Significant","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1174542704","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Only buy BBIG stock with money you can afford to lose","content":"
I’ve been writing about investments since 2004. Rarely have I seen a press release like the oneVinco Ventures(NASDAQ:BBIG) sent out to announce its annual proxy details for owners of BBIG stock.
\n
So riveting was its press release,InvestorPlace’sChris MacDonald discussed the seven most important things to know about its corporate presentation that Vinco included in its proxy.
\n
A total of six pages, excluding the cover page and legalese at the end,the presentation boosted Vinco Ventures stock by more than 10% over the next two trading days.
\n
As I write this, the company’s stock has cooled off a little but is still much higher than its $2 price a month ago. BBIG trades today at just above $8.
\n
The last time I wrote about BBIG was at the beginning of August. Rarely have I seen a press release like the oneVinco Ventures(NASDAQ:BBIG) sent out to announce its annual proxy details for owners of BBIG stock.\nSo riveting was its press release,InvestorPlace’sChris MacDonald discussed the seven most important things to know about its corporate presentation that Vinco included in its proxy.\nA total of six pages, excluding the cover page and legalese at the end,the presentation boosted Vinco Ventures stock by more than 10% over the next two trading days.\nAs I write this, the company’s stock has cooled off a little but is still much higher than its $2 price a month ago. BBIG trades today at just above $8.\nThe last time I wrote about BBIG was at the beginning of August. I called it “a very big dog with fleas.”\nWhile I shake my head at the insanity of the current markets, Vinco’s management seems to be slicing and dicing their way to shareholder riches.\nCan its winning streak last?\nThe Latest Hysteria Surrounding BBIG Stock\nAs my colleague mentioned in his Sep. 8 article, Vinco plans to spin off several of its assets held by its Emmersive Entertainment LLC unit into a separately traded public company called Cryptyde.\nIt will focus on acquisitions related to blockchain technologies. It will also hold the company’s E-NFT tokenization platform.\nIf you go to the E-NFT website, you’ll see that Emmersive Entertainment thinks very highly of itself and E-NFT.\n“The E-NFT is the next NFT market disruptor, offering non-fungible art and memorabilia in a way never before seen by utilizing our unrivaled creative team and programming prowess.”\nI’m sure everyone behind Emmersive are fine people.\nHowever, I’m struggling to understand why the company didn’t issue a separate press release with the update on what’s happening with Emmersive’s spinout. It’s right there in its June 24 press release.\n“This is a great opportunity for the shareholders of record on the effective date,” Vinco CEO Christopher Ferguson said in June. “The technology that Emmersive continues to develop is I believe industry changing and we felt the best way to ensure the shareholders receive that value is by splitting the two entities and providing the shareholders the proverbial ‘two bites of the apple.’”\nThe funny thing is, it only acquired Emmersive in April in an all-stock transaction that saw Vinco issue one million preferred membership units to Emmersive’s shareholders that they could convert into one million BBIG shares.\nIn addition, the Emmersive management had four earnout targets worth an additional four million conditional preferred units that ultimately could be converted into four million Vinco shares.\nAssuming all the units convert to shares, Immersive was acquired for approximately $52 million at current prices. As we all get ready to welcome summer days that more closely resemble our pre-pandemic lives, the markets are rotating away from the growth stocks it favored during lockdowns and quarantines, especially tech shares.
\n
For instance, the tech-heavyNASDAQ 100index is down more than 4% since the start of May. As a result, many retail investors are wondering which sectors and stocks might be do well in the remaining days of the quarter.
\n
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic remains the most crucial market factor. Last year, that meant buying businesses that benefited from trends resulting from the pandemic and the lockdown (such as digitalization, health care, renewable energy or work-from-home). However, many of this year’s leading stocks are those most likely to benefit from a recovering economy and a ‘return to normalcy.’
