higher this","content":"
LONDON (Reuters) - Volumes on PayPal Inc's 'buy now, pay later' platform were five times higher this Black Friday compared with a year earlier as the payments giant starts to gain traction in the fast-growing credit method, the company's chief executive told the Reuters Next conference.
\n
PayPal launched its \"Buy in 4\" platform in August last year, making its entry into the increasingly competitive lending niche.
\n
\"We saw a 400% year-on-year rise on our volumes going through 'buy now, pay later' this past Black Friday,\" PayPal CEO Dan Schulman said. \"It’s booming right now.\" He added that more than 9 million people have used its service.
\n
Black Friday is the unofficial shopping holiday in late November on the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
\n
\"We had more than 1 million first-time users for the first time ever in the month of November,\" Schulman said. \"It's not just popular but accelerating in popularity.\"
\n
Buy now, pay later (BNPL) services have exploded in popularity in tandem with the acceleration in e-commerce volumes during the pandemic. However, they have drawn scrutiny from regulators over concerns it will lead to higher indebtedness, especially among younger consumers.
\n
In September, a survey said a third of U.S. consumers who used \"buy now, pay later\" services have fallen behind on one or more payments.
\n
Schulman said the scale of PayPal's customer base meant they could offer the service responsibly.
\n
\"We have 400 million-plus people on our platform. We know consumers and we know merchants and we know when someone can responsibly borrow,\" Schulman said.
\n
\"We have one of the highest approval rates and one of the lowest default rates in the industry\".
\n
Schulman declined to comment on PayPal's interest in Pinterest Inc after reports last month https://www.reuters.com/technology/paypal-says-is-not-pursuing-acquisition-pinterest-2021-10-25 that it had considered buying the social media platform for $45 billion, in what would have been one of the largest tech deals in history.
\n
However, he said with $20 billion of cash-like equivalents on the company's balance sheet, it was open to big and small deals.
\n
\"When I think about M&A or I think about the strategy of PayPal, I try to think expansively about where is the world going. Not just where the world was but where it is going,\" he said.
\n
\"We have the wherewithal to be acquisitive, no doubt we will be acquisitive and we will look at both small and larger acquisitions but we have very strict capital allocation requirements.\"
\n
He said deals of interest would be in areas that would play in to the interconnection of payments, consumer financial services and shopping tools.
\n
CRYPTO TO FINANCIAL PLUMBING
\n
Last year, PayPal became one of the first major mainstream financial companies to embrace cryptocurrencies, when it enabled customers to buy, sell and hold certain digital coins in its wallet, triggering a rally in bitcoin.
\n
However, Schulman said enabling people to buy and hold cryptocurrencies is perhaps \"the least interesting\" part of crypto to him, compared with working on the development of other forms of digital money and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
\n
\"There's a lot of fascination when bitcoin hit $100k or is worth $25k or whatever but it will be what it will be,\" he said.
\n
\"But what's really interesting to me is can crypto or digital forms of currency add incremental utility to payments - things like programmable money, things like NFTs (non-fungible tokens), things like some Defi (decentralised finance) applications.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; We'd gotten used to quarter after quarter of excellent news. And then, in the third-quarter earnings report this week, Moderna cut its 2021 vaccine revenue forecast. Moderna said it now predicts $15 billion to $18 billion in coronavirus vaccine revenue this year. That means revenue may be as much as $5 billion lower than expected.
\n
As a result, the shares sank 32% in two trading sessions. All of this sounds pretty grim. But, in fact, the situation isn't as bad as it looks. The $5 billion in revenue actually isn't lost. Let's take a closer look at why the market reaction was overdone -- and why the future still looks bright for this biotech company.
\n
The earlier forecast
\n
First, a little background. In Moderna's previous earnings report, the company forecast $20 billion in coronavirus vaccine sales for 2021. This is according to advance purchase agreements with various governments -- and the company's ability to deliver those particular orders this year.
\n
Fast forward to this week's earnings report. As mentioned above, Moderna predicted a lower number. But that isn't because Moderna lost orders or sales. The biotech still will bring in the full $20 billion. But part of it will come in a bit later. There are two reasons for this.
\n
First, Moderna is deferring the delivery of some vaccine doses to higher-income countries to early 2022. It's doing this so that it can prioritize doses to lower- and middle-income countries. And these countries pay lower prices. By delivering doses to the African Union and the COVAX initiative for equitable vaccine distribution instead of countries that pay more, Moderna will generate lower revenue in the coming weeks.
\n
Second, Moderna is shipping more doses internationally than it did earlier in the year. International shipping adds more time to the whole process of getting doses from factories to people's arms. Moderna expects to speed up the process once delivery to certain countries becomes routine. In the meantime, shipping abroad is slowing things down. And that means some deliveries meant for the fourth quarter instead will arrive in early 2022. As a result, Moderna will record sales from those orders in 2022 instead of 2021.
\n
What does this mean for investors?
\n
Right now, it's more important than ever to look at Moderna through a long-term lens. From quarter to quarter, vaccine deliveries -- and revenue -- may ebb and flow. And as we see here, this sort of movement has nothing to do with overall demand for the vaccine. In many cases, logistics can determine whether a delivery arrives in one quarter or the next.
\n
Instead, we should look at the level of advance purchase orders for the coming year -- and how Moderna plans to evolve its coronavirus vaccine program in a post-pandemic world. Right now, Moderna has signed $17 billion in advance purchase agreements. These involve upfront payments so they are pretty secure. Moderna also has options for about $3 billion. That puts next year at about the same level as this year.
\n
Beyond that point, it's too early to predict exactly how much coronavirus vaccine or booster revenue will represent for Moderna. But it could remain significant. Experts say the coronavirus is here to stay. That means countries will need to stock up on vaccines or boosters for at least part of their populations. And Moderna is moving forward with exciting projects for a post-pandemic world. I'm thinking of its strain-specific booster candidates and a combined flu/coronavirus/allergies candidate.
\n
So, Moderna's change in this year's revenue guidance doesn't change my long-term outlook for the company. We'd gotten used to quarter after quarter of excellent news. And then, in the third-quarter earnings report this week, Moderna cut its 2021 vaccine revenue forecast. Moderna said it now predicts $15 billion to $18 billion in coronavirus vaccine revenue this year. That means revenue may be as much as $5 billion lower than expected.\nAs a result, the shares sank 32% in two trading sessions. All of this sounds pretty grim. But, in fact, the situation isn't as bad as it looks. The $5 billion in revenue actually isn't lost. Let's take a closer look at why the market reaction was overdone -- and why the future still looks bright for this biotech company.\nThe earlier forecast\nFirst, a little background. In Moderna's previous earnings report, the company forecast $20 billion in coronavirus vaccine sales for 2021. This is according to advance purchase agreements with various governments -- and the company's ability to deliver those particular orders this year.\nFast forward to this week's earnings report. As mentioned above, Moderna predicted a lower number. But that isn't because Moderna lost orders or sales. The biotech still will bring in the full $20 billion. But part of it will come in a bit later. There are two reasons for this.\nFirst, Moderna is deferring the delivery of some vaccine doses to higher-income countries to early 2022. It's doing this so that it can prioritize doses to lower- and middle-income countries. And these countries pay lower prices. By delivering doses to the African Union and the COVAX initiative for equitable vaccine distribution instead of countries that pay more, Moderna will generate lower revenue in the coming weeks.\nSecond, Moderna is shipping more doses internationally than it did earlier in the year. As a result, Moderna will record sales from those orders in 2022 instead of 2021.\nWhat does this mean for investors?\nRight now, it's more important than ever to look at Moderna through a long-term lens. From quarter to quarter, vaccine deliveries -- and revenue -- may ebb and flow. And as we see here, this sort of movement has nothing to do with overall demand for the vaccine. In many cases, logistics can determine whether a delivery arrives in one quarter or the next.\nInstead, we should look at the level of advance purchase orders for the coming year -- and how Moderna plans to evolve its coronavirus vaccine program in a post-pandemic world. Right now, Moderna has signed $17 billion in advance purchase agreements. These involve upfront payments so they are pretty secure. Moderna also has options for about $3 billion. That puts next year at about the same level as this year.\nBeyond that point, it's too early to predict exactly how much coronavirus vaccine or booster revenue will represent for Moderna. But it could remain significant. Experts say the coronavirus is here to stay. That means countries will need to stock up on vaccines or boosters for at least part of their populations. And Moderna is moving forward with exciting projects for a post-pandemic world. I'm thinking of its strain-specific booster candidates and a combined flu/coronavirus/allergies candidate.\nSo, Moderna's change in this year's revenue guidance doesn't change my long-term outlook for the company. Instead, I see it as a reminder not to panic -- and to focus on the big picture over time.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":352,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":856110597,"gmtCreate":1635159641951,"gmtModify":1635159642454,"author":{"id":"4090835245062940","authorId":"4090835245062940","name":"Xiaobaibaix","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19263ccc92eb63259fac52b84116dbc7","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Know that everyone gonna profit!!!","listText":"Know that everyone gonna profit!!!","text":"Know that everyone gonna profit!!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/856110597","repostId":"2178808449","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2178808449","pubTimestamp":1635115262,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2178808449?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-25 06:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Big Tech companies report earnings: What to know this week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2178808449","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"Investors' focus this week will be on earnings results, with some of the most heavily weighted compa","content":"
Investors' focus this week will be on earnings results, with some of the most heavily weighted companies in the S&P 500 poised to deliver their quarterly reports.
\n

