result","content":"

Recent IPO Palantir Technologies(PLTR) fell 9% on Nov. 9, after reporting mixed third-quarter results before the open. It's now trading near seven-month lows.

What gives?

The software provider's earnings met Wall Street targets, while sales beat forecasts. Palantir also added more customers than expected — but the stock fell as government revenue growth missed.

After the report, RBC Capital analyst Rishi Jaluria downgraded Palantir stock to underperform. "Government, to us, is the strongest part of Palantir's business and while we expected a deceleration, the growth rate was nearly cut in half from Q2 to Q3," Jaluria said in a report.

Government agencies, the chief growth driver, use Palantir software for intelligence gathering, counterterrorism and military purposes. The Denver-based company has been aiming to grow its commercial customer base by expanding into the health care, energy and manufacturing sectors.

And Palantir is now entering the digital cryptocurrency market, for which it recently released new software.

"We are super excited about Foundry (software) for crypto," Chief Operating Officer Shyam Sankar said on the Q3 earnings call. "We think we're going to be a massive accelerant for crypto companies."

He added: "We're going to give them credible AML (anti-money laundering) platforms to enable them to go toe-to-toe and beyond with the legacy players. We're going to deliver (regulatory) compliance so they can focus on disruption. And, of course, they are welcome to pay us in crypto."

Palantir's Origins

Palantir was founded in the early 2000s by PayPal(PYPL) co-founder Peter Thiel, Nathan Gettings, Joe Lonsdale, Stephen Cohen and Alex Karp. The company name is derived from the palantiri, crystal ball-like "seeing stones" from The Lord of the Rings.

The Denver-based company offers three platforms: Palantir Gotham, used primarily by government agencies; Palantir Metropolis for banks, financial services firms and hedge funds; and Palantir Foundry, used by corporate clients.

To speed up corporate adoption of artificial intelligence software, Palantir and IBM(IBM) announced a global partnership earlier this year. Under the deal, Palantir made its Foundry software available to IBM's cloud computing customers. The Foundry platform is a centralized data operating system that lets users manage, filter and visualize large data sets.

PLTR Stock Fundamental Analysis

IBD Stock Checkupassigns Palantir a 29Composite Rating. This proprietary rating gives investors a quick way to gauge a stock's key growth traits. Palantir belongs to the 120-stock enterprise software group, which includes DocuSign(DOCU),Salesforce.com(CRM),Shopify(SHOP) and Zoom Video(ZM).

A 61Earnings Per Share Rating, part of the overall composite score, also lags. That could improve, however, as Palantir is expected to stay profitable after earning 9 cents a share last year. Analysts expect EPS of 15 cents this year, followed by a 40% jump to 21 cents next year.

On Nov. 9, before the opening bell, the company reported Q3 adjusted earnings of 4 cents a share on revenue of $392 million. Analysts estimated EPS of 4 cents on revenue of $385 million.

Government revenue rose 34% to $218 million from the year-earlier period, missing views for $235.9 million. Commercial revenue rose 37% to $174 million, topping estimates for $148.6 million.

Palantir said it added 34 net new customers during the period, up from 20 in the second quarter. It ended Q3 with 203 customers, topping estimates of 180.

For the current quarter ending in December, Palantir forecast revenue of $418 million. That's above analysts estimates for $402 million in revenue, according to FactSet.

PLTR Stock Technical Analysis

PLTR stock is nearly 60% off its Jan. 27 peak. But it's still up more than 150% from its Sept. 30, 2020 debut, when Palantir launched a direct listing priced at 7.25 a share.

In a traditional IPO, companies create new shares, underwrite them and sell them to the public. A direct listing creates no new shares and sells only existing, outstanding shares with no underwriters involved.

Palantir stock quickly formed a four-week IPO base, which it cleared in late November. After a 191% run from the 11.52buy point, the stock built an eight-week consolidation. A subsequent break out yielded a 34% gain from the 33.60 entry, before shares began pulling back.

Palantir stock'sRelative Strength Rating has fallen to 16, which puts it in the bottom 84% of all stocks. The relative strength line, which compares a stock's performance to the S&P 500, is also heading south.

Its E Accumulation/Distribution Ratingpoints to more net selling vs. buying by mutual funds.

As of Sept. 30, 699 mutual funds owned Palantir stock, up from 556 in June. Those earning an A+ from IBD include Vanguard Growth Index Investor (VIGRX), Rydex Technology Fund (RYTIX) and American Beacon ARK Transformational Innovation Fund (ADNPX).

