The ex-dividend d","content":"
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) stock is about to trade ex-dividend in 4 days. The ex-dividend date is one business day before the record date, which is the cut-off date for shareholders to be present on the company's books to be eligible for a dividend payment. It is important to be aware of the ex-dividend date because any trade on the stock needs to have been settled on or before the record date. Therefore, if you purchase Microsoft's shares on or after the 18th of August, you won't be eligible to receive the dividend, when it is paid on the 9th of September.
\n
The company's next dividend payment will be US$0.56 per share, and in the last 12 months, the company paid a total of US$2.24 per share. Calculating the last year's worth of payments shows that Microsoft has a trailing yield of 0.8% on the current share price of $289.81. If you buy this business for its dividend, you should have an idea of whether Microsoft's dividend is reliable and sustainable. That's why we should always check whether the dividend payments appear sustainable, and if the company is growing.
\n
Check out our latest analysis for Microsoft
\n
Dividends are typically paid out of company income, so if a company pays out more than it earned, its dividend is usually at a higher risk of being cut. Microsoft paid out a comfortable 28% of its profit last year. A useful secondary check can be to evaluate whether Microsoft generated enough free cash flow to afford its dividend. It distributed 29% of its free cash flow as dividends, a comfortable payout level for most companies.
\n
It's encouraging to see that the dividend is covered by both profit and cash flow. This generally suggests the dividend is sustainable, as long as earnings don't drop precipitously.
\n
Click here to see the company's payout ratio, plus analyst estimates of its future dividends.
\n
NasdaqGS:MSFT Historic Dividend August 13th 2021
\n
Have Earnings And Dividends Been Growing?
\n
Companies with consistently growing earnings per share generally make the best dividend stocks, as they usually find it easier to grow dividends per share. If earnings fall far enough, the company could be forced to cut its dividend. It's encouraging to see Microsoft has grown its earnings rapidly, up 26% a year for the past five years. Microsoft is paying out less than half its earnings and cash flow, while simultaneously growing earnings per share at a rapid clip. Companies with growing earnings and low payout ratios are often the best long-term dividend stocks, as the company can both grow its earnings and increase the percentage of earnings that it pays out, essentially multiplying the dividend.
\n
The main way most investors will assess a company's dividend prospects is by checking the historical rate of dividend growth. In the past 10 years, Microsoft has increased its dividend at approximately 13% a year on average. It's exciting to see that both earnings and dividends per share have grown rapidly over the past few years.
\n
The Bottom Line
\n
Has Microsoft got what it takes to maintain its dividend payments? We love that Microsoft is growing earnings per share while simultaneously paying out a low percentage of both its earnings and cash flow. These characteristics suggest the company is reinvesting in growing its business, while the conservative payout ratio also implies a reduced risk of the dividend being cut in the future. The ex-dividend date is one business day before the record date, which is the cut-off date for shareholders to be present on the company's books to be eligible for a dividend payment. It is important to be aware of the ex-dividend date because any trade on the stock needs to have been settled on or before the record date. Therefore, if you purchase Microsoft's shares on or after the 18th of August, you won't be eligible to receive the dividend, when it is paid on the 9th of September.\nThe company's next dividend payment will be US$0.56 per share, and in the last 12 months, the company paid a total of US$2.24 per share. Calculating the last year's worth of payments shows that Microsoft has a trailing yield of 0.8% on the current share price of $289.81. If you buy this business for its dividend, you should have an idea of whether Microsoft's dividend is reliable and sustainable. That's why we should always check whether the dividend payments appear sustainable, and if the company is growing.\nCheck out our latest analysis for Microsoft\nDividends are typically paid out of company income, so if a company pays out more than it earned, its dividend is usually at a higher risk of being cut. Microsoft paid out a comfortable 28% of its profit last year. A useful secondary check can be to evaluate whether Microsoft generated enough free cash flow to afford its dividend. It distributed 29% of its free cash flow as dividends, a comfortable payout level for most companies.\nIt's encouraging to see that the dividend is covered by both profit and cash flow. This generally suggests the dividend is sustainable, as long as earnings don't drop precipitously.\nClick here to see the company's payout ratio, plus analyst estimates of its future dividends.\nNasdaqGS:MSFT Historic Dividend August 13th 2021\nHave Earnings And Dividends Been Growing?