Let's look closer at one biotech whose shares have been hammered over the past few months, <b>Axsome Therapeutics</b> (NASDAQ:AXSM), and consider why this company still has some serious potential.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e718d88c283ce5cf7cc7b8239f5cdcf4\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>AXSM data by YCharts.</span></p>\n<h2>A series of setbacks</h2>\n<p>Axsome Therapeutics has encountered a couple of regulatory obstacles of late. On July 13, the company announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had decided to rescind the breakthrough designation for AXS-12, a potential treatment for catalepsy (loss of muscle control) in narcolepsy patients. A breakthrough designation helps speed up the review process for drugs intended to treat a severe condition. The FDA's decision came after it approved a competing medicine for catalepsy.</p>\n<p>Then the review of Axsome Therapeutics' application for AXS-05 hit a speed bump. AXS-05 is a potential treatment for major depressive disorder. The FDA had initially set a date for completing its review -- known as the PDUFA goal date -- of Aug. 22.</p>\n<p>But because of deficiencies in the company's application, regulators were unable to complete the review of the drug by this date. The good news is that the FDA did not request additional information from Axsome.&nbsp;The bad news is that we still don't know when the agency will complete its review of the application and what its outcome will be.</p>\n<h2>Why Axsome Therapeutics' shares could soar</h2>\n<p>Despite these issues, Axsome could be a great long-term bet. Let's look at the potential that AXS-05 offers. Depression is a serious issue that affects millions of people, and it has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Before the outbreak, 22 million people in the U.S. showed symptoms of depression. That number has almost quadrupled to 80 million.</p>\n<p>There are certainly existing ways to manage this illness, but AXS-05 could be more effective. The drug significantly reduced symptoms of depression in a phase 3 clinical trial, and the FDA granted it \"priority review\" in this indication. The agency reserves the \"priority review\" designation for drugs that would be an improvement over current therapy options for an illness.</p>\n<p>Axsome Therapeutics expects peak sales of between $1 billion and $3 billion in the U.S. for AXS-05 in this indication were it to be approved. The drug is also being investigated as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease agitation (aggressive and erratic behavior), an indication that could bring the company $3 billion in sales.</p>\n<p>True, the current regulatory issues surrounding this drug render its future uncertain, but Axsome isn't a one-trick pony.&nbsp;The company has several other promising pipeline programs. There is AXS-07, an investigational therapy for migraines. Axsome recently announced that the FDA had accepted its application for this drug and set a PDUFA goal date of April 30, 2022. Peak sales for this medicine could be between $500 million and $1 billion, according to the company.</p>\n<p>Axsome's potential treatment for narcolepsy, AXS-12, with peak annual sales of $1 billion, also needs to be factored into the company's outlook. While the proposed drug lost its \"breakthrough\" designation, it remains under FDA consideration.</p>\n<h2>Bargain hunters need not look elsewhere</h2>\n<p>With Axsome's market capitalization standing at $1.2 billion, investors appear to have little faith the company can generate the kind of sales it predicts from its programs -- and they could be right. There are certainly regulatory risks to consider.</p>\n<p>On the positive side, Axsome had a cash and equivalents balance of $141.2 million. That, combined with capital remaining from a $225 million term-loan facility it secured in September 2020, should be enough to fund operations until at least 2024, according to management.</p>\n<p>Given the biotech company's current valuation and potential pipeline, it could provide explosive gains for investors who get in at these levels. However, be advised: There will be lots of volatility along the way. Let's look closer at one biotech whose shares have been hammered over the past few months, Axsome Therapeutics (NASDAQ:AXSM), and consider why this company still has some serious potential.\nAXSM data by YCharts.\nA series of setbacks\nAxsome Therapeutics has encountered a couple of regulatory obstacles of late. On July 13, the company announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had decided to rescind the breakthrough designation for AXS-12, a potential treatment for catalepsy (loss of muscle control) in narcolepsy patients. A breakthrough designation helps speed up the review process for drugs intended to treat a severe condition. The FDA's decision came after it approved a competing medicine for catalepsy.