Expect a blowout.
\n
For the June quarter, the tech giant has projected sales of $110 billion to $116 billion, with operating income in the $4.5 billion-to-$8 billion range. Wall Street consensus calls for sales of $115.4 billion, operating income of $7.8 billion, and earnings of $12.28 a share.
\n
There are several reasons why the Street numbers might be too low.
\n
For one, Amazon (ticker: AMZN) has beat expectations in every quarter since the start of the pandemic—in fact, for 10 quarters in a row.
\n
Another is that Amazon’s competitors have already reported solid numbers.Shopify(SHOP), arguably one of the company’s most important rivals in e-commerce,posted better-than-expected results for the June quarter, noting that sustained digital commerce trends and U.S. stimulus checks in March and April drove revenues above expectations. Strong reports from Alphabet,Snap and Twitter suggest Amazon will post accelerating growth in its underappreciated advertising business. And the strength in the cloud business at Microsoft bodes well for Amazon Web Services.
\n
Street estimates call for Amazon to post $57.3 billion in online sales, up 25%; $24.8 billion in third-party sellers services, up 36%; $14.3 billion from AWS, up 32%; $7.9 billion in subscription services, up 36%; $7 billion in “other” revenue, which is mostly advertising, up 66%; and $3.9 billion in physical stores revenue, up 3%.
\n
Plus, there are a couple of other factors at play. This will be the first quarter for Amazon since Jeff Bezos turned over the CEO reins to Andy Jassy. Bezos didn’t typically participate in the company’s quarterly earnings calls with analysts, leaving that job to CFO Brian OIsavky; it remains to be seen if Jassy will make an appearance this year. Also, Amazon finds itself at the heart of the debate—in Washington and elsewhere—over the power of tech companies, and now faces an in-depth investigation by the Federal Trade Commission over its proposed acquisition of the film studio MGM.Amazon has requested that FTC Chair Lina Khan recuse herself from any matters involving Amazon given her past criticisms of the company.
\n

\n
Investors also will be watching for clues on how the company expects the pandemic and a return to a more normal economy will impact results for the rest of the year. Street estimates for the September quarter call for revenue of $118.6 billion and profits of $12.97 a share.
\n
In a research note, MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni points out that Amazon has underperformed both Alphabet and Facebook shares this year. He thinks the stock has been weighed down by ongoing debate about the true strength of this year’s Prime Day sales event, as well as ongoing questions about the outlook for e-commerce as supplemental U.S. unemployment benefits lapse in September. Nonetheless, Kulkarni thinks that advertising, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and AWS will together drive upside to both second-quarter results and guidance, and he continues to consider Amazon his best pick among the big internet stocks. Kulkarni keeps his Buy rating and $4,075 target price.
\n
Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney maintains an Outperform rating and $4,500 target price. He thinks Street estimates for the second quarter “look largely reasonable,” although he has some concerns that the Street might be too bullish on the third quarter, in particular given Prime Day this year shifted into the second quarter.
\n
Monness Crespi White analyst Brian White notes that Amazon shares have been “range bound” over the past few months, but he thinks the company is “uniquely positioned” to exit the pandemic as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the digital transformation trend. White asserts that “the company’s growth path is very attractive across the e-commerce segment, AWS, digital media, advertising, Alexa and more.” White maintains his Buy rating and $4,500 target price.
\n
On Wednesday, Amazon shares were up 0.1%, to $3,630.32.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Amazon Reports Earnings Thursday. Kulkarni keeps his Buy rating and $4,075 target price.\nEvercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney maintains an Outperform rating and $4,500 target price. He thinks Street estimates for the second quarter “look largely reasonable,” although he has some concerns that the Street might be too bullish on the third quarter, in particular given Prime Day this year shifted into the second quarter.\nMonness Crespi White analyst Brian White notes that Amazon shares have been “range bound” over the past few months, but he thinks the company is “uniquely positioned” to exit the pandemic as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the digital transformation trend. White asserts that “the company’s growth path is very attractive across the e-commerce segment, AWS, digital media, advertising, Alexa and more.” White maintains his Buy rating and $4,500 target price.\nOn Wednesday, Amazon shares were up 0.1%, to $3,630.32.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":257,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":801892596,"gmtCreate":1627499094815,"gmtModify":1633764447346,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3583283098562657","authorIdStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmmm","listText":"Hmmm","text":"Hmmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/801892596","repostId":"2154760924","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2154760924","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1627486053,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2154760924?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-28 23:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Cathie Wood Goes Bargain Hunting: 3 Stocks She Just Bought","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2154760924","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Growth stocks are moving, and the popular ETF money manager is making moves. 27 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc will stop allowing advertisers to target people under 18 on its pla","content":"
July 27 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc will stop allowing advertisers to target people under 18 on its platforms based on their interests or their activity on other sites, it said on Tuesday in a slew of announcements about young users.
