there’s this guy who emails me his market outlook every so often.”\nThat’s howmy Barron’s column started one week nearly a dozen years ago, introducing the canny and clear-thinking financial advisor who has come to be known in print and on Twitter as the Mystery Broker, whose market color and investment calls I share on the irregular frequency with which he sends them.\nHis predictions don’t always prove prescient, but he has been more right than wrong, with a particularly impressive record of bold calls around market bottoms and ahead of corrections.\nAs noted in that first writeup in Barron’s in December 2009: “This particular guy is unique in at least two respects. He has no interest in having his name placed in print or pixels. And he is the one commentator I’m aware of who both turned aggressively bearish virtually at the all-time market peak in 2007, then in April began insisting that the March market lows would not be challenged, and that a new cyclical bull market had a long way to run.”\nThis broker’s dispatch to me in April 2009 — just weeks after the ultimate low of a wrenching 18-month bear market and terrifying global credit crisis — was a 12-page single-spaced argument that the financial crisis was over. This was far from the consensus at the time. A November 2007 piece had called for a brutal bear market, a month after the S&P 500 hit a peak it wouldn’t revisit until 2013 and before most investors even had a bear market on their radar.\nThe intention of airing his views was not to create some gimmick or generate cheap intrigue, but simply to offer the well-grounded thoughts of professional free of institutional constraints or the need to sell investment products.\nBut it did capture readers’ attention and imagination, to the point that requests for updates of the Mystery Broker’s market take come constantly. I continue it strictly because so many readers and viewers have followed his work for years and like to keep up\nAnd, yes, the whole exercise drives some people nuts, whether they think it’s irresponsible (which makes no sense, he gets no benefit and doesn’t hype small stocks that could move in his favor) or insist it’s a fictional alter ego (untrue).\nMystery Broker’s approach\nHe became a broker in the mid-’80s. While there’s long been a guessing game about MB’s identity, he is not someone who’s name anyone would know, he doesn’t otherwise comment publicly on investments.\nAs noted back in 2009: “He doesn’t claim any magic formulas or proprietary systems. His approach is eclectic and inclusive, ranging among economic, technical, historical, valuation and sentiment inputs.” He’ll cite Marty Zweig, Ned Davis and the Value Line Appreciation Potential indicators – fairly old-school inspirations – but doesn’t seem rigidly attached to any one model or style.\nI almost never solicit Mystery Broker’s take, preferring he check in only when it strikes him, often when he changes his market stance or is moved to reiterate his conviction in a prior call. Aside from the broad market commentary, he’ll sometimes make the case for or against individual stocks. He loved wells Fargo to start 2021, as well as GE, for instance.\nMystery Broker sometimes goes deep on a controversial emerging biotech name, the sort of thing I tend not to pass along. He was put off by CNBC’s heavy coverage of the “meme stocks” early this year and let me know it. He and I both have strong views on baseball, which we exchange via email. We’ve never met.\nHow he navigated the pandemic\nIn the past few months, Mystery Broker has been cautious on stocks and has missed a bit of upside. Specifically, he went to a sell (which tends to mean raising cash for clients and himself and hedging equity holdings with index puts) at the close on April 16, with the S&P 500 at 4185. The index went sideways for two months, then lifted to last week’s record up almost 5% from where he called for a correction.\nStill, he’s playing with a lot of house money, having been deftly bullish into the teeth of the March 2020 Covid crash. (He was negative on the market from January last year, though not because he expected either a pandemic or a crash).\nThe individual calls are viewable at the #MysteryBroker hashtag on Twitter, but to cite a few examples: He thought the March 4, 2020, low in the S&P 500 near 2900 would hold; it absolutely didn’t, plunging to about 2200 by the 23rd. But on March 26 he said the bottom was in, and within a month the S&P had recovered back to 2900.\nThen, this in mid-April 2020: He would normally look for a retest of the major low, but not then: ”“Because for the first time in stock market history the consensus is for a retest, a normal retest is not likely to happen.”\nThis was right, as was his preference for riskier cyclical stocks and his update June of last year: “We are in a new bull market...every correction should be bought...every time S&P 500 falls below its 50-day moving average is an extraordinary buying opportunity.”