The company's shares are down 36% in the past three months and 24% in 2021. The market was expecting an increase. In its fiscal second quarter ended June 30, Pinterest reported a drop of 24 million users from the previous quarter -- down to a total of 454 million monthly active users. These are folks around the world who spend time browsing the app. Advertisers are interested in gaining their attention and are willing to pay Pinterest for the privilege to do so. Fewer users mean advertisers pay less to Pinterest.</p>\n<p>The surprising turnaround in the trend makes investors unsure if the loss in Pinterest users was a <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-quarter event or if it will continue downward. As is usual with any business, uncertainty adds risk; and all else being equal, investors want less risk.</p>\n<h2>Not as damaging as it looks</h2>\n<p>But Pinterest's loss of monthly active users in the quarter is not as bad as it looks on the surface. After spending so much time cooped up at home, it's understandable that folks are going out more often as economies reopen. Therein lies an upside to reopening economies: Businesses are ramping up advertising to get the word out that they are open. That boost in ad sales increased Pinterest's revenue by 125% in the second quarter vs. the same time last year.</p>\n<p>Moreover, even though the numbers show a decline in monthly active users, it doesn't necessarily mean Pinterest has lost those consumers permanently; it just means they haven't opened their app or logged in from a computer browser in the past month. It is very possible that some of those users will reconnect after spending some time away.</p>\n<h2>Pinterest stock is trading at a lower price</h2>\n<p>Nevertheless, the market turned sour on the stock, and it has continued to fall. Pinterest is trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 14, down significantly from the 32 it was selling for earlier in the year. Using that metric, the stock is still not cheap, trading right around its historical average.</p>\n<p>That could be why intelligent investors are not buying the stock in large quantities just yet. Pinterest is likely on their watch lists, and they are waiting for the stock to either fall further or for better news regarding monthly active users. So it will not be surprising if there is an increasing share of sharp investors paying attention to Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) stock right now.\nThe image-based, social-media app benefited tremendously at the pandemic's onset and is now experiencing a reversal of that trend. The company's shares are down 36% in the past three months and 24% in 2021. The fall could create an opportunity for long-term investors.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nPinterest sheds monthly active users\nThe primary cause of Pinterest stock's decrease is a drop in monthly active users from the previous quarter. The market was expecting an increase. In its fiscal second quarter ended June 30, Pinterest reported a drop of 24 million users from the previous quarter -- down to a total of 454 million monthly active users. These are folks around the world who spend time browsing the app. Advertisers are interested in gaining their attention and are willing to pay Pinterest for the privilege to do so. Fewer users mean advertisers pay less to Pinterest.\nThe surprising turnaround in the trend makes investors unsure if the loss in Pinterest users was a one-quarter event or if it will continue downward. As is usual with any business, uncertainty adds risk; and all else being equal, investors want less risk.\nNot as damaging as it looks\nBut Pinterest's loss of monthly active users in the quarter is not as bad as it looks on the surface. After spending so much time cooped up at home, it's understandable that folks are going out more often as economies reopen. Therein lies an upside to reopening economies: Businesses are ramping up advertising to get the word out that they are open. That boost in ad sales increased Pinterest's revenue by 125% in the second quarter vs. the same time last year.\nMoreover, even though the numbers show a decline in monthly active users, it doesn't necessarily mean Pinterest has lost those consumers permanently; it just means they haven't opened their app or logged in from a computer browser in the past month. It is very possible that some of those users will reconnect after spending some time away.\nPinterest stock is trading at a lower price\nNevertheless, the market turned sour on the stock, and it has continued to fall. Pinterest is trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 14, down significantly from the 32 it was selling for earlier in the year. Using that metric, the stock is still not cheap, trading right around its historical average.