With most brokerages eliminating minimum deposit requirements and trading commissions, any amount of money -- even $200 -- can be the right amount to grow your portfolio.</p>\n<p>If you have $200 ready to invest, the following are some of the smartest stocks you can buy in December.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5876cf8596571681f0d3218da4f74c8c\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>CrowdStrike Holdings</h2>\n<p>One of the smartest buys investors can make is scooping up shares of premier cybersecurity stock <b>CrowdStrike Holdings</b> (NASDAQ:CRWD).</p>\n<p>Cybersecurity may not be the fastest-growing trend, but there's arguably not a safer double-digit growth opportunity through the midpoint of the decade. Since hackers and robots don't take time off just because the U.S. economy or stock market hit a rough patch, businesses are increasingly turning to third-party providers to secure their data and that of their clients.</p>\n<p>What makes CrowdStrike special is its cloud-native Falcon security platform. Falcon relies on artificial intelligence to grow smarter over time and is currently overseeing about 1 trillion events <i>per day</i>. As a cloud-based platform, Falcon is often better at recognizing and responding to threats than on-premises solutions. While CrowdStrike's solutions aren't the cheapest on a nominal basis, the long-term reward of data protection makes Falcon a more cost-effective platform for businesses.</p>\n<p>The proof is in the pudding that clients are thrilled with CrowdStrike's suite of services. The total number of subscribers has skyrocketed from 450 to almost 14,700 in less than five years, with 68% of its clients purchasing four or more cloud-module subscriptions, as of Sept. 30. The latter is up from under 10% less than five years ago. The company's customer retention rate has also hovered around 98% for two years running.</p>\n<p>CrowdStrike's stock isn't inexpensive using standard fundamental metrics. However, a valuation premium is certainly warranted with its subscription gross margin already at its long-term target this early in its expansion.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/626f702dc64e03a6186f9231d5b698b4\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>AT&amp;T</h2>\n<p>Keep in mind that it's not just growth stocks that are begging to be bought. Value and income plays like telecom stock <b>AT&amp;T</b> (NYSE:T) represent a smart way to put $200 to work right now.</p>\n<p>To state the obvious, AT&amp;T's high-growth heyday is long gone. But just because the company has matured, it doesn't mean there aren't organic growth opportunities on its doorstep.</p>\n<p>For instance, AT&amp;T should benefit nicely from the ongoing rollout of 5G wireless infrastructure. Although upgrading its infrastructure won't be cheap, the investment will pay off handsomely. That's because it's been a decade since wireless download speeds were meaningfully improved. With 5G becoming widely available, consumers and businesses are liable to undertake a multiyear device upgrade cycle to take advantage of a faster network. Since the bulk of AT&amp;T's wireless margins derive from data consumption, 5G should provide a healthy shot of organic growth through at least 2025.</p>\n<p>AT&amp;T is also in the process of spinning off its content arm, WarnerMedia, and combining it with <b>Discovery</b>&nbsp;to create a new media powerhouse. The new company should have over 85 million streaming subscribers, a more diverse content library, and it'll be able to cut its operating costs by over $3 billion a year.</p>\n<p>At an estimated 7 times forecasted earnings per share this year, and a high-yield dividend to boot, AT&amp;T is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the smartest value and income plays to buy now.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5aacd35062c7935f82d018ba2d593ab6\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>Exelixis</h2>\n<p>Another genius purchase investors can make in December with $200 is biotech stock <b>Exelixis</b> (NASDAQ:EXEL).</p>\n<p>Exelixis has had a bit of a rough year, with its shares down close to 20%. The cancer-focused drug developer disappointed Wall Street in late June when it unveiled interim analysis data from the late-stage Cosmic-312 study in patients with previously untreated liver cancer. The company's lead drug, Cabometyx, was paired with atezolizumab (better known by its brand name, Tecentriq) in this study. While progression-free survival data hit the mark, the company noted it was unlikely that overall survival data would show a statistically significant improvement versus Nexavar.</p>\n<p>Though this was undoubtedly disappointing, as first-line hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an indication that could use more-effective treatments, the downside Exelixis' shares have seen since this data release looks to be an overreaction.