But he told <i>Barron’s</i> he still recommends the shares because in tech a high P/E ratio isn’t necessarily a reason to sell a stock. For Nvidia, Rasgon sees strong catalysts and a stronger narrative unfolding as the company continues to monetize and expand its software offerings while benefiting from growing metaverse interest and investment.</p>\n<p>On the other side of the equation, a low P/E ratio isn’t a reason to buy a stock, but it’s often a good place to start a search. And there are a few bargains in the semiconductor sector. That’s why <i>Barron’s</i> screened for the 13 cheapest stocks in the Sox index based on price to estimated 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p><b>Cheap Chips</b></p>\n<p>These are the cheapest stocks in the PHLX Semiconductor Sector index based on price to estimated 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/829812482595377c053e5ac2b6b38e12\" tg-width=\"1097\" tg-height=\"593\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source: Bloomberg</span></p>\n<p>Memory chip firm&nbsp;Micron Technology&nbsp;(MU) is the cheapest chip stock in the pack, trading at 8.2 times forward earnings. Earlier this week, the firm reported strong results and released a better-than-expected forecast for the current forecast. The stock has returned 26% so far this year.</p>\n<p>Chip product packaging and test services provider&nbsp;Amkor Technology&nbsp;(AMKR) is second, trading at 9.3 times 2022 earnings estimates. The midcap chip stock has returned 55% in 2021.</p>\n<p>Qorvo&nbsp;(QRVO) and&nbsp;Skyworks Solutions,both suppliers for&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;(AAPL), trade at 11.6 and 12 times forward earnings, respectively. Both stocks have lagged behind their peers, down 7.9% and up 2.2% this year, respectively.</p>\n<p>The fifth cheapest stock in the bunch is&nbsp;Intel&nbsp;(INTC), which Rasgon says is a good example of a cheap, but not necessarily attractive stock. Rasgon said CEO Paul&nbsp;Gelsinger isn’t necessarily doing the wrong thing investing billions in turnaround efforts, but he’s bearish on the stock overall.</p>\n<p>“He’s trying to fix 10 years of sin,” Rasgon said. “These are problems that didn’t just show up last quarter, they’ve been building for 10 years. And it’s going to take five to 10 years to fix it. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.</p>\n<p>Yet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.</p>\n<p><b>There’s Reason for Optimism</b></p>\n<p>The deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.</p>\n<p>The ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including&nbsp;<b>DiDi Global</b>(NYSE:<b><u>DIDI</u></b>),<b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:<b><u>TM</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>SoftBank’s</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>SFTBY</u></b>) Vision Fund.</p>\n<p>Grab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it&nbsp;will be purchasing&nbsp;<b>Jaya Grocer</b>, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.</p>\n<p>This acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.</p>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line on GRAB Stock</b></p>\n<p>I can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.</p>\n<p>Of the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings,according to&nbsp;<i>The Wall Street Journal</i>. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.</p>\n<p>GRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. There’s a good argument to be made for investing now and hoping that the company continues to expand its footprint. Here's the lowdown on each, as well as the best one to buy now.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4a625e7f56da175a14e5d6cbfcdce47c\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1000\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: NIO.</span></p>\n<p><b>Lucid has some serious upside</b></p>\n<p>Share prices of Lucid Group are down 38% from their high as the up-and-coming electric sedan company faces what should be a challenging 2022. Lucid&nbsp;delivered on its promises in 2021&nbsp;by expanding its manufacturing facility, going public and raising cash, entering mass production, and starting customer deliveries. Yet&nbsp;recent events, most notably a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) request for documents&nbsp;that was issued on Dec. 3&nbsp;and a controversial senior note offering, have taken a toll on Lucid stock of late.</p>\n<p>Despite the bad press, there's reason to believe Lucid could be a great stock to own over the long term. The timing of the senior note offering was fantastic for Lucid, which valued its stock at $54.78 per share (a 37% premium to its share price at the time of this writing). It also gives the company the cash needed to accelerate production, expand manufacturing capacity, and meet a customer demand that currently&nbsp;sits at over 17,000 reservations. Given its incredible battery technology, Lucid could become a&nbsp;staple in the luxury sedan market&nbsp;over time.