Consumers spent $120 billion on electric car purchases in 2020, up 50% from 2019.
\n
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
\n
With at least 18 of the 20 largest automakers in the world increasing investments in electric cars, the electric vehicle industry has exponential growth potential. Ford Motor Company, for example, recently scaled up its electrification spending budget through 2025 to $30 billion, up from $22.5 billion it outlined earlier this year. Hyundai Motor recently said it plans to go all-electric in its commercial vehicles as early as 2028.
\n
If you haven't dipped your fingers in EV stocks, you're not too late. Among the many players out there that are only growing in number by the day, here are three electric-vehicle stocks to buy and hold for at least the next decade.
\n
The smartest way to bet on the world's largest electric vehicle market
\n
By launching an electric version of its hot-selling F-150 pickup, which already seeing strong buyer interest, Ford has upped its electric game in the U.S. like none other.
\n
Yet the U.S. isn't the fastest-growing EV market yet, so if you want to exploit global electric vehicle opportunities, look no further than Nio (NYSE:NIO), dubbed the \"Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) of China.\"
\n

\n
\n
China is the world's largest electric vehicle market in every way: As per data from the IEA, China's fleet of 4.5 million electric cars in 2020 was the largest in the world, it had the highest number of models available and the strongest charging infrastructure, and also dominated the commercial electric vehicle market.
\n
And Nio is going full throttle to become the market leader in China: In April, it corned 23% of China's all-electric SUV market, beating Tesla's 17% market share despite Tesla's Model Y grossing the highest sales in terms of units. Two among three of Nio's models, the ES6 and the EC6 came in second and third, respectively.
\n
Nio isn't resting on its laurels and wants to give Tesla a run for its money by targeting the masses -- it will launch models under a new mass-market brand next year to compete with more affordable EVs lined up by Volkswagen's Audi and Toyota's Lexus. It's a big growth leap and could catapult Nio to new heights if can exploit its brand loyalty. Nio's branding efforts go beyond cars -- Nio owners can buy branded products and even experience company-owned coffee houses and co-working spaces.
\n
Most importantly, Nio's battery-as-a-service subscription is a solid competitive advantage as it gives buyers the option to buy cars without batteries for substantially lower costs and instead rent and swap batteries as and when required.
\n
With Nio's orders hitting a record high in August and deliveries of its fourth model -- the mid-size sedan ET7 -- to start by early 2022, this is one of the best Chinese electric vehicle stocks you could buy right now.
\n
This EV battery beast is also a Dividend Aristocrat
\n
Whether it's Ford, Nio or any other EV manufacturer, they all require lithium-ion batteries to power their cars. Albemarle (NYSE:ALB) is one of the world's largest lithium mining companies, and was in fact the world's largest supplier of battery-grade lithium for electric vehicles in 2020.
\n
Albemarle recognized the EV market's potential early in the game when it acquired lithium giant Rockwood Holdings in 2015. In 2019, Albemarle struck a joint venture with Australia-based company Mineral Resources and acquired a 60% stake in its Wodgina mine. Wodgina has the world's largest hard rock lithium deposits.
\n
Not surprisingly, Albemarle is growing exponentially. It expects net sales to nearly double by 2026 from expected 2021 levels of $3.2 billion to $3.3 billion, and foresees adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margins of 43% to 47% by 2026. This same company was projecting 2025 EBITDA margin of 32% to 34% in 2019.
\n
Albemarle is also expanding aggressively outside the U.S. and targeting 40% to 45% revenue from China and 30% to 35% from rest of Asia by 2026. For perspective, China is expected to bring in just about 25% of its revenue in 2021.
\n
Those are some eye-popping growth numbers, and when you also consider that Albemarle is a rare EV Dividend Aristocrat with a 27-year streak of consecutive dividend increases, you know you have found a long-term winning stock.
\n
This new EV stock on the block is addressing the biggest EV problem
\n
As exciting as the future of electric cars sounds, their advent comes at a huge environmental cost: Lithium-ion batteries have a limited lifespan and therefore have to be replaced, giving rise to a global challenge. Enter Li-Cycle Holdings (NYSE:LICY), North America's largest battery recycler, founded in 2016.
