And there are certain stocks that fit that stereotype. The dividends for such stocks are pretty much their only attraction.
\n
On the other hand, you can find dividend stocks that are anything but boring and stodgy. Some of them have even blown away many of the so-called growth stocks in recent months. Here are three dividend stocks that soared more than 50% in 2021 and are still great buys.
\n
\n
1. Devon Energy
\n
Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) isn't just your run-of-the-mill dividend stock. It offers a dividend yield of more than 9%. That's more than seven times greater than the S&P 500's yield.
\n
This high-yield stock also delivered exceptionally high growth in 2021. Devon's shares have skyrocketed more than 160% this year. A rebounding economy along with higher oil and gas prices have been just what the company needed.
\n
Can Devon provide this kind of sizzling growth in the new year? Rising interest rates could limit how much the economy roars.
\n
However, the stock isn't too expensive for the momentum to continue. Devon's shares trade at only 8.3 times expected earnings. The consensus Wall Street target reflects a 29% upside potential for the stock over the next 12 months.
\n
Even if Devon doesn't achieve huge gains in 2022, though, there's still the fantastic dividend. The company pays a fixed dividend that yields only around 1%. But its variable dividend kicks in a lot more. Devon expects to continue generating strong free cash flow next year. It should be in a great position to sustain its market-leading dividend yield.
\n
2. Pfizer
\n
Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) has been known for its dividend for a long time. With a yield of more than 2.6%, it's still attractive for income-seeking investors. But Pfizer hasn't been associated with tremendous gains -- until this year.
\n
The big-pharma stock soared nearly 60% in 2021. You can probably guess what the primary catalyst for Pfizer was -- its COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty. Pfizer expects that Comirnaty will rake in sales of $36 billion this year. Gross profits from the vaccine are split equally with BioNTech.
\n
Pfizer's fortunes should improve in 2022. Governments across the world aren't likely to dial back their vaccination efforts, considering the rapid spread of the coronavirus omicron variant. Pfizer also anticipates winning authorizations for its COVID-19 pill, Paxlovid. One analyst projects that Paxlovid could make $24 billion next year.
\n
Even with its big gain in 2021, Pfizer's shares trade at only 11 times expected earnings. There's some uncertainty about the demand for COVID-19 vaccines and therapies beyond the next couple of years. However, Pfizer still appears to be a solid pick for long-term investors.
\n
3. Eli Lilly
\n
Another big-pharma stock also stood as a massive winner this year. Shares of Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) have jumped more than 60% year to date. Lilly's dividend yield of nearly 1.5% isn't all that impressive, but investors probably don't mind very much with the gains the stock has delivered.
\n
Lilly's COVID-19 antibody therapies have been a huge commercial success. And there are certain stocks that fit that stereotype. The dividends for such stocks are pretty much their only attraction.\nOn the other hand, you can find dividend stocks that are anything but boring and stodgy. Some of them have even blown away many of the so-called growth stocks in recent months. Here are three dividend stocks that soared more than 50% in 2021 and are still great buys.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Devon Energy\nDevon Energy (NYSE:DVN) isn't just your run-of-the-mill dividend stock. It offers a dividend yield of more than 9%. That's more than seven times greater than the S&P 500's yield.\nThis high-yield stock also delivered exceptionally high growth in 2021. Devon's shares have skyrocketed more than 160% this year. A rebounding economy along with higher oil and gas prices have been just what the company needed.\nCan Devon provide this kind of sizzling growth in the new year? Rising interest rates could limit how much the economy roars.\nHowever, the stock isn't too expensive for the momentum to continue. Devon's shares trade at only 8.3 times expected earnings. The consensus Wall Street target reflects a 29% upside potential for the stock over the next 12 months.\nEven if Devon doesn't achieve huge gains in 2022, though, there's still the fantastic dividend. The company pays a fixed dividend that yields only around 1%. But its variable dividend kicks in a lot more. Devon expects to continue generating strong free cash flow next year. It should be in a great position to sustain its market-leading dividend yield.\n2. Pfizer\nPfizer (NYSE:PFE) has been known for its dividend for a long time. With a yield of more than 2.6%, it's still attractive for income-seeking investors. But Pfizer hasn't been associated with tremendous gains -- until this year.\nThe big-pharma stock soared nearly 60% in 2021. You can probably guess what the primary catalyst for Pfizer was -- its COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty. Pfizer expects that Comirnaty will rake in sales of $36 billion this year. Gross profits from the vaccine are split equally with BioNTech.\nPfizer's fortunes should improve in 2022. Governments across the world aren't likely to dial back their vaccination efforts, considering the rapid spread of the coronavirus omicron variant. Pfizer also anticipates winning authorizations for its COVID-19 pill, Paxlovid. One analyst projects that Paxlovid could make $24 billion next year.\nEven with its big gain in 2021, Pfizer's shares trade at only 11 times expected earnings. There's some uncertainty about the demand for COVID-19 vaccines and therapies beyond the next couple of years. However, Pfizer still appears to be a solid pick for long-term investors.