And what a boom we've enjoyed! Since the bottom of the Great Recession, the S&P 500 has quadrupled in value.</p>\n<p>2020's pandemic-driven 34% drop in the stock indexes within the span of just a few weeks was the worst on record. But savvy investors don't have to worry. These events are not a problem when you're invested in the right companies. Being prepared for the worst and hoping for the best means when the next stock market crash or correction occurs, you'll want to have your money invested in stocks that will help lead the way forward. Here are two tech stocks you'll want to buy.</p>\n<h2>1. Apple</h2>\n<p>The burden that inflation is imposing on consumers also poses a threat to some of the biggest, best-run businesses, like <b>Apple</b> (NASDAQ:AAPL), which is currently benefiting from the smartphone upgrade cycle and the rollout of 5G network infrastructure. Any attempt by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to contain runaway inflation could cause an economic slowdown by making money more expensive to borrow. Stock valuations would also turn lower.</p>\n<p>That's not necessarily bad news for investors who might find Apple's $2.8 trillion valuation a bit rich to buy into at the moment. The stock trades at 30 times trailing earnings, or about double its typical multiple. A correction would bring Apple back into the realm of the attainable, even as its business continues jogging forward.</p>\n<p>Sales of the iPhone 13 are outpacing those of the iPhone 12 at the same time, but Apple reportedly warned suppliers that demand is waning as the calendar year progresses. It's not necessarily for a lack of consumer desire, but rather the global supply chain constraints that have made it difficult to find the product. Apple previously cut its iPhone production target by 10 million units from its original goal of 90 million.</p>\n<p>Analysts think many consumers may choose to forgo the iPhone 13 and wait for the next upgrade. Coupled with a market crash, that could put Apple stock at a very attractive entry point with pent-up demand for the next iteration of the iPhone.</p>\n<h2>2. Amazon</h2>\n<p>Few companies are as essential to the working of the U.S. economy as <b>Amazon</b> (NASDAQ:AMZN). It will account for 41.4% of all online spending in the U.S. this year, according to eMarketer estimates. At the same time, Amazon Web Services (AWS), its cloud infrastructure business, is on track to generate over $60 billion in annual revenue in 2021 based on its year-to-date performance. The company is responsible for thousands of web-based businesses and the federal government's ability to remain online, making Amazon crucial to a well-functioning economy.</p>\n<p>That won't change if the stock market collapses. Its share of U.S. retail e-commerce sales will be more than 50% larger than the shares of the next nine e-commerce companies combined. Amazon's piece of the online market is nearly six times more than <b>Walmart</b>'s second-place share at just 7.2%, and 10 times greater than third-place <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/EBAY\">eBay</a></b>. E-commerce data tracker Edge by Ascential expects Amazon will see $26.7 billion just in online grocery sales five from now years, or nearly double its current amount.</p>\n<p>Amid rising prices and supply chain woes, Amazon has become a lifeline for many, and that will continue long after any financial restructuring. The stock gained 76% during the first year of the pandemic and took a breather during the reopening of the economy. Amazon shares have been relatively flat all year long. Its share of U.S. retail e-commerce sales will be more than 50% larger than the shares of the next nine e-commerce companies combined. But with BB stock down 8.9% in the last month and investors getting ready to turn the page on 2021, should speculative investors remain patient while BlackBerry’s business model comes to fruition?</p>\n<p>That’s a tough ask, but that’s different from saying it’s impossible. Right now, BB stock has a couple of long-term catalysts. However, investors looking at its current fundamentals may be scared away.</p>\n<p>Year-over-year revenue for the company’s first two quarters is down 26%. Help could be on the way in the form of revenue that the company intends to receive by selling many of its mobile device patents.</p>\n<p>It’s not surprising that BlackBerry is cutting ties from the namesake mobile device that made the company a household name. However, the emergence of the smartphone ended BlackBerry’s supremacy. Selling off the intellectual property will add some much needed revenue to the bottom-line.