\n
The change means advertisers will soon be able to target under-18s only by age, gender or location on Facebook, its Messenger service and its photo-sharing platform Instagram. In a blog post, Instagram said it was making the change because it agreed with youth advocates that young people might not be equipped to make decisions about targeting.
\n
Instagram users under 16 years old will also start to be defaulted into having a private account when they join the platform, the company said, in an effort to stop unwanted contact from adults. They will still be given the option, however, to switch to a public account and current users can keep their account as public.
\n
Facebook's approach to younger users has been in the spotlight after U.S. lawmakers and attorneys general slammed its leaked plans to launch a version of Instagram for children under 13. The ugly reality is that the next stock market crash is inevitable -- the only real question is when that crash will happen.
\n
Fortunately, market crashes are nothing new. Their history provides a great guide on how to not just survive the next one but also thrive when it comes time to emerge from the other side of it. The key is to get prepared before the crash so that when it comes, you have the tools you need already available to you. These four ways can help you be ready in advance.
\n
\n
No. 1: Raise the cash you need before the crash happens
\n
With even top-rated savings accounts yielding well below inflation , it's really hard to hold a substantial amount of cash right now. Still, by making sure you have cash available before the next crash, you set yourself up to be much better situated after the crash happens.
\n
There are a couple of key reasons for this. First, stock market crashes and job losses often go hand in hand with each other. If you lose your job after the market crashes, having a cash reserve can go a long way toward keeping you from having to sell near market lows.
\n
Second, if you have cash available, buying stocks after they've crashed is a great way to make your money work harder for you. Selling one cheap stock after a crash to buy another doesn't make all that much sense, but raising cash when stocks are pricy to invest when they're cheap can be a much smarter wealth building strategy.
\n
The key trade-off, of course, is that money you have set aside in cash isn't earning much in the way of a return at the moment, especially when compared to inflation. A good rule of thumb is that you need at least a 3-6 month emergency fund in cash. In addition, having around 5 or so years' worth of expenses you need your portfolio to cover in a less volatile and higher certainty investment than stocks can help you ride out typical downturns.
\n
No. 2: Know the value of what you own
\n
Ultimately, a share of stock is nothing more than a fractional ownership stake in a business. A reasonable value can be estimated for most companies by using techniques like the discounted cash flow model to assess the current value of its expected future earnings stream. In a rapidly rising market, relying on valuations can seem old school, but when the market is crashing, valuation plays a much bigger role.
\n
A key reason is this: if you can buy a company for a reasonable or even cheap price based on its ability to generate cold hard cash, why would you sell just because the market is panicking? Indeed, a discounted cash flow analysis or other fundamentals-based valuation technique can help the savviest investors know why it's OK to buy more shares even as the market is collapsing.
\n
Beyond that, understanding what a company is really worth can help you prepare for a crash. If a stock you own has risen to the point where there is absolutely no financial justification for its market price, it might be a good candidate to sell to raise the cash you need.
\n
No. 3: Have a shopping list of companies you want to buy
\n
Even the best investors can feel overwhelmed as the market moves swiftly and strongly against them. That's where having a plan for what you'd like to buy -- and at what price -- can come in handy. With a list of great companies and a reasonable valuation estimate for each of them, a market crash can turn into an incredible buying opportunity to buy their stocks while they're on sale.
\n
Of course, you do need to keep in mind that the market often has a good reason for crashing in the first place. As a result, when the market offers you what looks like a great price to buy a company you're interested in owning, do take a moment to refresh your estimate of the company's value before buying. If the company's shares tanked because its business is failing, it's probably not worth owning. If its stock was unfairly discarded in a general market panic, however, it could be a great time to buy in big.
\n
No. 4: Keep smartly diversified
\n
Often, when the overall market crashes, it's because an entire industry finds itself in trouble. For instance, consider the dot.com implosion in 2000 or the financial crisis in 2008. If a big chunk of your money is chasing the next hot thing and that particular thing is what drives the next market crash, then you can be in a world of hurt. If the companies you own wind up out of business, then their shares -- and the money you have invested in them -- won't be participating in any rally that follows.
\n
When times are good, portfolio diversification may seem like a fairly meaningless exercise. After all, it can't help you earn better returns in a raging bull market. When the market is in a panic, however, there is incredible value in its ability to limit the impact that any one company or industry's failing will have on your overall net worth. After all, limiting the unrecoverable damage of a crash is key to being able to participate in any subsequent recovery.
\n
You can make it through the next crash
\n
Stock market crashes are inevitable. There's not much you can do to avoid them aside from not investing at all, and that can be incredibly hazardous to your long term net worth. With these four approaches, you can improve your odds of making it through the next crash intact and potentially even emerging in a better position once it ends.
