Fool","summary":"Three of Buffett's largest holdings look strong heading into 2022.","content":"
Warren Buffett and his company Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) are well known for their stock-picking abilities that have been proven over many decades. For this prowess, along with Berkshire's success in the other businesses the conglomerate operates in, the stock has consistently been a winner.
\n
Between 1965 and 2020, Berkshire's stock has generated compounded annual gains of 20%, compared to the S&P 500's compounded annual gain of 10.2%, including dividends, over the same timeframe. It's for this very reason that investors watch Buffett and Berkshire's stock picks so closely. Here are three Buffett stocks I like heading into 2022.
\n
1. Bank of America
\n
America's second-largest bank by assets, Bank of America (NYSE:BAC), also happens to be the second-largest position in Buffett and Berkshire's equities portfolio. Buffett first got in on Bank of America coming out of the Great Recession and currently owns more than 1 billion shares worth nearly $45.8 billion. Early in the pandemic in the middle of 2020, Buffett took advantage of the beaten-down bank sector to plow another $2 billion into Bank of America and now owns nearly 12% of the financial institution's outstanding shares.
\n
Shares of Bank of America have climbed more than 47% this year and are up more than double from pandemic lows. While the valuation has gotten high, I like Bank of America because it is well-positioned to deal with higher inflation, higher interest rates, and more difficult market conditions that could be seen next year. Higher interest rates benefit Bank of America tremendously because the yields on many of the loans at the bank will increase along with the rate hikes. The consumer is currently in great shape. Since banking is linked to the overall economy and gross domestic product in the U.S. is expected to grow about 4% next year, I think the bank is going to have a good year.
\n
2. American Express
\n
Berkshire owns more than 151 million shares of the credit card company American Express (NYSE:AXP) for a total value of roughly $24.7 billion, making it the third-largest holding in Berkshire's portfolio. American Express has also had a nice year with the stock price up more than 38%.
\n
There are two main reasons I like American Express heading into 2022. For one, because the consumer has been so healthy, Americans have been paying off their credit card bills and haven't had as much need to take on debt. As money and benefits from previous stimulus bills run down, that won't always be the case. At the beginning of December, The Wall Street Journal reported that credit card applications had recently hit a pandemic high.
\n
American Express is also big in the travel, airlines, and lodging businesses, so the more the world continues to recover from the pandemic and COVID-19, the more its business will benefit. Some of those travel-related sectors still aren't fully back yet, especially when you think about international travel.
\n
3. U.S. Bancorp
\n
Buffett and Berkshire own more than 144 million shares valued at nearly $8.3 billion of the large regional bank U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB). The bank is a high-performing commercial bank. It also runs a unique payments business that includes retail credit, debit, prepaid cards, global merchant acquiring, and corporate payment solutions in sectors such as aviation, fleet, transportation, and travel.
\n
Because the payments business operates in these sectors, the segment could still recover further in 2022 as the world rebounds from COVID-19. Additionally, management is very focused on further integrating the payments and commercial banking businesses because 72% of the bank's business banking customers still don't have a payments product, and half of U.S. Bancorp's payments customers don't have a banking product.
\n
There's a lot of opportunity for cross-selling. U.S. Bancorp also recently announced its intention to acquire the U.S. banking division of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. This deal will give U.S. Bancorp an additional 190,000 business banking customers and more scale in California, both things that are in line with U.S. Bancorp's current strategy.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Warren Buffett Stocks I Like Heading Into 2022
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Warren Buffett Stocks I Like Heading Into 2022\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-17 21:11 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Warren Buffett and his company Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) are well known for their stock-picking abilities that have been proven over many decades. Impressive delivery rates for the month of June show that the market may underestimate NIO's growth potential.
\n
Shipping volumes are accelerating
\n
NIO guided for lower production volumes in the second quarter due to the global chip and battery supply shortage. The shortage was set to reduce NIO's factory output from 10,000 vehicles to 7,500 vehicles a month.
\n
The global semiconductor supply shortage has its roots in the COVID-19 pandemic. As more people started to work from home, a sharp increase in demand for semiconductors from the consumer electronics industry coincided with a faster than anticipated rebound in chip demand from the auto industry, leading to a global shortage in semiconductors that is throttling auto production from the US to China. NIO's guidance for lower factory output has lowered delivery expectations but a return to triple-digit growth rates may now push NIO's stock higher again.
\n
