The omicron coronavirus variant, soaring inflation, and the possibility of interest rate hikes next year are all causing uncertainty for investors today.
\n
Opportunities to buy outstanding businesses at significant discounts to their recent highs are rare. Now is not the time to abandon your long-term investing strategy. Instead, take a look at the following stocks as potential additions to your portfolio right now.
\n
1. Etsy
\n
The first stock you should consider is online marketplace Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY). It's down 26% in the past month as investors worry that the pandemic-induced surge in demand for its unique goods will fade with economies slowly reopening. But if we zoom out and focus on the bigger picture, Etsy is doing just fine.
\n
The platform generated $3.1 billion in gross merchandise sales (GMS) in the third quarter, up 17.9% over the year-ago period. This was all the more impressive given that a year ago GMS shot up 119%. The ecosystem is robust and growing with 96 million active buyers and 7.5 million active sellers, both of which are up substantially on a sequential basis.
\n
Over the past 12 months, Etsy's profit margin was a superb 21.6%. And the business is a cash cow, producing $584 million in free cash flow during that time. That leaves lots of room to potentially buy back stock, further boosting earnings per share.
\n
The stock has been a massive outperformer, skyrocketing nearly 1,600% over the past five years. But don't think the party is over for this booming e-commerce business. CEO Josh Silverman has ambitions to create a \"House of Brands\" that will penetrate what the leadership team believes is a $1.7 trillion global opportunity. The recent acquisitions of Depop, a secondhand-fashion reseller, and Elo7, known as the Etsy of Brazil, should help support that vision of growth for the company in the decade ahead.
\n
2. The Joint Corp.
\n
Who knew that offering fast and affordable back adjustments would be such a lucrative business model? That's exactly what The Joint Corp. (NASDAQ:JYNT)is doing. The nationwide franchisor and operator of 666 chiropractic clinics has been growing at a breathtaking pace. A decade ago, the company had just 26 locations.
\n
After reaching an all-time high of $107.30 in early September, the stock has crashed over 40%. Even so, the price is up 135% year to date. This company does away with the traditional, insurance-based structure by letting patients walk in (no appointment needed) and receive quick and effective treatment from a licensed chiropractor. At $29, a visit here is often lower than co-pays at independent chiropractor offices.
\n
The model is working. Same-store sales for locations open at least four years jumped 21% in the latest quarter. And with annual spending on back pain in the U.S. estimated to be $134 billion, there is a massive market opportunity. The Joint's trailing-12-month revenue totaled $75 million.
\n
Management is confident the company can one day have 1,800 locations in the U.S., almost triple its current footprint. With 295 clinics in active development and 132 franchise licenses sold in the first nine months of 2021, The Joint is well on its way to bringing chiropractic care to the masses.
\n
3. Roku
\n
Perhaps the biggest shocker on this list is Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU), which has seen its stock shed roughly half of its value since July. Some challenges, including missing Wall Street's sales estimates in the third quarter plus supply-chain bottlenecks, are certainly pressuring the stock. But I still firmly believe that the long-term outlook for Roku is intact.
\n
This top streaming business is attractive not because of its media sticks, which have actually been sold at a loss in the past two quarters, but because of its burgeoning platform segment. This is where high-margin advertising and subscription fees are. In the most recent quarter, the platform business represented 86% of total revenue, a figure that has steadily increased over time.
\n
Roku's 56.4 million active accounts streamed 18 billion hours of content in the latest three-month period. But what really stood out was the average revenue per user of $40.10. The monster success of The Roku Channel, now a top-five channel on the platform, has further helped ad revenue. This allows even greater investment in content (including 50 new original series planned over the next two years), bringing in new viewers.
\n
The management team, led by CEO Anthony Wood, thinks that streaming is the future of video entertainment. The ongoing decline of cable-TV subscribers makes this trend undeniable. Roku will continue riding this wave as it tackles overseas markets, particularly in Europe and Latin America.