\nS&P 500 with 50-day moving averageFactSet\nAfter that and before predicting a correction three months ago that has yet to occur, he pegged the peak in FAANMG days before they topped last Sept. 1; said in late December the market had “entered the last hurrah for growth and speculative stocks” that would pressure the overall market but not necessarily drive across-the-board losses; and predicted bitcoin would peak coincident with the Coinbase listing (it did). Not perfect, but not bad.\nHis current outlook\nHis is not a system, but a weight-of-the-evidence approach pursued with an open mind and a feel for market cadences earned over more than three decades of economic cycles.\nFollowing up onhis latest update this week, I asked for a broader take on historical echoes and longer-term probabilities. Mystery Broker offers this:\n“I think the current recovery is most similar to the recovery in 2003-04. A big transition from hyper-growth to value. Also, valuations are already high after only one year of stock market and economic growth similar to 2003-4, although more extreme now. ” He expects “muted returns for the rest of decade similar to the low returns of the first decade of the 2000s. See leadership from industrials, healthcare and to some degree financials.”\n“Don’t expect technology to be a big outperformer and semiconductors will be a disappointment especially equipment semis that have benefitted from a few big trends over the last few years. Value, foreign stocks (expect dollar to fall over the next few years) and equal-weighted indices will outperform. Inflation and interest rates will slowly rise which is different from the last decade.\n“The big surprise will be how old industries adapt to new technology and fight off some of the hot new entries. There will be a lot of rebounds similar to how the New York Times came back from the dead last decade.”\nI also asked if he’s interested in being identified. The answer: not now, but maybe soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":163,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173306277,"gmtCreate":1626611186699,"gmtModify":1631885593750,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573691386745177","authorIdStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ monday might have 3 digit covid cases. The answer: not now, but maybe soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":163,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":810883858,"gmtCreate":1629962440574,"gmtModify":1631885195529,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ whenever an air travel bubble appear on the news. Earlier this week, the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee made its most significant hawkish shift yet, accelerating its timeline for hiking the Federal Funds rate to 2023 from 2024 and setting the table to end asset repurchases as soon as this year.
\n
The Central Bank left little doubt government's one-two monetary and fiscal punch has reinvigorated economic activity. Exiting the meeting, bankers believe gross domestic product, or GDP, willgrow 7%this year, up from its 6.5% forecast in March, resulting in core inflation of 3%, up from its prior outlook for 2.2%.
\n
Historically, the Federal Reserve has a reputation for under estimating inflationary pressure, forcing it to act more quickly and aggressively than it originally signals. Whether this means the Fed is behind the inflationary curve now is anyone's guess, but if it is, then we may see an even more hawkish tone over the coming year.
\n
For now, the Federal Reserve's stance has sparked a tug-of-war between those arguing rate hikes are too far off in the future to worry of a slowdown and those believing the Fed's timeline is still too optimistic. The knee-jerk reaction to its announcement was to buy speculative stocks, including technology, and sell mid-cycle stocks, such as energy. Further confusing the matter, late-cycle baskets, including healthcare and utilities, made the biggest move up in our large-cap sector ranking this week (see below), suggesting we may be closer to an economic reckoning than originally thought.
\n
The best sectors today
\n
Weekly, we rank 1,600 institutional-quality stocks across seven factors. In short, our scoring system incorporates earnings growth, earnings beats, insider buying, short- and long-term money flows, days to cover held short, trends in valuation, and seasonality.
\n
Once stocks run our gauntlet, we aggregate individual scores by sector to gain insight into the best baskets to over- or under-weight.
\n
Previously, I've written abouttechnology's relative weaknessin our ranking. The sector still scores below our average universe score, despite catching bids earlier this week. It will be interesting to see if this week's buying spree continues, helping technology climb our ranking, especially since technology doesn't normally score below average for long. For now, staying industry and stock specific in technology still appears to be the best bet.
\n
Source: Top Stocks for Tomorrow.
\n
We also break out our sector scores by market cap every week.
\n
Often, sectors move up or down in our large-cap ranking sooner than they do in mid cap or small cap; giving investors an early signal of shifting tides. For this reason, paying close attention to the large cap ranking can pay off even if you invest in smaller companies.
