introduces limited measures to tackle gun violence in the US\nPresident Joe Biden and his Attorney-General Merrick Garland announced limited measures to tackle gun violence in the United States on Thursday in what the White House described as a first step to curb mass shootings, community bloodshed and suicides.\nThe new measures include plans for the Justice Department to crack down on self-assembled “ghost guns” and make “stabilising braces” - which effectively turn pistols into rifles – subject to registration under the National Firearms Act.\nBiden said he will ask the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to release an annual report on firearms trafficking in the United States, and make it easier for states to adopt “red flag” laws that aim to prevent individuals deemed to present a danger to themselves or others from owning guns.\nBiden also outlined more ambitious goals that he needs the support of Congress to accomplish, including reintroducing a ban on assault weapons, lifting an exemption on lawsuits against gun manufacturers, and passing a nationwide red flag law.\nEx-NFL player kills five people, then turns gun on himself\nA former Lesslie in suburban Rock Hill, South Carolina, York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said.\nInvestigators were at a loss to offer a motive for the shooting spree that broke out in the quiet community about 48km south of Charlotte, North Carolina.\nAmazon unionisation drive losing by 2-1 margin in early vote results\nAmazon union vote count set to begin\nAn early tally on Thursday of votes in Amazon.com’s closely watched union election in Alabama showed workers voting against forming the first union in the United States by more than a 2-1 margin.\nOf the 3,215 ballots received, at least 600 votes were against unionising and more than 250 votes were for the Bessemer, Alabama, warehouse to form a union.\nThe National Labour Relations Board (NLRB), the agency overseeing the election, lesson","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198321864","media":"Yahoo","summary":"Coca-Cola (KO) is Warren Buffett's oldest stock position at Berkshire Hathaway. It's also providing ","content":"
Coca-Cola (KO) is Warren Buffett's oldest stock position at Berkshire Hathaway. It's also providing some of the best returns, with the stock up over 2,000% since the Oracle of Omaha started buying it 33 years ago. Modern investors looking to navigate the next decade would be well-served to learn how Buffett made this profitable calculation.
\n
At a recentYahoo Finance Plus webinar, Bill Smead, chief investment officer at Smead Capital Management, began the lesson by explaining how Buffett manages growth and value in the Berkshire portfolio.
\n
\"To Buffett and [Charlie] Munger, all investing is value investing. They want to buy the bird in the hand, which is worth two in the bush. They want to buy something for well less than they think it's worth. So the ideal thing in investing is based on the mathematics of common stock investing. If you buy a stock for $30 and you pay cash, the worst thing that could possibly happen to you is it goes to zero. But the best thing that could possibly happen to you is exponential,\" says Smead.
\n
Smead explains how Buffett and Munger differ from legendary value investor Benjamin Graham and why value and growth aren't mutually exclusive. Graham would \"buy 200 cigar butts at half the price that they're worth, and through the market's movements [would] get wealthier doing that,\" says Smead.
\n
Buffett, on the other hand, wants to \"buy a business that is growing over the decades at a time when other people are scared to death or don't understand why it's going to be such a good thing over the next 20 or 30 years — and then enjoy a double whammy, which is the re-evaluation.\" Smead explains this is \"the price that people are willing to pay for each dollar of earnings growth as well as the earnings number [itself] grows.\"
\n
Coca-Cola a risky bet
\n
Berkshire first bought Coke stock from 1988 to 1989,scooping upover 23 million shares. WhenBuffett first started buying in the first quarter, many investors were still skittish from the Black Monday crash in October 1987. Buffett going big on the stock was considered risky, especially because it was not a typical Berkshire investment.
\n
Buffett defended the position in the 1988 annual Berkshire letter to shareholders with what would become one of hismost famous aphorisms. \"In 1988 we made major purchases of Federal Home Loan Mortgage ... and Coca Cola. We expect to hold these securities for a long time. In fact, when we own portions of outstanding businesses with outstanding managements, our favorite holding period is forever,\" said Buffett.
