Unlike prior Marvel releases, Disney also made the film available on its streaming platform Disney+ through Premier Access, a service that allows users to rent it for a <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-time charge of $30 on top of the service's regular subscription fees. </p>\n<p><i>Black Widow</i> earned $78 million from domestic theaters in its opening weekend compared to at least $60 million from Premier Access.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The film's success on Premier Access is a terrible trend for the traditional U.S. movie theater industry. Unlike theatrical releases, Disney won't have to split ticket sales with the theaters, resulting in higher profits for the House of Mouse. Online releases also boost Disney's competitive moat against streaming rivals like <b>Netflix</b> and could help drive subscriber growth.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>It is unclear how long Disney plans to continue its dual-release strategy, but if it becomes permanent (or if other studios follow suit), AMC could become an unnecessary middleman in an industry it once dominated.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>2. Massive cash burn and a deteriorating balance sheet</h2>\n<p>With AMC's future uncertain, investors should pay attention to the company's current performance. That picture isn't pretty. First-quarter revenue tanked 84% to $148 million -- a slight improvement from the fourth quarter (when sales were down 89% against the prior year), but not much evidence of a strong recovery. The company is also burning through cash, reporting negative operating cash flows of $313 million in the period.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>With just $813 million in cash and equivalents on its balance sheet, AMC will probably need to tap the debt and equity markets to sustain operations. And with $5.4 billion in corporate borrowings and $4.9 billion in operating lease liabilities (deferred rent for some of its properties), its balance sheet is already in bad shape.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Considering these challenges, AMC has no business trading for a market cap of $19.5 billion, which represents a jaw-dropping 43 times its 12-month revenue. Even if the company recovered to its pre-pandemic sales figure of $5.5 billion (which looks unlikely), that would give the stock a price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of 3.5, which is quite a premium for a company with a busted balance sheet that struggled to earn consistent profits even before the pandemic. When brick-and-mortar stores closed, Amazon posted record profits, drew more than 200 million Prime loyalty subscribers, and recruited over 500,000 workers to keep up with surging demand.</p>\n<p>Now, the company is facing the tough task of climbing higher still. While revenue grew 44% in the first quarter of this year, that figure dropped to 27% for the period ended June 30. Sales may only grow as much as 16% in the third quarter, Amazon said.</p>\n<p>Brian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer, attributed this to a difficult comparison to last year, when consumers stayed more indoors and relied on e-commerce for their everyday needs. In the United States and Europe, customers are now out and about.</p>\n<p>They are “doing other things besides shopping,” he said.</p>\n<p>Amazon expects this lower growth to continue for the next few quarters, Olsavsky told reporters.</p>\n<p>The outlook comes just after Jassy inherited Amazon’s top job on July 5, which has never been bigger or more complex. Last quarter Amazon announced a deal to buy the film studio MGM for $8.5 billion, expanding in Hollywood at the same time as it is running a grocery chain, building a healthcare business and facing scrutiny from regulators worldwide.</p>\n<p>Olsavsky said the company hopes COVID-19 will subside and that the economy will continue to bounce back, but it will require masks for vaccinated staff if that becomes necessary.</p>\n<p>While other tech companies this week such as Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc announced they will require vaccines for workers returning to their offices, Amazon has yet to announce a vaccine requirement for employees in its offices -- or warehouse workers and drivers.</p>\n<p>Amazon has grappled with workplace tumult in recent months, including staff protests over pandemic safety precautions and a high-profile, failed unionization bid in a facility in Bessemer, Alabama.</p>\n<p>Brian Yarbrough, an analyst with Edward Jones, said it was “not feasible” for Amazon to maintain its growth.</p>\n<p>“No doubt, online retail will probably slow down to that growth somewhere in the 10%-12% range. It’s still phenomenal growth when you think of the sheer size of the business,” he said. “Obviously the pandemic helped them, but they’re not going to be able to grow that rapidly on top of those numbers.”</p>\n<p>LABOR SHORTAGE</p>\n<p>Revenue was $113 billion for the second quarter, shy of analysts’ average estimate of $115 billion.</p>\n<p>The world’s biggest online retailer had moved its annual marketing blitz, Prime Day, to June this year, hoping to peddle more goods before shoppers left town on summer vacations. While it said the event was the biggest two-day sales period ever for merchants on its platform, analysts have witnessed signs of slowing demand.</p>\n<p>North America, Amazon’s largest market, saw sales increase only 22% in the second quarter, versus 43% in the same period a year earlier.