\n
This week, both healthcare and utilities moved up in our large-cap ranking. The improvement could reflect growing clarity into the groups because of the Supreme Court's decision to keep the Affordable Care Act in place and energy strains in Texas, California, and elsewhere, respectively. Perhaps, the move up in these baskets, which are relatively inelastic to economic activity, signals the first Fed Funds rate hike will happen in 2022, not 2023, though.
\n
Overall, REITs, healthcare, energy, utilities, and financials are top rated in large cap, while technology, consumer goods, and basics score below average. In mid cap, energy, REITs, utilities, and consumer goods are best, while technology, industrials, basics, and healthcare are low scoring. The top small cap sectors are REITs, energy, financials, and services and the lowest-scoring baskets are healthcare, technology, and basics. Focusing on stocks in top-scoring sectors and staying selective in low-scoring sectors could be the best way to find alpha from here.
\n
Source: Top Stocks for Tomorrow.
\n
The strongest scoring stocks to buy
\n
As I mentioned, we score stocks in our universe weekly, allowing us to rank them from best to worst by screening criteria, such as market cap and sector. For example, the following stock ideas come from our weekly report highlighting the highest-scoring stocks in our universe by sector, regardless of market cap.
\n
Over 200 stocks made the cut for this report, including the following nine stocks.
\n
First up, investors ought to think about pharmaceutical stocks given large-cap healthcare is improving in our sector work. Over 20 healthcare stocks made our best stocks list this week, including AbbVie(NYSE:ABBV)and Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY).
\n
In the U.S., AbbVie faces-off against generic versions of its mega-blockbuster immunology drug, Humira, in 2023, but up-and-coming top sellers, including Rinvoq and Skyrizi, should helpinsulate it against a drop-off in sales. Botox also provides a nice revenue tailwind because aesthetics demand isalready above pre-COVID levelsthanks to post-vaccination doctor visits. Moonshot-style data is coming soon, too, with trial results in Alzheimer's anticipated this summer and pivotal results from Vraylar's major depressive disorder trials later this year. Finally, since it's paying down debt and still guiding for high single-digit sales growth from 2025 to 2029, despite Humira's loss of exclusivity, its 4.5% dividend appears to be on solid ground.
\n
Improving post-vaccination trends may make it time to watch Bristol-Myers, too. It's heavily exposed to cancer indications through it's top-selling Opdivo and Yervoy, and earlier this month, managementsaidCOVID-era, double-digit declines in new patient starts for oncology drugs improved to a 5% to 10% decline. If trends continue improving, then oncology drug demand could be back to a pre-COVID levels soon. Similarly, rebounding doctor visits also support sales of Bristol-Myers' Eliquis, a blockbuster oral anticoagulant used in cardiovascular disease.
\n
Outside of healthcare, energy stocks could make sense given increasing global GDP and inflation forecasts. Oil stocks sold off following the Fed's update last week, however, measured production growth should help keep per barrel prices high at E&P companies, including Hess Corp (HES), while also providing demand tailwinds for services providers, including Oceaneering International (OII).
\n
Hess Corp'scollaborationoffshore Guyana with Exxon Mobil (XOM) gives it 30% exposure to over 9 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Stabroek Block, and reserves are climbing thanks to new discoveries. Its breakeven cost in the play ranges from $25 to $35 per barrel of Brent Crude, so with current prices above $70, new production coming online could help boost earnings nicely over the next few years.
\n
Anoffshore energy projectsplayer, Oceaneering Int'l could see demand for its remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs), subsea project management, and manufactured products, such as umbilicals, increase nicely if offshore activity picks up because of higher per barrel prices. In Q1, ROV fleet utilization was just 53%, yet day rates improved 7% quarter over quarter, and for the full year, management expects fleet utilization to be in thehigh 50%range. With a project in Angola supported project management revenue this year, a potential uptick in book-to-bill for manufactured products, and increasing ROV utilization, it could still be early innings for the company's turnaround.
