The company has "almost 3.6 billion people who actively use one or more of our services," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company's most recent earnings call.

But, as Spider-Man's Uncle Ben said, "with great power comes great responsibility." Facebook has great power, but it has often struggled with behaving with great responsibility.

The company ends the year with some exciting opportunities ahead and a bold plan to reshape its brand. Zuckerberg and company, however, do that under an increasing cloud of scrutiny.

What Did Facebook Know?

Former Facebook employee Frances Haugen testified in the U.S. Senate and she was not kind to her one-time employer. She told Congress that the company chose to prioritize growth over keeping people safe on its platforms and she shared internal data that suggested that Facebook knows that some of its products caused harm.

"The result has been more division, more harm, more lies, more threats, and more combat. In some cases, this dangerous online talk has led to actual

violence that harms and even kills people," Haugen testified,NPR reported.

Haugen copied thousands of pages of internal documents before she left Facebook. Many of those were later published by The Wall Street Journal.

"During my time at Facebook, I came to realize a devastating truth: Almost no one outside of Facebook knows what happens inside Facebook," Haugen told Congress. "The company intentionally hides vital information from the public, from the U.S. government, and from governments around the world."

Facebook's Zuckerberg Responds

Zuckerberg has never been a great spokesperson for his company, but he did try to address its problems head-on during its last earnings call of the 2021 calendar year.

Before we get to our product update, I want to discuss the recent debate around our company. I believe large organizations should be [inaudible], so I'd much rather live in a society where they are than one where they can't be. Good criticism helps us get better, but my view is that what we are seeing is a coordinated effort to selectively use leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company.

He also tried to address and explain the steps the company has taken to make its products safer for customers.

