Mutual-fund manager Peter Lynch called such investments 10-baggers. He found quite a few of them during his time leading Fidelity Investments' Magellan Fund.

But Lynch is one of the most successful investors ever. Can investors who aren't legends buy potential 10-baggers now?

I think so. And it doesn't have to take decades to generate 10x returns. Here are three stocks that may be able to turn $100,000 into $1 million by 2030.

1. MercadoLibre

What do you get when you cross three huge opportunities with a fast-growing and underserved region? MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI). The company stands as the leader in Latin American e-commerce, digital payments, and logistics with a market cap below $60 billion.

I view MercadoLibre as one of the top growth stocks to buy for 2022. The stock is down more than 40% from its 52-week high, despite its business continuing to fire on all cylinders. My prediction is that it will rebound strongly this year.

However, I'm even more excited about MercadoLibre's prospects throughout the rest of this decade. Investment-firm Morgan Stanley expects the e-commerce market-penetration rate in Latin America will double by 2025 and continue growing rapidly afterward. MercadoLibre will be the obvious winner if this projection is right -- both with its e-commerce and logistics services.

There are also millions of people in Latin America who don't use banking services or have only limited banking services. MercadoLibre's MercadoPago payment platform provides a great solution for these individuals. I think that digital payments will become a much bigger business for the company and help it potentially deliver a 10x return by 2030.

2. Unity Software

ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood believes that the metaverse could be worth trillions of dollars. Matthew Ball, CEO of venture-capital firm Epyllion, projects that the metaverse opportunity could reach $30 trillion over the next 15 years. If they're anywhere close to being right, Unity Software (NYSE:U) could easily turn an initial investment of $100,000 into $1 million by the end of this decade.

Unity isn't a company that's in the limelight all that much. However, its software was used to develop more than 700 of the top 1,000 mobile games. Unity's platform is No. 1, by far, in creating interactive, real-time 3D content.

The rise of the metaverse should lead to a lot more of this content. That presents a massive opportunity for Unity -- one that the company fully intends to seize. CEO John Riccitiello said in Unity's third-quarter conference call that the company's goal is for between 60% and 80% of metaverse content to be built with its software.

Riccitiello's range seems attainable based on Unity's past track record. If the metaverse delivers on its potential, it's not hard to envision Unity's market cap increasing from the current $37 billion to at least $370 billion by 2030.

3. Twist Bioscience

Twist Bioscience (NASDAQ:TWST) ranks as one of the most intriguing biotech stocks on the market. The company specializes in making synthetic DNA. This DNA is used in a variety of ways, including drug development and research.

Twist estimates that the addressable market for its synthetic DNA is around $1.8 billion annually. It believes there's at least another $1 billion per-year opportunity in tools for next-generation sequencing (NGS) sample preparation.

I don't think those markets are enough to make Twist a 10-bagger by 2030. However, the company is focusing on another area that could enable its stock to deliver a 10x or greater return over the next few years: DNA data storage, which presents a $35 billion opportunity. And DNA holds the potential to store data more cost-effectively for longer periods of time than other alternatives.

Twist has a long way to go on this front. But the company is making progress, including confirming that it can synthesize DNA on a 1-micron chip.

I think that Twist can get the costs of DNA data storage near $100 per terabyte. If it reaches this milestone, this stock should be a surefire 10-bagger.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks that Can Turn $100,000 into $1 Million by 2030
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks that Can Turn $100,000 into $1 Million by 2030\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-07 23:26 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
There's something especially alluring about the potential to achieve a 10x return. Many tech companies that benefited from stay-at-home tailwinds during the pandemic lost their luster as they faced tougher post-lockdown comparisons. Rising inflation also sparked a rotation from speculative growth stocks toward blue-chip tech stocks.

Those trends could continue in 2022 and generate unpredictable headwinds for tech investors. However, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), PayPal Holdings (NASDAQ:PYPL), and Impinj (NASDAQ:PI) could easily ride out those near-term challenges and generate some market-beating returns this year.

1. Alphabet

Shares of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, rallied 65% in 2021 but still look reasonably valued at 26 times forward earnings.

