Its shares are scheduled to begin trading Wednesday in a direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SQSP.
\n
The company offers various tools for website creation, including domains, e-commerce functions and marketing capabilities. Squarespace aims to work with small businesses that have limited web expertise as well as “large brands” that need greater flexibility to customize based on their needs.
\n
Squarespace sees itself playing into a number of trends, including a growing need for businesses to maintain direct relationships with their customers and an increased emphasis on do-it-yourself solutions that are “rapidly displacing expensive agencies and making equivalent design quality out-of-the-box, accessible and easy-to-use for all,” the company said in its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
The company raised $300 million in a March funding round that gave the company an enterprise valuation of $10 billion, and is not raising any new funding as it lists. Here is what else you need to know about the company.
\n
Growing Revenue, Shrinking Profits
\n
Squarespace posted $621 million in revenue during 2020, up from $485 million a year earlier. Revenue was up 28% in the latest fiscal year, ahead of the 24% growth rate seen in the prior period.
\n
The company classifies 94% of its revenue as subscription-based. Squarespace added about 700,000 new unique subscriptions in 2020 and the company disclosed that more than two thirds of total subscriptions are annual.
\n
About 70% of Squarespace’s revenue last year came from the U.S., while the rest was international.
\n
Squarespace was profitable last year, recording about $30.6 million in net income, though profits were down from $58.2 million in 2019. The company’s “fundamentals highlight a rare combo of profitability and growth at scale,” wrote MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni.
\n
Despite a string of profitability on an annual basis, Squarespace generated a net loss of $10.1 million in the first quarter of 2021 compared with a loss of $1.1 million a year earlier. The company posted profits in each of the last three quarters of 2020.
\n
Competition Aplenty
\n
The company competes with a variety of different players across the e-commerce industry, according to its filing. Squarespace counts web-creation platforms like Wix.com (ticker: WIX) and Square’s (SQ) Weebly among its competition, along with e-commerce powerhouse Shopify (ticker: SHOP), which lets businesses set up online shops.
\n
Squarespace also calls out competitors like GoDaddy (GDDY) that offer domain-name tools, as well as those providing email-marketing and scheduling functions, while arguing that its own “comprehensive, all-in-one platform, multichannel commerce capabilities” are an asset.
\n
Jefferies analyst Brent Thill notes that Wix is larger than Squarespace, with revenue of $989 million last year versus $621 million for Squarespace. Its shares are scheduled to begin trading Wednesday in a direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SQSP.\nThe company offers various tools for website creation, including domains, e-commerce functions and marketing capabilities. Squarespace aims to work with small businesses that have limited web expertise as well as “large brands” that need greater flexibility to customize based on their needs.\nSquarespace sees itself playing into a number of trends, including a growing need for businesses to maintain direct relationships with their customers and an increased emphasis on do-it-yourself solutions that are “rapidly displacing expensive agencies and making equivalent design quality out-of-the-box, accessible and easy-to-use for all,” the company said in its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.\nThe company raised $300 million in a March funding round that gave the company an enterprise valuation of $10 billion, and is not raising any new funding as it lists. Here is what else you need to know about the company.\nGrowing Revenue, Shrinking Profits\nSquarespace posted $621 million in revenue during 2020, up from $485 million a year earlier. Revenue was up 28% in the latest fiscal year, ahead of the 24% growth rate seen in the prior period.\nThe company classifies 94% of its revenue as subscription-based. Squarespace added about 700,000 new unique subscriptions in 2020 and the company disclosed that more than two thirds of total subscriptions are annual.\nAbout 70% of Squarespace’s revenue last year came from the U.S., while the rest was international.\nSquarespace was profitable last year, recording about $30.6 million in net income, though profits were down from $58.2 million in 2019. The company’s “fundamentals highlight a rare combo of profitability and growth at scale,” wrote MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni.\nDespite a string of profitability on an annual basis, Squarespace generated a net loss of $10.1 million in the first quarter of 2021 compared with a loss of $1.1 million a year earlier. The company posted profits in each of the last three quarters of 2020.\nCompetition Aplenty\nThe company competes with a variety of different players across the e-commerce industry, according to its filing. Squarespace counts web-creation platforms like Wix.com (ticker: WIX) and Square’s (SQ) Weebly among its competition, along with e-commerce powerhouse Shopify (ticker: SHOP), which lets businesses set up online shops.\nSquarespace also calls out competitors like GoDaddy (GDDY) that offer domain-name tools, as well as those providing email-marketing and scheduling functions, while arguing that its own “comprehensive, all-in-one platform, multichannel commerce capabilities” are an asset.