The move followed a better than40% rise for the fledgling software companyon Thursday, and reflects a combination of factors that once again show that retail investors are playing a major role in how individual stocks move.</p>\n<p>Support.com has historically sought to provide outsourced customer support functions for business customers, looking to serve industries across the economy with voice, chat, and self-serve customer service functions. Yet the company took an interest in the cryptocurrency arena earlier this year, announcing a merger with crypto mining company Greenidge Generation. That has linked the company's fortunes to those of the cryptocurrency market, and with prices of many of the most-followed crypto tokens having recovered substantially in recent weeks, Support.com has gained more attention.</p>\n<p>In fact, that heightened visibility from retail investors might well have spawned the big move higher for Support.com. Like many other stocks that retail investors have focused their efforts on lately, Support.com has a substantial following of institutional investors that are selling the stock short. That's reopened a playbook that individual investors have used on a number of occasions in 2021 to try to prompt a short squeeze, and that's a big part of why a stock that was priced at $2 per share as recently March is now sporting a share price 25 times that level currently.</p>\n<p>As market participants have learned from the experiences of companies like<b>AMC Entertainment Holdings</b>and<b>GameStop</b>, share prices can stay at elevated levels for a long time even when there are substantial challenges that their underlying fundamental businesses still have to overcome. At this pace, the index would shed around 2.4% over a three-day period, also the worst since that July tumble.</p>\n<p>If you want reasons for the decline, well, there are plenty. Taper fears are at the top of the list, despite the fact that the Fed has been about as transparent about the fact that it will end its bond-buying program soon as it’s possible to be. (Can a big article in The Wall Street Journal with the headline “Fed Officials Weigh Ending Asset Purchases by Mid-2022” be any more obvious?)</p>\n<p>But history shows that markets react to changes in monetary policy—even when they know the change is coming, says Bleakley Advisory Group’s Peter Boockvar. “[We] have to be reminded of how stocks responded to EVERY SINGLE change in Fed policy towards tightening since 2010,” he writes. “Outside of the August 2015 selloff related to the Chinese yuan modest devaluation and the Covid induced crash, every notable correction in stocks surrounded a change Fed policy toward tightening.”</p>\n<p>Covid concerns continue to rise, whether its cases forcing shutdowns in <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NGD\">New</a> Zealand or reports that the vaccines aren’t as effective against the Delta variant as originally thought. Again, none of this is terribly new, but then again, the market chooses when it wants to react, not folks with a keyboard.</p>\n<p>If you listen to the thrum of the Street, though, you get the sense that the market has been due for a correction. There’s some truth to that. The S&amp;P 500 has been more than 8% above its 200-day moving average for 198 days, the longest in 40 years and among the five longest stretches in history. These streaks are usually followed by a couple of months of choppy trading, with a median gain of just 0.3% over the following two months. “By the time it reached the current length, other super-strong trends saw buyers take a break,” writes Sundial Capital Research’s Jason Goepfert.</p>\n<p>Of course, it might just be August, says DataTrek’s Nicholas Colas. He notes that the S&amp;P 500 typically has one 1% up or down move every week since 1957, but has had just three during the first seven weeks of the third quarter. But, what if we could use options to manufacture our own dividend?&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Let's say I have $45,000 that I want to invest in TSLA stock. I could simply buy some shares and hope the stock rises.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>But, if I want a more conservative play, I could sell a March 18, 2022-expiring put with a strike price of 450 and set aside the $45,000 in case I am assigned on the short put.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>That 450 strike put generates around $2,680 in option premium in just under eight months.&nbsp;So, my $45,000 investment into Tesla is giving me a 10.14% annualized \"dividend.\" What's the catch? Well, much like owning Tesla shares, if the stock keeps dropping, I'm going to lose money in the short-term.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>If Tesla stock is below 450 next March, then I will be forced to buy 100 shares at 450 each.&nbsp;</p>\n<h3>10% Annualized Return If Put Expires Worthless</h3>\n<p>But, if TSLA stays above 450, then I achieve a 10.14% per annum return when the put expires worthless.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Cash secured puts are a bullish strategy but are considered slightly less bullish than owning Tesla stock because the potential gains are limited to the premium received.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The 450 strike put currently has a delta of 9, so selling this put gives you an exposure roughly equivalent to owning nine shares of Tesla stock, although this will change as the stock moves up and down.