supply-chain disruptions affecting the critical holiday quarter.
\n
The iPhone maker has largely avoided a hit to its financial results during the past year as other firms have struggled with shortages of microprocessors, putting the company in a position to benefit from iPhones that offered faster 5G cellular technology for the first time.
\n
But questions loom about the availability of Apple’s newest smartphone, the iPhone 13, which was introduced last month. There are multiweek waits in some areas for delivery of certain models of the phone and other products. Investors are eager to see if the continued allure of 5G technology and new camera capabilities will help fuel another big year.
\n
“Can they deliver the product?” asked Dan Morgan, a senior portfolio manager who focuses on technology at Synovus Trust Co., which counts Apple among its largest holdings. He remains bullish but wants to know if supply chain challenges could affect orders of the iPhone 13, iPad Mini or other products during the holiday season, he said.
\n
In July, Apple cautioned that iPhone sales would be affected during the company’s fiscal fourth quarter, which ended in September, slowing its rate of growth compared with the third quarter when overall revenue rose 36%. Analysts surveyed by FactSet, on average, expect iPhone sales to help fuel $85 billion in total revenue, a 31% rise from a year earlier.
\n
After the market closes, the company is expected to report $20 billion in profit for the quarter, or $1.24 per share, up from $12.7 billion a year earlier. During the first three quarters of its fiscal 2021, from October 2020 through June of this year, Apple earned $74 billion. That is already far more than what was previously its best entire year, in fiscal 2018, when the company’s profit totaled $58.5 billion.
\n
Chief Executive Tim Cook’s success navigating the turbulent waters of the Covid-19 pandemic helped Apple lead other big tech companies in enjoying outsize profits during uncertain times. That success and broader questions about the power of these tech companies have also put them under scrutiny.
\n
Apple emerged mostly unscathed from an antitrust lawsuit in September brought by Epic Games Inc. that centered on its App Store’s role as the gatekeeper for customers on its iPhones and its required in-app payment system that gives it as much as a 30% cut of digital revenue. Apple and Epic are appealing the ruling.
\n
Investors will be looking closely at the company’s service revenue—which includes sales from the App Store and ads sold through its own nascent advertising network—for any signs that its crackdown on third-party software privacy has helped its own ad business.
\n
Last quarter was the first full period since Apple introduced changes to its mobile software that required third-party apps to receive user permission to track their usage, a key part of the online ad industry. Facebook Inc. this week reported slower revenue growth attributed to Apple’s changes, while Snapchat’s Snap Inc. cautioned last week that it expected growth to slow for the same reason.
\n
Some investors argue that Apple is naturally going to see a tougher year in fiscal 2022 and, to make their case, they point to previous years that followed the company benefiting from hot iPhone introductions that have resulted in larger than normal results. Others see continued momentum from 5G.
\n
Apple is expected to have delivered a record 238 million iPhones in the past fiscal year, according to analysts’ estimates. They expect 233 million this year. The company doesn’t disclose unit sales but, during the first nine months of the fiscal year, iPhone revenue rose 38% to $153 billion. Analysts expect July-to-September iPhone revenue to rise 56% to $41 billion.
\n
The strength of Apple’s other products throughout the Covid-19 pandemic has helped fuel record profits. The company has benefited from workers and students at home wanting new laptops and iPad tablets. Sales of Mac computers are expected to have risen 1.3% in the quarter to $9 billion, while iPads may have risen 6.6% to $7 billion, according to analyst estimates.
\n
Since the pandemic began, disrupting normal operations, Apple has stopped giving detailed guidance. Still, analysts and investors will be looking closely for any hints dropped by Mr. Cook during the company’s conference call with analysts after earnings are released.