Conclusion

Recent IPO Palantir continues to post double-digit sales growth and turned its first yearly profit last year. The software maker is working to expand its commercial business. It recently released software for the digital cryptocurrency market.

Palantir stock fell below its50-day moving average after its Q3 results, according to IBD MarketSmithchart analysis. In late September, it triggered the 7%-8% loss-cutting sell rule from a 26.04buy point of a cup with handle.

Until Nov. 9, PLTR had been working on a new consolidation with a 29.39 buy point. It's now below that entry, as well as its 50-day and 200-day lines. While it's been trading tightly recently, you'd like to see a prior uptrend before a proper base can take shape.

So, it's not a buy right now. A 29 Composite Rating and 61 EPS Rating are also lower than you'd like to see with most growth stocks. But it may be worth keeping an eye on Palantir as it enters new markets.

Don't forget to watch the overall market, too. It's currently in a confirmed uptrend, which means investors can buy leading stocks at proper buy points.

","source":"lsy1610449120050","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is PLTR Stock A Buy Right Now, As Palantir Trades Near Seven-Month Lows?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs PLTR Stock A Buy Right Now, As Palantir Trades Near Seven-Month Lows?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-31 14:20 GMT+8 Investors\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Recent IPO Palantir Technologies(PLTR) fell 9% on Nov. 9, after reporting mixed third-quarter results before the open. It recently released software for the digital cryptocurrency market.Palantir stock fell below its50-day moving average after its Q3 results, according to IBD MarketSmithchart analysis. In late September, it triggered the 7%-8% loss-cutting sell rule from a 26.04buy point of a cup with handle.Until Nov. But it may be worth keeping an eye on Palantir as it enters new markets.Don't forget to watch the overall market, too. It's currently in a confirmed uptrend, which means investors can buy leading stocks at proper buy points.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2291,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":692010526,"gmtCreate":1640790322371,"gmtModify":1640790322788,"author":{"id":"4087986020499840","authorId":"4087986020499840","name":"BerryNat","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27333e490249edd9b1054f0311c8584c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087986020499840","authorIdStr":"4087986020499840"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Aiyo is that why price dropping again?","listText":"Aiyo is that why price dropping again?","text":"Aiyo is that why price dropping again?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/692010526","repostId":"1117939518","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1498,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":692009957,"gmtCreate":1640784963387,"gmtModify":1640784963837,"author":{"id":"4087986020499840","authorId":"4087986020499840","name":"BerryNat","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27333e490249edd9b1054f0311c8584c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087986020499840","authorIdStr":"4087986020499840"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please!","listText":"Like please!","text":"Like please!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/692009957","repostId":"1165021822","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165021822","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1640781378,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1165021822?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-29 20:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Are LG Display Shares Trading Higher Premarket?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165021822","media":"Benzinga","summary":"LG Display Co Ltd showcased its latest OLED TV technology, 'OLED EX.'The next-generation OLED EX dis","content":"

LG Display Co Ltd showcased its latest OLED TV technology, 'OLED EX.'

The next-generation OLED EX display implements LG Display's deuterium and personalized algorithm-based 'EX Technology,' which helps boost the innovative display's overall picture quality by enhancing brightness up to 30% versus conventional OLED displays.

The OLED EX name is an acronym of 'Evolution' and 'eXperience,' representing the company's goal of providing customers with new experiences through its ever-evolving OLED technology.

LG Display is the world's leading innovator of display technologies.