\nJefferies analyst Brent Thill notes that Wix is larger than Squarespace, with revenue of $989 million last year versus $621 million for Squarespace. In addition, Squarespace’s revenue last year was similar to what Wix posted in 2018, but Wix was posting faster growth at that scale, and without the benefit of the pandemic-driven acceleration in e-commerce more broadly, he wrote.\nOn the Menu\nSquareSpace recently closed its $415 million acquisition of Tock, a company focused on the restaurant and hospitality industries. Tock’s services allow businesses to manage reservations, takeout, event ticketing and more.\nThis part of the business may position SquareSpace against more tech giants, suggested MKM’s Kulkarni.\n“SquareSpace’s offering with Tock faces competition from delivery services such as Uber Eats (UBER),DoorDash (DASH) and Grubhub (GRUB), along with other restaurant [customer-relationship management] services such as TouchBistro and Toast,” he wrote.\nAt the same time, the acquisition is an example of one way Squarespace has “smartly diversified into selling not just physical goods online but also adding calendar/scheduling capabilities (restaurant or gym reservations), content sales, and subscriptions,” he continued.\nMarketing Bucks\nSquarespace’s marketing and sales costs are growing far faster than its revenue. The company incurred $3.1 million in such expenses last year, up from $1.7 million in 2019, making for a 45% increase, whereas revenue was up 28% in the same span.\nThe company’s podcast advertisements may be familiar to frequent listeners, though Squarespace notes in its prospectus that it advertises its services broadly, using “online keyword search, sponsorships and celebrity endorsements, television, podcasts, print and online advertising, email and social media marketing.”\nAmong its risk factors, Squarespace points to the possibility that Alphabet’s (GOOGL) Google could change its algorithm or raise the costs of its search-engine-marketing tools.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":168,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":103438944,"gmtCreate":1619798766088,"gmtModify":1634209823137,"author":{"id":"3578671423672074","authorId":"3578671423672074","name":"WaiKeat6789","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b06933547917cf61d68a480d7c087a86","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578671423672074","authorIdStr":"3578671423672074"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool[Cool] economy.\n\nVolatility is on the","content":"
\n These hot stocks to buy are well positioned to benefit from a healing economy.\n
\n
Volatility is on the rise, putting the pressure on many high growth stocks. As we all get ready to welcome summer days that more closely resemble our pre-pandemic lives, the markets are rotating away from the growth stocks it favored during lockdowns and quarantines, especially tech shares.
\n
For instance, the tech-heavyNASDAQ 100index is down more than 4% since the start of May. As a result, many retail investors are wondering which sectors and stocks might be do well in the remaining days of the quarter.
\n
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic remains the most crucial market factor. Last year, that meant buying businesses that benefited from trends resulting from the pandemic and the lockdown (such as digitalization, health care, renewable energy or work-from-home). However, many of this year’s leading stocks are those most likely to benefit from a recovering economy and a ‘return to normalcy.’
\n
With that information, here are seven hot stocks to buy:
\n
\n
Align Technology(NASDAQ:ALGN)
\n
Ford Motor(NYSE:F)
\n
Freeport-McMoRan(NYSE:FCX)
\n
Hilton Worldwide(NYSE:HLT)
\n
Stryker(NYSE:SYK)
\n
Take-Two Interactive(NASDAQ:TTWO)
\n
Verizon Communications(NYSE:VZ)
\n
\n
Over the past 12 months, investors were able to find quality names at good value. Now, valuation levels are quite stretched. Yet, there are still plenty of robust investment opportunities out there, especially for long-term investors.
\n
Hot stocks to buy: Align Technology(ALGN)Source: rafapress / Shutterstock.com
\n
52-week range:$195.56– $647.20
\n
Dental device groupAlign Technology is primarily known for its Invisalign system, an alternative to traditional braces to correct malocclusions, or misalignment of the teeth. You might know of this product as invisible dental braces. The company also manufactures scanners and offers computer-aided design (CAD) services to support the customization of these liners.
\n
Align Technologyreported record-setting first quarter resultson April 28. Total revenue was $894.8 million, up 62.4% year-over-year (YoY). On a non-GAAP basis, first quarter net income was $198.4 million, or $2.49 per diluted share. This represented a 242% increase from $57.9 million, or 73 cents per diluted share, recorded in the prior year quarter.Cash and equivalents stood at $1.1 billion.
\n
CEO Joe Hogan said:
\n
\n “It’s remarkable to think about the pace of growth and adoption that we are experiencing worldwide, especially when considering it took 10 years to achieve our one millionth Invisalign patient milestone. Now we are adding one million new Invisalign patients in less than six months.”\n
\n
The pandemic has meant many individuals had to postpone non-essential dental procedures. As our economy opens up further, more people are likely to start elective dental procedures, such as tooth straightening treatments. Meanwhile, the number of orthodontists and general practitioner dentists using theInvisalign system stateside is on the rise. Therefore, the company is likely to keep growing for many quarters to come. Its market capitalization (cap) stands at $43 billion.
