As with most unprofitable growth stocks, one day's gain could be the next day's loss as short-term volatility is par for the course.
\n

\n
While it's important not to get caught up with day-to-day price action, even long-term investors stand to benefit from monitoring major events so they can filter headlines and determine if a certain news item could have a material impact on the future of a business. Here's the latest on Lucid and Rivian and what it means.
\n

\n
What's driving Lucid higher
\n
Each year around the third Friday of December, the Nasdaq-100 index is reconstituted to reflect the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on its exchange. After market close on Dec. 10, Lucid, Airbnb, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Datadog were added to the index -- replacing CDW, Fox, Cerner, Check Point Software Technologies, Trip.com, and Incyte. The change will be effective on Dec. 20.
\n

\n
Lucid's inclusion into the Nasdaq 100 is somewhat of a formality. But it opens the door to more potential Lucid investors who may not directly buy its stock but will buy financial products that Lucid will become a part of.
\n

\n
Several exchange-traded funds (ETFs), namely the Invesco QQQ Trust ( QQQ -1.45% ), are meant to mirror the performance of the Nasdaq 100. Therefore, these funds are tasked with holding shares of the index's components, which now includes Lucid -- opening the door to a larger buyer pool. Aside from ETFs, there are other financial products like options, futures, and other funds tied to the Nasdaq-100. Similar to when stocks get added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the S&P 500, being added to the Nasdaq 100 is a stamp of legitimacy from the financial markets.
\n

\n
In Lucid's case, the news is timely considering the company's woeful whirlwind of drama. Three major events just transpired: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) subpoena of documents from Lucid on Dec. 3, a senior note offering, and CEO Peter Rawlinson selling some of his Lucid stock. These situations and broader market factors ultimately brought the share price of Lucid down over 20% last week. However, there are good reasons why the cumulative effect of these events, especially the $1.75 billion senior note offering, are a net positive for Lucid. Therefore, another reason why Lucid may be climbing higher again is that Mr. Market has had time to digest last week's events.
\n

\n
What's driving Rivian higher
\n
After an initial surge past a market cap of $150 billion, Rivian has cooled off as investors grapple with broader market volatility and EV valuations. But Rivian got a big boost on Sunday when MotorTrend, a reputable industry publication, named the Rivian R1T the 2022 MotorTrend Truck of the Year. The news comes after the Lucid Air was named the 2022 MotorTrend Car of the Year.
\n

\n
The truck was praised for its performance, range, style, utility, luxury, and a slew of other factors that led MotorTrend to call it \"the most remarkable pickup truck we've ever driven.\"
\n

\n
Unlike the highly competitive luxury sedan market, the electric truck market is more concentrated. With over 150,000 reservations, the Ford ( F -4.75% ) F-150 Lightning has received a lot of praise for its performance and starting price of just $40,000. Ford stock is the second-best performing U.S. automaker behind Lucid this year. It is making sizable investments into building out its EV manufacturing and battery production. However, Rivian isn't trying to go toe-to-toe with a legacy automaker like Ford. Rather, it's looking to carve out its own niche with outdoorsy and recreational folks interested in higher-priced electric trucks and SUVs.
\n

\n
Rivian has yet to begin mass deliveries of its vehicles. But its technology has sparked widespread attention from industry watchers and analysts. Last week, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said that \"we see it [Rivian] as 'the one' that can challenge Tesla,\" praising the companies lead over the competition, impressive specs, partnership with Amazon, rich cash position, and strong management team.
\n

\n
The better buy now
\n
Given that Lucid and Rivian are young brands, positive reviews of their products are a sign they should be taken seriously. The main challenge for both companies is scaling production to meet customer demand and grow sales. Therefore, news that impacts either company's cash position is meaningful.
\n

\n
Lucid and Rivian are similar in that they both have negligible revenue, are years away from profitability, but have a ton of cash and exciting technology. Given Lucid's efficient battery pack, blending of executive luxury and a classic sports car, cost-saving decision not to build its own charging network, and its proven ability to deliver on its promises as a public company, Lucid is arguably the better buy now. However, investors could take a 50/50 split of Lucid and Rivian or invest in a basket of EV stocks to protect against an unforeseen catastrophic loss from any single company.
\n

\n
Should you invest $1,000 in Lucid Group, Inc. right now?
\n
Before you consider Lucid Group, Inc., you'll want to hear this.
\n