</p>\n<p>Even assuming the Food and Drug Administration doesn't grant this combo treatment approval in first-line HCC -- the company plans to file a supplemental new drug application in Q1 2022 -- Cabometyx is in line for well over $1 billion in annual revenue from first- and second-line kidney cancer indications and more advanced cases of HCC.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, Cabometyx is being examined in close to six dozen clinical trials. Some failures are expected. But if even a handful of these studies result in label expansion opportunities, Cabometyx could surpass $2 billion in annual sales.</p>\n<p>With Exelixis sitting on a whopping $1.8 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash equivalents and investments (this is about 35% of its market cap), and the company's price-earnings-to-growth ratio well below 1, it has all the hallmarks of a screaming buy.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b13f98298635a74f4491a99bf47eeded\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WBA\">Walgreens Boots Alliance</a></h2>\n<p>A final smart stock investors can buy with $200 in December is pharmacy chain <b>Walgreens Boots Alliance</b> (NASDAQ:WBA). Similar to AT&amp;T, this is another value/income play that's not getting the love it deserves.</p>\n<p>Normally, healthcare stocks aren't adversely affected by economic downturns. Since we can't control when we get sick or what ailment(s) we develop, there's always demand for drugs, devices, and healthcare services. But during the pandemic, Walgreens wasn't as lucky. Reduced foot traffic hurt demand for front-end sales and clinic revenue.</p>\n<p>That's the bad news. The good news is Walgreens is incredibly inexpensive following the worst of the pandemic, and it's already well into a multipoint turnaround plan designed to increase margins and boost its organic growth rate.</p>\n<p>Initially, management anticipated reducing annual operating expenses by $2 billion as of the end of fiscal 2022. But cost-cutting activity has been far better than expected. Walgreens achieved more than $2 billion in annual cost reductions, and it did so by the end of fiscal 2021.</p>\n<p>However, it's not cost-cutting that should have investors excited. Rather, it's the company's investments. For example, Walgreens has spared no expense when it comes to its investments in digitization. Placing greater emphasis on direct-to-consumer sales should result in sustainable double-digit online revenue growth.</p>\n<p>Walgreens has also partnered with VillageMD to open more than 600 full-service clinics in over 30 U.S. markets by 2025. The cancer-focused drug developer disappointed Wall Street in late June when it unveiled interim analysis data from the late-stage Cosmic-312 study in patients with previously untreated liver cancer. The company's lead drug, Cabometyx, was paired with atezolizumab (better known by its brand name, Tecentriq) in this study. While progression-free survival data hit the mark, the company noted it was unlikely that overall survival data would show a statistically significant improvement versus Nexavar.\nThough this was undoubtedly disappointing, as first-line hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an indication that could use more-effective treatments, the downside Exelixis' shares have seen since this data release looks to be an overreaction.\nEven assuming the Food and Drug Administration doesn't grant this combo treatment approval in first-line HCC -- the company plans to file a supplemental new drug application in Q1 2022 -- Cabometyx is in line for well over $1 billion in annual revenue from first- and second-line kidney cancer indications and more advanced cases of HCC.\nFurthermore, Cabometyx is being examined in close to six dozen clinical trials. Some failures are expected. But if even a handful of these studies result in label expansion opportunities, Cabometyx could surpass $2 billion in annual sales.\nWith Exelixis sitting on a whopping $1.8 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash equivalents and investments (this is about 35% of its market cap), and the company's price-earnings-to-growth ratio well below 1, it has all the hallmarks of a screaming buy.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nWalgreens Boots Alliance\nA final smart stock investors can buy with $200 in December is pharmacy chain Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ:WBA). Similar to AT&T, this is another value/income play that's not getting the love it deserves.\nNormally, healthcare stocks aren't adversely affected by economic downturns. Since we can't control when we get sick or what ailment(s) we develop, there's always demand for drugs, devices, and healthcare services. But during the pandemic, Walgreens wasn't as lucky. Reduced foot traffic hurt demand for front-end sales and clinic revenue.\nThat's the bad news. The good news is Walgreens is incredibly inexpensive following the worst of the pandemic, and it's already well into a multipoint turnaround plan designed to increase margins and boost its organic growth rate.