Bezos is the largest shareholder, with effective control of the e-commerce and cloud computing giant.
\n
Another high-profile split candidate is Google parent Alphabet, whose shares as measured by its nonvoting stock (GOOG) are up 58% this year to $2,792.89. Alphabet reports second-quarter results Tuesday.
\n
Bezos presumably wasn’t interested in splitting the shares or else it would have happened. The company reports its second-quarter results on Thursday.
\n
Mark Mahaney, an Evercore ISI analyst, doesn’t think an Amazon or Alphabet split will happen soon, tellingBarron’sin an email that he hasn’t heard either company discuss the idea.
\n
Mahaney is more focused on a potential dividend at Alphabet, which doesn’t pay one, and stock buybacks at Amazon, which is the only one of the big five tech companies that hasn’t repurchase shares in recent years. Bezos is the largest shareholder, with effective control of the e-commerce and cloud computing giant.\nAnother high-profile split candidate is Google parent Alphabet, whose shares as measured by its nonvoting stock (GOOG) are up 58% this year to $2,792.89. The company reports its second-quarter results on Thursday.\nMark Mahaney, an Evercore ISI analyst, doesn’t think an Amazon or Alphabet split will happen soon, tellingBarron’sin an email that he hasn’t heard either company discuss the idea.\nMahaney is more focused on a potential dividend at Alphabet, which doesn’t pay one, and stock buybacks at Amazon, which is the only one of the big five tech companies that hasn’t repurchase shares in recent years. AMC has not announced a release date for its Q2 results.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":239,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":159220148,"gmtCreate":1624971017384,"gmtModify":1633946399887,"author":{"id":"3583134156550772","authorId":"3583134156550772","name":"Lucky997","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d479af33dd70e9e201e6800dd057b2a7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583134156550772","idStr":"3583134156550772"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment & like","listText":"Comment & like","text":"Comment & like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/159220148","repostId":"1128482198","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1128482198","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1624968506,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1128482198?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-29 20:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Toplines Before US Market Open on Tuesday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1128482198","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. futures drift after tech drives U.S. gauges to records\n\n\nTreasuries steady; oil dips as gold he","content":"
\n
U.S. futures drift after tech drives U.S. gauges to records
\n
\n
\n
Treasuries steady; oil dips as gold heads for monthly drop
\n
\n
Stocks were mixed and U.S. futures fluctuated on Tuesday as concerns over a highly infectious Covid-19 strain spurred caution among investors. ","content":"
Stock in e-commerce behemoth Amazon.com is dropping after beating Wall Street earnings projections. Stop us if you have heard that before. A beat and drop is the typical outcome for Amazon shares.
\n
Yes, investors always have reasons to get nervous, and this time the reason isn’t the earnings themselves. Amazon.com (ticker: AMZN) reported $15.12 in unadjusted per-share earnings. Wall Street was looking for $12.28 a share. Instead, the company forecasts a slowdown in online sales for the coming quarter.
\n
The stock is down 6.7% in premarket trading. Amazon is probably the reason S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures are down 0.6% and 0.3%, respectively. Amazon sucked the wind out of the market.
\n
If shares finish down Friday—and it looks very likely they will—it will be the ninth earnings beat during the past 12 quarters, and the sixth time it has dropped following a beat. In other words, there’s a 67% chance that Amazon stock drops no matter how good the earnings are.
\n
Investors focused on the third quarter, however, might be missing the point. What investors should remember is at the start of this series—the third quarter of 2018—Amazon stock was trading at about $1,782 a share. It closed Thursday at almost $3,600 a share. That works out to an annual average return of roughly 29%. Not bad.
