Fool","summary":"The data-mining firm has a slim chance of eventually joining the 12-zero club.","content":"
Palantir Technologies (NYSE:PLTR) has been a volatile and polarizing investment since its direct listing last September. The bulls claimed its data-mining platforms would continue to grow as it signed more government and enterprise contracts.
\n
The bears pointed out that Palantir was too heavily dependent on government clients, its enterprise business faced too many competitors, it was deeply unprofitable, and its stock was too expensive.
\n
Palantir's stock price has experienced some wild swings over the past year, but it has still more than doubled since its first trade at $10 per share.
\n
Today, Palantir is valued at $41.3 billion, or 27 times this year's sales. The bears will argue that the high price-to-sales (P/S) ratio will limit its upside, especially as rising interest rates and inflation make many high-growth tech stocks less attractive.
\n
But let's look beyond the near-term noise and see if Palantir can still generate big multibagger gains, or even become a trillion-dollar stock, over the next two decades.
\n
How fast is Palantir growing?
\n
Palantir expects to grow its revenue by at least 30% annually between fiscal 2021 and 2025. That forecast implies its revenue will rise from its target of $1.5 billion this year to at least $4.3 billion in 2025.
\n
The company expects that growth to be driven by its new and expanded contracts with government agencies, as well as the growth of its Foundry platform for large commercial customers. The accelerating growth of its commercial business over the past year, which notably outpaced the growth of its government business last quarter, supports that thesis.
\n
Palantir's path toward a trillion-dollar market cap
\n
Palantir hasn't provided any longer-term targets beyond 2025. But based on the growth trajectory of other big data companies like Salesforce (NYSE:CRM), its annual revenue increase could potentially decelerate and stabilize at about 20% over the following 10 years.
\n
If it hits its target for 2025, then continues to grow its revenue at an average rate of 20% over the following 10 years, it could generate nearly $27 billion in revenue in 2035.
\n
If Palantir's revenue growth then slows down to 15% per year, which would be more comparable to Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) current rate, it could generate over $53 billion in revenue in 2040.
\n
Assuming the company is still valued at over 20 times sales, its market cap could surpass $1 trillion. But most tech giants that grow their revenue 15% to 25% annually aren't valued at more than 20 times sales.
\n
Microsoft, which is expected to generate 17% sales growth this year, trades at 13 times that estimate. Salesforce, which is expected to generate 24% sales growth this year, trades at just 11 times this year's sales.
\n
Therefore, Palantir's market cap could potentially hit $1 trillion by 2040, but it seems highly unlikely. Instead, it will likely be closer to $500 billion (which would still be a 12-bagger gain from its current valuation) if its stock is trading at a more reasonable P/S ratio of 10.
\n
Look beyond the market caps
\n
Instead of focusing on Palantir's path toward joining the 12-zero club, investors should focus on its ability to generate sustainable growth.
\n
The company has gained a firm foothold with the U.S. government, but it still faces competition from internally developed systems. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for example, has been developing its own platform to replace Palantir's Falcon. If other agencies follow ICE's lead, the company's dream of becoming the \"default operating system for data across the U.S. government\" could abruptly end.
\n
Palantir is making solid progress in the commercial market, but its Foundry platform still faces plenty of indirect competitors like C3.ai, Salesforce's Tableau, and Glue from Amazon Web Services.
\n
The company likely believes its reputation as a battle-hardened platform for the U.S. military and government agencies will attract more enterprise customers. But there's no guarantee that this appeal will last for decades or fend off newer, hungrier, and more disruptive players in the data-mining market.
\n
Is Palantir's stock still worth buying?