The reality is that we have an open culture where we encourage discussion and research about our work so we can make progress on many complex issues that are not specific to just us. We have an industry-leading program to study the effects of our products and provide transparency to our progress because we care about getting this right. The company has \"almost 3.6 billion people who actively use one or more of our services,\" CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company's most recent earnings call. But, as Spider-Man's Uncle Ben said, \"with great power comes great responsibility.\" Facebook has great power, but it has often struggled with behaving with great responsibility. The company ends the year with some exciting opportunities ahead and a bold plan to reshape its brand. Zuckerberg and company, however, do that under an increasing cloud of scrutiny. What Did Facebook Know?Former Facebook employee Frances Haugen testified in the U.S. Senate and she was not kind to her one-time employer. She told Congress that the company chose to prioritize growth over keeping people safe on its platforms and she shared internal data that suggested that Facebook knows that some of its products caused harm.\"The result has been more division, more harm, more lies, more threats, and more combat. In some cases, this dangerous online talk has led to actualviolence that harms and even kills people,\" Haugen testified,NPR reported.Haugen copied thousands of pages of internal documents before she left Facebook. Many of those were later published by The Wall Street Journal.\"During my time at Facebook, I came to realize a devastating truth: Almost no one outside of Facebook knows what happens inside Facebook,\" Haugen told Congress. \"The company intentionally hides vital information from the public, from the U.S. government, and from governments around the world.\"Facebook's Zuckerberg RespondsZuckerberg has never been a great spokesperson for his company, but he did try to address its problems head-on during its last earnings call of the 2021 calendar year. We have an industry-leading program to study the effects of our products and provide transparency to our progress because we care about getting this right. fourth straight session of gains, as strong U.S. retail sales underscored economic strength and eased worries from Omicron-driven flight cancellations that hit travel stocks.
\n
U.S. retail sales increased 8.5% year-over-year this holiday season, powered by an ecommerce boom, according to a Mastercard Inc report, giving the S&P 500 retailing index(.SPXRT)a boost.
\n
Travel-related stocks, typically sensitive to coronavirus news, declined after U.S. airlines canceled about 800 more flights on Monday after nixing thousands during the Christmas weekend, as Omicron cases soared.
\n
The S&P 1500 airlines index shed 0.57%. Cruise operators Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Royal Caribbean(RCL.N)and Carnival Corp(CCL.N)fell 2.55%, 1.35% and 1.18% respectively, among the biggest decliners on the benchmark S&P 500.
\n
\"The market is in this interesting place where we have a strong consumer, with spending up 8% year over year. Personal consumption makes up 70% of our GDP, and that remains flush,\" said Sylvia Jablonski Kampaktsis, chief investment officer and co-founder at Defiance ETFs in New York.
\n
\"Omicron reminds us that we still exist in this corona ecosystem. Here are three healthcare stocks that Buffett owns, which you may also want to consider buying and holding for the long run.
\n
1. Johnson & Johnson
\n
The first pharma stock within Berkshire's portfolio to contemplate purchasing is Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ). While the stock is one of Buffett's smallest holdings, valued at just under $55 million, this doesn't take away from its 59 consecutive years of dividend increases that make the stock a Dividend King.
\n
J&J will be spinning off its slower-growing and less profitable consumer health segment in the next 18 to 24 months, which should allow the company to focus on its faster-growing, more profitable pharmaceutical segment.
\n
J&J has a strong existing drug portfolio, which should be able to make up for the upcoming 2025 to 2026 patent expirations for its top-selling drug known, Stelara. Year to date, the immunology drug made up just 9.9% of J&J's $69 billion in net sales.
\n
These drugs include the immunology blockbuster Tremfya, which received its first of three U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals to date in July 2017. Another drug that was recently approved by the FDA was the oncology blockbuster called Darzalex, which received its first of nine FDA approvals to date in November 2015. These two drugs have grown their year-to-date revenue at high-40% clips year over year and should remain under patent most of this decade.
\n
J&J's enviable existing drug portfolio and its nearly four dozen indications in late-stage clinical trials explain why analysts anticipate that the stock will deliver 8% annual non-GAAP (adjusted) earnings per share (EPS) growth over the next five years.
\n
Income investors can scoop up J&J's 2.5% dividend yield at a forward P/E ratio of just 16.2 times, which makes the steady healthcare stock a great buy for the long term.
\n
2. Bristol Myers Squibb
\n
Another Buffett stock that could be a great fit in your portfolio is Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY). Berkshire's Bristol Myers Squibb stake totals nearly $1.4 billion, making it one of the largest healthcare holdings in Berkshire's portfolio.
\n
Bristol Myers Squibb's oncology blockbusters Revlimid and Opdivo and the anticoagulant blockbuster co-owned with Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) named Eliquis each face patent expirations later this decade. While looming patent expirations on three drugs that account for approximately two-thirds of your company's total revenue sounds frightening, this is nothing new; it's just the nature of Bristol Myers Squibb's industry.
\n
What matters most is that a company is proactive in developing and acquiring its next generation of blockbuster drugs to absorb key patent expirations. With more than 50 compounds in over 40 different disease areas currently in development at Bristol Myers Squibb, this is exactly what the company has been doing for years now.
\n
As a result, analysts are projecting that Bristol Myers Squibb will be able to generate 6% annual earnings growth through the next five years.
\n
Yield-hungry investors can buy Bristol Myers Squibb's market-crushing 3.5% yield at a ridiculously cheap forward P/E ratio of 7.9, which is what makes the stock a buy for those looking to hedge against inflation.
\n