</p>\n<p>Amazon Web Services was a bright spot, however. The cloud computing division that Jassy formerly ran grew revenue 37% to $14.8 billion, ahead of estimates of more than $14.1 billion. Among the deals it inked in the just-ended quarter was an agreement with Canada’s BMO Financial Group.</p>\n<p>Profit rose 48% to $7.8 billion, the second-largest quarterly result Amazon ever announced.</p>\n<p>Still, enormous challenges come with Amazon’s size.</p>\n<p>Costs continue to rise, not just from the $200 million in extra stock Amazon plans to pay Jassy over the next 10 years. The company has offered an average $17 in hourly wages - more than double the U.S. minimum - plus signing bonuses to attract 75,000 workers during a labor shortage.</p>\n<p>It has said it planned to hike pay for over half a million employees, costing more than $1 billion, and like other companies, it is facing clogged ports and other disruptions to the transportation supply chain.</p>\n<p>The No.2 U.S. employer this winter became a rallying point for organized labor, which wanted to form Amazon’s first U.S. union and inspire similar efforts across the country. Amazon is awaiting a decision on whether a U.S. National Labor Board director will overturn its landslide victory in the Bessemer, Alabama union election and call for a rerun.</p>\n<p>Following the April vote count, Bezos said he aimed to make Amazon a better place to work. When brick-and-mortar stores closed, Amazon posted record profits, drew more than 200 million Prime loyalty subscribers, and recruited over 500,000 workers to keep up with surging demand.\nNow, the company is facing the tough task of climbing higher still. While revenue grew 44% in the first quarter of this year, that figure dropped to 27% for the period ended June 30. Sales may only grow as much as 16% in the third quarter, Amazon said.\nBrian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer, attributed this to a difficult comparison to last year, when consumers stayed more indoors and relied on e-commerce for their everyday needs. In the United States and Europe, customers are now out and about.\nThey are “doing other things besides shopping,” he said.\nAmazon expects this lower growth to continue for the next few quarters, Olsavsky told reporters.\nThe outlook comes just after Jassy inherited Amazon’s top job on July 5, which has never been bigger or more complex. This year, the company's marketplace is expected to control roughly $0.40 of every $1 spent online in the United States, according to an April report from eMarketer. The next closest competitor is <b>Walmart</b>, which'll handle about 7% of all U.S. online retail.</p>\n<p>Amazon has been able to pivot its incredible online retail success into signing up more than 200 million people worldwide to a Prime membership. While Prime members enjoy free two-day shipping and access to streaming content, the lure for Amazon is that Prime fees generate tens of billions in added revenue that it can use to undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price and buoy its margins.</p>\n<p>What you might not realize about Amazon is that it's overwhelmingly dominant in a second industry, as well. Amazon Web Services (AWS) brought in 32% of global cloud infrastructure spending in the first quarter, per Canalys. Cloud infrastructure is still, arguably, in the early innings of its expansion, and it's a considerably higher margin segment for Amazon than retail or advertising. Thus, AWS is going to send Amazon's operating cash flow to the moon as it grows into a larger percentage of total sales.</p>\n<p>For the past 11 years, Wall Street and investors have consistently valued Amazon at a multiple of 23 to 37 times its cash flow. If this range remains intact, a near-tripling in the stock is possible by mid-decade.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/146ce4600b7c22643629193901a4328a\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Bristol Myers Squibb</h2>\n<p>If value investing suits you better, pharmaceutical stock <b>Bristol Myers Squibb</b> (NYSE:BMY) has the makings of a screaming summer buy.</p>\n<p>The great thing about healthcare stocks is they're highly defensive. Since we don't get to choose when we get sick or what ailments we develop, there's a consistent demand for healthcare services, drugs, and devices, no matter how well or poorly the U.S. and global economy are performing.</p>\n<p>What makes Bristol Myers Squibb such a special company is its organic growth potential and astute dealmaking. To tackle the former, Bristol Myers and <b>Pfizer</b>&nbsp;co-developed the world's leading oral anticoagulant, Eliquis, which looks to be on pace for more than $10 billion in sales this year for Bristol. There's also cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which is being examined in dozens of ongoing clinical trials. Opdivo is already bringing in about $7 billion annually, and could push higher with continued label expansion opportunities. All told, eight brand-name therapies are on track for at least $1.2 billion in annual sales this year, based on extrapolated Q1 sales totals.</p>\n<p>On the dealmaking front, Bristol Myers Squibb hit a home run when it acquired cancer and immunology drugmaker Celgene in 2019. Celgene's superstar is multiple myeloma drug Revlimid, which brought in $12.1 billion in sales last year and has been growing by a double-digit percentage annually for more than a decade. Longer duration of use, label expansions, improved cancer screening diagnostics, and strong pricing power have all fueled Revlimid's growth. Best of all, it's protected from a large wave of generic competition until the end of January 2026. This means Bristol Myers will be basking in significant cash flow for another 4.5 years.