\n
I still believe Palantir's stock is a promising long-term investment on the secular growth of the data-mining and analytics market. The bulls claimed its data-mining platforms would continue to grow as it signed more government and enterprise contracts.\nThe bears pointed out that Palantir was too heavily dependent on government clients, its enterprise business faced too many competitors, it was deeply unprofitable, and its stock was too expensive.\nPalantir's stock price has experienced some wild swings over the past year, but it has still more than doubled since its first trade at $10 per share.\nToday, Palantir is valued at $41.3 billion, or 27 times this year's sales. The bears will argue that the high price-to-sales (P/S) ratio will limit its upside, especially as rising interest rates and inflation make many high-growth tech stocks less attractive.\nBut let's look beyond the near-term noise and see if Palantir can still generate big multibagger gains, or even become a trillion-dollar stock, over the next two decades.\nHow fast is Palantir growing?\nPalantir expects to grow its revenue by at least 30% annually between fiscal 2021 and 2025. That forecast implies its revenue will rise from its target of $1.5 billion this year to at least $4.3 billion in 2025.\nThe company expects that growth to be driven by its new and expanded contracts with government agencies, as well as the growth of its Foundry platform for large commercial customers. The accelerating growth of its commercial business over the past year, which notably outpaced the growth of its government business last quarter, supports that thesis.\nPalantir's path toward a trillion-dollar market cap\nPalantir hasn't provided any longer-term targets beyond 2025. But based on the growth trajectory of other big data companies like Salesforce (NYSE:CRM), its annual revenue increase could potentially decelerate and stabilize at about 20% over the following 10 years.\nIf it hits its target for 2025, then continues to grow its revenue at an average rate of 20% over the following 10 years, it could generate nearly $27 billion in revenue in 2035.\nIf Palantir's revenue growth then slows down to 15% per year, which would be more comparable to Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) current rate, it could generate over $53 billion in revenue in 2040.\nAssuming the company is still valued at over 20 times sales, its market cap could surpass $1 trillion. But most tech giants that grow their revenue 15% to 25% annually aren't valued at more than 20 times sales.\nMicrosoft, which is expected to generate 17% sales growth this year, trades at 13 times that estimate. Salesforce, which is expected to generate 24% sales growth this year, trades at just 11 times this year's sales.\nTherefore, Palantir's market cap could potentially hit $1 trillion by 2040, but it seems highly unlikely. Instead, it will likely be closer to $500 billion (which would still be a 12-bagger gain from its current valuation) if its stock is trading at a more reasonable P/S ratio of 10.\nLook beyond the market caps\nInstead of focusing on Palantir's path toward joining the 12-zero club, investors should focus on its ability to generate sustainable growth.\nThe company has gained a firm foothold with the U.S. government, but it still faces competition from internally developed systems. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for example, has been developing its own platform to replace Palantir's Falcon. If other agencies follow ICE's lead, the company's dream of becoming the \"default operating system for data across the U.S. government\" could abruptly end.\nPalantir is making solid progress in the commercial market, but its Foundry platform still faces plenty of indirect competitors like C3.ai, Salesforce's Tableau, and Glue from Amazon Web Services.\nThe company likely believes its reputation as a battle-hardened platform for the U.S. military and government agencies will attract more enterprise customers. But there's no guarantee that this appeal will last for decades or fend off newer, hungrier, and more disruptive players in the data-mining market.\nIs Palantir's stock still worth buying?\nI still believe Palantir's stock is a promising long-term investment on the secular growth of the data-mining and analytics market. However, there's a lot of growth already baked into the stock, and its high valuations could limit its near-term and long-term potential. Palantir probably won't hit a trillion-dollar valuation within the next two decades, but it could still outperform the market and generate impressive multibagger gains.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":730,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":874294214,"gmtCreate":1637781029301,"gmtModify":1637781029301,"author":{"id":"4087990794849240","authorId":"4087990794849240","name":"traderray","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/922f90761f17e559247419b3df5c9407","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087990794849240","authorIdStr":"4087990794849240"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF(LQD)$seems to be taking a hit from the Fed Minutes and inflation. Most investors are well aware of the FAANG stocks, which are the massive tech monsters that rule the market. In addition, one of the acronyms used to describe the constant rise in the stock markets, especially when the “buy the dip” crowd takes control after sizable selling, is FOMO, or fear of missing out.
