Curiously, the reason that AMD stock is up today is the same thing that's been bugging semiconductor investors all year long: the global semiconductor shortage.
\n
So what
\n
By now this story should be familiar to you. All year long, companies that build things that need semiconductors to run them -- which, at this point in history, means everything from PCs to cellphones to cars to kids' toys -- have struggled to get enough semiconductors to manufacture all the products that their customers want to buy.
\n
Evensemiconductor manufacturers are in something of a bind. On the one hand, constrained chip supplies mean semiconductor makers can charge more money for their chips -- but only if they have enough manufacturing capacity to make those chips in the first place. This is why the latest semiconductor news is such good news for AMD stock.
\n
As Reuters reported on Thursday, just ahead of the Christmas break, AMD was able to amend and extend its contract manufacturing agreement withGlobalFoundries(NASDAQ:GFS). Instead of having GlobalFoundries send it just $1.6 billion worth of silicon wafers between 2022 and 2024, AMD will buy $2.1 billion in wafers from 2022 to 2025.
\n
Now what
\n
Of course, this could actually be a \"good news, bad news\" development for AMD when you think about it. Curiously, the reason that AMD stock is up today is the same thing that's been bugging semiconductor investors all year long: the global semiconductor shortage.\nSo what\nBy now this story should be familiar to you. All year long, companies that build things that need semiconductors to run them -- which, at this point in history, means everything from PCs to cellphones to cars to kids' toys -- have struggled to get enough semiconductors to manufacture all the products that their customers want to buy.\nEvensemiconductor manufacturers are in something of a bind. On the one hand, constrained chip supplies mean semiconductor makers can charge more money for their chips -- but only if they have enough manufacturing capacity to make those chips in the first place. This is why the latest semiconductor news is such good news for AMD stock.\nAs Reuters reported on Thursday, just ahead of the Christmas break, AMD was able to amend and extend its contract manufacturing agreement withGlobalFoundries(NASDAQ:GFS). Instead of having GlobalFoundries send it just $1.6 billion worth of silicon wafers between 2022 and 2024, AMD will buy $2.1 billion in wafers from 2022 to 2025.\nNow what\nOf course, this could actually be a \"good news, bad news\" development for AMD when you think about it. On the one hand, AMD has extended its access to GlobalFoundries', er, foundries for an extra year. On the other hand, though, extending a three-year contract by one year is a 33.3% extension in time, while the number of chips AMD is buying over that longer timespan is just 31.2% more than it was scheduled to acquire over the original three-year timespan.\nNet-net, that works out to slightly less access to GlobalFoundries' manufacturing capacity in the fourth year of the contract than in the original three years. And one also has to wonder if, given the rising prices of semiconductors globally, the extra $500 million AMD will be paying for the fourth year, will buy as large a volume of chips as the company was already contracted to acquire in the first three years of the contract -- a fact Reuters didn't elaborate on.\nUntil we learn more about this deal, the answer to that question will remain up in the air.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1075,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691191556,"gmtCreate":1640143950502,"gmtModify":1640143950650,"author":{"id":"4101449399353620","authorId":"4101449399353620","name":"kenjoe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/38f5f5362d02592d75590648d492d52a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101449399353620","authorIdStr":"4101449399353620"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Alibaba will last. ,"news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":920,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":699631572,"gmtCreate":1639789732697,"gmtModify":1639789732812,"author":{"id":"4101449399353620","authorId":"4101449399353620","name":"kenjoe","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/38f5f5362d02592d75590648d492d52a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101449399353620","authorIdStr":"4101449399353620"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good! Today finally brought some long-sought answers as the Federal Reserve met to discuss the economic challenges ahead. In the weeks leading up to now, the Fed taper has been a hotly debated topic. Tapering refers to the process of scaling back asset purchasing. Moreover, this is a policy decision that often leads to tightened monetary policy, such as increases in interest rates.
\n
It’s worth noting that plenty of speculation has risen around Fed Chairman Jerome Powell delaying plans for a taper due to the increasing threat to the U.S. economy posed by the spread of the omicron variant. Some economic commentators, such as Mohamed A. El-Erian, suggested that he should go beyond the taper rate that was expected due to mounting annual inflation.
\n
In preparing for the Fed Taper meeting, investors across the country have been bracing for the higher interest rates that many have considered inevitable. While the dust is still settling, here are three Federal Reserve announcements from today that everyone should consider.
\n
1) Interest rates will rise.