\n
Quarterly reports are funny things. More often than not they confirm what investors already know. Take Caterpillar(CAT). Cat and Amazon have little in common except they both reported between the close of trading Thursday and the opening of trading on Friday. Cat’s quarter shows strong demand as the economy recovers and pressure from rising commodity costs. Not a shocker. Stop us if you have heard that before. A beat and drop is the typical outcome for Amazon shares.\nYes, investors always have reasons to get nervous, and this time the reason isn’t the earnings themselves. Amazon.com (ticker: AMZN) reported $15.12 in unadjusted per-share earnings. Wall Street was looking for $12.28 a share. Instead, the company forecasts a slowdown in online sales for the coming quarter.\nThe stock is down 6.7% in premarket trading. Amazon is probably the reason S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures are down 0.6% and 0.3%, respectively. Amazon sucked the wind out of the market.\nIf shares finish down Friday—and it looks very likely they will—it will be the ninth earnings beat during the past 12 quarters, and the sixth time it has dropped following a beat. In other words, there’s a 67% chance that Amazon stock drops no matter how good the earnings are.\nInvestors focused on the third quarter, however, might be missing the point. What investors should remember is at the start of this series—the third quarter of 2018—Amazon stock was trading at about $1,782 a share. It closed Thursday at almost $3,600 a share. That works out to an annual average return of roughly 29%. Not bad.\nQuarterly reports are funny things. And yes its stock is down 2.4%.\nQuarterly reports rarely change an investment thesis. Yes, sometimes true bombshells get dropped. For Amazon, it isn’t likely that online sales slowing coming out of the pandemic qualifies as the bombshell Friday trading seems to indicate though.\nThat’s our hunch.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":169,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":872365782,"gmtCreate":1637429543067,"gmtModify":1637429543237,"author":{"id":"3583134156550772","authorId":"3583134156550772","name":"Lucky997","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d479af33dd70e9e201e6800dd057b2a7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583134156550772","idStr":"3583134156550772"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$Hold or sell? But when examined over the long run, there's arguably not a better wealth creator on the planet.
\n
Since 1980, investing in an S&P 500 tracking index would have yielded an average annual total return, including dividends, of more than 11%. In other words, you're doubling your money in less than seven years, with dividend reinvestment.
\n
The best thing about putting money to work in the market is that you don't need to start with a fortune to end up making one. It's simply a matter of buying game-changing companies and hanging onto those investments for a very long time.
\n
If you're ready to chart your path to financial independence, the following four unstoppable stocks can help you reach your goal.
\n
Square
\n
Ready or not, we're witnessing a war on cash and a payments revolution take shape before our eyes. When the dust settles, fintech stock Square (NYSE:SQ) should come out as one of the leading providers of cashless/digital payments.
\n
Square is likely best-known for its seller ecosystem. This is the segment that provides point-of-sale devices, analytics, loans, and other tools to help businesses grow. In the seven years leading up to the pandemic, the gross payment volume (GPV) on its network catapulted from $6.5 billion to $106.2 billion. While the seller ecosystem has long targeted smaller merchants, GPV trends show that larger merchants (those with annualized GPV above $125,000) now account for a majority of all GPV on the network. Bigger merchants should translate to higher gross profit over time.
\n
But make no mistake about it, the star of the show is digital peer-to-peer payments platform Cash App. Between the end of 2017 and the end of 2020, Cash App's monthly active user count grew more than 400% to 36 million. This hypergrowth payments platform is allowing Square to generate revenue from merchant fees, transfers, and investments (including Bitcoin exchange). With Square bringing in $41 in gross profit per Cash App user and spending less than $5 to attract each new user, the profit potential here is insanely high.
\n
Vertex Pharmaceuticals
\n
Biotech stocks are a dime a dozen. But a profitable, cash-rich biotech company with a successful track record of developing drugs for hard-to-treat diseases ... that's a description encapsulating Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:VRTX).
\n
Where Vertex has really made its mark is in treating cystic fibrosis (CF) -- a genetic disease characterized by thick mucus production that can obstruct the lungs and pancreas. Despite there being no cure for CF, Vertex has developed multiple generations of gene-based CF therapies, each providing improved lung function for patients. The latest, combination therapy Trikafta, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration five months ahead of schedule. At its peak, this drug that targets about 90% of CF patients could see $6 billion (or more) in annual sales.
\n
Developing a long line of successful treatments in a hard-to-treat space has allowed Vertex to build quite the war chest. It ended March with $6.9 billion in cash and cash equivalents, which is more than enough to fund its research into nearly one dozen internally developed compounds. What's more, this cash will likely be used to acquire other therapies and diversify Vertex's revenue channels.