\n
One of the very newest acronyms to hit the market speak lexicon is TINA. That stands for “there is no alternative,” which is an explanation for the constant ascent of the stock market. Basically what it means is that, due to very low yields on bonds and cash, especially with mounting inflation, owning stocks (especially those that pay solid and predictable dividends) is the only way to stay ahead of the game.
\n
If any one equity strategist across Wall Street has been right on the money over the past few years, it is Stifel’s head of Institutional Equity Strategy, Barry Bannister, and he is advising clients that we could be poised to have a TINA trap sell-off. We have covered his outstanding and prescient calls for years, and generally when he talks, we listen. Those who did so at the height of the sell-off in 2020 posted some massive gains.
\n
On March 19, 2020, just four short days before the final surge of selling and investor capitulation on March 23, Bannister and his team dropped a prediction for a relief rally that would carry the S&P 500 to the 2,750 level by April 30. On March 23, the index hit an intraday low of 2,191, and it closed at 2,237.
\n
We covered that incredibly bold prediction then, and while some were very skeptical of the call, Bannister made the prerequisite financial media rounds at the time giving his firm’s rationale for the prediction. In early April of 2020 as a surge of alarming news on the COVID-19 pandemic flooded the airwaves, Stifel came out and defended the call, telling clients to stand their ground. In the middle of April, as the rest of Wall Street was finally on board, Stifel raised the end-of-April target to 2,950. On April 30, in line with the laser-like call from Stifel, the S&P 500 closed at 2,912 after hitting an intraday high of 2,930 and after trading to 2,950 level the day before. In late May of 2020, Stifel once again raised the price target on the S&P 500 to 3,250 by August 30.
\n
Once again, Bannister sees storm clouds on the horizon, and with good reason. Everything from stocks to gold, Treasury debt and oil and have been pushed higher. This is a result of a unique combination of the FOMO worries and the TINA mentality. In a new research report, Bannister and his team feel that a lightning-fast 10% correction could occur in the remaining months of the fourth quarter. The report noted this:
\n
\n Near-term in the fourth quarter of 2021, we note that equal-weighted cyclicals vs. defensives are very near the point at which P/E-driven S&P 500 corrections occur, and we see downside equating to the S&P 500 falling from 4,535 currently to ~4,000 (prior view 3,800), around a 10% correction in the fourth quarter as we see mid-cycle risks.\n
\n
\n Our target and concerns are based on slowing global liquidity and tighter financial conditions with a gradual but unwavering Fed exit (especially after the Fed Chair is named). Sure, the Fed-inflated TINA trade “There is No Alternative” (to stocks) exists, but everyone goes into the boxing ring “with a plan” to buy-the-dip…until they get hit with a double-digit correction.\n
\n
\n Looking out to mid-2022 through 2025, we observe that value vs. growth tracks the S&P 500 divided by commodity index ratio, which soared in 2020 (favored growth stocks), fell in 2021 (favors value) and may bounce in mid-2022 (after the S&P 500 corrects) favoring growth, post-dip. We also show that despite the Quantitative Easing taper the S&P 500 could hit 5,200 by Jun-2022 (TINA’s last gasp?). Moreover, we see no actual bear market, which would be a 20% or more decline until fed funds is 1% (4 rate hikes), which fed funds futures indicate does not occur until 2024.\n
","source":"lsy1620372341666","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Top Wall Street Strategist Sees a Fast 10% Q4 Correction Coming
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTop Wall Street Strategist Sees a Fast 10% Q4 Correction Coming\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-30 15:32 GMT+8 24/7 wall street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
A plethora of acronyms are used in the financial world for a wide variety of items. Most investors are well aware of the FAANG stocks, which are the massive tech monsters that rule the market. In addition, one of the acronyms used to describe the constant rise in the stock markets, especially when the “buy the dip” crowd takes control after sizable selling, is FOMO, or fear of missing out.\nOne of the very newest acronyms to hit the market speak lexicon is TINA. That stands for “there is no alternative,” which is an explanation for the constant ascent of the stock market. Basically what it means is that, due to very low yields on bonds and cash, especially with mounting inflation, owning stocks (especially those that pay solid and predictable dividends) is the only way to stay ahead of the game.\nIf any one equity strategist across Wall Street has been right on the money over the past few years, it is Stifel’s head of Institutional Equity Strategy, Barry Bannister, and he is advising clients that we could be poised to have a TINA trap sell-off. We have covered his outstanding and prescient calls for years, and generally when he talks, we listen.