\nThen the review of Axsome Therapeutics' application for AXS-05 hit a speed bump. AXS-05 is a potential treatment for major depressive disorder. The FDA had initially set a date for completing its review -- known as the PDUFA goal date -- of Aug. 22.\nBut because of deficiencies in the company's application, regulators were unable to complete the review of the drug by this date. The good news is that the FDA did not request additional information from Axsome. The bad news is that we still don't know when the agency will complete its review of the application and what its outcome will be.\nWhy Axsome Therapeutics' shares could soar\nDespite these issues, Axsome could be a great long-term bet. Let's look at the potential that AXS-05 offers. Depression is a serious issue that affects millions of people, and it has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Before the outbreak, 22 million people in the U.S. showed symptoms of depression. That number has almost quadrupled to 80 million.\nThere are certainly existing ways to manage this illness, but AXS-05 could be more effective. The drug significantly reduced symptoms of depression in a phase 3 clinical trial, and the FDA granted it \"priority review\" in this indication. The agency reserves the \"priority review\" designation for drugs that would be an improvement over current therapy options for an illness.\nAxsome Therapeutics expects peak sales of between $1 billion and $3 billion in the U.S. for AXS-05 in this indication were it to be approved. The drug is also being investigated as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease agitation (aggressive and erratic behavior), an indication that could bring the company $3 billion in sales.\nTrue, the current regulatory issues surrounding this drug render its future uncertain, but Axsome isn't a one-trick pony. The company has several other promising pipeline programs. There is AXS-07, an investigational therapy for migraines. Axsome recently announced that the FDA had accepted its application for this drug and set a PDUFA goal date of April 30, 2022. Peak sales for this medicine could be between $500 million and $1 billion, according to the company.\nAxsome's potential treatment for narcolepsy, AXS-12, with peak annual sales of $1 billion, also needs to be factored into the company's outlook. While the proposed drug lost its \"breakthrough\" designation, it remains under FDA consideration.\nBargain hunters need not look elsewhere\nWith Axsome's market capitalization standing at $1.2 billion, investors appear to have little faith the company can generate the kind of sales it predicts from its programs -- and they could be right. There are certainly regulatory risks to consider.\nOn the positive side, Axsome had a cash and equivalents balance of $141.2 million. That, combined with capital remaining from a $225 million term-loan facility it secured in September 2020, should be enough to fund operations until at least 2024, according to management.\nGiven the biotech company's current valuation and potential pipeline, it could provide explosive gains for investors who get in at these levels. However, be advised: There will be lots of volatility along the way. It did not, however, spur an extreme reordering in trader sentiment, and to some of Wall Street’s old guard that’s worrisome.</p>\n<p>While the S&amp;P 500 posted its worst monthly performance since March 2020, there was no sign of the kind of cathartic surrender that contrarians look for in trying to call bottoms. Amid another early-week selloff, hedge funds tracked by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. were only “modest” sellers. On Tuesday, when the benchmark suffered its biggest drop in four months, outflows from equity exchange-traded funds trickled to only a fraction of what had been seen the week before.</p>\n<p>At the same time, the hand-over-fist buying sprees that marked exits from past dips were also not in evidence. Retail traders backed away from their favorite speculative instrument. The S&amp;P 500 approached 4,385 twice on Thursday before turning lower. The failure came one day after the level -- which acted as ceiling in July and then served as support in August --thwarted the index’s four breakout attempts.</p>\n<p>“Until we see a washout or impulsive buying, a move to the 200 DMA on the S&amp;P 500 can’t be ruled out,” said John Kolovos, chief technical strategist at Macro Risk Advisors. The index’s 200-day moving average sat near 4,135, a 4% decline from its last close.