"Despite the global TV market experiencing a 12 percent decline this year, we still observed a 70 percent growth in OLED sales," said Dr. Oh Chang-ho, Executive Vice President & Head of the TV Business Unit at LG Display. That's not to say that CMCSA stock ","content":"
Comcast stock historically has not made big runs from breakouts. That's not to say that CMCSA stock doesn't have good years.
\n
Comcast (CMCSA) stock rose 32% in 2019, trading mostly in line with the S&P 500. But in 2020, Comcast stock underperformed when compared with cable peers Charter Communications (CHTR) and Altice (ATUS).
\n
In 2021, CMCSA stock has retreated nearly 5% as of Dec. 27. Comcast stock is down 19% from its 52-week high of 61.80 set on Sept. 2.
\n
Comcast's high-speed internet services to homes and businesses remains its biggest growth driver, despite two big acquisitions. Comcast and other cable TV firms are expected to ramp up wireless promotions in 2022 as broadband growth slows.
\n
The biggest U.S. cable TV company, Comcast also owns media firm NBCUniversal and U.K.-based Sky. Comcast in May re-started a stock repurchase program.
\n
While broadband service growth is slowing, the pace of CMCSA stock buybacks is expected to pick up in 2022.
\n
\"Comcast reported extremely strong Q3 financial results with cable posting double-digit EBITDA for the 5th consecutive quarter, NBCU benefitting from re-opening and Sky supported by reduced sports costs,\" said Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich in a report. \"While Comcast effectively lowered its 2021 broadband net add guide to 'around 2019,' we remain bullish on Comcast's cable operations.\"
\n
She added: \"CMCSA stock is leaning into its sizable mobile opportunity, while commercial growth remains healthy. NBCU will continue to benefit from re-opening, with theme parks poised to be lifted by the eventual return of international visitors. Comcast has reached its target leverage and will begin ramping share repurchases.\"
\n
Comcast Stock: No Update On Peacock Growth
\n
NBCU and the new Peacock-branded video streaming service were expected to get a boost from the Summer Olympics in Japan. But viewership disappointed amid coronavirus restrictions and advertisers were compensated, NBCU said.
\n
The Peacock service signed up 12 million users in the second quarter, giving it 54 million overall. Of the 54 million, about 20 million were active monthly users. Comcast did not update Peacock user data when it reported September quarter earnings.
\n
The Peacock service should get a boost when it streams NBCU content that is currently available on Hulu, a joint venture with Walt Disney (DIS). Comcast owns a 33% stake in Hulu.
\n
Disney is expected to buy out that stake by 2024 or sooner under an agreement. Analysts say the stake could be worth from $10 billion to $15 billion.
\n
Comcast and ViacomCBS (VIAC) on Aug. 18 announced the formation of a joint venture that will launch SkyShowtime, a new streaming service slated to roll out in over 20 European countries starting in 2022.
\n
In July, NBC announced it is pulling its Universal Pictures films from AT&T's (T) HBO. It will make Peacock the online home for new releases after the movies play in theaters.
\n
However, NBC's Universal also announced a multi-year licensing deal with Amazon Prime. The deal could generate $2 billion in revenue, according to reports. Universal films will be exclusively available on Amazon.com's (AMZN) streaming service for four months after exiting theatres.
\n
CMCSA Stock Fundamental Analysis
\n
One issue is whether Roberts family-controlled Comcast stock will continue to make acquisitions.
\n
Ralph Roberts co-founded Comcast in the 1960s. A dual-class stock structure gives the Roberts family control of about a third of the company's voting power.
\n
Since the days of cable industry pioneer John Malone at Tele-Communications Inc., free cash flow has been a key metric for cable TV companies. Comcast's cable business churns out the lion's share of free cash flow, even though it continues to lose video subscribers.
\n
Consumers are switching to on-demand internet streaming services, but people still need internet services for video streaming. So growth in broadband services has been a bright spot. In addition, analysts expect upside for Comcast stock as it hikes prices for both video and broadband services in 2021.
\n
Even before the coronavirus pandemic hit, NBCU struggled with ongoing changes in the entertainment business. Advertising continues to shift from broadcast TV to internet and mobile platforms.
\n
Comcast restructured to consolidate its cable networks, broadcast networks and Peacock streaming service under one reporting unit.
\n
Beijing Theme Park Key For NBCUniversal
\n
In wireless services, Comcast competes with Verizon, T-Mobile U.S. (TMUS) and AT&T. Telecom stocks are among large-cap technology stocks to watch and buy.
\n
The Peacock video streaming service competes with Disney, AT&T's HBO, Netflix (NFLX) and others.
\n
A recently signed deal with Roku is a plus for the Peacock service, analysts say. Roku stock has climbed as it emerges as a big player in video streaming.
\n
One big question is how soon theme parks can return to profitability while operating at lower capacity with fewer visitors.
\n
Comcast opened its $580 million Super Nintendo World attraction in Japan in early February. A Universal Studios theme park in Beijing is expected to open in 2021.