\nInitially, management anticipated reducing annual operating expenses by $2 billion as of the end of fiscal 2022. But cost-cutting activity has been far better than expected. Walgreens achieved more than $2 billion in annual cost reductions, and it did so by the end of fiscal 2021.\nHowever, it's not cost-cutting that should have investors excited. Rather, it's the company's investments. For example, Walgreens has spared no expense when it comes to its investments in digitization. Placing greater emphasis on direct-to-consumer sales should result in sustainable double-digit online revenue growth.\nWalgreens has also partnered with VillageMD to open more than 600 full-service clinics in over 30 U.S. markets by 2025. These co-located clinics will be physician-staffed and should play a key role in funneling local residents to the company's higher-margin pharmacy.\nAt less than 10 times Wall Street's forecasted earnings per share for fiscal 2022, Walgreens Boots Alliance is a While this might seem like so much science fiction, many of the elements are already in place and companies are racing to stake their claim in this brave new world.</p>\n<p>Investors are always looking for the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the next big trend, and the metaverse could provide one such opportunity. The designer of graphics processing units (GPUs) is the undisputed leader in the space, with a dominant 83% share in the discrete desktop GPU market.</p>\n<p>Parallel processing -- the ability to run a multitude of complex mathematical calculations at lightning-fast speeds -- not only helps render lifelike images in video games, but has also made GPUs a staple for building artificial intelligence (AI) systems and moving data in cloud computing systems and data centers. It also enables groundbreaking technology in self-driving cars.</p>\n<p>This has helped the stock climb more than 130% over the preceding 12 months and deliver a staggering 8,800% gain in the past decade. Investors might be surprised to learn this could be just the beginning.</p>\n<p>Nvidia GPUs underpin many of the technological advancements necessary to bring the metaverse to life. Using the same technology the creates life-like images in video games, these semiconductors perform a similar function in the digital realm.</p>\n<p>The company continues to produce stunning growth even as the metaverse moves from the drawing board to reality. In the third quarter, Nvidia delivered revenue that grew 50% year over year, which doesn't even include the massive opportunity the metaverse has to offer.</p>\n<p>Nvidia generated revenue of $6.7 million last year, but that pales in comparison to the company's total addressable market (TAM), which management estimates at $250 billion by 2023.</p>\n<p>Powering the metaverse will only expand Nvidia's already massive opportunity, adding <i>another</i> $10 billion target market over the coming five years.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f74d3252e0fb984fbaf91fdc2e7edfab\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1253\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<h2>Roblox: A budding metaverse</h2>\n<p>If the metaverse is a virtual world where users build homes, work, and play, then <b>Roblox</b> (NYSE:RBLX) already has a head start. The online entertainment platform allows users to build, explore, and create video games and 3D digital worlds.</p>\n<p>Well-known musicians host listening parties and perform virtual concerts for their users and Roblox was named to <i>Time</i>'s inaugural list of the Time100 Most Influential Companies, which are \"making an extraordinary impact around the world.\"</p>\n<p>One example of how users interact with Roblox's digital realm is the recently introduced \"Vans World.\" The shoe and apparel company focused on action sports sponsored a virtual space dedicated to its products. The immersive experience allowed users to \"go skateboarding, check out the shop, [and] see what new items Vans had for sale.\" Users can even browse and buy physical items. This provides just a glimpse of the vast digital worlds that Roblox could create.</p>\n<p>Roblox's third-quarter earnings bucked the common \"reopening\" narrative, which posited that companies that thrived during the pandemic were due for a correction. Revenue of $509 million increased 102% year over year, while bookings of $638 million increased 28%. While the company's net loss expanded by 52%, its free cash flow increased 7% to $171 million.</p>\n<p>Daily active users (DAUs) of 47.3 million climbed 31% year over year, while hours of engagement of 11.2 billion climbed 28%. This illustrates that not only is Roblox attracting new users, but existing players are highly engaged. The growing user base attracts more developers, creating a virtuous cycle.</p>\n<p>Roblox generated revenue of roughly $924 million in 2020, but management estimates put its market opportunity at $600 billion, which suggests a vast opportunity remains.</p>\n<p>With a budding metaverse of its own, Roblox may well have a jump on the competition.