Experts believe these 3D environments represent the next step in social media's development and could fundamentally shape how people shop and play games in the future, among other things.
\n
The metaverse is going to require lots of processing power and sophisticated software to create 3D content, especially if it is ever going to reach the capability of simulating real-world environments, as some experts predict. Here's why Nvidia,Unity Software and Roblox are three no-brainer stocks to consider buying today that could benefit from growing interest in the metaverse.
\n
\n
1. Nvidia
\n
Nvidia is the leading supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) and sells its chips to a range of customers in gaming, data centers, self-driving cars, and graphics artists. The company has the necessary graphics technology to help content creators render 3D environments, but it's now also expanding into software.
\n
Earlier this year, Nvidia unveiled Omniverse -- a software collaboration platform that allows developers to share their digital worlds with each other like sharing a document over the cloud. The company has been working on this platform for several years, and it's built to accurately simulate physical movement in a virtual world and bring together apps and tools to speed up the development of the metaverse.
\n
Omniverse is a lucrative opportunity for Nvidia. It sells for an annual license fee like a typical subscription-as-a-service platform. Management sees this opportunity as worth billions in potential revenue, but the prospects for stretching its profit margin higher through license fees is one reason the stock price has soared 155% so far in 2021.
\n
Nvidia generated $8.2 billion in profit on top of $24 billion in revenue over the last four quarters. But the push into software could push its profits higher relative to revenue, which is why the stock might be worth considering even at its current high stock price.
\n
\n
2. Unity Software
\n
One top software provider that could benefit enormously from the growth of the metaverse is Unity Software. Unity provides software solutions that are used to create, run, and monetize real-time 2D and 3D content across mobile devices, PCs, game consoles, and virtual reality devices. It is widely used in the video game industry, where 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games were made with Unity during the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
Unity recently announced the acquisition of Weta Digital for $1.625 billion. Weta is the software studio that created many of the special effects used so effectively in blockbuster movies like Lord of the Rings,Wonder Woman, and Avatar, and management plans to offer the basic technology behind that was instrumental in creating those effects in a cloud-based version. This will allow millions of consumers to create content on social media and gaming platforms, which serve as the building blocks of the metaverse.
\n
The addition of Weta Digital is expected to expand the company's long-term growth opportunity by an estimated $10 billion.
\n
Unity has been posting impressive revenue growth since its initial public offering in 2020, with the top line advancing by an average rate of 45% each quarter. The company is still in the early stage of expanding its software offering to non-gaming use cases in other industries. Before the Weta acquisition, management estimated its addressable market at $29 billion, but given Unity's trailing-12-month revenue of slightly over $1 billion, this stock has tremendous long-term upside.
\n
\n
3. Roblox
\n
If you are looking for a pure-play option to invest in the metaverse, Roblox is your best bet. It has 47 million daily active users that come to its platform to play games, but management sees potential for the metaverse to appeal to a broad audience beyond those interested in gaming.
\n
Virtual concerts are already becoming a popular activity on Roblox. In July, Roblox teamed up with Sony Music to bring more recording artists to the platform. In November 2020, over 36 million people watched the virtual concert by Lil Nas X. More events like this, especially as the graphics fidelity on the platform advances, could turn Roblox into the next Facebook, or even its parent Meta Platforms.
