It was last down 1.4% at $1,738.</p>\n<p>Brent also sank 2% on concerns the spread of the Delta variant would temper travel demand.</p>\n<p>Holidays in Tokyo and Singapore made for thin trading conditions, leaving MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan down 0.5%.</p>\n<p>Japan's Nikkei was shut but futures were trading 100 points below Friday's close. Nasdaq futures slipped 0.4% and S&amp;P 500 futures&nbsp;0.3%.</p>\n<p>Chinese trade data out over the weekend undershot forecasts, while figures out Monday showed inflation slowed to 1% in July offering no barrier to more policy stimulus.</p>\n<p>China's blue chips index were a fraction firmer.</p>\n<p>The U.S. Senate came closer to passing a $1 trillion infrastructure package, though it still has to go through the House.</p>\n<p>Investors were still assessing whether Friday's strong U.S. payrolls report would take the Federal Reserve a step nearer to winding back its stimulus.</p>\n<p>\"There is not a lot of disagreement on a taper announcement coming sometime between September-December followed by actual tapering sometime between November and January,\" said Rodrigo Catril, a senior FX strategist at NAB.</p>\n<p>However, the pace of tapering was still up in the air and would decide when an actual rate hike came, he said. The Fed is currently buying $120 billion of assets a month, so a $20 billion taper would end the programme in six months whilst a $10 billion tapering approach would take a year.</p>\n<p>The spread of the Delta variant could argue for a longer taper with U.S. cases back to levels seen in last winter's surge with more than 66,000 people hospitalised.</p>\n<p>Figures for July CPI due this week are also expected to confirm inflation has peaked, with prices for second hand vehicles finally easing back after huge gains.</p>\n<p>There are four Fed officials speaking this week and will no doubt offer their own take on tapering.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, stocks have been mostly underpinned by a robust U.S. earnings season. It was last down 1.4% at $1,738.</p>\n<p>Brent also sank 2% on concerns the spread of the Delta variant would temper travel demand.</p>\n<p>Holidays in Tokyo and Singapore made for thin trading conditions, leaving MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan down 0.5%.</p>\n<p>Japan's Nikkei was shut but futures were trading 100 points below Friday's close. Nasdaq futures slipped 0.4% and S&amp;P 500 futures&nbsp;0.3%.</p>\n<p>Chinese trade data out over the weekend undershot forecasts, while figures out Monday showed inflation slowed to 1% in July offering no barrier to more policy stimulus.</p>\n<p>China's blue chips index were a fraction firmer.</p>\n<p>The U.S. Senate came closer to passing a $1 trillion infrastructure package, though it still has to go through the House.</p>\n<p>Investors were still assessing whether Friday's strong U.S. payrolls report would take the Federal Reserve a step nearer to winding back its stimulus.</p>\n<p>\"There is not a lot of disagreement on a taper announcement coming sometime between September-December followed by actual tapering sometime between November and January,\" said Rodrigo Catril, a senior FX strategist at NAB.</p>\n<p>However, the pace of tapering was still up in the air and would decide when an actual rate hike came, he said. (VST)\n\n[Sign up for stock news with our Invested newsletter.]\nEPR Properties (EPR)\nDividend yield:5.7%\nEPR is a leading \"net lease\" real estate investment trust, meaning it demands clients pay for ancillary expenses like maintenance or insurance on the properties while it just cashes the rent check. It's not a shopping mall or residential real estate firm, however, and focuses on \"out of home leisure and recreation experiences,\" including movie theaters, beach resorts and ski slopes across more than 40 states. Obviously, with the overall easing of coronavirus restrictions, EPR has been seeing a huge recovery to its business compared with its performance last summer in the throes of lockdowns. Shares are up about 60% year to date, and EPR just resumed a 25 cent quarterly dividend in July. That bodes well both for future performance and future dividends.\nNavient Corp. (NAVI)\nDividend yield:3.2%\nStudent loan provider Navient was not exactly a popular stock a year or two ago amid political discussions ofstudent debtforgiveness, which were followed closely by fears of an economic downturn caused by coronavirus disruptions that would upset the payments of young graduates. The financial firm's quarterly dividend of 16 cents, however, went uninterrupted throughout the upheaval, and now NAVI stock is facing an uptrend considering that both the economic and political outlook have improved. Shares are up a huge 150% or so in the last 12 months, and it still offers a dividend that's more than twice the S&P 500, even after that run.