Oversold.. panic selling after earning reports.. With the μ-variant and perhaps more variants to come, Zoom will still be in high demand. It’ll eventually be a norm for many businesses/organisations.

Five9 shareholders will receive 0.5533 shares of Zoom stock for every share of Five9 stock they own.\nInvestors should look to see if management says the timeline for the deal to close is still the first half of calendar 2022. It would be nice to see this anticipated timeline narrow to the first quarter of 2022. In addition, investors should look for more insight from management about the tech company's plans to integrate Five9 and to build out more enterprise features.\nZoom will report its second-quarter results after market close on Monday, Aug. 30.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":129,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":894112089,"gmtCreate":1628811319241,"gmtModify":1633689367214,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice!","listText":"Nice!","text":"Nice!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/894112089","repostId":"1186962819","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1186962819","pubTimestamp":1628809269,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1186962819?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-13 07:01","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Disney jumps over 5% as financials, subscribers top Street expectations","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1186962819","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"Walt Disney is up 5.77% after hours following fiscal third-quarter earnings where it topped expectat","content":"
\n
Walt Disney is up 5.77% after hours following fiscal third-quarter earnings where it topped expectations on top and bottom lines and exceeded forecasts for its subscribers to streaming service Disney+.
\n
\n

\n
\n
Those subscribers hit 116 million, vs. an expected 112.8 million. Or at least, that’s what some AMC stockholders are hoping for.
\n
Source: Helen89 / Shutterstock.com
\n
Granted, AMChas reopenednearly all of its theaters in North America. Moreover, the company is gradually bringing moviegoers back to cinemas in Europe.
\n
On the other hand, AMC CEOAdam Aron has admitted that the company nearly filed for bankruptcy five times during the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
As the old expression goes, we’re not out of the woods yet. The recovery process from a once-in-a-generation black-swan event won’t be easy. And that leads us to another old expression: let the buyer beware.
\n
A Closer Look at AMC Stock
\n
AMC Entertainment reported its first-quarter fiscal data on May 6, and we’ll certainly dive into the details of that.
\n
First, though, I’d like to put a microscope to the market’s reaction to the earnings report.
\n
The following trading day, AMC stock jumped 5.67%, closing at $9.51. That’s a pretty clear signal from the market that it felt good about the company’s financial results.
\n
At the same time, investors should know that the company’s trailing 12-month earnings per share is -$15.60. That’s not great, especially for a stock trading today around $10..
\n
With that in mind, let’s rewind a bit. Back in mid-January, AMC stock was trading at around $2.
\n
Then the Reddit crowd pounced on it, and the share price quickly rocketed to a 52-week high of $20.36.
\n
Sensible minds advised caution at that time, but their warnings often fell upon deaf ears. By mid-February, the stock price had declined to $5 and change.
\n
Since that time, AMC stock has wiggled and wobbled in both directions. Clearly, this isn’t a stock that anyone should pour his or her life savings into. Small position sizes should be the rule, not the exception.
\n
Sorry, Not a Winner
\n
If you only look at the market’s reaction to AMC’s first-quarter data release, you might assume that it was a winning quarter in terms of earnings.
\n
However, that’s not the case. As it turns out, AMC reported a first-quarter loss of $567.2 million, which translates to $1.42 a share. Analysts, on average, were expecting the company to lose $1.31 per share.
\n
So, that was a “miss” for AMC. The quarterly revenues were also a “miss” as the company reported $148.3 million, versus the analysts’ average forecast of $156.3 million in revenues.
\n
To use percentages instead of dollar amounts, AMC’s first-quarter revenuesfell by a whopping 84.3%on a year-over-year basis. Furthermore, the company sustained an 88.8% decline in attendance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
Quoting Churchill?
\n
Under normal circumstances, the foregoing stats should induce a share-price decline. But then, we’d be hard-pressed to find evidence that these are “normal” circumstances.