\n
Our award-winning analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy right now... and Lucid Group, Inc. wasn't one of them.
\n

\n
The online investing service they've run for nearly two decades, Motley Fool Stock Advisor, has beaten the stock market by over 4X.* And right now, they think there are 10 stocks that are better buys.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Lucid and Rivian Are Soaring Again. But Rivian got a big boost on Sunday when MotorTrend, a reputable industry publication, named the Rivian R1T the 2022 MotorTrend Truck of the Year. The news comes after the Lucid Air was named the 2022 MotorTrend Car of the Year.\n\nThe truck was praised for its performance, range, style, utility, luxury, and a slew of other factors that led MotorTrend to call it \"the most remarkable pickup truck we've ever driven.\"\n\nUnlike the highly competitive luxury sedan market, the electric truck market is more concentrated. Rather, it's looking to carve out its own niche with outdoorsy and recreational folks interested in higher-priced electric trucks and SUVs.\n\nRivian has yet to begin mass deliveries of its vehicles. But its technology has sparked widespread attention from industry watchers and analysts. Last week, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said that \"we see it [Rivian] as 'the one' that can challenge Tesla,\" praising the companies lead over the competition, impressive specs, partnership with Amazon, rich cash position, and strong management team.\n\nThe better buy now\nGiven that Lucid and Rivian are young brands, positive reviews of their products are a sign they should be taken seriously. The main challenge for both companies is scaling production to meet customer demand and grow sales. Therefore, news that impacts either company's cash position is meaningful.\n\nLucid and Rivian are similar in that they both have negligible revenue, are years away from profitability, but have a ton of cash and exciting technology. Given Lucid's efficient battery pack, blending of executive luxury and a classic sports car, cost-saving decision not to build its own charging network, and its proven ability to deliver on its promises as a public company, Lucid is arguably the better buy now. However, investors could take a 50/50 split of Lucid and Rivian or invest in a basket of EV stocks to protect against an unforeseen catastrophic loss from any single company.\n\nShould you invest $1,000 in Lucid Group, Inc. right now?\nBefore you consider Lucid Group, Inc., you'll want to hear this.\n\nOur award-winning analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy right now... and Lucid Group, Inc. wasn't one of them.\n\nThe online investing service they've run for nearly two decades, Motley Fool Stock Advisor, has beaten the stock market by over 4X.* And right now, they think there are 10 stocks that are better buys.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":421,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":604163393,"gmtCreate":1639359940302,"gmtModify":1639359940501,"author":{"id":"4094982368358060","authorId":"4094982368358060","name":"Trainman","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e9b4a5cf72b92493d595c02fc199220","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094982368358060","authorIdStr":"4094982368358060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Did I missed the flight?","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Did I missed the flight?","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Did I missed the flight?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/604163393","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":457,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":604019918,"gmtCreate":1639279041442,"gmtModify":1639279041773,"author":{"id":"4094982368358060","authorId":"4094982368358060","name":"Trainman","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e9b4a5cf72b92493d595c02fc199220","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094982368358060","authorIdStr":"4094982368358060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$CapitaLandInves(9CI.SI)$Early Christmas present? Everybody wants to find the next company that could similarly return more than 1,500% over the next two years.
\n
But seasoned investors know that life-changing wealth is best built by investing for the long term. And while Tesla may still be a market-beating investment for years to come, many investors are looking to get in on the ground floor with other companies in the sector. The three names below provide a diverse mix that, as part of a high-risk, aggressive portion of a portfolio, could provide outsized returns over the long haul.
\n
\n
Nio: Tapping the largest markets
\n
Chinese EV maker Nio (NYSE:NIO) is based in the largest auto market in the world. Tesla put its second manufacturing facility in Shanghai for a reason, after all. Nio, along with its state-owned manufacturing partner JAC Motor, began expanding its manufacturing base in the city of Hefei, China in April 2021. That work will officially double the company's capacity to 240,000 vehicles per year, though the company has said with additional shifts and other arrangements, total capacity could reach 300,000 annually.
\n