</p>\n<p>But the deal has taken some time and based on recent price action, investors are losing patience. Nevertheless, when the company last reported earnings, Chief Executive Officer John Chen said there was an 80% chance that the sale would be completed by the quarter’s end, which will occur in February 2022.</p>\n<p>The larger question, however, is how long investors will have to wait for the company’s other business units to deliver revenue.</p>\n<p><b>BlackBerry’s Future is Also Its Past</b></p>\n<p>I’ve always said I’m old enough to remember when the BlackBerry was a status symbol. But aside from being the precursor to our current smartphone addiction, many people loved the safety and security of their BlackBerry devices.</p>\n<p>This focus on cybersecurity is not just part of BlackBerry’s past, but it’s also a key element of the company’s future. In fact, cybersecurity solutions from BlackBerry QNX accounts for nearly 66% of BlackBerry’s revenue. And the global cybersecurity market is expected to be valued at $345.4 billion by 2026. As it is currently valued at $183.34 billion, that’s an increase of around 88% in the next five years.</p>\n<p>That’s not the only catalyst for BlackBerry. The company is also competing in the autonomous vehicle space with its Intelligent Vehicle Data Platform (IVY). This is a scalable, cloud-connected software program that BlackBerry is offering as a universal solution for connected vehicles. According to BlackBerry, the IVY system delivers on three key objectives.</p>\n<p>First, it accelerates development of “new in-vehicle customer experiences.” It also opens opportunities for connected vehicle manufacturers to expand their community of app developers. And it does all of that while streamlining costs.</p>\n<p>However, the real payoff for IVY won’t take place until automated vehicles become a reality. While analysts may disagree on the exact length of time for that to happen, it’s measured in years, not months.</p>\n<p><b>Analysts Are Sending Mixed Messages</b></p>\n<p>The consensus rating for BB stock is a Sell. However, analysts put the consensus 12-month price target for BlackBerry at $9.40. That’s a $7.67 upside. That means if there is a broader sell-off investors may want to consider buying BlackBerry at around $7.60.</p>\n<p>That would be in-line with the stock’s most recent rating from Paul Treiber of the Royal Bank of Canada. On Dec. 17, Treiber gave the stock an Underperform rating with a $7.50 price target.</p>\n<p>However, after a sharp selloff, BB stock is presenting investors with a potentially bullish technical pattern that may allow the stock to move higher, particularly if it beats expectations when it reports earnings.</p>\n<p><b>Can BB Stock Get it Right?</b></p>\n<p>I don’t currently own BB stock, but it is one of the meme stocks that I find intriguing. That’s because its underlying business plan has potential. However, it’s likely to be several years before that potential is realized. Right now, BB stock has a couple of long-term catalysts. However, investors looking at its current fundamentals may be scared away.\nYear-over-year revenue for the company’s first two quarters is down 26%. Help could be on the way in the form of revenue that the company intends to receive by selling many of its mobile device patents.\nIt’s not surprising that BlackBerry is cutting ties from the namesake mobile device that made the company a household name. However, the emergence of the smartphone ended BlackBerry’s supremacy. Selling off the intellectual property will add some much needed revenue to the bottom-line.\nBut the deal has taken some time and based on recent price action, investors are losing patience. Nevertheless, when the company last reported earnings, Chief Executive Officer John Chen said there was an 80% chance that the sale would be completed by the quarter’s end, which will occur in February 2022.\nThe larger question, however, is how long investors will have to wait for the company’s other business units to deliver revenue.\nBlackBerry’s Future is Also Its Past\nI’ve always said I’m old enough to remember when the BlackBerry was a status symbol. But aside from being the precursor to our current smartphone addiction, many people loved the safety and security of their BlackBerry devices.\nThis focus on cybersecurity is not just part of BlackBerry’s past, but it’s also a key element of the company’s future. In fact, cybersecurity solutions from BlackBerry QNX accounts for nearly 66% of BlackBerry’s revenue. And the global cybersecurity market is expected to be valued at $345.4 billion by 2026. As it is currently valued at $183.34 billion, that’s an increase of around 88% in the next five years.