Fool","summary":"Do the video conferencing company's strengths outweigh its weaknesses?","content":"
Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) has been an impressive growth stock since its initial public offering two years ago. The video conferencing company went public at $36 per share, and it's trading at nearly $360 at the time of this writing -- which gives it a market cap of over $100 billion.
\n
Zoom certainly became a household name during the pandemic, but is the stock still worth buying after its massive post-IPO run? Let's discuss three compelling reasons to buy Zoom -- and one reason to sell it.
\n
1. It's still growing like a weed
\n
Zoom's simple interface, popular brand, and free tier helped it stand out in a crowded market of complicated enterprise-oriented platforms. Zoom was already growing quickly prior to the pandemic -- its revenue rose 88% to $622.7 million in fiscal 2020, which ended in January 2020, and its adjusted net income jumped 513% to $101.3 million.
\n
\n
In fiscal 2021, its revenue skyrocketed 326% to $2.65 billion as it gained tens of millions of new users throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Its adjusted net income soared 883% to $995.7 million.
\n
Zoom's growth should decelerate as the pandemic ends and more people return to work and school, but it still expects its revenue to grow 50% to 51% this year as its adjusted earnings rise 37% to 38%.
\n
Those rosy estimates indicate Zoon's growing list of competitors -- which include Cisco Systems' Webex, Alphabet's Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Facebook's Messenger Rooms -- aren't gaining much ground in the video conferencing market.
\n
2. The pandemic isn't over yet
\n
Zoom was often called a \"pandemic stock\" last year because it benefited from remote work and stay-at-home trends. As a result, Zoom's stock pulled back from its all-time high of $588.84 per share, which it hit last October, as vaccination rates rose and more businesses reopened.
\n
Unfortunately, the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the U.S. and other countries -- which can be attributed to the highly contagious delta variant and stagnant vaccination rates -- suggests the pandemic is far from over. If the pandemic worsens and sparks fresh lockdown measures, Zoom's full-year estimates -- which it provided in early June -- could be far too low.
\n
3. Its ecosystem is expanding
\n
The skeptics might claim Zoom is a one-trick pony without a competitive moat, but it's repeatedly expanded its ecosystem over the past few years. It's added new collaborative features to Zoom Rooms, integrated its services with other enterprise communication platforms, upgraded its security features, launched all-in-one Zoom Phone appliances, and invested in real-time AI-powered translation tools with its recent acquisition of the German start-up Kites.
\n
\n
Zoom also expanded its App Store, which extends its platform's functionality with third-party apps, and launched Zoom Events for large-scale live events. Its planned $14.7 billion purchase of the cloud contact center provider Five9 could complement all those efforts and accelerate its long-term evolution into a diversified cloud communications giant.
\n
The reason to sell: Its valuation
\n
Zoom's growth rates are impressive, but the stock is undeniably expensive at 77 times forward earnings and about 27 times this year's sales.
\n
But when Zoom closed at $62 per share on its first trading day, the company was valued at nearly $16 billion -- or 26 times the revenue it actually generated in fiscal 2020. Therefore, Zoom isn't much pricier than it was at the time of its IPO, but the stock is now trading nearly 500% higher -- so investors who worried too much about its valuations over the past two years missed out on some massive gains.
\n
That said, Zoom's stock has always been priced for perfection. The pandemic helped it repeatedly beat Wall Street's expectations, and its own rosy guidance suggests it's still firing on all cylinders. But if Zoom fails to clear Wall Street's high bar just once, its stock could plunge. The bears will start growling about a post-pandemic slowdown and competing platforms again, and the bulls will rush toward the exits.
\n
Do Zoom's strengths outweigh its weaknesses?
\n
I was deeply skeptical of Zoom at first, but I recently bought some shares because I believe its strengths outweigh its weaknesses. The stock is certainly expensive, but its simple and streamlined approach to video conferencing has clearly disrupted a dusty and stagnant market.