Google's advertising business, which generates the lion's share of its revenue, experienced a slowdown in the first half of 2020 as the pandemic's initial effect dented its ad sales. However, the growth of its cloud business offset that decline until its ad sales rebounded in the second half of the year.

In 2021, Google's advertising and cloud businesses both fired on all cylinders in a post-lockdown market. Analysts expect its revenue and earnings to rise 39% and 85%, respectively, for the full year even as it faces antitrust probes and fines across Europe, the U.S., and other markets.

Alphabet's stock continues to rally for three simple reasons: Its advertising and cloud businesses are both well-insulated from inflation, its sprawling ecosystem locks in billions of users worldwide, and it's a promising long-term play on newer technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and driverless cars.

Simply put, investors who are looking for an evergreen tech stock that provides an attractive blend of value and growth should buy Alphabet.

2. PayPal

PayPal's stock declined 19% in 2021 as investors fretted over the digital payment company's decelerating growth.

It expects its revenue and adjusted earnings to grow 18% and 19%, respectively, in fiscal 2021 -- but that would represent a slowdown from its 21% revenue growth and 31% adjusted earnings growth in fiscal 2020.

That deceleration raised some concerns about the ambitious growth targets PayPal set forth last February. At the time, PayPal claimed it could more than double its annual revenue from $21.45 billion in 2020 to over $50 billion in 2025, and increase its number of active accounts to 750 million -- compared to its 416 million active accounts in its latest quarter.

Moreover, PayPal's rumored interest in buying Pinterest for about $45 billion last October suggested it was grasping at straws to hit those targets.

But at 35 times forward earnings, PayPal's stock now looks a lot cheaper than more speculative fintech stocks like Block, Adyen, and Affirm. New strategies -- including its "super app" for various financial services, Venmo's partnership with Amazon, and its new buy now, pay later (BNPL) options -- could all stabilize PayPal's growth and bring in new users this year.

If you believe digital payments will render cash and card-based payments obsolete in the future, then it's still a great time to buy PayPal's stock.

3. Impinj

Impinj is one of the world's top producers of radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips, readers, and software. Its RFID chips, which connect over 50 billion items with over 3 million readers worldwide, are widely used to track supply chains, product sales, and consumer trends.

Impinj's RFID business was flourishing before the pandemic hit. Retailers routinely tagged their products with its chips to track customer preferences, make AI-driven decisions, and compete more effectively against superstores and e-commerce giants. Companies also frequently tagged their products to optimize their supply chains and develop new Internet of Things (IoT) services.

Impinj's revenue declined 9% in fiscal 2020 as the pandemic disrupted the retail and manufacturing sectors. However, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), PayPal Holdings (NASDAQ:PYPL), and Impinj (NASDAQ:PI) could easily ride out those near-term challenges and generate some market-beating returns this year.1. AlphabetShares of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, rallied 65% in 2021 but still look reasonably valued at 26 times forward earnings.Google's advertising business, which generates the lion's share of its revenue, experienced a slowdown in the first half of 2020 as the pandemic's initial effect dented its ad sales. However, the growth of its cloud business offset that decline until its ad sales rebounded in the second half of the year.In 2021, Google's advertising and cloud businesses both fired on all cylinders in a post-lockdown market. Analysts expect its revenue and earnings to rise 39% and 85%, respectively, for the full year even as it faces antitrust probes and fines across Europe, the U.S., and other markets.Alphabet's stock continues to rally for three simple reasons: Its advertising and cloud businesses are both well-insulated from inflation, its sprawling ecosystem locks in billions of users worldwide, and it's a promising long-term play on newer technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and driverless cars.Simply put, investors who are looking for an evergreen tech stock that provides an attractive blend of value and growth should buy Alphabet.2. PayPalPayPal's stock declined 19% in 2021 as investors fretted over the digital payment company's decelerating growth. It expects its revenue and adjusted earnings to grow 18% and 19%, respectively, in fiscal 2021 -- but that would represent a slowdown from its 21% revenue growth and 31% adjusted earnings growth in fiscal 2020.That deceleration raised some concerns about the ambitious growth targets PayPal set forth last February. New strategies -- including its \"super app\" for various financial services, Venmo's partnership with Amazon, and its new buy now, pay later (BNPL) options -- could all stabilize PayPal's growth and bring in new users this year.If you believe digital payments will render cash and card-based payments obsolete in the future, then it's still a great time to buy PayPal's stock.3. ImpinjImpinj is one of the world's top producers of radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips, readers, and software. Its RFID chips, which connect over 50 billion items with over 3 million readers worldwide, are widely used to track supply chains, product sales, and consumer trends.Impinj's RFID business was flourishing before the pandemic hit. Retailers routinely tagged their products with its chips to track customer preferences, make AI-driven decisions, and compete more effectively against superstores and e-commerce giants. Companies also frequently tagged their products to optimize their supply chains and develop new Internet of Things (IoT) services.Impinj's revenue declined 9% in fiscal 2020 as the pandemic disrupted the retail and manufacturing sectors. However, analysts expect its revenue to surge 33% in fiscal 2021 as those headwinds wane.Looking ahead, the ongoing supply chain challenges across the world could generate long-term tailwinds for Impinj's business as more companies recognize the value of tagging and scanning their products. Impinj isn't profitable yet, but its gross margins are rising and its losses are narrowing.Impinj's stock more than doubled in 2021, but it still doesn't look too expensive at 10 times next year's sales. For the full year, NIO delivered 91,429 vehicles in 2021, up 109% compared with 2020.