\nThat’s not the only catalyst for BlackBerry. The company is also competing in the autonomous vehicle space with its Intelligent Vehicle Data Platform (IVY). This is a scalable, cloud-connected software program that BlackBerry is offering as a universal solution for connected vehicles. According to BlackBerry, the IVY system delivers on three key objectives.\nFirst, it accelerates development of “new in-vehicle customer experiences.” It also opens opportunities for connected vehicle manufacturers to expand their community of app developers. And it does all of that while streamlining costs.\nHowever, the real payoff for IVY won’t take place until automated vehicles become a reality. While analysts may disagree on the exact length of time for that to happen, it’s measured in years, not months.\nAnalysts Are Sending Mixed Messages\nThe consensus rating for BB stock is a Sell. However, analysts put the consensus 12-month price target for BlackBerry at $9.40. That’s a $7.67 upside. That means if there is a broader sell-off investors may want to consider buying BlackBerry at around $7.60.\nThat would be in-line with the stock’s most recent rating from Paul Treiber of the Royal Bank of Canada. On Dec. 17, Treiber gave the stock an Underperform rating with a $7.50 price target.\nHowever, after a sharp selloff, BB stock is presenting investors with a potentially bullish technical pattern that may allow the stock to move higher, particularly if it beats expectations when it reports earnings.\nCan BB Stock Get it Right?\nI don’t currently own BB stock, but it is one of the meme stocks that I find intriguing. That’s because its underlying business plan has potential. However, it’s likely to be several years before that potential is realized. This top cloud stock remains a buy in my book following the earnings update for three reasons.</p>\n<h2>1. The core business is still going strong</h2>\n<p>Salesforce's revenue increased 23% year over year to $6.34 billion -- its first-ever quarter with over $6 billion in sales. Leading the charge with a more than 24% year-over-year increase to $1.88 billion was the largest of its four reporting segments, the \"platform and other\" unit, primarily made up of data management outfits MuleSoft and Tableau.</p>\n<p>Momentum is picking up, primarily because of the recent tie-up with Slack as well as the purchase of IT consulting firm Acumen Solutions, announced late in 2020. Slack and Acumen are expected to contribute $530 million and $200 million in revenue, respectively, during the second half of this year.</p>\n<p>Those are big numbers, but considering Salesforce overall is forecasting full-year revenue to be at least $26.2 billion (a 23% annual increase, and up from previous guidance for as much as $26 billion), it's Salesforce's existing core business that is still driving results higher right now.</p>\n<p>In all, the increase in the revenue forecast implies Salesforce's existing business will haul in some $260 million more than previously thought. Even when backing out recent takeovers, Salesforce is still growing at a high teens percentage rate, putting it on track to reach Benioff's goal of $50 billion in sales by fiscal year 2026 (which corresponds to calendar year 2025).</p>\n<h2>2. Slack is the new \"digital HQ\" for many organizations</h2>\n<p>As good as Salesforce's core business growth has been, there is still a fair amount of criticism for the Slack takeover. At some $28 billion paid out in a combination of cash and new Salesforce stock, it's by far Salesforce's largest purchase in a long string of takeovers that have augmented the CRM leader's operations over the past two decades.</p>\n<p>But Slack will be the biggest ever not just because of the price tag (management said stand-alone Slack sales grew 39% year over year in Q2, implying it brought in about $300 million in revenue). Salesforce has wasted no time making Slack the operating system for its Salesforce 360 CRM software suite.</p>\n<p>With remote work and cloud-based operations now cemented in place as part of the new business normal, having Slack at the core of the Salesforce platform is a big deal. As Benioff and his team referred to it on the earnings call, Slack -- as well as <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ZM\">Zoom</a> Video Communications </b>(NASDAQ: ZM) -- are the new \"digital HQ\" for many organizations these days.