src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8977785546ccb691b11117bea0aa1480\" tg-width=\"1320\" tg-height=\"742\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">AMD Chief Executive Lisa Su is seen in 2017. AFP via Getty Images
\n
As technology stocks have led the market for the better part of a dozen years, there are now 15 companies in the sector that have risen to mega-cap status — those valued at $200 billion or more.
\n
Five are valued at more than $1 trillion, including electric-vehicle maker Tesla, which I consider a tech company.
\n
Bets have been placed on which companies will rise to a trillion next, with Meta Platforms — aka Facebook — at the top of most lists and Nvidia, sitting on top of mine as a call I made 14 months ago.
\n
Perhaps harder than rising from north of half a trillion to a trillion is rising from less than $200 billion to break the threshold into mega-cap status.
\n
However, a few companies look destined for this outcome precisely, and I believe three have an incredibly compelling case to get there within the next 12 to 18 months — if not sooner.
\n
1. ServiceNow: ServiceNow has been on an incredible run for more than a decade. From 2010 to 2020, revenues grew at a 59.2% average annual rate, while its stock rose at 44% a year. The company finished the 2020 calendar year at about $4.5 billion in revenue, and its trailing 12 months have surged close to $5.5 billion.
\n
The company now has more than 1,266 customers with a million or more dollars in recurring revenue, and is seeing this number grow at a substantial rate, including 25% in its most recent quarter.
\n
Beyond the numbers, the company’s technology, which enables companies to automate and implement digital workflows, continues to prove robust and best of breed. The most recent release of its Rome platform, three additional acquisitions to expand its portfolio and a deepened partnership with Microsoft are just a few recent highlights that provide the company a pathway to growth that should accelerate based on trends including app modernization, hybrid work, workflow automation, and even enterprise ESG initiatives.
\n
It’s hard to see ServiceNow not providing the robust growth that will take its market cap above $200 billion. The company’s market value is about $138 billion as of Monday.
\n
2. Qualcomm:Qualcomm’s strong earnings report released last week — earnings per share jumped 76% year over year and revenue rose 43% — helped drive the stock to over $160 from the low $120s in mid-October.
\n
Consequently, that took the company’s market cap from about $145 billion to over $180 billion in just a matter of days. It serves as a timely reminder of how quickly a tech company in the right markets can produce momentum.
\n
Qualcomm, while best known as a chip provider for mobile handsets, is rapidly becoming a much bigger force in many categories, including the internet of things (IoT), automotive and wireless RFFE. With IoT and wireless RFFE surpassing a billion dollars a quarter in revenue, and automotive reaching nearly a billion in annual revenue with a $10 billion design pipeline, the company is becoming increasingly diversified. Thirty-eight percent of revenue in its QCT semiconductor business is now unrelated to handsets.
\n
Perhaps these adjacent business successes alone could catapult the company’s market value to over $200 billion, but what Qualcomm also has going for it is an undisputable global market leadership in 5G, which will continue to accelerate its handset business, as well as all of its adjacencies and massive licensing business.
\n
3. AMD: I’ve been critical at times of Advanced Micro Devices, and sometimes you have to lean into calls you get wrong. While Intel under new CEO Pat Gelsinger shows more ambition and clear direction, AMD under Lisa Su has been on an absolute tear.
\n
In August, Mercury Research reported that AMD’s 22.5% x86 market share was its best in 14 years. With 4.2% year-over-year market share growth in its second quarter and another 54% overall revenue growth in the third quarter, the company’s market share gains look likely to continue.
\n
While I do think Intel is quickly patching its gaps and going to be a much more robust competitor, I believe the overall demand for CPUs (central processing units), GPUs (graphics processing units) and FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) will drive a larger total addressable market, and AMD’s going to grow revenues even if market share gains level off.
\n
Speaking of FPGA’s, the impending Xilinx deal, which I believe will gain regulatory approval, hasn’t been accounted for by many investors.
\n
AMD’s market value rose to over $180 billion Monday after the stock surged more than 10%. The company on Monday announced a range of news, including the fact that Meta will use its Epyc processors in its data center computers.