\n
Investors will also be looking at how Apple is dealing with rising costs associated with increasing inflation. The newest iPhones didn’t have a starting price jump when revealed in September, though the company has benefited from higher selling prices in part because of deals being offered by cellular phone service providers in the U.S., which are fighting to keep customers.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Expected to Report Results That Mark a Record Year With iPhone 12
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nApple Expected to Report Results That Mark a Record Year With iPhone 12\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-28 22:38 GMT+8 WSJ\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Apple Inc. on Thursday is expected to report record year-end results, including a 12-month profit nearing $100 billion, but some investors are watching closely for signs of supply-chain disruptions ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-aapl-q4-earnings-report-2021-11635390749?siteid=yhoof2","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1173352835","content_text":"Apple Inc. on Thursday is expected to report record year-end results, including a 12-month profit nearing $100 billion, but some investors are watching closely for signs of supply-chain disruptions affecting the critical holiday quarter.\nThe iPhone maker has largely avoided a hit to its financial results during the past year as other firms have struggled with shortages of microprocessors, putting the company in a position to benefit from iPhones that offered faster 5G cellular technology for the first time.\nBut questions loom about the availability of Apple’s newest smartphone, the iPhone 13, which was introduced last month. Here's how to trade the stock from here.\nShares of Apple Report fell $5.10, or 3.31%, to end at $148.97 Friday, as investors digested recent news and prepared for the iPhone event next week.\nOn Sept. 14, the company will hold a virtual event to introduce the new device. Dubbed “California Streaming,” it’s expected that Apple will introduce its new iPhone and Apple Watch.\nHowever, Apple remains in the news for other reasons, too.\nAfter hitting new highs earlier this week, the stock declined Friday after news of a court ruling in its case with Epic Games.\nThat’s alongside a report that was published by well-known Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who made the case that Apple stock is “compelling” ahead of its upcoming event.\nLike I said, it’s a lot of information for investors to digest. Let’s take a look at how the charts are setting up.\nTrading Apple Stock\nDaily chart of Apple stock.\nEach time Apple has reported earnings this year, it has resulted in a selloff. Aggressive bulls can buy this dip ahead of the company’s event on Tuesday.\nIf we break Friday’s low, investors may consider stopping out of the trade and buying on a potentially larger dip down to the 50-day moving average or the $145 area.\nBelow $145 may put the $138 level and the 200-day moving average in play.\nShould Apple trade up through the all-time high at $157.26, the 161.8% extension is in play up near $160. Above that mark could put the $172 to $175 zone on the table, depending on how investors react to the event.\nFor what it’s worth, September is by far Apple’s worst-performing month, up just three of the last 11 years for the month.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":132,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":888327662,"gmtCreate":1631442271156,"gmtModify":1631889711067,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like👍","listText":"Pls like👍","text":"Pls like👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/888327662","repostId":"2166377772","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":101,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":817743101,"gmtCreate":1630992258503,"gmtModify":1631889711078,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good reminder 👍","listText":"Good reminder 👍","text":"Good reminder 👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/817743101","repostId":"1176076920","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":418,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":855394515,"gmtCreate":1635333649293,"gmtModify":1635333649293,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/855394515","repostId":"1139410348","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1139410348","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1635325558,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1139410348?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-27 17:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Buckle Up For Apple’s Earnings Day: Here’s What To Know","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1139410348","media":"Thestreet","summary":"Apple is scheduled to report fiscal Q4 results on Thursday, October 28, after the closing bell – and","content":"
Apple is scheduled to report fiscal Q4 results on Thursday, October 28, after the closing bell – and the Apple Maven will follow all the action via live blog. Today, we look at what investors should expect of the event and discuss what could happen to Apple stock(AAPL) .
\n
Wall Street’s expectations
\n
Analysts expect to see the Cupertino company report revenues of $84.8 billion this time, meaning an increase of a bit more than 30% YOY. Keep in mind that these high levels of growth will be against very easy comps last year that were impacted by COVID-19 and the delayed launch of the iPhone 12.
\n
On earnings, consensus points at EPS of $1.24 vs. a much lower $0.73 this time last year. Fiscal Q4 consensus EPS has inched higher by about a penny in the past few weeks and moved up by around a dime since right before last quarter’s earnings season. Clearly, Wall Street has become progressively more optimistic about Apple’s upcoming earnings report.
\n
It is worth refreshing our memory on Apple’s own guidance for the quarter. This is what CFO Luca Maestri had to say, about three months ago (as paraphrased by the Apple Maven):
\n
\n “No revenue outlook, only directional comments. If COVID-19 impact does not worsen, expect double-digit growth in sales, but lower than the 36% of the June quarter due to FX at three percentage points of drag, services going back to ‘normal’, and supply constraints greater this time on iPhone and iPad. Gross margin 41.5% to 42.5%; Opex $11.3 billion to $11.5 billion; Other income zero; Tax rate 16%.”\n
\n
Key topics of conversation
\n
As usual, the iPhone will likely be a center-of-attention business. Not only do smartphones account for roughly half of Apple’s total revenues, but the segment also seems to have been a beneficiary of two successful product launches in the past 12 months: the 5G-ready iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
\n
I have talked about the iPhone at length recently. First, the “super cycle thesis”seems to be proving right, at least judging by third-party research reports. However, keep in mind the debate around the supply chain challenges, as it could provide clues about device sales in the important holiday quarter.