Those who did so at the height of the sell-off in 2020 posted some massive gains.\nOn March 19, 2020, just four short days before the final surge of selling and investor capitulation on March 23, Bannister and his team dropped a prediction for a relief rally that would carry the S&P 500 to the 2,750 level by April 30. On March 23, the index hit an intraday low of 2,191, and it closed at 2,237.\nWe covered that incredibly bold prediction then, and while some were very skeptical of the call, Bannister made the prerequisite financial media rounds at the time giving his firm’s rationale for the prediction. In late May of 2020, Stifel once again raised the price target on the S&P 500 to 3,250 by August 30.\nOnce again, Bannister sees storm clouds on the horizon, and with good reason. The report noted this:\n\n Near-term in the fourth quarter of 2021, we note that equal-weighted cyclicals vs. defensives are very near the point at which P/E-driven S&P 500 corrections occur, and we see downside equating to the S&P 500 falling from 4,535 currently to ~4,000 (prior view 3,800), around a 10% correction in the fourth quarter as we see mid-cycle risks.\n\n\n Our target and concerns are based on slowing global liquidity and tighter financial conditions with a gradual but unwavering Fed exit (especially after the Fed Chair is named). Sure, the Fed-inflated TINA trade “There is No Alternative” (to stocks) exists, but everyone goes into the boxing ring “with a plan” to buy-the-dip…until they get hit with a double-digit correction.\n\n\n Looking out to mid-2022 through 2025, we observe that value vs. growth tracks the S&P 500 divided by commodity index ratio, which soared in 2020 (favored growth stocks), fell in 2021 (favors value) and may bounce in mid-2022 (after the S&P 500 corrects) favoring growth, post-dip. We also show that despite the Quantitative Easing taper the S&P 500 could hit 5,200 by Jun-2022 (TINA’s last gasp?). Moreover, we see no actual bear market, which would be a 20% or more decline until fed funds is 1% (4 rate hikes), which fed funds futures indicate does not occur until 2024.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":211,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":822118103,"gmtCreate":1634100491380,"gmtModify":1634100494219,"author":{"id":"4087990794849240","authorId":"4087990794849240","name":"traderray","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/922f90761f17e559247419b3df5c9407","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087990794849240","authorIdStr":"4087990794849240"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Will yields rise?","listText":"Will yields rise?","text":"Will yields rise?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/822118103","repostId":"2175132100","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2175132100","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1634079953,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2175132100?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-13 07:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street closes lower on jitters ahead of earnings, Fed minutes","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2175132100","media":"Reuters","summary":"NEW YORK, Oct 12 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks finished lower on Tuesday, extending losses late as investo","content":"
NEW YORK, Oct 12 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks finished lower on Tuesday, extending losses late as investors grew more jittery in the run up to third-quarter earnings, while a jump in Tesla shares helped support the market.
\n
Adding to investor caution, the Federal Reserve is expected to release minutes on Wednesday from its last policy meeting, which market participants will scour for hints about when the U.S. central bank could begin tapering its massive bond-buying program.
\n
All three major U.S. stock indexes ended in the red with the Dow down the most, weighed by healthcare and industrials .
\n
Earnings unofficially kick off this week with results from JPMorgan Chase & Co on Wednesday and other banks to follow. The organizing involves more than 2,000 workers across four Amazon facilities in Staten Island who have signed on to the effort, according to a statement from the group.
\n
Chris Smalls, a former Amazon employee who was fired from the company last year, is leading the group.
\n
“Workers are demanding Amazon to stop their union busting practices and allow workers to use their rights to organize towards collective bargaining without interference,” the Amazon Labor Union said in a statement. The group hopes to achieve higher wages, create safer working conditions and increase paid time off, breaks and medical-leave options, among other goals.