</p>\n<p>Stocks have tumbled as surging bond yields prompted investors to flee richly valued technology shares. Adding to the list of worries are concern about the government debt ceiling, rising political static around the Federal Reserve and supply chain disruptions.</p>\n<p>But panic was absent during the worst day of the carnage. On Tuesday, when the S&amp;P 500 tumbled 2%, short sales from hedge funds were flat, as opposed to Sept. 20, when a smaller decline triggered a 5.5% jump in bearish positions, client data compiled by Goldman show. And exchange-traded fund outflows that day reached $1.7 billion, trailing the $12 billion withdrawals seen from Sept. 20, according to Bloomberg data.</p>\n<p>Underpinning Tuesday’s selloff were systematic traders who allocate assets based on volatility, according to Nomura Securities strategist Charlie McElligott. He estimated that volatility control funds and targeted risk strategies likely slashed equity holdings by $35 billion on that day alone.</p>\n<p>Broadly, fear has yet to reach levels that flag a buying opportunity. Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research, says one gauge he monitors is the Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX. The gauge peaked at 25.7 this month, short of the reading of 36 that typically signals what he calls a “tradable low.”</p>\n<p>“We’re waiting for better levels before we get tactically bullish again,” Colas said. “We recommend long term investors steel themselves for a difficult few weeks to come.”</p>\n<p>The usual dip buyers were not enthusiastic either. Retail investors, one of the bull market’s biggest allies, has curbed their buying of bullish options while raising wagers against stocks.</p>\n<p>In fact, one trader just put out a massive hedging position via options to protect a portfolio of stocks in the event that the S&amp;P 500’s losses snowball toward 20% during the fourth quarter.</p>\n<p>To Matt Maley, chief market strategist for Miller Tabak + Co., the market is likely to follow the pattern from a year ago, when the jump in Treasury yields sent the S&amp;P 500 toward a 10% correction. And with the Fed turning more hawkish on monetary policy, investors had better get ready for bigger turmoil, he said.</p>\n<p>“We believe the correction will likely be a deeper one,” Maley said. “This year, the Fed is on the cusp of tapering back on their massive QE program and starting to talk about raising rates sooner than the market has been pricing in. Established via Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC), a buying frenzy has taken DWAC from $10/share to over $130/share, following a deal announced on October 20, 2021. Trump Media &amp; Technology Group will combine with DWAC to launch a new social network called TRUTH Social, a deal valuing the media company at approximately $875 million.</p>\n<p>DWAC lacks fundamentals because it has no revenues or earnings - like all SPACs, it is a shell company established to raise capital through IPO. Like meme stocks, SPACs thrive on investor craze and are often driven by FOMO (fear of missing out). It is a real thing! So, as the Head of Quantitative Strategy at Seeking Alpha, sentiment is certainly among the data points I monitor.</p>\n<p>For those of us who are inclined towards long-term investing, however, sentiment is a pretty poor predictor of long-term price performance. Fundamentals do matter. And from a valuation perspective, SPACs - like meme stocks - are risky investments. The difference is meme stocks are viewed as emerging growth stocks from dying industries, but at least they have a track record, history, and fundamentals. SPACs are not profitable on the opposite end because they are newly formed and have no operating history. (DWAC), the SPAC merging with Donald Trump's new and public social-media platform. Established via Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC), a buying frenzy has taken DWAC from $10/share to over $130/share, following a deal announced on October 20, 2021. Trump Media & Technology Group will combine with DWAC to launch a new social network called TRUTH Social, a deal valuing the media company at approximately $875 million.\nDWAC lacks fundamentals because it has no revenues or earnings - like all SPACs, it is a shell company established to raise capital through IPO. Like meme stocks, SPACs thrive on investor craze and are often driven by FOMO (fear of missing out). It is a real thing! So, as the Head of Quantitative Strategy at Seeking Alpha, sentiment is certainly among the data points I monitor.