\n
Over the past couple of weeks, most of the companies that posted earnings results topped Wall Street's estimates, despite widespread concerns over the impact of supply chain challenges to corporate profits. These better-than-feared results helped power both the S&P 500 and Dow to fresh record highs in the past week.
\n
As of Friday, about 23% of S&P 500 companies had reported actual results for the third quarter. Of these, 84% topped Wall Street's expectations for earnings per share (EPS), according to data from FactSet. And the estimated earnings growth rate for the S&P 500 stood at 32.7%, based on actual results and expectations for companies still yet to report. If maintained through the end of third-quarter earnings season, that would mark the third-highest earnings growth rate posted for the index since 2010.
\n
Given the string of stronger-than-expected results posted so far, this week's docket of reports has a heightened bar to clear.
\n
And that's especially set to be the case for the Big Tech companies, including Facebook (FB), Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOGL). Most of these far outperformed the market last year, but have seen their stock gains cool so far in 2021 amid concerns over rising interest rates, chip shortages, and slowing growth after a surge in online media usage and demand for software during the height of the pandemic.
\n
Despite the near-term challenges, however, some strategists have struck an upbeat tone on the technology sector as a whole.
\n
\"While the chip shortage will be a major conversation piece for tech investors during tech earnings season and clearly be an overhang, we believe the Street will instead look through any near-term disruption and focus on the underlying healthy demand drivers into 2022 which look robust,\" said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives in a note last week.
\n
A number of the closely watched technology companies that reported last week posted results that disappointed investors or highlighted the lingering impact of these myriad concerns. Snap (SNAP), the parent company of the disappearing photo-sharing platform app Snapchat, offered a current-quarter forecast that fell short of expectations, with supply chain challenges for its advertiser customer base and privacy-related changes to Apple's iOS operating system weighing on sales and profits.
\n
The weak guidance sent Snap's stock down by 27% on Friday for its biggest single-day drop on record, and dragged down shares of other ad-driven companies including Facebook, Pinterest (PINS), Twitter (TWTR) and Alphabet.
\n
In July, Facebook had already flagged an early impact from Apple's iOS privacy update, which allows users to better control how apps track them. Facebook Chief Financial Officer Dave Wehner said during the company's second-quarter earnings call that the company expected \"increased ad targeting headwinds in 2021 from regulatory and platform changes, notably the recent iOS updates\" and expected these \"to have a more significant impact in the third quarter compared to the second.\"
\n
Still, the social media juggernaut's top-line growth is expected to climb by another 37% in the third quarter of last year to reach a fresh quarterly record of $29.45 billion. Still, this pace of growth would mark a step down from the second quarter's 56% year-on-year growth rate.
\n
An illustration picture taken in London on December 18, 2020 shows the logos of Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft displayed on a mobile phone and a laptop screen. - (Photo by JUSTIN TALLIS / AFP) (Photo by JUSTIN TALLIS/AFP via Getty Images)JUSTIN TALLIS via Getty Images
\n
For peer ad-driven company Alphabet, a pickup in travel among consumers may help fuel the company's core Google Search business even in the face of other ad-industry headwinds. Both Snap and American Express (AXP) last week highlighted a pickup they were witnessing in consumer travel behavior and out-of-the-home spending in their third-quarter earnings releases and calls.
\n
\"Lost in the noise, SNAP also highlighted opportunity driven by travel budgets returning, which is a positive read through to GOOGL’s general search business,\" Daniel Salmon, BMO Capital Markets internet and media analyst, wrote in a note on Friday.
\n
Ongoing semiconductor shortages and supply-related issues also dealt a blow to other tech companies. Tesla (TSLA) said in its earnings report last week that, \"A variety of challenges, including semiconductor shortages, congestion at ports and rolling blackouts, have been impacting our ability to keep factories running at full speed.\"
\n
And reports earlier this month from Bloomberg suggested Apple was likely to cut its iPhone 13 production targets by as many as 10 million units amid chip shortages. The company, however, is still expected to post still-solid revenue growth of 21%, bringing sales to $84.67 billion as consumer demand for the latest smartphones remained resilient, especially in the U.S. and China.
\n
Rounding out this tech-heavy earnings week will be Amazon (AMZN), which posts quarterly results alongside Apple on Thursday after market close. The company has lagged the market since last reporting earnings in late July, falling 7.3% since July 29 versus a 2.9% gain in the S&P 500.
\n
Investors have been especially cautious on Amazon given widespread supply chain constraints, rising labor costs and fears that e-commerce sales and Amazon Web Services growth could slow after a pandemic-induced surge. Amazon shares had climbed by 76% in 2020, and the stock was the second-best FAANG performer after Apple that year.
\n
\"Concerns across top line, bottom line, and broader macro have collectively driven cautious sentiment into year-end,\" wrote JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth in a note last Thursday. \"However, we believe there is still significant secular shift toward e-commerce ahead and Amazon has a very strong track record around investing into future growth opportunities.\"
\n
\"Macro issues related to supply chain, port congestion, and inventory are well-documented and have intensified into the holiday season, driving concerns that delays could impact timing of AMZN receiving 1P/3P [first-party and third-party seller] inventory and certain items could remain out-of-stock,\" he added. \"Overall, we believe AMZN embedded some degree of disruption into the 3Q guide and we believe AMZN scaled inventory in anticipation of greater 2H demand.\"
\n
In late July, Amazon said it expected third-quarter net sales to total $106 billion to $112 billion, missing consensus expectations at the time. Wall Street analysts now expected to see Amazon post third-quarter sales of $111.8 billion, representing year-over-year growth of 16%, or its slowest since early 2015.
\n
Economic calendar
\n
\n