\n3. Eli Lilly\nAnother big-pharma stock also stood as a massive winner this year. Shares of Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) have jumped more than 60% year to date. Lilly's dividend yield of nearly 1.5% isn't all that impressive, but investors probably don't mind very much with the gains the stock has delivered.\nLilly's COVID-19 antibody therapies have been a huge commercial success. The company expects revenue of $2.1 billion from them this year. With lower efficacy against the omicron variant, though, the total could be significantly lower.\nHowever, Lilly has plenty of other growth drivers that could make it a top pharma stock again in 2022. At the top of the list are autoimmune disease drugs Olumiant and Taltz, cancer drugs Tyvyt and Verzenio, and diabetes drugs Jardiance and Trulicity.\nLilly's pipeline could also produce additional blockbusters. Many investors will especially watch what happens with Alzheimer's disease candidate donanemab. The company recently initiated a rolling submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for accelerated approval of the drug.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1888,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":698462761,"gmtCreate":1640498250941,"gmtModify":1640498250941,"author":{"id":"4102918773726210","authorId":"4102918773726210","name":"hj489","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f76bb306d5a5646fd7fa385e0fa593c8","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4102918773726210","authorIdStr":"4102918773726210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good news","listText":"Good news","text":"Good news","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/698462761","repostId":"2193781141","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2193781141","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1640485676,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2193781141?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-26 10:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Top Tech Stocks to Buy During a Recession","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2193781141","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Market crashes are inevitable, but they're the perfect time to buy great businesses at a discount.","content":"
We're days away from the end of 2021, and the S&P 500 has put on a master class in outperforming expectations. Just as night follows day, a stock market crash is inevitable because market declines are a natural part of the normal business and investment cycle. No one can forecast exactly when it will strike, but smart investors realize it's best to prepare for the eventuality.
\n
For as long as people have been investing, stretching even as far back to the Dutch tulip mania in the 1600s, busts have followed booms. And what a boom we've enjoyed! Since the bottom of the Great Recession, the S&P 500 has quadrupled in value.
\n
2020's pandemic-driven 34% drop in the stock indexes within the span of just a few weeks was the worst on record. But savvy investors don't have to worry. These events are not a problem when you're invested in the right companies. Being prepared for the worst and hoping for the best means when the next stock market crash or correction occurs, you'll want to have your money invested in stocks that will help lead the way forward. Here are two tech stocks you'll want to buy.
\n
1. Apple
\n
The burden that inflation is imposing on consumers also poses a threat to some of the biggest, best-run businesses, like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), which is currently benefiting from the smartphone upgrade cycle and the rollout of 5G network infrastructure. Any attempt by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to contain runaway inflation could cause an economic slowdown by making money more expensive to borrow. Stock valuations would also turn lower.
\n
That's not necessarily bad news for investors who might find Apple's $2.8 trillion valuation a bit rich to buy into at the moment. The stock trades at 30 times trailing earnings, or about double its typical multiple. A correction would bring Apple back into the realm of the attainable, even as its business continues jogging forward.
\n
Sales of the iPhone 13 are outpacing those of the iPhone 12 at the same time, but Apple reportedly warned suppliers that demand is waning as the calendar year progresses. It's not necessarily for a lack of consumer desire, but rather the global supply chain constraints that have made it difficult to find the product. Apple previously cut its iPhone production target by 10 million units from its original goal of 90 million.
\n
Analysts think many consumers may choose to forgo the iPhone 13 and wait for the next upgrade. Coupled with a market crash, that could put Apple stock at a very attractive entry point with pent-up demand for the next iteration of the iPhone.
\n
2. Amazon
\n
Few companies are as essential to the working of the U.S. economy as Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). It will account for 41.4% of all online spending in the U.S. this year, according to eMarketer estimates. At the same time, Amazon Web Services (AWS), its cloud infrastructure business, is on track to generate over $60 billion in annual revenue in 2021 based on its year-to-date performance. The company is responsible for thousands of web-based businesses and the federal government's ability to remain online, making Amazon crucial to a well-functioning economy.
\n
That won't change if the stock market collapses. Its share of U.S. retail e-commerce sales will be more than 50% larger than the shares of the next nine e-commerce companies combined. Amazon's piece of the online market is nearly six times more than Walmart's second-place share at just 7.2%, and 10 times greater than third-place eBay. E-commerce data tracker Edge by Ascential expects Amazon will see $26.7 billion just in online grocery sales five from now years, or nearly double its current amount.