\n
Comcast Stock Technical Analysis
\n
Satellite TV broadcaster Sky remains a \"show-me\" risk for investors amid broadband investments and equipment upgrades.
\n
Further, Comcast stock holds a Relative Strength Rating of only 27 out of a best-possible 99, according to IBD Stock Check-up.
\n
In addition, CMCSA stock holds an Accumulation/Distribution Rating of D-plus. The rating analyzes price and volume changes in a stock over the past 13 weeks of trading. On an A+ to E scale, the rating measures institutional buying and selling in a stock. A+ signifies heavy institutional buying; E means heavy selling. Think of the C grade as neutral.
\n
From a technical view, the company keeps forming bases on top of or next to one another, and has yet to make a sustained run.
\n
Is Comcast Stock A Buy Now?
\n
What makes CMCSA stock different from cable industry peers is ownership of media and entertainment firm NBCUniversal and U.K.-based Sky. Investors playing the cable space may prefer less diversified pure plays such as Charter or Altice.
\n
CMCSA stock holds an IBD Composite Rating of 61 out of a best possible 99, according to IBD Stock Checkup.
\n
IBD's Composite Rating combines five separate proprietary ratings into one easy-to-use rating. The best growth stocks have a Composite Rating of 90 or better.
\n
As of Dec. 27, CMCSA stock trades well below a buy zone. Its entry point is 61.90.
","source":"lsy1610449120050","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is Comcast Stock A Buy? Comcast stock is down 19% from its 52-week high of 61.80 set on Sept. 2.\nComcast's high-speed internet services to homes and businesses remains its biggest growth driver, despite two big acquisitions. Comcast and other cable TV firms are expected to ramp up wireless promotions in 2022 as broadband growth slows.\nThe biggest U.S. cable TV company, Comcast also owns media firm NBCUniversal and U.K.-based Sky. Comcast in May re-started a stock repurchase program.\nWhile broadband service growth is slowing, the pace of CMCSA stock buybacks is expected to pick up in 2022.\n\"Comcast reported extremely strong Q3 financial results with cable posting double-digit EBITDA for the 5th consecutive quarter, NBCU benefitting from re-opening and Sky supported by reduced sports costs,\" said Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich in a report. \"While Comcast effectively lowered its 2021 broadband net add guide to 'around 2019,' we remain bullish on Comcast's cable operations.\"\nShe added: \"CMCSA stock is leaning into its sizable mobile opportunity, while commercial growth remains healthy. NBCU will continue to benefit from re-opening, with theme parks poised to be lifted by the eventual return of international visitors. Comcast has reached its target leverage and will begin ramping share repurchases.\"\nComcast Stock: No Update On Peacock Growth\nNBCU and the new Peacock-branded video streaming service were expected to get a boost from the Summer Olympics in Japan. But viewership disappointed amid coronavirus restrictions and advertisers were compensated, NBCU said.\nThe Peacock service signed up 12 million users in the second quarter, giving it 54 million overall. Of the 54 million, about 20 million were active monthly users. Comcast did not update Peacock user data when it reported September quarter earnings.\nThe Peacock service should get a boost when it streams NBCU content that is currently available on Hulu, a joint venture with Walt Disney (DIS). Comcast owns a 33% stake in Hulu.\nDisney is expected to buy out that stake by 2024 or sooner under an agreement. Analysts say the stake could be worth from $10 billion to $15 billion.\nComcast and ViacomCBS (VIAC) on Aug. 18 announced the formation of a joint venture that will launch SkyShowtime, a new streaming service slated to roll out in over 20 European countries starting in 2022.\nIn July, NBC announced it is pulling its Universal Pictures films from AT&T's (T) HBO. It will make Peacock the online home for new releases after the movies play in theaters.\nHowever, NBC's Universal also announced a multi-year licensing deal with Amazon Prime. The deal could generate $2 billion in revenue, according to reports. Universal films will be exclusively available on Amazon.com's (AMZN) streaming service for four months after exiting theatres.\nCMCSA Stock Fundamental Analysis\nOne issue is whether Roberts family-controlled Comcast stock will continue to make acquisitions.\nRalph Roberts co-founded Comcast in the 1960s. A dual-class stock structure gives the Roberts family control of about a third of the company's voting power.\nSince the days of cable industry pioneer John Malone at Tele-Communications Inc., free cash flow has been a key metric for cable TV companies. Comcast's cable business churns out the lion's share of free cash flow, even though it continues to lose video subscribers.\nConsumers are switching to on-demand internet streaming services, but people still need internet services for video streaming. So growth in broadband services has been a bright spot. In addition, analysts expect upside for Comcast stock as it hikes prices for both video and broadband services in 2021.\nEven before the coronavirus pandemic hit, NBCU struggled with ongoing changes in the entertainment business. Advertising continues to shift from broadcast TV to internet and mobile platforms.