\n
There are plenty of ideas outside healthcare and energy, too. Earlier this week, the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee made its most significant hawkish shift yet, accelerating its timeline for hiking the Federal Funds rate to 2023 from 2024 and setting the table to end asset repurchases as soon as this year.\nThe Central Bank left little doubt government's one-two monetary and fiscal punch has reinvigorated economic activity. Exiting the meeting, bankers believe gross domestic product, or GDP, willgrow 7%this year, up from its 6.5% forecast in March, resulting in core inflation of 3%, up from its prior outlook for 2.2%.\nHistorically, the Federal Reserve has a reputation for under estimating inflationary pressure, forcing it to act more quickly and aggressively than it originally signals. Whether this means the Fed is behind the inflationary curve now is anyone's guess, but if it is, then we may see an even more hawkish tone over the coming year.\nFor now, the Federal Reserve's stance has sparked a tug-of-war between those arguing rate hikes are too far off in the future to worry of a slowdown and those believing the Fed's timeline is still too optimistic. The knee-jerk reaction to its announcement was to buy speculative stocks, including technology, and sell mid-cycle stocks, such as energy. Further confusing the matter, late-cycle baskets, including healthcare and utilities, made the biggest move up in our large-cap sector ranking this week (see below), suggesting we may be closer to an economic reckoning than originally thought.\nThe best sectors today\nWeekly, we rank 1,600 institutional-quality stocks across seven factors. In short, our scoring system incorporates earnings growth, earnings beats, insider buying, short- and long-term money flows, days to cover held short, trends in valuation, and seasonality.\nOnce stocks run our gauntlet, we aggregate individual scores by sector to gain insight into the best baskets to over- or under-weight.\nPreviously, I've written abouttechnology's relative weaknessin our ranking. The sector still scores below our average universe score, despite catching bids earlier this week. It will be interesting to see if this week's buying spree continues, helping technology climb our ranking, especially since technology doesn't normally score below average for long. For now, staying industry and stock specific in technology still appears to be the best bet.\nSource: Top Stocks for Tomorrow.\nWe also break out our sector scores by market cap every week.\nOften, sectors move up or down in our large-cap ranking sooner than they do in mid cap or small cap; giving investors an early signal of shifting tides. For this reason, paying close attention to the large cap ranking can pay off even if you invest in smaller companies.\nThis week, both healthcare and utilities moved up in our large-cap ranking. The improvement could reflect growing clarity into the groups because of the Supreme Court's decision to keep the Affordable Care Act in place and energy strains in Texas, California, and elsewhere, respectively. Perhaps, the move up in these baskets, which are relatively inelastic to economic activity, signals the first Fed Funds rate hike will happen in 2022, not 2023, though.\nOverall, REITs, healthcare, energy, utilities, and financials are top rated in large cap, while technology, consumer goods, and basics score below average. In mid cap, energy, REITs, utilities, and consumer goods are best, while technology, industrials, basics, and healthcare are low scoring. The top small cap sectors are REITs, energy, financials, and services and the lowest-scoring baskets are healthcare, technology, and basics. Focusing on stocks in top-scoring sectors and staying selective in low-scoring sectors could be the best way to find alpha from here.\nSource: Top Stocks for Tomorrow.\nThe strongest scoring stocks to buy\nAs I mentioned, we score stocks in our universe weekly, allowing us to rank them from best to worst by screening criteria, such as market cap and sector. For example, the following stock ideas come from our weekly report highlighting the highest-scoring stocks in our universe by sector, regardless of market cap.\nOver 200 stocks made the cut for this report, including the following nine stocks.\nFirst up, investors ought to think about pharmaceutical stocks given large-cap healthcare is improving in our sector work. Over 20 healthcare stocks made our best stocks list this week, including AbbVie(NYSE:ABBV)and Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY).\nIn the U.S., AbbVie faces-off against generic versions of its mega-blockbuster immunology drug, Humira, in 2023, but up-and-coming top sellers, including Rinvoq and Skyrizi, should helpinsulate it against a drop-off in sales. Finally, since it's paying down debt and still guiding for high single-digit sales growth from 2025 to 2029, despite Humira's loss of exclusivity, its 4.5% dividend appears to be on solid ground.\nImproving post-vaccination trends may make it time to watch Bristol-Myers, too. Similarly, rebounding doctor visits also support sales of Bristol-Myers' Eliquis, a blockbuster oral anticoagulant used in cardiovascular disease.\nOutside of healthcare, energy stocks could make sense given increasing global GDP and inflation forecasts. Oil stocks sold off following the Fed's update last week, however, measured production growth should help keep per barrel prices high at E&P companies, including Hess Corp (HES), while also providing demand tailwinds for services providers, including Oceaneering International (OII).