\n
Li-Cycle operates a two-stage Spoke-and-Hub recycling model: It breaks down batteries at spokes and recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from them at Hubs to send the recovered material back to battery producers. Consumers spent $120 billion on electric car purchases in 2020, up 50% from 2019.\nThis is just the tip of the iceberg.\nWith at least 18 of the 20 largest automakers in the world increasing investments in electric cars, the electric vehicle industry has exponential growth potential. Ford Motor Company, for example, recently scaled up its electrification spending budget through 2025 to $30 billion, up from $22.5 billion it outlined earlier this year. Hyundai Motor recently said it plans to go all-electric in its commercial vehicles as early as 2028.\nIf you haven't dipped your fingers in EV stocks, you're not too late. Among the many players out there that are only growing in number by the day, here are three electric-vehicle stocks to buy and hold for at least the next decade.\nThe smartest way to bet on the world's largest electric vehicle market\nBy launching an electric version of its hot-selling F-150 pickup, which already seeing strong buyer interest, Ford has upped its electric game in the U.S. like none other.\nYet the U.S. isn't the fastest-growing EV market yet, so if you want to exploit global electric vehicle opportunities, look no further than Nio (NYSE:NIO), dubbed the \"Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) of China.\"\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nChina is the world's largest electric vehicle market in every way: As per data from the IEA, China's fleet of 4.5 million electric cars in 2020 was the largest in the world, it had the highest number of models available and the strongest charging infrastructure, and also dominated the commercial electric vehicle market.\nAnd Nio is going full throttle to become the market leader in China: In April, it corned 23% of China's all-electric SUV market, beating Tesla's 17% market share despite Tesla's Model Y grossing the highest sales in terms of units. Two among three of Nio's models, the ES6 and the EC6 came in second and third, respectively.\nNio isn't resting on its laurels and wants to give Tesla a run for its money by targeting the masses -- it will launch models under a new mass-market brand next year to compete with more affordable EVs lined up by Volkswagen's Audi and Toyota's Lexus. It's a big growth leap and could catapult Nio to new heights if can exploit its brand loyalty. Nio's branding efforts go beyond cars -- Nio owners can buy branded products and even experience company-owned coffee houses and co-working spaces.\nMost importantly, Nio's battery-as-a-service subscription is a solid competitive advantage as it gives buyers the option to buy cars without batteries for substantially lower costs and instead rent and swap batteries as and when required.\nWith Nio's orders hitting a record high in August and deliveries of its fourth model -- the mid-size sedan ET7 -- to start by early 2022, this is one of the best Chinese electric vehicle stocks you could buy right now.\nThis EV battery beast is also a Dividend Aristocrat\nWhether it's Ford, Nio or any other EV manufacturer, they all require lithium-ion batteries to power their cars. Albemarle (NYSE:ALB) is one of the world's largest lithium mining companies, and was in fact the world's largest supplier of battery-grade lithium for electric vehicles in 2020.\nAlbemarle recognized the EV market's potential early in the game when it acquired lithium giant Rockwood Holdings in 2015. In 2019, Albemarle struck a joint venture with Australia-based company Mineral Resources and acquired a 60% stake in its Wodgina mine. Wodgina has the world's largest hard rock lithium deposits.\nNot surprisingly, Albemarle is growing exponentially. It expects net sales to nearly double by 2026 from expected 2021 levels of $3.2 billion to $3.3 billion, and foresees adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margins of 43% to 47% by 2026. This same company was projecting 2025 EBITDA margin of 32% to 34% in 2019.\nAlbemarle is also expanding aggressively outside the U.S. and targeting 40% to 45% revenue from China and 30% to 35% from rest of Asia by 2026. For perspective, China is expected to bring in just about 25% of its revenue in 2021.\nThose are some eye-popping growth numbers, and when you also consider that Albemarle is a rare EV Dividend Aristocrat with a 27-year streak of consecutive dividend increases, you know you have found a long-term winning stock.\nThis new EV stock on the block is addressing the biggest EV problem\nAs exciting as the future of electric cars sounds, their advent comes at a huge environmental cost: Lithium-ion batteries have a limited lifespan and therefore have to be replaced, giving rise to a global challenge. Enter Li-Cycle Holdings (NYSE:LICY), North America's largest battery recycler, founded in 2016.\nLi-Cycle operates a two-stage Spoke-and-Hub recycling model: It breaks down batteries at spokes and recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from them at Hubs to send the recovered material back to battery producers. Here's where the company stands now in terms of operations:\n\nIt commissioned its first Spoke facility in Ontario in 2017.\nIt opened a second one in Rochester, New York, in 2020.