However, the performance of retail investor’s favorite stocks is probably the “overriding factor.”\n“Since July, hypergrowth companies and meme stocks have underperformed the S&P by more than 30%, luring less and less retail money,” Onatibia said. “So buying dips in S&P and Nasdaq, while waiting for a better environment for speculative stocks appears to be most retail investors’ plan of attack.”\nWhile the some amateur investors are losing interest in the market, the tried and true retail favorites — before the rise of so-called meme stocks — are still popular among the retail crowd.\nNames like Advanced Micro Devices,NIO,Apple and Tesla were among the most-purchased names by retail investors in the past 5 days, Vanda Research said.\n\nAMD was the most-popular buy among the amateur investing crowd in the past five days, with more than $163 million net retail purchases, Vanda Research said.\nThere was roughly $156.5 million net retail purchases of NIO and nearly $143 million net retail purchased of Apple in the past 5 days. Nearly $52 million worth of shares of Tesla were purchased by retail investors in the past 5 days.\nVaccine makers Pfizer and Moderna are still garnering attention from the retail crowd. Retail investors bought about $155 million and $76.6 million of Pfizer and Moderna, respectively.\nMicron,Sofi Technologies and Alibaba also earned spots on Vanda Research’s list.\nAMC Entrainment is the only meme name that appeared in the top 10 list.
