But there are also fundamentally strong names where initiating a short position can be risky. These are the so called unshortable stocks.
\n
True, Short squeeze rallies have delivered multi-fold returns for investors.AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC) is the recent case of a short squeeze rally. However, this does not change the fact that some stocks are worth going short. It’s very likely that AMC stock will witness an equally sharp correction.
\n
That’s not the case with unshortable stocks.
\n
My focus is on four unshortable stocks where short interest as a percentage of free float is approximately 1%. Two of these stocks trade near all-time highs. The other two are in a consolidation mode and there seems to be a high probability of a breakout on the upside.
\n
The reasons for these stocks being unshortable are strong fundamentals, high growth and strong cash flows. Additionally, there are ample positive business growth catalysts on the horizon.
\n
Let’s take a deeper look into the reasons that make these stocks unshortable.
\n
\n
Nvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA)
\n
Target(NYSE:TGT)
\n
Shopify(NYSE:SHOP)
\n
Apple(NASDAQ:AAPL)
\n
\n
Nvidia (NVDA)
\n
NVDA stock is currently trading near 52-week highs. However, the short interest in the stock is just 1% of the free float. This is probably an indication of the point that NVDA stock is among the unshortable stocks.
\n
From a fundamental perspective, Nvidia has been on a high growth trajectory. For the first quarter of 2022, the company reported revenue growth of 84% to $5.66 billion. Growth was healthy in the gaming as well as data center segment.
\n
In addition, Nvidia reported operating cash flow of $1.9 billion for the quarter. This would imply an annualized operating cash flow of nearly $8 billion. The company has high financial flexibility to invest in innovation and pursue inorganic growth.
\n
In a recent news, Nvidia has asked Chinese regulators to approve the $40 billion acquisition of Arm. A possible approval in the coming quarters will ensure that the stock momentum remains positive.
\n
With focus on artificial intelligence, Nvidia has also made inroads in multiple industries. This includes AI chips and solutions for robotics, self-driving and healthcare, among others. Therefore, with multiple growth catalysts, NVDA stock remains attractive.
\n
Target (TGT)
\n
TGT stock is another name that I would include among unshortable stocks. The stock trades near all-time highs and looks good for further upside.
\n
UBS analyst Michael Lasser sees Target as “structurally improved as its strong positioning becomes even clearer in upcoming quarters.” Lasser has a price target of $265 for the stock.
\n
As the U.S. economy witnesses wider reopening, Target is positioned to benefit. According to Moody’s Analytics, Americans were holding $2.6 trillion in excess savings as of mid-April. The possibility of a post-pandemic consumption boom is likely to be good news for Target, among other retailers.
\n
Target has already been delivering stellar growth. For the first quarter, the company reported comparable sales growth of 22.9% on a year-on-year basis. Digital comparable sales growth was 50%.
\n
Clearly, Target is emerging from the pandemic with superior omni-channel capabilities. Initiatives such as order pick-up, drive-up and same-day shipment services are likely to ensure that comparable sales growth remains strong.
\n
From a financial perspective, Target reported cash flows of $1.1 billion for the quarter. With more than $4 billion in annualized cash flow visibility, dividend and share repurchase will continue.
\n
Overall, TGT stock looks attractive considering the growth momentum. With an impending spending boom, it might be best to avoid shorting the stock.
\n
Shopify (SHOP)
\n
SHOP stock seems to be trading at premium valuations. However, the stock has consolidated in the broad range of $1,000 to $1,200. Short interest is low and considering the company’s growth outlook, the stock is among the top unshortable stocks.
\n
For the first quarter, Shopify reported revenue growth of 110% on a year-over-year basis to $988.6 million. An important point to note is that monthly recurring revenue accelerated by 62% to $89.9 million. With sustained growth in monthly recurring revenue, the company is positioned for robust long-term cash flows.
\n
With the pandemic, e-commerce growth has accelerated globally. Shopify is likely to benefit from positive tailwinds in the coming years. It’s also worth noting that the company has expanded offerings for merchants. This includes Shopify Capital, Shopify Shipping and Shopify Plus. As merchants scale up, there is ample scope for revenue growth.
\n