\nComcast restructured to consolidate its cable networks, broadcast networks and Peacock streaming service under one reporting unit.\nBeijing Theme Park Key For NBCUniversal\nIn wireless services, Comcast competes with Verizon, T-Mobile U.S. (TMUS) and AT&T. Telecom stocks are among large-cap technology stocks to watch and buy.\nThe Peacock video streaming service competes with Disney, AT&T's HBO, Netflix (NFLX) and others.\nA recently signed deal with Roku is a plus for the Peacock service, analysts say. Roku stock has climbed as it emerges as a big player in video streaming.\nOne big question is how soon theme parks can return to profitability while operating at lower capacity with fewer visitors.\nComcast opened its $580 million Super Nintendo World attraction in Japan in early February. A Universal Studios theme park in Beijing is expected to open in 2021.\nComcast Stock Technical Analysis\nSatellite TV broadcaster Sky remains a \"show-me\" risk for investors amid broadband investments and equipment upgrades.\nFurther, Comcast stock holds a Relative Strength Rating of only 27 out of a best-possible 99, according to IBD Stock Check-up.\nIn addition, CMCSA stock holds an Accumulation/Distribution Rating of D-plus. The rating analyzes price and volume changes in a stock over the past 13 weeks of trading. On an A+ to E scale, the rating measures institutional buying and selling in a stock. A+ signifies heavy institutional buying; E means heavy selling. Think of the C grade as neutral.\nFrom a technical view, the company keeps forming bases on top of or next to one another, and has yet to make a sustained run.\nIs Comcast Stock A Buy Now?\nWhat makes CMCSA stock different from cable industry peers is ownership of media and entertainment firm NBCUniversal and U.K.-based Sky. Investors playing the cable space may prefer less diversified pure plays such as Charter or Altice.\nCMCSA stock holds an IBD Composite Rating of 61 out of a best possible 99, according to IBD Stock Checkup.\nIBD's Composite Rating combines five separate proprietary ratings into one easy-to-use rating. The best growth stocks have a Composite Rating of 90 or better.\nAs of Dec. 27, CMCSA stock trades well below a buy zone. Its entry point is 61.90.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1736,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":698424813,"gmtCreate":1640503208089,"gmtModify":1640503208438,"author":{"id":"4087986020499840","authorId":"4087986020499840","name":"BerryNat","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27333e490249edd9b1054f0311c8584c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087986020499840","authorIdStr":"4087986020499840"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like Here is what invest","content":"
On December 16, Rivian RIVN will announce its first earnings since going public. Here is what investors should look for heading into this EV maker’s third-quarter earnings.
\n
Electric vehicle giant Rivian will report its earnings on December 16 for the first time since its massively hyped IPO in early November.
\n
Rivian's phenomenal debut rally has led the EV maker to achieve a larger market capitalization than traditional American automaker giants such as General Motors and Ford, even though the company hasn't reported any revenue yet.
\n
Figure 1: Rivian's R1T pickup truck on RIVN stock IPO.
\n
From a fundamentals perspective, Rivian has a big challenge ahead in proving that it deserves to be valued as a $100 billion company. But do fundamentals matter much in today’s highly speculative market?
\n
What to expect for Q3 earnings
\n
Rivian and other big EV names, even though they’re in the automotive industry, are listed as technology stocks. These companies see themselves as technological game-changers – members of a new transportation paradigm that’s free from fossil fuels.
\n
A growth-centric viewpoint goes partway to explaining why companies like Tesla and Rivian, even though they make far fewer vehicles per year than traditional automotive names like Ford and General Motors, have larger market capitalizations. The market is pricing in disruptive technologies that could, potentially, turn the entire automotive industry on its head.
\n
But from a purely fundamentals-based perspective, a $100 billion market cap is almost impossible to justify right now, and it may not even be justified several years down the road.
\n
Rivian has generated zero revenue so far and its actual production capacity is 150,000 units annually. If we assume production reaches peak capacity, Rivian's equity would currently be valued at about $675,000 per electric vehicle produced.
\n
Ford, by comparison, is valued at $20,470 per vehicle produced, considering its 2020 production output. The company also generated $127 billion in revenue during 2020.
\n
Since Rivian’s vehicles aren’t rolling into dealerships yet, sentiment on earnings day will be primarily (if not purely) speculative. Possible catalysts for movement including rising new orders, the launching of new technologies, or the announcement of another major partnership.
\n
Therefore, even without sales yet, there are plenty of reasons Rivian’s stock could rally to record gains.
\n
Puts or calls? Or maybe both?
\n