</p>\n<p><b>Rivian isn't worth $86 billion...yet</b></p>\n<p>Rivian has seen its stock sink as the&nbsp;honeymoon period after its initial public offering&nbsp;(IPO) draws to a close. In fact, Rivian's share price&nbsp;fell over 10%&nbsp;on Dec. 17 after the company reported its Q3 2021 earnings, which was its first report as a public company. Lower-than-expected customer deliveries, wider-than-expected losses, and the harsh reality that it's going to take a lot of money to grow its manufacturing and charging network to the size Rivian hopes added up to an overall disappointing quarter. However, Rivian's reservation numbers are growing at a breakneck pace -- quite a bit faster than Lucid's, in fact. However, until Rivian is able to set goals and then meet or exceed them, it's hard to trust the company's trajectory, let alone value Rivian at $86 billion.</p>\n<p><b>Down but not out</b></p>\n<p>No stock on this list is further off its high than Chinese automaker Nio, which got gut-punched with a 55% drawdown and is now hovering right around its 52-week low.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3055b147aea5ec316e8f30352bbd489d\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"516\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>LCID DATA BY YCHARTS</span></p>\n<p>It wasn't long ago that Nio was getting the same buzz Lucid and Rivian have received the last few months. But lately, it's found itself outside the limelight, or briefly in it for negative reasons.</p>\n<p>Nio has been mass-producing&nbsp;electric cars&nbsp;for a few years now and is becoming an established player in the space.Inconsistent production numbers, and an&nbsp;uncertain growth plan in Europe&nbsp;are all headwinds facing Nio right now. What's more, the SEC is&nbsp;tightening its grip&nbsp;on foreign companies like Nio.</p>\n<p>However, Nio held its highly anticipated Nio Day on Dec. 18, unveiling its new ET5 midsize sedan and making various announcements. Nio is showing no shortage of innovation and could be a great long-term winner.</p>\n<p><b>Firing on all electric motors</b></p>\n<p>Tesla is down \"just\" 25% from its high as investors grapple with valuation concerns for many growth stocks. Tesla isn't the same unprofitable and streaky company it once was, but it is priced to perfection at a 22.5 price-to-sales (P/S) ratio and a 301.8 price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio.</p>\n<p>Despite the sky-high valuation,there's a lot to like about Tesla the company. Its industry-leading operating margin, impressive growth, diverse business, and market-leading position in the growing EV industry are&nbsp;reasons to like the company for years to come.</p>\n<p><b>An EV basket for 2022</b></p>\n<p>Two ways to approach the sell-off in top-tier EV stocks are the basket strategy and the wait-and-see strategy. Investing in, say, a&nbsp;50/50 split of Lucid and Tesla, or even an equal split of all four companies on this list, gives exposure to multiple aspects of the market while limiting the damage any single company can inflict on your portfolio.</p>\n<p>However, there's a good chance that we are years away from consistent profitability from Lucid, Rivian, or Nio. While some stocks are hovering around their all-time highs, many growth stocks are actually down a lot for the year, and some are close to their 52-week lows.\nLucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID),Rivian Automotive(NASDAQ:RIVN),Nio(NYSE:NIO), and Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) are four high-profile electric vehicle (EV) stocks that are all down 25% or more from their highs. Here's the lowdown on each, as well as the best one to buy now.\nIMAGE SOURCE: NIO.\nLucid has some serious upside\nShare prices of Lucid Group are down 38% from their high as the up-and-coming electric sedan company faces what should be a challenging 2022. Lucid delivered on its promises in 2021 by expanding its manufacturing facility, going public and raising cash, entering mass production, and starting customer deliveries. Yet recent events, most notably a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) request for documents that was issued on Dec. 3 and a controversial senior note offering, have taken a toll on Lucid stock of late.\nDespite the bad press, there's reason to believe Lucid could be a great stock to own over the long term. The timing of the senior note offering was fantastic for Lucid, which valued its stock at $54.78 per share (a 37% premium to its share price at the time of this writing). It also gives the company the cash needed to accelerate production, expand manufacturing capacity, and meet a customer demand that currently sits at over 17,000 reservations. Given its incredible battery technology, Lucid could become a staple in the luxury sedan market over time.\nRivian isn't worth $86 billion...yet\nRivian has seen its stock sink as the honeymoon period after its initial public offering (IPO) draws to a close. In fact, Rivian's share price fell over 10% on Dec. 17 after the company reported its Q3 2021 earnings, which was its first report as a public company. Lower-than-expected customer deliveries, wider-than-expected losses, and the harsh reality that it's going to take a lot of money to grow its manufacturing and charging network to the size Rivian hopes added up to an overall disappointing quarter. However, Rivian's reservation numbers are growing at a breakneck pace -- quite a bit faster than Lucid's, in fact. However, until Rivian is able to set goals and then meet or exceed them, it's hard to trust the company's trajectory, let alone value Rivian at $86 billion.