Monday: Chicago Fed National Activity Index, September (0.2 expected, 0.29 in August); Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, October (6.2 expected, 4.6 in September)

\n

Tuesday: FHFA House Price Index, month-over-month, August (1.5% expected, 1.4% in July); S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller 20-City Composite, month-over-month, August (1.44% expected, 1.55% in July); S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller 20-City Composite, year-over-year, August (20.00% expected, 19.95% in July); New Home Sales, month-over-month, September (756,000 expected, 740,000 in August); Conference Board Consumer Confidence, October (108.5 expected, 109.2 in September)

\n

Wednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended Oct. 22 (-6.3% during prior week); Advance Goods Trade Balance, September (-$88.3 billion expected, -$87.6 billion in August); Wholesale Inventories, month-over-month, September preliminary (1.0% expected, 1.2% in August); Durable Goods Orders, September preliminary (-1.0% expected, 1.8% in August); Durable Goods Orders, excluding transportation, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.3% in August); Non-defense Capital Goods Orders, excluding aircraft, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.6% in August); Non-defense Capital Goods Orders, excluding aircraft, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.8% in August)

\n

Thursday: Initial jobless claims, week ended Oct. 23 (292,000 expected, 290,000 during prior week); Continuing claims, week ended Oct. 16 (2.420 million expected, 2.481 million during prior week); GDP annualized, quarter-over-quarter, Q3 first estimate annualized (2.7% expected, 6.7% in Q2); Personal consumption, Q3 first estimate (0.7% expected, 12.0% in Q2); Core personal consumption expenditures, quarter-over-quarter, Q3 first estimate (4.4% expected, 6.1% in Q2); Pending home sales, September (0.6% expected, 8.1% in August); Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, October (19 expected, 22 in September)