\n
The stock jumped to a new high after Roblox's strong third-quarter earnings report. Time spent on the platform reached 11 billion hours for an increase of 28% over the year-ago quarter. Experts believe these 3D environments represent the next step in social media's development and could fundamentally shape how people shop and play games in the future, among other things.\nThe metaverse is going to require lots of processing power and sophisticated software to create 3D content, especially if it is ever going to reach the capability of simulating real-world environments, as some experts predict. Here's why Nvidia,Unity Software and Roblox are three no-brainer stocks to consider buying today that could benefit from growing interest in the metaverse.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Nvidia\nNvidia is the leading supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) and sells its chips to a range of customers in gaming, data centers, self-driving cars, and graphics artists. The company has the necessary graphics technology to help content creators render 3D environments, but it's now also expanding into software.\nEarlier this year, Nvidia unveiled Omniverse -- a software collaboration platform that allows developers to share their digital worlds with each other like sharing a document over the cloud. The company has been working on this platform for several years, and it's built to accurately simulate physical movement in a virtual world and bring together apps and tools to speed up the development of the metaverse.\nOmniverse is a lucrative opportunity for Nvidia. It sells for an annual license fee like a typical subscription-as-a-service platform. Management sees this opportunity as worth billions in potential revenue, but the prospects for stretching its profit margin higher through license fees is one reason the stock price has soared 155% so far in 2021.\nNvidia generated $8.2 billion in profit on top of $24 billion in revenue over the last four quarters. But the push into software could push its profits higher relative to revenue, which is why the stock might be worth considering even at its current high stock price.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n2. Unity Software\nOne top software provider that could benefit enormously from the growth of the metaverse is Unity Software. Unity provides software solutions that are used to create, run, and monetize real-time 2D and 3D content across mobile devices, PCs, game consoles, and virtual reality devices. It is widely used in the video game industry, where 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games were made with Unity during the fourth quarter of 2020.\nUnity recently announced the acquisition of Weta Digital for $1.625 billion. Weta is the software studio that created many of the special effects used so effectively in blockbuster movies like Lord of the Rings,Wonder Woman, and Avatar, and management plans to offer the basic technology behind that was instrumental in creating those effects in a cloud-based version. This will allow millions of consumers to create content on social media and gaming platforms, which serve as the building blocks of the metaverse.\nThe addition of Weta Digital is expected to expand the company's long-term growth opportunity by an estimated $10 billion.\nUnity has been posting impressive revenue growth since its initial public offering in 2020, with the top line advancing by an average rate of 45% each quarter. The company is still in the early stage of expanding its software offering to non-gaming use cases in other industries. Before the Weta acquisition, management estimated its addressable market at $29 billion, but given Unity's trailing-12-month revenue of slightly over $1 billion, this stock has tremendous long-term upside.\nImage source: Roblox.\n3. Roblox\nIf you are looking for a pure-play option to invest in the metaverse, Roblox is your best bet. It has 47 million daily active users that come to its platform to play games, but management sees potential for the metaverse to appeal to a broad audience beyond those interested in gaming.\nVirtual concerts are already becoming a popular activity on Roblox. In July, Roblox teamed up with Sony Music to bring more recording artists to the platform. In November 2020, over 36 million people watched the virtual concert by Lil Nas X. More events like this, especially as the graphics fidelity on the platform advances, could turn Roblox into the next Facebook, or even its parent Meta Platforms.\nThe stock jumped to a new high after Roblox's strong third-quarter earnings report. Time spent on the platform reached 11 billion hours for an increase of 28% over the year-ago quarter. When time spent goes up, users spend more money on Robux, which is the virtual currency required to purchase upgrades to personal avatars and unlock other experiences on the Roblox platform. For the third quarter, Roblox reported $509 million in revenue, an increase of 102% year over year.\nRoblox is not profitable yet, mainly because management is continuing to spend heavily on developer exchange fees, which are basically the incentive fees paid out to content developers on the platform when they exchange earned Robux for real-world currency. Still, as long as hours spent on the platform continue to increase, this top IPO stock should continue to hit new highs for years to come.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":443,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603851411,"gmtCreate":1638401174330,"gmtModify":1638401174491,"author":{"id":"4100407041070000","authorId":"4100407041070000","name":"123trader","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"seems a matter of time","listText":"seems a matter of time","text":"seems a matter of time","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603851411","repostId":"2188562523","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2188562523","pubTimestamp":1638400751,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2188562523?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 07:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"First U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2188562523","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected ","content":"
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.
\n
The infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. The San Francisco resident was fully vaccinated, had mild symptoms that are improving, and has been self-quarantining since testing positive. All close contacts have been traced and have tested negative, according to the CDC.
\n
The infected person began traveling home on Nov. 21, landed the following day and felt symptoms on Nov. 25, California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a press briefing. Testing was done Nov. 28 and came back positive the next day. The patient wasn’t hospitalized, he said.
\n
“This individual is doing well,” Newsom said in the briefing, adding that the patient is expected to make a full recovery.
\n
Omicron, first detected in South Africa, has been found in locations from Australia to Germany and Canada. Its arrival had been widely expected in the U.S., and researchers are racing to understand the impact of the heavily mutated strain that features some changes that are absent in other major variants.
\n
Sheer Numbers
\n
Omicron’s mutations number about 30, suggesting the strain could evade antibodies produced by existing vaccines, while being equally or more transmissible than delta, the strain that currently dominates. But little is known for sure, as the variant is so new that scientists haven’t had a chance to complete their studies.
