It seems to me that its current levels are an attractive entry point.</p>\n<p>There are several factors that can support a rally in CPNG stock after its consolidation. The South Korean e-commerce giant’s price dip was tied to investors’ concerns about its growth potential. However, there is more clarity on that front now and as healthy growth sustains, the stock is likely to trend higher.</p>\n<p><b>How CPNG Stock Stacks Up Against Its Competitors</b></p>\n<p>Its competitor<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>) has a strong global presence. Similarly,<b>Alibaba</b>(NYSE:<b><u>BABA</u></b>) has a big market share in China, but the company isaccelerating its presencein Southeast Asia through <b>Lazada</b>.</p>\n<p>Aggressive international expansion is also in the cards for Coupang as it strives to outpace its competitors. Coupang is initiating operations in Japan and targeting the Southeast Asian market with an entry into Singapore. This is likely to excite the markets as the company creates visibly sustainable growth.</p>\n<p>It’s worth noting that 70% of Southeast Asia’s population is now online. In 2020, there were 400 million internet users in the region. It seems very likely that Coupang will expand into markets like Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. This will provide ample scope for growth in the next few years.</p>\n<p>Competition is also likely to intensify, but the Asian-Pacific market is big enough to absorb several players. Coupang seems positioned to survive and grow.</p>\n<p><b>Cash Burn Is Not A Concern</b></p>\n<p>In the first quarter of 2021, Coupang saw net revenue of $4.2 billion. This was 74% higher on a year-on-year basis. Furthermore, the company reported 21% growth in active customers to 16 million.</p>\n<p>However, for the same period, the company reported EBITDA loss of $133 million. This would imply a large cash burn, but I don’t see this as a concern for two reasons.</p>\n<p>First and foremost, the company is on a robust growth trajectory. With considerable investments in selling and customer acquisition, cash burn is likely. If growth in revenue and active customers continues, the markets will not see cash burn as a worry.</p>\n<p>Coupang also reported cash and equivalents of $4.3 billion as of March 2021. The company has ample financial flexibility to sustain itself while burning cash. It will also allow Coupang to invest aggressively in international expansion.</p>\n<p>The company also reported net revenue per active customer of $182 in Q1 2020. In the most recent quarter, its revenue per active customer surged to $262. If this momentum continues, the company is on track for healthy cash flows in the coming years.</p>\n<p>Companies like Alibaba, Amazon and <b>JD.com</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>JD</u></b>) have shown that the e-commerce business is a cash cow. Coupang is unlikely to disappoint.</p>\n<p>Recently, there were reports that Coupang might soon announce“an online business specializing in office supplies and other consumer products.” The company is also looking at diversification of its business segments. If the news is indeed true, this will open up another growth opportunity for the company.</p>\n<p><b>Concluding Views</b></p>\n<p>The South Korean e-commerce market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 19.92% through 2025. As a market leader, Coupang is bound to benefit from this growth opportunity.</p>\n<p>At the same time, Coupang seems to be spreading its wings in terms of its locations and and product offerings. This can ensure steady growth in active customers.</p>\n<p>Considering these factors, CPNG stock seems attractive at current levels. Similarly,Alibaba(NYSE:BABA) has a big market share in China, but the company isaccelerating its presencein Southeast Asia through Lazada.\nAggressive international expansion is also in the cards for Coupang as it strives to outpace its competitors. Coupang is initiating operations in Japan and targeting the Southeast Asian market with an entry into Singapore. This is likely to excite the markets as the company creates visibly sustainable growth.\nIt’s worth noting that 70% of Southeast Asia’s population is now online. In 2020, there were 400 million internet users in the region. It seems very likely that Coupang will expand into markets like Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. This will provide ample scope for growth in the next few years.\nCompetition is also likely to intensify, but the Asian-Pacific market is big enough to absorb several players. It will also allow Coupang to invest aggressively in international expansion.\nThe company also reported net revenue per active customer of $182 in Q1 2020. In the most recent quarter, its revenue per active customer surged to $262. If this momentum continues, the company is on track for healthy cash flows in the coming years.