\nCompanies with consistently growing earnings per share generally make the best dividend stocks, as they usually find it easier to grow dividends per share. Companies with growing earnings and low payout ratios are often the best long-term dividend stocks, as the company can both grow its earnings and increase the percentage of earnings that it pays out, essentially multiplying the dividend.\nThe main way most investors will assess a company's dividend prospects is by checking the historical rate of dividend growth. In the past 10 years, Microsoft has increased its dividend at approximately 13% a year on average. It's exciting to see that both earnings and dividends per share have grown rapidly over the past few years.\nThe Bottom Line\nHas Microsoft got what it takes to maintain its dividend payments? We love that Microsoft is growing earnings per share while simultaneously paying out a low percentage of both its earnings and cash flow. These characteristics suggest the company is reinvesting in growing its business, while the conservative payout ratio also implies a reduced risk of the dividend being cut in the future. It's a promising combination that should mark this company worthy of closer attention.\nWhile it's tempting to invest in Microsoft for the dividends alone, you should always be mindful of the risks involved. For example - Microsoft has 1 warning sign we think you should be aware of.\nA common investment mistake is buying the first interesting stock you see. Here you can find a list of promising dividend stocks with a greater than 2% yield and an upcoming dividend.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":895844178,"gmtCreate":1628735563494,"gmtModify":1633689888975,"author":{"id":"4091759683366290","authorId":"4091759683366290","name":"staciex","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091759683366290","authorIdStr":"4091759683366290"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/895844178","repostId":"1139316023","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1139316023","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1628733063,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1139316023?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-12 09:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Coinbase Admits Its USDC Stablecoin Not Fully Backed By Dollar","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1139316023","media":"Benzinga","summary":"US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global, Inc. admitted that USD Coin (CRYPTO: USDC) — a sta","content":"
US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global, Inc. admitted that USD Coin (CRYPTO: USDC) — a stablecoin that it launched in collaboration with fintech firm Circle — is not fully backed by the United States dollar.
\n
What Happened: Following Circle's disclosure of USD Coin's assets last month, Coinbase walked back on its previous claims about the backing of the coin, admitting that it is not fully backed by United States dollars and editing its website.
\n
According to Bloomberg, the Coinbase website's page dedicated to USDC changed its description from \"backed by one US dollar,\" \"held in a bank account,\" to \"backed by one dollar or asset with equivalent fair value.\"
\n
Circle's report shows that about 61% of its tokens are backed by “cash and cash equivalents,” meaning cash and money market funds.
\n
Another 13% is backed by Yankee Certificates of Deposit issued by non-U.S. banks, U.S. Treasuries account for 12%, commercial paper accounts for 9%, while the rest is backed by municipal and corporate bonds.
\n
Why It's Important: Those assets could experience losses and are less liquid than cash, which could cause trouble if customers ever tried to redeem the stablecoin en masse.
\n
Columbia Law School lecturer Lev Menand pointed out that \"you can’t market a product with falsities\" and claimed that failure to disclose this data constitutes a consumer protection violation.
\n
He highlighted that \"there’s a material difference and a huge amount of evidence that something backed by dollars held in a bank account is different than something backed by things like U.S. Treasuries or corporate paper.”
\n
He has gone as far as to suggest that this could be something that the Federal Trade Commission could investigate since it is tasked with taking action against “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.”
\n
The Centre Consortium — which manages USD Coin's reserves — publishes reserve audit reports. It is important to be aware of the ex-dividend date because any trade on the stock needs to have been settled on or before the record date. That means each of these funds contains around 500 stocks from the largest U.S.-based companies.
\n
This type of investment is one of the more stable and lower-risk options. While the S&P 500 does experience short-term volatility, it's earned an average rate of return of around 10% per year since its inception. In other words, the highs and lows each year average out to around 10% annually over time.
\n
These funds are also very likely to recover from market crashes. The S&P 500 has endured countless corrections and crashes over the years, but it's survived each and every one so far. Although there are never any guarantees in investing, there's a very good chance it will recover from any future crashes as well.