\n
The key thing to note about these techniques, though, is that they work better if you get them in place before the next crash happens. So if you're really worried about a market crash, then there's no better than when the market is near an all-time high to get your plans in place.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Worried About a Stock Market Crash? 4 Ways to Be Ready
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWorried About a Stock Market Crash? 4 Ways to Be Ready\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-26 17:50 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Given worries of a resurging COVID-19 threat, rising inflation, and stretched valuations have combined to make investors nervous about the stock market. When the market is in a panic, however, there is incredible value in its ability to limit the impact that any one company or industry's failing will have on your overall net worth. After all, limiting the unrecoverable damage of a crash is key to being able to participate in any subsequent recovery.\nYou can make it through the next crash\nStock market crashes are inevitable. There's not much you can do to avoid them aside from not investing at all, and that can be incredibly hazardous to your long term net worth. With these four approaches, you can improve your odds of making it through the next crash intact and potentially even emerging in a better position once it ends.\nThe key thing to note about these techniques, though, is that they work better if you get them in place before the next crash happens. So if you're really worried about a market crash, then there's no better than when the market is near an all-time high to get your plans in place.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":169,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":800716946,"gmtCreate":1627318811385,"gmtModify":1633766156587,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3583283098562657","authorIdStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy buy buy","listText":"Buy buy buy","text":"Buy buy buy","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b2d74f8f5db0c302407788543ce0e3bf","width":"1080","height":"3710"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/800716946","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":73,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":800718922,"gmtCreate":1627318710066,"gmtModify":1633766157501,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3583283098562657","authorIdStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$let's go","listText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$let's go","text":"$Alibaba(BABA)$let's go","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/29efa9b335a884f510e9d217cdb35130","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/800718922","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179616121,"gmtCreate":1626516429563,"gmtModify":1631888612179,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3583283098562657","authorIdStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","listText":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","text":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45e9e02312e5e4fb1d1d3db6378d362a","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/179616121","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":200,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179618039,"gmtCreate":1626516152721,"gmtModify":1633926094875,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3583283098562657","authorIdStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"180! Not long ago, the talk on Wall Street was all about the tech giant’s uncharacteristically underperforming stock, especially when compared to some of the other mega-caps’ displays in 2021.\nWith shares hitting an all-time high this week and the gap in performance narrowing over the past month, that conversation can now be put to rest.\nThe uptick has coincided with reports Apple has boosted the production rate of its iPhones, instructing manufacturers to build 90 million iPhones this year, a 20% increase on the 75 million units it produced last year.\nThe renewed optimism in all things Apple is not surprising to J.P. Morgan’s Samik Chatterjee. The analyst recently told investors Apple is well set up to outperform in 2H21. In fact, the growing confidence means Chatterjee has added Apple to the firm’s Analyst Focus List as “a Growth idea.”\n“The recent momentum led by better market share, drives us to also estimate higher sustainable volumes in future quarters, leading us to see a path to Apple outperforming investor expectations over a longer time horizon rather than just the upcoming earnings print,” the 5-star analyst said, confirming Apple is also a Top Pick.\nTo reflect the increase in build rates, Chatterjee has “modestly” increased iPhone volume expectations, but of more importance to the analyst is the “path to upside” for the shares in the medium-term.\nThis is because of the potential for better iPhone 12 sales but also due to what Chatterjee considers are low expectations from the iPhone 13’s fall launch, which could create “another leg to the upside opportunity.”\nIt’s a potent mix which is given additional allure with the launch of the iPhone SE3 next year and means Apple can “not only pleasantly surprise with a more robust iPhone 13 cycle, but also has the opportunity to drive material upside to consensus expectations for FY22.”\nTo this end, Chatterjee rates Apple shares an Overweight (i.e. Buy), while slightly lifting the price target from $170 to $175. The revised figure implying shares will add 19.5% from current levels.\nSo, that’s J.P. Morgan’s view, what does the rest of the Street have in mind for Apple? Based on 20 Buys, 5 Holds and 2 Sells, the stock currently has a Moderate Buy consensus rating. The forecast is for shares to appreciate by 8% over the coming months, given the average price target clocks in at $158.62.\nTo find good ideas for tech stocks trading at attractive valuations, visit company following a disappointing analyst day event.
\n
Coupa hosted a virtual analyst day on Thursday, when the platform provider shared additional detail about its Coupa Pay service, and also provided an update on its longer-term prospects.
\n
Analysts honed in on the more conservative outlook provided by Coupa's management team as the likely reason behind Thursday's selloff, though were generally sanguine about the company's longer-term prospects, with Piper Sandler one of the the few Wall Street investment firms to lower its one-year price target.
\n
Piper Sandler analysts also focused on lack of progress with Coupa Pay, noting that “… considering the necessary conservatism that is needed to continue the well-known beat and raise cadence, the set-up was always less than ideal.” They held their overweight rating on the stock though lowered their price target to $295 from $300.
\n
Truist Securities was slightly more upbeat, though admitted investors “could have been disappointed by either what they heard from an attach rate perspective on Coupa Pay or potentially were disappointed that it’s likely a multi-year time line before Coupa Pay really moves the needle.” They held their buy rating and price target of $326.