\n
For anyone concerned with interest rate hikes, they will be coming. As the New York Times reports, the economic projections issued by the Fed include three rate increases that can be expected throughout 2022. Additionally, as the economy recovers, rates will likely increase along with it, rising t0 2.1% by the end of 2024. That’s from the current target range of 0% to 0.25%.
\n
As the central bank issued in a statement, this target range for interest rates will likely be necessary “until labor market conditions have reached levels consistent with the committee’s assessments of maximum employment.”
\n
2) Bond buying will stop.
\n
We may see the monthly bond-buying trend come to a halt. According to a policy statement released today with the Fed’s economic projections, the tactic employed by the central bank during the pandemic to boost economic growth may cease as soon as March 2022. The statement released cited the inflationary trends and labor market developments as the primary motives behind this decision.
\n
In a press conference following the Federal Reserve meeting, Powell reaffirmed this. He stated that the decision to reduce asset purchasing had been spurred by the Fed’s focus on “strengthening labor market and elevated inflation pressures.”
\n
This decision will also allow the Fed to move forward more quickly in its plan to raise interest rates.
\n
3) Asset valuation is key.
\n
Powell has recognized that many households are in decent, if not strong, shape financially. However, he also realizes that businesses are facing a much more difficult economic landscape. Indeed, the road ahead looks challenging. He emphasized that asset valuation is one of the key areas examined by the central bank when it is concerned with assessing financial stability and risk. He described current asset valuations as “somewhat elevated.”
\n
Powell also noted that while funding risk among financial institutions remains low, the Fed considers money market funds a vulnerability.
\n
Despite the economic complications posed by the aforementioned challenges, there are still stocks that stand to benefit from the Fed taper delays.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Fed Taper Alert: 3 Big Takeaways From the Latest Federal Reserve Meeting
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFed Taper Alert: 3 Big Takeaways From the Latest Federal Reserve Meeting\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-16 07:54 GMT+8 investor place\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Inflationary trends have carried the U.S. economy into the holiday season, leading to much speculation as to how policy makers and regulatory officials will handle rising prices in the coming year. ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index",".DJI":"道琼斯"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/12/fed-taper-alert-3-big-takeaways-from-the-latest-federal-reserve-meeting/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1133023138","content_text":"Inflationary trends have carried the U.S. economy into the holiday season, leading to much speculation as to how policy makers and regulatory officials will handle rising prices in the coming year. Britain's leader said he would take more steps to slow the spread of Omicron if needed, after the Netherlands began a fourth lockdown and as other European nations considered restrictions.
\n
\"I think (the stock market) is down over COVID fears and how those fears may extend the continuing supply-chain problems and how that will impact profits ... for companies,” Chuck Carlson, chief executive officer at Horizon Investment Services in Hammond, Indiana.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 433.28 points, or 1.23%, to 34,932.16, the S&P 500 lost 52.62 points, or 1.14%, to 4,568.02 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 188.74 points, or 1.24%, to 14,980.94.
\n
Financials fell 1.9% and materials dropped 1.8%. Microsoft and Tesla were the biggest individual weights on the S&P 500, falling 1.2% and 3.5% respectively.
\n
The indexes finished above their session lows, but the benchmark S&P 500 ended below its 50-day moving average, a key technical level.
\n
In a further knock to market sentiment, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin said on Sunday he would not support Biden's $1.75 trillion domestic investment bill Build Back Better, dealing it a potentially fatal blow.
\n
After Manchin's comments, Goldman Sachs trimmed its quarterly U.S. GDP forecasts for 2022.
\n
The developments came as the Federal Reserve decided last week to end its pandemic-era stimulus faster, with the central bank signaling at least three quarter-percentage-point interest rate hikes by the end of 2022.
\n
Investors have taken a more defensive stance this month, with sectors such as consumer staples and utilities rising most. Those two groups ended Monday's session with slim gains, the only sectors in positive territory.
\n
The S&P 500 remains up 21.6% so far in 2021.
\n
“Given the strength of the market so far this year, in some ways you could see investors take some profits and look for greater clarity in the new year,” said Michael Arone, chief investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors.
\n
In company news, Oracle Corp shares fell 5.2% after the business software maker said it would buy electronic medical records company Cerner Corp for $28.3 billion.
\n
Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 4.38-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 2.70-to-1 ratio favored decliners.
\n
The S&P 500 posted two new 52-week highs and 11 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 13 new highs and 346 new lows.
\n
About 11.4 billion shares changed hands in U.S. exchanges, below the 12 billion daily average over the last 20 sessions.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has been even bolder, forecasting that the metaverse economy could eventually surpass the $80 trillion real-world economy.