\n
Possibly, the market reacted positively to Aron’s statement during the conference call that “our market share in the United States has soared, increasing by about 25% compared to prepandemic levels.”
\n
That’s impressive, but for me, the revenues are the top line and the earnings are the bottom line.
\n
It’s fine to see butts in seats, but an investor should want to see dollars in hand. Again, recall the -$15.60 per share trailing 12-month earnings I cited earlier.
\n
I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t too pleased with the CEO quoting Winston Churchill during the conference call:
\n
\n “‘This is not the end. Or at least, that’s what some AMC stockholders are hoping for.\nSource: Helen89 / Shutterstock.com\nGranted, AMChas reopenednearly all of its theaters in North America. Moreover, the company is gradually bringing moviegoers back to cinemas in Europe.\nOn the other hand, AMC CEOAdam Aron has admitted that the company nearly filed for bankruptcy five times during the Covid-19 pandemic.\nAs the old expression goes, we’re not out of the woods yet. The recovery process from a once-in-a-generation black-swan event won’t be easy. And that leads us to another old expression: let the buyer beware.\nA Closer Look at AMC Stock\nAMC Entertainment reported its first-quarter fiscal data on May 6, and we’ll certainly dive into the details of that.\nFirst, though, I’d like to put a microscope to the market’s reaction to the earnings report.\nThe following trading day, AMC stock jumped 5.67%, closing at $9.51. That’s a pretty clear signal from the market that it felt good about the company’s financial results.\nAt the same time, investors should know that the company’s trailing 12-month earnings per share is -$15.60. That’s not great, especially for a stock trading today around $10..\nWith that in mind, let’s rewind a bit. Back in mid-January, AMC stock was trading at around $2.\nThen the Reddit crowd pounced on it, and the share price quickly rocketed to a 52-week high of $20.36.\nSensible minds advised caution at that time, but their warnings often fell upon deaf ears. By mid-February, the stock price had declined to $5 and change.\nSince that time, AMC stock has wiggled and wobbled in both directions. Clearly, this isn’t a stock that anyone should pour his or her life savings into. Small position sizes should be the rule, not the exception.\nSorry, Not a Winner\nIf you only look at the market’s reaction to AMC’s first-quarter data release, you might assume that it was a winning quarter in terms of earnings.\nHowever, that’s not the case. As it turns out, AMC reported a first-quarter loss of $567.2 million, which translates to $1.42 a share. Analysts, on average, were expecting the company to lose $1.31 per share.\nSo, that was a “miss” for AMC. The quarterly revenues were also a “miss” as the company reported $148.3 million, versus the analysts’ average forecast of $156.3 million in revenues.\nTo use percentages instead of dollar amounts, AMC’s first-quarter revenuesfell by a whopping 84.3%on a year-over-year basis. Furthermore, the company sustained an 88.8% decline in attendance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.\nQuoting Churchill?\nUnder normal circumstances, the foregoing stats should induce a share-price decline. But then, we’d be hard-pressed to find evidence that these are “normal” circumstances.\nPossibly, the market reacted positively to Aron’s statement during the conference call that “our market share in the United States has soared, increasing by about 25% compared to prepandemic levels.”\nThat’s impressive, but for me, the revenues are the top line and the earnings are the bottom line.\nIt’s fine to see butts in seats, but an investor should want to see dollars in hand. Again, recall the -$15.60 per share trailing 12-month earnings I cited earlier.\nI don’t know about you, but I wasn’t too pleased with the CEO quoting Winston Churchill during the conference call:\n\n “‘This is not the end. It not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.’… “Sir Winston won his titanic fight. I believe that AMC will win our war too.”\n\nI won’t dare say that Aron is arrogant, or that he’s starting to lose his mind. The pandemic has been hard on all of us, so I’ll give him a pass, this time.\nThe Bottom Line\nChurchill quote gaffe aside, I’m having trouble developing a solid bull thesis in favor of AMC stock.\nTherefore, my recommendation is to grab some popcorn, ease the seat back, and enjoy the presentation as a spectator.\nOn the date of publication, David Moadel did not have (either directly or indirectly) any positions in the securities mentioned in this article.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":282,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190073993,"gmtCreate":1620561020212,"gmtModify":1631883990537,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Any one can spare a like/comment? 好穷","listText":"Any one can spare a like/comment? 好穷","text":"Any one can spare a like/comment? 好穷","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/190073993","repostId":"1151257157","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151257157","pubTimestamp":1620451276,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1151257157?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-08 13:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Facebook is an Incredible Growth Stock: 3 Reasons Why","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1151257157","media":"Nasdaq","summary":"Growth investors focus on stocks that are seeing above-average financial growth, as this feature hel","content":"
Growth investors focus on stocks that are seeing above-average financial growth, as this feature helps these securities garner the market's attention and deliver solid returns. HisBerkshire Hathaway(NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B)conglomerate owns several operating businesses, and invests in shares of others. But there are several things they all have in common.