\n
Zoom isn't letting its core platform languish, as Cisco did with Webex and Microsoft did with Skype, and it has clear plans for its future. If it achieves its planned transformation into a cloud communications platform, it might be worth a lot more in just a few years.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons to Buy Zoom Video Communications, and 1 Reason to Sell
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons to Buy Zoom Video Communications, and 1 Reason to Sell\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-29 21:51 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) has been an impressive growth stock since its initial public offering two years ago. JMIA stock shot up by more than 1500% from its pandemic lows earlier this year. However, in the past three months, it lost roughly 60% of its value.
\n
The reason is simple: its financials do not justify its lofty market capitalization of over $2.5 billion. Though that is true for now, the market is ignoring the business’ positioning and its incredible long-term potential.
\n
Jumia is a company in transition. It has shifted its business model towards third-party marketplace sales, which has heavily impacted its near-term growth. (AFP via Getty Images)
\n
Despite the doom and gloom in the financial media over the past week, 2021 has been a good year for the stock market. And a long-term upward ride for energy stocks may be just beginning.
\n
Jesse Felder was cited in MarketWatch's Call of the Day for his opinion that energy is the neglected sector of the stock market even though it has been outperforming other sectors since last fall.
\n
He pointed out that energy stocks make up a smaller percentage of the S&P 500 than they did 20 years ago. Looking at numbers provided by FactSet, it appears Felder expressed this phenomenon mildly. As of the close on May 19, the S&P 500 energy sector made up 2.85% of the index's market capitalization, down from 6.95% 20 years earlier.
\n
Energy stocks for the rebound
\n
Despite the inroads made by Tesla Inc. $(TSLA)$ that will surely be expanded upon by traditional auto manufacturers gearing up to sell their own fleets of electric vehicles, the U.S. remains very much addicted to gasoline, diesel and other fossil fuels. So it is no surprise that with the economy bouncing back from the coronavirus doldrums of 2020, energy has been the best-performing sector this year.
\n
The collapse in crude oil prices from the summer of 2014 through February 2016 was enough to push some energy companies out of the S&P 500 -- their market values had declined too much to remain in the benchmark large-cap index. And the worst point of the COVID-19 crisis for financial markets even led to forward-month oil futures contracts falling below zero in April 2020. (The price of West Texas crude oil per continuous forward contract was up 31% for 2021 to $63.35 on May 19, according to FactSet.)
\n
The S&P 500 now includes only 23 energy stocks. Our look at the sector will be broadened to the 63 energy companies in the S&P Composite 1500 Index , which is made up of the S&P 500, the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index .
\n
Here's how the 11 sectors of the S&P 1500 have performed this year through May 19 and also since the end of 2019 and since the end of 2015:
\n
(FactSet)
\n
Energy leads this year, but it is one of only two sectors that are down since the end of 2019 and the only down since the end of 2015. (The above figures reflect only price changes -- they exclude dividends.)
\n
There are different ways to look at stock valuations. These include forward price-to-earnings ratios, which divide the current stock price by consensus estimates for earnings over the following 12 months. But this may not work very well for energy stocks, since the industry disruption has been so great that many of the companies are expected to continue losing money over the next year.
\n
One can look at PEG ratios, which reflect forward price-to-earnings ratios and expected earnings growth rates, as we did here and other large technology-oriented companies. But this approach won't work well if the base for earnings growth is very low -- compound annual growth rate estimates become distorted.
\n
Instead, two lists follow -- expected earnings growth for the largest companies and the companies favored the most by Wall Street analysts.
\n
Expected earnings growth
\n
The first shows the 20 largest energy companies in the S&P 1500 by market capitalization, with their consensus earnings estimates among analysts polled by FactSet for calendar 2021 and the following three years, if available. You will need to scroll the table to see all the data.
\n
(FactSet)
\n
For Exxon Mobil Corp. $(XOM)$ and Chevron Corp. $(CVX)$ -- the dominant U.S. integrated oil companies -- the analysts expect earnings to rise considerably from 2021 through 2024. However, you can see that they expect only a slight improvement in EPS for Exxon in 2023 and a slight decline for Chevron that year.