\n
Berkshire more than quadrupled the position to 100 million shares by 1994 and to this day hasn't sold any. After two stock splits, the share count is now 400 million, but Berkshire's cost basis has remained $1.3 billion since 1994. As of year-end 2020, the investment was worth $21.5 billion, a return of 1550%, not including dividends. (Berkshire owns 9.3% of all Coke shares outstanding as of 2020 year-end.)
\n
But the 1987 crash hangover had faded for Buffett, and the world was changing. The Soviet empire was beginning to crumble, and the Berlin Wall was about to topple — which it finally did in November 1989.
\n
Smead relates his own experience as a broker in the 1980s to Buffett, saying, \"Buffett [was buying] Coca-Cola in '89 at about 18 times earnings. Well, I started in the investment business in 1980 as a stockbroker at Drexel Burnham Lambert. And my first stock that I was pitching to people was Coca-Cola — $30 a share. It was at six times earnings paying a 5% dividend. When Buffett bought in eight years later, he paid six times what I was trying to pay for it.\"
\n
Smead explains how investor sentiment changed throughout the 1980s, as memories of the tumultuous 1970s faded and morphed into optimism over abull marketthat would become one of history's longest and most profitable.
\n
\"I would be destitute and living in a tent in downtown Phoenix or Downtown Seattle if I kept pitching [Coca-Cola] stock because no one would buy it. Virtually, no one wanted it. Common stock ownership in 1981 was 8% of U.S. household assets — off the charts low. No one wanted that company,\" he says.
\n
Smead explains how the changing political environment would also change the macro picture, providing new opportunities and markets for companies. \"[A] number of countries that used to be closed were going to open their doors. And the Coca-Cola corporation was going to be able to sell their beverages to a huge part of the population that they had never sold it to before. And in emerging markets and less wealthy countries, that 'clean, something to drink' was very valuable.\"
\n
New investment opportunities post-COVID
\n
In the present day, the pandemic has thrown the macro picture into upheaval again, presenting investors with a new set of challenges. Smead assesses the demographic changes afoot and sets the stage for what he believes are new, secular investment opportunities.
\n
\"We looked at the prior time when the 30- to 45-year-old-age group was dramatically larger than the previous group, the ones that preceded them. And that was the baby boomers taking the place of the silent generation in the 70s and 80s ... And we now have 90 million millennials — not too long from now, 95 million — that are going to take 65 million Gen Xers place in the 30- to 45-year-old age bracket. It's also providing some of the best returns, with the stock up over 2,000% since the Oracle of Omaha started buying it 33 years ago. Modern investors looking to navigate the next decade would be well-served to learn how Buffett made this profitable calculation.\nAt a recentYahoo Finance Plus webinar, Bill Smead, chief investment officer at Smead Capital Management, began the lesson by explaining how Buffett manages growth and value in the Berkshire portfolio.\n\"To Buffett and [Charlie] Munger, all investing is value investing. But the best thing that could possibly happen to you is exponential,\" says Smead.\nSmead explains how Buffett and Munger differ from legendary value investor Benjamin Graham and why value and growth aren't mutually exclusive. Graham would \"buy 200 cigar butts at half the price that they're worth, and through the market's movements [would] get wealthier doing that,\" says Smead.\nBuffett, on the other hand, wants to \"buy a business that is growing over the decades at a time when other people are scared to death or don't understand why it's going to be such a good thing over the next 20 or 30 years — and then enjoy a double whammy, which is the re-evaluation.\" Smead explains this is \"the price that people are willing to pay for each dollar of earnings growth as well as the earnings number [itself] grows.\"\nCoca-Cola a risky bet\nBerkshire first bought Coke stock from 1988 to 1989,scooping upover 23 million shares. WhenBuffett first started buying in the first quarter, many investors were still skittish from the Black Monday crash in October 1987. Buffett going big on the stock was considered risky, especially because it was not a typical Berkshire investment.\nBuffett defended the position in the 1988 annual Berkshire letter to shareholders with what would become one of hismost famous aphorisms. \"In 1988 we made major purchases of Federal Home Loan Mortgage ... and Coca Cola. We expect to hold these securities for a long time. In fact, when we own portions of outstanding businesses with outstanding managements, our favorite holding period is forever,\" said Buffett.\nBerkshire more than quadrupled the position to 100 million shares by 1994 and to this day hasn't sold any. After two stock splits, the share count is now 400 million, but Berkshire's cost basis has remained $1.3 billion since 1994. As of year-end 2020, the investment was worth $21.5 billion, a return of 1550%, not including dividends. (Berkshire owns 9.3% of all Coke shares outstanding as of 2020 year-end.)\nBut the 1987 crash hangover had faded for Buffett, and the world was changing. The Soviet empire was beginning to crumble, and the Berlin Wall was about to topple — which it finally did in November 1989.