Traders willing to join in on Rivian’s “earnings play” may find options to be the best move. Given the high speculation surrounding Rivian, it’s likely that this EV makers’ stock will either jump or plummet post-earnings. A long straddle strategy could see solid gains if this indeed turns out to be the case.
\n
A long straddle strategy involves buying both a call and a put option for the same underlying stock and for the same expiry date. Long straddles will come out ahead as long as there’s a significant move in the price of the underlying stock – the direction of the move doesn’t matter. Such strategies are often used in the context of high-volatility earnings bets.
\n
Of course, a long straddle doesn’t guarantee outrageous profits. Rivian’s post-earnings share price could move far less than anticipated, meaning that the calls and puts could all expire worthless. Also, heavy options buying in anticipation of RIVN’s Q3 earnings could drive up the price of both puts and calls, eating away at potential profit from the trade.
\n
Should investors buy Rivian ahead of earnings?
\n
According to Wall Street experts, Rivian stock is a “moderate buy” ahead of earnings — the consensus suggests that, despite its sky-high market cap, Rivian stock is still undervalued. The current average price target for the company is $135, which implies a 16% upside.
\n
The most bullish rating comes from Bank of America Securities analyst John Murphy, who sees 46% upside ahead for the stock, forecasting a $170 price target. Murphy sees Rivian standing out among other electric vehicle manufacturers with its “extremely comprehensive and well-constructed business strategy, in addition to solid/innovative technology and interesting/attractive product, validated by a key anchor customer (Amazon.com),”.
\n
Baird’s George Gianarikas thinks Rivian is the only EV maker that can truly compete with Tesla. The analyst sees Rivian’s promising approach to the EV market, its robust balance sheet, and its partnership with Amazon as being catalysts for its share price reaching $150 in the next twelve months.
\n
But not everyone on the Street is bullish on RIVN. Here is what investors should look for heading into this EV maker’s third-quarter earnings.\nElectric vehicle giant Rivian will report its earnings on December 16 for the first time since its massively hyped IPO in early November.\nRivian's phenomenal debut rally has led the EV maker to achieve a larger market capitalization than traditional American automaker giants such as General Motors and Ford, even though the company hasn't reported any revenue yet.\nFigure 1: Rivian's R1T pickup truck on RIVN stock IPO.\nFrom a fundamentals perspective, Rivian has a big challenge ahead in proving that it deserves to be valued as a $100 billion company. But do fundamentals matter much in today’s highly speculative market?\nWhat to expect for Q3 earnings\nRivian and other big EV names, even though they’re in the automotive industry, are listed as technology stocks. These companies see themselves as technological game-changers – members of a new transportation paradigm that’s free from fossil fuels.\nA growth-centric viewpoint goes partway to explaining why companies like Tesla and Rivian, even though they make far fewer vehicles per year than traditional automotive names like Ford and General Motors, have larger market capitalizations. The market is pricing in disruptive technologies that could, potentially, turn the entire automotive industry on its head.\nBut from a purely fundamentals-based perspective, a $100 billion market cap is almost impossible to justify right now, and it may not even be justified several years down the road.\nRivian has generated zero revenue so far and its actual production capacity is 150,000 units annually. If we assume production reaches peak capacity, Rivian's equity would currently be valued at about $675,000 per electric vehicle produced.\nFord, by comparison, is valued at $20,470 per vehicle produced, considering its 2020 production output. The company also generated $127 billion in revenue during 2020.\nSince Rivian’s vehicles aren’t rolling into dealerships yet, sentiment on earnings day will be primarily (if not purely) speculative. Possible catalysts for movement including rising new orders, the launching of new technologies, or the announcement of another major partnership.\nTherefore, even without sales yet, there are plenty of reasons Rivian’s stock could rally to record gains.\nPuts or calls? Or maybe both?\nTraders willing to join in on Rivian’s “earnings play” may find options to be the best move. Given the high speculation surrounding Rivian, it’s likely that this EV makers’ stock will either jump or plummet post-earnings. A long straddle strategy could see solid gains if this indeed turns out to be the case.\nA long straddle strategy involves buying both a call and a put option for the same underlying stock and for the same expiry date. Long straddles will come out ahead as long as there’s a significant move in the price of the underlying stock – the direction of the move doesn’t matter. Such strategies are often used in the context of high-volatility earnings bets.\nOf course, a long straddle doesn’t guarantee outrageous profits. Rivian’s post-earnings share price could move far less than anticipated, meaning that the calls and puts could all expire worthless. Also, heavy options buying in anticipation of RIVN’s Q3 earnings could drive up the price of both puts and calls, eating away at potential profit from the trade.