\n
With that information, here are seven hot stocks to buy:
\n
\n
Align Technology(NASDAQ:ALGN)
\n
Ford Motor(NYSE:F)
\n
Freeport-McMoRan(NYSE:FCX)
\n
Hilton Worldwide(NYSE:HLT)
\n
Stryker(NYSE:SYK)
\n
Take-Two Interactive(NASDAQ:TTWO)
\n
Verizon Communications(NYSE:VZ)
\n
\n
Over the past 12 months, investors were able to find quality names at good value. Now, valuation levels are quite stretched. Yet, there are still plenty of robust investment opportunities out there, especially for long-term investors.
\n
Hot stocks to buy: Align Technology(ALGN)Source: rafapress / Shutterstock.com
\n
52-week range:$195.56– $647.20
\n
Dental device groupAlign Technology is primarily known for its Invisalign system, an alternative to traditional braces to correct malocclusions, or misalignment of the teeth. You might know of this product as invisible dental braces. The company also manufactures scanners and offers computer-aided design (CAD) services to support the customization of these liners.
\n
Align Technologyreported record-setting first quarter resultson April 28. Total revenue was $894.8 million, up 62.4% year-over-year (YoY). On a non-GAAP basis, first quarter net income was $198.4 million, or $2.49 per diluted share. This represented a 242% increase from $57.9 million, or 73 cents per diluted share, recorded in the prior year quarter.Cash and equivalents stood at $1.1 billion.
\n
CEO Joe Hogan said:
\n
\n “It’s remarkable to think about the pace of growth and adoption that we are experiencing worldwide, especially when considering it took 10 years to achieve our one millionth Invisalign patient milestone. Now we are adding one million new Invisalign patients in less than six months.”\n
\n
The pandemic has meant many individuals had to postpone non-essential dental procedures. As our economy opens up further, more people are likely to start elective dental procedures, such as tooth straightening treatments. Meanwhile, the number of orthodontists and general practitioner dentists using theInvisalign system stateside is on the rise. Therefore, the company is likely to keep growing for many quarters to come. Its market capitalization (cap) stands at $43 billion.
\n
Year-to-date (YTD), the shares are up 3% and hit a record high in late April. ALGN stock’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios are 65.36 and 16.88.
\n
Short-term profit-taking could put pressure on the shares. A potential decline toward $520 would improve the margin of safety.
\n
Ford Motor(F)Source: Vitaliy Karimov / Shutterstock.com
\n
52-week range: $4.52 – $13.62
\n
Legacy automaker Ford Motorreported first quarter resultsin late April. Revenue increased 6% to $36.2 billion. GAAP net income was $3.3 billion, compared to net loss of $2 billion in the prior year quarter.Adjusted earnings per share came at 89 cents.
\n
CEO Jim Farley regards the Mustang Mach-E GT as Ford’s first serious push into theelectric vehicle(EV) space. Going forward, CFO John Lawler highlighted that semiconductor shortage, exacerbated by a recent fire at a supplier plant in Japan, would likely get worse before bottoming out in Q2. The auto industry, as well as many other sectors, are under pressure due to the chip shortage worldwide.
\n
YTD, Ford shares are up over 32%. Forward P/E and P/S ratios stand at 11.76 and 0.37, respectively. Since the earnings report, F stock has come under pressure. Any further decline toward $10 would improve the risk/return profile.
\n
In addition to its legacy business, the new decade will likely see Ford gain gain market share in the growing EV industry. Buy-and-hold investor should put the shares on their radar.
\n
Freeport-McMoRan(FCX)Source: MICHAEL A JACKSON FILMS / Shutterstock.com
\n
52-week range:$7.80 – $44.50
\n
Next in line is one of the largest copper miners worldwide, the Phoenix,Arizona-based Freeport-McMoRan. And EVs use up to four times more copper than traditional cars.
\n
Freeport-McMoRanreported first-quarter resultsin late April. For hotels, revenue per available room is the key measure of top-line performance.
\n
Hiltonreported first quarter resultson May 5.Total revenue fell more than 54% to $874 million. Revenue per available room declined about 38% from a year earlier. Net loss was $109 million.