\nFor those of us who are inclined towards long-term investing, however, sentiment is a pretty poor predictor of long-term price performance. Fundamentals do matter. And from a valuation perspective, SPACs - like meme stocks - are risky investments. The difference is meme stocks are viewed as emerging growth stocks from dying industries, but at least they have a track record, history, and fundamentals. SPACs are not profitable on the opposite end because they are newly formed and have no operating history. But SPACs are all the craze because they are new and forward-thinking companies establishing cutting-edge offerings, businesses, and business models.\nMany SPACs form without an underlying company. They are private equity-backed IPOs that can circumvent the traditional IPO process in a low-cost expedited fashion and require less syndication from investment banks; they tend to ride the wave of more of a high-flying IPO than meme stocks. Once a SPAC prices its stock, they typically list at $10, as evidenced by DWAC.\nMany investors believe all meme stocks and SPACs will go to the moon when they actually follow the trajectory of a recent flight to space conducted by a former SPAC, Virgin Galactic (SPCE), which only lasted about 12 minutes. SPACs may have their day in the sun now; they're usually short-lived! It's a cautionary tale of why sentiment, and the stock momentum it produces, need to be balanced with other factors of long-term performance: value, growth, profitability, and analyst estimates. The reason is Snowflake's tools are better at some key tasks, such as letting companies compile, view, analyze and share massive amounts of data in an easy way.</p>\n<p>Nearly two-fifths of Fortune 500 companies use Snowflake's software in the cloud as they move away from on-premise data warehousing products from<b>Teradata</b>(TDC),<b>Oracle</b>(ORCL) and<b>IBM</b>(IBM).</p>\n<p>One Snowflake customer is pharma giant<b>Pfizer</b>(PFE). Pfizer uses Snowflake tools to forecast product sales and to gain insights into thedistribution of the Covid-19 vaccine.</p>\n<p>Snowflake Stock: Competition Increasing From Google Cloud?</p>\n<p>Stellar customer growth enabled SNOW stock to pull off the largest initial public offering ever by a software company in September 2020. The IPO raised $3.4 billion.</p>\n<p>But is Snowflake a buy right now? After a tough start to 2021, software growth stocks have rebounded. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF rose 5% in August, 3.4% in July and 8.7% in June.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock has out-performed the software sector since mid-May. It's up 13% in 2021.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock hit an all-time high of 429 in early December last year. But SNOW stock swooned in late 2020 amid analyst concerns over its lofty valuation.</p>\n<p>At a June 10 analyst day, Snowflake laid out a path to $10 billion in product revenue by fiscal 2029, which coincides with calendar 2028. The $10 billion revenue target would result in a compound annual growth rate of 44%.</p>\n<p>The company said it expects to increase the number of customers with over $1 million in product revenue. Snowflake also guided to long-term operating margin of 10%-plus, lower than some analysts expected.</p>\n<p>Possible Threat From Amazon</p>\n<p>Snowflake in July announced support for digital advertising standard Unified ID 2.0. Advertising is one of Snowflake's largest verticals with customers representing a large percentage of players in the space, noted a RBC Capital report. The move comes as Googlephases out internet cookies for targeted advertising.</p>\n<p>Whether Amazon Web Services ratchets up competition remains a concern for SNOW stock. Plus, competition with privately held Databricks is heating up. A February funding roundvalued Databricks at $28 billion.</p>\n<p>Databricks, which usesartificial intelligence, is expected to launch its own IPO.<b>Hewlett Packard Enterprise</b>(HPE), with its GreenLake platform, is another rival.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock bulls point to its seasoned management team as a strength no matter what unfolds.</p>\n<p>Two former Oracle engineers — Benoit Dageville and Thierry Cruanes — along with Marcin Zukowski, former chief executive of startup Vectorwise, started Snowflake in 2012. The company holds patents in database architecture, data warehouses and other areas.</p>\n<p>SNOW Stock: ServiceNow Veterans Lead Company</p>\n<p>Snowflake brought inFrank Slootman as chief executive&nbsp;in May 2019. Slootman had stepped down as CEO of ServiceNow in early 2017. Former ServiceNow Chief Financial Officer Mike Scarpelli in 2019 also joined Snowflake in the same CFO position.</p>\n<p>Unlike legacy, on-premise data management systems, Snowflake's platform was built from the ground up for cloud computing. It provides 100% of its software over the internet.