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>One method that can help cut the risk is to turn it into a spread and buy a $250 strike put. But, what if we could use options to manufacture our own dividend?&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Let's say I have $45,000 that I want to invest in TSLA stock. I could simply buy some shares and hope the stock rises.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>But, if I want a more conservative play, I could sell a March 18, 2022-expiring put with a strike price of 450 and set aside the $45,000 in case I am assigned on the short put.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>That 450 strike put generates around $2,680 in option premium in just under eight months.&nbsp;So, my $45,000 investment into Tesla is giving me a 10.14% annualized \"dividend.\" What's the catch? Well, much like owning Tesla shares, if the stock keeps dropping, I'm going to lose money in the short-term.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>If Tesla stock is below 450 next March, then I will be forced to buy 100 shares at 450 each.&nbsp;</p>\n<h3>10% Annualized Return If Put Expires Worthless</h3>\n<p>But, if TSLA stays above 450, then I achieve a 10.14% per annum return when the put expires worthless.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Cash secured puts are a bullish strategy but are considered slightly less bullish than owning Tesla stock because the potential gains are limited to the premium received.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The 450 strike put currently has a delta of 9, so selling this put gives you an exposure roughly equivalent to owning nine shares of Tesla stock, although this will change as the stock moves up and down.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>One method that can help cut the risk is to turn it into a spread and buy a $250 strike put. It has a great ticker symbol, high short interest, and a compelling value proposition for consumers. Add it all up, and it’s not hard to see why Reddit took a liking to WISH stock.</p>\n<p>Question is, will ContextLogic be a flash in the pan for meme traders? Or is this move going to have real sticking power? I’m inclined toward the latter option.</p>\n<p>While ContextLogic has some real pressing questions it will need to answer over time, there’s the foundations of a good business.</p>\n<p><b>Digital Treasure Hunt and WISH Stock</b></p>\n<p>ContextLogic, which operates Wish.com, has an intriguing business model. It essentially serves as a sort of online flea market or dollar store.</p>\n<p>Its motto is “Shopping made fun” and it backs that up. Wish frequently offers discounts in the 70-90% range. It’s a bargain hunter’s paradise.</p>\n<p>Wish has products from manufacturers with very low operating costs, such as from firms based in China. These products then sell to buyers in other markets, offering a sort of geographical arbitrage.</p>\n<p>These products sometimes have some problems. Consumers wanting consistently high-quality merchandise probably want to look elsewhere. However, Wish.com offers products at rock bottom prices, and oftentimes the quality greatly exceeds what you’d expect to receive at that sort of price point.</p>\n<p>It’s a bit of a hit-or-miss experience. But with such low prices, it’s hardly a big deal when the occasional order misfires. And when you find something cool on Wish at a great price, it can be a euphoric experience.</p>\n<p>ContextLogic has members of management that were high-ups at<b>Alphabet</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>GOOGL</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>AirBnb</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>ABNB</u></b>). Don’t let the discount online marketplace business fool you, Wish is a sophisticated operation.</p>\n<p><b>Weak Stock Price Performance</b></p>\n<p>Wish may have waited a quarter too long to perform its initial public offering (IPO). By the time WISH stock started trading in December 2020, traders were already selling e-commerce stocks to buy economic reopening trades.</p>\n<p>The time for e-commerce stocks was last summer or fall, not 2021.</p>\n<p>ContextLogic also reported a pretty ugly quarter in May. The company’s earnings fell short of expectations. It also offered revenue guidance below expectations.</p>\n<p>Revenues grew 76% year-over-year, which is great. However, its core revenue growth of 40% was much slower and gave investors pause.</p>\n<p>These results aren’t a disaster for the company. It’s a young firm with fast growth, even if that growth was a little below expectations. Still, management will need to start beating estimates again if it wants to get a sustained rally in its share price going.</p>\n<p>Short squeezes are great, but long-term investors will want to see a stronger fundamental picture before committing too heavily to WISH stock.</p>\n<p>WISH Stock Verdict</p>\n<p>A lot of traders are wishing that they had sold ContextLogic stock during the big run-up last week. The move from $8 up to $15 in a couple of days was quite a remarkable one indeed. Profit-takers have sent the stock back down significantly since then.</p>\n<p>However, there’s a decent chance that WISH stock still has another big surge ahead of it. The fact is that shares weren’t too pricey before the short squeeze excitement kicked off.</p>\n<p>As such, there should still be plenty of opportunities for buyers here around $11. Shares were at $32 in February, after all.