\n
Buffett doesn't chase the latest high-growth sector, or invest in technology he doesn't understand. He and his partner, Charlie Munger, look for moats in a business, the ability to generate a ton of cash, and steady recurring demand for its products. Each one of the three companies below has its own attraction, but all three make for investments Buffett would love.
\n
Avangrid: the best of both worlds
\n
It's no secret that Buffett likes the prospects of the utility sector. His company has 91% ownership in Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE), which Buffett called one of the conglomerate's four \"family jewels\" in his latest shareholder letter. The company is investing billions to upgrade transmission lines and other infrastructure partly to support distribution for growing renewable energy generation. The investments will go on for decades, Buffett says, and the entity doesn't pay dividends to funnel its earnings to this growth.
\n
Avangrid(NYSE:AGR)is another utility that should be on Buffett's radar. It has a traditional gas and electric utility business, but also owns and operates a large, and growing, renewable energy business. It's a smaller and cheaper version of the more well-knownNextEra Energy(NYSE:NEE). After Avangrid closes its merger with PNM Resources this year, it will have about 8 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind generation. That's about one-third the size ofNextEra's renewables portfolio. But Avangrid plans to grow that to over 13 GW by 2025.
\n
Both Avangrid and NextEra offer investors stability from regulated utilities, along with the opportunity for growth from renewables. Avangrid is much smaller than NextEra, with amarket capof about $16 billion versus more than $150 billion for NextEra. It also trades at a lower valuation, with a forward price-to-earnings ratio in the low 20s.
\n
Avangrid's shares also give investors a higher dividend yield supported by the reliable utility segment. And the company expects to grow its earnings per share between 6% and 8% annually through 2025. There's a lot here for Buffett to like.
\n
Garmin: a cash machine
\n
Buffett has always shied away from technology companies, saying he likes to buy what he understands. But a fairly recent large position inApple(NASDAQ:AAPL)bent that unwritten rule, and may have the investor feeling more comfortable with tech companies that focus on consumer products.Garmin(NASDAQ:GRMN)makes high-tech devices for outdoor enthusiasts including pilots, boaters, hikers, hunters, and runners. The company actually has a lot in common with Apple.
\n
Buffett loves companies that generate tons of cash that can be reinvested to grow the business. Apple certainly qualifies, and so does Garmin, which generated $387 million in free cash flow in the fourth quarter of 2020, and ended last year with about $3 billion in cash and marketable securities. The company's cash position equates to approximately 11% of its market cap. Apple's almost $200 billion of cash on its balance sheet makes up less than 9% of its market cap.
\n
Garmin isn't just building up a cash pile, either. Its quarterly cash flow more than covers a dividend that currently yields 1.75%, and the company continues to grow its research and development (R&D) spending as new innovations help to expand revenue. In 2019, R&D spending grew 6.75% versus the prior-year period, but that spending growth increased 16.25% in 2020. Garmin grew its overall revenue by 11% in 2020, the fifth consecutive year of sales growth. Management, which normally guides conservatively, believes 2021 will see revenue growing about 10%.
