no intrinsic scale value.
\n
Palantir’s revenue growth, estimated at 40% this year, is still grossly overvalued.
\n
\n

\n

\n
Palantir (NYSE:PLTR), a software company, has seen its share price fall significantly recently as investors exited high-growth, high-multiple stocks. At 24 times sales, I believe PLTR stock is still significantly overvalued, and investors should brace themselves for new lows.
\n

\n
A Government Consulting Business With Three Major Issues
\n
Someone needs to explain to me what all the fuss is about with the big data analytics company Palantir. Palantir is frequently lauded for its software capabilities, which provide customers with data intelligence insights that, ostensibly, improve managerial decision making, but I do not see Palantir as what everyone else does: a unique platform business cashing in on the big data market.
\n

\n
Palantir is best known for its various \"foundries.\" Palantir's foundries are data management and aggregation systems that assist institutions in efficiently centralizing and storing data. As businesses and government agencies collect more data, the complexities grow rapidly, necessitating the use of software solutions. Palantir is collaborating with businesses and governments to reduce complexity and make use of large data volumes for algorithmic predictions. Palantir has had some success with this type of business, if success is defined solely by sales growth. For example, Palantir's 3Q21 revenue increased by 36% YoY to $392 million. Palantir's main source of revenue, government revenues, increased by 34% YoY, while commercial revenues, which include all of Palantir's business activities outside of government, increased by 37% YoY.
\n

\n
Revenue growth, on the other hand, is not a concern for Palantir. Palantir's problems are much deeper, and there is clearly more than one issue here.
\n

\n
The first issue with Palantir is that, while the company's sales are increasing at a healthy clip, this is not translating into profits for shareholders. Palantir's revenue increased by 44% to $1.11 billion in the first three quarters of 2021. The sales forecast for 2021 calls for up to a 40% increase in sales. That's a good start, but what about profits?
\n

\n
Despite a 44% increase in revenue in 2021, Palantir's profit picture appears to be dire. The company lost $364 million in 2021 alone, and the year isn't even over yet. The total loss for the year could exceed $400 million. Not bad for a company that has been in operation for nearly 20 years and \"grows revenues at a 40% annual rate,\" right? Profits after nearly two decades of operation appear to be too high a bar for Palantir to clear.
\n

\n
The second major issue for Palantir, despite its big data allure, is its lack of scalability. Contrary to popular belief, Palantir is little more than a well-paid government consultant whose consulting business is not scalable in any way, shape, or form. Palantir also does not operate a \"platform business\" in the same way that Metaverse (NASDAQ:FB) or Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) do. For example, Metaverse collects customer data through a single platform, the Facebook platform. Netflix scales its moving streaming platform, which can add new customers at near-zero marginal costs. Palantir requires personnel to work with each individual client, coach them, and explain platform features. This is not a sustainable business model. It is a software-based consulting business model.
\n

\n
The third issue with Palantir, aside from its inability to operate profitably after two decades and its business model's lack of inherent scalability, is that profits made in Palantir's business are siphoned off by insiders who are compensated royally through stock packages at the expense of shareholders. Palantir has increased the number of shares by 12% in one year, and it now has more than 2 billion shares outstanding. As a result, business profits are primarily distributed to highly compensated insiders, rather than to the company's shareholders.
\n

\n
A Fantasy Valuation
\n
Let's be clear about what we're talking about. We are dealing with a company that is growing its sales by 30-40% per year, which means Palantir will have revenues in the $1.5 billion range by 2021. Give or take fifty million dollars. It is the same company that has a misunderstood \"platform business model,\" no profits after twenty years of operations, and prioritizes insider stock compensation over shareholder dilution in recent years. They are likely to see further dilution in the coming years.
\n

\n
Nonetheless, this company continues to trade at a sales multiple of twenty-four. This means that an investor pays 24 times the expected sales amount for the opportunity to invest in Palantir's loss-making \"big data prediction\" business. Palantir remains outrageously overvalued, despite a significant correction since November.
\n