\n
Barclays analysts noted that while Coupa couldn’t meet “the very high expectations from the Street” for its Coupa Pay service it is maintaining its positive outlook. The investment bank held its equal weight rating on the shares and one-year price target of $250.
\n
Coupa shares plunged last monthafter the companyprovided a tepid forecastthat raised questions about its pace of billings growth. A number of analysts cut their price targets on the San Mateo, Calif., based company at the time, even after it reported a surprise profit and better-than-expected revenue forecasts.
\n
At last check, Coupa shares were down 2.24% at $221.04. The stock has fallen 32.7% year to date.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Coupa Shares Extend Losses After Post-Analyst Day Selloff
\n\na,abbr,acronym,address,applet,article,aside,audio,b,big,blockquote,body,canvas,caption,center,cite,code,dd,del,details,dfn,div,dl,dt,\nem,embed,fieldset,figcaption,figure,footer,form,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,header,hgroup,html,i,iframe,img,ins,kbd,label,legend,li,mark,menu,nav,\nobject,ol,output,p,pre,q,ruby,s,samp,section,small,span,strike,strong,sub,summary,sup,table,tbody,td,tfoot,th,thead,time,tr,tt,u,ul,var,video{ font:inherit;margin:0;padding:0;vertical-align:baseline;border:0 }\nbody{ font-size:16px; Just five U.S.-listed companies have reached the $1 trillion mark—or 0.08% of the total number of stocks currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. That’s roughly the odds of a high school basketball player making the National Basketball Association. It’s an elite club.
\n
Now that Facebook (ticker: FB) has earned access—its market cap was down slightly by the end of the week, to $980 billion—we might be waiting a while for the next entrant. That’s partly because the federal government wants to rein in big business, but also because the current trillion-dollar members have a natural incentive to keep the club small.
\n
There’s a big drop-off to the next candidate for membership—call it the Trillion-Dollar Cliff. Among U.S.-listed companies,Tesla(TSLA) is next up, with a market value of $629 billion, followed by Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.A),Alibaba Group Holding(BABA),Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM), and Visa(V).
\n
We’ve covered all of those stocks closely at Barron’s, and I’ve spent the past few weeks talking to colleagues about which company might be next. I’ve also queried sources and polled readers of our daily Review & Preview newsletter.
\n
A few names get repeated mentions: Tesla,Nvidia(NVDA), Visa, and JPMorgan Chase(JPM), each of which are worth at least $400 billion.Shopify(SHOP) got a less obvious mention. The company is way down the market-value rank at $182 billion. It has become something of the anti-Amazon,providing bricks-and-mortar vendors and other businesses with easy e-commerce tools. While Amazon.com(AMZN) seeks to fend off regulation and a potential breakup, Shopify can keep its head down and continue to recruit new business.
\n
I’ll place my bets on Visa getting to $1 trillion next, even if it takes a while. The company is closely tied to the economic recovery, since it gets a cut of transactions that run through its global electronic-payments network.
\n
The business, which is part tech and part financial services, has a long tailwind as cash usage declines around the world. Visa shares have returned an annualized 28% over the past decade. If that pattern holds, Visa would reach $1 trillion by 2024.
\n
While the next trillion-dollar stock is clearly a guessing game, one thing is clear: Large numbers have been no impediment to future gains.Apple(AAPL) has returned an annualized 44% since it became the first U.S.-listed company to reach a $1 trillion value in August 2018. The stock closed at a record this past week, giving it a market value of $2.4 trillion.
\n

\n
I asked Denise Chisholm, Fidelity’s sector strategist, if the so-called law of large numbers would ever kick in. “Size is not particularly predictive one way or the other,” she says. “The S&P information technology, as a percent of overall S&P, is now in excess of 20%. Does that have any meaning on whether or not that group or that sector can outperform in the future? The answer really is no.”
\n
Right now, the trillion-dollar members have momentum on their side. “A ball in motion tends to stay in motion,” she says.