\nShould investors buy Rivian ahead of earnings?\nAccording to Wall Street experts, Rivian stock is a “moderate buy” ahead of earnings — the consensus suggests that, despite its sky-high market cap, Rivian stock is still undervalued. The current average price target for the company is $135, which implies a 16% upside.\nThe most bullish rating comes from Bank of America Securities analyst John Murphy, who sees 46% upside ahead for the stock, forecasting a $170 price target. Murphy sees Rivian standing out among other electric vehicle manufacturers with its “extremely comprehensive and well-constructed business strategy, in addition to solid/innovative technology and interesting/attractive product, validated by a key anchor customer (Amazon.com),”.\nBaird’s George Gianarikas thinks Rivian is the only EV maker that can truly compete with Tesla. The analyst sees Rivian’s promising approach to the EV market, its robust balance sheet, and its partnership with Amazon as being catalysts for its share price reaching $150 in the next twelve months.\nBut not everyone on the Street is bullish on RIVN. Goldman Sach sanalyst Mark Delainey is skeptical, with a neutral rating on Rivian and a $94 price target, implying a nearly 19% downside. Even though he finds Rivian’s product set attractive and sees the company’s brand presence as growing, Delainey believes that historical automotive industry data show how hard it is for newcomers to scale – even if those newcomers are EV manufacturers. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.\nFord, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.\n\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.\nRivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.\n\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.\nRivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":711,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":876163974,"gmtCreate":1637283164051,"gmtModify":1637283264135,"author":{"id":"4087986020499840","authorId":"4087986020499840","name":"BerryNat","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27333e490249edd9b1054f0311c8584c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087986020499840","authorIdStr":"4087986020499840"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hope it goes up, how can an Amazon backed company do badly? In a race to disrupt residential real estate, one of the largest markets in the world, Opendoor's long-term potential could bring big returns for patient investors.
\n
Despite the upside, the market hasn't yet appreciated Opendoor's accomplishments; the stock is down more than 50% from its highs. There are three important clues that Opendoor could be a compelling investment idea for bold investors.
\n
1. Opendoor is winning the iBuying battle
\n
The traditional home-buying process in the United States is slow and handled by multiple parties, including agents, lawyers, inspectors, and bankers. This creates a lot of back and forth paperwork and drags the process out to more than 30 days, on average.
\n
Opendoor pioneered the concept of \"iBuying,\" where the buying and selling of a house are digitized, and a company like Opendoor works directly with sellers to provide them with a cash offer and a digital closing process. The company then resells the house on the market. The iBuying process cuts out agents and some of the fees associated with traditional closings, such as agent commissions. Opendoor then resells the house on the market and charges a service fee of up to 5% on the transaction.
\n
After seeing Opendoor steadily grow with its iBuying concept, competitors have also begun to offer iBuying services, including Zillow Group and Offerpad. Because of how capital intensive the business is (a lot of money is needed to buy and sell thousands of houses) and how price competitive the housing market is, these companies are racing to get as big as possible. As the companies buy and sell more homes, they have the ability to become more profitable by leveraging outsourced contractors to save money, and its pricing algorithm improves as it sees more transactions.
\n
According to iBuyerStats, a website dedicated to tracking the competitors found in iBuying, Opendoor has consistently had the most housing inventory available for sale. It currently has roughly 3,300 houses for sale, 53% more than Zillow and more than four times as many as Offerpad.
\n
2. Revenue growth is ahead of schedule
\n
When companies go public viaSPACmerger, they lay out a public presentation of their business, often including long-term growth projections. Opendoor laid out its pre-merger investor presentation about a year ago, in September 2020.
\n
Fast forward to the company's recent 2021 Q2 earnings call. CEO and founder Eric Wu said on the earnings call, \"... based on our current progress, our second half revenue run rate is on track to exceed our 2023 target, a full two years ahead of plan.\"
\n
In other words, if Opendoor were to operate for 12 months at the level the business currently is, it would surpass the $9.8 billion in revenue it projected for 2023. This is an underlooked point because if Opendoor is already two years ahead of its original growth curve, where will it be by 2023? Sure, a dip in the housing market or other events could disrupt the company's speed of growth, but Opendoor is showing the world that the business is operating at a high level.