\n
Disney: a moat like no other
\n
If there's one thing Buffett might like more than cash itself, it is a moat for a business. That helps to ensure that growth and subsequent cash generation remain strong for years and decades.Walt Disney(NYSE:DIS)has a unique moat that is one of the strongest in the business world. And it is using that advantage to leverage itsnew fast-growing streaming-television offerings.
\n
Disney reported over 146 million paid subscribers for its Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu streaming services as of Jan. 2, 2021. It has since announced that Disney+ surpassed 100 million subscribers. The company now sees peak operating losses for the new Disney+ service occurring this year, and profitability in fiscal 2024.
\n
And the benefits from cross-selling between Disney's media and entertainment distribution segment and its parks, experiences, and products segment is the definition of a moat. Recovery from the pandemic's effects in the travel, sports, and entertainment industries will benefit both groups of Disney's businesses for years to come. That, along with the value in the brand, is the type of business advantage that Buffett loves.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks Warren Buffett Would Love
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks Warren Buffett Would Love\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-04-28 22:38 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Warren Buffett's investing style is well known. It has since announced that Disney+ surpassed 100 million subscribers. The company now sees peak operating losses for the new Disney+ service occurring this year, and profitability in fiscal 2024.\nAnd the benefits from cross-selling between Disney's media and entertainment distribution segment and its parks, experiences, and products segment is the definition of a moat. Recovery from the pandemic's effects in the travel, sports, and entertainment industries will benefit both groups of Disney's businesses for years to come. That, along with the value in the brand, is the type of business advantage that Buffett loves.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":415,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":372636472,"gmtCreate":1619197460396,"gmtModify":1634287805971,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Can it make a comeback?","listText":"Can it make a comeback?","text":"Can it make a comeback?","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8d1d60a149b4b7a8f50a8f9c702584e3","width":"1125","height":"2482"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/372636472","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":328,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":372175497,"gmtCreate":1619188356219,"gmtModify":1631884223327,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Just hopped on the boat!","listText":"Just hopped on the boat!","text":"Just hopped on the boat!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/372175497","repostId":"1170805005","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":375,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":370384179,"gmtCreate":1618552749791,"gmtModify":1634292120728,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏼","listText":"👍🏼","text":"👍🏼","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/370384179","repostId":"1184470866","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184470866","pubTimestamp":1618530196,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1184470866?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-16 07:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow jumps 300 points to top 34,000 for the first time amid blowout economic data","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184470866","media":"CNBC","summary":"U.S. stocks climbed to record levels on Thursday after key companies reported strong earnings and fr","content":"
\n
U.S. stocks climbed to record levels on Thursday after key companies reported strong earnings and fresh economic data pointed to a rebound in consumer spending and the jobs market.\nThe Dow Jones ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Economists polled by Dow Jones expected a total of 710,000.\n“Although 34,000 by itself is just another number, this is a monumental feat when you think back to where we were last year at this time,” said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial. “The speed and resiliency of this economic recovery is unlike anything we’ve ever seen and it helps to justify stocks at all-time highs.”\nShares of UnitedHealth, a Dow member, gained 3.8% after results topped the Street’s forecasts and the health insurer raised guidance for 2021.\nPepsi shares added 0.1% after the consumer snack and drink maker said sales last quarter rose nearly 7%, topping estimates.\nThe market has been grinding higher to reach new records in recent sessions amid the economic reopening and trillions of dollars in stimulus. I believe because of monetary stimulus, fiscal stimulus, cash on the sidelines, earnings, markets are okay. Markets are going to continue to be stronger.”