3. AbbVie
\n
Finally, a Buffett stock that'd also be a good fit for income investors is AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV). Berkshire currently holds about $1.9 billion worth of AbbVie stock.
\n
It's well known at this point that the biopharmaceutical's top-selling drug in the world, Humira, will be facing intense biosimilar competition in the U.S. beginning in 2023. Even though the immunology drug's U.S. sales made up 31% of AbbVie's $41.24 billion total year-to-date sales, the company's pipeline should be able to stabilize and grow its net revenue beyond 2023.
\n
AbbVie has 54 compounds in various stages of clinical trials, which is why analysts are forecasting that the stock will grow its adjusted EPS 4.5% annually in the next five years.
\n
AbbVie's massive 4.4% dividend yield can be picked up at a forward P/E ratio of only 9.3. This is an attractive valuation for a stock with the ability to fight off inflation with healthy dividend hikes.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Best Buffett Stocks to Buy for the Long Haul
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Best Buffett Stocks to Buy for the Long Haul\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-25 10:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Since Warren Buffett took full control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, it became a diversified holding company with investments in publicly traded companies totaling nearly $345 billion at the time of ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"ABBV":"艾伯维公司","BMY":"施贵宝","JNJ":"强生"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/12/24/3-best-buffett-stocks-to-buy-for-the-long-haul/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2193917872","content_text":"Since Warren Buffett took full control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, it became a diversified holding company with investments in publicly traded companies totaling nearly $345 billion at the time of writing.\nThe Oracle of Omaha's reputation of buying the highest quality businesses means that many individual investors could also benefit from adding these stocks to their portfolios. With more than 50 compounds in over 40 different disease areas currently in development at Bristol Myers Squibb, this is exactly what the company has been doing for years now.\nAs a result, analysts are projecting that Bristol Myers Squibb will be able to generate 6% annual earnings growth through the next five years.\nYield-hungry investors can buy Bristol Myers Squibb's market-crushing 3.5% yield at a ridiculously cheap forward P/E ratio of 7.9, which is what makes the stock a buy for those looking to hedge against inflation.\n3. AbbVie\nFinally, a Buffett stock that'd also be a good fit for income investors is AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV). Berkshire currently holds about $1.9 billion worth of AbbVie stock.\nIt's well known at this point that the biopharmaceutical's top-selling drug in the world, Humira, will be facing intense biosimilar competition in the U.S. beginning in 2023. Even though the immunology drug's U.S. sales made up 31% of AbbVie's $41.24 billion total year-to-date sales, the company's pipeline should be able to stabilize and grow its net revenue beyond 2023.\nAbbVie has 54 compounds in various stages of clinical trials, which is why analysts are forecasting that the stock will grow its adjusted EPS 4.5% annually in the next five years.\nAbbVie's massive 4.4% dividend yield can be picked up at a forward P/E ratio of only 9.3. This is an attractive valuation for a stock with the ability to fight off inflation with healthy dividend hikes.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":452,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":698511130,"gmtCreate":1640445670081,"gmtModify":1640445715690,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yeah","listText":"Yeah","text":"Yeah","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/698511130","repostId":"2193178191","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2193178191","pubTimestamp":1640398963,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2193178191?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-25 10:22","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Better Cloud Stock: Microsoft vs. Amazon","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2193178191","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Which tech giant is the better all-around investment?","content":"
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) own the two largest cloud infrastructure platforms in the world.
\n
Amazon Web Services (AWS) controlled 32% of that market in the third quarter of 2021, according to Canalys. Sparked by supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages across the economy, it was the highest increase in almost 40 years.
\n
For a company like Home Depot (NYSE:HD) that has done extremely well during the pandemic, the threat of rising costs is a real challenge heading into the new year, having possibly negative implications ahead of what is traditionally a busy spring and summer for the business.
\n
Continue reading to find out how this blue chip stock is dealing with the current situation.
\n
Lumber prices are going back up
\n
A major commodity that has a meaningful impact on Home Depot's business is lumber. From April 2020 to May 2021, lumber prices skyrocketed to nearly $1,700 per thousand board feet, an all-time record. Prices came down over the following few months, but they shot up again from mid-November to mid-December, settling at just over $1,000 per thousand board feet today. This is still extremely high from a historical perspective.
\n
\"Lumber is a driver of projects throughout the business, and that certainly carries on,\" Chief Executive Officer Craig Menear highlighted on the company's third-quarter earnings call. During Home Depot's fiscal second quarter that ended Aug. 1 (when lumber prices were sky-high), the company posted record quarterly sales of $41.1 billion. The gross margin of 33.2%, while down slightly from previous quarters, was still very healthy and in line with past results.
\n
This is a positive indicator of Home Depot's ability to handle the unpredictable price swings with a core commodity like lumber. As prices soared, unit sales fell. Even so, the business reported a historic quarter. Now, as lumber prices rise, especially ahead of the busy home-building and remodeling season in the spring and summer, don't be surprised if lumber unit sales start to drop again.
\n