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f6bd958f30974639d07288535f634d3f\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1333\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<h2>Meta Platforms: All-in on the metaverse</h2>\n<p>No discussion regarding the metaverse would be complete without the inclusion of Meta Platforms. The company formerly known as Facebook signaled it was going all-in on the metaverse with its recent and highly publicized name change.</p>\n<p>Late last month, at a keynote address at the company's developer conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, \"From now on we are going to be metaverse first, not Facebook.\" Moving forward, Meta is turning its focus to building products and services that will usher in the era of the metaverse, describing it as, \"the next evolution of social connection ... [where] you'll be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what's possible today.\" Zuckerberg goes further, positing that there could be as many as 1 billion people joining the metaverse over the next 10 years.</p>\n<p>Meta Platforms has already invested in a number of products that could eventually act as a gateway to the metaverse. The Oculus virtual reality headset, Smart sunglasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban, and the Portal video-chatting device are likely just the beginning. Facebook Reality Labs is working on haptic gloves that could help users \"feel\" virtual objects in the metaverse.</p>\n<p>The company's social media platforms, led by Facebook, will provide Meta Platforms with the capital it needs to usher in this change. In the third quarter, revenue of $29 billion grew 35% year over year -- even as the specter of privacy reforms rolled out by <b>Apple</b> (NASDAQ:AAPL) hung over the proceedings. The online entertainment platform allows users to build, explore, and create video games and 3D digital worlds.\nWell-known musicians host listening parties and perform virtual concerts for their users and Roblox was named to Time's inaugural list of the Time100 Most Influential Companies, which are \"making an extraordinary impact around the world.\"\nOne example of how users interact with Roblox's digital realm is the recently introduced \"Vans World.\" The shoe and apparel company focused on action sports sponsored a virtual space dedicated to its products. The immersive experience allowed users to \"go skateboarding, check out the shop, [and] see what new items Vans had for sale.\" Users can even browse and buy physical items. This provides just a glimpse of the vast digital worlds that Roblox could create.\nRoblox's third-quarter earnings bucked the common \"reopening\" narrative, which posited that companies that thrived during the pandemic were due for a correction. Revenue of $509 million increased 102% year over year, while bookings of $638 million increased 28%. While the company's net loss expanded by 52%, its free cash flow increased 7% to $171 million.\nDaily active users (DAUs) of 47.3 million climbed 31% year over year, while hours of engagement of 11.2 billion climbed 28%. The company formerly known as Facebook signaled it was going all-in on the metaverse with its recent and highly publicized name change.\nLate last month, at a keynote address at the company's developer conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, \"From now on we are going to be metaverse first, not Facebook.\" Moving forward, Meta is turning its focus to building products and services that will usher in the era of the metaverse, describing it as, \"the next evolution of social connection ... [where] you'll be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what's possible today.\" Zuckerberg goes further, positing that there could be as many as 1 billion people joining the metaverse over the next 10 years.\nMeta Platforms has already invested in a number of products that could eventually act as a gateway to the metaverse. But when my Motley Fool colleague Trevor Jennewine recently wrote that <b>Nvidia</b> (NASDAQ:NVDA) is one of the top companies shaping the future of technology, I agreed 100%.</p>\n<p>Nvidia is best known for its graphics process units (GPUs) that power video games. However, the company now makes nearly as much money from selling GPUs for use in data centers. Both areas should continue to be major growth drivers for Nvidia.</p>\n<p>The company also has a big opportunity in the self-driving car market. Nvidia isn't just a chipmaker. It has also developed software on top of its chips to create a platform specifically designed for autonomous vehicles.</p>\n<p>Then there's the most potentially disruptive arena of all -- the metaverse. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang thinks the metaverse economy could eventually be bigger than the economy of the physical world. This stock still has plenty of room to run.</p>\n<h2>3. Intuitive Surgical</h2>\n<p>I'd nominate&nbsp;<b>Intuitive Surgical</b> (NASDAQ:ISRG) to any list of the top companies shaping the future of healthcare. Intuitive single-handedly pioneered the robotic surgical systems market. And it's in the strongest position to take robotic surgical technology to the next level.