\n
Services will likely be another hot topic. The bad news is that any potential drag from the App Store debacle may be reflected in the company’s guidance for fiscal first quarter, even if the impact may not be felt in fiscal Q4 results. The better news is that strength in the iPhone and other products could help to propel user engagement and consumption of Apple’s services, something that not even Apple’s management team might have been able to factor into their guidance last quarter.
\n
What to expect of AAPL stock
\n
A few months ago,I did a study on Apple share price behavior ahead of earnings seasons. At the median, AAPL has risen just short of 5% in the two weeks following the announcement of the company’s quarterly results. This is much better than Apple stock’s average two-week performance outside the earnings period – a.k.a. the “control group”. Maybe more importantly to long-term holders of the shares, I think thatreasonable valuations, stabilizing yieldsanda drop in volatilityall conspire in favor of the stock at current levels.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":898,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":854861141,"gmtCreate":1635433431160,"gmtModify":1635433461972,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/854861141","repostId":"1173352835","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":685,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":840916717,"gmtCreate":1635574441851,"gmtModify":1635579792476,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-trading-apps-tank-pboc-095623204.html","listText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-trading-apps-tank-pboc-095623204.html","text":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-trading-apps-tank-pboc-095623204.html","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/840916717","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1142,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":843937309,"gmtCreate":1635791856526,"gmtModify":1635791856580,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls ","listText":"Like pls ","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/843937309","repostId":"2180277678","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2180277678","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1635770909,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2180277678?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-01 20:48","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Wants iPhones to Detect Car Crashes, Auto-Dial 911","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2180277678","media":"The Wall Street Journal","summary":"Safety feature is also planned for Apple Watches expected in 2022, according to company documents\nAp","content":"
Safety feature is also planned for Apple Watches expected in 2022, according to company documents
\n
Apple has been testing the crash-detection feature by collecting data shared anonymously from iPhone and Apple Watch users.
\n
Beginning next year, iPhone users who are in a car accident could have their phone dial 911 automatically.
\n
Apple Inc. plans next year to roll out a product feature called “crash detection” for iPhones and Apple Watches, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the feature.
\n
Crash detection uses data from sensors built into Apple devices including the accelerometer to detect car accidents as they occur, for instance by measuring a sudden spike in gravity, or “g,” forces on impact.
\n
The feature would mark the latest move by Apple and its competitors to use motion-sensor technology to build safety functions into their devices. Street estimates call for revenue of $84.9 billion and earnings of 73 cents a share in the September quarter, and there is every reason to think the company will continue its recent pattern and blow away what are likely conservative analyst expectations. June quarter results beat Street revenue estimates by nearly $10 billion and earnings topped consensus by about 30%.
\n
But the stock is suffering from an assortment of nagging woes that likely won’t be resolved with this week’s earnings report. While it would hardly be shocking to see another strong quarter of iPhone sales, keep in mind that Apple CFO Luca Maestri three months ago warned that component issues were intensifying, with a potential impact in the quarter on iPhone and iPad sales. There have also been repeated recent reports of iPhone 13 shortages, reportedly tied to tight supplies of the camera modules used in the high-end versions of the new phone lineup.
\n
Apple has unveiled a flurry of new products recently, including updated iPhones, Macs, iPads and AirPods, and that should help bolster results for the December quarter. For that period, the Street consensus calls for revenue to jump to $119.7 billion with earnings of $1.41 a share. But since Apple seems unlikely to move off its Covid-era practice of not providing quarterly guidance, nervousness about the holiday quarter will remain.
\n
It’s telling that Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, long one of the Street’s most influential bullish voices on the stock, is telling investors that this week’s earnings report isn’t likely to settle the current debate on Apple—and won’t likely serve as a catalyst for the stock.
\n
To be clear, Huberty expects results to again crush consensus estimates. She expects revenues of $88.2 billion, more than $3 billion above consensus, and she sees continued strength in iPhone, iPads, and Macs.