\nHess Corp'scollaborationoffshore Guyana with Exxon Mobil (XOM) gives it 30% exposure to over 9 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Stabroek Block, and reserves are climbing thanks to new discoveries. Its breakeven cost in the play ranges from $25 to $35 per barrel of Brent Crude, so with current prices above $70, new production coming online could help boost earnings nicely over the next few years.\nAnoffshore energy projectsplayer, Oceaneering Int'l could see demand for its remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs), subsea project management, and manufactured products, such as umbilicals, increase nicely if offshore activity picks up because of higher per barrel prices. In Q1, ROV fleet utilization was just 53%, yet day rates improved 7% quarter over quarter, and for the full year, management expects fleet utilization to be in thehigh 50%range. With a project in Angola supported project management revenue this year, a potential uptick in book-to-bill for manufactured products, and increasing ROV utilization, it could still be early innings for the company's turnaround.\nThere are plenty of ideas outside healthcare and energy, too. For example, nearly 50 technology stocks made our best list, despite the sector scoring below average in our sector ranking, including Microsoft (MSFT) and Shopify (SHOP), which benefit from increasing data in the cloud and e-commerce tailwinds, respectively. Amazon.com (AMZN) is also top-scoring, benefiting from growing e-commerce share of total retail sales and Prime Day, which could add over $10 billion in revenue this year, based on2020's performance.\nOur best list also includes a slate of services stocks, including Stitch Fix (SFIX) and Revolve Group (RVLV). As younger workers refresh wardrobes because post-vaccination, return to office trends, those companies could see a healthy uptake in sales.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":802495027,"gmtCreate":1627793526569,"gmtModify":1631885592752,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Everywhere are hit by Delta variantStandby for the price to drop Buy below 4.8","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Everywhere are hit by Delta variantStandby for the price to drop Buy below 4.8","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Everywhere are hit by Delta variantStandby for the price to drop Buy below 4.8","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/802495027","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":192,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162001681,"gmtCreate":1624026739743,"gmtModify":1634023889281,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [呆住] ","listText":"[财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [呆住] ","text":"[财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [财迷] [呆住]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/162001681","repostId":"1111305468","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1111305468","pubTimestamp":1624025497,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1111305468?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 22:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Investors Leap at Chance to Double Their Money in 1,387 Years","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1111305468","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Want to know how sensitive investors are to tiny differences in interest rates? Look at what happened after the Federal Reserve decided June 16 to raise the rate it pays on its overnight reverse repurchase facility to 0.05% from 0.00%. You’d need 1,387 years to double your money at that puny rate. Still, it was enough to draw in $756 billion in funds on June 17, a 45% increase from when the Fed was paying a flat zero.
\n
That’s “just another affirmation of the glut of cash seeking any positive return,” Jonathan Cohn, a strategist at Credit Suisse Group AG, told Bloomberg.
\n
The massive flows of short-term money are mostly invisible to the general public, but they’re vital to big players such as money market mutual funds and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two giant companies in government conservatorship whose purchases of mortgage loans affect rates for homebuyers. Fannie, Freddie, and the money funds are believed to be among the big players that poured their spare cash into the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility—a kind of overnight parking lot for money—on June 17.
\n
There are differences of opinion over whether the Fed’s rate increase was necessary or wise. Zoltan Pozsar, the global head of short-term interest rate strategy for Credit Suisse, says the hike—as small as it might seem to a layperson—was too big. “I was arguing that there is no need to adjust anything,” Pozsar says. For the big players that are taking advantage of the Fed’s facility, he says, “It’s like Christmastime in the middle of summer.”
\n
Pozsar argues that the previous rate of zero was high enough because it ensured that the federal funds rate would not fall below the Fed’s target range of zero to 0.25%: Presumably no bank would lend federal funds at less than zero if it could earn zero by stashing money at the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility. Raising the overnight reverse repurchase rate to 0.05%, Pozsar says, makes it too much of a lure for money. “They basically turned an innocent facility that was serving as a floor to something more menacing that’s sucking money out of the system,” he says.