As of March, Shopify reported $7.87 billion in cash and equivalents. As the company expands globally, there is ample financial flexibility to invest in platform upgrade and new merchant solutions. But there are also fundamentally strong names where initiating a short position can be risky. These are the so called unshortable stocks.\nTrue, Short squeeze rallies have delivered multi-fold returns for investors.AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC) is the recent case of a short squeeze rally. However, this does not change the fact that some stocks are worth going short. It’s very likely that AMC stock will witness an equally sharp correction.\nThat’s not the case with unshortable stocks.\nMy focus is on four unshortable stocks where short interest as a percentage of free float is approximately 1%. Two of these stocks trade near all-time highs. The other two are in a consolidation mode and there seems to be a high probability of a breakout on the upside.\nThe reasons for these stocks being unshortable are strong fundamentals, high growth and strong cash flows. Additionally, there are ample positive business growth catalysts on the horizon.\nLet’s take a deeper look into the reasons that make these stocks unshortable.\n\nNvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA)\nTarget(NYSE:TGT)\nShopify(NYSE:SHOP)\nApple(NASDAQ:AAPL)\n\nNvidia (NVDA)\nNVDA stock is currently trading near 52-week highs. However, the short interest in the stock is just 1% of the free float. This is probably an indication of the point that NVDA stock is among the unshortable stocks.\nFrom a fundamental perspective, Nvidia has been on a high growth trajectory. For the first quarter of 2022, the company reported revenue growth of 84% to $5.66 billion. Growth was healthy in the gaming as well as data center segment.\nIn addition, Nvidia reported operating cash flow of $1.9 billion for the quarter. This would imply an annualized operating cash flow of nearly $8 billion. The company has high financial flexibility to invest in innovation and pursue inorganic growth.\nIn a recent news, Nvidia has asked Chinese regulators to approve the $40 billion acquisition of Arm. A possible approval in the coming quarters will ensure that the stock momentum remains positive.\nWith focus on artificial intelligence, Nvidia has also made inroads in multiple industries. This includes AI chips and solutions for robotics, self-driving and healthcare, among others. Therefore, with multiple growth catalysts, NVDA stock remains attractive.\nTarget (TGT)\nTGT stock is another name that I would include among unshortable stocks. The stock trades near all-time highs and looks good for further upside.\nUBS analyst Michael Lasser sees Target as “structurally improved as its strong positioning becomes even clearer in upcoming quarters.” Lasser has a price target of $265 for the stock.\nAs the U.S. economy witnesses wider reopening, Target is positioned to benefit. According to Moody’s Analytics, Americans were holding $2.6 trillion in excess savings as of mid-April. The possibility of a post-pandemic consumption boom is likely to be good news for Target, among other retailers.\nTarget has already been delivering stellar growth. For the first quarter, the company reported comparable sales growth of 22.9% on a year-on-year basis. Digital comparable sales growth was 50%.\nClearly, Target is emerging from the pandemic with superior omni-channel capabilities. Initiatives such as order pick-up, drive-up and same-day shipment services are likely to ensure that comparable sales growth remains strong.\nFrom a financial perspective, Target reported cash flows of $1.1 billion for the quarter. With more than $4 billion in annualized cash flow visibility, dividend and share repurchase will continue.\nOverall, TGT stock looks attractive considering the growth momentum. With an impending spending boom, it might be best to avoid shorting the stock.\nShopify (SHOP)\nSHOP stock seems to be trading at premium valuations. However, the stock has consolidated in the broad range of $1,000 to $1,200. Short interest is low and considering the company’s growth outlook, the stock is among the top unshortable stocks.\nFor the first quarter, Shopify reported revenue growth of 110% on a year-over-year basis to $988.6 million. An important point to note is that monthly recurring revenue accelerated by 62% to $89.9 million. With sustained growth in monthly recurring revenue, the company is positioned for robust long-term cash flows.\nWith the pandemic, e-commerce growth has accelerated globally. Shopify is likely to benefit from positive tailwinds in the coming years. It’s also worth noting that the company has expanded offerings for merchants. This includes Shopify Capital, Shopify Shipping and Shopify Plus. As merchants scale up, there is ample scope for revenue growth.\nAs of March, Shopify reported $7.87 billion in cash and equivalents. As the company expands globally, there is ample financial flexibility to invest in platform upgrade and new merchant solutions. As an example, the company recently introduced Shopify POS offering to merchants.\nOverall, SHOP stock looks attractive with strong top-line growth and clear visibility for robust cash flows in the long-term.\nApple (AAPL)\nAAPL stock is another name that too risky to bet against. The company has always surprised investors and it seems that the stock is positioned for a breakout after the current consolidation. With strong growth and a production innovation pipeline, it’s not surprising that short interest in AAPL stock is less than 1% of the free float.\nAs I write,Reuters reports that Apple is in talks with Chinese manufacturers for a car battery factory in the U.S. The company seems to be gradually working towards its first electric vehicle. That’s likely to keep the markets excited.\nApple has also witnessed strong growth in the wearables and services segment. Besides strong top-line growth, revenue is more diversified. At the same time, iPhone sales are likely to remain robust with 5G being a key growth driver.