\n
CEO Christopher J. We expect this positive momentum to continue as vaccines are more widely distributed and our customers feel safe traveling again.”
\n
So far in 2021, HLT stock is up 9%. Forward P/E and P/S ratios are47.85and10.54respectively. Many investors see the shares as a bet on the post-pandemic recovery. Adjusted diluted EPS was $1.93, a 4.9% YoY increase. The current price supports a dividend yield of 0.99%. As life gets back to normal in the coming months, the company should see higher procedure volumes, translating into stronger revenue.
\n
Furthermore, our country is aging. Thus, its products are likely to be used by more individuals. However, the shares are richly valued. As we all get ready to welcome summer days that more closely resemble our pre-pandemic lives, the markets are rotating away from the growth stocks it favored during lockdowns and quarantines, especially tech shares.\nFor instance, the tech-heavyNASDAQ 100index is down more than 4% since the start of May. As a result, many retail investors are wondering which sectors and stocks might be do well in the remaining days of the quarter.\nThe ongoing Covid-19 pandemic remains the most crucial market factor. Last year, that meant buying businesses that benefited from trends resulting from the pandemic and the lockdown (such as digitalization, health care, renewable energy or work-from-home). However, many of this year’s leading stocks are those most likely to benefit from a recovering economy and a ‘return to normalcy.’\nWith that information, here are seven hot stocks to buy:\n\nAlign Technology(NASDAQ:ALGN)\nFord Motor(NYSE:F)\nFreeport-McMoRan(NYSE:FCX)\nHilton Worldwide(NYSE:HLT)\nStryker(NYSE:SYK)\nTake-Two Interactive(NASDAQ:TTWO)\nVerizon Communications(NYSE:VZ)\n\nOver the past 12 months, investors were able to find quality names at good value. Now, valuation levels are quite stretched. Yet, there are still plenty of robust investment opportunities out there, especially for long-term investors.\nHot stocks to buy: Align Technology(ALGN)Source: rafapress / Shutterstock.com\n52-week range:$195.56– $647.20\nDental device groupAlign Technology is primarily known for its Invisalign system, an alternative to traditional braces to correct malocclusions, or misalignment of the teeth. You might know of this product as invisible dental braces. The company also manufactures scanners and offers computer-aided design (CAD) services to support the customization of these liners.\nAlign Technologyreported record-setting first quarter resultson April 28. Total revenue was $894.8 million, up 62.4% year-over-year (YoY). On a non-GAAP basis, first quarter net income was $198.4 million, or $2.49 per diluted share. This represented a 242% increase from $57.9 million, or 73 cents per diluted share, recorded in the prior year quarter.Cash and equivalents stood at $1.1 billion.\nCEO Joe Hogan said:\n\n “It’s remarkable to think about the pace of growth and adoption that we are experiencing worldwide, especially when considering it took 10 years to achieve our one millionth Invisalign patient milestone. Now we are adding one million new Invisalign patients in less than six months.”\n\nThe pandemic has meant many individuals had to postpone non-essential dental procedures. Its market capitalization (cap) stands at $43 billion.\nYear-to-date (YTD), the shares are up 3% and hit a record high in late April. ALGN stock’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios are 65.36 and 16.88.\nShort-term profit-taking could put pressure on the shares. A potential decline toward $520 would improve the margin of safety.\nFord Motor(F)Source: Vitaliy Karimov / Shutterstock.com\n52-week range: $4.52 – $13.62\nLegacy automaker Ford Motorreported first quarter resultsin late April. Revenue increased 6% to $36.2 billion. GAAP net income was $3.3 billion, compared to net loss of $2 billion in the prior year quarter.Adjusted earnings per share came at 89 cents.\nCEO Jim Farley regards the Mustang Mach-E GT as Ford’s first serious push into theelectric vehicle(EV) space. Going forward, CFO John Lawler highlighted that semiconductor shortage, exacerbated by a recent fire at a supplier plant in Japan, would likely get worse before bottoming out in Q2. The auto industry, as well as many other sectors, are under pressure due to the chip shortage worldwide.