\n
3. SPACs are out of favor with the market... opportunity?
\n
Investors have overlooked this strong performance, focusing instead on the fact that Opendoor joined the public market via SPAC merger. It has hardly mattered what operating results or earnings have looked like for former SPACs; the stock market has been selling off virtually all SPAC-based stocks for several months now.
\n
Investors have been spooked by a handful of \"bad apple\" companies turning up fraudulent, and other companies have wildly missed on the projections they made before going public. These instances have burned those involved, and investors have taken a much more cautious attitude toward SPACs as a whole.
\n
But if companies like Opendoor keep blowing away estimates, the market is likely to come around eventually. When it does, the stock price could move aggressively. If we take Eric Wu's comments about revenue and assume that Opendoor does sales of $10 billion in 2022 (in other words, Opendoor stops growing and maintains its current pace over the following year), the stock currently trades at aprice-to-sales(P/S) ratio of just 1.0. That's a bargain-bin valuation.
\n
Competitor Zillow Group trades at a P/S ratio of more than 3, reflecting Opendoor's discount as a former SPAC.
\n
Here's the bottom line
\n
Real estate is a huge market, and it's a complicated industry because of the clash between traditional agents and the \"new kids\" on the block trying to bring technology into homebuying. It's too early to say that Opendoor will become the \"Amazon\" of home buying, but what seems certain is that the company is poised to be a big player in real estate's future if it keeps performing like this.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
This Unloved Tech Stock Could Make You Rich One Day
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThis Unloved Tech Stock Could Make You Rich One Day\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-29 09:41 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Key Points\n\nThe iBuying business is a race to grow larger, and Opendoor is winning.\nThe company is growing at a rate that is two years ahead of what management projected just a year earlier.\nThe ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"OPEN":"Opendoor Technologies Inc"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/08/28/this-unloved-tech-stock-may-make-you-rich-one-day/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1129129956","content_text":"Key Points\n\nThe iBuying business is a race to grow larger, and Opendoor is winning.\nThe company is growing at a rate that is two years ahead of what management projected just a year earlier.\nThe market is bearish on virtually all SPACs, making Opendoor a bargain that could eventually bring huge returns.\n\n\nReal estate iBuying company Opendoor Technologies(NASDAQ:OPEN)has been executing at a high level in the three quarters since coming public via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger. In a race to disrupt residential real estate, one of the largest markets in the world, Opendoor's long-term potential could bring big returns for patient investors.\nDespite the upside, the market hasn't yet appreciated Opendoor's accomplishments; the stock is down more than 50% from its highs. There are three important clues that Opendoor could be a compelling investment idea for bold investors.\n1. Opendoor is winning the iBuying battle\nThe traditional home-buying process in the United States is slow and handled by multiple parties, including agents, lawyers, inspectors, and bankers. This creates a lot of back and forth paperwork and drags the process out to more than 30 days, on average.\nOpendoor pioneered the concept of \"iBuying,\" where the buying and selling of a house are digitized, and a company like Opendoor works directly with sellers to provide them with a cash offer and a digital closing process. The company then resells the house on the market. The iBuying process cuts out agents and some of the fees associated with traditional closings, such as agent commissions. Opendoor then resells the house on the market and charges a service fee of up to 5% on the transaction.\nAfter seeing Opendoor steadily grow with its iBuying concept, competitors have also begun to offer iBuying services, including Zillow Group and Offerpad. Because of how capital intensive the business is (a lot of money is needed to buy and sell thousands of houses) and how price competitive the housing market is, these companies are racing to get as big as possible. It ended the week at 1.43% on Friday, down almost 17% over the past three months. The drop has been benefitting growth stocks, particularly Big Tech.\nBut Harvey warns a significant reversal is virtually unavoidable, citing the fundamental economic backdrop. Rising rates will set the stage for a double-digit pullback in momentum growth stocks. He predicts it could happen later this summer or early fall.\n\"The tech companies and the growth companies that are selling at very high multiples,\" he noted. \"Even though they have high growth rates, the high multiples are what's going to do them in.\"\nHarvey called the March rebound in Big Tech a \"head fake\" on\"Trading Nation\" in late April.