Even though XPeng delivered more cars in 2021, NIO has still delivered the most of the three over the company’s life. NIO has delivered more than 167,000 vehicles life to date. XPeng and Li have delivered about 125,000 and 123,000 vehicle, respectively.

December vehicle deliveries for all EV producers might have been boosted by a subsidy cut coming for Chinese car buyers in 2022. Buyers rushed to get a slightly better deal. The Chinese purchase subsidy for an EV is about 10,000 Yuan, ($1,500), from 14,400 Yuan ($2,200). The $700 difference amounts to about a 2% price bump for typical EVs.

Falling subsidies are one factor investors will have to consider regarding Tesla and Chinese EV makers in 2022. But higher December deliveries mean that earnings estimates for NIO, XPeng, Li, and likely Tesla, will rise in coming weeks. More cars than expected means more sales and better bottom line results.

Strong delivery results might also help shares early in 2022. Shares of Tesla, XPeng and Li had a good to great 2021, gaining 50%, 18% and 11%, respectively. NIO shares struggled, dropping 35% in 2021. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 27% and 19%, respectively.

Starting valuation is one reason for NIO stock’s struggles. Even after underperforming, NIO’s market capitalization is about $54 billion, more than the $43 billion market cap of XPeng and the $33 billion market cap of Li.

Tesla, of course, ended 2021 with a market capitalization north of $1 trillion. This year, that Santa Claus Rally window is set to start on Monday, Dec. 27 — or the latest a Santa Claus rally has started in 11 years, due to the timing of the holidays this year.
\n
According to data from LPL Financial, the Santa Claus Rally period encapsulates the seven days most likely to be higher in any given year. Since 1950, the Santa Claus Rally period has produced a positive return for the S&P 500 78.9% of the time, with an average return of 1.33%.
\n
“Why are these seven days so strong?” wrote Ryan Detrick, LPL Financial chief market strategist, in a note. “Whether optimism over a coming new year, holiday spending, traders on vacation, institutions squaring up their books — or the holiday spirit — the bottom line is that bulls tend to believe in Santa.”
\n
And if history is any indication, the absence of a Santa Claus Rally has also typically served as a harbinger of lower near-term returns.
\n
\"Going back to the mid-1990s, there have been only six times Santa failed to show in December. January was lower five of those six times, and the full year had a solid gain only once (in 2016, but a mini-bear market early in the year),\" Detrick added.
\n
“Considering the bear markets of 2000 and 2008 both took place after one of the rare instances that Santa failed to show makes believers out of us,\" he said. A bear market typically refers to when stocks drop at least 20% from recent record highs. \"Should this seasonally strong period miss the mark, it could be a warning sign.\"
\n
And this year, investors do have considerable additional concerns to mull heading into the new year. Though stocks closed out Thursday's session at fresh record highs before the long holiday weekend, December still marked a volatile month to start, with renewed concerns over the Omicron variant and the potential for tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve weighing on risk assets. Plus, prospects for more near-term fiscal support via the Biden administration's Build Back Better bill have dwindled, and inflation concerns spiked further. Last week, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) — the Fed's preferred inflation gauge — rose at a 4.7% year-over-year clip, or the fastest since 1983.
\n
\"If the U.S. was not battling the Omicron variant, U.S. stocks would be dancing higher as the Santa Claus Rally would have kept the climb going into uncharted territory,\" Edward Moya, chief market strategist at OANDA, wrote in a note last week. \"It is too early to say for sure if we will get a Santa Claus Rally, but given all the short-term risks of Fed tightening, Chinese weakness, fiscal support uncertainty and COVID, Wall Street is not complaining.\"
\n
A man in a Santa Claus costume gestures on the floor at the closing bell of the Dow Industrial Average at the New York Stock Exchange on December 5, 2019 in New York.