\n
Tech’s secret sauce has been continuously expanding profit margins, with valuations that are essentially in line with their historic norms. Just five U.S.-listed companies have reached the $1 trillion mark—or 0.08% of the total number of stocks currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. That’s roughly the odds of a high school basketball player making the National Basketball Association. It’s an elite club.\nNow that Facebook (ticker: FB) has earned access—its market cap was down slightly by the end of the week, to $980 billion—we might be waiting a while for the next entrant. That’s partly because the federal government wants to rein in big business, but also because the current trillion-dollar members have a natural incentive to keep the club small.\nThere’s a big drop-off to the next candidate for membership—call it the Trillion-Dollar Cliff. Among U.S.-listed companies,Tesla(TSLA) is next up, with a market value of $629 billion, followed by Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.A),Alibaba Group Holding(BABA),Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM), and Visa(V).\nWe’ve covered all of those stocks closely at Barron’s, and I’ve spent the past few weeks talking to colleagues about which company might be next. I’ve also queried sources and polled readers of our daily Review & Preview newsletter.\nA few names get repeated mentions: Tesla,Nvidia(NVDA), Visa, and JPMorgan Chase(JPM), each of which are worth at least $400 billion.Shopify(SHOP) got a less obvious mention. The company is way down the market-value rank at $182 billion. It has become something of the anti-Amazon,providing bricks-and-mortar vendors and other businesses with easy e-commerce tools. While Amazon.com(AMZN) seeks to fend off regulation and a potential breakup, Shopify can keep its head down and continue to recruit new business.\nI’ll place my bets on Visa getting to $1 trillion next, even if it takes a while. The company is closely tied to the economic recovery, since it gets a cut of transactions that run through its global electronic-payments network.\nThe business, which is part tech and part financial services, has a long tailwind as cash usage declines around the world. Visa shares have returned an annualized 28% over the past decade. If that pattern holds, Visa would reach $1 trillion by 2024.\nWhile the next trillion-dollar stock is clearly a guessing game, one thing is clear: Large numbers have been no impediment to future gains.Apple(AAPL) has returned an annualized 44% since it became the first U.S.-listed company to reach a $1 trillion value in August 2018. The stock closed at a record this past week, giving it a market value of $2.4 trillion.\n\nI asked Denise Chisholm, Fidelity’s sector strategist, if the so-called law of large numbers would ever kick in. “Size is not particularly predictive one way or the other,” she says. “The S&P information technology, as a percent of overall S&P, is now in excess of 20%. Does that have any meaning on whether or not that group or that sector can outperform in the future? The answer really is no.”\nRight now, the trillion-dollar members have momentum on their side. “A ball in motion tends to stay in motion,” she says.\nTech’s secret sauce has been continuously expanding profit margins, with valuations that are essentially in line with their historic norms. Operating margins for the S&P 500’s information technology sector have doubled in the past 15 years, to a recent 21%, according to Yardeni Research, while overall S&P 500 margins have been static at 10% or so (excluding a collapse during the financial crisis).\nTech’s magic—and those trillion-dollar club passes—are now hitting up against the increased likelihood of regulation. “The sheer fact of the headline of the trillion-dollar club is going to bring even more regulation,” says Jim Paulsen, chief investment officer of The Leuthold Group.\nOn Friday, the Biden administration signed an executive order that calls for a “whole-of-government effort to promote competition in the American economy.” The order, which consists of 72 initiatives, is simultaneously broad and narrow. It pushes against consolidation while also addressing consumer pain points, like early-termination fees for broadband services, hard-to-fix consumer devices, and airline baggage fees.\nBy now, the Biden administration recognizes that tech regulation isn’t a slam dunk with the public. Despite unease around data and privacy practices, less than half of U.S. adults are in favor of more tech regulation, according to a 2020 Pew Research poll.\nA room at the F8 Developers Conference in San Jose, Calif.\nPrivacy regulation is politically complicated, especially if it means reining in the advertising that enables free services like social media, internet search, and email. But there isn’t much controversial about limiting broadband charges or making it easier to fix a smartphone battery. The White House seems to be attacking companies where it hurts—their mixed record of customer service.\nFor now, investors continue to generally overlook regulation. All five members of the trillion-dollar club were either higher or flat on Friday in the wake of Biden’s executive order.\nIt’s time to take regulation more seriously, says Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research. “A trillion here, a trillion there attracts a lot of attention from politicians.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":191,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179616121,"gmtCreate":1626516429563,"gmtModify":1631888612179,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583283098562657","idStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","listText":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","text":"$Sprott Physical Silver Trust(PSLV)$will buy more on next week's update if go up or down","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45e9e02312e5e4fb1d1d3db6378d362a","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/179616121","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":200,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":142207949,"gmtCreate":1626150472781,"gmtModify":1633929609598,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583283098562657","idStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hold cash, wait for the dip... That compares to shockingly large estimated increases in industrial sector profits of more than 570%, and energy industry profits, up 220%. Earnings for the financial and materials sectors are expected to be up more than 100% each.