\n
Where to get started: There are many S&P 500 ETFs to choose from, and they're all similar. The advantage of this type of investment is that you may earn higher returns than you would with a broad-market fund like an S&P 500 ETF.
\n
The downside, though, is that growth ETFs can be on the riskier side. High-growth stocks can be more volatile than their more established counterparts, so you may see more ups and downs with this type of fund than you would with an S&P 500 ETF.
\n
That said, many growth ETFs include companies that have experienced phenomenal growth but are also strong businesses, such as Amazon.com, Apple, and Microsoft. These organizations are still subject to volatility in the short term, but it's very likely they'll experience long-term growth.
\n
Where to get started: It's important to choose carefully when investing in a growth ETF, because not all funds are created equal. Some funds only contain smaller organizations from niche industries, for example, which poses more risk than a fund that includes large corporations from a variety of industries. A few of the stronger growth ETFs include:
\n
\n
Vanguard Growth Index Fund ETF Shares
\n
iShares Russell 2000 Growth ETF
\n
NASDAQ-100 Index ETF
\n
\n
3. Most funds also offer the opportunity to reinvest your dividends and buy more shares of that particular ETF. By reinvesting, you can gradually buy more shares without having to pay more money out of pocket. And the more shares you own, the more you'll receive in dividends.
\n
Where to get started: As with growth ETFs, all dividend ETFs are different and offer varying levels of risk and reward. If you're new to the stock market, all of those choices can be overwhelming.\nThe good news is that it's easier than you may think to create a solid core portfolio. These three types of investments are a fantastic choice regardless of where you are on your investing journey, and they can help send your savings to the moon.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. S&P 500 ETFs\nAn S&P 500 ETF is a group of stocks that is designed to mirror the performance of the S&P 500 index itself. That means each of these funds contains around 500 stocks from the largest U.S.-based companies.\nThis type of investment is one of the more stable and lower-risk options. While the S&P 500 does experience short-term volatility, it's earned an average rate of return of around 10% per year since its inception. In other words, the highs and lows each year average out to around 10% annually over time.\nThese funds are also very likely to recover from market crashes. The S&P 500 has endured countless corrections and crashes over the years, but it's survived each and every one so far. Although there are never any guarantees in investing, there's a very good chance it will recover from any future crashes as well.\nWhere to get started: There are many S&P 500 ETFs to choose from, and they're all similar. Some of the best options include:\n\nVanguard S&P 500 ETF \niShares Core S&P 500 ETF \nS&P500 ETF \n\n2. Growth ETFs\nA growth ETF is a fund that contains stocks with higher-than-average growth rates. The advantage of this type of investment is that you may earn higher returns than you would with a broad-market fund like an S&P 500 ETF.\nThe downside, though, is that growth ETFs can be on the riskier side. High-growth stocks can be more volatile than their more established counterparts, so you may see more ups and downs with this type of fund than you would with an S&P 500 ETF.\nThat said, many growth ETFs include companies that have experienced phenomenal growth but are also strong businesses, such as Amazon.com, Apple, and Microsoft. These organizations are still subject to volatility in the short term, but it's very likely they'll experience long-term growth.\nWhere to get started: It's important to choose carefully when investing in a growth ETF, because not all funds are created equal. Some funds only contain smaller organizations from niche industries, for example, which poses more risk than a fund that includes large corporations from a variety of industries. A few of the stronger growth ETFs include:\n\nVanguard Growth Index Fund ETF Shares \niShares Russell 2000 Growth ETF \nNASDAQ-100 Index ETF \n\n3. Dividend ETFs\nA dividend ETF is a collection of stocks that will actually pay you to own them. Some companies pay a portion of their profits back to shareholders each quarter or year, which is called a dividend. By investing in a dividend ETF, you'll earn quarterly or annual dividend payments in addition to the fund's normal earnings.\nBy investing consistently over time, you could build a source of passive income with dividend ETFs. Most funds also offer the opportunity to reinvest your dividends and buy more shares of that particular ETF. By reinvesting, you can gradually buy more shares without having to pay more money out of pocket. And the more shares you own, the more you'll receive in dividends.\nWhere to get started: As with growth ETFs, all dividend ETFs are different and offer varying levels of risk and reward.