</p>\n<p>Rather than commute to the office, many workers now make a far shorter trip to their home office and immediately log in to Slack to start their day. Slack is thus helping Salesforce land new customer deals and expand on existing ones. A long list of new and expanded relationships mentioned on the earnings call include <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/IBM\">IBM</a> </b>(NYSE: IBM), <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> </b>(NASDAQ: PYPL), <b>Coinbase Global </b>(NASDAQ: COIN), and <b>Vodafone </b>(NASDAQ: VOD).</p>\n<p>Price tag aside, I expect Slack will feature prominently in the years ahead as Salesforce increasingly goes toe-to-toe with <b>Microsoft </b>(NASDAQ:MSFT) as a leading enterprise software firm.</p>\n<h2>3. A value-generation machine for stakeholders</h2>\n<p>Even when factoring in all the costs associated with Salesforce's acquisition-heavy strategy, this is still a highly profitable outfit. It raised its expected operating profit margin for full-year fiscal 2022 to a range of 14% to 15% (from the previous 12% to 13%). This top cloud stock remains a buy in my book following the earnings update for three reasons.\n1. The core business is still going strong\nSalesforce's revenue increased 23% year over year to $6.34 billion -- its first-ever quarter with over $6 billion in sales. Leading the charge with a more than 24% year-over-year increase to $1.88 billion was the largest of its four reporting segments, the \"platform and other\" unit, primarily made up of data management outfits MuleSoft and Tableau.\nMomentum is picking up, primarily because of the recent tie-up with Slack as well as the purchase of IT consulting firm Acumen Solutions, announced late in 2020. Slack and Acumen are expected to contribute $530 million and $200 million in revenue, respectively, during the second half of this year.\nThose are big numbers, but considering Salesforce overall is forecasting full-year revenue to be at least $26.2 billion (a 23% annual increase, and up from previous guidance for as much as $26 billion), it's Salesforce's existing core business that is still driving results higher right now.\nIn all, the increase in the revenue forecast implies Salesforce's existing business will haul in some $260 million more than previously thought. Even when backing out recent takeovers, Salesforce is still growing at a high teens percentage rate, putting it on track to reach Benioff's goal of $50 billion in sales by fiscal year 2026 (which corresponds to calendar year 2025).\n2. Slack is the new \"digital HQ\" for many organizations\nAs good as Salesforce's core business growth has been, there is still a fair amount of criticism for the Slack takeover. At some $28 billion paid out in a combination of cash and new Salesforce stock, it's by far Salesforce's largest purchase in a long string of takeovers that have augmented the CRM leader's operations over the past two decades.\nBut Slack will be the biggest ever not just because of the price tag (management said stand-alone Slack sales grew 39% year over year in Q2, implying it brought in about $300 million in revenue). Salesforce has wasted no time making Slack the operating system for its Salesforce 360 CRM software suite.\nWith remote work and cloud-based operations now cemented in place as part of the new business normal, having Slack at the core of the Salesforce platform is a big deal. As Benioff and his team referred to it on the earnings call, Slack -- as well as Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ: ZM) -- are the new \"digital HQ\" for many organizations these days.\nRather than commute to the office, many workers now make a far shorter trip to their home office and immediately log in to Slack to start their day. Slack is thus helping Salesforce land new customer deals and expand on existing ones. A long list of new and expanded relationships mentioned on the earnings call include IBM (NYSE: IBM), PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN), and Vodafone (NASDAQ: VOD).\nPrice tag aside, I expect Slack will feature prominently in the years ahead as Salesforce increasingly goes toe-to-toe with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) as a leading enterprise software firm.\n3. A value-generation machine for stakeholders\nEven when factoring in all the costs associated with Salesforce's acquisition-heavy strategy, this is still a highly profitable outfit. It raised its expected operating profit margin for full-year fiscal 2022 to a range of 14% to 15% (from the previous 12% to 13%).