\n

\n
My Conclusion
\n
I'd say the valuation is a joke or a calculation error if I didn't know any better. However, this does not appear to be the case. Apparently, a sizable portion of the investor population believes that Palantir, despite its lack of profits and excessive dilution, is worth 24 times sales. In normal circumstances, 24 times earnings would be excessive. Palantir's business has no scale, which calls into question the company's positioning as a growth stock. Palantir is expected to fall further as investors begin to exit high-multiple stocks. Investors have steered clear of China's growth stocks in the wake of the government's crackdown on several industries, but the real bargain for Singles' Day could be shares of Alibaba itself. Are you waiting for the market to take a big hit before putting your money on the sidelines to work? Well, a lot of last year's biggest stars have already crashed.\nShares ofAlibaba Group Holding(NYSE:BABA),Zoom Video, and Pinterest have all plummeted at least 40% since hitting all-time highs. But analysts disagree — calling the sixth most valuable stock in the S&P 500 among the very most overvalued.
\n
Tesla is the third most overvalued stock in the S&P 500, analysts say, just after materials company Amcor(AMC) and industrial firm Robert Half(RHI), according to an Investor's Business Daily analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence andMarketSmith. The stock, which closed at 793.61 on Thursday, is rated a \"hold\" by analysts, on average.
\n
To be precise, analysts think Tesla stock is more than 13% overvalued and should only be a 688.99-a-share stock in 12 months. That's a shock for investors who pushed shares up nearly 13% just this year — and nearly 1,500% in the past three years. In comparison, the S&P 500 is up17% this year, but only 52% in the past three.
\n
And the Tesla stock debate will heat up on Friday, the first day of trading following the company's shareholder meeting.
\n
Tesla Stock Hate Unusual In The S&P 500
\n
Calling an S&P 500 stock more than 10% overvalued is highly unusual.Analysts just don't do that often. The numbers show you just how rare it is.
\n
Analysts only think 40 S&P 500 stocks, or less than 10% of the index, are overvalued. And of those, it's almost unheard of to say they're 10% too expensive. In fact, analysts think the 40 overvalued companies, on average, are only 4% overvalued. And they think that half of the overvalued S&P 500 stocks are just 3% too pricey.
\n
And that's where analysts' skepticism of Tesla is so unusual. The pessimistic 688.99 12-month price target on Tesla is the product of more than 30 analysts, says S&P Global Market Intelligence. And it's actually down roughly 3% from their price target of 709.44 in late April.
\n
But part of the story is the massive spread between the believers and nonbelievers. The median 12-month price target, 755.00, on Tesla stock is higher than the average. The highest price target calls for shares to trade at 1,200, while the lowest is at 150. But even the more charitable median Tesla price target implies the stock is more than 6% overvalued. That's much higher than average within the S&P 500.
\n
And the stakes are huge. Tesla commands a market value of nearly $800 billion. Just this one consumer discretionary company accounts for nearly 2% of the S&P 500.Should you buy Tesla stock now?
\n
Some S&P 500 Analysts Break Rank
\n
Not all Tesla analysts are so bearish. Some are offering support.
\n
Just this week, CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson boosted his price target on Tesla by more than 11% to 750 a share. But that's still 5% lower than Thursday's close. Nelson also upped his adjusted earnings-per-share estimate for fiscal 2021 by more than 7% to $5.30. S&P 500 analysts at large think Tesla will make $5.44 a share, up more than 140% from 2020.
\n
\"We remain at a Hold on valuation and due to concerns related to increasing EV competition and uncertainties related to the infrastructure bill and future tax credits, as various lawmakers increasingly withdraw their prior support for the infrastructure bill,\" he said.
\n
Wedbush's Dan Ives, though, is much more positive. He's calling for Tesla stock to rally more than 26% until hitting his 12-month price target of 1,000 a share. But he makes it clear that's a long-term call.
\n
\"We maintain our outperform rating and 1,000 price target as Tesla remains our favorite way to play the green tidal wave and a $5 trillion EV market over the next decade,\" he said.
\n
Tesla: Among The Most Overvalued S&P 500 Stocks, Say Analysts
\n

","source":"lsy1610449120050","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Stock Is Only Worth This Much, Analysts Insist
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Stock Is Only Worth This Much, Analysts Insist\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-08 21:02 GMT+8 investors\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Elon Musk just pitched investors on why Tesla Motors's future is bright. And they think that half of the overvalued S&P 500 stocks are just 3% too pricey.\nAnd that's where analysts' skepticism of Tesla is so unusual. The pessimistic 688.99 12-month price target on Tesla is the product of more than 30 analysts, says S&P Global Market Intelligence. And it's actually down roughly 3% from their price target of 709.44 in late April.\nBut part of the story is the massive spread between the believers and nonbelievers. The median 12-month price target, 755.00, on Tesla stock is higher than the average. The highest price target calls for shares to trade at 1,200, while the lowest is at 150. But even the more charitable median Tesla price target implies the stock is more than 6% overvalued. That's much higher than average within the S&P 500.\nAnd the stakes are huge. Tesla commands a market value of nearly $800 billion. Just this one consumer discretionary company accounts for nearly 2% of the S&P 500.Should you buy Tesla stock now?\nSome S&P 500 Analysts Break Rank\nNot all Tesla analysts are so bearish. Some are offering support.\nJust this week, CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson boosted his price target on Tesla by more than 11% to 750 a share. But that's still 5% lower than Thursday's close. Nelson also upped his adjusted earnings-per-share estimate for fiscal 2021 by more than 7% to $5.30. S&P 500 analysts at large think Tesla will make $5.44 a share, up more than 140% from 2020.\n\"We remain at a Hold on valuation and due to concerns related to increasing EV competition and uncertainties related to the infrastructure bill and future tax credits, as various lawmakers increasingly withdraw their prior support for the infrastructure bill,\" he said.\nWedbush's Dan Ives, though, is much more positive. He's calling for Tesla stock to rally more than 26% until hitting his 12-month price target of 1,000 a share. But he makes it clear that's a long-term call.\n\"We maintain our outperform rating and 1,000 price target as Tesla remains our favorite way to play the green tidal wave and a $5 trillion EV market over the next decade,\" he said.\nTesla: Among The Most Overvalued S&P 500 Stocks, Say Analysts","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":66,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":690937944,"gmtCreate":1639620448315,"gmtModify":1639620448720,"author":{"id":"4091077213138580","authorId":"4091077213138580","name":"Enghui","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b2cae67246a011bb13c2be0fd7648865","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Over rated stock","listText":"Over rated stock","text":"Over rated stock","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/690937944","repostId":"1143795954","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1143795954","pubTimestamp":1639613655,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1143795954?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-16 08:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Palantir: A Value Trap","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1143795954","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Summary\n\nPalantir is an overvalued government contractor.\nThe business has no intrinsic scale value.","content":"
Summary
\n
\n
Palantir is an overvalued government contractor.
\n
The business has no intrinsic scale value.