\nThose huge gains and expected earnings beats should be a positive for some cyclical stocks this quarter. Earnings season kicks off Tuesday with reports fromJPMorgan Chase,Goldman Sachs,andPepsiCo.\nThis earnings season will be the period where the tug of war that’s been a factor in the stock market, between cyclical and growth trades, is due to play out very clearly in the earnings numbers. Inflationary pressures, negative for tech stock performance, are expected to help boost cyclical earnings growth in the rebound, as companies face rising input costs but also up their prices.\n“I think what you’re going to see is a very unusual kind of contradiction between the data and the narrative,” said Jonathan Golub, chief U.S. equity strategist at Credit Suisse. “What companies are going to say is they are facing shortages and rising input costs and other things which are constraints to their success. And then what you’re going to see is massive beats and the biggest portions coming from higher margins. They’re not going to try to reconcile it.”\nGolub expects companies to provide detail on rising costs and supply shortages but not as much information on how much they are raising prices or how broadly.\n“If you listen to what the CFOs are going to say, you’re going to think the earnings are terrible, but if you look at the results, they’re going to be magnificent,” he said.\nBut ultimately, it’s tech and growth that will prove to be the best performers profit-wise over the long haul. “Their own earnings revisions for themselves are still good. They’re not deteriorating. They’re solid. They’re not getting worse. They’re not accelerating in this ridiculous way. They’re on the same solid trajectory they’ve been on,” said Brian Rauscher, Fundstrat head of global portfolio strategy.\nRauscher expects the trend to revert back to tech as the better earnings performer in two quarters from now, when cyclical airline stocks or industrial stocks like Caterpillar will see earnings growth back in the single digits. “Tech will keep growing at 25%,” he said.\nHe says economic growth will have slowed to a more normalized and sustained pace. By then it will be more apparent whether inflation is temporary or not.\n“If they are unable to pass along price increases, it will hit the earnings,” he said.\nGolub points out that tech profits in last year’s second quarter actually increased by 3.3% from 2019, as cyclical earnings plunged 85% in the same period. The 2021 second quarter earnings growth estimate for tech is 34.2%, while some cyclical earnings will rebound by more than 570% just to get back to even with 2019.\n“It says one of these is a near term trade, and one of them is a long term trade,” said Golub. “Once the supply chain issues are gone, [cyclicals] are going to be unimpressive.”\nEven with the push pull of tech and growth versus cyclical trades, strategists say the earning season should be good for the stock market.\n“I think the numbers will be very good, and it’ll be supportive for markets,” said Rauscher. He said some investors may be concerned that a peak period of earnings this quarter will lead to a market decline but he doesn’t expect that to be the case.\n“Obviously, the numbers are going to be outsized because we have that weird comparison from last year. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.
\n
The handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.
\n
Wall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme
\n
Unfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"
\n
The bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.
\n
Prior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:
\n
\n
Nowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.
\n
Losing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.
\n
Contending with billions of dollars in additional debt.
\n
Carrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.
\n
Clearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., Walt Disney's Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for Black Widow).
\n
\n
To boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:
\n
\n
Shares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.
\n
Buying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.
\n
\n
It may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.
\n
This trio of stocks can go to the moon
\n
The good news is that there are companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.
\n
Sea Limited
\n
Don't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.
\n
For the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.
\n
Over the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.
\n
Thirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.
\n
Skillz
\n
Another high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ).
\n
Admittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.
\n
When the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.
\n
Skillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL). Football is the most popular sport by a long shot in the U.S. The expectation is that we'll see NFL-themed games and competitions hitting the platform by no later than 2022.
\n
Though Skillz is likely to lose money through 2022 as it beefs up marketing, its insane growth potential and potentially lucrative margins can't be overlooked.
\n
Trulieve Cannabis
\n
A final stock that can go to the moon is U.S. marijuana stock Trulieve Cannabis (OTC:TCNNF). According to New Frontier Data, the U.S. pot industry could be generating north of $41 billion in annual sales by 2025.
\n
Whereas most U.S. multistate operators are angling to have a presence in as many legalized markets as possible, Trulieve has taken on a strategy that looked odd at first, but has paid off incredibly well. Of the 91 dispensaries it had open in early July, 85 of them were located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. By absolutely saturating the Sunshine State, Trulieve has effectively gobbled up around half of all dried cannabis flower and oils market share. At the same time, its marketing costs have been kept low, pushing the company to 13 consecutive quarters of profitability.