\n
Year-to-date (YTD), the shares are up 3% and hit a record high in late April. ALGN stock’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios are 65.36 and 16.88.
\n
Short-term profit-taking could put pressure on the shares. A potential decline toward $520 would improve the margin of safety.
\n
Ford Motor(F)Source: Vitaliy Karimov / Shutterstock.com
\n
52-week range: $4.52 – $13.62
\n
Legacy automaker Ford Motorreported first quarter resultsin late April. Revenue increased 6% to $36.2 billion. GAAP net income was $3.3 billion, compared to net loss of $2 billion in the prior year quarter.Adjusted earnings per share came at 89 cents.
\n
CEO Jim Farley regards the Mustang Mach-E GT as Ford’s first serious push into theelectric vehicle(EV) space. Going forward, CFO John Lawler highlighted that semiconductor shortage, exacerbated by a recent fire at a supplier plant in Japan, would likely get worse before bottoming out in Q2. The auto industry, as well as many other sectors, are under pressure due to the chip shortage worldwide.
\n
YTD, Ford shares are up over 32%. As we all get ready to welcome summer days that more closely resemble our pre-pandemic lives, the markets are rotating away from the growth stocks it favored during lockdowns and quarantines, especially tech shares.\nFor instance, the tech-heavyNASDAQ 100index is down more than 4% since the start of May. As a result, many retail investors are wondering which sectors and stocks might be do well in the remaining days of the quarter.\nThe ongoing Covid-19 pandemic remains the most crucial market factor. Last year, that meant buying businesses that benefited from trends resulting from the pandemic and the lockdown (such as digitalization, health care, renewable energy or work-from-home). However, many of this year’s leading stocks are those most likely to benefit from a recovering economy and a ‘return to normalcy.’\nWith that information, here are seven hot stocks to buy:\n\nAlign Technology(NASDAQ:ALGN)\nFord Motor(NYSE:F)\nFreeport-McMoRan(NYSE:FCX)\nHilton Worldwide(NYSE:HLT)\nStryker(NYSE:SYK)\nTake-Two Interactive(NASDAQ:TTWO)\nVerizon Communications(NYSE:VZ)\n\nOver the past 12 months, investors were able to find quality names at good value. Now, valuation levels are quite stretched. Yet, there are still plenty of robust investment opportunities out there, especially for long-term investors.\nHot stocks to buy: Align Technology(ALGN)Source: rafapress / Shutterstock.com\n52-week range:$195.56– $647.20\nDental device groupAlign Technology is primarily known for its Invisalign system, an alternative to traditional braces to correct malocclusions, or misalignment of the teeth. You might know of this product as invisible dental braces. The company also manufactures scanners and offers computer-aided design (CAD) services to support the customization of these liners.\nAlign Technologyreported record-setting first quarter resultson April 28. Total revenue was $894.8 million, up 62.4% year-over-year (YoY). On a non-GAAP basis, first quarter net income was $198.4 million, or $2.49 per diluted share. This represented a 242% increase from $57.9 million, or 73 cents per diluted share, recorded in the prior year quarter.Cash and equivalents stood at $1.1 billion.\nCEO Joe Hogan said:\n\n “It’s remarkable to think about the pace of growth and adoption that we are experiencing worldwide, especially when considering it took 10 years to achieve our one millionth Invisalign patient milestone. Now we are adding one million new Invisalign patients in less than six months.”\n\nThe pandemic has meant many individuals had to postpone non-essential dental procedures. Its market capitalization (cap) stands at $43 billion.\nYear-to-date (YTD), the shares are up 3% and hit a record high in late April. ALGN stock’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios are 65.36 and 16.88.\nShort-term profit-taking could put pressure on the shares. Revenue increased 6% to $36.2 billion. However, Juniper still ranks third in the global router market and fifth in the switch market, according to IDC.
\n
Being an underdog in two commoditized markets seemingly makes Juniper an unappealing investment, but the company has been aggressively expanding its portfolio of cloud-ready hardware and services to offset its slower sales of legacy service provider products.
\n
Juniper's cloud-oriented business has grown over the past two years, and it expects that momentum to continue as more cloud providers upgrade their networks. Its total revenue stayed flat at $4.45 billion in fiscal 2020, but it grew 8% year over year in the first quarter of 2021 as cyclical demand for its networking hardware and services accelerated again.
\n
Analysts expect Juniper's revenue and earnings to rise 5% and 10%, respectively, this year. However, its stock only trades at 14 times forward earnings and pays a high forward dividend yield of 3.1%. It only spent 63% of its free cash flow on its dividend over the past 12 months, so it still has plenty of room to raise its payout as it expands its cloud portfolio and higher-margin software business.
\n
2. Alphabet
\n
Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), the parent company of Google, suffered a brief slowdown in ad sales during the pandemic last year. Yet it offset that slowdown with the growth of Google Cloud, and its advertising business was firing on all cylinders again by the end of the year.