\nIts third Spoke facility in Arizona is expected to start early next year. It'll have an annual recycling capacity of 10,000 tons of lithium-ion batteries, double the capacity at each of its other two Spokes.\nIts first revenue-generating Hub in Rochester should be operational by 2023.\n\nDemand is so high that Li-Cycle has already planned a fourth Spoke in Alabama. By 2025, it expects to process 100,000 tons per year at Spokes and 220,000 tons to 240,000 tons per year at its Hub.\nIn the last quarter, Li-Cycle onboarded 14 new battery-supply customers, taking its total customer count to 70. Its revenue shot up 840% year over year to $1.7 million.\nRemember though, Li-Cycle is an early-stage, loss-making company that's already commanding a market capitalization of $1.8 billion. Yet that's how growth stocks behave, and if its growing customer and asset base is anything to go by, Li-Cycle could be a multibagger EV stock in the making for those who get in early.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":65,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":132911333,"gmtCreate":1622063629622,"gmtModify":1634184303756,"author":{"id":"3572706233880336","authorId":"3572706233880336","name":"MOUNTAINS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1a8893d9b4e75d6d905c1675c89231af","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$[财迷] [财迷] ","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$[财迷] [财迷] ","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$[财迷] [财迷]","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4185eac39ad4d0562616f823db7fba3d","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/132911333","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":437,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":841554789,"gmtCreate":1635928248613,"gmtModify":1635928248748,"author":{"id":"3572706233880336","authorId":"3572706233880336","name":"MOUNTAINS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1a8893d9b4e75d6d905c1675c89231af","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Opendoor Technologies Inc(OPEN)$ please don't close the door again. Tesla managed aGAAPnet income of $438 million in the first quarter, up from just $16 million one-year prior. It would appear, at least at first glance, that the electric-vehicle (EV) pioneer is on the right track in terms of profitability.
\n
The problem is that these profits aren't really coming from the cars that Tesla sells. The company currently generates hundreds of millions of dollars in pure profit each quarter from the sale of regulatory credits, a side effect of other automakers not making enough zero-emission vehicles to meet regulatory requirements.
\n
Regulatory credit sales totaled $518 million in the first quarter, accounting for all of Tesla's profit and then some. This has been the case in previous quarters, as well. In fact, after backing out regulatory credits from Tesla's net income, the company has been unprofitable for six-straight quarters.
\n
Tesla's bottom line got an additional boost in the first quarter from a gain onthe sale ofBitcointo the tune of $101 million, which showed up as a reduction in costs. The picture doesn't look so rosy when both regulatory credits and Bitcoin gains are excluded:
\n

\n
DATA SOURCE: TESLA. CHART BY AUTHOR.
\n
There's no question that Tesla's growth is impressive, but there's also no question that the core business of making and selling cars is not turning a profit. The question Tesla investors need to ask themselves is: If Tesla isn't profitable now, when there's little to no competition in electric vehicles in the United States, what's going to happen when a deluge of competition fromtraditional automakersarrives?
\n
A ton of competition is coming
\n
Tesla's brand has a cult following, so some people will be buying Tesla vehicles regardless of the other options available. But that's not likely to be the case for most people.
\n
The number of electric vehicles available for purchase in the U.S. is set to explode in the coming years.General Motors(NYSE:GM)is planning to launch 30 EVs globally by 2025, with two-thirds set to be sold in North America. The company is aiming to sell 1 million EVs annually in North America by 2025.
\n
Those models include electric versions of the company's GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Tesla has a loyal customer base, but so does GM. Someone who's been a GM truck buyer for years is likely to stick with GM when they decide to switch to an electric vehicle.
\n

\n
\n
Ford(NYSE:F)is also pouring resources into electric vehicles, allocating $29 billion for electric and autonomous vehicles through 2025. The company's plans include anelectric version of its F-150 pickup truck, which should hit the production lines by mid-2022. Given GM's and Ford's plans, it will not be easy for Tesla to steal away market share in the lucrative pickup-truck segment.
\n
Other car companies have big plans, as well.Volkswagen(OTC:VWAGY)already sells over 200,000 EVs annually andexpects that number to double this year. The company is aiming to sell roughly 2 million EVs annually by 2025 and expects to launch 70 EV models by 2030.Toyota(NYSE:TM)willlaunch 15 new electric vehicles by 2025, some of which will be under the new Toyota bZ sub-brand. The list goes on.
\n
Not only will all these electric vehicles provide consumers with a bevy of options beyond Tesla, but they'll also deprive Tesla of its regulatory-credit income as other automakers churn out an increasing number of EVs.
