted EBITDA\nSource: Pinterest Q2 investor presentation\nAgain, however, margin expansion may be capped if Pinterest can't figure out how to revive its user growth, particularly in the U.S.\nKey takeaways\nPinterest's sharp decline in users in Q2 is a reminder of the fact that social media companies are built not on long-term customer contracts and recurring revenue, but users who are very fickle and have little loyalty to one platform (the only example of a social media company that has been able to hang on to its users for more than a decade is Facebook(NASDAQ:FB)).\nDon't buy the dip here just yet - the Pinterest balloon, in my view, still has plenty of air to be let out.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":42,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":852625550,"gmtCreate":1635263619401,"gmtModify":1635263621709,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"The issue is so nuanced. Is it realistic to turn 100% of the market by 2030? It would be a stretch,\" Daimler's CEO Ola Kaellenius told Reuters in an interview, adding he hoped to see countries and economic regions do their bit at the COP26 summit by synchronising their plans for electric vehicle rollouts.
\n
Charging infrastructure is just one of many challenges standing between the auto industry, estimated by the International Energy Agency to be responsible for around 18% of all carbon emissions worldwide, and climate neutrality.
\n
Others include getting rid of dirty fossil-fuel powered cars still on the roads, reducing emissions in battery production, and building storage systems for renewable energy to ensure the electricity used to charge electric cars is from renewable sources.
\n
TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE?
\n
Under carbon reduction policies already agreed by governments and automakers, global CO2 emissions from vehicles are still set to rise over time, research by the International Council on Clean Transportation shows.
\n
If policies under discussion are implemented, the growth trajectory stabilises but still does not fall, it said, highlighting growing demand for cars, buses and trucks in coming years due to population growth and increased economic activity in emerging markets.
\n
While one in five vehicles sold in Europe last quarter were electrified, the share is much lower in the United States at around 2%. EVs are an even tinier slice of sales in less rich markets such as Latin America or Southeast Asia.
\n
Automakers and governments must also find answers for labour unions who are worried that a rapid shift to EVs will put thousands of workers out of their jobs.
\n
This includes German unions demanding clarity from Stellantis on its plans for Opel plants, and U.S. President Joe Biden facing pressure from the U.S. United Auto Workers' union to provide more state support during the EV transition.
\n
\"There are a lot of factors involved ... we try to project a realistic picture,\" a spokesperson for Germany's BMW said. \"But if certain conditions change fundamentally, we will of course have to re-examine our climate goals.\"
\n
CARBON EMITTER
\n
The majority of a vehicle's emissions do not come from the manufacturing process, but from the fuel used to power it - be it electricity, petrol, or diesel.
\n
In the case of electric vehicles, the process of making batteries is also a significant carbon emitter, with a Volkswagen ID.3 for example generating nearly twice the emissions of a diesel equivalent in the production phase, according to company calculations.
\n
While carmakers are increasingly investing in producing batteries in a more environmentally friendly way, controlling the source of energy flowing into electric cars is much harder.
\n
Automakers like VW and Tesla are growing their offering of residential storage systems for clients to power vehicles through mechanisms like solar panels on their roofs – but the question of who is responsible for sourcing and distributing energy in public spaces is more contentious.
\n
Even if automakers invest in public charging stations, ongoing problems with storage of renewable energy could force energy providers to rely on coal and natural gas to meet short-term demand, as recent volatility in energy markets has shown.
\n
Lobby groups such as the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association and the U.S.-based Alliance for Automotive Innovation have urged states to invest in renewable-based charging infrastructure, from public-private investments to fully state-funded projects.
\n
But some environmental groups argue that relying on taxpayer funds is unfair as the networks would disproportionately benefit car companies and owners, as opposed to spending on public transport.
\n
Another lingering problem is the diesel and gas cars still driving on roads beyond 2030, which will bump up the industry's emissions well beyond the limit necessary to stay within the Paris Agreements' bounds, researchers have said.
\n
Even if half of all new cars sold in 2035 were zero emission – which climate goals set by BMW, General Motors and Nissan would account for – some 70% of vehicles on roads would still be burning fossil fuels, Boston Consulting has said.