\nSmead relates his own experience as a broker in the 1980s to Buffett, saying, \"Buffett [was buying] Coca-Cola in '89 at about 18 times earnings. Well, I started in the investment business in 1980 as a stockbroker at Drexel Burnham Lambert. And my first stock that I was pitching to people was Coca-Cola — $30 a share. It was at six times earnings paying a 5% dividend. When Buffett bought in eight years later, he paid six times what I was trying to pay for it.\"\nSmead explains how investor sentiment changed throughout the 1980s, as memories of the tumultuous 1970s faded and morphed into optimism over abull marketthat would become one of history's longest and most profitable.\n\"I would be destitute and living in a tent in downtown Phoenix or Downtown Seattle if I kept pitching [Coca-Cola] stock because no one would buy it. Virtually, no one wanted it. Common stock ownership in 1981 was 8% of U.S. household assets — off the charts low. No one wanted that company,\" he says.\nSmead explains how the changing political environment would also change the macro picture, providing new opportunities and markets for companies. \"[A] number of countries that used to be closed were going to open their doors. And the Coca-Cola corporation was going to be able to sell their beverages to a huge part of the population that they had never sold it to before. And in emerging markets and less wealthy countries, that 'clean, something to drink' was very valuable.\"\nNew investment opportunities post-COVID\nIn the present day, the pandemic has thrown the macro picture into upheaval again, presenting investors with a new set of challenges. Smead assesses the demographic changes afoot and sets the stage for what he believes are new, secular investment opportunities.\n\"We looked at the prior time when the 30- to 45-year-old-age group was dramatically larger than the previous group, the ones that preceded them. And that was the baby boomers taking the place of the silent generation in the 70s and 80s ... And we now have 90 million millennials — not too long from now, 95 million — that are going to take 65 million Gen Xers place in the 30- to 45-year-old age bracket. So that just creates a huge amount of demand for necessities,\" he says.\nSmead references research from Fundstrat Global Advisors that ranks the industries it expects millennials to disrupt as their spending eclipses that of boomers. \"At the top of that list is mortgage interest and finance charges. So long before it was in the news, long before it was popular to think about, we have been over-owning the homebuilders, knowing that we have years of building homes to make up the differential between demand for homes, that population will drive the existing homes for sale,\" Smead says.\nSmead expectsstock pickers to outperformpassive investors over the coming decade. He also sees the footwear and household furnishings and equipment industries to outperform based on the same demographic trends relating to homebuilders.\n\"[T]he irony of the pandemic is: It's actually catalyzed one of our most important themes, which is the necessity spending of the millennial age group,\" says Smead.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":141,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":341668027,"gmtCreate":1617808923369,"gmtModify":1634296370250,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmmm","listText":"Hmmm","text":"Hmmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/341668027","repostId":"1154703130","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":36,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":152144700,"gmtCreate":1625278224400,"gmtModify":1633941845027,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmm","listText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmm","text":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmm","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/563f10927d6dbd9638979684c27a0935","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/152144700","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":120554060,"gmtCreate":1624329098350,"gmtModify":1634007692315,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmmmm","listText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmmmm","text":"$Alibaba(BABA)$hmmmmmm","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e566b65b3b168cbce8859bea0a945a4","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/120554060","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":115,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":181976561,"gmtCreate":1623372271753,"gmtModify":1634034094980,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmmmmm","listText":"Hmmmmm","text":"Hmmmmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/181976561","repostId":"1184070773","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184070773","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623367038,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1184070773?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-11 07:17","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 climbs to a new record close, shrugging off inflation fears","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184070773","media":"cnbc","summary":"The S&P 500 rose to an all-time high on Thursday as investors shrugged off a key inflation report that showed a bigger-than-expected increase in price pressures. The broad equity benchmark climbed nearly 0.5% to a record closing high of 4,239.18. That wasthe largest year-over-year jump in prices in 13 years.