Nio is planning on selling those vehicles beyond China as well. Though China may be the biggest auto market, Europe is currently the world's fastest-growing EV market. In 2020, Europe had the largest annual increase in battery electric vehicles, according to the International Energy Agency. Nio is trying to take advantage of that with a move into Norway this year, and plans to begin sales in Germany next year.
\n
Nio isn't just looking at a European business as a place to sell vehicles. In Norway, it has set up a division that includes its Nio House community, and plans to establish its Nio Power infrastructure there. Nio Power includes a battery swap subscription service where customers pay a recurring fee to be able to quickly pull into stations and have a fully charged battery installed in a matter of minutes.
\n
Nio hopes the additional volume of sales will bring it the scale it needs to reach profitability. It has said it is adding three new products next year as well, including the ET7 luxury electric sedan that will mark its first model beyond an SUV design. Investors are counting on Nio growing successfully. The company already has a market cap of more than $60 billion. But a successful business that scales up over time could justify that valuation. Shares are down more than 25% since July 2021, providing an opportunity to start a long-term position.
\n
Arrival electric delivery van. Image source: Arrival.
\n
Arrival: Taking a unique approach
\n
U.K.-based EV maker Arrival (NASDAQ:ARVL) has a different business strategy than most. The company makes electric buses and delivery vans, and has plans for a car designed to be used for ride-hailing services. It announced plans for the car earlier this year in a partnership with Uber Technologies.
\n
Rather than utilizing centralized manufacturing facilities, Arrival is setting up \"microfactories\" near customer locations. Its first two plants in the U.S. are in South Carolina and North Carolina, the latter of which is to supply early investor and future customer United Parcel Service. Arrival has said UPS has plans to order at least 10,000 of its electric delivery vehicles. All told, the company said in its second-quarter financial update that as of August 2021, Arrival has order interest or letters of intent for almost 60,000 vehicles.
\n
Arrival is building the microfactories to supply this potential demand. They can be built in existing warehouses in some cases, located near customer fleet centers, put in service more quickly, and constructed with a lower amount of capital than traditional factories. Arrival has a large amount of operational and financial risk, as it is already valued with a market cap of about $9 billion. But the stock could add diversity to an EV portfolio if one is willing to take on the risks.
\n
\n
ChargePoint: Growing a charging network
\n
Leading EV charging network company ChargePoint Holdings (NYSE:CHPT) offers another avenue of diversity with a stake in the EV charging space. At the end of its fiscal 2022 second-quarter period (ended July 31, 2021), ChargePoint had almost 120,000 active charging ports in the U.S., Europe, and India. It reported year-over-year revenue growth of 61% in that period, and raised its full-year revenue guidance by 15% to a range of $225 million to $230 million.
\n
The majority of that revenue currently comes from building out the network hardware. Longer term, however, investors are looking for subscription revenue that comes from software services for its commercial, fleet, and residential customers. That will be used for scheduling and fueling optimization in addition to maintenance service subscriptions.
\n
ChargePoint is the leading charging hardware provider in North America, and is expanding in Europe. There's no question that if EVs become as ubiquitous as many predict, there will be much more expansion to come. Everybody wants to find the next company that could similarly return more than 1,500% over the next two years.\nBut seasoned investors know that life-changing wealth is best built by investing for the long term. And while Tesla may still be a market-beating investment for years to come, many investors are looking to get in on the ground floor with other companies in the sector. The three names below provide a diverse mix that, as part of a high-risk, aggressive portion of a portfolio, could provide outsized returns over the long haul.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nNio: Tapping the largest markets\nChinese EV maker Nio (NYSE:NIO) is based in the largest auto market in the world. Tesla put its second manufacturing facility in Shanghai for a reason, after all. Nio, along with its state-owned manufacturing partner JAC Motor, began expanding its manufacturing base in the city of Hefei, China in April 2021. That work will officially double the company's capacity to 240,000 vehicles per year, though the company has said with additional shifts and other arrangements, total capacity could reach 300,000 annually.\nNio is planning on selling those vehicles beyond China as well. Though China may be the biggest auto market, Europe is currently the world's fastest-growing EV market. In 2020, Europe had the largest annual increase in battery electric vehicles, according to the International Energy Agency. Nio is trying to take advantage of that with a move into Norway this year, and plans to begin sales in Germany next year.