\n
Not surprisingly, many investors are looking for ways tocash in on this trend, and buying a few shares of Nvidia and Adobe Systems looks like a great way to do just that. Nvidia
\n
Nvidia is best known for inventing the graphics processing unit (GPU), a chip capable of processing a tremendous amount of data quickly. Over the last two decades, GPUs have revolutionized computer graphics, and Nvidia has established its technology as the gold standard in the video game industry. However, those chips have also become the cornerstone of accelerated computing in data centers, another industry dominated by Nvidia.
\n
Not surprisingly, the chipmaker has made a habit of posting impressive financial results. Revenue soared 64% to $24.3 billion over the past year, supercharged by Nvidia's gaming, data center, and graphics businesses. Its bottom line grew even faster, as free cash flow rocketed 69% to $7.2 billion.
\n
In the coming years, Nvidia's expertise in graphics and accelerated computing should make it a key player in shaping the metaverse. Its recent launch of the Omniverse suite only makes that more likely. Specifically, Omniverse is a GPU-powered 3D development platform that allows creators to collaborate in real time across a variety of 3D design software. That includes products like Unity's game engine and Adobe Substance 3D.
\n
More recently, Nvidia released Omniverse Avatar, a platform for creating artifical-intelligence-powered avatars (digital automatons) that can think, understand, and interact like real people. That's important because the metaverse will likely be full of non-player characters (NPCs), a term that typically refers to video game characters not controlled by the gamer. Those NPCs will make the metaverse feel more like the real world, and Nvidia's technology looks like a perfect fit.
\n
2. Adobe Systems
\n
Adobe breaks its portfolio into three software clouds: Creativity, digital documents, and customer experience. Creative Cloud is perhaps the best known, featuring tools like Photoshop for image editing, Premiere Pro for video editing, and After Effects for cinematic special effects, all three of which are market-leading products. Likewise, many of Adobe's Document Cloud applications have also become industry standards, such as Acrobat for PDF management.
\n
The other piece of Adobe's business is Experience Cloud, a suite of software and services for analytics, marketing, and commerce. Those tools lean on artificial intelligence to help businesses collect data, target content, and personalize the customer journey across mobile apps, websites, and other digital channels. Research company Gartner has recognized Adobe as a leader in the digital experience industry, citing its capacity to manage customer data and personalize content as key differentiators.
\n
Not surprisingly, Adobe's lineup of best-in-class products has been a powerful growth driver. Over the past year, revenue rose 21% to $15.1 billion, and free cash flow surged 34% to $6.6 billion. Moreover, the company is well positioned to maintain that momentum, as many products in its portfolio are relevant to the metaverse, especially in the Creative Cloud and Experience Cloud suites.
\n
For instance, Adobe Substance 3D is a platform for creating, staging, and texturizing 3D content. Substance 3D is already essential to most video game and visual effects workflows, and it should be a valuable resource in creating the virtual content within the metaverse.
\n
Likewise, the metaverse economy will likely mirror the real-world economy, meaning consumers will be able to shop, attend events, and play games. In other words, providing a high-quality experience will be just as critical in a virtual world as it is in the real world. Sera obtained from vaccinees one month after receiving the booster vaccination (third dose of BNT162b2 vaccine) neutralized the Omicron variant to levels that are comparable to thoseobserved for the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 spike protein after two doses.
\n
Sera from individuals who received two doses of the current COVID-19 vaccine did exhibit, on average, more than a 25-fold reduction in neutralization titers against the Omicron variant compared to wild-type, indicating that two doses of BNT162b2 may not be sufficient to protect against infection with the Omicron variant. However, as the vast majority of epitopes targeted by vaccine-induced T cells are not affected by the mutations in Omicron, the companies believe that vaccinated individuals may still be protected against severe forms of the disease and are closely monitoring real world effectiveness against Omicron, globally.
\n
A more robust protection may be achieved by a third dose as data from additional studies of the companies indicate that a booster with the current COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech increases the antibody titers by 25-fold. According to the companies’ preliminary data, a third dose provides a similar level of neutralizing antibodies to Omicron as is observed after two doses against wild-type and other variants that emerged before Omicron. These antibody levels are associated with high efficacy against both the wild-type virus and these variants. A third dose also strongly increases CD8+T cell levels against multiple spike protein epitopes which are considered to correlate with the protection against severe disease. Compared to the wild-type virus, the vast majority of these epitopes remain unchanged in the Omicron spike variant.