</p>\n<p>Intuitive actually doesn't have to advance the technology one bit to have a big growth opportunity. The company estimates that there are 6 million procedures performed each year for which it already has products and the necessary regulatory clearances. That's roughly five times the number of procedures for which its robotic systems were used last year.</p>\n<p>The company also stands to benefit from demographic trends. The populations of major countries across the world are aging. This will almost certainly drive demand for the surgical procedures for which Intuitive's systems are used the most right now.</p>\n<p>However, Intuitive <i>is</i> advancing robotic surgical systems technology. It believes there are 20 million soft-tissue surgical procedures performed annually that it can target with new products and clearances. Intuitive Surgical is worth around $125 billion today. However, some especially stand out because of their exceptional risk-reward profiles. Here are three such growth stocks that could set you up for life.\n1. MercadoLibre\nE-commerce will increase in importance. Cash will increasingly give way to digital payment methods. The Latin American economy will expand along with its burgeoning middle class. These are easy predictions to make that have a high probability of coming true. MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) is one company that's set to profit from each of these trends.\nSome have called MercadoLibre the \"eBay of Latin America.\" Others dubbed the company the \"Amazon.com of Latin America.\" Both comparisons have merit. But MercadoLibre's business model has its own unique twist.\nThe company dominates the Latin American e-commerce market. It also offers logistics services to businesses in the region. Its payments platform, including digital wallets, is growing in popularity. So is its credit business that provides loans to merchants and consumers.\nE-commerce market penetration in Latin America is expected to double by 2025 and continue to grow for decades to come. MercadoLibre's fintech opportunity could be even greater. This stock could deliver a 10X return with the tailwinds at its back.\n2. Nvidia\nSome companies receive accolades that they really don't deserve. But when my Motley Fool colleague Trevor Jennewine recently wrote that Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is one of the top companies shaping the future of technology, I agreed 100%.\nNvidia is best known for its graphics process units (GPUs) that power video games. However, the company now makes nearly as much money from selling GPUs for use in data centers. Both areas should continue to be major growth drivers for Nvidia.\nThe company also has a big opportunity in the self-driving car market. Nvidia isn't just a chipmaker. It has also developed software on top of its chips to create a platform specifically designed for autonomous vehicles.\nThen there's the most potentially disruptive arena of all -- the metaverse. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang thinks the metaverse economy could eventually be bigger than the economy of the physical world. And Nvidia's technology is poised to provide the foundation for the metaverse.\nDon't fret that Nvidia already has a market cap of close to $760 billion. This stock still has plenty of room to run.\n3. Intuitive Surgical\nI'd nominate Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) to any list of the top companies shaping the future of healthcare. Intuitive single-handedly pioneered the robotic surgical systems market. And it's in the strongest position to take robotic surgical technology to the next level.\nIntuitive actually doesn't have to advance the technology one bit to have a big growth opportunity. The company estimates that there are 6 million procedures performed each year for which it already has products and the necessary regulatory clearances. That's roughly five times the number of procedures for which its robotic systems were used last year.\nThe company also stands to benefit from demographic trends. The populations of major countries across the world are aging. This will almost certainly drive demand for the surgical procedures for which Intuitive's systems are used the most right now.\nHowever, Intuitive is advancing robotic surgical systems technology. It believes there are 20 million soft-tissue surgical procedures performed annually that it can target with new products and clearances. Intuitive Surgical is worth around $125 billion today. I think it could be a $1 trillion-plus company in the While this might seem like so much science fiction, many of the elements are already in place and companies are racing to stake their claim in this brave new world.</p>\n<p>Investors are always looking for the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the next big trend, and the metaverse could provide one such opportunity. The designer of graphics processing units (GPUs) is the undisputed leader in the space, with a dominant 83% share in the discrete desktop GPU market.