While the temporary production drop was a setback for NIO, it seems that the electric vehicle maker is ready to bounce back.NIO's June deliveries were nothing short of impressive and the market may underestimate NIO's ability to grow EV deliveries at triple digits this year. The Chinese EV maker delivered a total 8,083 vehicles in June, bringing the Q2'21 total to 21,896 EVs consisting of all models… NIO's 5-seater electric SUV ES6, the 5-seater electric coupe SUV EC6 and the 6-seater or 7-seater electric SUV ES8. NIO's monthly and quarterly delivery totals hit records in the second quarter and the EV maker is set to reach new records for the rest of the year. Total June deliveries saw 116% growth Y/Y with the largest growth coming from the ES6 model. The ES6 category saw 52% growth Y/Y. Total deliveries for Q2'21 were 21,896, most of which were ES6s, showing growth of 112% Y/Y… and that's despite production problems in the second quarter. Comparable figures for the EC6 are not available since deliveries for this model only began after the second quarter last year. What stands out from NIO's June delivery report is that shipping growth is speeding up compared to the previous month, which may be seen as a sign that NIO's delivery capabilities are undervalued. In May, NIO delivered 6,711 vehicles which is equivalent to a Y/Y growth rate of 95%. Strong delivery numbers for the month of June may be a cue that NIO's production problems are easing and that NIO is ready to return to full production capacity.
\n
(Source: Author)
\n
NIO has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles which the EV maker is not fully utilizing due to the semiconductor shortage. As soon as the chip shortage eases, which can be expected to be the case in the second half of the year, we should see a steady ramp up in NIO's factory output and deliveries. The speed of the ramp up will depend less on demand but rather on the severity of the supply shortage. The semiconductor shortage is a primary risk factor that will impact NIO's delivery success in the remaining two quarters.
\n
The market for electric vehicles is very resilient in China and demand for zero-emission passenger vehicles is not going away due to delays in production, which may be a sort of luxury problem for Chinese EV makers. NIO's EV sales in China have surged this year, but the second half of the year may see even faster growth as the industry works through the supply problem.
\n
(Source:InsideEVs)
\n
XPeng (XPEV), another Chinese electric vehicle maker, delivered 6,565 Smart EVs in June 2021, representing growth of 617% Y/Y. XPeng sold 4,730 electric sport sedans and 1,835 compact SUVs last month, more than ever before. In Q2'21, XPeng delivered 17,398 deliveries, representing 439% growth Y/Y.
\n
XPeng's EV sales in China are also soaring showing strong demand and customer uptake of EV vehicles.
\n
(Source:InsideEVs)
\n
NIO FY 2021 delivery projections
\n
My estimates for Q3'21 and Q4'21 deliveries are shown in the graph below and assume a ramp up especially in NIO's ES6 delivery capability and a continual escalation to a quarterly output of 30,000 vehicles by year-end. A quarterly output volume of around 30,000 cars by year-end is realistic to achieve and NIO would still be operating 20% below full production capacity. Calculating the delivery totals for Q1 and Q2 together with my estimates for Q3 and Q4 results in a total delivery potential of 97,056 vehicles (across all three models) in FY 2021 and NIO may even be able to crack the 100,000 barrier if shipment volumes continue to accelerate at a strong rate in the last two quarters of the year. NIO delivered 43,728 vehicles in 2020 in total, so a 97,056 delivery estimate for 2021 implies 122% Y/Y growth. In the first six months of 2021, NIO already delivered 41,956 or 43% of my FY 2021 delivery estimate. As production returns to normal in the second half of the year, NIO should be able to create triple-digit delivery growth on a Y/Y basis.
\n
(Source: Author)
\n
NIO's sales growth is cheap
\n
EV makers are not cheap and that is because the market values sales and delivery growth more than anything. NIO trades at a P-S ratio of 9.4 and the valuation multiplier factor is not that much different from other EV makers. Compared against Tesla (TSLA), which trades at a P-S ratio of 9.9, NIO has more revaluation potential because it operates in a larger market and has a lower revenue base.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Risks
\n
The chip supply shortage is still a major risk factor for NIO and it will have an impact on NIO's Q3 and Q4 production output... which will be below potential. As conditions normalize slowly in the second half, NIO should be able to ramp up factory output and deliveries. While delivery growth rates are influenced by factors outside of NIO's operations, they also represent a big opportunity for NIO to surprise the market. Better than expected growth rates and a fast return to full production could create fertile ground for stock price appreciation.
\n
Final thoughts
\n
NIO may be growing faster than expected in 2021 as the chip supply shortage eases and a strong rebound in the second half of the year could push NIO to hit the critical 100,000 annual delivery milestone. Demand for EVs remained strong in 2021 and Chinese EV makers are killing it. I believe 120% Y/Y growth in annual deliveries is possible in 2021 as factory output normalizes in the second half of the year.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
NIO May Grow Even Faster Than Expected
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNIO May Grow Even Faster Than Expected\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-02 23:09 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nNIO’s June deliveries grew at an impressive rate.\nThe Chinese EV maker returned to triple-digit delivery growth last month, helped by strong Y/Y growth in NIO’s flagship model ES6.\nNIO is set...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NIO":"蔚来"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4437606-nio-may-grow-faster-than-expected","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1120590567","content_text":"Summary\n\nNIO’s June deliveries grew at an impressive rate.\nThe Chinese EV maker returned to triple-digit delivery growth last month, helped by strong Y/Y growth in NIO’s flagship model ES6.\nNIO is set to overcome production setbacks and ramp up production in the second half of 2021.\n\npeterschreiber.media/iStock via Getty Images\nChinese electric vehicle maker NIO (NIO) is rebounding fast from the pandemic-driven chip supply shortage and the proof is in surging EV deliveries. About the same thing it does to everything else. Itreduces purchasing poweras the dollar doesn’t stretch as far as it previously did. However, there are other effects to consider.

