href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMD\">AMD</a>).</p>\n<p>At the time, I said AMD was a better buy than Nvidia because I believed it was better insulated from macro headwinds, it would benefit from the arrivals of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, and it would continue to grow its market share against <b>Intel </b>(NASDAQ:INTC).</p>\n<p>However, Nvidia's stock price has rallied nearly 150% since I wrote that article, while AMD's stock has only advanced about 70%. Let's take a fresh look at both chipmakers to see if I made the wrong call last year.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9c23cc7b86d5f4cdb564f53ac3e85040\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1125\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<h2>What I got wrong about Nvidia</h2>\n<p>I had expected Nvidia's gaming and data center GPU businesses, which both experienced strong growth during the pandemic, to lose their momentum as the pandemic passed, people played fewer games, and data centers faced less pressure to upgrade their AI-processing servers. But that slowdown never happened.</p>\n<p>Nvidia's revenue rose 53% to $16.7 billion in fiscal 2021, which ended back in January. That growth was led by its gaming and data center businesses, which easily offset the slower growth of its auto, professional visualization, and OEM businesses. Its adjusted gross margin expanded 310 basis points to 65.6%, while its adjusted net income surged 75% to $6.3 billion.</p>\n<p>In the first nine months of fiscal 2022, Nvidia's revenue grew 65% year over year to $19.3 billion. Its gaming and data center businesses continued to grow, while its auto, professional visualization, and OEM segments all recovered as the pandemic-related headwinds waned. Its data center business also benefited from its takeover of the data center networking equipment maker Mellanox last April. Its adjusted gross margin rose 90 basis points year over year to 66.6%, and its adjusted net income jumped 83% to $7.9 billion.</p>\n<p>Analysts expect Nvidia's revenue and earnings to grow 60% and 74%, respectively, for the full year. Those estimates notably don't factor in the potential success or failure of its $40 billion takeover bid for Arm Holdings from <b>Softbank</b>, which could be stuck in regulatory limbo&nbsp;for the foreseeable future.</p>\n<h2>What I got wrong about AMD</h2>\n<p>AMD performed very well&nbsp;over the past year, but it didn't actually gain much ground against Intel in the CPU market. Between the fourth quarters of 2020 and 2021, Intel's market share rose from 61.5% to 62.1%, according to PassMark, while AMD's share dipped from 38.5% to 37.8%.</p>\n<p>AMD's share of the discrete GPU market also dipped from 20% to 17% between the third quarters of 2020 and 2021, according to JPR. Nvidia's share rose from 80% to 83%. AMD benefited from robust sales of <b>Sony</b>&nbsp;and <b>Microsoft</b>'s new gaming consoles this year, but the ongoing supply chain shortages are capping those gains.</p>\n<p>Yet AMD continues to grow. Last year, its revenue rose 45% to $9.76 billion, Its adjusted gross margin expanded two percentage points to 45%, and its adjusted net income more than doubled to $1.58 billion.</p>\n<p>In the first nine months of 2021, its revenue grew 78% year-over-year to $11.6 billion, its adjusted gross margin rose from 44% to 47%, and its adjusted net income soared 146% to $2.31 billion. It attributed most of that growth to robust sales of its Ryzen CPUs for PCs and Epyc CPUs for servers.</p>\n<p>Analysts expect AMD's revenue and adjusted earnings to increase 65% and 104%, respectively, for the full year. Those estimates don't include its planned purchase of <b>Xilinx</b> (NASDAQ:XLNX), which will complement its Eypc data center business with programmable chips.</p>\n<h2>The valuations and upcoming challenges</h2>\n<p>Nvidia trades at 62 times forward earnings, while AMD has a lower forward price-to-earnings ratio of 46. Analysts expect both chipmakers to generate slower growth next year, but Nvidia might have more catalysts than AMD.</p>\n<p>Nvidia's core GPU business remains far ahead of AMD's, and the secular strength of the gaming and data center markets -- along with the recovery of its smaller end markets -- should support its long-term growth.</p>\n<p>AMD is still a thorn in Intel's side, and it remains ahead of its larger CPU rival in the \"process race\" to create smaller and more advanced chips because it outsources its production to <b>Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing</b> (NYSE:TSM). However, that balance could eventually shift as Intel doubles down on its own first-party manufacturing efforts and tries to catch up to TSMC.</p>\n<p>That looming threat, along with intense competition from Nvidia in the GPU market, could be preventing investors from paying a higher premium for AMD's stock, even though it's growing at a comparable rate as Nvidia.