\nNio isn't just looking at a European business as a place to sell vehicles. In Norway, it has set up a division that includes its Nio House community, and plans to establish its Nio Power infrastructure there. Nio Power includes a battery swap subscription service where customers pay a recurring fee to be able to quickly pull into stations and have a fully charged battery installed in a matter of minutes.\nNio hopes the additional volume of sales will bring it the scale it needs to reach profitability. It has said it is adding three new products next year as well, including the ET7 luxury electric sedan that will mark its first model beyond an SUV design. Investors are counting on Nio growing successfully. The company already has a market cap of more than $60 billion. But a successful business that scales up over time could justify that valuation. Shares are down more than 25% since July 2021, providing an opportunity to start a long-term position.\nArrival electric delivery van. Image source: Arrival.\nArrival: Taking a unique approach\nU.K.-based EV maker Arrival (NASDAQ:ARVL) has a different business strategy than most. The company makes electric buses and delivery vans, and has plans for a car designed to be used for ride-hailing services. It announced plans for the car earlier this year in a partnership with Uber Technologies.\nRather than utilizing centralized manufacturing facilities, Arrival is setting up \"microfactories\" near customer locations. Its first two plants in the U.S. are in South Carolina and North Carolina, the latter of which is to supply early investor and future customer United Parcel Service. Arrival has said UPS has plans to order at least 10,000 of its electric delivery vehicles. All told, the company said in its second-quarter financial update that as of August 2021, Arrival has order interest or letters of intent for almost 60,000 vehicles.\nArrival is building the microfactories to supply this potential demand. They can be built in existing warehouses in some cases, located near customer fleet centers, put in service more quickly, and constructed with a lower amount of capital than traditional factories. Arrival has a large amount of operational and financial risk, as it is already valued with a market cap of about $9 billion. But the stock could add diversity to an EV portfolio if one is willing to take on the risks.\nImage source: ChargePoint.\nChargePoint: Growing a charging network\nLeading EV charging network company ChargePoint Holdings (NYSE:CHPT) offers another avenue of diversity with a stake in the EV charging space. At the end of its fiscal 2022 second-quarter period (ended July 31, 2021), ChargePoint had almost 120,000 active charging ports in the U.S., Europe, and India. It reported year-over-year revenue growth of 61% in that period, and raised its full-year revenue guidance by 15% to a range of $225 million to $230 million.\nThe majority of that revenue currently comes from building out the network hardware. Longer term, however, investors are looking for subscription revenue that comes from software services for its commercial, fleet, and residential customers. That will be used for scheduling and fueling optimization in addition to maintenance service subscriptions.\nChargePoint is the leading charging hardware provider in North America, and is expanding in Europe. There's no question that if EVs become as ubiquitous as many predict, there will be much more expansion to come. The investment thesis, however, needs to also rely on the recurring revenue that ChargePoint management predicts is coming. That's where much of the risk lies with ChargePoint. But if investors are looking to have a stake in EVs for the long haul, including charging infrastructure makes sense. As with the EV manufacturers themselves, there will be winners and losers, and these investments all belong in the more speculative portion of a portfolio.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":65,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":698376801,"gmtCreate":1640311693660,"gmtModify":1640313448862,"author":{"id":"4094982368358060","authorId":"4094982368358060","name":"Trainman","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e9b4a5cf72b92493d595c02fc199220","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094982368358060","authorIdStr":"4094982368358060"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Pressure at $5. But staging a side-by-side of Rivian to a traditional automaker like Ford (NYSE:F) has starker contrasts. Or does it?
\n
Ford is transforming itself into a diversified car company and even expects to generate 40% of its revenue from electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. Now that Rivian is public, EV investors may be wondering if it's worth buying shares of the new kid on the block or the old dog that's quickly learning new tricks. Here's the case for each.
\n
Think long-term
\n
Howard Smith (Rivian): Valuation matters in investing. When stocks are flying high, many retail investors aren't happy if their stocks don't double overnight. Rivian's initial public offering (IPO) last week brought that back into focus. Shares soared immediately, giving the company a higher market cap than an established giant like Ford. Even after a bit of a sell-off, that disparity remains.
\n