\n

Friday: Personal income, September (-0.2% expected, 0.2% in August); Personal spending, September (0.6% expected, 0.8% in August); Personal Consumption Expenditures Core Deflator, month-over-moth, September (0.2% expected, 0.3% in August); Personal Consumption Expenditures, Core Deflator, year-over-year, September (3.7% expected, 3.6% in August): MNI Chicago PMI, October (64.0 expected, 64.7 in September); University of Michigan Sentiment, October final (71.4 expected, 71.4 in September)

\n
\n
Earnings calendar
\n
\n

Monday: Kimberly-Clark Corp. These better-than-feared results helped power both the S&P 500 and Dow to fresh record highs in the past week.\nAs of Friday, about 23% of S&P 500 companies had reported actual results for the third quarter. Of these, 84% topped Wall Street's expectations for earnings per share (EPS), according to data from FactSet. And the estimated earnings growth rate for the S&P 500 stood at 32.7%, based on actual results and expectations for companies still yet to report. If maintained through the end of third-quarter earnings season, that would mark the third-highest earnings growth rate posted for the index since 2010.\nGiven the string of stronger-than-expected results posted so far, this week's docket of reports has a heightened bar to clear.\nAnd that's especially set to be the case for the Big Tech companies, including Facebook (FB), Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOGL). Most of these far outperformed the market last year, but have seen their stock gains cool so far in 2021 amid concerns over rising interest rates, chip shortages, and slowing growth after a surge in online media usage and demand for software during the height of the pandemic.\nDespite the near-term challenges, however, some strategists have struck an upbeat tone on the technology sector as a whole.\n\"While the chip shortage will be a major conversation piece for tech investors during tech earnings season and clearly be an overhang, we believe the Street will instead look through any near-term disruption and focus on the underlying healthy demand drivers into 2022 which look robust,\" said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives in a note last week.\nA number of the closely watched technology companies that reported last week posted results that disappointed investors or highlighted the lingering impact of these myriad concerns. Snap (SNAP), the parent company of the disappearing photo-sharing platform app Snapchat, offered a current-quarter forecast that fell short of expectations, with supply chain challenges for its advertiser customer base and privacy-related changes to Apple's iOS operating system weighing on sales and profits.\nThe weak guidance sent Snap's stock down by 27% on Friday for its biggest single-day drop on record, and dragged down shares of other ad-driven companies including Facebook, Pinterest (PINS), Twitter (TWTR) and Alphabet.\nIn July, Facebook had already flagged an early impact from Apple's iOS privacy update, which allows users to better control how apps track them. Facebook Chief Financial Officer Dave Wehner said during the company's second-quarter earnings call that the company expected \"increased ad targeting headwinds in 2021 from regulatory and platform changes, notably the recent iOS updates\" and expected these \"to have a more significant impact in the third quarter compared to the second.\"\nStill, the social media juggernaut's top-line growth is expected to climb by another 37% in the third quarter of last year to reach a fresh quarterly record of $29.45 billion. Still, this pace of growth would mark a step down from the second quarter's 56% year-on-year growth rate.\nAn illustration picture taken in London on December 18, 2020 shows the logos of Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft displayed on a mobile phone and a laptop screen. - (Photo by JUSTIN TALLIS / AFP) (Photo by JUSTIN TALLIS/AFP via Getty Images)JUSTIN TALLIS via Getty Images\nFor peer ad-driven company Alphabet, a pickup in travel among consumers may help fuel the company's core Google Search business even in the face of other ad-industry headwinds. Both Snap and American Express (AXP) last week highlighted a pickup they were witnessing in consumer travel behavior and out-of-the-home spending in their third-quarter earnings releases and calls.\n\"Lost in the noise, SNAP also highlighted opportunity driven by travel budgets returning, which is a positive read through to GOOGL’s general search business,\" Daniel Salmon, BMO Capital Markets internet and media analyst, wrote in a note on Friday.\nOngoing semiconductor shortages and supply-related issues also dealt a blow to other tech companies. Tesla (TSLA) said in its earnings report last week that, \"A variety of challenges, including semiconductor shortages, congestion at ports and rolling blackouts, have been impacting our ability to keep factories running at full speed.\"\nAnd reports earlier this month from Bloomberg suggested Apple was likely to cut its iPhone 13 production targets by as many as 10 million units amid chip shortages. The company, however, is still expected to post still-solid revenue growth of 21%, bringing sales to $84.67 billion as consumer demand for the latest smartphones remained resilient, especially in the U.S. and China.\nRounding out this tech-heavy earnings week will be Amazon (AMZN), which posts quarterly results alongside Apple on Thursday after market close. The company has lagged the market since last reporting earnings in late July, falling 7.3% since July 29 versus a 2.9% gain in the S&P 500.\nInvestors have been especially cautious on Amazon given widespread supply chain constraints, rising labor costs and fears that e-commerce sales and Amazon Web Services growth could slow after a pandemic-induced surge. Amazon shares had climbed by 76% in 2020, and the stock was the second-best FAANG performer after Apple that year.\n\"Concerns across top line, bottom line, and broader macro have collectively driven cautious sentiment into year-end,\" wrote JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth in a note last Thursday. \"However, we believe there is still significant secular shift toward e-commerce ahead and Amazon has a very strong track record around investing into future growth opportunities.\"\n\"Macro issues related to supply chain, port congestion, and inventory are well-documented and have intensified into the holiday season, driving concerns that delays could impact timing of AMZN receiving 1P/3P [first-party and third-party seller] inventory and certain items could remain out-of-stock,\" he added. \"Overall, we believe AMZN embedded some degree of disruption into the 3Q guide and we believe AMZN scaled inventory in anticipation of greater 2H demand.\"\nIn late July, Amazon said it expected third-quarter net sales to total $106 billion to $112 billion, missing consensus expectations at the time. Wall Street analysts now expected to see Amazon post third-quarter sales of $111.8 billion, representing year-over-year growth of 16%, or its slowest since early 2015.\nEconomic calendar\n\nMonday: Chicago Fed National Activity Index, September (0.2 expected, 0.29 in August); Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, October (6.2 expected, 4.6 in September)\nTuesday: FHFA House Price Index, month-over-month, August (1.5% expected, 1.4% in July); S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller 20-City Composite, month-over-month, August (1.44% expected, 1.55% in July); S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller 20-City Composite, year-over-year, August (20.00% expected, 19.95% in July); New Home Sales, month-over-month, September (756,000 expected, 740,000 in August); Conference Board Consumer Confidence, October (108.5 expected, 109.2 in September)\nWednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended Oct. 22 (-6.3% during prior week); Advance Goods Trade Balance, September (-$88.3 billion expected, -$87.6 billion in August); Wholesale Inventories, month-over-month, September preliminary (1.0% expected, 1.2% in August); Durable Goods Orders, September preliminary (-1.0% expected, 1.8% in August); Durable Goods Orders, excluding transportation, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.3% in August); Non-defense Capital Goods Orders, excluding aircraft, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.6% in August); Non-defense Capital Goods Orders, excluding aircraft, September preliminary (0.4% expected, 0.8% in August)\nThursday: Initial jobless claims, week ended Oct. 23 (292,000 expected, 290,000 during prior week); Continuing claims, week ended Oct. 16 (2.420 million expected, 2.481 million during prior week); GDP annualized, quarter-over-quarter, Q3 first estimate annualized (2.7% expected, 6.7% in Q2); Personal consumption, Q3 first estimate (0.7% expected, 12.0% in Q2); Core personal consumption expenditures, quarter-over-quarter, Q3 first estimate (4.4% expected, 6.1% in Q2); Pending home sales, September (0.6% expected, 8.1% in August); Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, October (19 expected, 22 in September)\nFriday: Personal income, September (-0.2% expected, 0.2% in August); Personal spending, September (0.6% expected, 0.8% in August); Personal Consumption Expenditures Core Deflator, month-over-moth, September (0.2% expected, 0.3% in August); Personal Consumption Expenditures, Core Deflator, year-over-year, September (3.7% expected, 3.6% in August): MNI Chicago PMI, October (64.0 expected, 64.7 in September); University of Michigan Sentiment, October final (71.4 expected, 71.4 in September)\n\nEarnings calendar\n\nMonday: Kimberly-Clark Corp. (INTC) investors over the past few years.
\n
It seems like every time the sun comes out...there is another storm right around the corner.
\n
As highlighted on the earnings call last night, the next \"storm\" brewing for Intel is continued supply chain issues (component shortages in the PC business) and reduced near-term profitability from rising capital expenditure needs, which has sent the stock plummeting 11% this morning into the abyss.
\n

