Patience","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198596552","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"BB stock will be under pressure while revenue remains elusive","content":"
BlackBerry (NYSE:BB) has been under strong selling pressure in the last month. However, the meme stock is still up 38% year-to-date. But with BB stock down 8.9% in the last month and investors getting ready to turn the page on 2021, should speculative investors remain patient while BlackBerry’s business model comes to fruition?
\n
That’s a tough ask, but that’s different from saying it’s impossible. Right now, BB stock has a couple of long-term catalysts. However, investors looking at its current fundamentals may be scared away.
\n
Year-over-year revenue for the company’s first two quarters is down 26%. Help could be on the way in the form of revenue that the company intends to receive by selling many of its mobile device patents.
\n
It’s not surprising that BlackBerry is cutting ties from the namesake mobile device that made the company a household name. However, the emergence of the smartphone ended BlackBerry’s supremacy. Selling off the intellectual property will add some much needed revenue to the bottom-line.
\n
But the deal has taken some time and based on recent price action, investors are losing patience. Nevertheless, when the company last reported earnings, Chief Executive Officer John Chen said there was an 80% chance that the sale would be completed by the quarter’s end, which will occur in February 2022.
\n
The larger question, however, is how long investors will have to wait for the company’s other business units to deliver revenue.
\n
BlackBerry’s Future is Also Its Past
\n
I’ve always said I’m old enough to remember when the BlackBerry was a status symbol. But aside from being the precursor to our current smartphone addiction, many people loved the safety and security of their BlackBerry devices.
\n
This focus on cybersecurity is not just part of BlackBerry’s past, but it’s also a key element of the company’s future. In fact, cybersecurity solutions from BlackBerry QNX accounts for nearly 66% of BlackBerry’s revenue. And the global cybersecurity market is expected to be valued at $345.4 billion by 2026. As it is currently valued at $183.34 billion, that’s an increase of around 88% in the next five years.
\n
That’s not the only catalyst for BlackBerry. The company is also competing in the autonomous vehicle space with its Intelligent Vehicle Data Platform (IVY). This is a scalable, cloud-connected software program that BlackBerry is offering as a universal solution for connected vehicles. According to BlackBerry, the IVY system delivers on three key objectives.
\n
First, it accelerates development of “new in-vehicle customer experiences.” It also opens opportunities for connected vehicle manufacturers to expand their community of app developers. And it does all of that while streamlining costs.
\n
However, the real payoff for IVY won’t take place until automated vehicles become a reality. While analysts may disagree on the exact length of time for that to happen, it’s measured in years, not months.
\n
Analysts Are Sending Mixed Messages
\n
The consensus rating for BB stock is a Sell. However, analysts put the consensus 12-month price target for BlackBerry at $9.40. That’s a $7.67 upside. That means if there is a broader sell-off investors may want to consider buying BlackBerry at around $7.60.
\n
That would be in-line with the stock’s most recent rating from Paul Treiber of the Royal Bank of Canada. On Dec. 17, Treiber gave the stock an Underperform rating with a $7.50 price target.
\n
However, after a sharp selloff, BB stock is presenting investors with a potentially bullish technical pattern that may allow the stock to move higher, particularly if it beats expectations when it reports earnings.
\n
Can BB Stock Get it Right?
\n
I don’t currently own BB stock, but it is one of the meme stocks that I find intriguing. That’s because its underlying business plan has potential. However, it’s likely to be several years before that potential is realized. For that reason, I’ll be keeping BlackBerry on my watch list, but I’ll be staying on the sidelines until I hear more.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
BlackBerry is a Tough Buy That Will Test Investor Patience
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBlackBerry is a Tough Buy That Will Test Investor Patience\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-27 14:52 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
BlackBerry (NYSE:BB) has been under strong selling pressure in the last month. This time, they get both.","content":"
Much of the time, when investors build a portfolio of dividend stocks, they have to compromise on growth. But if investors look close enough, there are some growth stocks that are also great dividend stocks. Perhaps the best example -- and a stock that coincidentally may be a great investment idea for 2022 -- is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).
\n
The tech giant is not only throwing off heaps of free cash flow and paying a substantial dividend, but it's growing very rapidly -- and its robust business growth looks poised to persist for some time.
\n
\n
Apple's attractive dividend
\n
Apple's dividend looks extremely durable and likely to grow. Supporting Apple's $14.5 billion in annualized dividend payments (translating to a 0.5% dividend yield based on the stock's share price today) is $93 billion in trailing-12-month free cash flow. This means only about 16% of Apple's free cash flow, or cash provided by operations less capital expenditures, is paid out in dividends.
\n
With such a small percentage of Apple's free cash flow going to dividends, this dividend can not only be sustained amid unexpected challenges, but also could even continue increasing. Apple's most recent dividend increase was earlier this year when the company boosted its quarterly dividend payment by 7%.
\n
The dividend increase was below the company's typical average annual dividend increase (closer to 10%), likely reflecting the uncertain environment the company was operating in as supply shortages and logistical challenges were just starting to surface in a big way. It's likely that Apple's dividend growth rates in future years will be closer to the company's historical growth rates.
\n
While Apple's dividend yield may be low, the company makes up for it with strong dividend-growth prospects. Not only does Apple have a history of robust dividend increases, but it also has the cash flow to support more strong growth in payouts.