\n
CrowdStrike Holdings
\n
Like Square, cybersecurity stock CrowdStrike Holdings (NASDAQ:CRWD) finds itself at the center of a rapidly growing and transformative industry. With the pandemic moving businesses online and into the cloud faster than ever before, the need to protect enterprise and consumer data from orchestrated attacks is even more pronounced. That's where CrowdStrike steps up.
\n
CrowdStrike's cloud-native Falcon platform is a standout. Reliant on artificial intelligence and built in the cloud, Falcon is designed to be faster and more efficient than on-premises security solutions at identifying and responding to threats. In a given week, Falcon oversees 6 trillion events, which is allowing the service to grow exponentially smarter over time.
\n
The proof of Falcon's success can be plainly seen in CrowdStrike's operating performance. It's retaining 98% of its clients and had 64% of its customers purchase at least four cloud module subscriptions in the fiscal first quarter (that's up from 9% four years earlier). Cybersecurity-based subscription margins are already juicy -- and they get even more delectable when existing clients are spending more each year. Despite still being in the early stages of its growth, CrowdStrike has already hit its long-term subscription gross margin target.
\n
Berkshire Hathaway
\n
A proven way to make money for more than five decades has been to ride the coattails of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) CEO Warren Buffett. Since taking the helm at Berkshire in the mid-1960s, Buffett has led his company to an annual average return of 20%. In aggregate, we're talking about a gain of more than 2,800,000%, as well as the creation of over $500 billion in value for shareholders.
\n
Let's state the obvious: When you buy a stake in Berkshire Hathaway, you're allowing Warren Buffett to manage a slice of your portfolio. Buffett isn't infallible, but he does a lot of things as an investor that yield positive results. He buys stakes in companies with clear-cut competitive advantages, and he sticks to industries and sectors that he knows inside and out. Most importantly, the Oracle of Omaha buys with the intent of holding for a very long time.
\n
Warren Buffett is also a big believer in the numbers game. In other words, while recessions are a normal part of the economic cycle, they tend to be short-lived. Comparatively, periods of economic expansion usually last for years. Buffett has anchored Berkshire Hathaway's more than $300 billion investment portfolio with cyclical companies from the tech, financials, and consumer staples spaces that will undoubtedly benefit from these long periods of economic expansion.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Chart a Path to Financial Independence With These Unstoppable Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nChart a Path to Financial Independence With These Unstoppable Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-06 17:40 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The stock market may be volatile at times, and it certainly doesn't go up every year. In aggregate, we're talking about a gain of more than 2,800,000%, as well as the creation of over $500 billion in value for shareholders.\nLet's state the obvious: When you buy a stake in Berkshire Hathaway, you're allowing Warren Buffett to manage a slice of your portfolio. Buffett isn't infallible, but he does a lot of things as an investor that yield positive results. He buys stakes in companies with clear-cut competitive advantages, and he sticks to industries and sectors that he knows inside and out. Most importantly, the Oracle of Omaha buys with the intent of holding for a very long time.\nWarren Buffett is also a big believer in the numbers game. In other words, while recessions are a normal part of the economic cycle, they tend to be short-lived. Comparatively, periods of economic expansion usually last for years. Buffett has anchored Berkshire Hathaway's more than $300 billion investment portfolio with cyclical companies from the tech, financials, and consumer staples spaces that will undoubtedly benefit from these long periods of economic expansion.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":89,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":801393040,"gmtCreate":1627481842580,"gmtModify":1631887548857,"author":{"id":"3583134156550772","authorId":"3583134156550772","name":"Lucky997","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d479af33dd70e9e201e6800dd057b2a7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3583134156550772","idStr":"3583134156550772"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like six months into 2021, andenergy stocksare already on pace for their best year in more than three decades, leading some to believe the run may be due for a pullback.