\n
However, buying the dips has actually been pretty lucrative in the recent past...if, of course, you were lucky enough to fade the rallies.
\n
To be fair, Intel has had its fair share of challenges this year, despite general tailwinds in the industry (i.e., chip demand far outpacing supply).
\n
Specifically, Intel has had some well-documented manufacturing blunders that have caused major delays and loss of some market share...mainly to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
\n
This has triggered concern amongst investors that the stock may be a potential \"value trap\" now.
\n
All that said, Intel is dedicated to spending $25 billion to $28 billion in 2022 and just broke ground on some new fabs.
\n
Personally, I don't think we are anywhere near peak demand for chips and I believe that Intel's fabrication capabilities are (and will continue to be) a huge advantage for the company for years to come.
\n
So how can we structure a trade to take advantage of the upside potential in the stock (after this pullback) while also protecting ourselves from more near-term downside (if any)?
\n
It's a perfect situation for a \"Triple Play\" trade!
\n
Intel Corp.
\n
Sector/Industry:Technology/Semiconductors
\n
\n Intel is the world's largest chipmaker. It designs and manufactures microprocessors for the global personal computer and data center markets. Intel pioneered the x86 architecture for microprocessors. It was the prime proponent of Moore's Law for advances in semiconductor manufacturing, though the firm has recently faced manufacturing delays. While Intel's server processor business has benefited from the shift to the cloud, the firm has also been expanding into new adjacencies as the personal computer market has stagnated. These include areas such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and automotive. Intel has been active on the merger and acquisitions front, acquiring Altera, Mobileye, and Habana Labs in order to bolster these efforts in non-PC arenas.\n
\n
Source: YCharts
\n
Valuation/Upside Potential
\n
Intel looks extremely attractive from a valuation standpoint and is currently trading at a decent discount to all of its long-term valuation metrics (hence the high Value Ranking of 10).
\n
Specifically, Intel is trading at a nice discount to its historical P/E multiple on a forward basis (10.6x 2021 earnings).Note that the company actually just increased its guidance for fiscal 2021 earnings to $5.28 per share.
\n
That said, as supply chain worries decrease over time, we definitely think there could be some room for margin expansion in the future.
\n
If you put just a 12x-14x multiple on consensus forward earnings of $5.28 per share for FYE 2021, that would equate to a $63.00- $73.00 stock price (representing 25%-45% upside from current levels).
\n
Although it probably won't get there in a straight line...
\n
\"Triple Play\" Trade Analysis
\n
A \"Triple Play\" trade involves simultaneously selling a cash-secured put and a covered call on a stock that you own.
\n
Source: Option Income Advisor
\n
Note that if you don't currently own INTC stock, you will want to buy it before you write the covered call.
\n
This trade will allow you to take advantage of the upside potential in the stock while also protecting some of the near-term downside (if any).
\n
Step 1: Sell Cash-Secured Puts (50% of position size)
\n
The first step of the Triple Play trade is to sell a cash-secured put on the stock for 50% of your target position size. For example, if you wanted to own 400 shares of INTC... you would sell 2 cash-secured put contract, which represents 200 shares of stock.
\n
The three main data points we look at when analyzing a cash-secured put trade are:
\n
\n
Premium Yield % (or Average Monthly Yield %): Measure of expected return on capital assuming that the option expires worthless (out-of-the-money).Assumes that the option is fully cash secured.
\n
Margin-of-Safety %: Measure of downside protection or the percentage that the underlying stock could decline and would still allow you to break even on the option trade.
\n
Delta: A good proxy for the probability that the put option will finish in-the-money.
\n
\n
Note that there's always a negative correlation between Premium Yield and Margin of Safety: The higher the Premium Yield for a given strike month, the lower the Margin of Safety.
\n
Investors always should be honest with themselves about their risk tolerance. Selling CSPs can be adapted to suit your needs.
\n
As discussed in the video, we like the $45.00-$50.00 range for INTC in the near term. So we like the following cash-secured put:
\n
INTC Nov 19th $47.50.00 Put (28 days until expiration)
\n
\n
Option Premium: ~$0.58 premium
\n
Average Monthly Yield %: 1.3% (15.6% annualized)
\n
Margin-of-Safety %: 4.2%
\n
Delta: 28
\n
\n
Step 2: Buy the Stock (50% of position size)
\n
Note: At the time of publication, INTC was trading at $49.60. If you already own the stock, you can skip to Step 3.
\n
The second step of the Triple Play is to buy the stock (50% of your target position size). (INTC) investors over the past few years.\nIt seems like every time the sun comes out...there is another storm right around the corner.\nAs highlighted on the earnings call last night, the next \"storm\" brewing for Intel is continued supply chain issues (component shortages in the PC business) and reduced near-term profitability from rising capital expenditure needs, which has sent the stock plummeting 11% this morning into the abyss.\n\nHowever, buying the dips has actually been pretty lucrative in the recent past...if, of course, you were lucky enough to fade the rallies.\nTo be fair, Intel has had its fair share of challenges this year, despite general tailwinds in the industry (i.e., chip demand far outpacing supply).\nSpecifically, Intel has had some well-documented manufacturing blunders that have caused major delays and loss of some market share...mainly to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).\nThis has triggered concern amongst investors that the stock may be a potential \"value trap\" now.\nAll that said, Intel is dedicated to spending $25 billion to $28 billion in 2022 and just broke ground on some new fabs.\nPersonally, I don't think we are anywhere near peak demand for chips and I believe that Intel's fabrication capabilities are (and will continue to be) a huge advantage for the company for years to come.\nSo how can we structure a trade to take advantage of the upside potential in the stock (after this pullback) while also protecting ourselves from more near-term downside (if any)?\nIt's a perfect situation for a \"Triple Play\" trade!\nIntel Corp.\nSector/Industry:Technology/Semiconductors\n\n Intel is the world's largest chipmaker. Intel has been active on the merger and acquisitions front, acquiring Altera, Mobileye, and Habana Labs in order to bolster these efforts in non-PC arenas.\n\nSource: YCharts\nValuation/Upside Potential\nIntel looks extremely attractive from a valuation standpoint and is currently trading at a decent discount to all of its long-term valuation metrics (hence the high Value Ranking of 10).\nSpecifically, Intel is trading at a nice discount to its historical P/E multiple on a forward basis (10.6x 2021 earnings).Note that the company actually just increased its guidance for fiscal 2021 earnings to $5.28 per share.\nThat said, as supply chain worries decrease over time, we definitely think there could be some room for margin expansion in the future.