\nDown but not out\nNo stock on this list is further off its high than Chinese automaker Nio, which got gut-punched with a 55% drawdown and is now hovering right around its 52-week low.\nLCID DATA BY YCHARTS\nIt wasn't long ago that Nio was getting the same buzz Lucid and Rivian have received the last few months. But lately, it's found itself outside the limelight, or briefly in it for negative reasons.\nNio has been mass-producing electric cars for a few years now and is becoming an established player in the space.Inconsistent production numbers, and an uncertain growth plan in Europe are all headwinds facing Nio right now. What's more, the SEC is tightening its grip on foreign companies like Nio.\nHowever, Nio held its highly anticipated Nio Day on Dec. 18, unveiling its new ET5 midsize sedan and making various announcements. Nio is showing no shortage of innovation and could be a great long-term winner.\nFiring on all electric motors\nTesla is down \"just\" 25% from its high as investors grapple with valuation concerns for many growth stocks. Tesla isn't the same unprofitable and streaky company it once was, but it is priced to perfection at a 22.5 price-to-sales (P/S) ratio and a 301.8 price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio.\nDespite the sky-high valuation,there's a lot to like about Tesla the company. Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from&nbsp;plummeting more than 20%&nbsp;on the day of the merger.</p>\n<p>Since then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.</p>\n<p>Now, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.</p>\n<p><b>What’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?</b></p>\n<p>Grab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with&nbsp;operations in Singapore,&nbsp;Malaysia, Cambodia,&nbsp;Indonesia, Myanmar,&nbsp;Philippines,&nbsp;Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.</p>\n<p>There are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.</p>\n<p>For starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, the Asian Development Bank&nbsp;dropped its 2021 growth forecast&nbsp;for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.</p>\n<p>Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.</p>\n<p>Grab reported its&nbsp;third-quarter results&nbsp;on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.</p>\n<p>Yet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.</p>\n<p><b>There’s Reason for Optimism</b></p>\n<p>The deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.</p>\n<p>The ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including&nbsp;<b>DiDi Global</b>(NYSE:<b><u>DIDI</u></b>),<b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:<b><u>TM</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>SoftBank’s</b>(OTCMKTS:<b><u>SFTBY</u></b>) Vision Fund.</p>\n<p>Grab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it&nbsp;will be purchasing&nbsp;<b>Jaya Grocer</b>, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.</p>\n<p>This acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.</p>\n<p><b>The Bottom Line on GRAB Stock</b></p>\n<p>I can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.</p>\n<p>Of the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings,according to&nbsp;<i>The Wall Street Journal</i>. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.</p>\n<p>GRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. There’s a good argument to be made for investing now and hoping that the company continues to expand its footprint. The ecosystem is robust and growing with 96 million active buyers and 7.5 million active sellers, both of which are up substantially on a sequential basis.</p>\n<p>Over the past 12 months, Etsy's profit margin was a superb 21.6%. And the&nbsp;business is a cash cow, producing $584&nbsp;million in free cash flow during that time. That leaves lots of room to potentially buy back stock, further boosting earnings per share.</p>\n<p>The stock has been a massive outperformer, skyrocketing nearly 1,600%&nbsp;over the past five years. But don't think the party is over for this&nbsp;booming&nbsp;e-commerce&nbsp;business. CEO Josh Silverman has ambitions to create a \"House of Brands\" that will penetrate what the leadership team believes is a $1.7&nbsp;trillion global opportunity. The recent acquisitions of Depop, a secondhand-fashion reseller, and Elo7, known as the Etsy of Brazil, should help support that&nbsp;vision of growth for the company in the decade ahead.</p>\n<p><b>2. The Joint Corp.</b></p>\n<p>Who knew that offering fast and&nbsp;affordable back adjustments would be such a&nbsp;lucrative&nbsp;business model? That's exactly what&nbsp;<b>The Joint Corp.</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:JYNT)is doing. The nationwide franchisor and operator of&nbsp;666&nbsp;chiropractic clinics has been growing at a breathtaking pace. A decade ago, the company had just 26 locations.</p>\n<p>After reaching an all-time high of $107.30 in early September, the stock has crashed over 40%. Even so, the price is up 135% year to date. This company does away with the traditional, insurance-based structure by letting patients walk in (no appointment needed) and receive quick and effective treatment from a licensed chiropractor. At $29, a visit here is often lower than co-pays at independent chiropractor offices.