\nThat could be why intelligent investors are not buying the stock in large quantities just yet. Pinterest is likely on their watch lists, and they are waiting for the stock to either fall further or for better news regarding monthly active users. The SoFi strategy is to build a membership experience and a full suite of products that leverages the financial services productivity loop. This is where it builds trust and a relationship in the first product to drive success in the next. This should see the company realize a higher customer lifetime value against lower customer acquisitions costs. It forms a competitive advantage against single product competition and creates the conditions for profits and free cash flow generation.</p>\n<p>The financial rationale underpinning this thesis is a revenue compound annual growth rate of at least 42% through to fiscal 2025 with adjusted EBITDA margins at 45%. This should see an average quarterly revenue of at least $1 billion from fiscal 2025.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/383c2ac508db6c9e1131e95639cfc84f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"289\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>SoFi Adjusted Net Revenue And Adjusted EBITDA Guidance</span></p>\n<p>While my expected adjusted revenue growth rate comes in higher than SoFi's guidance by $331 million, the adjusted EBITDA should at minimum mirror provided guidance. SoFi's strategy should then see a material portion of this revenue converted into free cash flow. As at the end of its last reported quarter, for every $1 in revenue created, the company was able to convert 12.5 cents into free cash flow. This saw FCF, which is cash from operations minus capital expenditures, come in at $55.80 million for the 6 months ending June 30, 2021.</p>\n<p><b>The Winner Takes Most</b></p>\n<p>Cash is king. This is one of the most universal statements in business due to its importance in ascertaining the overall fiscal health of a company. Hence, with SoFi currently holding cash and equivalents of $462 million, the company's expected generation of free cash flow in the years coming places it in a healthy financial position. Further, the potential granting of a new banking charter, the increased operational scale of its strategy, the trajectory of its new financial services, and the retrenchment of pandemic era constraints on its business should see the company rise to realize incremental improvements to its FCF conversion rate. My bullish thesis states that this has a capacity to rise to at least 17 cents on the dollar or a free cash flow margin of 17%.</p>\n<p>This should likely see free cash flow come in at just under $700 million generated on revenue of $4 billion in fiscal 2025. This leaves the only remaining equation to be what multiple on FCF the market will extend to SoFi at this point in the future. Square (SQ) currently trades on a 74x multiple to its cash flows, hence a 40x multiple to FCF could be stated as somewhat prudent, albeit not entirely conservative. This should see the total market capitalization of the company at roughly $28 billion, a 100% increase from its current $14 billion market cap. Annualized returns at 25% from fiscal 2022 would be far in excess of historical returns from the broader market.</p>\n<p>Of course, the actual end market capitalization could be a widely different figure as it will be dictated by a number of factors that are hard to forecast so far ahead. Peloton has been able to attract millions of active members, but reaching new customers who are allowing others to use their Peloton equipment and subscriptions at rental locations can be another way to leverage the company's equipment and content base.</p>\n<h2>Expanding on a strong core</h2>\n<p>In fiscal 2018, Peloton was almost entirely a stationary cycling company, with cycling accounting for about 85% of the company's workouts. But in the past three years, the company has expanded how people use its products. Strength programs are now about 20% of workouts, and floor content is around 10%. Cycling is now less than 60% of the workouts done in any given year, and shrinking.</p>\n<p>I think this is a sign that Peloton is building a product that's attractive to more users and becoming stickier for subscribers. If Peloton has something for everyone, it's going to provide much more value to subscribers long-term.</p>\n<p>In time, we could even see Peloton slowly raise subscription prices because of the value it's providing.</p>\n<h2>Peloton has growth opportunities ahead</h2>\n<p>After acquiring its own manufacturing facility in the U.S., Peloton now has more control of not only manufacturing and inventory but also new product development. We know a new Tread is on the way, and improved bikes are likely as well.</p>\n<p>I think Peloton could also expand into home strength equipment and even wearables. Peloton is already a critical fitness tool for members, so why not deepen that relationship?</p>\n<p>The company has a lot of opportunities to expand its product footprint and engage even more with customers. As it does, the incremental benefit to users from more digital content makes a Peloton subscription that much more valuable.</p>\n<h2>The growth story isn't over</h2>\n<p>There are a number of potential threats to Peloton's business, from <b>Apple</b>'s growing suite of fitness content to the reopening of gyms around the world.