\n
Workers have been demanding more from their employers across the U.S. as companies struggle with labor shortages and snarled supply chains. Union officials have said that workers are motivated by lingering frustration over their hours, pay and concerns for their health, particularly for those working on the front lines during the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
For the group to get to an election, petitioners typically have to collect employee signatures of at least 30% of the proposed bargaining unit, in this case the four Amazon facilities. The NLRB would determine whether the proposed unit is appropriate for a joint election, or if each facility would have to hold its own vote, according to Rebecca Givan, a labor professor at Rutgers University.
\n
Mr. Smalls has been trying to organize Amazon employees since leading a walkout last year at the company’s JFK8 facility in Staten Island to protest working conditions during the pandemic.
\n
Amazon said then that Mr. Smalls had violated company policies, including social-distancing measures. Months ago he began campaigning outside the facility and created the Amazon Labor Union, which he has said is operating as a worker-led, independent union.
\n
Workers at an Amazon facility in Bessemer, Ala., earlier this year voted against joining the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, or RWDSU, with about 71% of those who cast ballotsvoting against unionization.
\n
That election could be headed for a revote after a federal labor official in August found that Amazon violated labor law during the election process, a charge Amazon has denied. In addition, Amazon faces a union push by the Canadian arm of the Teamsters.
\n
“Bessemer was a motivation,” Mr. Smalls said in an interview. “They showed us the blueprint on how to get to a vote.”
\n
Mr. Smalls’s group faces obstacles. Even if workers obtain an election, Amazon can legally use a number of tactics to discourage unionization. During the Bessemer campaign, the company held regular meetings inside its facility with workers to persuade them to vote against the union.
\n
By campaigning independently, Mr. Smalls could lack the financial resources and expertise that Bessemer workers received from the RWDSU while taking on Amazon, the nation’s second-largest private employer. The Amazon Labor Union has largely been funded by a GoFundMe account that raised about $20,500 as of Wednesday.
\n
Amazon has long opposed unionization. No company employee is unionized in the U.S., with Amazon having said that it already provides the benefits unions ask for and prefers to negotiate with workers directly.
\n
Last month Amazon settled a case brought by two former staff members who said the tech company fired them after they criticized its handling of climate policies and warehouse safety.
\n
Amazon has said the employees weren’t fired for speaking about working conditions or safety, but for repeatedly violating internal policies. The organizing involves more than 2,000 workers across four Amazon facilities in Staten Island who have signed on to the effort, according to a statement from the group.\nChris Smalls, a former Amazon employee who was fired from the company last year, is leading the group.\n“Workers are demanding Amazon to stop their union busting practices and allow workers to use their rights to organize towards collective bargaining without interference,” the Amazon Labor Union said in a statement. The group hopes to achieve higher wages, create safer working conditions and increase paid time off, breaks and medical-leave options, among other goals.\nWorkers have been demanding more from their employers across the U.S. as companies struggle with labor shortages and snarled supply chains. Union officials have said that workers are motivated by lingering frustration over their hours, pay and concerns for their health, particularly for those working on the front lines during the Covid-19 pandemic.\nFor the group to get to an election, petitioners typically have to collect employee signatures of at least 30% of the proposed bargaining unit, in this case the four Amazon facilities. The NLRB would determine whether the proposed unit is appropriate for a joint election, or if each facility would have to hold its own vote, according to Rebecca Givan, a labor professor at Rutgers University.\nMr. Smalls has been trying to organize Amazon employees since leading a walkout last year at the company’s JFK8 facility in Staten Island to protest working conditions during the pandemic.\nAmazon said then that Mr. Smalls had violated company policies, including social-distancing measures. Months ago he began campaigning outside the facility and created the Amazon Labor Union, which he has said is operating as a worker-led, independent union.\nWorkers at an Amazon facility in Bessemer, Ala., earlier this year voted against joining the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, or RWDSU, with about 71% of those who cast ballotsvoting against unionization.\nThat election could be headed for a revote after a federal labor official in August found that Amazon violated labor law during the election process, a charge Amazon has denied. In addition, Amazon faces a union push by the Canadian arm of the Teamsters.\n“Bessemer was a motivation,” Mr. Smalls said in an interview. “They showed us the blueprint on how to get to a vote.”