</p>\n<p>Snowflake customers can share data with their partners across multiple online storage systems using the company's data warehouse. Snowflake also enables easily searchable data to be shared among applications.</p>\n<p>Snowflake's data analytics tools became available on Amazon Web Services in 2015, Microsoft's Azure in 2018 and on Google's cloud platform in 2020.</p>\n<p>In June, Snowflake partnered with<b>C3.ai</b>(AI). The two companies will cooperate in offering artificial intelligence tools to companies.</p>\n<p>Amazon Web Services A 'Frenemy'</p>\n<p>\"While Snowflake is multi-cloud, it derives some 85% of its revenues from data analytics jobs deployed on Amazon Web Services, which is also Snowflake's biggest rival with AWS Redshift,\" UBS analyst Karl Keirstead said in a recent note to clients.</p>\n<p>\"This 'frenemy' relationship is critical to Snowflake's success,\" Keirstead went on to say. \"AWS benefits far more from Snowflake spending on compute and storage infrastructure resources than they lose in the form of foregone AWS Redshift revenues. Snowflake represents a dream customer and partner for AWS and Microsoft Azure.\"</p>\n<p>Snowflake has focused on six core markets, including financial services, health care and life sciences, retail and consumer packaged goods, advertising media and entertainment, technology, and the government sector.</p>\n<p>When Snowflake went public in September it used a dual-class share structure that gave its CEO and insiderssuper-voting rights. However, Snowflake eliminated the dual-class structure in March.</p>\n<p>Snowflake had been based in San Mateo, Calif. Amid the shift to remote work spurred by the coronavirus emergency, Snowflake in May said it no longer has a corporate headquarters. It designated Bozeman, Mont., as its principal executive office. Slootman and Scarpelli are based in Bozeman.</p>\n<p>Snowflake Stock Fundamental Analysis</p>\n<p>Software stocks typically trade as a multiple of forward-looking revenue growth. Software-as-a-service, or SaaS, companies, such as<b>Salesforce.com</b>(CRM), typically provide the highest revenue growth. Salesforce is a key marketing partner of SNOW stock.</p>\n<p>Snowflake also partners with consulting firms such as Deloitte and information technology firms such as privately held Informatica.</p>\n<p>Snowflake is not an SaaS company, however. Instead, it uses a consumption-based business model based on how much data its customers crunch and store.</p>\n<p>Snowflake's revenue growth stands out. But there's less transparency and predictability than with subscription-based, recurring-revenue SaaS business models, analysts say.</p>\n<p>\"SNOW has a consumption model, whereby customers contract for a certain amount of compute and storage capacity,\" Mizuho Securities analyst Gregg Moskowitz said in a note. \"The company only records revenue, however, as that capacity is used, so there can be a lag of several months or more before revenue recognition begins.\"</p>\n<p>Snowflake is nearing an annual revenue run-rate of $1 billion. That's a big milestone for software growth companies. But SNOW stock is unprofitable on the two most common accounting standards.</p>\n<p>Many software companies are unprofitable using GAAP earnings, or generally accepted accounting principles, which includes stock-based compensation. But they're profitable on a non-GAAP or \"adjusted\" earnings basis.</p>\n<p>Snowflake Stock Gains Traction In Large Deals</p>\n<p>Snowflake's July quarter decelerated from the previous quarter but topped analyst estimates as it gained traction with large deals in the financial services and healthcare markets.</p>\n<p>Snowflake said July-quarter revenue jumped 104% to $272.2 million from a year earlier. Analysts had estimated Snowflake revenue of $256.5 million.</p>\n<p>Snowflake sales soared 110% in the April quarter and 117% in the January quarter.</p>\n<p>The provider of cloud-based data analytics software said product revenue rose 103% to $254.6 million vs. estimates of $240 million.</p>\n<p>In addition, Snowflake said it now has 116 customers with \"trailing 12-month product revenue greater than $1 million,\" up from 104 such customers as of April 30.</p>\n<p>\"SNOW stock ended the quarter with 12 net new $1 million-plus customers (vs. 27 last quarter, 8 a year ago), bringing total $1 million-plus customers to 116,\" said Cowen analyst J. Derrick Wood in a report. \"Management cited strength come from rising deal sizes, strong competitive win rates, high sales productivity levels and balanced demand across geographies, customer segments and verticals. SNOW's recent vertically-focused, go-to-market initiatives are resonating particularly well in financial services and healthcare.