Nonetheless, other product categories like outdoor garden, appliances, and kitchen and bath should be strong. And thanks to a robust housing market, characterized by low interest rates, consumers are increasingly looking to undertake renovation projects to boost the value of their existing homes. This underlying trend supports demand for the products and services Home Depot offers.
\n
\"We have effectively managed inflationary environments in the past, and we feel good about our ability to continue managing through the current environment,\" said President and Chief Operating Officer Ted Decker on the latest conference call with Wall Street analysts.
\n
Home Depot's success is undeniable
\n
One of Home Depot's overarching objectives is to be the low-cost provider in the home improvement industry. This means that the business wants to lag competitors when raising prices and lead when reducing prices. Obviously, this negatively impacts profitability in the near term as the company is hesitant to pass higher costs on to consumers.
\n
But if we look at Home Depot's historical performance, we see that this is definitely the right strategy to take. Over the past several years, while revenue has grown in the mid-single digits on a yearly basis, net income has soared as a result of expanding margins. In fiscal 2015, profit totaled $7 billion. Over the trailing-12-month period, it was almost $16 billion.
\n
And the business is popular among contractors and other professionals, who account for roughly 45% of sales. Sparked by supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages across the economy, it was the highest increase in almost 40 years. \nFor a company like Home Depot (NYSE:HD) that has done extremely well during the pandemic, the threat of rising costs is a real challenge heading into the new year, having possibly negative implications ahead of what is traditionally a busy spring and summer for the business. \nContinue reading to find out how this blue chip stock is dealing with the current situation. \nLumber prices are going back up \nA major commodity that has a meaningful impact on Home Depot's business is lumber. \n\"Lumber is a driver of projects throughout the business, and that certainly carries on,\" Chief Executive Officer Craig Menear highlighted on the company's third-quarter earnings call. During Home Depot's fiscal second quarter that ended Aug. 1 (when lumber prices were sky-high), the company posted record quarterly sales of $41.1 billion. The gross margin of 33.2%, while down slightly from previous quarters, was still very healthy and in line with past results. \nThis is a positive indicator of Home Depot's ability to handle the unpredictable price swings with a core commodity like lumber. As prices soared, unit sales fell. Even so, the business reported a historic quarter. Now, as lumber prices rise, especially ahead of the busy home-building and remodeling season in the spring and summer, don't be surprised if lumber unit sales start to drop again. \nNonetheless, other product categories like outdoor garden, appliances, and kitchen and bath should be strong. And thanks to a robust housing market, characterized by low interest rates, consumers are increasingly looking to undertake renovation projects to boost the value of their existing homes. This underlying trend supports demand for the products and services Home Depot offers. \n\"We have effectively managed inflationary environments in the past, and we feel good about our ability to continue managing through the current environment,\" said President and Chief Operating Officer Ted Decker on the latest conference call with Wall Street analysts.\nHome Depot's success is undeniable \nOne of Home Depot's overarching objectives is to be the low-cost provider in the home improvement industry. This means that the business wants to lag competitors when raising prices and lead when reducing prices. Obviously, this negatively impacts profitability in the near term as the company is hesitant to pass higher costs on to consumers. \nBut if we look at Home Depot's historical performance, we see that this is definitely the right strategy to take. Over the past several years, while revenue has grown in the mid-single digits on a yearly basis, net income has soared as a result of expanding margins. In fiscal 2015, profit totaled $7 billion. Over the trailing-12-month period, it was almost $16 billion. \nAnd the business is popular among contractors and other professionals, who account for roughly 45% of sales. Instead of immediately passing on higher input costs, which could alienate these high-value customers and push them to competitors, Home Depot understands that building long-term relationships with them is crucial to the success of the company. Sacrificing margin in unusual times like today to keep customers loyal is the right move. \nThe current economic environment is full of uncertainties with issues like the omicron coronavirus variant and tightening monetary policy receiving the bulk of investors' attention. When it comes to inflation in particular, I have no reason to believe that Home Depot won't be able to step up to whatever challenges 2022 brings.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":482,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691684059,"gmtCreate":1640184140343,"gmtModify":1640184170917,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$buy another lot for this discount price","listText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$buy another lot for this discount price","text":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$buy another lot for this discount price","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":17,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691684059","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":625,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691685971,"gmtCreate":1640184048110,"gmtModify":1640184079156,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Pfizer(PFE)$more orders more up boost","listText":"$Pfizer(PFE)$more orders more up boost","text":"$Pfizer(PFE)$more orders more up boost","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691685971","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":404,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691930526,"gmtCreate":1640113046778,"gmtModify":1640113329524,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$come n entertain me shiok shiok haha","listText":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$come n entertain me shiok shiok haha","text":"$AMC Entertainment(AMC)$come n entertain me shiok shiok haha","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691930526","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":765,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691930628,"gmtCreate":1640112946274,"gmtModify":1640112976391,"author":{"id":"3574547619690492","authorId":"3574547619690492","name":"UTOtrader","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82be6befb29ac8516e463638d3f659d5","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574547619690492","authorIdStr":"3574547619690492"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Pfizer(PFE)$time to buy. A lot of people say their positions in flashy technology companies are meant to be long-term holdings, but they're really just an effort to make a quick buck. And that's OK. Any profitable trade is technically a good trade. If you can get in and out at the right time, so be it.