\n
Wall Street's favorite energy stocks
\n
Going back to the list of 63 energy stocks in the S&P 1500 Composite Index, here are the 20 covered by at least five analysts, with the highest percentage of \"buy\" or equivalent ratings among the analysts. (AFP via Getty Images)\nDespite the doom and gloom in the financial media over the past week, 2021 has been a good year for the stock market. And a long-term upward ride for energy stocks may be just beginning.\nJesse Felder was cited in MarketWatch's Call of the Day for his opinion that energy is the neglected sector of the stock market even though it has been outperforming other sectors since last fall. \nHe pointed out that energy stocks make up a smaller percentage of the S&P 500 than they did 20 years ago. Looking at numbers provided by FactSet, it appears Felder expressed this phenomenon mildly. As of the close on May 19, the S&P 500 energy sector made up 2.85% of the index's market capitalization, down from 6.95% 20 years earlier.\nEnergy stocks for the rebound\nDespite the inroads made by Tesla Inc. $(TSLA)$ that will surely be expanded upon by traditional auto manufacturers gearing up to sell their own fleets of electric vehicles, the U.S. remains very much addicted to gasoline, diesel and other fossil fuels. So it is no surprise that with the economy bouncing back from the coronavirus doldrums of 2020, energy has been the best-performing sector this year.\nThe collapse in crude oil prices from the summer of 2014 through February 2016 was enough to push some energy companies out of the S&P 500 -- their market values had declined too much to remain in the benchmark large-cap index. And the worst point of the COVID-19 crisis for financial markets even led to forward-month oil futures contracts falling below zero in April 2020. (The price of West Texas crude oil per continuous forward contract was up 31% for 2021 to $63.35 on May 19, according to FactSet.)\nThe S&P 500 now includes only 23 energy stocks. Our look at the sector will be broadened to the 63 energy companies in the S&P Composite 1500 Index , which is made up of the S&P 500, the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index .\nHere's how the 11 sectors of the S&P 1500 have performed this year through May 19 and also since the end of 2019 and since the end of 2015:\n(FactSet)\nEnergy leads this year, but it is one of only two sectors that are down since the end of 2019 and the only down since the end of 2015. (The above figures reflect only price changes -- they exclude dividends.)\nThere are different ways to look at stock valuations. These include forward price-to-earnings ratios, which divide the current stock price by consensus estimates for earnings over the following 12 months. But this may not work very well for energy stocks, since the industry disruption has been so great that many of the companies are expected to continue losing money over the next year.\nOne can look at PEG ratios, which reflect forward price-to-earnings ratios and expected earnings growth rates, as we did here and other large technology-oriented companies. But this approach won't work well if the base for earnings growth is very low -- compound annual growth rate estimates become distorted.\nInstead, two lists follow -- expected earnings growth for the largest companies and the companies favored the most by Wall Street analysts.\nExpected earnings growth\nThe first shows the 20 largest energy companies in the S&P 1500 by market capitalization, with their consensus earnings estimates among analysts polled by FactSet for calendar 2021 and the following three years, if available. You will need to scroll the table to see all the data.\n(FactSet)\nFor Exxon Mobil Corp. $(XOM)$ and Chevron Corp. $(CVX)$ -- the dominant U.S. integrated oil companies -- the analysts expect earnings to rise considerably from 2021 through 2024. However, you can see that they expect only a slight improvement in EPS for Exxon in 2023 and a slight decline for Chevron that year.\nWall Street's favorite energy stocks\nGoing back to the list of 63 energy stocks in the S&P 1500 Composite Index, here are the 20 covered by at least five analysts, with the highest percentage of \"buy\" or equivalent ratings among the analysts. The list includes dividend yields in the right-most column. Again, scroll the table to see all the columns.\n\n\n\nCOMPANY\nMARKET CAP. (NYSE:JMIA) has a wild ride at the stock market in the past few months.
Moreover, it aims to be less reliant on one-off sales such as in electronics towards higher-frequency product categories such as clothing, food, and others.