\n
Amid rising prices and supply chain woes, Amazon has become a lifeline for many, and that will continue long after any financial restructuring. The stock gained 76% during the first year of the pandemic and took a breather during the reopening of the economy. Amazon shares have been relatively flat all year long. Data from July showed that cross-border transactions level stood at 79% of July 2019 volumes, which impliedroom for near-term upside as the economy reopens and travel activity returns to normal.
\n
Of course, that theory is being tested as Covid-19 cases surge due to the Omicron variant, which emerged last month. With cases rising throughout the world, new restrictions are being put in place and some households are rethinking their holiday travel plans. Yet despite current fears, there are reasons to believe that cross-border transactions will rebound.
\n
Data released earlier this weekshowed that holiday travel volumes were at 85% of the levels seen during the holiday season in 2019. Then on Wednesday, a read on consumer confidence showed that customers were feeling more optimistic in the early part of December than they were in November. It’s worth noting, though, that the consumer confidence data was collected just as the Omicron variant became the predominant Covid strain in the U.S.
\n
But there’s more to Mastercard than transaction volumes returning to prepandemic levels. The company is also a dominant player in the payments space—and is taking on upstart companies by launching its own “Buy Now, Pay Later,” or BNPL, offering. U.S.-based BNPL volume is expected to exceed $100 billion by 2024, up from $3 billion in 2019, according to Mercator Advisory Group.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Mastercard Stock Is Worth a Look. Even with its pullback in recent days, the broad market index has gained nearly 30% this year, more than double its long-term historical average.
\n
Yet that just means we're another day closer to the inevitable market correction.
Even with its pullback in recent days, the broad market index has gained nearly 30% this year, more than double its long-term historical average.\nYet that just means we're another day closer to the inevitable market correction. Just as night follows day, a stock market crash is inevitable because market declines are a natural part of the normal business and investment cycle. No one can forecast exactly when it will strike, but smart investors realize it's best to prepare for the eventuality.\nFor as long as people have been investing, stretching even as far back to the Dutch tulip mania in the 1600s, busts have followed booms. And what a boom we've enjoyed! Since the bottom of the Great Recession, the S&P 500 has quadrupled in value.\n2020's pandemic-driven 34% drop in the stock indexes within the span of just a few weeks was the worst on record. But savvy investors don't have to worry. These events are not a problem when you're invested in the right companies. Being prepared for the worst and hoping for the best means when the next stock market crash or correction occurs, you'll want to have your money invested in stocks that will help lead the way forward. Here are two tech stocks you'll want to buy.\n1. Apple\nThe burden that inflation is imposing on consumers also poses a threat to some of the biggest, best-run businesses, like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), which is currently benefiting from the smartphone upgrade cycle and the rollout of 5G network infrastructure. Any attempt by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to contain runaway inflation could cause an economic slowdown by making money more expensive to borrow. Stock valuations would also turn lower.\nThat's not necessarily bad news for investors who might find Apple's $2.8 trillion valuation a bit rich to buy into at the moment. The stock trades at 30 times trailing earnings, or about double its typical multiple. A correction would bring Apple back into the realm of the attainable, even as its business continues jogging forward.\nSales of the iPhone 13 are outpacing those of the iPhone 12 at the same time, but Apple reportedly warned suppliers that demand is waning as the calendar year progresses. It's not necessarily for a lack of consumer desire, but rather the global supply chain constraints that have made it difficult to find the product. Apple previously cut its iPhone production target by 10 million units from its original goal of 90 million.\nAnalysts think many consumers may choose to forgo the iPhone 13 and wait for the next upgrade. Coupled with a market crash, that could put Apple stock at a very attractive entry point with pent-up demand for the next iteration of the iPhone.\n2. Amazon\nFew companies are as essential to the working of the U.S. economy as Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). It will account for 41.4% of all online spending in the U.S. this year, according to eMarketer estimates. At the same time, Amazon Web Services (AWS), its cloud infrastructure business, is on track to generate over $60 billion in annual revenue in 2021 based on its year-to-date performance. The company is responsible for thousands of web-based businesses and the federal government's ability to remain online, making Amazon crucial to a well-functioning economy.\nThat won't change if the stock market collapses. Its share of U.S. retail e-commerce sales will be more than 50% larger than the shares of the next nine e-commerce companies combined. Amazon's piece of the online market is nearly six times more than Walmart's second-place share at just 7.2%, and 10 times greater than third-place eBay. E-commerce data tracker Edge by Ascential expects Amazon will see $26.7 billion just in online grocery sales five from now years, or nearly double its current amount.\nAmid rising prices and supply chain woes, Amazon has become a lifeline for many, and that will continue long after any financial restructuring. The stock gained 76% during the first year of the pandemic and took a breather during the reopening of the economy. Amazon shares have been relatively flat all year long.