\nCompanies like Alibaba, Amazon and JD.com(NASDAQ:JD) have shown that the e-commerce business is a cash cow. Coupang is unlikely to disappoint.\nRecently, there were reports that Coupang might soon announce“an online business specializing in office supplies and other consumer products.” The company is also looking at diversification of its business segments. If the news is indeed true, this will open up another growth opportunity for the company.\nConcluding Views\nThe South Korean e-commerce market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 19.92% through 2025. Kulkarni keeps his Buy rating and $4,075 target price.</p>\n<p>Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney maintains an Outperform rating and $4,500 target price. In the most recent quarter, its revenue per active customer surged to $262. Similarly,Alibaba(NYSE:BABA) has a big market share in China, but the company isaccelerating its presencein Southeast Asia through Lazada.\nAggressive international expansion is also in the cards for Coupang as it strives to outpace its competitors. Coupang is initiating operations in Japan and targeting the Southeast Asian market with an entry into Singapore. This is likely to excite the markets as the company creates visibly sustainable growth.\nIt’s worth noting that 70% of Southeast Asia’s population is now online. In 2020, there were 400 million internet users in the region. It seems very likely that Coupang will expand into markets like Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. This will provide ample scope for growth in the next few years.\nCompetition is also likely to intensify, but the Asian-Pacific market is big enough to absorb several players. In the most recent quarter, its revenue per active customer surged to $262. If this momentum continues, the company is on track for healthy cash flows in the coming years.\nCompanies like Alibaba, Amazon and JD.com(NASDAQ:JD) have shown that the e-commerce business is a cash cow. Strong reports from Alphabet,Snap and Twitter suggest Amazon will post accelerating growth in its underappreciated advertising business. And the strength in the cloud business at Microsoft bodes well for Amazon Web Services.</p>\n<p>Street estimates call for Amazon to post $57.3 billion in online sales, up 25%; $24.8 billion in third-party sellers services, up 36%; $14.3 billion from AWS, up 32%; $7.9 billion in subscription services, up 36%; $7 billion in “other” revenue, which is mostly advertising, up 66%; and $3.9 billion in physical stores revenue, up 3%.</p>\n<p>Plus, there are a couple of other factors at play. This will be the first quarter for Amazon since Jeff Bezos turned over the CEO reins to Andy Jassy. Bezos didn’t typically participate in the company’s quarterly earnings calls with analysts, leaving that job to CFO Brian OIsavky; it remains to be seen if Jassy will make an appearance this year. Also, Amazon finds itself at the heart of the debate—in Washington and elsewhere—over the power of tech companies, and now faces an in-depth investigation by the Federal Trade Commission over its proposed acquisition of the film studio MGM.Amazon has requested that FTC Chair Lina Khan recuse herself from any matters involving Amazon given her past criticisms of the company.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Investors also will be watching for clues on how the company expects the pandemic and a return to a more normal economy will impact results for the rest of the year. Street estimates for the September quarter call for revenue of $118.6 billion and profits of $12.97 a share.</p>\n<p>In a research note, MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni points out that Amazon has underperformed both Alphabet and Facebook shares this year. He thinks the stock has been weighed down by ongoing debate about the true strength of this year’s Prime Day sales event, as well as ongoing questions about the outlook for e-commerce as supplemental U.S. unemployment benefits lapse in September. Nonetheless, Kulkarni thinks that advertising, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and AWS will together drive upside to both second-quarter results and guidance, and he continues to consider Amazon his best pick among the big internet stocks. Kulkarni keeps his Buy rating and $4,075 target price.</p>\n<p>Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney maintains an Outperform rating and $4,500 target price. He thinks Street estimates for the second quarter “look largely reasonable,” although he has some concerns that the Street might be too bullish on the third quarter, in particular given Prime Day this year shifted into the second quarter.</p>\n<p>Monness Crespi White analyst Brian White notes that Amazon shares have been “range bound” over the past few months, but he thinks the company is “uniquely positioned” to exit the pandemic as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the digital transformation trend.