\nYTD, Ford shares are up over 32%. Forward P/E and P/S ratios stand at 11.76 and 0.37, respectively. Since the earnings report, F stock has come under pressure. Any further decline toward $10 would improve the risk/return profile.\nIn addition to its legacy business, the new decade will likely see Ford gain gain market share in the growing EV industry. Buy-and-hold investor should put the shares on their radar.\nFreeport-McMoRan(FCX)Source: MICHAEL A JACKSON FILMS / Shutterstock.com\n52-week range:$7.80 – $44.50\nNext in line is one of the largest copper miners worldwide, the Phoenix,Arizona-based Freeport-McMoRan. Itssegments include refined copper products, copper in concentrate, gold, molybdenum, oil and other.\nRegularInvestorPlace.comreaders know well how copper has been under the spotlight in recent months. Forward P/E and P/S ratios are16.98and 3.97, respectively. Copper bulls could look to buy the dips in the shares.\nHilton Worldwide(HLT)Source: josefkubes / Shutterstock.com\n52-week range:$62.47– $132.69\nHilton Worldwide is one of the leading names in theleisure and hotel space, operating more than a million rooms across 18 brands. Needless to say, for over a year, hotel room bookings have taken a beating.\nHampton and Hilton are currently the group’s two largest brands by total room count at 28% and 21%, respectively. For hotels, revenue per available room is the key measure of top-line performance.\nHiltonreported first quarter resultson May 5.Total revenue fell more than 54% to $874 million. Adjusted diluted EPS was $1.93, a 4.9% YoY increase. Quarter-end cash and equivalents stood at $2.2 billion.\nManagement cited, “As we recover from the pandemic, we continue to expect 2021 organic net sales growth to be in the range of 8% to 10% from 2019, as this is a more normal baseline given the variability throughout 2020, and now expect adjusted net earnings per diluted share to be in the range of $9.05 to $9.30.”\nYTD, Stryker stock has returned about 4% and hit a record high in late April. The current price supports a dividend yield of 0.99%. TTWO stock has given up some of its recent gains after hitting an all-time high in early February. Forward P/E and P/S ratios are 28.33 and 5.95, respectively.\nThe recent pullback offers a good opportunity for long-term investors. Bear in mind the company will report Q4 results on May 18. Fool","summary":"Diversification isn't necessary if you know what you're doing, according to the Oracle of Omaha.","content":"
If you've ever wondered why Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) CEO Warren Buffett's name gets brought up so much on Wall Street, it's because of his impressive investing track record. Buffett isn't infallible, but he's delivered an annual average return of 20% since the mid-1960s for his shareholders. In aggregate, we're talking about a return of more than 2,800,000%!
\n
What's even more amazing is that Buffett hasn't done anything the average investors couldn't do to net these huge gains. He focuses on a few sectors and industries that interest him, buys companies with clear-cut competitive advantages, and most importantly hangs onto those stakes for a very long time.
\n
Another source of Buffett's success is concentration. The Oracle of Omaha doesn't believe diversification is necessary if you know what you're doing. This is readily apparent in Berkshire Hathaway's $302.6 billion investment portfolio. As of this past weekend, 85% of Berkshire's invested assets ($257.3 billion) were tied up in only 10 stocks.
\n
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.
\n
1. Apple: $115.6 billion
\n
Tech kingpin Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) makes up about 38% of Warren Buffett's portfolio by itself and has been dubbed \"Berkshire's third business\" by the Oracle of Omaha. Apple offers some of the strongest branding in the world, is the clear leader in smartphones in the U.S., and has been pivoting to higher-margin services under the leadership of CEO Tim Cook. Though iPhone sales remain Apple's top product, services becoming a larger percentage of total sales will help remove the revenue lumpiness associated with new product launches.