</p>\n<p>Parallel processing -- the ability to run a multitude of complex mathematical calculations at lightning-fast speeds -- not only helps render lifelike images in video games, but has also made GPUs a staple for building artificial intelligence (AI) systems and moving data in cloud computing systems and data centers. It also enables groundbreaking technology in self-driving cars.</p>\n<p>This has helped the stock climb more than 130% over the preceding 12 months and deliver a staggering 8,800% gain in the past decade. Investors might be surprised to learn this could be just the beginning.</p>\n<p>Nvidia GPUs underpin many of the technological advancements necessary to bring the metaverse to life. Using the same technology the creates life-like images in video games, these semiconductors perform a similar function in the digital realm.</p>\n<p>The company continues to produce stunning growth even as the metaverse moves from the drawing board to reality. In the third quarter, Nvidia delivered revenue that grew 50% year over year, which doesn't even include the massive opportunity the metaverse has to offer.</p>\n<p>Nvidia generated revenue of $6.7 million last year, but that pales in comparison to the company's total addressable market (TAM), which management estimates at $250 billion by 2023.</p>\n<p>Powering the metaverse will only expand Nvidia's already massive opportunity, adding <i>another</i> $10 billion target market over the coming five years.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f74d3252e0fb984fbaf91fdc2e7edfab\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1253\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<h2>Roblox: A budding metaverse</h2>\n<p>If the metaverse is a virtual world where users build homes, work, and play, then <b>Roblox</b> (NYSE:RBLX) already has a head start. The online entertainment platform allows users to build, explore, and create video games and 3D digital worlds.</p>\n<p>Well-known musicians host listening parties and perform virtual concerts for their users and Roblox was named to <i>Time</i>'s inaugural list of the Time100 Most Influential Companies, which are \"making an extraordinary impact around the world.\"</p>\n<p>One example of how users interact with Roblox's digital realm is the recently introduced \"Vans World.\" The shoe and apparel company focused on action sports sponsored a virtual space dedicated to its products. The immersive experience allowed users to \"go skateboarding, check out the shop, [and] see what new items Vans had for sale.\" Users can even browse and buy physical items. This provides just a glimpse of the vast digital worlds that Roblox could create.</p>\n<p>Roblox's third-quarter earnings bucked the common \"reopening\" narrative, which posited that companies that thrived during the pandemic were due for a correction. Revenue of $509 million increased 102% year over year, while bookings of $638 million increased 28%. While the company's net loss expanded by 52%, its free cash flow increased 7% to $171 million.</p>\n<p>Daily active users (DAUs) of 47.3 million climbed 31% year over year, while hours of engagement of 11.2 billion climbed 28%. This illustrates that not only is Roblox attracting new users, but existing players are highly engaged. The company formerly known as Facebook signaled it was going all-in on the metaverse with its recent and highly publicized name change.</p>\n<p>Late last month, at a keynote address at the company's developer conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, \"From now on we are going to be metaverse first, not Facebook.\" Moving forward, Meta is turning its focus to building products and services that will usher in the era of the metaverse, describing it as, \"the next evolution of social connection ... [where] you'll be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what's possible today.\" Zuckerberg goes further, positing that there could be as many as 1 billion people joining the metaverse over the next 10 years.</p>\n<p>Meta Platforms has already invested in a number of products that could eventually act as a gateway to the metaverse. The Oculus virtual reality headset, Smart sunglasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban, and the Portal video-chatting device are likely just the beginning. Facebook Reality Labs is working on haptic gloves that could help users \"feel\" virtual objects in the metaverse.</p>\n<p>The company's social media platforms, led by Facebook, will provide Meta Platforms with the capital it needs to usher in this change. In the third quarter, revenue of $29 billion grew 35% year over year -- even as the specter of privacy reforms rolled out by <b>Apple</b> (NASDAQ:AAPL) hung over the proceedings. While this might seem like so much science fiction, many of the elements are already in place and companies are racing to stake their claim in this brave new world.\nInvestors are always looking for the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the next big trend, and the metaverse could provide one such opportunity. The designer of graphics processing units (GPUs) is the undisputed leader in the space, with a dominant 83% share in the discrete desktop GPU market.