\"</p>\n<p>For the October quarter, Snowflake forecast product revenue in a range of $280 million to $285 million, above estimates of $270.5 million.</p>\n<p>SNOW Stock Technical Analysis</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock went public on Sept. 16, 2020, at 120 a share. At the time, software growth stocks were hot as investors sought recurring revenue amid the coronavirus emergency.</p>\n<p>SNOW stock popped as high as 319 on the first day of trading and closed 111.6% above the IPO price at 253.93. Shares pulled back as analysts debated Snowflake's valuation.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock forged acup-with-handle baseover the next two months. The new base created an entry point of 301. SNOW stock blew past the buy point, hitting an all-time high of 429 on Dec. 8.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock swooned in late 2020 amid questions over its valuation even as the IBD Computer-Software Enterprise group stayed resilient. The Computer-Software Enterprise group did not break down until mid-February amid a market rotation to value.</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock hit a 12-month low of 184.71 on May 13.</p>\n<p>Is Snowflake Stock A Buy Right Now?</p>\n<p>Snowflake stock still trades at a substantial premium as a multiple of forward-looking revenue growth. SNOW stock holds anIBD Composite Ratingof&nbsp; 53 out of a best possible 99, according toIBD Stock Checkup.</p>\n<p>IBD's Composite Rating combines five separate proprietary ratings into one easy-to-use rating. The best growth stocks have a Composite Rating of 90 or better.</p>\n<p>One bright spot is that Snowflake stock owns an Accumulation/Distribution Rating of B, according toIBD MarketSmithanalysis. That rating analyzes price and volume changes in a stock over the past 13 weeks of trading.</p>\n<p>The rating, on an A+ to E scale, measures institutional buying and selling in a stock. A+ signifies heavy institutional buying; E means heavy selling. Think of the C grade as neutral.</p>\n<p>SNOW stock has yet toform a basewith a proper entry point. Snowflake stock has clawed above its 50-day moving average. The IPO raised $3.4 billion.\nBut is Snowflake a buy right now? After a tough start to 2021, software growth stocks have rebounded. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF rose 5% in August, 3.4% in July and 8.7% in June.\nSnowflake stock has out-performed the software sector since mid-May. It's up 13% in 2021.\nSnowflake stock hit an all-time high of 429 in early December last year. But SNOW stock swooned in late 2020 amid analyst concerns over its lofty valuation.\nAt a June 10 analyst day, Snowflake laid out a path to $10 billion in product revenue by fiscal 2029, which coincides with calendar 2028. The $10 billion revenue target would result in a compound annual growth rate of 44%.\nThe company said it expects to increase the number of customers with over $1 million in product revenue. Snowflake also guided to long-term operating margin of 10%-plus, lower than some analysts expected.\nPossible Threat From Amazon\nSnowflake in July announced support for digital advertising standard Unified ID 2.0. Advertising is one of Snowflake's largest verticals with customers representing a large percentage of players in the space, noted a RBC Capital report. The move comes as Googlephases out internet cookies for targeted advertising.\nWhether Amazon Web Services ratchets up competition remains a concern for SNOW stock. Plus, competition with privately held Databricks is heating up. A February funding roundvalued Databricks at $28 billion.\nDatabricks, which usesartificial intelligence, is expected to launch its own IPO.Hewlett Packard Enterprise(HPE), with its GreenLake platform, is another rival.\nSnowflake stock bulls point to its seasoned management team as a strength no matter what unfolds.\nTwo former Oracle engineers — Benoit Dageville and Thierry Cruanes — along with Marcin Zukowski, former chief executive of startup Vectorwise, started Snowflake in 2012. The company holds patents in database architecture, data warehouses and other areas.\nSNOW Stock: ServiceNow Veterans Lead Company\nSnowflake brought inFrank Slootman as chief executive in May 2019. Slootman had stepped down as CEO of ServiceNow in early 2017. Former ServiceNow Chief Financial Officer Mike Scarpelli in 2019 also joined Snowflake in the same CFO position.\nUnlike legacy, on-premise data management systems, Snowflake's platform was built from the ground up for cloud computing. It provides 100% of its software over the internet.