\n
A dividend stock and a growth stock?
\n
The great thing about Apple as a dividend stock is that shares also possess strong prospects for share-price appreciation over the long haul.
\n
\n
Despite Apple's trailing-12-month revenue growing 33% and its net income roaring 65% higher over this same time frame, Apple shares trade at just 31 times earnings. There's good reason to expect more robust growth from Apple in the coming years, which makes this valuation look even more conservative.
\n
To illustrate, consider just one of Apple's many growth catalysts -- its services business. Gross profit from Apple's services business in fiscal 2021 was about $48 billion -- up 31% year over year and accounting for nearly a third of the company's total gross profit. But if investors look close enough, there are some growth stocks that are also great dividend stocks. Perhaps the best example -- and a stock that coincidentally may be a great investment idea for 2022 -- is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).\nThe tech giant is not only throwing off heaps of free cash flow and paying a substantial dividend, but it's growing very rapidly -- and its robust business growth looks poised to persist for some time.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nApple's attractive dividend\nApple's dividend looks extremely durable and likely to grow. Supporting Apple's $14.5 billion in annualized dividend payments (translating to a 0.5% dividend yield based on the stock's share price today) is $93 billion in trailing-12-month free cash flow. This means only about 16% of Apple's free cash flow, or cash provided by operations less capital expenditures, is paid out in dividends.\nWith such a small percentage of Apple's free cash flow going to dividends, this dividend can not only be sustained amid unexpected challenges, but also could even continue increasing. Apple's most recent dividend increase was earlier this year when the company boosted its quarterly dividend payment by 7%.\nThe dividend increase was below the company's typical average annual dividend increase (closer to 10%), likely reflecting the uncertain environment the company was operating in as supply shortages and logistical challenges were just starting to surface in a big way. It's likely that Apple's dividend growth rates in future years will be closer to the company's historical growth rates.\nWhile Apple's dividend yield may be low, the company makes up for it with strong dividend-growth prospects. Not only does Apple have a history of robust dividend increases, but it also has the cash flow to support more strong growth in payouts.\nA dividend stock and a growth stock?\nThe great thing about Apple as a dividend stock is that shares also possess strong prospects for share-price appreciation over the long haul.\nImage source: Apple.\nDespite Apple's trailing-12-month revenue growing 33% and its net income roaring 65% higher over this same time frame, Apple shares trade at just 31 times earnings. There's good reason to expect more robust growth from Apple in the coming years, which makes this valuation look even more conservative.\nTo illustrate, consider just one of Apple's many growth catalysts -- its services business. Gross profit from Apple's services business in fiscal 2021 was about $48 billion -- up 31% year over year and accounting for nearly a third of the company's total gross profit. Since this business segment grows fairly consistently and isn't very reliant on year-to-year product launches, there's no reason to expect this segment's contribution to the tech-giant's gross profit to decelerate rapidly. Instead, any deceleration will likely be gradual.\nOf course, there are other growth drivers, too. In fact, Apple has been seeing strong growth in every product and geographic segment -- and Apple's efforts in wearables, headphones, and smart speakers are arguably just getting started.\nAltogether, Apple's strong dividend potential, rapid business growth, and conservative valuation make the tech giant a very attractive stock with a good shot at performing lucratively over the long haul.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":809,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":696265861,"gmtCreate":1640705421494,"gmtModify":1640705421494,"author":{"id":"4096793519942450","authorId":"4096793519942450","name":"zzzzh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e6d86b30da28034be1a0778ba9f5611","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4096793519942450","authorIdStr":"4096793519942450"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696265861","repostId":"1116143212","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1116143212","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1640704764,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1116143212?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-28 23:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Streaming Media Stocks Jumped in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1116143212","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Streaming media stocks jumped in morning trading.Roku, Walt Disney, Discovery and Spotify climbed be","content":"
Streaming media stocks jumped in morning trading.Roku, Walt Disney, Discovery and Spotify climbed between 1% and 5%.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; But if investors look close enough, there are some growth stocks that are also great dividend stocks. In fact, Apple has been seeing strong growth in every product and geographic segment -- and Apple's efforts in wearables, headphones, and smart speakers are arguably just getting started.\nAltogether, Apple's strong dividend potential, rapid business growth, and conservative valuation make the tech giant a very attractive stock with a good shot at performing lucratively over the long haul.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":809,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":696475713,"gmtCreate":1640759090632,"gmtModify":1640759090632,"author":{"id":"4096793519942450","authorId":"4096793519942450","name":"zzzzh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e6d86b30da28034be1a0778ba9f5611","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4096793519942450","authorIdStr":"4096793519942450"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696475713","repostId":"698185014","repostType":1,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":816,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":696969167,"gmtCreate":1640600928169,"gmtModify":1640600928169,"author":{"id":"4096793519942450","authorId":"4096793519942450","name":"zzzzh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e6d86b30da28034be1a0778ba9f5611","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4096793519942450","authorIdStr":"4096793519942450"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"True","listText":"True","text":"True","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696969167","repostId":"1198596552","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198596552","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1640587950,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1198596552?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-27 14:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"BlackBerry is a Tough Buy That Will Test Investor Patience","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198596552","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"BB stock will be under pressure while revenue remains elusive","content":"
BlackBerry (NYSE:BB) has been under strong selling pressure in the last month.