\nThe group pulled back on Thursday and Friday, but is still up more than 40% for the year. That’s almost double the 23% return for the real estate sector, which is the second-best sector. The S&P 500 is up nearly 12% this year.\nEnergy’s big start to the year means that even if the sector goes nowhere for the rest of 2021, it will still be the best year since 1990 by nearly 10%, according to Bay Crest Partners chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky.\nThe surge in energy stocks comes on the back of a recovery in oil prices, and as investors return to areas of the market that were left out of 2020′s rebound from the pandemic lows. The sector was also starting from a low base. In 2020, the group fell 37.3% for its worst performance since inception in 1989.\nKrinsky is among those saying the upside move is overdone, and his call is to sell crude oil and energy stocks broadly. From a technical standpoint, he noted that the $420 to $450 level acted as support — a floor — for the group during the last decade. But then during the Covid sell-off, the sector plunged below that key level — breaking below $200 — as the pandemic ground economies around the world to a halt.\n\nThe S&P Energy Sector has since recovered and traded as high as $420 on Thursday, inching closer to their prior support level, which now acts as resistance, or where an uptrend could be expected to reverse.\n“Oftentimes when you break a very important support like that, once you come back and test it as resistance, it’s difficult to exceed that — at least on the first try,” Krinsky noted.\nGauging performance from Jan. 1 might seem arbitrary, but he added that the sector’s outperformance is notable from virtually any date. Over the last eight months, the group has returned over 90%, which Krinsky says is more than two times the prior largest such gain over the last three decades.\n“Even on a rolling basis this is somewhat unprecedented,” he said. His bearish call on the sector also stems from other commodities breaking down, including lumber and copper. The latter is now breaking its uptrend, and Krinsky noted that copper was a leading indicator for the 2020 low, hitting a bottom one month ahead of West Texas Intermediate Crude futures.\nTOP-PERFORMING S&P 500 ENERGY STOCKS THIS YEAR\n\n\n\nTICKER\nCOMPANY\nPRICE\n%CHANGE\nYIELD\nPREVIOUS CLOSE\n\n\n\n\nMRO\nMarathon Oil Corp\n12.83\n-0.4655\n12.83\n12.89\n\n\nFANG\nDiamondback Energy Inc\n86.23\n-0.7596\n86.23\n86.89\n\n\nDVN\nDevon Energy Corp\n27.22\n-1.3411\n27.22\n27.59\n\n\nEOG\nEOG Resources Inc\n80.795\n-0.7798\n80.795\n81.43\n\n\n\nWithin the sector,Marathon Oilhas gained nearly 93% this year, making it the top-performing energy stock in the S&P 500.\nDiamondback Energyrose about 80% year to date, andDevon Energyclimbed more than 70%.OccidentalandEOG Resourcesare up more than 60%.\nAmid the outperformance the group remains unloved by Wall Street as factors – including environmental, social and corporate governance investing – prompt investors to shy away from the sector. Bank of America recently noted that the entire sector makes up just 2% of the average long-only portfolio, or less than half the allocation toward Facebook, which sits at 4.2%.\nEnergy still comprises a tiny portion of the S&P 500, but as the sector’s weighting grows, fund managers who shun the space could risk returns.\nMRB Partners on Thursday reiterated its overweight rating on the group, saying the recovery in demand for petroleum products, coupled with ongoing supply constraints, should push oil prices higher, leading to further returns for energy stocks.\n“Strengthening cash flows, leaner cost structures, and better capital discipline position the industry to moderately increase capital returns to shareholders,” strategists led by Salvatore Ruscitti wrote in a note to clients. “Relative performance will benefit from the reflationary backdrop and our expectations for a softer U.S. dollar.”\nWhen it comes to specific stocks, Gilman Hill Asset Management CEO Jenny Harrington owns names includingChevron,OneokandKinder Morgan. She noted on Thursday’s“Halftime Report”that it’s important to look at the whole picture. While oil is at its highest level in nearly two and a half years, it’s trading at about half the level it was just a few years ago. On the flip side, it’s well above where it traded in June of 2020 as the pandemic took hold.\n“They’re all trading at a fraction of the market multiple,” Harrington said of the energy stocks she owns. “They all have hefty dividend yields,” she added, arguing that strong earnings growth means “there’s a lot of room to go here.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":137,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