\n
After those three, I would add Micron Technology as an honorable mention. AFP via Getty Images\nAs technology stocks have led the market for the better part of a dozen years, there are now 15 companies in the sector that have risen to mega-cap status — those valued at $200 billion or more.\nFive are valued at more than $1 trillion, including electric-vehicle maker Tesla, which I consider a tech company.\nBets have been placed on which companies will rise to a trillion next, with Meta Platforms — aka Facebook — at the top of most lists and Nvidia, sitting on top of mine as a call I made 14 months ago.\nPerhaps harder than rising from north of half a trillion to a trillion is rising from less than $200 billion to break the threshold into mega-cap status.\nHowever, a few companies look destined for this outcome precisely, and I believe three have an incredibly compelling case to get there within the next 12 to 18 months — if not sooner.\n1. ServiceNow: ServiceNow has been on an incredible run for more than a decade. From 2010 to 2020, revenues grew at a 59.2% average annual rate, while its stock rose at 44% a year. The company finished the 2020 calendar year at about $4.5 billion in revenue, and its trailing 12 months have surged close to $5.5 billion.\nThe company now has more than 1,266 customers with a million or more dollars in recurring revenue, and is seeing this number grow at a substantial rate, including 25% in its most recent quarter.\nBeyond the numbers, the company’s technology, which enables companies to automate and implement digital workflows, continues to prove robust and best of breed. The most recent release of its Rome platform, three additional acquisitions to expand its portfolio and a deepened partnership with Microsoft are just a few recent highlights that provide the company a pathway to growth that should accelerate based on trends including app modernization, hybrid work, workflow automation, and even enterprise ESG initiatives.\nIt’s hard to see ServiceNow not providing the robust growth that will take its market cap above $200 billion. The company’s market value is about $138 billion as of Monday.\n2. Qualcomm:Qualcomm’s strong earnings report released last week — earnings per share jumped 76% year over year and revenue rose 43% — helped drive the stock to over $160 from the low $120s in mid-October.\nConsequently, that took the company’s market cap from about $145 billion to over $180 billion in just a matter of days. It serves as a timely reminder of how quickly a tech company in the right markets can produce momentum.\nQualcomm, while best known as a chip provider for mobile handsets, is rapidly becoming a much bigger force in many categories, including the internet of things (IoT), automotive and wireless RFFE. With IoT and wireless RFFE surpassing a billion dollars a quarter in revenue, and automotive reaching nearly a billion in annual revenue with a $10 billion design pipeline, the company is becoming increasingly diversified. Thirty-eight percent of revenue in its QCT semiconductor business is now unrelated to handsets.\nPerhaps these adjacent business successes alone could catapult the company’s market value to over $200 billion, but what Qualcomm also has going for it is an undisputable global market leadership in 5G, which will continue to accelerate its handset business, as well as all of its adjacencies and massive licensing business.\n3. AMD: I’ve been critical at times of Advanced Micro Devices, and sometimes you have to lean into calls you get wrong. While Intel under new CEO Pat Gelsinger shows more ambition and clear direction, AMD under Lisa Su has been on an absolute tear.\nIn August, Mercury Research reported that AMD’s 22.5% x86 market share was its best in 14 years. With 4.2% year-over-year market share growth in its second quarter and another 54% overall revenue growth in the third quarter, the company’s market share gains look likely to continue.\nWhile I do think Intel is quickly patching its gaps and going to be a much more robust competitor, I believe the overall demand for CPUs (central processing units), GPUs (graphics processing units) and FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) will drive a larger total addressable market, and AMD’s going to grow revenues even if market share gains level off.\nSpeaking of FPGA’s, the impending Xilinx deal, which I believe will gain regulatory approval, hasn’t been accounted for by many investors.\nAMD’s market value rose to over $180 billion Monday after the stock surged more than 10%. The company on Monday announced a range of news, including the fact that Meta will use its Epyc processors in its data center computers.\nAfter those three, I would add Micron Technology as an honorable mention. The company sits at closer to $85 billion in market cap. Still, as our thirst for compute continues to grow, the need for memory technology will scale dramatically, making Micron a significant beneficiary along with the likes of Samsung, which already sits well inside mega-cap territory.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":727,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":873106136,"gmtCreate":1636870552672,"gmtModify":1636870552804,"author":{"id":"3561986763872297","authorId":"3561986763872297","name":"SCP03","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2abf42c22b2629cf57b473d657ee801e","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a AFP via Getty Images
The company sits at closer to $85 billion in market cap. Still, as our thirst for compute continues to grow, the need for memory technology will scale dramatically, making Micron a significant beneficiary along with the likes of Samsung, which already sits well inside mega-cap territory.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
These are the next three mega-cap tech stocks you’ll be hearing more about
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThese are the next three mega-cap tech stocks you’ll be hearing more about\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-14 10:37 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
AMD is among companies poised to eclipse $200 billion in market value\nAMD Chief Executive Lisa Su is seen in 2017. company's supply issues only pushed demand back into 2022.