\nSnowflake customers can share data with their partners across multiple online storage systems using the company's data warehouse. Snowflake also enables easily searchable data to be shared among applications.\nSnowflake's data analytics tools became available on Amazon Web Services in 2015, Microsoft's Azure in 2018 and on Google's cloud platform in 2020.\nIn June, Snowflake partnered withC3.ai(AI). The two companies will cooperate in offering artificial intelligence tools to companies.\nAmazon Web Services A 'Frenemy'\n\"While Snowflake is multi-cloud, it derives some 85% of its revenues from data analytics jobs deployed on Amazon Web Services, which is also Snowflake's biggest rival with AWS Redshift,\" UBS analyst Karl Keirstead said in a recent note to clients.\n\"This 'frenemy' relationship is critical to Snowflake's success,\" Keirstead went on to say. \"AWS benefits far more from Snowflake spending on compute and storage infrastructure resources than they lose in the form of foregone AWS Redshift revenues. Snowflake represents a dream customer and partner for AWS and Microsoft Azure.\"\nSnowflake has focused on six core markets, including financial services, health care and life sciences, retail and consumer packaged goods, advertising media and entertainment, technology, and the government sector.\nWhen Snowflake went public in September it used a dual-class share structure that gave its CEO and insiderssuper-voting rights. However, Snowflake eliminated the dual-class structure in March.\nSnowflake had been based in San Mateo, Calif. Amid the shift to remote work spurred by the coronavirus emergency, Snowflake in May said it no longer has a corporate headquarters. It designated Bozeman, Mont., as its principal executive office. Slootman and Scarpelli are based in Bozeman.\nSnowflake Stock Fundamental Analysis\nSoftware stocks typically trade as a multiple of forward-looking revenue growth. Software-as-a-service, or SaaS, companies, such asSalesforce.com(CRM), typically provide the highest revenue growth. Salesforce is a key marketing partner of SNOW stock.\nSnowflake also partners with consulting firms such as Deloitte and information technology firms such as privately held Informatica.\nSnowflake is not an SaaS company, however. Instead, it uses a consumption-based business model based on how much data its customers crunch and store.\nSnowflake's revenue growth stands out. As readers know, the bond market is showing signs of concern around the D-date, with the T-Bills kink peaking today just after the Oct 18 data.\n\nBut the bigger question is how will Congress extricate itself fromBiden's game of debt ceiling chickenwhich we discussed recently.\nBefore we get into the most likely scenarios, Goldman's Alec Phillips reminds us that a complicating factor is that the House is scheduled to be in recess after Oct. 1 until Oct. 18, and the Senate after Oct. 8 until Oct. 18.  House Democratic leaders already suggested that some of that recess might need to be cancelled, and that looks more likely in light of this deadline.\nSo turning to Congress, following yesterday's failed Senate vote on the continuing resolution (CR) and debt limit suspension, Goldman notes that Democratic leaders will now need to decide whether to bring a \"clean\" CR to the floor that omits the debt limit, something which Nancy Pelosi said this morning is \"the plan\".Goldman thinks that such a vote could happen potentially as soon as today, as it seems to be only way to avoid a shutdown in light of likely continued Republican opposition to a CR paired with a debt limit suspension.\nSo looking at the upcoming calendar, Goldman observes that the main question is whether to extend spending authority until around Oct. 18, aligning the two deadlines, or to pass the same CR the Senate just blocked (minus the debt limit suspension), which lasted until Dec. 3.\nThe former would suggest that Democratic leaders might make another attempt at passing the debt limit with Republican support, which would increase the risks around the issue.  The latter would reduce the risks to the debt limit, as it would suggest that Democratic leaders might plan to increase the debt limit via the reconciliation process.\nThe latter approach also requires some lead time, as it would mean first passing a revised budget resolution in the House and Senate, followed by a reconciliation bill raising the debt limit, which would also need to pass both chambers.According to Phillips, that would likely take at least a week, though the closer to the deadline the process starts, the more likely it is that Republicans would agree to waive some of the required time for debate. If so, Democratic leaders seem incentivized to let the clock run down before