\n
“Although two doses of the vaccine may still offer protection against severe disease caused by the Omicron strain, it’s clear from these preliminary data that protection is improved with a third dose of our vaccine,” said Albert Bourla, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Pfizer. “Ensuring as many people as possible are fully vaccinated with the first two dose series and a booster remains the best course of action to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
\n
“Our preliminary, first dataset indicate that a third dose could still offer a sufficient level of protection from disease of any severity caused by the Omicron variant,” said Ugur Sahin, M.D., CEO and Co-Founder of BioNTech. “Broad vaccination and booster campaigns around the world could help us to better protect people everywhere and to get through the winter season. We continue to work on an adapted vaccine which, we believe, will help to induce a high level of protection against Omicron-induced COVID-19 disease as well as a prolonged protection compared to the current vaccine.”
\n
While these results are preliminary, the companies will continue to collect more laboratory data and evaluate real-world effectiveness to assess and confirm protection against Omicron and inform the most effective path forward. On November 25, the companies started to develop an Omicron-specific COVID-19 vaccine. The development will continue as planned in the event that a vaccine adaption is needed to increase the level and duration of protection against Omicron. First batches of the Omicron-based vaccine can be produced and are planned to be ready for deliveries within 100 days, pending regulatory approval. Pfizer and BioNTech have tested other variant-specific vaccines as well, which have produced very strong neutralization titers and a tolerable safety profile. Based on this experience the companies have high confidence that if needed they can deliver an Omicron-based vaccine in March 2022. The companies have also previously initiated clinical trials with variant-specific vaccines (Alpha, Beta, Delta & Alpha/Delta Mix) and data from these studies will be submitted to regulatory agencies around the world to help accelerate the process of adapting the vaccine and gaining regulatory authorization or approval of an Omicron-specific vaccine, if needed. The companies have previously announced that they expect to produce four billion doses of BNT162b2 in 2022, and this capacity is not expected to change if an adapted vaccine is required.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; On November 25, the companies started to develop an Omicron-specific COVID-19 vaccine.
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BNTX":"BioNTech SE","PFE":"辉瑞"},"is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1177589023","content_text":"Pfizer and biontech stocks narrowed their losses in premarket trading after they provided update on Omicron variant.\n\n\nPreliminary laboratory studies demonstrate that three doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine neutralize the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529 lineage) while two doses show significantly reduced neutralization titers\nData indicate that a third dose of BNT162b2 increases the neutralizing antibody titers by 25-fold compared to two doses against the Omicron variant; titers after the booster dose are comparable to titers observed after two doses against the wild-type virus which are associated with high levels of protection\nAs 80% of epitopes in the spike protein recognized by CD8+ T cells are not affected by the mutations in the Omicron variant, two doses may still induce protection against severe disease\nThe companies continue to advance the development of a variant-specific vaccine for Omicron and expect to have it available by March in the event that an adaption is needed to further increase the level and duration of protection – with no change expected to the companies’ four billion dose capacity for 2022\n\nPfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE today announced results from an initial laboratory study demonstrating that serum antibodies induced by the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (BNT162b2) neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant after three doses. Sera obtained from vaccinees one month after receiving the booster vaccination (third dose of BNT162b2 vaccine) neutralized the Omicron variant to levels that are comparable to thoseobserved for the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 spike protein after two doses.\nSera from individuals who received two doses of the current COVID-19 vaccine did exhibit, on average, more than a 25-fold reduction in neutralization titers against the Omicron variant compared to wild-type, indicating that two doses of BNT162b2 may not be sufficient to protect against infection with the Omicron variant. However, as the vast majority of epitopes targeted by vaccine-induced T cells are not affected by the mutations in Omicron, the companies believe that vaccinated individuals may still be protected against severe forms of the disease and are closely monitoring real world effectiveness against Omicron, globally.\nA more robust protection may be achieved by a third dose as data from additional studies of the companies indicate that a booster with the current COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech increases the antibody titers by 25-fold. Compared to the wild-type virus, the vast majority of these epitopes remain unchanged in the Omicron spike variant.\n“Although two doses of the vaccine may still offer protection against severe disease caused by the Omicron strain, it’s clear from these preliminary data that protection is improved with a third dose of our vaccine,” said Albert Bourla, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Pfizer. “Ensuring as many people as possible are fully vaccinated with the first two dose series and a booster remains the best course of action to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”\n“Our preliminary, first dataset indicate that a third dose could still offer a sufficient level of protection from disease of any severity caused by the Omicron variant,” said Ugur Sahin, M.D., CEO and Co-Founder of BioNTech. “Broad vaccination and booster campaigns around the world could help us to better protect people everywhere and to get through the winter season.