For example, investors looking for stocks that generate income through dividends are likely going to turn bearish with rising inflation. That’s due to the dividends paid out by companies not being able to keep up with inflation rates.

So what does this mean for these stocks? Typically, they see their value decline as investors deem them not worthy of buying due to inflation outpacing dividend payments. However, it is worth pointing out that those dividends can act as a partial hedge against rising inflation rates.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t investment opportunities to be found among income-generating stocks right now. Investors can keep an eye on these stocks as they decline and buy them on the dip. Then they profit as inflation tapers off and the stocks gain value again.

That last bit is worth pointing out as the sticker shock from inflation isn’t expected to last beyond 2021. The Federal Reserve is expecting inflation to rise this year before slowing down the following year. However, there are concerns that inflation will keep rising and policymakers will have to put a stop to it, reportsInvestor’s Business Daily.

Investors that want to see what else is happening with the market today can keep on reading.

InvestorPlacecovers crypto, stocks, and other hot topics every day. However, it is worth pointing out that those dividends can act as a partial hedge against rising inflation rates.Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t investment opportunities to be found among income-generating stocks right now. However, there are concerns that inflation will keep rising and policymakers will have to put a stop to it, reportsInvestor’s Business Daily.Investors that want to see what else is happening with the market today can keep on reading.InvestorPlacecovers crypto, stocks, and other hot topics every day. In genome analysis, OGM allows researchers to find large structural variations. This is an important step in testing for genetic diseases. Is next-generation sequencing a rival technology? Not necessarily. Sequencing detects small variants but often misses these important larger ones. So, it's fair to say OGM and sequencing are complementary.
\n
The coronavirus pandemic weighed on the genomic testing market last year as some labs temporarily reduced operations. Bionano's full-year revenue fell 16% to $8.5 million. And the company's net loss widened.
\n
Even in this context, though, Bionano showed growth. The company's installs of the Saphyr system increased by 24 to a total of 97 last year. And Bionano's acquisition of Lineagen helped it increase fourth-quarter revenue by 43% to $4 million. The Lineagen business offers diagnostic testing for neurodevelopmental disorders.

\n
With this acquisition and Bionano's Saphyr, it looks like growth is in its early stages -- and there's a lot more to come.
