Or,despite the post-speech rally, markets will still be volatile in the coming months. Even if higher interest rates are still far down the road, the risk of tapering happening fast rather than slowly is still on the table.</p>\n<p>So, should you buy or take a more cautious approach? It mostly hinges on your personal view of where the overall market is headed next.</p>\n<p><b>NVDA Stock: Underlying Business Remains Strong</b></p>\n<p>When I last wrote about Nvidia on July 29, I discussed how&nbsp;its positives outweighed its negatives. More than a month later, that’s still the case. As seen in its most recent quarterly results, its underlying business remains strong.</p>\n<p>Thanks to strong data center and gaming demand, sales in the quarter ending Aug. 1 were up 68% year-over-year and 15% sequentially (quarter-over-quarter). Non-GAAP earnings for NVDA stock were up 89% from last year and 14% from the previous quarter.</p>\n<p>Not only that, crypto worries that were weighing on it before are now on the back burner. With&nbsp;<b>Bitcoin</b>(CCC:<b><u>BTC-USD</u></b>) making a comeback, there’s now less worries about a crypto crash and subsequent chip glut, which was seen a few years back.</p>\n<p>As you likely know, crypto miners are big buyers of Nvidia’s chips. The company has tried to&nbsp;limit its exposure&nbsp;to this very cyclical market by coming out with a dedicated mining chip, and reduced the mining capacity of its GPUs to discourage their use for this purpose. With these preventive measures, plus the crypto price recovery, this summer’s concerns about the issue were likely overblown.</p>\n<p>What The Fed’s Remarks Mean for Nvidia Shares</p>\n<p>Company-specific factors may remain solid for NVDA stock. However, it’s not certain market conditions will continue to be on its side. On one hand, recent remarks from Powell point to tech stocks like this one continuing to perform well.</p>\n<p>In his speech from Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Aug. 27, Powell conveyed his support for tapering of the central bank’s bond repurchase program, but indicated that interest rate increases will not be immediate. He’s also still of the opinion that today’s higher rates of inflation are “transitory.”</p>\n<p>The market reacted positively to the speech, as it convinced investors that the Fed’s policies will&nbsp;stay as-is for at least the next few months.</p>\n<p>In turn, investors started to jump back into tech stocks, as they’re less worried about interest rate increases. With a rotation back into tech plays, Nvidia could keep pushing higher. This may not result in NVDA stock, already up around 70% year-to-date, making it up to $300 per share to close out the year. But it may help its shares make a gradual climb from here.</p>\n<p>On the other hand, Powell’s speech doesn’t guarantee the good times will keep on rolling. Much of his caution about tapering/raising rates has to do with his goal of getting to full employment.Upcoming jobs numbers&nbsp;could signal the Delta variant isn’t slowing down the post-Covid recovery. year.</p>\n<p>Analysts polled by Reuters, however, see the stock market staying rangebound for the remainder of 2021, with the S&amp;P 500 ending the year little changed as the pandemic recovery, along with corporate earnings growth, lose steam.</p>\n<p>“Following a long run, equity indexes have cooled off as the next engine of growth is unclear,” Carter at Lenox Wealth Advisors added. “Fiscal It now accounts for 1 in 5 infections in the United States.\nIn May, federal health officials said that fully vaccinated people no longer needed to mask up, even indoors. The advice signified a sea change in American life, setting the stage for a national reopening that continues to gain momentum.\nBut that was before the spread of the Delta variant. The blue-chip Dow and the S&P 500 advanced about 0.7% and 0.6%, respectively, on the week for their second straight positive week. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained just shy of 0.5% this week for its third winning week in a row.\nThe U.S. economy added 559,000 jobs in May, the Labor Department said on Friday. The number came in slightly lower than an estimate of 671,000 from economists surveyed by Dow Jones, but still showed a healthy rebound in the labor market. It’s an improvement from the upwardly revised 278,000 payrolls added in April.\nThe unemployment rate fell to 5.8% from 6.1%, which was better than the estimate of 5.9%. Many believe the jobs report, while solid, is not strong enough to trigger the Federal Reserve to dial back its bond buying program.\nThe jobs number is “goldilocks for risk,” said John Briggs, global head of strategy at NatWest Markets. It’s “not too hot to bring in the Fed and not too cold to worry about the economy.”\nThe 10-year Treasury yield dipped slightly following the jobs report. To the contrary, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).</p><p>Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&amp;P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.</p><p>\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"</p><p>The two biggest outperforming S&amp;P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"</p><h2>2021 is not 2020</h2><p>Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.</p><p>Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"</p><p>Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)</p>\n<p>Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Ordinarily that would appear to be plenty of headroom to support the dividend. But a combination of prudent spending and investing can help these overlapping groups of people get through a period of uncertainty brought about by pent-up demand and supply shortages.\nBelow are two lists of 19 dividend stocks with attractive yields -- companies that are expected to have plenty of cash flow to cover dividend increases or other actions that may be good for shareholders, including stock repurchases and business expansion.\nThe consumer price index rose by 0.9% in only one month . It's easy to say that you shouldn't buy a car or truck this year. The incredible demand for used vehicles has led to a shortage for many of the most popular new ones, which means dealers will be less likely to haggle.\nOf course you might be in a pickle and need to get another car or truck at the worst time, but maybe you can make a modest selection this time. You might also delay a plan to sell your home and move into a bigger one, considering that every other national housing boom you have ever witnessed has eventually cooled. In other words, it is possible some of your big spending plans can be curbed or delayed.\nTwo dividend stock screens\nWhat do you want from a dividend stock? The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.\nHere's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.\nFor this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&P 500 , the S&P Mid Cap 400 Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.\nThen we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.\nA trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)\nFinancial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded.