\n
But make no mistake about it, Trulieve does have aspirations of moving beyond Florida. For instance, it recently announced the largest U.S. cannabis acquisition in history -- a $2.1 billion all-stock deal to acquire multistate operator Harvest Health & Recreation (OTC:HRVSF). Harvest has a focus on five states, one of which is Florida. Despite putting their money to work in equities for more than a century, retail investors moved stock prices like never before.\nThe handful of companies these retail folks have piled into have come to be known as the \"meme stocks\" -- essentially, companies valued more for the hype they create on social media than their operating performance. At the top of the list for most meme investors is movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC), which until this past week was the top-performing stock on a year-to-date basis.\nWall Street and investors are wising up to the AMC pump-and-dump scheme\nUnfortunately, AMC doesn't look as if it'll ever be \"going to the moon.\"\nThe bull thesis for AMC, which disregards virtually all concrete fundamental data, relies on social media hype, constant misinformation, and outright lies to fuel an artificially higher share price. The problem is that Wall Street and investors are wising up to the misinformation and deceptive tactics being employed by AMC's emotionally driven retail investors, known as apes, which has resulted in AMC's shares losing 42% since June 28, with a lot more downside to go.\nPrior to the pandemic, AMC was never worth more than $3.8 billion. Today, with vaccination rates on the rise, AMC is worth $17 billion and it's:\n\nNowhere near the peak sales produced before the pandemic.\nLosing money hand over fist, compared to being profitable prior to the pandemic.\nContending with billions of dollars in additional debt.\nCarrying around $473 million in deferred rental obligations, as of the end of March.\nClearly losing revenue to streaming competitors (e.g., Walt Disney's Disney+ garnering $60 million in debut weekend revenue for Black Widow).\n\nTo boot, virtually all claims made by apes to ignite a rally in AMC's share price can be easily proved as false or misleading. Consider the following as two good examples of ongoing mistruths designed to artificially inflate AMC's share price:\n\nShares sold short have declined from around 102 million at the end of May to about 75.5 million as of the end of June, according to official (not estimated) data. Apes claiming short interest is climbing or \"shorts haven't covered\" are flat out wrong. This also severely dents the idea that \"a short squeeze is coming,\" which you'll hear echoed daily on social media without any proof or basis.\nBuying and short-selling stock has no impact whatsoever on the performance of an underlying business. This disproves the idea that short-selling bankrupts companies (a core and blatantly incorrect thesis of apes), and it also demonstrates that apes didn't save AMC. The capital that saved AMC from immediate bankruptcy came from share sales and debt issuances in 2020 and early January. Operating performance, not buying and selling activity from investors, determines if a company is successful or fails.\n\nIt may be a choppy road lower, but make no mistake about it, the jig is up and we've entered the dump phase of the cycle.\nThis trio of stocks can go to the moon\nThe good news is that there are companies out there with tangible growth potential that really could go to the moon. If you allow your investment thesis to play out, all three of the following stocks can blast off.\nSea Limited\nDon't let anyone tell you large-cap stocks can't go to the moon. Despite its seemingly lofty $144 billion market cap, Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE) has three rapidly growing operating segments that could make investors rich.\nFor the moment, Sea is generating all of its positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its gaming division. The popularity of Sea's mobile games, coupled with the pandemic keeping more people in their homes, pushed the company's quarterly active users higher by 61% in the first quarter to 649 million. More importantly, 12.3% of these users were paying to play, which is considerably higher than the industry average.\nOver the long run, e-commerce platform Shopee is what'll generate the most buzz. For example, the $12.6 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) that was purchased on Shopee in Q1 2021 handily surpasses total GMV from all of 2018. Shopee is the most downloaded shopping app in Southeast Asia, and it's quickly gaining traction in Brazil.\nThirdly, Sea has a relatively nascent but fast-growing digital financial services segment. When the first quarter came to a close, it had more than 26 million paying mobile wallet customers. Since many of the emerging markets Sea operates in are somewhat underbanked, this digital financial services division could be a sneaky long-term growth driver.\nSkillz\nAnother high-growth stock that could eventually go to the moon is esports and gaming company Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ).\nAdmittedly, gaming is a highly competitive industry. Developing new games is a time-consuming and costly process, and there's no guarantee that a new game will be well-received. It's for all of these reasons that Skillz didn't go the traditional development route. Rather, it operates a gaming platform that allows players to compete against each other for cash prizes. Maintaining this platform doesn't cost an arm and a leg (gross margin has consistently been 95%), and both Skillz and gaming developers get to keep a cut of the cash prizes.\nWhen the first quarter came to a close, Skillz had approximately 467,000 monthly active users (MAUs) that were paying to pay on its platform. That's 17% of its MAU base. According to Wappier Gaming Apps, the conversion rate for paying gamers ranged from 1.6% to 2% in 2020. In other words, Skillz is converting casual gamers to paying members at a considerably higher rate than other gaming companies.\nSkillz also has an incredibly lucrative partnership in its back pocket. In February, it signed a multiyear agreement with the National Football League (NFL). Football is the most popular sport by a long shot in the U.S. The expectation is that we'll see NFL-themed games and competitions hitting the platform by no later than 2022.\nThough Skillz is likely to lose money through 2022 as it beefs up marketing, its insane growth potential and potentially lucrative margins can't be overlooked.\nTrulieve Cannabis\nA final stock that can go to the moon is U.S. marijuana stock Trulieve Cannabis (OTC:TCNNF). According to New Frontier Data, the U.S. pot industry could be generating north of $41 billion in annual sales by 2025.\nWhereas most U.S. multistate operators are angling to have a presence in as many legalized markets as possible, Trulieve has taken on a strategy that looked odd at first, but has paid off incredibly well. Of the 91 dispensaries it had open in early July, 85 of them were located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. By absolutely saturating the Sunshine State, Trulieve has effectively gobbled up around half of all dried cannabis flower and oils market share. At the same time, its marketing costs have been kept low, pushing the company to 13 consecutive quarters of profitability.