</p>\n<p>In a world where valuation premiums are soaring, it seems unjust that a company so profitable should be valued at only 8.5 times Wall Street's consensus earnings for 2022.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8abdae403dddfa42107e06ea5bfddf39\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>General Motors</h2>\n<p>Lastly, if you want a screaming summer buy that's near and dear to Warren Buffett's investment philosophy, consider auto stock <b>General Motors</b> (NYSE:GM).</p>\n<p>Historically, auto stocks are slow-growing companies that sports high levels of debt and are valued at price-to-earnings multiples that are well below the average S&amp;P 500 company. But General Motors and its peers are the verge of taking advantage of an epic vehicle replacement cycle as consumers and businesses make the shift to electric vehicles (EV).</p>\n<p>Initially, General Motors was going to devote $20 billion to EV investment by mid-decade. However, in November, the company upped its expected outlay to $27 billion by 2025, with the ultimate goal of bringing 30 new EVs to market globally. Some of this capital will be used to bring EVs to market earlier than initially planned, as well as to develop GM's battery technology. With IHS <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MRKT\">Markit</a> forecasting that 10% of all U.S. vehicle sales will be electric by 2025 (up from 1.8% in 2020), a hefty investment in this changing landscape makes sense for GM.</p>\n<p>Equally important are the company's ambitions overseas -- especially in China, the largest auto market in the world. By 2035, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China anticipates that half of all vehicle sales will be some form of alternative energy. Since we don't get to choose when we get sick or what ailments we develop, there's a consistent demand for healthcare services, drugs, and devices, no matter how well or poorly the U.S. and global economy are performing.\nWhat makes Bristol Myers Squibb such a special company is its organic growth potential and astute dealmaking. To tackle the former, Bristol Myers and Pfizer co-developed the world's leading oral anticoagulant, Eliquis, which looks to be on pace for more than $10 billion in sales this year for Bristol. There's also cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which is being examined in dozens of ongoing clinical trials. Opdivo is already bringing in about $7 billion annually, and could push higher with continued label expansion opportunities. All told, eight brand-name therapies are on track for at least $1.2 billion in annual sales this year, based on extrapolated Q1 sales totals.\nOn the dealmaking front, Bristol Myers Squibb hit a home run when it acquired cancer and immunology drugmaker Celgene in 2019. Celgene's superstar is multiple myeloma drug Revlimid, which brought in $12.1 billion in sales last year and has been growing by a double-digit percentage annually for more than a decade. Longer duration of use, label expansions, improved cancer screening diagnostics, and strong pricing power have all fueled Revlimid's growth. Best of all, it's protected from a large wave of generic competition until the end of January 2026. This means Bristol Myers will be basking in significant cash flow for another 4.5 years.\nIn a world where valuation premiums are soaring, it seems unjust that a company so profitable should be valued at only 8.5 times Wall Street's consensus earnings for 2022.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nGeneral Motors\nLastly, if you want a screaming summer buy that's near and dear to Warren Buffett's investment philosophy, consider auto stock General Motors (NYSE:GM).\nHistorically, auto stocks are slow-growing companies that sports high levels of debt and are valued at price-to-earnings multiples that are well below the average S&P 500 company. But General Motors and its peers are the verge of taking advantage of an epic vehicle replacement cycle as consumers and businesses make the shift to electric vehicles (EV).\nInitially, General Motors was going to devote $20 billion to EV investment by mid-decade. However, in November, the company upped its expected outlay to $27 billion by 2025, with the ultimate goal of bringing 30 new EVs to market globally. Some of this capital will be used to bring EVs to market earlier than initially planned, as well as to develop GM's battery technology. With IHS Markit forecasting that 10% of all U.S. vehicle sales will be electric by 2025 (up from 1.8% in 2020), a hefty investment in this changing landscape makes sense for GM.\nEqually important are the company's ambitions overseas -- especially in China, the largest auto market in the world. By 2035, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China anticipates that half of all vehicle sales will be some form of alternative energy. Through the first-half of 2021, GM delivered more than 1.5 million vehicles in China.  With an established presence, existing infrastructure, and well-known branding, GM has a real shot at becoming an EV leader in China.\nA forward-year price-to-earnings ratio of 8 simply doesn't convey the multi-decade growth opportunity that's on GM's doorstep.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":23,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":false}