\nPfizer Inc. (PFE)\nDividend yield:3.6%\nBig Pharma mainstay Pfizer has outperformed the broader stock market slightly in 2021, continuing to ride high on its high-profile success developing an effective coronavirus vaccine. Given the risk posed by variants of the disease, along with a continued push to vaccinate worldwide now that many developed markets have gotten their shots, investors could continue to see a decent tailwind for PFE in the near term. On top of that, don't forget this $240 billion drugmaker remains one of the most dominanthealth care companieson the planet, and one of the most reliable dividend stocks out there with an amazing streak of 330 consecutive quarterly dividends paid to shareholders.\nVedanta Ltd. (VEDL)\nDividend yield:5.1%\nVedanta is an India-based industrial conglomerate that operates a diversified natural resources business spanning oil and gas production as well as coal,silverandcoppermining. It also takes the energy sources it extracts and operates power generation facilities, operating an arm that is a major electric utility in the nation. Given that this stock is in an emerging market and not as large as other materials stocks at only about $14 billion, there's a bit more risk here than in other similar stocks. But with a generous dividend and rising revenues, thanks to the global economic recovery, this stock has been a top performer lately with year-to-date returns of more than 60% in 2021.\nVistra Corp. (VST)\nDividend yield:3.1%\nA Texas-based utility company, Vistra is an electricity provider -- one of the most stable businesses on Wall Street. But VST also has modest growth potential as it operates in six of the seven wholesale markets where utilities compete for customers, thanks to deregulation. Right now, it has nearly 5 million residential, commercial and industrial connections in about 20 states. Additionally, it announced construction of a 1,600 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in California, which has captivated investors. But a combination of prudent spending and investing can help these overlapping groups of people get through a period of uncertainty brought about by pent-up demand and supply shortages.</p>\n<p>Below are two lists of 19 dividend stocks with attractive yields -- companies that are expected to have plenty of cash flow to cover dividend increases or other actions that may be good for shareholders, including stock repurchases and business expansion.</p>\n<p>The consumer price index rose by 0.9% in only <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> month . It's easy to say that you shouldn't buy a car or truck this year. The incredible demand for used vehicles has led to a shortage for many of the most popular new ones, which means dealers will be less likely to haggle.</p>\n<p>Of course you might be in a pickle and need to get another car or truck at the worst time, but maybe you can make a modest selection this time. You might also delay a plan to sell your home and move into a bigger <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>, considering that every other national housing boom you have ever witnessed has eventually cooled. In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA.U\">Two</a> dividend stock screens</p>\n<p>What do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.</p>\n<p>Here's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&amp;P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.</p>\n<p>For this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&amp;P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&amp;P 500 , the S&amp;P Mid Cap 400 Index <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MID\">$(MID)$</a> and the S&amp;P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.</p>\n<p>Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)</p>\n<p>Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.</p>\n<p>Starting with the S&amp;P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. Ordinarily that would appear to be plenty of headroom to support the dividend. But it implies a payout ratio of 62%, which is much higher than the ratio of the current yield to the forward FCF yield.</p>\n<p>REITs</p>\n<p>For a second screen of real estate investment trusts, we used funds from operations (FFO) instead of free cash flow. FFO adds depreciation on real estate to earnings and nets out gains or losses on the sale of property. Beginning with the S&amp;P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&amp;P 500 , the S&amp;P Mid Cap 400 Index <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MID\">$(MID)$</a> and the S&amp;P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.</p>\n<p>Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)</p>\n<p>Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group.