</p>\n<p>AMD's planned takeover of Xilinx, which mirrors Intel's takeover of Altera six years ago, is also arguably more important to its long-term growth plans than Nvidia's planned purchase of Arm -- which would merely complement its existing business with new CPU design and licensing capabilities.</p>\n<h2>The winner: Nvidia</h2>\n<p>Both chipmakers are still great long-term growth plays. In today’s digital world, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for movie theater chains like AMC Entertainment to resist headwinds fueled by new streaming services.</p>\n<p>If you are investor whose portfolio can handle the thrill of speculation, then you might want to consider having a small exposure to AMC shares. Otherwise, you should possibly put your capital into other robust companies that have solid growth prospects. However, they fared better than AMC Entertainment. In fact, until recently the Street seemed ready to write off AMC stock on its way to bankruptcy.</p>\n<p>In early May, the theater group released&nbsp;Q1&nbsp;metrics. Management highlighted that as of March 31, “AMC was operating at 585 domestic theaters with limited seating capacities of between 15% and 60%, representing approximately 99% of domestic theaters.”</p>\n<p>During the quarter, AMC’s revenues declined about 84% year-over-year to $148 million. Net loss of $567 million was in fact an improvement, compared to $2.18 billion in the prior-year quarter. However, AMC burned through $313 million in cash.</p>\n<p>CEO Adam Aron commented, “Strengthening AMC’s liquidity position and balance sheet remains very high priorities, and we have been active across the board. Over the past five months, AMC has raised right around $2 billion in fresh equity and debt capital, including the conversion of $600 million of convertible notes into equity at a price of $13.51 per share.”</p>\n<p>Since the release of the results, AMC stock has gone from around $10 to the current price of nearly $60. The market capitalization is close $29 billion. Its price-sales ratio of 24.2x points to a frothy valuation level. However, retail traders, fueled by the social media frenzy, seem to have made a handshake agreement to hold and not sell the shares.</p>\n<p><b>AMC Entertainment Operates In a Stagnant Industry</b></p>\n<p>Now that the pandemic seems to be waning, the bull argument is that movie theaters are opening up and that AMC can gain back a significant portion of sales as its theaters reopen. A surge in moviegoers could, in fact, generate positive cash flow even if the company remains unprofitable.</p>\n<p>However, the pandemic has led to increasing uncertainty about the future of the movie theatre industry. According to&nbsp;IBISWorld, “The market size of the movie theaters industry in the U.S. has declined 19.1% per year on average between 2016 and 2021.”</p>\n<p>Put another way, the movie business was already struggling to generate profits before the pandemic as movie crowds were staying away. Movie tickets sold in the U.S. have been falling consistently since the 2002 peak of close to&nbsp;1.6 billion.</p>\n<p>Moreover, streaming got more popular than ever during the pandemic as the main form of entertainment at home. So far, despite the opening of the economy, many people seem to keep their streaming subscriptions. This would understandably constitute a significant headwind for theater operators like AMC, whose recovery will likely be capped by the overall downturn in the movie industry.</p>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line on AMC Stock</b></p>\n<p>The $2 billion capital AMC has recently raised might offer some breathing space for recovery of operation in the coming months. However, AMC stock’s overvalued share price does not reflect an improvement in its underlying business. The company accumulated $5.5 billion in debt during the pandemic. Of course, many people have lost money as these meme stocks skyrocket and then crash and burn in quick succession.</p>\n<p>Here are four of the most popular meme stocks that aren’t worth the hype.</p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>BlackBerry</b>(NYSE:<b><u>BB</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Zomedica</b>(NYSEAMERICAN:<b><u>ZOM</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Koss</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>KOSS</u></b>)</li>\n <li><b>Churchill Capital IV</b>(NYSE:<b><u>CCIV</u></b>)</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Meme Stocks to Avoid: BlackBerry (BB)</b></p>\n<p>It’s been nearly 15 years since BlackBerry was a significant technology company.</p>\n<p>The&nbsp;once-dominant&nbsp;Canadian smartphone manufacturer was knocked off its perch when&nbsp;<b>Apple</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>APPL</u></b>) debuted the iPhone back in 2007.