\n
2. Bank of America: $43.2 billion
\n
Bank stocks have long been Buffett's favorite place to put Berkshire's money work. Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) is Berkshire's unquestioned largest bank holding, with more than 14% of invested assets. Bank of America has done an excellent job of controlling its noninterest expenses by consolidating branches and emphasizing digital banking. It's also in line to benefit more than any other money-center bank from an eventual rise in interest rates.
\n
\n
3. American Express: $24.9 billion
\n
Payment processor and lender American Express (NYSE:AXP) is Buffett's third-largest and third-longest-held stock. After 28 years of holding AmEx, Berkshire Hathaway's position has grown to almost $25 billion in value. This is a cyclical company that benefits from long periods of economic expansion, as well as its ability to attract affluent clientele. These well-to-do clients are less likely to change their spending habits when economic hiccups arise, which often means less worry about credit delinquencies for AmEx.
\n
4. Coca-Cola: $22.5 billion
\n
Speaking of long-tenured holdings, beverage behemoth Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) is the longest-held stock in Buffett's portfolio (33 years). Coca-Cola operates in all but two countries worldwide (North Korea and Cuba) and has more than 20 brands generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Thanks to its top-notch marketing team, it's also the best-known consumer goods brand. Coke has holiday tie-ins, has allied itself with well-known brand ambassadors, and is embracing digital advertising and social media as a way to get its message to a younger generation.
\n
\n
5. Kraft Heinz: $14.1 billion
\n
There's little question that Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ:KHC) is the oddball holding in Buffett's top 10. That's because Buffett admits to Heinz overpaying for Kraft Foods, and the combined company largely underperforming in recent years. This includes a greater than $15 billion goodwill writedown in 2019. While the pandemic has helped boost demand for packaged foods, Kraft Heinz's balance sheet is still bogged down by high debt levels and goodwill. In short, Berkshire Hathaway is sort of stuck with its 325.6 million shares.
\n
6. Verizon Communications: $9.1 billion
\n
Telecommunications giant Verizon (NYSE:VZ) is a fairly recent addition to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio, although it's been bought hand over fist in the previous two quarters by Buffett and his team. The lure of Verizon is likely its 4.4% dividend yield, which is arguably one of the safest high-yield payouts on the planet. What's more, Verizon should benefit immensely from the rollout of 5G infrastructure. It's been a decade since the last major upgrade to download speeds, which suggests that a multiyear tech upgrade cycle will lead to higher-margin data consumption.
\n
\n
7. U.S. Bancorp: $8.7 billion
\n
Next to BofA, U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) is Buffett's favorite bank stock. It's a company that regularly trades at a premium to its book value -- and for good reason. U.S. Bancorp has seen its users embrace technology, with the percentage of consumer loans completed digitally skyrocketing over the past two years. Being able to consolidate its physical branches, while also avoiding riskier derivative investments that have gotten U.S. money-center banks in trouble, has helped U.S. Bancorp to some of the highest return on assets among big banks.