\nMr. Smalls’s group faces obstacles. Even if workers obtain an election, Amazon can legally use a number of tactics to discourage unionization. During the Bessemer campaign, the company held regular meetings inside its facility with workers to persuade them to vote against the union.\nBy campaigning independently, Mr. Smalls could lack the financial resources and expertise that Bessemer workers received from the RWDSU while taking on Amazon, the nation’s second-largest private employer. The Amazon Labor Union has largely been funded by a GoFundMe account that raised about $20,500 as of Wednesday.\nAmazon has long opposed unionization. No company employee is unionized in the U.S., with Amazon having said that it already provides the benefits unions ask for and prefers to negotiate with workers directly.\nLast month Amazon settled a case brought by two former staff members who said the tech company fired them after they criticized its handling of climate policies and warehouse safety.\nAmazon has said the employees weren’t fired for speaking about working conditions or safety, but for repeatedly violating internal policies. The company settled with the two employees before facing them in a hearing conducted by the NLRB.\nCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, recently signed a new law requiring Amazon and other companiesto disclose quotasand other requirements in their workplaces, as well as barring them from enforcing quotas and penalties that would affect an employee’s safety and well-being.\nAmazon has sought ways to reduce injuries for workers after years of criticism overwarehouse safety conditions. Part of those efforts have centered on educating employees on body mechanics and on easing some policies related to work quotas.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":280,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":859474077,"gmtCreate":1634729090244,"gmtModify":1634729100377,"author":{"id":"4087990794849240","authorId":"4087990794849240","name":"traderray","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/922f90761f17e559247419b3df5c9407","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087990794849240","authorIdStr":"4087990794849240"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Virgin Galactic(SPCE)$need to forget this one already","listText":"$Virgin Galactic(SPCE)$need to forget this one already","text":"$Virgin Galactic(SPCE)$need to forget this one already","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8b2bcf5e50b8f8c24f26dbff90334bbc","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/859474077","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":446,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":828788821,"gmtCreate":1633946439337,"gmtModify":1633946461508,"author":{"id":"4087990794849240","authorId":"4087990794849240","name":"traderray","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/922f90761f17e559247419b3df5c9407","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087990794849240","authorIdStr":"4087990794849240"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I wonder if JPow will actually follow through or not. But many investors either want to chase performance over reliability or simply cannot wait 10 or 20 years for their portfolios to pay off. That's where thematic exchange-traded funds can come in. These funds invest in a basket of stocks that share a common strategic opportunity but often come in different sizes or geographic flavors. The important thing is the theme -- and if that theme pays off, the ETF will do quite well. Here are seven thematic ETFs that are in fashion right now.
\n
Global X Autonomous & Electric Vehicles (ticker:DRIV)
\n
With about $1 billion under management, this Global X fund is a serious contender with substantial assets under its belt. The reason for this fund's popularity should be obvious. Analyst firm Wood Mackenzie predicts sales of more than 6 million EVs in 2021, and in the first half of this year, sales doubled over the same period last year. Safety features such as lane assist and smart cruise control keep getting more sophisticated, with some like Tesla Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk insisting that fully autonomous driving capability is right around the corner. DRIV makes sure you have a foot in all these emerging transportation technologies via hot stocks like Tesla, as well as more than 70 others, including legacy automakers like Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) and tech stocks like Google parent company Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL,GOOG).
\n
ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK)
\n
Cathie Wood of boutique management firm Ark Invest has quickly made a name for herself thanks to this dynamic ETF that plays on the broad but compelling theme of innovation. According to official fund documentation, \"ARK defines 'disruptive innovation' as the introduction of a technologically enabled product or service that potentially changes the way the world works.\" That means you get a share in stocks such as remote medicine firm Teladoc Health Inc. (TDOC) and crypto currency platform Coinbase Global Inc. (COIN), to name a few. This fund is incredibly popular, with more than $20 billion under management and a five-star rating from research firm Morningstar.