</p>\n<p>As a glut of other competitors entered the market, BlackBerry was forced to abandon smartphones altogether, although it still licenses its name to a small percentage of phones manufactured and sold in Asia.</p>\n<p>Today, BlackBerry has reinvented itself as an enterprise software and the Internet of Things (IoT) company. BlackBerry focuses much of its resources these days on making software for self-driving vehicles.</p>\n<p>However, the reinvention has only been mildly successful. BlackBerry continues to struggle in markets outside its native Canada and the company’s financial results continue to underwhelm investors. At the end of March, BlackBerry reported a$315-million lossfor its fiscal fourth quarter. Revenue for the quarter came in at&nbsp; $210 million, down from $282 million the previous year.</p>\n<p>BB stock has been a disappointment too, barely moving over the past year. However, the stock spiked 237% in January when it briefly became one of the meme stocks and targeted by r/WallStreetBets. The jump was short lived, of course, and today the stock is back down to $8.60 a share, about the same level it was at toward the end of 2020.</p>\n<p>Still, January’s sharp move higher prompted several BlackBerry executives to&nbsp;sell their stock&nbsp;in the company. Other shareholders should do the same.</p>\n<p><b>Zomedica (ZOM)</b></p>\n<p>There’s no question that people love their pets, and that love seems to have only grown stronger during the pandemic as people stayed home with their cats and dogs.</p>\n<p>Just because people love their pets doesn’t mean they should gamble on&nbsp;animal healthcare company Zomedica. In many ways Zomedica is a classic meme stock, the type of unproven, completely speculative bet the WallStreetBets crowd loves to champion and push higher.</p>\n<p>This accounts for why ZOM stock gained 731% between Jan. 4 and Feb. 8 of this year, rising from just $0.35 to a peak of $2.91.</p>\n<p>Make no mistake, there was nothing to justify the move upwards in ZOM stock other than irrational exuberance.</p>\n<p>Consider that Zomedica didn’t earn any revenue in 2020. Zilch. On top of that, Zomedica posted a net loss of nearly $17 million for last year.</p>\n<p>The company has all of its eggs placed in its“Truforma” platform, an animal diagnostic tool that it hopes to sell to veterinarians across the U.S.</p>\n<p>While Zomedica forecasts that the animal diagnostics market could be worth $5.4 billion by 2026, there’s no indication that it will get a large share of that market.</p>\n<p>ZOM stock is currently trading at $1.46 a share, down 50% from its February high. Buyer beware!</p>\n<p><b>Meme Stocks to Avoid:&nbsp;Koss (KOSS)</b></p>\n<p>Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Koss, which designs and manufactures headphones, has had a wilder ride than most meme stocks this year.</p>\n<p>On Jan. 15, KOSS stock closed the trading day at $2.90 a share. On the 29, the stock finished trading at $64. That’s an increase of 2,107% in a two week span. At one point, the stock hit an intra-day high of $127.45 per share.</p>\n<p>By late February, Koss’ share price had crashed down to $11.90 and today the stock is worth $23.20 a share. The gigantic price moves have gotten Koss labelled as a prototypical meme stock, with critics saying that it has been&nbsp;pumped and dumped&nbsp;several times by the Reddit mob.</p>\n<p>There hasn’t been much to push KOSS stock higher beyond it being targeted on social media. Koss is a completely average company.</p>\n<p>While its headphones are functional and garner generally favourable reviews, the company struggles to compete in the space against titans such as Apple and&nbsp;<b>Sony</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:<b><u>SONY</u></b>),and Koss is far from being a household name: Beats by Dre they ain’t.</p>\n<p>In fact, Koss has been in business since 1958 and even&nbsp;filed for bankruptcy&nbsp;back in 1984. The company has always struggled to maintain market share. It has consistently been a&nbsp;penny stock&nbsp;since the mid-1980s, and there’s no reason to believe that it can maintain its current lofty valuation over the long-term.</p>\n<p><b>Churchill Capital IV (CCIV)</b></p>\n<p>Among special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC), Churchill Capital IV stands out for all the wrong reasons.</p>\n<p>Before the shell company announced the target it planned to merge with and bring public, CCIV stock rose 547% based solely on wild speculation. After cresting at a high of $64.86 on Feb. 18, the stock has&nbsp;come down&nbsp;63% and is now stuck under $25.</p>\n<p>Ironically, the share price crashed after Churchill Capital announced on Feb. 22 that it would merge with&nbsp;electric vehicle maker&nbsp;Lucid Motors, a company that many analysts views as viable competitor to market leader&nbsp;<b>Tesla</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<b><u>TSLA</u></b>).