\n
Thing is, there are plenty of tech names that are more than just flash-in-the-pan prospects, and are better suited for holding periods measured in years rather than weeks.
\n
Here's a closer look at three such technology companies. Not only will they be just as impressive 10 years from now as they are today, but their stocks should be trading at much higher prices.
\n
Microsoft
\n
It's tough to imagine a world without Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). Its Windows operating system is installed on three-fourths of the world's desktops and laptops, according to GlobalStats, and its Office productivity software remains the gold standard for the category. Sony's PlayStation gaming console enjoys more worldwide market share than Microsoft's Xbox, but the Xbox is closing the gap, and is still the most popular game console in the U.S.
\n
And these are things consumers can readily see. There's a whole different unseen array of Microsoft-made products that are doing similarly well. For instance, Canalys reports Microsoft's cloud computing business accounted for a second-best 19% of the world's first-quarter cloud infrastructure spending, and the company continues to close the gap with market-leader Amazon.
\n
\n
Now take a step back and ask a thoughtful, critical question: Is there any chance the world will have less need for computers, cloud computing, productivity software, or game consoles 10 years from now?
\n
Any reasonable and realistic answer has to be \"no.\" Indeed, it would be surprising if demand for these products and services wasn't considerably greater a decade from now. Being a market leader in multiple categories, Microsoft can steer the market's ongoing growth in a way that serves itself best. For example, the Windows operating system comes with trial versions of Office software pre-installed.
\n
Bolstering the bullish argument for long-term ownership of Microsoft is the company's evolving business model. Access to Azure, Office, and even video games can now be utilized on a monthly subscription basis, accessible via the cloud. This shift not only makes the company's products more affordable to begin using but also gives Microsoft a better chance of keeping those customers by making it easy to update and upgrade software.
\n
Last year, the last time Microsoft disclosed such data, it had already lined up more than $100 billion worth of subscription cloud revenue that had yet to be booked -- a figure that continues to edge upward.
\n
Palo Alto Networks
\n
Even after several high-profile cybersecurity gaffes embarrassed organizations ranging from Target to Equifax to Yahoo!, some of the world's most important companies are still being hacked. Most recently, Colonial Pipeline agreed to fork over $4.4 million to a computer hacking group known as Darkside to regain control of its 5,500 miles worth of refined oil pipelines.
\n
These things are preventable. They're just not being prevented, as too many organizations don't utilize all the digital defenses available to them. Perhaps the Colonial Pipeline debacle will encourage procurement of this protection.
\n
Enter Palo Alto Networks (NYSE:PANW). Simply put, Palo Alto offers software preventing unauthorized access to a company's network, internal apps, and data. It's even got a ransomware protection solution in its lineup that might have been able to save Colonial Pipeline a few million bucks.
\n
The opportunity is incredible, and should remain so for a while. P&S Intelligence believes the cybersecurity market will grow at an average annual pace of 12.6%, from 2019's $120 billion to $434 billion by 2030. That's a lot, but it's only a fraction of the $10.5 trillion that Cybersecurity Ventures believes cybercrime will cost the world in 2025 alone if enterprises don't step up their digital defense games.
\n
Palo Alto is doing fine, logging more than seven consecutive years of rising revenue as more and more outfits build their digital moats. Given the outlook, more of the same kind of growth is in the cards for a while.
\n
International Business Machines
\n
Finally, add International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) to your list of technology stocks to buy and hold for the next decade.
\n
Yes, this is the same IBM that failed to respond to the advent of things like cloud computing, mobile devices, and all that goes with both. The company's \"strategic imperatives\" plan unveiled in 2015 was meant to steer the company away from a legacy mainframe business that was already dying and toward more contemporary opportunities like the aforementioned cloud and mobile security. By and large, though, it was too little too late.
\n
The IBM of today, however, isn't the IBM from even as recently as two years ago. It's ready to compete where it counts.
\n
Take last month's revelation of new technologies capable of fabricating a 2-nanometer microchip as an example. The microscopic measure is in reference to how small a chip's transistors can be made and still function properly. The smaller, the better, as smaller transistors consume less power, operate faster, and require less space when room is a factor. For perspective, 7-nanometer chips are the best the market has to offer right now.
\n
It's not just more functional chips IBM is starting to develop, either. Just within the past few weeks, the company has unveiled a way for data centers to more efficiently store and retrieve data, and launched AutoSQL, which is capable of retrieving data eight times faster than previous approaches are. Both technologies have a myriad of potential uses, including in the artificial intelligence arena.
\n
Read between the lines. This isn't yesteryear's IBM.
\n
It could still take years for the company to fully monetize these and other breakthroughs, but they're worth the wait.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Technology Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Technology Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-04 23:31 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Let's be honest.