\n
Direxion Work From Home ETF (WFH)
\n
Though it's the smallest thematic ETF on this list at just $112 million in assets, WFH gained fast attention following its June 2020 launch in the wake of workplace disruptions caused by the pandemic. Nearly everyone, save some stubborn and out-of-touch bosses, agrees that some kind of remote work, whether it be hybrid or full-time telecommuting, is here to stay. This ETF plays the work-from-home trend, with top holdings including high-techtelecomfirm 8x8 Inc. (EGHT), creative software giant Adobe Inc. (ADBE) and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN).
\n
Global X Cloud Computing ETF (CLOU)
\n
Similar to the work-from-home trend that takes a nod from major enterprise technology themes, the Global X Cloud Computing ETF is a powerful way to filter out sleepy legacytech stocks from their more dynamic peers. Consider that in 2020, revenue from the worldwide public cloud services market totaled $312 billion, according market research firm IDC estimates. That cloud spending is expected to grow more than 15% per year over the next five years. With cloud infrastructure plays like security firm Zscaler Inc. (ZS) and dynamic cloud software leaders like Salesforce.com Inc. (CRM), this is a one-stop shop to ensure that you tap into this business megatrend in the years to come.
\n
Global X FinTech ETF (FINX)
\n
In the digital age, the idea of mobile payments has moved decidedly into the mainstream. Beyond just smartphone apps that allow you to buy falafel at a food truck with ease, there are also many next-generation technologies being deployed in the financial sector, including artificial intelligence programs that detect fraud and cryptocurrency applications. Global X and its $1.3 billion FINX ETF wraps this theme up in one fund, with top holdings including mobile payments giant Square Inc. (SQ) and accounting technologies company Intuit Inc. (INTU). If you want to play the rise of fintech, this thematic ETF could be worth a look.
\n
Robo Global Robotics & Automation ETF (ROBO)
\n
While other technological trends tend to make more headlines due to flashy, consumer-focused angles, investors should not overlook the ROBO thematic ETF, which holds $1.8 billion in assets. As the name implies, this fund comprises stocks that are working toward automation and efficiency in industrial, health care and technology settings. Top holdings include semiconductor industry service provider Brooks Automation Inc. (BRKS), digital health care company iRhythm Technologies Inc. (IRTC) and 3D printer manufacturer Stratasys Ltd. (SSYS), to name a few.
\n
Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF (ARKX)
\n
As the old TV cliché goes, space is the final frontier of human discovery -- and with ARKX, investors can tap into the publicly traded companies that are involved in the 21st-century space race. This $534 million fund is a good mix of traditional aerospace names like Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT), satellite firms like Trimble Inc. (TRMB) and next-generation plays like drone leader AeroVironment Inc. (AVAV). If you really want to chase moons hot stocks, then this thematic ETF offers you true exposure to for-profit space companies.
\n
Thematic ETFs to buy for the fourth quarter:
\n
-- Global X Autonomous & Electric Vehicles (DRIV)
\n
-- Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK)
\n
-- Direxion Work From Home ETF (WFH)
\n
-- Global X Cloud Computing ETF (CLOU)
\n
-- Global X FinTech ETF (FINX)
\n
-- Robo Global Robotics & Automation ETF (ROBO)
\n
-- Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF (ARKX)
","source":"lsy1627705648360","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
7 Thematic ETFs to Buy for 4Q 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n7 Thematic ETFs to Buy for 4Q 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-15 19:01 GMT+8 US News\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
These niche funds have the potential to outperform more generalized investments.\nThe power of index funds is well established, as patient investors who \"set it and forget it\" tend to be very happy ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/6-thematic-etfs-4q-2020-191356145.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1175130877","content_text":"These niche funds have the potential to outperform more generalized investments.\nThe power of index funds is well established, as patient investors who \"set it and forget it\" tend to be very happy with their portfolios in the long term.