\n
\"Even economies in the vanguard of the climate-change fight are therefore likely to fall short of decarbonisation targets.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Doomed to fail? It would be a stretch,\" Daimler's CEO Ola Kaellenius told Reuters in an interview, adding he hoped to see countries and economic regions do their bit at the COP26 summit by synchronising their plans for electric vehicle rollouts.\nCharging infrastructure is just one of many challenges standing between the auto industry, estimated by the International Energy Agency to be responsible for around 18% of all carbon emissions worldwide, and climate neutrality.\nOthers include getting rid of dirty fossil-fuel powered cars still on the roads, reducing emissions in battery production, and building storage systems for renewable energy to ensure the electricity used to charge electric cars is from renewable sources.\nTOO LITTLE, TOO LATE?\nUnder carbon reduction policies already agreed by governments and automakers, global CO2 emissions from vehicles are still set to rise over time, research by the International Council on Clean Transportation shows.\nIf policies under discussion are implemented, the growth trajectory stabilises but still does not fall, it said, highlighting growing demand for cars, buses and trucks in coming years due to population growth and increased economic activity in emerging markets.\nWhile one in five vehicles sold in Europe last quarter were electrified, the share is much lower in the United States at around 2%. EVs are an even tinier slice of sales in less rich markets such as Latin America or Southeast Asia.\nAutomakers and governments must also find answers for labour unions who are worried that a rapid shift to EVs will put thousands of workers out of their jobs.\nThis includes German unions demanding clarity from Stellantis on its plans for Opel plants, and U.S. President Joe Biden facing pressure from the U.S. United Auto Workers' union to provide more state support during the EV transition.\n\"There are a lot of factors involved ... we try to project a realistic picture,\" a spokesperson for Germany's BMW said. \"But if certain conditions change fundamentally, we will of course have to re-examine our climate goals.\"\nCARBON EMITTER\nThe majority of a vehicle's emissions do not come from the manufacturing process, but from the fuel used to power it - be it electricity, petrol, or diesel.\nIn the case of electric vehicles, the process of making batteries is also a significant carbon emitter, with a Volkswagen ID.3 for example generating nearly twice the emissions of a diesel equivalent in the production phase, according to company calculations.\nWhile carmakers are increasingly investing in producing batteries in a more environmentally friendly way, controlling the source of energy flowing into electric cars is much harder.\nAutomakers like VW and Tesla are growing their offering of residential storage systems for clients to power vehicles through mechanisms like solar panels on their roofs – but the question of who is responsible for sourcing and distributing energy in public spaces is more contentious.\nEven if automakers invest in public charging stations, ongoing problems with storage of renewable energy could force energy providers to rely on coal and natural gas to meet short-term demand, as recent volatility in energy markets has shown.\nLobby groups such as the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association and the U.S.-based Alliance for Automotive Innovation have urged states to invest in renewable-based charging infrastructure, from public-private investments to fully state-funded projects.\nBut some environmental groups argue that relying on taxpayer funds is unfair as the networks would disproportionately benefit car companies and owners, as opposed to spending on public transport.\nAnother lingering problem is the diesel and gas cars still driving on roads beyond 2030, which will bump up the industry's emissions well beyond the limit necessary to stay within the Paris Agreements' bounds, researchers have said.\nEven if half of all new cars sold in 2035 were zero emission – which climate goals set by BMW, General Motors and Nissan would account for – some 70% of vehicles on roads would still be burning fossil fuels, Boston Consulting has said.\n\"Even economies in the vanguard of the climate-change fight are therefore likely to fall short of decarbonisation targets.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":75,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":853551288,"gmtCreate":1634825956505,"gmtModify":1634826119379,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$#smallwins","listText":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$#smallwins","text":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$#smallwins","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/448f6b09675e8cd2a9c9480d741d1e66","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/853551288","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":155,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":859901089,"gmtCreate":1634646872391,"gmtModify":1634647003543,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"How is USD 39 expensive? He has a 12-month price target on the stock of $300, implying more than 60% downside from the stock's price of about $820 at the time of this writing.
\n
While the analyst's price target suggests investors should stay far away from the electric-car maker's stock, there's an interesting bullish silver lining in his bearish take if you look closely.
\n
Model Y. Image source: Tesla.
\n
The most valuable automobile company in the world?
\n
Barclays' note about Tesla stock this week actually gives investors in the automaker several reasons to be incrementally upbeat about the company. First, his $300 price target is a huge jump from where it was previously -- $230. In other words, the company's recent execution has Barclays analyst Brian Johnson now thinking the stock is 30% more valuable than his estimates called for the last time he updated his rating on the stock.
\n
Second, he had some optimistic views to share in his note on Thursday, saying that the company's better-than-expected third-quarter deliveries may have helped drive robust operating leverage during the period. He also notes the company's impressive ability to navigate chip shortages, growing deliveries significantly while many other automakers were negatively impacted by the situation.
\n
So why is he so pessimistic about the stock? He remains skeptical on Tesla's \"sky-high market cap.\"
\n
Finally, as Barron's author Al Root pointed out on Thursday, now even one of Tesla's biggest bears thinks the company is the most valuable automotive company in the world. Johnson's price target implies approximately a $300 billion valuation -- higher than Toyota Motor's market capitalization of about $285 billion.
\n
Should Tesla investors sell?
\n
Still, is Johnson onto something regarding Tesla's sky-high valuation?