\nIf you put just a 12x-14x multiple on consensus forward earnings of $5.28 per share for FYE 2021, that would equate to a $63.00- $73.00 stock price (representing 25%-45% upside from current levels).\nAlthough it probably won't get there in a straight line...\n\"Triple Play\" Trade Analysis\nA \"Triple Play\" trade involves simultaneously selling a cash-secured put and a covered call on a stock that you own.\nSource: Option Income Advisor\nNote that if you don't currently own INTC stock, you will want to buy it before you write the covered call.\nThis trade will allow you to take advantage of the upside potential in the stock while also protecting some of the near-term downside (if any).\nStep 1: Sell Cash-Secured Puts (50% of position size)\nThe first step of the Triple Play trade is to sell a cash-secured put on the stock for 50% of your target position size. For example, if you wanted to own 400 shares of INTC... you would sell 2 cash-secured put contract, which represents 200 shares of stock.\nThe three main data points we look at when analyzing a cash-secured put trade are:\n\nPremium Yield % (or Average Monthly Yield %): Measure of expected return on capital assuming that the option expires worthless (out-of-the-money).Assumes that the option is fully cash secured.\nMargin-of-Safety %: Measure of downside protection or the percentage that the underlying stock could decline and would still allow you to break even on the option trade.\nDelta: A good proxy for the probability that the put option will finish in-the-money.\n\nNote that there's always a negative correlation between Premium Yield and Margin of Safety: The higher the Premium Yield for a given strike month, the lower the Margin of Safety.\nInvestors always should be honest with themselves about their risk tolerance. Selling CSPs can be adapted to suit your needs.\nAs discussed in the video, we like the $45.00-$50.00 range for INTC in the near term. So we like the following cash-secured put:\nINTC Nov 19th $47.50.00 Put (28 days until expiration)\n\nOption Premium: ~$0.58 premium\nAverage Monthly Yield %: 1.3% (15.6% annualized)\nMargin-of-Safety %: 4.2%\nDelta: 28\n\nStep 2: Buy the Stock (50% of position size)\nNote: At the time of publication, INTC was trading at $49.60. If you already own the stock, you can skip to Step 3.\nThe second step of the Triple Play is to buy the stock (50% of your target position size). For example, if you wanted to own 400 shares of INTC... you would buy 200 shares of stock.\nStep 3: Sell Covered Calls On Your Stock Position (*optional*)\nA covered call strategy will help generate some short-term income, maintain some upside exposure, and mitigate some downside risk.\nWith a covered call, you are agreeing to sell your stock at a higher price (your call option strike price) but you get to keep your call option premium either way.\nAs discussed in the video, since we like the upside potential in the near term with INTC, you will want to give yourself some room for the stock to run.So we would actually recommend waiting for the stock to trade a little higher before selling covered calls.\nThat said, if you wanted to execute the covered calls today, I would certainly consider taking less premium income to preserve more potential upside profit. For example, the $53.00 call would give you an extra 0.5% of income per month (6.0% annualized)...which would essentially triple your dividend yield on the stock!\nINTC Nov 19th $53.00 Call (28 days until expiration)\n\nOption Premium: ~$0.25 premium\nAverage Monthly Yield %: 0.5% (6.0% annualized)\nUpside Profit %: 7.4%\nDelta: 15\n\nConclusion\nThis Triple Play trade will allow you to take advantage of the upside potential in INTC stock while also giving you some downside cushion if shares trade lower in the near term. As the covered calls and cash-secured puts expire, you can rinse and repeat the Triple Play trade!","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":4,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":868618506,"gmtCreate":1632638234705,"gmtModify":1632647413390,"author":{"id":"4090835245062940","authorId":"4090835245062940","name":"Xiaobaibaix","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19263ccc92eb63259fac52b84116dbc7","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Paypal weee","listText":"Paypal weee","text":"Paypal weee","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/868618506","repostId":"2170614636","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2170614636","pubTimestamp":1632636541,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2170614636?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-26 14:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Unstoppable Investments Everyone Needs in Their Portfolio","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2170614636","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"It's much easier to remain a market leader than it is to become one, making these three names must-have holdings for nearly any investor.","content":"
When most investors are looking for new stocks to buy, they consider things like their risk tolerance, preferred holding periods, and the ultimate timeframe for reaching their goals. Since every investor is different, so too are the mixes of their holdings. Different stocks check off different boxes.
\n
There's a small handful of solid names, however, that could be at home in any investor's portfolio. Here's a rundown of three of the best of these all-purpose prospects.
\n
Alphabet
\n
It's not a company that needs much of an introduction. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) is of course parent to the world's most-used search engine, Google.
\n
What may not be fully appreciated by investors, however, is just how dominant Alphabet is within the search engine arena. GlobalStats' statcounter indicates Google is the go-to means of searching the web for almost 86% of the world's computers.
\n
It's not just on the search engine front where Alphabet dominates its respective market, either. It's the heavy hitter of mobile operating systems too, with Android installed on nearly 73% of the world's actively used smartphones and tablets.
\n
As was the case with search engines, that's a lead Alphabet has enjoyed for a while as well, positioning it perfectly to not only serve as a search engine on mobile devices (95% of them, again according to GlobalStats), but as the easiest platform for downloading apps and other revenue-bearing digital content. All told, Google alone accounts for almost 60% of Alphabet's total revenue.
\n
This is no small matter. While most industries change over time in a way that opens the door to new and better competition, the search business as we know it is likely here to stay. Ditto for mobility. Now that we've grown accustomed to remaining constantly connected, we're not apt to regress. Since we're already in the habit of \"Googling\" whatever we want to know and already familiar with the Android operating system, Google's dominance is well shielded for the indefinite future.
\n
Walmart
\n
Walmart (NYSE:WMT) won't be winning any growth awards anytime soon. In fact, at the same time e-commerce giant Amazon is working to keep its growth in check, brick-and-mortar retailer Target is nipping at its heels. Many other companies would eventually crumble under such pressure.
\n