\n
\"Buy this dip all day long,\" he told Bloomberg TV.
\n
Ives added that he sees a $3T market cap for the company.
\n
Late Thursday, Apple (AAPL) reported quarterly revenue that missed expectations as a lack of computer chips and other supplies curtailed production and knocked an estimated $6B off the top line.
\n
What's more, AAPL's CEO said the supply constraints look worse in Q4, meaning that revenue growth will face an even more daunting stumbling block in the final months of the year.
\n
Ives remained optimistic that the company will eventually work through its supply problems, calling the hiccup \"painful noise in the near term.\"
\n
Instead, the Wedbush analyst focused on the demand picture, contending that AAPL will be able to capture delayed sales in 2022.
\n
He acknowledged that if the supply constraints linger significantly into 2022, it could lead to multiple contraction in AAPL's shares.
\n
However, he predicted that the issues would abate, leading to his $3T market cap prediction.
\n
AAPL dropped nearly 4% in Friday's early going, Securities managing director Dan Ives advised investors to take advantage of an earnings-inspired decline in shares of Apple(NASDAQ:AAPL), arguing that the company's supply issues only pushed demand back into 2022.\n\"Buy this dip all day long,\" he told Bloomberg TV.\nIves added that he sees a $3T market cap for the company.\nLate Thursday, Apple (AAPL) reported quarterly revenue that missed expectations as a lack of computer chips and other supplies curtailed production and knocked an estimated $6B off the top line.\nWhat's more, AAPL's CEO said the supply constraints look worse in Q4, meaning that revenue growth will face an even more daunting stumbling block in the final months of the year.\nIves remained optimistic that the company will eventually work through its supply problems, calling the hiccup \"painful noise in the near term.\"\nInstead, the Wedbush analyst focused on the demand picture, contending that AAPL will be able to capture delayed sales in 2022.\nHe acknowledged that if the supply constraints linger significantly into 2022, it could lead to multiple contraction in AAPL's shares.\nHowever, he predicted that the issues would abate, leading to his $3T market cap prediction.\nAAPL dropped nearly 4% in Friday's early going, falling to $146.69 at about 10 AM ET.\nShares reached a 52-week high of $157.26 in early September but have come off that Because the broad market has returned almost 10% a year over time, it often takes a well-diversified portfolio and lots of patience.
\n
But one good way to tip the odds in your favor is to look for growing companies that have a strong moat, lots of cash, and effective management. Even if only one of your growth picks ends up becoming a massive winner, it can more than make up for a big decliner -- after all you can only lose the money you invest, but finding a great company early in its lifespan can earn you many times that amount. My choice for a young winner that can help you beat Wall Street is Upstart Holdings(NASDAQ:UPST).
\n
\n
Becoming a key player in the banking industry
\n
Upstart provides an artificial intelligence lending platform for banks that identifies risk more accurately than traditional methods. Instead of sorting borrowers into broad, generalized categories that miss individual risk factors, it uses 1,600 data points to assess a borrower's true credit risk. Using its services, banks are able to approve more loans, bringing in more funds with less risk.
