The company's first five virtual reality acquisitions were not questioned by the FTC, but the Supernatural acquisition is getting another look, as the FTC, under Chairman Lina Khan, wants to make sure Meta (FB) and other large tech companies do not harm the next computing platforms by buying companies that could become rivals.\nMeta's (FB) most notable acquisition in the VR space was its 2014 purchase of Oculus for $2 billion and since then, it has become one of the most dominant VR device makers.\nKhan and the FTC could look into whether Meta (FB) was going to develop a fitness app that would compete with Supernatural, the news outlet added. However Meta and Facebook did not previously expect fitness to be important for virtual reality, as it has surged in popularity following the launch of the Oculus Quest in 2019 and during the pandemic.\nMeta views Supernatural as competing with other fitness companies and equipment such as Peloton(NASDAQ:PTON), Mirror(NASDAQ:LULU)and Tonal, The Information added.\nSeeking Alpha has reached out to the FTC, Meta Platforms (FB) and Within, the maker of Supernatural, with a request for comment.\nAccording to IDC, Facebook (FB) helped grow the VR device market in the second-quarter to 2.2 million units, up 136.4% year-over-year.