\n
\n
What's largely underappreciated here, however, is the sheer strength of the grip Walmart has on the piece of the retail market that's just not going to move online.
\n
As of the most recent count, there are 10,524 Walmart stores peppered across the planet, with 4,740 conventional stores in the United States alone; that doesn't count the country's nearly 600 Sam's Club stores either. The company estimates that 90% of America's residents live within 10 miles of a Walmart, making it the most accessible physical retailer for roughly 300 million people.
\n
Walmart isn't resting on the laurels of its geographical reach, though. It's also evolving into a lifestyle company that consumers feel more personally connected to. Locally brewed beers, health clinics, subscription-based delivery service for online orders, curated third-party sellers at Walmart.com, high(er) fashion private label apparel, and technology-installation services are now part of the retailer's repertoire. None are game-changers in and of themselves, but all of them together make Walmart a very easy name to keep shopping with.
\n
These initiatives won't always translate into firm sales and profit growth, mind you. But they will more often than not, extending its streak of annual revenue growth that goes all the way back to the 1980s.
\n
PayPal
\n
Lastly, add PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) to your list of unstoppable stocks any investor could use to drive reliable long-term growth in their portfolio.
\n
Sure, other payment processing players have tiptoed onto PayPal's turf. Square has brilliantly penetrated the small merchant market that most payment middlemen were ignoring. Netherlands-based Adyen is carving out a respectable business outside of North America, although it's now making waves within the U.S. as well.
\n
At the end of the day, though, the first big name in online payments is still the best way for investors to plug into the growing disinterest in cash. PayPal still controls anywhere from 50% to more than 90% of the digital payment market, depending on how you count share and who's doing the counting.
\n
One thing's for sure. though. That is, regardless of how you tally it, PayPal isn't being dethroned. Indeed, in 2020 -- a year in which rivals had a prime opportunity to attract new users -- PayPal's total volume payment grew 31%, and the company added nearly another 73 million actively used accounts to bring the total to 377 million. Guidance suggests this full year's growth will be almost as impressive.
\n
Much like Walmart, however, PayPal is no longer limiting itself to its core payments business. The company is now reportedly eyeing ancillary businesses like stock trading after recently adding online savings accounts and cryptocurrency checkout to its app. The sky's the limit with these and other ventures that leverage the established brand name and its nearly 400 million active users.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Unstoppable Investments Everyone Needs in Their Portfolio
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Unstoppable Investments Everyone Needs in Their Portfolio\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-26 14:09 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When most investors are looking for new stocks to buy, they consider things like their risk tolerance, preferred holding periods, and the ultimate timeframe for reaching their goals. Netherlands-based Adyen is carving out a respectable business outside of North America, although it's now making waves within the U.S. as well.\nAt the end of the day, though, the first big name in online payments is still the best way for investors to plug into the growing disinterest in cash. PayPal still controls anywhere from 50% to more than 90% of the digital payment market, depending on how you count share and who's doing the counting.\nOne thing's for sure. Guidance suggests this full year's growth will be almost as impressive.\nMuch like Walmart, however, PayPal is no longer limiting itself to its core payments business. The company is now reportedly eyeing ancillary businesses like stock trading after recently adding online savings accounts and cryptocurrency checkout to its app. The sky's the limit with these and other ventures that leverage the established brand name and its nearly 400 million active users.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":73,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":861142440,"gmtCreate":1632475168480,"gmtModify":1632720310978,"author":{"id":"4090835245062940","authorId":"4090835245062940","name":"Xiaobaibaix","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19263ccc92eb63259fac52b84116dbc7","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"GOOOO CRYPTO HEHE","listText":"GOOOO CRYPTO HEHE","text":"GOOOO CRYPTO HEHE","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/861142440","repostId":"1186375441","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1186375441","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1632473057,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1186375441?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-24 16:44","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto miner Argo Blockchain jumped over 7% in premarket trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1186375441","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(Sept 24) Crypto miner Argo Blockchain jumped over 7% in premarket trading.\n\nYesterday, American dep","content":"
(Sept 24) Crypto miner Argo Blockchain jumped over 7% in premarket trading.
\n