\n
RIVN data by YCharts.
\n
For the longer term, Rivian makes a compelling investment, even if it seems overvalued now by traditional metrics.
\n
As a start-up, Rivian is very well capitalized after its IPO. It raised $12 billion on top of prior investment rounds that raised $10.5 billion since 2019. And one of those investors is Ford itself, showing that even the legacy automaker believes there's a strong investment case here. That in part comes from its other investing partners, including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and privately held Cox Automotive. Amazon is also a customer-in-waiting with its preliminary order for 100,000 Rivian electric delivery vans. And Cox will support the company with service needs.
\n
Rivian hasn't proven anything yet. It needs to execute, and its pickup truck and SUV models need to gain a customer following, too. But it also gets to start with a blank slate, without any baggage that could be burdensome when trying to pivot a behemoth like Ford. Rivian isn't a story about today or even tomorrow. It's about the long-term future. And while the stock will be volatile along the way, there's good reason to think it's worth holding in a portfolio.
\n
Don't underestimate a seasoned veteran
\n
Daniel Foelber (Ford): Despite being a pioneer in automobile manufacturing and mass production techniques, not to mention selling more cars in the U.S. in September and October than any other company, Ford is valued at less than half of newcomer Rivian. If you're scratching your head as to how a company like Ford can be worth less, let alone half of a company that isn't even delivering vehicles, you aren't alone. But as Howard said, the simple reason is that some investors believe Rivian will grow faster than Ford, and over time, become a better all-around car company. Since it's starting from zero, it wouldn't be surprising for Rivian to have a faster revenue growth rate for several years. And there's no denying Rivian's esteemed backing, killer products, and flush cash position is enticing. Recognizing Rivian's potential, Ford became an early backer in the company. It currently holds around a 12% stake in Rivian. Aside from its Rivian investment, Ford is making moves that shouldn't go unnoticed.
\n
In its recent third-quarter earnings call, Ford raised its full-year 2021 guidance thanks to a recovery in the semiconductor supply chain. It now expects to earn between $4 billion to $5 billion in adjusted free cash flow (FCF) and $10.5 billion to $11.5 billion in earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT). Despite some alleviated chip pressure, Ford still expects the shortage to carry over throughout 2022 and possibly in 2023.
\n
Ford has several electric concepts in its pipeline. But the two most exciting are the Mustang Mach-E SUV and the F-150 Lightning pickup truck.
\n
Ford has over 150,000 reservations for its electric F-150 Lightning pickup, due next spring. Image source: Ford Motor Company.
\n
The Mach-E came out in 2020 and has received positive reviews. In its third-quarter earnings call, Ford said that 90% of Mach-E buyers would recommend the car to other customers. Ford estimated global Mach-E demand could be 200,000 vehicles a year in the near future. More importantly, its highly anticipated F-150 Lightning pickup truck has over 150,000 reservations. Ford plans to produce 80,000 of them a year. To do so, it has invested in its Michigan-based Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center, and Rawsonville Components Plant. The Ford F-150 Lightning is expected to have a starting price of just $40,000 without the bells and whistles and in top trim will have a range of over 300 miles.
\n
In terms of investments, Ford is spending $30 billion on EVs and battery cells by 2025 in order to generate 40% of sales from EVs by 2030. The mid-decade goal is to build 141 gigawatts (GW) of battery production, which Ford says is enough to produce 1 million battery EVs per year. About a third of Ford's EV investment is going toward Blue Oval City, a $11.4 billion project on several sites in Tennessee and Kentucky that includes twin battery plants and an EV assembly plant. It's also investing $1 billion in a plant in Germany that will become all-electric by 2023.
\n
An exciting industry worth investing in
\n
Despite being completely different companies, there's a chance that Rivian and Ford both deserve a place in your portfolio. Rivian is an exciting electric car company with a lot of growth, while Ford is a steadier, more established automaker that's set on becoming a leader in the EV truck market. The deal values the property at $2.6 billion including debt.\nThe resort’s current owner, Japan’s Universal Entertainment Corp., will merge the property with Ader’s 26 Capital Acquisition Corp. and hold an 88% stake in the new business. 26 Capital went public as a shell company earlier this year. It will bring $275 million in cash to the deal, the companies said in a statement.\nWhen present construction is finished next year, the resort will be able to operate 974 gaming tables and two hotel towers with 993 rooms. The merger came just days after the Philippines said it would ease virus restrictions starting this weekend, allowing casinos in Manila to reopen at 30% capacity.\nThe country, whichfellto last place in Bloomberg’s Covid Resilience Ranking late last month, is seeking to open its borders to global travelers as the number of new cases dropped, allowing some fully-vaccinated international travelers from low-risk areas to enter without quarantine.\nThe gaming property is located on the waterfront in Manila’s Entertainment City neighborhood. Current management, including President Byron Yip, will continue to lead the operations.\nUniversal, a maker of pachinko machines, was founded by Japanese businessman Kazuo Okada.