\n
Taking advantage of what the market is giving you today by adding shares in these proven winners, now at steep discounts, could be a game-changer for your portfolio.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Buy While They Are on Sale
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Buy While They Are on Sale\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-24 17:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The market has been particularly harsh to high-growth stocks over recent months, causing major price declines in otherwise solid companies. In September, the Asian Development Bank dropped its 2021 growth forecast for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.
\n
Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.
\n
Grab reported its third-quarter results on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.
\n
Yet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.
\n
There’s Reason for Optimism
\n
The deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.
\n
The ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including DiDi Global(NYSE:DIDI),Toyota(NYSE:TM) and SoftBank’s(OTCMKTS:SFTBY) Vision Fund.
\n
Grab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it will be purchasing Jaya Grocer, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.
\n
This acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.
\n
The Bottom Line on GRAB Stock
\n
I can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.
\n
Of the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.
\n
GRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. At the beginning of December, the company was on course to make only about 83 million to 85 million units in the iPhone 13 range before the end of the year, falling short of the ambitious goal of up to 95 million units it had set to capture the first shopping season after Western economies reopened from COVID-19 lockdowns. Overall, despite reaccelerating production in November, Apple was still falling about 15 million units short of its aim to build 230 million iPhones in total this year, an ambitious goal set at the beginning of 2021, sources said.\nApple told suppliers to reaccelerate their production of the iPhone for November, December and January, after stumbling for the past few months, sources said. Communications in the past two days indicate it hopes to get more than 5 million units closer to its original goal than it expected at the beginning of December. \"Demand for the iPhone 13 range should be able to extend until January next year, as Apple does not want to waste the opportunity to take more ground from Huawei, while Samsung and Xiaomi are suffering from chips and component mismatches,\" said a source with direct knowledge of the conversations.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1311,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":698163912,"gmtCreate":1640319348330,"gmtModify":1640319791811,"author":{"id":"4093782372980910","authorId":"4093782372980910","name":"soonchow","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8df0562c8f53d8e7608ad8b656bac3f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4093782372980910","authorIdStr":"4093782372980910"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/698163912","repostId":"1128727196","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":819,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":696086590,"gmtCreate":1640575109324,"gmtModify":1640575109324,"author":{"id":"4093782372980910","authorId":"4093782372980910","name":"soonchow","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e8df0562c8f53d8e7608ad8b656bac3f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4093782372980910","authorIdStr":"4093782372980910"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696086590","repostId":"1125460593","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1125460593","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1640567926,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1125460593?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-27 09:18","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Hong Kong stocks are closed all day today, and normal trading will resume tomorrow.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1125460593","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Hong Kong stocks are closed all day today, and normal trading will resume tomorrow.","content":"
Hong Kong stocks are closed all day today, and normal trading will resume tomorrow.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from plummeting more than 20% on the day of the merger.
\n
Since then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.
\n
Now, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.
\n
What’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?
\n
Grab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.
\n
There are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.
\n
For starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It now trades at 57.9 times estimated 2022 earnings. That’s pricey, even to the stock’s bulls.
\n
Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon conceded earlier this month that the stock appears expensive on a price-to-earnings basis. But he told Barron’s he still recommends the shares because in tech a high P/E ratio isn’t necessarily a reason to sell a stock. For Nvidia, Rasgon sees strong catalysts and a stronger narrative unfolding as the company continues to monetize and expand its software offerings while benefiting from growing metaverse interest and investment.
\n
On the other side of the equation, a low P/E ratio isn’t a reason to buy a stock, but it’s often a good place to start a search. It now trades at 57.9 times estimated 2022 earnings. That’s pricey, even to the stock’s bulls.\nBernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon conceded earlier this month that the stock appears expensive on a price-to-earnings basis. But he told Barron’s he still recommends the shares because in tech a high P/E ratio isn’t necessarily a reason to sell a stock. For Nvidia, Rasgon sees strong catalysts and a stronger narrative unfolding as the company continues to monetize and expand its software offerings while benefiting from growing metaverse interest and investment.\nOn the other side of the equation, a low P/E ratio isn’t a reason to buy a stock, but it’s often a good place to start a search.