\n
Not everyone sees things that way. The rate hike certainly made life easier for money funds, which strive not to “break the buck”—that is, give investors back less money than they put in. It was hard to meet that commitment when the funds were earning zero and had to cover salaries and other expenses.
\n
The fear that the Fed’s facility will suck too much money out of the banking system (which Iwrote aboutlast week) is theoretical for now because banks are actually trying to shed deposits for various reasons, including regulations that make it costly for them to take in deposits and stash the money in Treasury securities or reserves at the Fed. If banks did decide they were losing too much in deposits to the Fed, they could simply raise deposit rates and pull the money back.
\n
Lorie Logan, an executive vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who runs the bank’s trading desk, said in an April 15speechthat fears that the overnight reverse repurchase facility would suck too much money from the financial system “have not materialized in the intervening years, even through various periods of market stress.”
\n
Meanwhile, anyone stashing $1 billion in the facility can look forward to taking out $2 billion—in the year 3,408.
","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Investors Leap at Chance to Double Their Money in 1,387 Years
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nInvestors Leap at Chance to Double Their Money in 1,387 Years\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-18 22:11 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Want to know how sensitive investors are to tiny differences in interest rates? If banks did decide they were losing too much in deposits to the Fed, they could simply raise deposit rates and pull the money back.\nLorie Logan, an executive vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who runs the bank’s trading desk, said in an April 15speechthat fears that the overnight reverse repurchase facility would suck too much money from the financial system “have not materialized in the intervening years, even through various periods of market stress.”\nMeanwhile, anyone stashing $1 billion in the facility can look forward to taking out $2 billion—in the year 3,408.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":406,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":838903012,"gmtCreate":1629362134136,"gmtModify":1631885195855,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ wait for 4.8","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ wait for 4.8","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ wait for 4.8","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/838903012","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":772,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173306277,"gmtCreate":1626611186699,"gmtModify":1631885593750,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$ monday might have 3 digit covid cases. That's a 29% premium to Morrisons' (MRWSF) closing price on Friday, giving it a market value of around £5.5 billion ($7.6 billion).
\n
Shares in the company surged more than 30% in London on Monday, taking the share price above the takeover offer and lifting other stocks in the sector. Sainsbury's (JSNSF) and Ocado (OCDDY) climbed over 4%, with Marks & Spencer (MAKSY) rising nearly 3% and Tesco (TSCDF) up more than 1%.
\n
Morrisons rejected the proposal in its statement on Saturday, saying that it \"significantly undervalued\" the company and its future prospects. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice now has until July 17 to make a firm offer.
\n
The move comes amid heightened investor activity in UK retail and a spate of takeover bids for British companies, undervalued for years because of poor returns linked to drab growth and a weak pound following the Brexit referendum of 2016.
\n
In October, Walmart (WMT) sold supermarket chain Asda to European private equity group TDR Capital and the founders of a global convenience store business. Separately, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky recently increased his stake in Sainsbury's to 10%, adding to speculation that it could be the next takeover target.
\n
Analysts are speculating that Tesco, Britain's biggest supermarket chain, might also attract a buyer.
\n
\"The volume of liquidity, reflecting monetary policy, and the uptake of capital by family offices, high net worth investors and private equity, means that even Tesco, with its £18 billion ($25 billion) market capitalization, is not too big to be subject to an offer,\" Clive Black, head of research at Shore Capital said in a note on Monday.
\n
Sainsbury's and Tesco, which benefited from a surge in demand during lockdowns, are now poised to benefit from a strong economic recovery in Britain following the pandemic. Analysts say shoppers are likely to continue eating more meals at home even with restaurants reopening, particularly as many offices remain closed.
\n
Tesco CEO Ken Murphy told analysts on a call on Friday that online demand has been \"incredibly resilient even with the easing of restrictions.\"
\n
\"We expect sales to remain well above pre Covid-19 level through the remainder of the year,\" he added.
\n
Both leading retailers have also managed to keep costs under control, are generating large amounts of cash and have narrowed price gaps with German discounters Aldi and Lidl, according to Shore Capital's Black.