\n
Investors should think twice before they sell Tesla stock, despite its high valuation. Since shares aren't liquid, investors often overthink whether they should take a profit.
\n
Consider a different perspective: If this were a privately held company in which you were the sole owner, would you want to begin looking to find a buyer so you can dispose of the asset, even as trailing-12-month deliveries are up 87% year over year and both net income and free cash flow are soaring?
\n
Sure, Tesla's trailing-12-month free cash flow of $2.6 billion is extremely small, relative to the company's approximately $820 billion market cap. He has a 12-month price target on the stock of $300, implying more than 60% downside from the stock's price of about $820 at the time of this writing.\nWhile the analyst's price target suggests investors should stay far away from the electric-car maker's stock, there's an interesting bullish silver lining in his bearish take if you look closely.\nModel Y. Image source: Tesla.\nThe most valuable automobile company in the world?\nBarclays' note about Tesla stock this week actually gives investors in the automaker several reasons to be incrementally upbeat about the company. First, his $300 price target is a huge jump from where it was previously -- $230. In other words, the company's recent execution has Barclays analyst Brian Johnson now thinking the stock is 30% more valuable than his estimates called for the last time he updated his rating on the stock.\nSecond, he had some optimistic views to share in his note on Thursday, saying that the company's better-than-expected third-quarter deliveries may have helped drive robust operating leverage during the period. He also notes the company's impressive ability to navigate chip shortages, growing deliveries significantly while many other automakers were negatively impacted by the situation.\nSo why is he so pessimistic about the stock? He remains skeptical on Tesla's \"sky-high market cap.\"\nFinally, as Barron's author Al Root pointed out on Thursday, now even one of Tesla's biggest bears thinks the company is the most valuable automotive company in the world. Johnson's price target implies approximately a $300 billion valuation -- higher than Toyota Motor's market capitalization of about $285 billion.\nShould Tesla investors sell?\nStill, is Johnson onto something regarding Tesla's sky-high valuation?\nInvestors should think twice before they sell Tesla stock, despite its high valuation. Since shares aren't liquid, investors often overthink whether they should take a profit.\nConsider a different perspective: If this were a privately held company in which you were the sole owner, would you want to begin looking to find a buyer so you can dispose of the asset, even as trailing-12-month deliveries are up 87% year over year and both net income and free cash flow are soaring?\nSure, Tesla's trailing-12-month free cash flow of $2.6 billion is extremely small, relative to the company's approximately $820 billion market cap. But if deliveries continue to grow about 50% annually for the foreseeable future, as management expects they will, and if the company's operating margin expands meaningfully as Tesla scales, this could be just the tip of the iceberg for the company's free cash flow and profits.\nWhile there are no guarantees for any stock, investors may want to avoid giving Johnson's price target too much weight. Instead, they may want to consider taking time to mull over the surprising upward trajectory of his views for the company recently. If anything, the analyst's upgraded view may offer an incremental reason to keep holding shares instead of selling them.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":114,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":822275782,"gmtCreate":1634138160296,"gmtModify":1634138160367,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$finally got into the market *fingers crossed*","listText":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$finally got into the market *fingers crossed*","text":"$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$finally got into the market *fingers crossed*","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f0fabc29ca0a3501f15b059a48386a81","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/822275782","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":187,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":882551132,"gmtCreate":1631710430626,"gmtModify":1631890825084,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/882551132","repostId":"1112301233","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1112301233","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1631707868,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1112301233?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-15 20:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Toplines Before US Market Open on Wednesday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1112301233","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stock index futures edged higher on Wednesday on easing fears of an earlier-than-expected cut t","content":"
U.S. stock index futures edged higher on Wednesday on easing fears of an earlier-than-expected cut to monetary stimulus, even though a slowing economic recovery and uncertainty over higher corporate taxes weighed on sentiment.
\n
U.S. S&P 500 E-minis were up 4.25 points, or 0.1% at 08:00 am ET. While not all stocks in this sector perform the same in turbulent markets, many do provide products and services that customers need regardless of the economy -- and this can lend resilience to a long-term investor's portfolio.
\n
To that end, today, we're going to take a look at two high-growth companies in the healthcare space. One is a leader in medical robotics while the other helps healthcare companies run their businesses more efficiently. Let's get started.
\n

\n
\n
1. Intuitive Surgical
\n
Medical robotics pioneer Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) was founded in 1995 and has been a publicly traded entity for more than two decades. Since the IPO, its shares have skyrocketed more than 16,000%. In the past year alone, the stock is up more than 40%. With its shares now trading just shy of $1,000, it's no surprise that the company is planning to undergo a stock split in early October.