\n
That's an attractive model, and the company has demonstrated enormous growth since it went public a year ago. Second-quarter revenue increased more than 1,000%, and loans originated increased more than 1,600%. But with revenue of just $194 million in the second quarter, there's still plenty of room to grow. Management expects revenue to increase between 215% and 230% in the third quarter.
\n
And the company says that total U.S. consumer credit was $4.2 trillion for the 12-month period that ended in June, according to data from TransUnion. Responsible for just 0.01% of that, Upstart has a huge addressable market.
\n
Right now Upstart works predominantly with smaller banks, since the large ones can create their own solutions. And a large portion of its loans are concentrated in two banks -- which on the one hand means it can skyrocket as new banks sign on, but on the other hand means there's some risk attached to relying on two partners. But Upstart is improving in this area: Cross River Bank accounted for 79% of loans in Q2 2020, but only 60% in Q2 2021 as Upstart expanded.
\n
In the meantime, the company is already profitable, having turned a profit of $36 million after an $11 million loss in the second quarter of 2020. Another factor to consider is that Upstart caters to the banking industry, but it's not a bank itself, so it has less exposure to the risk that the banks take on. Some 97% of revenue comes from fees without any credit risk.
\n
Upstart's newest product is Upstart Auto Retail, which it developed after acquiring Prodigy Software in April. The automotive industry is a $1 trillion market, with less than 1% of buyers satisfied with the process. Upstart is taking aim at this market, offering a better way to provide financing that approves more loans with less risk and makes for a better experience for dealers and buyers. Because the broad market has returned almost 10% a year over time, it often takes a well-diversified portfolio and lots of patience.\nBut one good way to tip the odds in your favor is to look for growing companies that have a strong moat, lots of cash, and effective management. Even if only one of your growth picks ends up becoming a massive winner, it can more than make up for a big decliner -- after all you can only lose the money you invest, but finding a great company early in its lifespan can earn you many times that amount. My choice for a young winner that can help you beat Wall Street is Upstart Holdings(NASDAQ:UPST).\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nBecoming a key player in the banking industry\nUpstart provides an artificial intelligence lending platform for banks that identifies risk more accurately than traditional methods. Instead of sorting borrowers into broad, generalized categories that miss individual risk factors, it uses 1,600 data points to assess a borrower's true credit risk. Using its services, banks are able to approve more loans, bringing in more funds with less risk.\nThat's an attractive model, and the company has demonstrated enormous growth since it went public a year ago. Second-quarter revenue increased more than 1,000%, and loans originated increased more than 1,600%. But with revenue of just $194 million in the second quarter, there's still plenty of room to grow. Management expects revenue to increase between 215% and 230% in the third quarter.\nAnd the company says that total U.S. consumer credit was $4.2 trillion for the 12-month period that ended in June, according to data from TransUnion. Responsible for just 0.01% of that, Upstart has a huge addressable market.\nRight now Upstart works predominantly with smaller banks, since the large ones can create their own solutions. And a large portion of its loans are concentrated in two banks -- which on the one hand means it can skyrocket as new banks sign on, but on the other hand means there's some risk attached to relying on two partners. But Upstart is improving in this area: Cross River Bank accounted for 79% of loans in Q2 2020, but only 60% in Q2 2021 as Upstart expanded.\nIn the meantime, the company is already profitable, having turned a profit of $36 million after an $11 million loss in the second quarter of 2020. Another factor to consider is that Upstart caters to the banking industry, but it's not a bank itself, so it has less exposure to the risk that the banks take on. Some 97% of revenue comes from fees without any credit risk.\nUpstart's newest product is Upstart Auto Retail, which it developed after acquiring Prodigy Software in April. The automotive industry is a $1 trillion market, with less than 1% of buyers satisfied with the process. Upstart is taking aim at this market, offering a better way to provide financing that approves more loans with less risk and makes for a better experience for dealers and buyers. It's already making progress: More than $1 billion worth of cars were purchased in the 2021 second quarter using the Upstart Auto Retail platform, which makes for a more transparent process for customers and higher profits for dealers.\nThis is another area where the company could post high growth for a long time.