</p>\n<p>The same investors who were keen to pump up CCIV stock seemed equally eager to sell once the Lucid Motors deal was formally announced. A broad rotation out of technology stocks and&nbsp;mounting fatigue&nbsp;over the sheer number of SPAC deals coming to market this year didn’t help matters.</p>\n<p>It remains to be seen if Lucid Motors stock will ultimately be successful once it begins trading under the&nbsp;ticker symbol“LCID” by June 30 of this year, subject to shareholder approval of the deal. Of course, many people have lost money as these meme stocks skyrocket and then crash and burn in quick succession.\nHere are four of the most popular meme stocks that aren’t worth the hype.\n\nBlackBerry(NYSE:BB)\nZomedica(NYSEAMERICAN:ZOM)\nKoss(NASDAQ:KOSS)\nChurchill Capital IV(NYSE:CCIV)\n\nMeme Stocks to Avoid: BlackBerry (BB)\nIt’s been nearly 15 years since BlackBerry was a significant technology company.\nThe once-dominant Canadian smartphone manufacturer was knocked off its perch when Apple(NASDAQ:APPL) debuted the iPhone back in 2007.\nAs a glut of other competitors entered the market, BlackBerry was forced to abandon smartphones altogether, although it still licenses its name to a small percentage of phones manufactured and sold in Asia.\nToday, BlackBerry has reinvented itself as an enterprise software and the Internet of Things (IoT) company. BlackBerry focuses much of its resources these days on making software for self-driving vehicles.\nHowever, the reinvention has only been mildly successful. BlackBerry continues to struggle in markets outside its native Canada and the company’s financial results continue to underwhelm investors. At the end of March, BlackBerry reported a$315-million lossfor its fiscal fourth quarter. Revenue for the quarter came in at  $210 million, down from $282 million the previous year.\nBB stock has been a disappointment too, barely moving over the past year. However, the stock spiked 237% in January when it briefly became one of the meme stocks and targeted by r/WallStreetBets. The jump was short lived, of course, and today the stock is back down to $8.60 a share, about the same level it was at toward the end of 2020.\nStill, January’s sharp move higher prompted several BlackBerry executives to sell their stock in the company. Other shareholders should do the same.\nZomedica (ZOM)\nThere’s no question that people love their pets, and that love seems to have only grown stronger during the pandemic as people stayed home with their cats and dogs.\nJust because people love their pets doesn’t mean they should gamble on animal healthcare company Zomedica. In many ways Zomedica is a classic meme stock, the type of unproven, completely speculative bet the WallStreetBets crowd loves to champion and push higher.\nThis accounts for why ZOM stock gained 731% between Jan. 4 and Feb. 8 of this year, rising from just $0.35 to a peak of $2.91.\nMake no mistake, there was nothing to justify the move upwards in ZOM stock other than irrational exuberance.\nConsider that Zomedica didn’t earn any revenue in 2020. Zilch. On top of that, Zomedica posted a net loss of nearly $17 million for last year.\nThe company has all of its eggs placed in its“Truforma” platform, an animal diagnostic tool that it hopes to sell to veterinarians across the U.S.\nWhile Zomedica forecasts that the animal diagnostics market could be worth $5.4 billion by 2026, there’s no indication that it will get a large share of that market.\nZOM stock is currently trading at $1.46 a share, down 50% from its February high. Buyer beware!\nMeme Stocks to Avoid: Koss (KOSS)\nMilwaukee, Wisconsin-based Koss, which designs and manufactures headphones, has had a wilder ride than most meme stocks this year.\nOn Jan. 15, KOSS stock closed the trading day at $2.90 a share. On the 29, the stock finished trading at $64. That’s an increase of 2,107% in a two week span. At one point, the stock hit an intra-day high of $127.45 per share.\nBy late February, Koss’ share price had crashed down to $11.90 and today the stock is worth $23.20 a share. The gigantic price moves have gotten Koss labelled as a prototypical meme stock, with critics saying that it has been pumped and dumped several times by the Reddit mob.\nThere hasn’t been much to push KOSS stock higher beyond it being targeted on social media. Koss is a completely average company.\nWhile its headphones are functional and garner generally favourable reviews, the company struggles to compete in the space against titans such as Apple and Sony (NYSE:SONY),and Koss is far from being a household name: Beats by Dre they ain’t.\nIn fact, Koss has been in business since 1958 and even filed for bankruptcy back in 1984. The company has always struggled to maintain market share.