\nApple’s cash glut also implies sustained value creation through share repurchase and possibly higher dividends. Of course, the cash buffer gives the company ample headroom to invest in product innovation and possible acquisitions.\nOverall, as strong growth sustains, it’s too risky to short AAPL stock. On the contrary, current levels look attractive for considering some long-term exposure.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":531,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":181357490,"gmtCreate":1623375620510,"gmtModify":1631892721451,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment please","listText":"Like and comment please","text":"Like and comment please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":7,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/181357490","repostId":"1184070773","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184070773","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623367038,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1184070773?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-11 07:17","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 climbs to a new record close, shrugging off inflation fears","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184070773","media":"cnbc","summary":"The S&P 500 rose to an all-time high on Thursday as investors shrugged off a key inflation report that showed a bigger-than-expected increase in price pressures. The broad equity benchmark climbed nearly 0.5% to a record closing high of 4,239.18. The S&P 500 also hit an intraday record of 4,249.74, overtaking its May 7 high after the market traded sideways for a month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 19.10 points, or less than 0.1%, to 34,466.24, while the Nasdaq Composite gained about 0.8% to 14,020.33.\nConsumer prices for May accelerated at their fastest pace since the summer of 2008 amid the economic recovery from the pandemic-triggered recession, the Labor Department reported Thursday.\nThe consumer price index, which represents a basket including food, energy, groceries and prices across a spectrum of goods, rose 5% from a year ago. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a gain of 4.7%.\n\"I think there were a lot of people who held back, who wanted to see the hotter inflation number,\" CNBC's Jim Cramer said on \"Squawk on the Street.\" \"Now they've said, 'OK, now that's over with. Used car and truck prices jumped more than 7%, accounting for one-third of the total increase for the month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The jump in used car prices likely reflects a temporary phenomenon related to the pandemic and auto supply.\nA separate report released Thursday showed that jobless claims for the week ended June 5 came in at 376,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 370,000. The total still marked the lowest of the pandemic era.\nUPS shares rose about 1% afteran upgrade from JPMorgan. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance. On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago, raising $587 million. The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this. The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far. Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":383,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":118281713,"gmtCreate":1622733576732,"gmtModify":1631892721473,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy before its too late","listText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy before its too late","text":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy before its too late","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118281713","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":498,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":118234296,"gmtCreate":1622733073815,"gmtModify":1631892721477,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"BUY BB","listText":"BUY BB","text":"BUY BB","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118234296","repostId":"1150102285","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1150102285","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1622730969,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1150102285?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-03 22:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street analysts foresee a 40% drop in the average meme stock, led by an AMC wipeout","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1150102285","media":"CNBC","summary":"Meme stocks are popping this week, but Wall Street analysts who study the fundamentals believe big d","content":"
\n