\n
Additionally, higher-order frequency items will positively impact the penetration of its fintech offering called JumiaPay. It has also implemented several cost control measures and exited less profitable markets such as Cameroon.
\n
This being said, let’s look at Jumia in a little more depth and assess whether it’s a good investment now at this time.
\n
A Look at JMIA’s Financials
\n
It’s safe to that Jumia’s fundamentals aren’t impressive for its massive total addressable market and its meteoric valuation.
\n
Revenues in the past year declined by 12.9% though marketplace revenues grew by 19.6%. Moreover, its gross merchandise volume (GMV) was down by a considerable 19% for the full year. The trend has followed in its first-quarter results this year, where its GMV was down 13% and its sales dropped 6% on a year-over-year basis.
\n
The drop in revenues is linked to its transition in its business model, which I discussed earlier. However, an area where it is excelling is its gross margins.
\n
Gross margins rose by 22.3% last year compared to 2019, reaching positive territory after fulfillment expenses. Moreover, the trend followed in the first quarter this year, where gross profits reached €6.2 million, more than doubling year-over-year.
\n
The number of active users on its platform continues to rise at a healthy rate, experiencing a 12% growth in the past year compared to 2019.
\n
Additionally, the order volume on its platform increased by 5.1% in 2020 compared to 2019. It also increased by 3.3% in the first quarter this year; therefore, it appears that the company is slowly building towards a recovery in its top line.
\n
Market Opportunity
\n
Jumia operates in the fast-growing African market, which has the potential of becoming global growth’s new frontier.
\n
The company operates in 11 countries with 600 million people, which accounts for roughly 70% of Africa’s internet users.
\n
McKinsey estimates that the African eCommerce industry will account for approximately 10% of the continent’s retail sales by 2025, whichtotals $75 billion in revenues annually.
\n
Hence, it is clear that Jumia has penetrated a small portion of the market so far, and even if it ends up a fraction of its TAM, it could rapidly expand its market capitalization.
\n
In this regard, JMIA stock is fairly priced despite the weakness in its fundamentals. Analysts estimate suggest that it is trading at an 8% discount at this time.
\n
Bottom Line on JMIA Stock
\n
JMIA stock has been on a roller-coaster ride in the past few months.
The video conferencing company went public at $36 per share, and it's trading at nearly $360 at the time of this writing -- which gives it a market cap of over $100 billion.\nZoom certainly became a household name during the pandemic, but is the stock still worth buying after its massive post-IPO run? Let's discuss three compelling reasons to buy Zoom -- and one reason to sell it.\n1. It's still growing like a weed\nZoom's simple interface, popular brand, and free tier helped it stand out in a crowded market of complicated enterprise-oriented platforms. Zoom was already growing quickly prior to the pandemic -- its revenue rose 88% to $622.7 million in fiscal 2020, which ended in January 2020, and its adjusted net income jumped 513% to $101.3 million.\nImage source: Zoom.\nIn fiscal 2021, its revenue skyrocketed 326% to $2.65 billion as it gained tens of millions of new users throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Its adjusted net income soared 883% to $995.7 million.\nZoom's growth should decelerate as the pandemic ends and more people return to work and school, but it still expects its revenue to grow 50% to 51% this year as its adjusted earnings rise 37% to 38%.\nThose rosy estimates indicate Zoon's growing list of competitors -- which include Cisco Systems' Webex, Alphabet's Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Facebook's Messenger Rooms -- aren't gaining much ground in the video conferencing market.\n2. The pandemic isn't over yet\nZoom was often called a \"pandemic stock\" last year because it benefited from remote work and stay-at-home trends. As a result, Zoom's stock pulled back from its all-time high of $588.84 per share, which it hit last October, as vaccination rates rose and more businesses reopened.\nUnfortunately, the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the U.S. and other countries -- which can be attributed to the highly contagious delta variant and stagnant vaccination rates -- suggests the pandemic is far from over. If the pandemic worsens and sparks fresh lockdown measures, Zoom's full-year estimates -- which it provided in early June -- could be far too low.\n3. Its ecosystem is expanding\nThe skeptics might claim Zoom is a one-trick pony without a competitive moat, but it's repeatedly expanded its ecosystem over the past few years. It's added new collaborative features to Zoom Rooms, integrated its services with other enterprise communication platforms, upgraded its security features, launched all-in-one Zoom Phone appliances, and invested in real-time AI-powered translation tools with its recent acquisition of the German start-up Kites.