\n
Street consensus calls for September quarter iPhone revenue of $41.2 billion; revenue of $8.8 billion for iPads; $9.1 billion for Macs; $9.4 billion for wearables, home and accessories; and $17.7 billion for services.
\n
Huberty predicts that estimates will move higher on Thursday’s report, but she doesn’t think that will provide any lift to the stock.
\n
“Investors will be more focused on the December quarter outlook given September results only include a small portion of iPhone 13 shipments,” Huberty writes in a research note. “And while we are constructive on the December quarter outlook despite recent negative supply chain headlines, we don’t expect Apple to provide a formal revenue guidance range.”
\n
Huberty also notes that “a number of important questions” remain regarding both potential changes in the company’s App Store business model and the sustainability of iPhone growth given more difficult comparisons ahead.
\n
“With shares trading just 5% below Apple’s trailing 52-week high, we believe investors are more likely to wait for clarity on these topics before potentially re-engaging,” she writes. “So, while we remain bullish on Apple’s FY22 outlook and expect estimates to move higher post earnings, we just don’t see earnings alone as a material stock catalyst.”
\n
Apple shares on Wednesday fell 0.3% to $148.85.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Reports Earnings Thursday. She expects revenues of $88.2 billion, more than $3 billion above consensus, and she sees continued strength in iPhone, iPads, and Macs.\nStreet consensus calls for September quarter iPhone revenue of $41.2 billion; revenue of $8.8 billion for iPads; $9.1 billion for Macs; $9.4 billion for wearables, home and accessories; and $17.7 billion for services.\nHuberty predicts that estimates will move higher on Thursday’s report, but she doesn’t think that will provide any lift to the stock.\n“Investors will be more focused on the December quarter outlook given September results only include a small portion of iPhone 13 shipments,” Huberty writes in a research note. “And while we are constructive on the December quarter outlook despite recent negative supply chain headlines, we don’t expect Apple to provide a formal revenue guidance range.”\nHuberty also notes that “a number of important questions” remain regarding both potential changes in the company’s App Store business model and the sustainability of iPhone growth given more difficult comparisons ahead.\n“With shares trading just 5% below Apple’s trailing 52-week high, we believe investors are more likely to wait for clarity on these topics before potentially re-engaging,” she writes. “So, while we remain bullish on Apple’s FY22 outlook and expect estimates to move higher post earnings, we just don’t see earnings alone as a material stock catalyst.”\nApple shares on Wednesday fell 0.3% to $148.85.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":648,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":817743101,"gmtCreate":1630992258503,"gmtModify":1631889711078,"author":{"id":"4091022395120960","authorId":"4091022395120960","name":"Andrea88","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091022395120960","authorIdStr":"4091022395120960"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good reminder 👍","listText":"Good reminder 👍","text":"Good reminder 👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/817743101","repostId":"1176076920","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1176076920","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1630991875,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1176076920?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-07 13:17","market":"us","language":"en","title":"New Investor? The company sets industry benchmarks with the well-known productivity applications (like Word and Excel) bundled in its Office 365 subscription. Despite already claiming almost 90% of the business productivity software space, Office 365 is still driving year-over-year revenue growth partially thanks to commercial clients' hiring sprees and increasing revenues per user.
\n
Microsoft also has valuable partnerships with the U.S. Army and other massive enterprise clients for cloud computing and custom VR/AR applications. These factors combined give Facebook the strongest foundation in the industry on which to build a metaverse -- but of course, the company still has to execute.
\n
DocuSign
\n
DocuSign is in its earlier stages of high growth compared to industry giants Microsoft and Facebook. However, if you're looking to buy at least one stock in the speculative growth category, DocuSign is an excellent choice.
\n
The company has been the leader in the e-signature space since before COVID-19 drove even more adoption of work-from-home-friendly digital productivity tools. Now, DocuSign is also growing in new complementary areas like full-cycle contract management, artificial intelligence (AI) that saves companies time and money on legal analysis, and remote digital notarization.
\n
Unlike Microsoft and Facebook, DocuSign has yet to reach GAAP profitability. While owning long-established blue-chip stocks like Microsoft and Facebook is a great idea for reducing your downside risk, buying early-stage growth stocks with strong fundamentals like DocuSign can greatly increase your portfolio's upside potential.