\n
This could make them prime targets for the likes of Amazon (AMZN), he added. \"The Asda bid and the Kretinsky investment means that the topic of Amazon's plans will also be one of ongoing discussion around Sainsbury and Tesco,\" Black said.
\n
The online retailer, which has been expanding its grocery offering since buying Whole Foods in 2017, already has a close relationship with Morrisons, which supplies its Prime and Pantry customers in the United Kingdom with dry, fresh and frozen products.
\n
But the market is not betting on a rival bid from Amazon. \"There is no indication in the [Morrisons] share price today that Amazon will come in and outbid Clayton, Dubilier & Rice,\" said Russ Mould, investment director at stockbroker AJ Bell.
\n
With a languishing share price and over £7 billion ($9.7 billion) in assets, including a real estate portfolio worth more than the company's market value, Morrisons \"ticks a lot of private equity boxes,\" he told CNN Business.
\n
Returning to favor?
\n
Investor interest in UK assets extends beyond grocers. There have been over 50 bids for UK-listed companies in the last eight months, only six of which have since been abandoned, according to Mould.
\n
The average premium offered has been 34%, indicating that many of these companies may be undervalued by the market following years of weak shareholder returns. Over the last 12 months, there have been 95 announced offers for UK-listed companies with a combined value of $107 billion, according to Dealogic data.
\n
\"The UK has consistently underperformed on the global stage since June 2016's Brexit vote and sterling has failed to regain the levels at which it traded before Britain decide to leave the EU,\" Mould said in a recent note. \"That rotten effort may mean that UK stocks are unloved and therefore potentially undervalued,\" he added.
\n
UK and European stock market indexes stand to benefit from the post-pandemic recovery, given the high representation of companies such as automakers and banks that perform well when the economy is on the upswing.
\n
They may also offer better value for investors following much more robust gains in US indexes over the past decade, when European markets have been held back by a dearth of tech companies and lackluster economic growth in the region.
\n
The FTSE 100 (UKX) has climbed just 26% over the past decade, while Europe's STOXX 600 (SXXL) is up 85%. Over the last 12 months, there have been 95 announced offers for UK-listed companies with a combined value of $107 billion, according to Dealogic data.\n\"The UK has consistently underperformed on the global stage since June 2016's Brexit vote and sterling has failed to regain the levels at which it traded before Britain decide to leave the EU,\" Mould said in a recent note. \"That rotten effort may mean that UK stocks are unloved and therefore potentially undervalued,\" he added.\nUK and European stock market indexes stand to benefit from the post-pandemic recovery, given the high representation of companies such as automakers and banks that perform well when the economy is on the upswing.\nThey may also offer better value for investors following much more robust gains in US indexes over the past decade, when European markets have been held back by a dearth of tech companies and lackluster economic growth in the region.\nThe FTSE 100 (UKX) has climbed just 26% over the past decade, while Europe's STOXX 600 (SXXL) is up 85%. That compares with a gain of more than 230% for the S&P 500 (SPX).","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":21,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167551537,"gmtCreate":1624279016329,"gmtModify":1631886372428,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Nano Dimension(NNDM)$加油","listText":"$Nano Dimension(NNDM)$加油","text":"$Nano Dimension(NNDM)$加油","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5bd5a3cee18239e3f61162d03016f303","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/167551537","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":470,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":165777220,"gmtCreate":1624159691660,"gmtModify":1634010043318,"author":{"id":"3573691386745177","authorId":"3573691386745177","name":"ushouldknow","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573691386745177","idStr":"3573691386745177"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Money money money [财迷] [财迷] [财迷] ","listText":"Money money money [财迷] [财迷] [财迷] ","text":"Money money money [财迷] [财迷] [财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/165777220","repostId":"1199331995","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1199331995","pubTimestamp":1624065374,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1199331995?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-19 09:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. IPO Week Ahead: Billion-Dollar Deals Come To Market In A 12 IPO Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1199331995","media":"Renaissance","summary":"12 IPOs are scheduled to raise $5.6 billion in the week ahead led by two billion-dollar deals.Chinese freight platform Full Truck Alliance plans to raise $1.5 billion at a $19.7 billion market cap.