Its low enterprise value of $2.1 billion could also make it a tempting takeover target for bigger tech companies.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1056,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":696302359,"gmtCreate":1640613799901,"gmtModify":1640613845827,"author":{"id":"4100083893976530","authorId":"4100083893976530","name":"LLQ_","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100083893976530","authorIdStr":"4100083893976530"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"K","listText":"K","text":"K","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696302359","repostId":"2194177239","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2194177239","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1640559609,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2194177239?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-27 07:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Santa Claus Rally watch: What to know this week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2194177239","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"As traders return from the holiday-shortened week, the price action heading into the new year will be closely monitored — especially given the relatively light economic data and earnings calendar for the coming days. The S&P 500 is entering the period known for ushering in the so-called Santa Claus Rally, or seasonally strong timeframe for stocks at the end of each year.According to data from LPL Financial, the Santa Claus Rally period encapsulates the seven days most likely to be higher in any ","content":"
As traders return from the holiday-shortened week, the price action heading into the new year will be closely monitored — especially given the relatively light economic data and earnings calendar for the coming days.
\n
The S&P 500 (^GSPC) is entering the period known for ushering in the so-called Santa Claus Rally, or seasonally strong timeframe for stocks at the end of each year.
\n
The term, coined by Stock Trader's Almanac in the 1970s, encompasses the final five trading days of the year and first two sessions of the new year.

The S&P 500 added 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite advanced about 0.8%.

Stocks have a tendency to gain in the start of a new year as investors look to put new money to work, Bank of America noted on Monday. The S&P 500 was up in the first week of the calendar year in 11 of the last 13 years, with an average gain of about 1.6%, the firm found.

Tesla helped the market generate some early momentum Monday, rising 6.8% after theelectric vehicle company reported 308,600 deliveries in the fourth quarter, beating expectations.

Along with Tesla, big automakers also saw their shares climb, with Ford Motor and General Motors each rising1.6%.

Reopening stocks also pushed higher. Airlines edged higher as investors shrugged off concerns about holiday flight cancelations that have extended into Monday. United Airlines gained 1% and Alaska Air rose 2.3%. Meanwhile, casino stocks including Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts gained about 1% apiece.

The moves come after markets closed out a strong 2021 last week. TheS&P 500 rose nearly 27% for the year, with the Nasdaq Composite and Dow also posting large returns. Stocks fell slightly on Friday, but the S&P 500 and Dow were positive for the final week of the year.

The new year starts with continued uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic. The rise of the omicron variant helped lead to the thousands of flight cancellations during the holiday season and has led some businesses and schools to consider temporary closures. Also, several major Wall Street banks have asked employees to work from home for the first few weeks of January.

Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that U.S. health officials may soon update guidelines to include a testing recommendation to signal when a person who previously tested positive for Covid can leave isolation.

Inflation and monetary policy are also expected to be key themes for 2022, as investors expect the Federal Reserve to hike rates multiple times in the coming year to help cool the rise in prices for consumers.

“Just as for the economy as a whole, the market story for 2022 will be a return to normal.