</p>\n<p>The model is working. Same-store sales for locations open at least four years jumped 21%&nbsp;in the latest quarter. And with annual spending on back pain in the U.S. estimated to be $134 billion, there is a massive market opportunity. The Joint's trailing-12-month revenue totaled $75 million.</p>\n<p>Management is confident the company can one day have 1,800 locations in the U.S., almost triple its current footprint. With 295 clinics in active development and 132 franchise licenses sold in the first nine months of 2021, The Joint is well on its way to bringing chiropractic care to the masses.</p>\n<p><b>3. Roku</b></p>\n<p>Perhaps the biggest shocker on this list is&nbsp;<b>Roku</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:ROKU), which has seen its stock&nbsp;shed roughly half of its value&nbsp;since July. Some challenges, including missing Wall Street's sales estimates in the third quarter plus supply-chain bottlenecks, are certainly pressuring the stock. But I still firmly believe that the long-term outlook for Roku is intact.</p>\n<p>This top streaming business is attractive not because of its media sticks, which have actually been sold at a loss in the past two quarters, but because of its burgeoning platform segment. This is where high-margin advertising and subscription fees are. In the most recent quarter, the platform business represented 86%&nbsp;of total revenue, a figure that has steadily increased over time.</p>\n<p>Roku's 56.4&nbsp;million active accounts streamed 18 billion hours of content in the latest three-month period. But what really stood out was the average revenue per user of $40.10. The monster success of The Roku Channel, now a top-five channel on the platform, has further helped ad revenue. This allows even greater investment in content (including 50 new original series planned over the next two years), bringing in new viewers.</p>\n<p>The management team, led by CEO Anthony Wood, thinks that streaming is the future of video entertainment. The ongoing decline of cable-TV subscribers makes this trend undeniable. For Nvidia, Rasgon sees strong catalysts and a stronger narrative unfolding as the company continues to monetize and expand its software offerings while benefiting from growing metaverse interest and investment.</p>\n<p>On the other side of the equation, a low P/E ratio isn’t a reason to buy a stock, but it’s often a good place to start a search. And there are a few bargains in the semiconductor sector. That’s why <i>Barron’s</i> screened for the 13 cheapest stocks in the Sox index based on price to estimated 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p><b>Cheap Chips</b></p>\n<p>These are the cheapest stocks in the PHLX Semiconductor Sector index based on price to estimated 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/829812482595377c053e5ac2b6b38e12\" tg-width=\"1097\" tg-height=\"593\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Source: Bloomberg</span></p>\n<p>Memory chip firm&nbsp;Micron Technology&nbsp;(MU) is the cheapest chip stock in the pack, trading at 8.2 times forward earnings. Earlier this week, the firm reported strong results and released a better-than-expected forecast for the current forecast. The stock has returned 26% so far this year.</p>\n<p>Chip product packaging and test services provider&nbsp;Amkor Technology&nbsp;(AMKR) is second, trading at 9.3 times 2022 earnings estimates. The midcap chip stock has returned 55% in 2021.</p>\n<p>Qorvo&nbsp;(QRVO) and&nbsp;Skyworks Solutions,both suppliers for&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;(AAPL), trade at 11.6 and 12 times forward earnings, respectively. Both stocks have lagged behind their peers, down 7.9% and up 2.2% this year, respectively.</p>\n<p>The fifth cheapest stock in the bunch is&nbsp;Intel&nbsp;(INTC), which Rasgon says is a good example of a cheap, but not necessarily attractive stock. Rasgon said CEO Paul&nbsp;Gelsinger isn’t necessarily doing the wrong thing investing billions in turnaround efforts, but he’s bearish on the stock overall.</p>\n<p>“He’s trying to fix 10 years of sin,” Rasgon said. “These are problems that didn’t just show up last quarter, they’ve been building for 10 years. And it’s going to take five to 10 years to fix it. Earlier this week, the firm reported strong results and released a better-than-expected forecast for the current forecast. The stock has returned 26% so far this year.\nChip product packaging and test services provider Amkor Technology (AMKR) is second, trading at 9.3 times 2022 earnings estimates. The midcap chip stock has returned 55% in 2021.\nQorvo (QRVO) and Skyworks Solutions,both suppliers for Apple (AAPL), trade at 11.6 and 12 times forward earnings, respectively. Both stocks have lagged behind their peers, down 7.9% and up 2.2% this year, respectively.\nThe fifth cheapest stock in the bunch is Intel (INTC), which Rasgon says is a good example of a cheap, but not necessarily attractive stock. Rasgon said CEO Paul Gelsinger isn’t necessarily doing the wrong thing investing billions in turnaround efforts, but he’s bearish on the stock overall.\n“He’s trying to fix 10 years of sin,” Rasgon said. “These are problems that didn’t just show up last quarter, they’ve been building for 10 years. And it’s going to take five to 10 years to fix it.