\n
During an interview last week, Michael Arone, the chief investment strategist for State Street Global Advisors’ U.S. SPDR exchange traded fund business, said investors should keep an eye on the labor market for signals of when the Federal Reserve might begin curtailing its bond purchases and allowing long-term interest rates to wise. The energy sector now comprises only 2.8% of the index’s market capitalization, down from 7.1% five years ago.
\n
To broaden the list beyond the 23 stocks in the S&P 500, we began with the S&P Composite 1500 IndexSP1500,+0.04%,which is made up of the S&P 500, the S&P 400 Mid Cap IndexMID,+0.63%and the S&P Small Cap 600 IndexSML,+1.57%.That brought the full list of energy-sector stocks up to 62 companies.
\n
Pipeline partnerships
\n
We then added another group of energy stocks — master limited partnerships, or MLPs, which are primarily income vehicles. As limited partnerships, these investments pass income (and capital losses) from pipelines, fuel storage and transportation businesses through to unit holders, who receive K-1 forms instead of 1099 dividend forms to report income. That makes tax preparation more complicated. MLPs aren’t included in the S&P indexes.
\n
One way to invest in this group of energy stocks is the Alerian MLP ETFAMLP,+2.85%,which holds 17 MLPs. The ETF pays a quarterly dividend and removes the tax complications associated with direct ownership of MLPs. Its current dividend yield is 8.84%, reflecting low MLP prices. (Excluding dividends, AMLP’s share price was up 36% for 2021 through May 28. But it was down 15% from the end of 2019, down 21% from five years earlier and down 67% from 10 years earlier.)
\n
Wall Street’s favorites
\n
Starting with our full list of 79 energy stocks (the 62 in the S&P Composite 1500 Index and the 17 held by AMLP), here are the 20 that are covered by at least five analysts polled by FactSet, with majority “buy” or equivalent ratings, that have the highest upside for the next year implied by consensus price targets:
\n
You may need to scroll the table to see all the data. The list is sorted by the implied 12-month upside based on consensus price targets. Dividend yields are in the right-most column.
\n
The listed company with the highest 12-month upside potential implied by the price targets is Renewable Energy Group Inc.REGI,+4.78%,which is aptly named because of its focus on biodiesel production and refining.
\n
Chevron made the list. The stock’s dividend yield remains attractive at 5.16%, despite a 23% increase for the shares this year through May 28. But Chevron’s arch rival Exxon didn’t make the list, followinglast week’s big victory for activist investorswho gained seats on the company’s board in an effort to push Exxon to change its strategy toward one better-suited for a long-term switch away from fossil fuels.
\n
The second company on the list is Energy Transfer LPET,+3.64%,which has a dividend yield of 6.16% and is expected by analysts to see its partnership unit price increase 34% over the next 12 months. It is one of four MLPs that made the list.
\n
One pipeline operator thatdidn’tmake the list is Williams Cos.WMB,+2.09%,which was up 32% this year through May 28. Williams is not an MLP — it has a traditional corporate structure. The shares have a dividend yield of 6.23%, and Williams, like Exxon and Chevron, has not cut its payout during the pandemic. Eighty percent of analysts polled by FactSet rate Williams “buy” or the equivalent, but the company didn’t make the list because the consensus price target of $28.83 was only 7% above the closing price of $26.34 on May 28.