\n
Yesterday, American depositary shares of crypto miner Argo Blockchain(NASDAQ:ARBK)open trading on the Nasdaq Global Market at $15.01, barely above their initial public offering price of $15.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Not just where the world was but where it is going,\" he said.\n\"We have the wherewithal to be acquisitive, no doubt we will be acquisitive and we will look at both small and larger acquisitions but we have very strict capital allocation requirements.\"\nHe said deals of interest would be in areas that would play in to the interconnection of payments, consumer financial services and shopping tools.\nCRYPTO TO FINANCIAL PLUMBING\nLast year, PayPal became one of the first major mainstream financial companies to embrace cryptocurrencies, when it enabled customers to buy, sell and hold certain digital coins in its wallet, triggering a rally in bitcoin.\nHowever, Schulman said enabling people to buy and hold cryptocurrencies is perhaps \"the least interesting\" part of crypto to him, compared with working on the development of other forms of digital money and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).\n\"There's a lot of fascination when bitcoin hit $100k or is worth $25k or whatever but it will be what it will be,\" he said.\n\"But what's really interesting to me is can crypto or digital forms of currency add incremental utility to payments - things like programmable money, things like NFTs (non-fungible tokens), things like some Defi (decentralised finance) applications.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":694,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":823315004,"gmtCreate":1633582164071,"gmtModify":1633582164527,"author":{"id":"4090835245062940","authorId":"4090835245062940","name":"Xiaobaibaix","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19263ccc92eb63259fac52b84116dbc7","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$Goooo MFST hehe","listText":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$Goooo MFST hehe","text":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$Goooo MFST hehe","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f9cb7ad771e2c38446e25a7fd5a20dc8","width":"1080","height":"3392"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/823315004","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":90,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":862798714,"gmtCreate":1632910426436,"gmtModify":1632910426800,"author":{"id":"4090835245062940","authorId":"4090835245062940","name":"Xiaobaibaix","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19263ccc92eb63259fac52b84116dbc7","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Heating up !!","listText":"Heating up !!","text":"Heating up !!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/862798714","repostId":"1198528044","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198528044","pubTimestamp":1632882697,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1198528044?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-29 10:31","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Technically Speaking: Is The Market \"Melting-Up?\"","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198528044","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Summary\n\nGiven the Fed’s ongoing balance sheet operations, investors fully believe they have protect","content":"
Summary
\n
\n
Given the Fed’s ongoing balance sheet operations, investors fully believe they have protection from a decline.
\n
As is always the case, the investing public believes future earnings will justify higher prices during a melt-up. Such is essential because earnings are not rising at a fast enough clip to support higher prices. As is always the case, the investing public believes future earnings will justify higher prices during a melt-up. It just never works out that way.
\n

\n
We can compare those two previous periods with the current advance from the March 2020 lows. Again, we see a very similar sharp advance in price combined with a surge in valuations. However, the justification for paying high prices is the Federal Reserve’s ongoing balance sheet expansion.
\n

\n
The following chart looks that the price advance and valuation measures a little differently.