\n
Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s top pandemic adviser, said that he wasn’t aware of any other potential cases of the variant in the U.S. right now. Fauci said to his knowledge the infected person hadn’t received a booster dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
\n
Testing for the infection was done by a Color Health Inc. lab in San Francisco, according to an outside representative of the company. The strain was identified in less than 30 hours from sample collection. The sample was then turned over to the University of California, San Francisco lab of Charles Chiu for confirmatory sequencing.
\n
Chiu said his laboratory heard about the sample on Tuesday afternoon and had received it by 8 p.m. From there, they ran a quick molecular test looking for what’s known as spike-gene dropout, which suggested the sample was possibly omicron.
\n
Small Sequencer
\n
To confirm the finding, the lab sequenced the entire genome of the virus using a pocket-sized sequencing machine made by Oxford Nanopore Technologies PLC. Within five hours, they had confirmed the detection of omicron, and within eight, the entire genome had been decoded.
\n
“At 4 a.m. last night we were able to conclusively demonstrate that this was indeed an infection from the omicron variant,” he said in the press conference.
\n
“All of us have been working furiously for the last 24 hours,” said Grant Colfax, Director of Health for the City and County of San Francisco. “We knew omicron was going to be here. This is cause for concern but this is certainly not cause for panic.”
\n
The patient had earlier received a two doses of Moderna Inc.’s vaccine, but no booster, Colfax said. The city doesn’t plan any additional virus measures or restrictions because of the variant, he said. Likewise, Newsom said he didn’t see shutdowns in the immediate future.
\n
While epidemiologists had said the eventual confirmation of a U.S. case would be unsurprising, given the spread of the variant so far, the milestone carries an emotional punch. Early warnings of possible omicron risks have spooked markets, prompted the U.S. to tighten some travel rules and spurred other countries to shut their borders.
\n
“There’s no reason to panic--but we should remain vigilant,” Newsom said in a tweet. “That means get vaccinated. So far, doctors and researchers there have reported that most cases linked to the variant have been mild, but it’s becoming increasingly prevalent in Cape Town, South Africa’s second largest city.
\n
“It was like a tap being turned on from Thursday or Friday last week,” said Anthony Smith, a general practitioner in the suburb of Sea Point. “I’ve probably come across about 20 cases directly or indirectly.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
First U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFirst U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-02 07:19 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"MRNA":"Moderna, Inc.","BK4548":"巴美列捷福持仓","BK4551":"寇图资本持仓","BK4534":"瑞士信贷持仓","BK4139":"生物科技","BK4533":"AQR资本管理(全球第二大对冲基金)","BK4568":"美国抗疫概念","BK4532":"文艺复兴科技持仓"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/first-u-case-omicron-variant-191025376.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2188562523","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.\nThe infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. This was due mainly to higher revenue contributions from existing stalls, growth in food delivery sales, and contributions from 6 new food stalls and 1 new confectionary shop.\nIts outlet management division saw revenue go up S$9.2 million to S$112.5 million due to contributions from 3 new coffee shops and overall improvement in footfall.\nRevenue from its outlet investment business division more than doubled from S$3.1 million to S$6.8 million, mainly due to the sale of beverages and tobacco products, rental income, and cleaning and utilities services provided to food outlet properties acquired in the second half of FY2020.\nCost of sales grew at a much slower pace than revenue mainly due to government grants and rental rebates, the group said. Cost of sales as a percentage of revenue fell from 73.2 per cent in FY2020 to 67.2 per cent in FY2021.\nSelling and distribution expenses went up S$2.6 million to S$10.2 million due to higher online food delivery fees and an increase in packaging materials used. The group also registered a S$4.1 million increase in administration expenses, primarily due to higher spending on employee benefits.\nKimly's directors said the group is committed to expanding its network of food outlets across Singapore through joint ventures and acquisitions. They cited the recent acquisition of a 75 per cent stake in Tenderfresh as a demonstration of this strategy.\n\"This strategy is expected to further strengthen our revenue base for future growth and enhance our shareholders' value. While there is still uncertainty from the ongoing pandemic, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and prepare ourselves in a strong way for the post-pandemic environment,\" they said in a press release.\nThe directors also noted growing demand from the food delivery business.\n\"Through the integration of new technologies for the upgrade of our central kitchen, we are confident to improve the productivity and reduce the reliance on manpower. We will continue to strengthen our income base by enhancing our food offerings and operational efficiency for greater customer and shareholder value,\" they said.\nKimly shares ended Thursday up 1.25 per cent or 0.5 Singapore cents at S$0.405.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":652,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":608114533,"gmtCreate":1638665042624,"gmtModify":1638665042624,"author":{"id":"4100407041070000","authorId":"4100407041070000","name":"123trader","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"wow! like roller coaster","listText":"wow! like roller coaster","text":"wow! like roller coaster","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/608114533","repostId":"1140678193","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":748,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":601924843,"gmtCreate":1638486282572,"gmtModify":1638486282572,"author":{"id":"4100407041070000","authorId":"4100407041070000","name":"123trader","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏼","listText":"👍🏼","text":"👍🏼","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/601924843","repostId":"1172575405","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1172575405","pubTimestamp":1638458192,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1172575405?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 23:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Top Stocks to Invest in the Metaverse","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1172575405","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These companies are connecting all the hardware and software dots to enable the future of social interaction.","content":"
Revenue from the metaverse, or virtual interactive worlds, is estimated to more than double to $400 billion by 2025, according to Grayscale Research.