\n
The stock has soared for good reason. Intuitive dominates the global surgical robotics market (more than three-quarters of it, in fact), most notably with its da Vinci Surgical System. Its approach has become more and more widely accepted -- and so Intuitive's revenue over the past decade has grown nearly 150% while net income has risen about 114%.
\n
And the company is just getting started. The global surgical robotics industry is expected to grow exponentially in the years ahead as an increasing number of medical providers utilize these tools in minimally invasive procedures due to their efficiency, accuracy, and ability to generate more positive post-surgery outcomes, such as shorter inpatient care.
\n
An investment in Intuitive Surgical could generate sustained returns for many years as it expands its footprint in this multi-billion-dollar industry and as reliance on surgical robotics continues to grow.
\n
2. Veeva Systems
\n
Cloud solutions provider Veeva Systems (NYSE:VEEV) may not be a name that immediately comes to mind when thinking about the healthcare sector, but it's a compelling choice for long-term investors to consider. The company helps healthcare companies -- ranging from household-name pharmaceutical giants to smaller life sciences entities -- effectively store their information.
\n
Veeva clients seem to appreciate what they do. The company has a long and respectable history of growth, having increased revenue more than 160% and net income nearly 390% over the past five years.
\n
And the company remains on track. For the first half of its fiscal 2022 (ended Jul. 31), Veeva reported a revenue increase of about 29% from the year-ago period. This was driven by a 28% boost in its subscription services as well as a 33% increase in its professional and other services. Net income increased about 25% during the same time period.
\n
Veeva's stock isn't cheap, trading at around $285 a share and a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 26. But it's also safe to say that these kinds of valuations are something investors have come to expect from stocks in the high-growth SaaS space. While not all stocks in this sector perform the same in turbulent markets, many do provide products and services that customers need regardless of the economy -- and this can lend resilience to a long-term investor's portfolio.\nTo that end, today, we're going to take a look at two high-growth companies in the healthcare space. One is a leader in medical robotics while the other helps healthcare companies run their businesses more efficiently. Let's get started.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Intuitive Surgical\nMedical robotics pioneer Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) was founded in 1995 and has been a publicly traded entity for more than two decades. Since the IPO, its shares have skyrocketed more than 16,000%. In the past year alone, the stock is up more than 40%. With its shares now trading just shy of $1,000, it's no surprise that the company is planning to undergo a stock split in early October.\nThe stock has soared for good reason. Intuitive dominates the global surgical robotics market (more than three-quarters of it, in fact), most notably with its da Vinci Surgical System. Its approach has become more and more widely accepted -- and so Intuitive's revenue over the past decade has grown nearly 150% while net income has risen about 114%.\nAnd the company is just getting started. The global surgical robotics industry is expected to grow exponentially in the years ahead as an increasing number of medical providers utilize these tools in minimally invasive procedures due to their efficiency, accuracy, and ability to generate more positive post-surgery outcomes, such as shorter inpatient care.\nAn investment in Intuitive Surgical could generate sustained returns for many years as it expands its footprint in this multi-billion-dollar industry and as reliance on surgical robotics continues to grow.\n2. Veeva Systems\nCloud solutions provider Veeva Systems (NYSE:VEEV) may not be a name that immediately comes to mind when thinking about the healthcare sector, but it's a compelling choice for long-term investors to consider. The company helps healthcare companies -- ranging from household-name pharmaceutical giants to smaller life sciences entities -- effectively store their information.\nVeeva clients seem to appreciate what they do. The company has a long and respectable history of growth, having increased revenue more than 160% and net income nearly 390% over the past five years.\nAnd the company remains on track. For the first half of its fiscal 2022 (ended Jul. 31), Veeva reported a revenue increase of about 29% from the year-ago period. This was driven by a 28% boost in its subscription services as well as a 33% increase in its professional and other services. Net income increased about 25% during the same time period.\nVeeva's stock isn't cheap, trading at around $285 a share and a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 26. But it's also safe to say that these kinds of valuations are something investors have come to expect from stocks in the high-growth SaaS space. Shares of the company have consistently appreciated over the years -- and even at its current premium valuation, Wall Street thinks the stock has upside of as much as 40% over the next 12 months.\nFinally, demand for Veeva's products and services isn't likely going anywhere, and its list of customers -- including such big names as Merck, Eli Lilly, and Bayer -- is only growing. Veeva Systems is a stock for the long haul. And if you're not thrilled about its current price, there's no harm in dipping your toe by investing in fractional shares of this stock for now.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":73,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":870032603,"gmtCreate":1636557494790,"gmtModify":1636557652169,"author":{"id":"4094120438063010","authorId":"4094120438063010","name":"Investoro","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a97d6c6ec600046a0c37bf13019d3f98","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4094120438063010","idStr":"4094120438063010"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Rivian Automotive, Inc.(RIVN)$overpriced!