\nShares of Citigroup erased earlier gains and fell 0.5% The bank posted results that beat analysts’ estimates for first-quarter profit with strong investment banking revenue and a bigger-than-expected release of loan-loss reserves.\nBank of America shares rose as earnings last quarter blew past the Street on booming trading and investment banking results as well the release of loan-loss reserves. The S&P 500 gained 1.1% to 4,170.42, also reaching a record high. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.3% to 14,038.76.\nTechnology shares rebounded as bond yields fell. The so-called FAANG stocks – Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Alphabet – all climbed more than 1%. The 10-year Treasury yield dropped 8 basis points below 1.56%. Earlier in the year, higher rates caused investors to dump growth-oriented stocks.\nRetail sales surged 9.8% in March as additional stimulus sent consumer spending soaring, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. That number topped the Dow Jones estimate of a 6.1% gain.\nA separate report on Thursday showed that first-time filings for unemployment insurance dropped to the lowest level since March 2020. The Labor Department reported 576,000 new jobless claims for the week ended April 10. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected a total of 710,000.\n“Although 34,000 by itself is just another number, this is a monumental feat when you think back to where we were last year at this time,” said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial. The S&P 500 has gained 11% in 2021 with energy and financials up the most year to date.\n“I am incredibly bullish on the markets, and you are right to be worried about our deficits,” Larry Fink, BlackRock CEO, said in an interview on “Squawk Box.”“If we don’t have economic growth that is sustainable over the next 10 years — our deficits are going to matter and they are going to elevate interest rates ... The shares dipped 2.9%, however.\nNewly public crypto exchange Coinbase rolled over and closed the day down 1.7% in volatile trading. This year, however, the 90-year-old Buffett is taking the meeting to Los Angeles so he can be by 97-year-old Berkshire Vice Chairman Charlie Munger’s side once again. Munger resides in Los Angeles and missed the last annual meeting due to travel restrictions. It will be the first time that the annual meeting will take place outside of Omaha, Nebraska. While “Woodstock for Capitalists” will be missing the capitalists once again, the tone of the meeting may more likely resemble the meetings of old with shareholders clamoring for Buffett’s outlook on the world following an unprecedented year and the Oracle more likely to oblige after holding back last year with the country just starting its fight through the deadly and uncertain pandemic.“I hope there would be a pretty sharp contrast in the overall demeanor of the folks at Berkshire,” said Cathy Seifert, a Berkshire analyst at CFRA Research. “Last year, there was a degree of an alarm just because this was an event that was very difficult to price. It was kind of written all over his face. This annual meeting, the tone from an underlying operational perspective should be more relaxed.”(You can view last year’s annual meeting and the others at theWarren Buffett Archive.)Berkshire’s other vice chairmen, Ajit Jain and Greg Abel, will be on hand to answer the three-and-a-half hours of questions as well.Berkshire’s B shareswere up more than 1% on the week, bringing their return in the last 12 months to more than 47%.Among the big topics shareholders will want answers on:Airlines:His thoughts on the industry after revealing at last year’s meeting he sold his entire stake (with the shares then subsequently roaring back).Deploying the $138 billion cash pile:Why he’s been buying back a record amount of Berkshire’s stock instead of making one large acquisition and what his plan is going forward.Market outlook:His thought’s on the stock market’s overall valuation following the pandemic comebackBubbles?:Cryptocurrencies and the other possible market manias that have popped up amid the huge rush of retail investors into marketsLife after Buffett and Munger:Berkshire’s succession planDumped airlinesAt the last annual meeting, Buffett revealed that Berkshiresold the entirety of its equity positionin the U.S. airline industry, includingstakes in United, American, Southwest and Delta Air Lines, worth north of $4 billion.“The world has changed for the airlines. And I don’t know how it’s changed and I hope it corrects itself in a reasonably prompt way,” Buffett said at the time. “I don’t know if Americans have now changed their habits or will change their habits because of the extended period.”The sale conveyed a pessimistic view on the industry from the legendary buy-and-hold investor. Many Buffett watchers were left disappointed, however, as shares of those carriers soon embarked on an epic rebound, rallying triple digits from 2020 lows. Even president Donald Trump weighed in on the trade back then, saying that Buffett has been right “his whole life,” butmade a mistake selling airlines.