\nImage source: Zoom.\nZoom also expanded its App Store, which extends its platform's functionality with third-party apps, and launched Zoom Events for large-scale live events. Its planned $14.7 billion purchase of the cloud contact center provider Five9 could complement all those efforts and accelerate its long-term evolution into a diversified cloud communications giant.\nThe reason to sell: Its valuation\nZoom's growth rates are impressive, but the stock is undeniably expensive at 77 times forward earnings and about 27 times this year's sales.\nBut when Zoom closed at $62 per share on its first trading day, the company was valued at nearly $16 billion -- or 26 times the revenue it actually generated in fiscal 2020. Therefore, Zoom isn't much pricier than it was at the time of its IPO, but the stock is now trading nearly 500% higher -- so investors who worried too much about its valuations over the past two years missed out on some massive gains.\nThat said, Zoom's stock has always been priced for perfection. The pandemic helped it repeatedly beat Wall Street's expectations, and its own rosy guidance suggests it's still firing on all cylinders. But if Zoom fails to clear Wall Street's high bar just once, its stock could plunge. The bears will start growling about a post-pandemic slowdown and competing platforms again, and the bulls will rush toward the exits.\nDo Zoom's strengths outweigh its weaknesses?\nI was deeply skeptical of Zoom at first, but I recently bought some shares because I believe its strengths outweigh its weaknesses. The stock is certainly expensive, but its simple and streamlined approach to video conferencing has clearly disrupted a dusty and stagnant market.\nZoom isn't letting its core platform languish, as Cisco did with Webex and Microsoft did with Skype, and it has clear plans for its future. If it achieves its planned transformation into a cloud communications platform, it might be worth a lot more in just a few years.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":55,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":895012376,"gmtCreate":1628693860995,"gmtModify":1633745050941,"author":{"id":"3582205965536131","authorId":"3582205965536131","name":"25787ff2","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582205965536131","idStr":"3582205965536131"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"plsssssssd","listText":"plsssssssd","text":"plsssssssd","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c6067f0cf22c7fe12737dfa1b0b66e86","width":"1125","height":"3748"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/895012376","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":149,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":898097937,"gmtCreate":1628442090529,"gmtModify":1633747128251,"author":{"id":"3582205965536131","authorId":"3582205965536131","name":"25787ff2","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582205965536131","idStr":"3582205965536131"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"cmonnnnnn","listText":"cmonnnnnn","text":"cmonnnnnn","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6c36a8a3f112c53944fff34b3cc06e19","width":"1125","height":"3763"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/898097937","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891930727,"gmtCreate":1628314910469,"gmtModify":1633751702353,"author":{"id":"3582205965536131","authorId":"3582205965536131","name":"25787ff2","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582205965536131","idStr":"3582205965536131"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gogogogogog","listText":"gogogogogog","text":"gogogogogog","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4e2ec2caae6d323ebadcfe5b4334f4dd","width":"1125","height":"3943"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/891930727","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":120,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893225768,"gmtCreate":1628266064754,"gmtModify":1633752086121,"author":{"id":"3582205965536131","authorId":"3582205965536131","name":"25787ff2","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582205965536131","idStr":"3582205965536131"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gogogoogogo","listText":"gogogoogogo","text":"gogogoogogo","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b980e4f09caf20c5bf0de357699ea12a","width":"1125","height":"3748"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/893225768","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":237,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":890408946,"gmtCreate":1628126507585,"gmtModify":1633753349616,"author":{"id":"3582205965536131","authorId":"3582205965536131","name":"25787ff2","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582205965536131","idStr":"3582205965536131"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"etsy