\nBut make no mistake about it, Trulieve does have aspirations of moving beyond Florida. For instance, it recently announced the largest U.S. cannabis acquisition in history -- a $2.1 billion all-stock deal to acquire multistate operator Harvest Health & Recreation (OTC:HRVSF). Harvest has a focus on five states, one of which is Florida. This means Trulieve's presence in the Sunshine State will soon get even bigger.\nHowever, the real lure of this deal is the 15 dispensaries Harvest Health operates in its home market of Arizona, a state that legalized recreational weed in November. Trulieve shouldn't have any problem taking its Florida blueprint and applying it in other key markets. This gives it a good chance to go to the moon in the future.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":31,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":147358575,"gmtCreate":1626337038397,"gmtModify":1633927744621,"author":{"id":"3583283098562657","authorId":"3583283098562657","name":"AZROV","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9241a1c12b35d381ad34c1ffde27293a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583283098562657","idStr":"3583283098562657"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Will continue to rise...","listText":"Will continue to rise...","text":"Will continue to rise...","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/147358575","repostId":"2151540938","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2151540938","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1626335268,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2151540938?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-15 15:47","market":"sh","language":"en","title":"China shares end higher on better-than-expected retail data, hopes for policy support","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2151540938","media":"Reuters","summary":"* SSEC +1.02%, CSI300 +1.35%\n* Banks, EVs lead gains;\n* China's Q2 GDP growth misses expectation\nSHA","content":"
* SSEC +1.02%, CSI300 +1.35%
\n
* Banks, EVs lead gains;
\n
* China's Q2 GDP growth misses expectation
\n
SHANGHAI, July 15 (Reuters) - China stocks closed higher on Thursday with banks and the electric vehicle sector leading gains, as investors cheered a better-than-expected retail sales in June while hoping for continued policy support to an economic recovery.
\n
** At the close, the Shanghai Composite index was up 1.02% at 3,564.59 and the blue-chip CSI300 index was up 1.35%. But a combination of prudent spending and investing can help these overlapping groups of people get through a period of uncertainty brought about by pent-up demand and supply shortages.
\n
Below are two lists of 19 dividend stocks with attractive yields -- companies that are expected to have plenty of cash flow to cover dividend increases or other actions that may be good for shareholders, including stock repurchases and business expansion.
\n
The consumer price index rose by 0.9% in only one month . It's easy to say that you shouldn't buy a car or truck this year. The incredible demand for used vehicles has led to a shortage for many of the most popular new ones, which means dealers will be less likely to haggle.
\n
Of course you might be in a pickle and need to get another car or truck at the worst time, but maybe you can make a modest selection this time. You might also delay a plan to sell your home and move into a bigger one, considering that every other national housing boom you have ever witnessed has eventually cooled. In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.
\n
Two dividend stock screens
\n
What do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.
\n
Here's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.
\n
For this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&P 500 , the S&P Mid Cap 400 Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.
\n
Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.
\n
A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)
\n
Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.
\n
Starting with the S&P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. The list is sorted by dividend yield:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Company
\n
Dividend yield
\n
Forward FCF yield
\n
Forward \"headroom\"
\n
Trailing FCF yield
\n
Trailing \"headroom\"
\n
\n
\n
Williams Cos. But a combination of prudent spending and investing can help these overlapping groups of people get through a period of uncertainty brought about by pent-up demand and supply shortages.\nBelow are two lists of 19 dividend stocks with attractive yields -- companies that are expected to have plenty of cash flow to cover dividend increases or other actions that may be good for shareholders, including stock repurchases and business expansion.\nThe consumer price index rose by 0.9% in only one month . It's easy to say that you shouldn't buy a car or truck this year. The incredible demand for used vehicles has led to a shortage for many of the most popular new ones, which means dealers will be less likely to haggle.\nOf course you might be in a pickle and need to get another car or truck at the worst time, but maybe you can make a modest selection this time. You might also delay a plan to sell your home and move into a bigger one, considering that every other national housing boom you have ever witnessed has eventually cooled. In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.\nTwo dividend stock screens\nWhat do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.\nHere's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.\nFor this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Treasury notes on July 13.\nThen we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.\nA trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)\nFinancial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.\nStarting with the S&P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. The list is sorted by dividend yield:\n\n\n\nCompany\nDividend yield\nForward FCF yield\nForward \"headroom\"\nTrailing FCF yield\nTrailing \"headroom\"\n\n\nWilliams Cos. Inc. Ordinarily that would appear to be plenty of headroom to support the dividend. But it implies a payout ratio of 62%, which is much higher than the ratio of the current yield to the forward FCF yield.\nREITs\nFor a second screen of real estate investment trusts, we used funds from operations (FFO) instead of free cash flow. FFO adds depreciation on real estate to earnings and nets out gains or losses on the sale of property. Here are the 10 highest-yielding REITs in the S&P Composite 1500 with positive forward and trailing FFO \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet:\n\n\n\nREIT\nDividend yield\nForward FFO yield\nForward \"headroom\"\nTrailing FFO yield\nTrailing \"headroom\"\n\n\nOmega Healthcare Investors Inc.