“He might acknowledge that the velocity of this recovery was greater than anticipated,” said Seifert. “The airline disposal may have been a function of their belief that what’s going on in the airline industry may be secular and not cyclical. That’s the one fine distinction that investors may want him to make.”While airline stocks have rebounded drastically over the past year, many argue that the industry may have indeed changed fundamentally due to the economic fallout and the road to a full recovery remains bumpy.United Airlines said this month thatbusiness and international travel recovery is still far off even as the economy continues to reopen.“He may still be right about the airline industry with travel coming back slowly and there being too many planes,” said James Shanahan, a Berkshire analyst at Edward Jones. “Arguably he could still be right about that, but he’s certainly wrong on the stocks.”New stock movesBerkshire bought back arecord of $24.7 billion in its own shares last year, while Buffett also did some bargain-hunting amid the market comeback with sizable positions in big dividend payers ChevronandVerizon.Applewas still the conglomerate’s biggest common stock investment as of the end of 2020. Buffett’s conglomerate also appeared to dial back its exposure to financials. Berkshire exited itsJPMorganandPNC positionat the end of last year, while cutting theWells Fargostake was cut by nearly 60%.“When you think about the legacy of Berkshire Hathaway and all the operating businesses, including railroads, manufacturing, retail, utilities, it’s all old economy type companies,” Shanahan said. “The way the portfolio is comprised now after the selling of airline stocks and selling of the financial stocks, together with huge performance in Apple, it looks a lot more new economy now.”Shanahan estimated that Berkshire bought back another $5 billion of its own shares in the first quarter according to proxy filings.‘Elephant-sized’ deal? The conglomerate was still sitting on a huge cash war chest with more than $138 billion at the end of 2020. Buffett has yet to make the “elephant-sized acquisition” he’s been touting for years. At last year’s meeting, the legendary investor gave a simple reason for his inaction.“We have not done anything because we haven’t seen anything that attractive,” Buffett said. “We are not doing anything big, obviously. We are willing to do something very big. I mean you could come to me on Monday morning with something that involved $30, or $40 billion or $50 billion. And if we really like what we are seeing, we would do it.”The deal-making environment has only become all the more competitive over the past year with the meteoric rise of SPACs, or special purpose acquisition companies. More than 500 blank-check deals with over $138 billion funds are seeking their target companies currently, according to SPAC Research.“This is a significant company with a significant cash position. Investors have the right to know what they intend to deploy the cash,” Seifert said. “They are entitled to have more than just an excuse. Investors are going to start to grow a bit weary if it’s just the same old story. But the stock has recovered nicely, so they are not going to be grumbling too much.”SuccessionWhen it comes to a concrete succession plan, shareholders might not get much more from Buffett and Munger even though they are now both nonagenarians.Abel, vice chairman of noninsurance operations at Berkshire, is seen as a top contender as Buffett’s successor.“I do not expect him to talk about succession in any more detail than he already had,” Shanahan said. “Elevating the status of Abel and Jain to the roles of vice chairmen and having them available and participating in annual meeting speaks volume. I don’t think he necessarily has to say more than that.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":152,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":100551730,"gmtCreate":1619623399220,"gmtModify":1634211235425,"author":{"id":"3571219347240188","authorId":"3571219347240188","name":"BryanChua17","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4842750ef82556ece8dfcfb0ab36577f","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571219347240188","authorIdStr":"3571219347240188"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"BRK.B doing well recently!","listText":"BRK.B doing well recently!","text":"BRK.B doing well recently!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/100551730","repostId":"1194883009","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1194883009","pubTimestamp":1619620707,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1194883009?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-28 22:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Stocks Warren Buffett Would Love","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1194883009","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Warren Buffett's investing style is well known.