\n
None of this is to say that Tesla can't be successful in a world where it faces more competition. But turning a profit is is going to get harder with each passing year.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
1 Question Tesla Investors Need to Ask Themselves
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n1 Question Tesla Investors Need to Ask Themselves\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-04-30 23:13 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Electric-car companyTesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)has now produced a profit for seven consecutive quarters. Look at what happene","content":"
Want to know how sensitive investors are to tiny differences in interest rates? Look at what happened after the Federal Reserve decided June 16 to raise the rate it pays on its overnight reverse repurchase facility to 0.05% from 0.00%. You’d need 1,387 years to double your money at that puny rate. Still, it was enough to draw in $756 billion in funds on June 17, a 45% increase from when the Fed was paying a flat zero.
\n
That’s “just another affirmation of the glut of cash seeking any positive return,” Jonathan Cohn, a strategist at Credit Suisse Group AG, told Bloomberg.
\n
The massive flows of short-term money are mostly invisible to the general public, but they’re vital to big players such as money market mutual funds and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two giant companies in government conservatorship whose purchases of mortgage loans affect rates for homebuyers. Fannie, Freddie, and the money funds are believed to be among the big players that poured their spare cash into the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility—a kind of overnight parking lot for money—on June 17.
\n
There are differences of opinion over whether the Fed’s rate increase was necessary or wise. Zoltan Pozsar, the global head of short-term interest rate strategy for Credit Suisse, says the hike—as small as it might seem to a layperson—was too big. “I was arguing that there is no need to adjust anything,” Pozsar says. For the big players that are taking advantage of the Fed’s facility, he says, “It’s like Christmastime in the middle of summer.”
\n
Pozsar argues that the previous rate of zero was high enough because it ensured that the federal funds rate would not fall below the Fed’s target range of zero to 0.25%: Presumably no bank would lend federal funds at less than zero if it could earn zero by stashing money at the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility. Raising the overnight reverse repurchase rate to 0.05%, Pozsar says, makes it too much of a lure for money. “They basically turned an innocent facility that was serving as a floor to something more menacing that’s sucking money out of the system,” he says.
\n
Not everyone sees things that way. Look at what happened after the Federal Reserve decided June 16 to raise the rate it pays on its overnight reverse repurchase facility to 0.05% from 0.00%. You’d need 1,387 years to double your money at that puny rate. Still, it was enough to draw in $756 billion in funds on June 17, a 45% increase from when the Fed was paying a flat zero.\nThat’s “just another affirmation of the glut of cash seeking any positive return,” Jonathan Cohn, a strategist at Credit Suisse Group AG, told Bloomberg.\nThe massive flows of short-term money are mostly invisible to the general public, but they’re vital to big players such as money market mutual funds and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two giant companies in government conservatorship whose purchases of mortgage loans affect rates for homebuyers. Fannie, Freddie, and the money funds are believed to be among the big players that poured their spare cash into the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility—a kind of overnight parking lot for money—on June 17.\nThere are differences of opinion over whether the Fed’s rate increase was necessary or wise. Zoltan Pozsar, the global head of short-term interest rate strategy for Credit Suisse, says the hike—as small as it might seem to a layperson—was too big. “I was arguing that there is no need to adjust anything,” Pozsar says. For the big players that are taking advantage of the Fed’s facility, he says, “It’s like Christmastime in the middle of summer.”\nPozsar argues that the previous rate of zero was high enough because it ensured that the federal funds rate would not fall below the Fed’s target range of zero to 0.25%: Presumably no bank would lend federal funds at less than zero if it could earn zero by stashing money at the Fed’s reverse repurchase facility. Raising the overnight reverse repurchase rate to 0.05%, Pozsar says, makes it too much of a lure for money. “They basically turned an innocent facility that was serving as a floor to something more menacing that’s sucking money out of the system,” he says.\nNot everyone sees things that way. The rate hike certainly made life easier for money funds, which strive not to “break the buck”—that is, give investors back less money than they put in. It was hard to meet that commitment when the funds were earning zero and had to cover salaries and other expenses.\nThe fear that the Fed’s facility will suck too much money out of the banking system (which Iwrote aboutlast week) is theoretical for now because banks are actually trying to shed deposits for various reasons, including regulations that make it costly for them to take in deposits and stash the money in Treasury securities or reserves at the Fed. If banks did decide they were losing too much in deposits to the Fed, they could simply raise deposit rates and pull the money back.\nLorie Logan, an executive vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who runs the bank’s trading desk, said in an April 15speechthat fears that the overnight reverse repurchase facility would suck too much money from the financial system “have not materialized in the intervening years, even through various periods of market stress.”\nMeanwhile, anyone stashing $1 billion in the facility can look forward to taking out $2 billion—in the year 3,408.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":26,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
