anyway.</p>\n<p>Apple&nbsp;hosted its much anticipated iPhone 13 launch Tuesday, revealing four new models with starting prices that range from $699 for the iPhone 13 Mini to $1,099 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The new phones have faster processing, battery longevity improvements, additional storage, camera upgrades and new colors — the same type of slight, iterative improvements that have been introduced for years now, while rumored leaps like satellite communications technology and augmented-reality capabilities were nowhere to be found.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The biggest improvements seemed to be in the built-in cameras of the new iPhones and larger storage capacity — including an offered upgrade of up to a terabyte of data in the iPhone Pro Max — but none of the new offerings came close to the magic Apple regularly produced in the iPhone’s first decade. Yet Apple is still expected to sell millions of the new phones, thanks to a combination of the infrastructure it has in place for its vast ecosystem, a pent-up demand from consumers who have not upgraded in a few years, and an assist from telecom giants.</p>\n<p>Apple has introduced plans in the past five years to keep its customers updating their phones, including trade-in programs and subscriptions that allow fans to upgrade to the new iPhone every year while continuing to pay a monthly fee. Apple originally made those moves as subsidies from wireless carriers were being phased out, but now companies such as AT&amp;T Inc.,Verizon Communications Inc.&nbsp;and T-Mobile US Inc.&nbsp;are again offering to make deals on iPhones as they compete to push consumers to higher-cost plans that will take advantage of 5G connectivity<b>.</b></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Those who have not yet taken those deals may be finally ready for an upgrade, especially if they have an older phone and their battery struggles to hold a charge and Apple’s updated operating systems bog down older models.</p>\n<p>“Apple has a substantial installed base waiting to upgrade,” said Anisha Bhatia, senior technology analyst at GlobalData, in an email. “With massive promotions offering the phones for $0 to $100, the iPhone 13 will continue the 5G supercycle that started with the iPhone 12.”</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Dan Ives, a Wedbush Securities analyst, estimated that roughly 250 million iPhone users — out of nearly 1 billion who own Apple’s phones — have not upgraded in more than 3.5 years, calling it a “massive pent-up demand within Apple’s installed base.”</p>\n<p>“With roughly 20% of upgrades anticipated out of China, we are continuing to see robust demand in this key region, which bodes well heading into the iPhone 13 upgrade cycle,” Ives said in a note to clients. “We believe the robust consumer product cycle continues globally for Cook &amp; Co.”</p>\n<p>Amit Daryanani of Evercore ISI agreed.</p>\n<p>“We think the incremental features will make this a compelling product for the 900 million-plus iPhone users who didn’t purchase the iPhone 12, ensuring the iPhone cycle sustains into calendar-year 2022,” he wrote.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Apple appears headed for a rebound in iPhone growth thanks to record holiday sales last year, a needed development as its fastest-growing business faces potentially massive changes amid attention from regulators. The company has reported iPhone sales of more than $153 billion through three quarters of its fiscal year — topping the annual total from each of the two preceding years — and all the new iPhones announced Tuesday are available for preorder and will be available by Sept. 24, putting some sales into the fiscal fourth quarter, ending Sept. 30. </p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Wall Street analysts expect Apple to approach $194.2 billion in iPhone revenue alone this year, according to FactSet, which would total growth of 55.6% from the year-ago period, making it the first annual increase in iPhone sales in three years. Moreover, it trades virtually in line with mean estimates. The bears have talked about its lofty price metrics. For instance, it trades at over 28 times forward sales. Though it may seem that stock has a bloated valuation, when you factor in Palantir’s growth rates, its price metrics are in line with mature tech stocks. The management stated that the company is on track to grow its&nbsp;revenues by at least 30% annually&nbsp;through 2025.</p>\n<p><b>Blow-Out Earnings</b></p>\n<p>Palantir delivered strong second-quarter growth metrics. Its revenues&nbsp;rose 49% year-over-year to $375.6 million, driven mainly by a 90% increase in U.S. commercial revenue. Moreover, its adjusted earnings of 4 cents per share quadrupled and beat consensus estimates by one cent.</p>\n<p>It closed62 deals of $1 million&nbsp;or more in the quarter and 21 deals worth $10 million or more. The encouraging element in the quarter was the company’s ability to expand its commercial clientele. Critics have panned it for its over-reliance on government contracts. Though the contracts with the U.S. government are dependable, they offer limited growth potential. Hence, it has had to tap into the private sector to expand its total addressable market.</p>\n<p>Hence private sector clients are the company’s most promising source of new revenue. Accordingly, Palantir has launched the Foundry for Builders initiative to attract more startups to sign-up to its foundry platform. It’s the company’s biggest push to boost its private sector positioning, and its second-quarter earnings suggest it could work.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, cash flows from operations&nbsp;have totaled $23 million, with an adjusted&nbsp;free cash flow of $50 million. Moreover, it has raised its full-year free cash flow outlook to above $300 million. Revenues are likely to come in at $385 million in the third quarter, above the $380.1 million consensus.</p>\n<p><b>Foundry For Builders</b></p>\n<p>Palantir’s breakthrough in its commercial business has been the story of the second quarter.&nbsp;The 90% growth is staggering, considering how the sector had grown by only 19% in the prior quarter. Naturally, it has a lot to do with Palantir’s Foundry For Builders initiative. Foundry offers a comprehensive suite of big data services to its clients include operational decision-making insights, data integration, AI/ML models, and others.</p>\n<p>Previously the platform was offered to its public sector clients, but that changed in the first quarter. Initially, it plans to target startups linked with its existing client base and then move on to the mass market with the program. Initial sales from these companies are likely to be low, but there’s plenty of room for growth and expansion. If any of these companies hit the big time and expand to bigger markets, Palantir’s revenues are likely to grow exponentially without any additional marketing spend.</p>\n<p><b>Bottomline On PLTR Stock</b></p>\n<p>Palantir is a high-growth data company that has been killing it with its fundamentals. Its public sector contracts provide a steady and reliable revenue stream, while its private sector ventures promise future growth. And even that is well above the long-term average return of the market of roughly 10% annually.</p>\n<p>If your money grows at 10% annually, a $10,000 investment can become about $67,275 in 20 years. But if it grows at 20% annually, you'd end up with around $383,000!</p>\n<p>If you're thinking there must be a catch, you're right -- there is. It's easier said than done to identify today the companies that will have grown phenomenally 20 years from now. Plenty of very promising companies end up doing far worse than expected. So what should you do?</p>\n<p>Well, one good strategy is to invest in a bunch of them, so that the winners have a good chance of far outstripping the losers. Perhaps divide your money among at least 25 promising companies that you've studied and have confidence in. Then aim to hang on to them for at least five years -- because you don't want to bail out as soon as one falters. All great stocks have not gone up in a straight line.</p>\n<h2><b>3. Index funds</b></h2>\n<p>Another solid option for building long-term wealth in the stock market, fairly magically, is the easiest strategy of all -- just park many, most, or all of your long-term dollars in a low-fee broad-market index fund. Even Warren Buffett has recommended index funds for most investors who don't have the time, skill, or interest to study stocks and follow them closely over many years.</p>\n<p>It's not even much of a compromise, investing in index funds -- because they tend to outperform the vast majority of their actively managed mutual fund counterparts. In other words, all those highly paid Wall Street professionals have a hard time beating the overall market. Index funds are a terrific investment.</p>\n<p>However you do it, consider starting to invest in stocks soon -- because most of us need to be amassing a hefty sum to live off in retirement.