Meme stocks are popping this week, but Wall Street analysts who study the fundamentals believe big declines are looming.\nSpeculative trading from retail investors, many active on Reddit’s ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The stocks include AMC Entertainment,GameStop,BlackBerry and Bed Bath & Beyond.\nAMC shares closed at an all-time high of $62.55 on Wednesday, but the average 12-month target price of analysts is 91.8% lower, according to FactSet.\n“AMC has survived the pandemic but comes out the other end massively diluted and still over-levered,” Alan Gould of Loop Capital Markets said in a note Monday.\n“Fundamentally, the exclusive theatrical window has shortened, fewer movies are being released theatrically, industry-wide fewer theaters have closed than anticipated, and streaming has become more pervasive,” Gould said. “Eventually the valuation will reflect the fundamentals.”\nCNBC Pro looked at how much lower the Street predicts prices of nine meme stocks will drop in the next 12 months. The estimated declines are based on Wednesday closing prices.\nEven the company itself warned investors of the extreme risk associated with its stock. AMC said Thursday it plans to sell more than 11 million shares, sending the stock into a 30% nosedive in early trading.\n“We believe that the recent volatility and our current market prices reflect market and trading dynamics unrelated to our underlying business, or macro or industry fundamentals, and we do not know how long these dynamics will last,” AMC wrote in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.\n“Under the circumstances, we caution you against investing in our Class A common stock, unless you are prepared to incur the risk of losing all or a substantial portion of your investment,” the company added.\nExpress, another meme stock gaining popularity on Reddit, also announced a share sale on Thursday. The company said it may offer and sell up to 15 million shares through an at-the-market equity offering program. The stock plunged 20% in early trading Thursday.\nWall Street analysts on average expect the price of Express shares to fall 37.3% within 12 months.\nShares of GameStop, which made headlines earlier this year in a short squeeze fueled by retail traders, are expected to plummet 82.9%.\nLooking at all nine meme stocks together, Wall Street predicts an average drop of roughly 40% for these shares.\n“My biggest concern is what’s going on with the individual investor though. They’ve got to be able to understand when they use leverage what that really means,” Joe Moglia, former chairman and CEO of TD Ameritrade, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Thursday.\n“Leverage on the way up is a great thing,” Moglia said. “Leverage on the way down will rip your arms off.”\nWhat’s striking is the magnitude of the decline that’s predicted by these company analysts, considering this group is rarely accused of being too bearish. Analysts have faced criticism in the past of being too bullish on companies they cover, keeping buy ratings and high price targets to stay in good graces.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":307,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":118235750,"gmtCreate":1622733042770,"gmtModify":1634098577218,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy and you’ll know","listText":"Buy and you’ll know","text":"Buy and you’ll know","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118235750","repostId":"118236503","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":118236503,"gmtCreate":1622732970402,"gmtModify":1631888866663,"author":{"id":"3582960211289700","authorId":"3582960211289700","name":"kaye888","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582960211289700","authorIdStr":"3582960211289700"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$what happens ","listText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$what happens ","text":"$BlackBerry(BB)$what happens","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118236503","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":118238787,"gmtCreate":1622732945249,"gmtModify":1634098579576,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Up up here we go go","listText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Up up here we go go","text":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Up up here we go go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118238787","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":288,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":118230457,"gmtCreate":1622732829479,"gmtModify":1634098581605,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy buy buy buy its time to buy em all","listText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy buy buy buy its time to buy em all","text":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Buy buy buy buy its time to buy em all","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/118230457","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":453,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":193849074,"gmtCreate":1620781240998,"gmtModify":1634196377071,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hii like and comment please :)","listText":"Hii like and comment please :)","text":"Hii like and comment please :)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/193849074","repostId":"2134698127","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2134698127","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620779160,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2134698127?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-12 08:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here's why this trader is shorting Apple stock and buying gold","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2134698127","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"The Nasdaq Composite managed to claw back most of its losses Tuesday after falling 2.2% shortly after the open. But that doesn't mean the index itself or the tech sector stocks that populate it are out of the woods. To the contrary, one trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).

Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.

\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"

The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"

2021 is not 2020

Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.

Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"

Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.

JC Parets breaks down an Apple short

\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. That's pretty scary if you ask me. So, I really like the short a lot. Notice those September highs — where we got to in September was 138. We tried to get back there in January and failed. Most recently, we tried to get back there last month and failed, again. That's the level, 138. If you're below 138, under no circumstances can you own Apple ... I prefer to be short. And how low could it go? ... I could go real low. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.

Gold making a comeback

Parets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.

\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. And over the last year, what were the worst assets? Bonds, yen, gold, staples on a relative bases. All the defensive areas were the worst place to be. And that changed in the first quarter of this year. They stopped going down, and over the last couple months, they've actually been going up,\" says Parets.

When it comes to things that have started to go up, Parets is looking at playing gold. \"We've been bullish gold. That trade's been working — not just the metal, also the [gold] miners as well. Yen stopped going down, bonds stopped going down. They're not really going up, but they're not going down either. And [with consumer] staples, utilities, [and] REITs outperforming, does that remind you of an environment where stocks are doing well? But that doesn't mean the index itself or the tech sector stocks that populate it are out of the woods. To the contrary, one trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"2021 is not 2020Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.JC Parets breaks down an Apple short\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.Gold making a comebackParets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. Or should they be doing poorly?\" he asks.Separately, Lee Munson, president and CIO at Portfolio Wealth Advisors, is also telling Yahoo Finance Live he likes gold as an investment because the environment for the precious metal has fundamentally changed. \"What moved gold in the past is not what is moving it right now. We have had a regime change. Generally, I see gold as something that tends to go up when the Fed's balance sheet expands. Some people think the balance sheet can't expand anymore. The jump in used car prices likely reflects a temporary phenomenon related to the pandemic and auto supply.\nA separate report released Thursday showed that jobless claims for the week ended June 5 came in at 376,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 370,000.
On the contrary, current levels look attractive for considering some long-term exposure.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":531,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190150538,"gmtCreate":1620607332324,"gmtModify":1634197800679,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi, like and comment please:)","listText":"Hi, like and comment please:)","text":"Hi, like and comment please:)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/190150538","repostId":"2134686276","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":307,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":197090306,"gmtCreate":1621407733405,"gmtModify":1634189394487,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi like and comment thanks :)))","listText":"Hi like and comment thanks :)))","text":"Hi like and comment thanks :)))","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/197090306","repostId":"2136999458","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":265,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":106131571,"gmtCreate":1620092187293,"gmtModify":1634207889213,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like and comment :))))","listText":"Please like and comment :))))","text":"Please like and comment :))))","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/106131571","repostId":"1147234999","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":323,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":116919799,"gmtCreate":1622769416511,"gmtModify":1631892721468,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi please like and comment :))","listText":"Hi please like and comment :))","text":"Hi please like and comment :))","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/116919799","repostId":"1182667134","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1182667134","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1622761779,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1182667134?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-04 07:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow ends day flat as economic comeback plays offset losses in tech","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1182667134","media":"CNBC","summary":"Cyclical stocks lifted the Dow Jones Industrial Average off its low on Thursday to close the session","content":"
\n
Cyclical stocks lifted the Dow Jones Industrial Average off its low on Thursday to close the session near the flatline, while better-than-expected labor market data helped support sentiment. The blue-...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":383,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":196868316,"gmtCreate":1621042784435,"gmtModify":1634194370565,"author":{"id":"3574850821890343","authorId":"3574850821890343","name":"Brennnnnn","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/33cda8cd5a45aa01655b834b32a1a99f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574850821890343","authorIdStr":"3574850821890343"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow wow wow amc wow","listText":"Wow wow wow amc wow","text":"Wow wow wow amc wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/196868316","repostId":"1163454382","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163454382","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621004581,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1163454382?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-14 23:03","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why AMC Entertainment Stock Jumped Again Friday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163454382","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"AMC investors have reason for more optimism on the heels of another capital raise.Yesterday's jump came after the company announcedit raised $428 million. The bill recently passed in the House of Representatives for the third time.
\n
It has eight Republican co-sponsors in the Senate, and Balsky said she believes it has enough bipartisan support to pass. At this point, Balsky said the biggest question for the SAFE Act is just how long Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will wait to put the SAFE Act to a vote.