Get boosted. Wear a mask indoors.”
\n
Post-Thanksgiving Emergence
\n
The World Health Organization warned that the new variant could fuel a fresh surge in infections, though the global agency also said on Wednesday it believes that current vaccines would protect people infected with the variant from severe disease.
\n
The emergence of omicron in the U.S. followed last week’s Thanksgiving holiday, when air travel reached a pandemic high.
\n
South African researchers said omicron appears to be more transmissible than its predecessors but existing vaccines are still likely to offer good protection against severe illness and death. So far, doctors and researchers there have reported that most cases linked to the variant have been mild, but it’s becoming increasingly prevalent in Cape Town, South Africa’s second largest city.
\n
“It was like a tap being turned on from Thursday or Friday last week,” said Anthony Smith, a general practitioner in the suburb of Sea Point. “I’ve probably come across about 20 cases directly or indirectly.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
First U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFirst U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-02 07:19 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"MRNA":"Moderna, Inc.","BK4548":"巴美列捷福持仓","BK4551":"寇图资本持仓","BK4534":"瑞士信贷持仓","BK4139":"生物科技","BK4533":"AQR资本管理(全球第二大对冲基金)","BK4568":"美国抗疫概念","BK4532":"文艺复兴科技持仓"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/first-u-case-omicron-variant-191025376.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2188562523","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.\nThe infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. This was due mainly to higher revenue contributions from existing stalls, growth in food delivery sales, and contributions from 6 new food stalls and 1 new confectionary shop.\nIts outlet management division saw revenue go up S$9.2 million to S$112.5 million due to contributions from 3 new coffee shops and overall improvement in footfall.\nRevenue from its outlet investment business division more than doubled from S$3.1 million to S$6.8 million, mainly due to the sale of beverages and tobacco products, rental income, and cleaning and utilities services provided to food outlet properties acquired in the second half of FY2020.\nCost of sales grew at a much slower pace than revenue mainly due to government grants and rental rebates, the group said. Cost of sales as a percentage of revenue fell from 73.2 per cent in FY2020 to 67.2 per cent in FY2021.\nSelling and distribution expenses went up S$2.6 million to S$10.2 million due to higher online food delivery fees and an increase in packaging materials used. The group also registered a S$4.1 million increase in administration expenses, primarily due to higher spending on employee benefits.\nKimly's directors said the group is committed to expanding its network of food outlets across Singapore through joint ventures and acquisitions. They cited the recent acquisition of a 75 per cent stake in Tenderfresh as a demonstration of this strategy.\n\"This strategy is expected to further strengthen our revenue base for future growth and enhance our shareholders' value. While there is still uncertainty from the ongoing pandemic, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and prepare ourselves in a strong way for the post-pandemic environment,\" they said in a press release.\nThe directors also noted growing demand from the food delivery business.\n\"Through the integration of new technologies for the upgrade of our central kitchen, we are confident to improve the productivity and reduce the reliance on manpower. We will continue to strengthen our income base by enhancing our food offerings and operational efficiency for greater customer and shareholder value,\" they said.\nKimly shares ended Thursday up 1.25 per cent or 0.5 Singapore cents at S$0.405.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":652,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