\n
It’s important to keep in mind that even at this stage of the economic recovery, dividend payouts can be reduced. And even though the analysts at brokerage firms favor these stocks, the price targets only go out 12 months, per tradition. That’s actually a short time frame for such a difficult, volatile sector.
\n
Before committing money to any of these energy companies — or to any investment for that matter — you should do your own research and form your own opinion.
\n
Don’t miss:Amazon and Facebook as defensive plays? (Excluding dividends, AMLP’s share price was up 36% for 2021 through May 28. But it was down 15% from the end of 2019, down 21% from five years earlier and down 67% from 10 years earlier.)\nWall Street’s favorites\nStarting with our full list of 79 energy stocks (the 62 in the S&P Composite 1500 Index and the 17 held by AMLP), here are the 20 that are covered by at least five analysts polled by FactSet, with majority “buy” or equivalent ratings, that have the highest upside for the next year implied by consensus price targets:\nYou may need to scroll the table to see all the data. The list is sorted by the implied 12-month upside based on consensus price targets. Dividend yields are in the right-most column.\nThe listed company with the highest 12-month upside potential implied by the price targets is Renewable Energy Group Inc.REGI,+4.78%,which is aptly named because of its focus on biodiesel production and refining.\nChevron made the list. The stock’s dividend yield remains attractive at 5.16%, despite a 23% increase for the shares this year through May 28. But Chevron’s arch rival Exxon didn’t make the list, followinglast week’s big victory for activist investorswho gained seats on the company’s board in an effort to push Exxon to change its strategy toward one better-suited for a long-term switch away from fossil fuels.\nThe second company on the list is Energy Transfer LPET,+3.64%,which has a dividend yield of 6.16% and is expected by analysts to see its partnership unit price increase 34% over the next 12 months. It is one of four MLPs that made the list.\nOne pipeline operator thatdidn’tmake the list is Williams Cos.WMB,+2.09%,which was up 32% this year through May 28. Williams is not an MLP — it has a traditional corporate structure. The shares have a dividend yield of 6.23%, and Williams, like Exxon and Chevron, has not cut its payout during the pandemic. Eighty percent of analysts polled by FactSet rate Williams “buy” or the equivalent, but the company didn’t make the list because the consensus price target of $28.83 was only 7% above the closing price of $26.34 on May 28.\nIt’s important to keep in mind that even at this stage of the economic recovery, dividend payouts can be reduced. And even though the analysts at brokerage firms favor these stocks, the price targets only go out 12 months, per tradition. That’s actually a short time frame for such a difficult, volatile sector.\nBefore committing money to any of these energy companies — or to any investment for that matter — you should do your own research and form your own opinion.\nDon’t miss:Amazon and Facebook as defensive plays? Yes, along with these other stocks that are cash-flow winners.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":10,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":379207926,"gmtCreate":1618738337865,"gmtModify":1631887089284,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$C3.ai, Inc.(AI)$[难过] ","listText":"$C3.ai, Inc.(AI)$[难过] ","text":"$C3.ai, Inc.(AI)$[难过]","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6ff23cf59fb7b8ccbc4e5b327d898be","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/379207926","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":81,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":370710912,"gmtCreate":1618626004236,"gmtModify":1634291687888,"author":{"id":"3564744370473579","authorId":"3564744370473579","name":"lloII","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3564744370473579","authorIdStr":"3564744370473579"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[呆住] ","listText":"[呆住] ","text":"[呆住]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/370710912","repostId":"1169761437","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1169761437","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1618577693,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1169761437?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-16 20:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 EV Stocks That Could Be Set For A Downturn","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169761437","media":"Benzinga","summary":"The sellers are about to hitTesla, Inc.(NASDAQ:TSLA).\nThe stock has staged an impressive rally over ","content":"
The sellers are about to hitTesla, Inc.(NASDAQ:TSLA).
\n
The stock has staged an impressive rally over the past week as investors think it will benefit from the $2 trillion infrastructure bill, as well as a potential Green New Deal.
\n
But the stock may have become overextended.
\n
The red line on the following chart marks two standard deviations above its recent 20-day average price.