\n

\n
\n
Alphabet's revenue and earnings rose 13% and 19%, respectively, in 2020. Tighter spending measures during the pandemic also boosted its full-year operating margin from 21% to 23%.
\n
Wall Street expects Alphabet's revenue and earnings to increase another 30% and 51%, respectively, this year, as its ad and cloud businesses continue to expand in a post-pandemic world. Yet its stock only trades at 24 times forward earnings, which seems ridiculously cheap relative to its growth.
\n
The recent rotation out of tech stocks, along with ongoing antitrust issues and Apple's recent actions against targeted ads on iOS, seems to be dragging down Alphabet's stock price. However, I believe Alphabet should easily overcome these issues and remain one of the world's most important tech companies for the foreseeable future.
\n
3. Salesforce
\n
salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM), the world's largest cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) services provider, expects to at least double its annual revenue to more than $50 billion by fiscal 2026. It expects that growth to be driven by robust demand for automated and outsourced CRM solutions, as well as the expansion of the e-commerce, marketing, and analytics markets.
\n
Salesforce's revenue and adjusted earnings rose 24% and 65%, respectively, in fiscal 2021 (which ended this January). Its business remained resilient throughout the crisis as big companies continued to tap its cloud-based services to reach customers and optimize their internal operations.
\n
Analysts expect Salesforce's revenue to rise 21% this year, but for its earnings to decline 30% as it completes its upcoming takeover of Slack (NYSE:WORK). The short-term expenses from that $27.7 billion deal are weighing down the stock, but the integration of Slack's unified communications platform should ultimately improve Salesforce's cloud services.
\n
Salesforce's stock price might not initially seem cheap at more than 50 times forward earnings, but that P/E ratio should contract after it fully integrates Slack and its profits rebound. In terms of revenue, it trades at less than eight times this year's sales, which makes it cheaper than many other cloud stocks.
\n
The bottom line
\n
Investors who can tune out the near-term noise should take a closer look at Juniper, Alphabet, and Salesforce. Juniper is an undervalued cyclical play that is starting a new growth cycle, Alphabet is an evergreen tech juggernaut, and Salesforce should benefit from the digitization of businesses for decades to come.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Cheap Tech Stocks to Buy Right Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Cheap Tech Stocks to Buy Right Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-07 22:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Many tech stocks soared last year as stay-at-home trends boosted demand for their products and services. And the tech sector's insulation from many pandemic-related headwinds amplified those gains.\nBut a lot of those gains evaporated this year as investors focused on reopening plays in a post-pandemic world. Rising bond yields exacerbated that sell-off as investors rotated from growth to value stocks.\nThat rotation might cause some investors to avoid all tech stocks, but there are still plenty of bargains in this sector. Tesla managed aGAAPnet income of $438 million in the first quarter, up from just $16 million one-year prior. It would appear, at least at first glance, that the electric-vehicle (EV) pioneer is on the right track in terms of profitability.
\n
The problem is that these profits aren't really coming from the cars that Tesla sells. The company currently generates hundreds of millions of dollars in pure profit each quarter from the sale of regulatory credits, a side effect of other automakers not making enough zero-emission vehicles to meet regulatory requirements.
\n
Regulatory credit sales totaled $518 million in the first quarter, accounting for all of Tesla's profit and then some. This has been the case in previous quarters, as well. In fact, after backing out regulatory credits from Tesla's net income, the company has been unprofitable for six-straight quarters.
\n
Tesla's bottom line got an additional boost in the first quarter from a gain onthe sale ofBitcointo the tune of $101 million, which showed up as a reduction in costs. The picture doesn't look so rosy when both regulatory credits and Bitcoin gains are excluded:
\n

\n
DATA SOURCE: TESLA. Tesla managed aGAAPnet income of $438 million in the first quarter, up from just $16 million one-year prior. It would appear, at least at first glance, that the electric-vehicle (EV) pioneer is on the right track in terms of profitability.\nThe problem is that these profits aren't really coming from the cars that Tesla sells. The company currently generates hundreds of millions of dollars in pure profit each quarter from the sale of regulatory credits, a side effect of other automakers not making enough zero-emission vehicles to meet regulatory requirements.\nRegulatory credit sales totaled $518 million in the first quarter, accounting for all of Tesla's profit and then some. This has been the case in previous quarters, as well. In fact, after backing out regulatory credits from Tesla's net income, the company has been unprofitable for six-straight quarters.\nTesla's bottom line got an additional boost in the first quarter from a gain onthe sale ofBitcointo the tune of $101 million, which showed up as a reduction in costs. The picture doesn't look so rosy when both regulatory credits and Bitcoin gains are excluded:\n\nDATA SOURCE: TESLA.