\n
8. Moody's: $8.5 billion
\n
Credit agency and analytics company Moody's (NYSE:MCO) is yet another top-10 holding that's been held for longer than two decades. With an initial cost basis of just over $10, Berkshire Hathaway is sitting on an unrealized gain of better than 3,300% -- and this isn't accounting for dividends. Historically low lending rates have kept Moody's credit rating segment busy, while volatile trading markets are boosting demand for Moody's analytics. Buffett isn't infallible, but he's delivered an annual average return of 20% since the mid-1960s for his shareholders. In aggregate, we're talking about a return of more than 2,800,000%!\nWhat's even more amazing is that Buffett hasn't done anything the average investors couldn't do to net these huge gains. He focuses on a few sectors and industries that interest him, buys companies with clear-cut competitive advantages, and most importantly hangs onto those stakes for a very long time.\nAnother source of Buffett's success is concentration. The Oracle of Omaha doesn't believe diversification is necessary if you know what you're doing. This is readily apparent in Berkshire Hathaway's $302.6 billion investment portfolio. As of this past weekend, 85% of Berkshire's invested assets ($257.3 billion) were tied up in only 10 stocks.\nBerkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.\n1. Apple: $115.6 billion\nTech kingpin Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) makes up about 38% of Warren Buffett's portfolio by itself and has been dubbed \"Berkshire's third business\" by the Oracle of Omaha. Apple offers some of the strongest branding in the world, is the clear leader in smartphones in the U.S., and has been pivoting to higher-margin services under the leadership of CEO Tim Cook. Though iPhone sales remain Apple's top product, services becoming a larger percentage of total sales will help remove the revenue lumpiness associated with new product launches.\n2. Bank of America: $43.2 billion\nBank stocks have long been Buffett's favorite place to put Berkshire's money work. Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) is Berkshire's unquestioned largest bank holding, with more than 14% of invested assets. Bank of America has done an excellent job of controlling its noninterest expenses by consolidating branches and emphasizing digital banking. It's also in line to benefit more than any other money-center bank from an eventual rise in interest rates.\nImage source: American Express.\n3. American Express: $24.9 billion\nPayment processor and lender American Express (NYSE:AXP) is Buffett's third-largest and third-longest-held stock. After 28 years of holding AmEx, Berkshire Hathaway's position has grown to almost $25 billion in value. This is a cyclical company that benefits from long periods of economic expansion, as well as its ability to attract affluent clientele. These well-to-do clients are less likely to change their spending habits when economic hiccups arise, which often means less worry about credit delinquencies for AmEx.\n4. Coca-Cola: $22.5 billion\nSpeaking of long-tenured holdings, beverage behemoth Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) is the longest-held stock in Buffett's portfolio (33 years). Coca-Cola operates in all but two countries worldwide (North Korea and Cuba) and has more than 20 brands generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Thanks to its top-notch marketing team, it's also the best-known consumer goods brand. Coke has holiday tie-ins, has allied itself with well-known brand ambassadors, and is embracing digital advertising and social media as a way to get its message to a younger generation.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n5. Kraft Heinz: $14.1 billion\nThere's little question that Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ:KHC) is the oddball holding in Buffett's top 10. In short, Berkshire Hathaway is sort of stuck with its 325.6 million shares.\n6. Verizon Communications: $9.1 billion\nTelecommunications giant Verizon (NYSE:VZ) is a fairly recent addition to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio, although it's been bought hand over fist in the previous two quarters by Buffett and his team. The lure of Verizon is likely its 4.4% dividend yield, which is arguably one of the safest high-yield payouts on the planet. What's more, Verizon should benefit immensely from the rollout of 5G infrastructure. It's been a decade since the last major upgrade to download speeds, which suggests that a multiyear tech upgrade cycle will lead to higher-margin data consumption.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n7. U.S. Bancorp: $8.7 billion\nNext to BofA, U.S. Bancorp to some of the highest return on assets among big banks.\n8. Moody's: $8.5 billion\nCredit agency and analytics company Moody's (NYSE:MCO) is yet another top-10 holding that's been held for longer than two decades. It's hard to envision Buffett ever selling this stake.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n9. BYD: $6.2 billion\nBack in 2008, Buffett acquired 225 million shares of China-based electric-vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD (OTC:BYDDY) for $1.03 a share (it closed this past week at $27.65 a share). In March, BYD sold 16,301 EVs, which is more than higher-profile competitors NIO and XPeng delivered on a combined basis in the same month. With the Society of Automotive Engineers of China forecasting that half of all new vehicles sales in 2035 will be powered by alternative energy, BYD is in pole position to disrupt the largest auto market in the world.\n10. DaVita: $4.4 billion\nRounding out the top 10 is kidney dialysis services company DaVita (NYSE:DVA). Buffett's fascination with the company is likely a numbers play. As the clear leader in providing these services, DaVita should see a steady uptick in demand and reimbursement for its services.