\nParallel processing -- the ability to run a multitude of complex mathematical calculations at lightning-fast speeds -- not only helps render lifelike images in video games, but has also made GPUs a staple for building artificial intelligence (AI) systems and moving data in cloud computing systems and data centers. It also enables groundbreaking technology in self-driving cars.\nThis has helped the stock climb more than 130% over the preceding 12 months and deliver a staggering 8,800% gain in the past decade. Investors might be surprised to learn this could be just the beginning.\nNvidia GPUs underpin many of the technological advancements necessary to bring the metaverse to life. Using the same technology the creates life-like images in video games, these semiconductors perform a similar function in the digital realm.\nThe company continues to produce stunning growth even as the metaverse moves from the drawing board to reality. The online entertainment platform allows users to build, explore, and create video games and 3D digital worlds.\nWell-known musicians host listening parties and perform virtual concerts for their users and Roblox was named to Time's inaugural list of the Time100 Most Influential Companies, which are \"making an extraordinary impact around the world.\"\nOne example of how users interact with Roblox's digital realm is the recently introduced \"Vans World.\" The shoe and apparel company focused on action sports sponsored a virtual space dedicated to its products. The immersive experience allowed users to \"go skateboarding, check out the shop, [and] see what new items Vans had for sale.\" Users can even browse and buy physical items. This provides just a glimpse of the vast digital worlds that Roblox could create.\nRoblox's third-quarter earnings bucked the common \"reopening\" narrative, which posited that companies that thrived during the pandemic were due for a correction. Revenue of $509 million increased 102% year over year, while bookings of $638 million increased 28%. While the company's net loss expanded by 52%, its free cash flow increased 7% to $171 million.\nDaily active users (DAUs) of 47.3 million climbed 31% year over year, while hours of engagement of 11.2 billion climbed 28%. This illustrates that not only is Roblox attracting new users, but existing players are highly engaged. The company formerly known as Facebook signaled it was going all-in on the metaverse with its recent and highly publicized name change.\nLate last month, at a keynote address at the company's developer conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, \"From now on we are going to be metaverse first, not Facebook.\" Moving forward, Meta is turning its focus to building products and services that will usher in the era of the metaverse, describing it as, \"the next evolution of social connection ... [where] you'll be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what's possible today.\" Zuckerberg goes further, positing that there could be as many as 1 billion people joining the metaverse over the next 10 years.\nMeta Platforms has already invested in a number of products that could eventually act as a gateway to the metaverse. The Oculus virtual reality headset, Smart sunglasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban, and the Portal video-chatting device are likely just the beginning. Since hackers and robots don't take time off just because the U.S. economy or stock market hit a rough patch, businesses are increasingly turning to third-party providers to secure their data and that of their clients.</p>\n<p>What makes CrowdStrike special is its cloud-native Falcon security platform. Falcon relies on artificial intelligence to grow smarter over time and is currently overseeing about 1 trillion events <i>per day</i>. As a cloud-based platform, Falcon is often better at recognizing and responding to threats than on-premises solutions. While CrowdStrike's solutions aren't the cheapest on a nominal basis, the long-term reward of data protection makes Falcon a more cost-effective platform for businesses.</p>\n<p>The proof is in the pudding that clients are thrilled with CrowdStrike's suite of services. The total number of subscribers has skyrocketed from 450 to almost 14,700 in less than five years, with 68% of its clients purchasing four or more cloud-module subscriptions, as of Sept. 30. The latter is up from under 10% less than five years ago. The company's customer retention rate has also hovered around 98% for two years running.</p>\n<p>CrowdStrike's stock isn't inexpensive using standard fundamental metrics. But just because the company has matured, it doesn't mean there aren't organic growth opportunities on its doorstep.</p>\n<p>For instance, AT&amp;T should benefit nicely from the ongoing rollout of 5G wireless infrastructure. Although upgrading its infrastructure won't be cheap, the investment will pay off handsomely. That's because it's been a decade since wireless download speeds were meaningfully improved. With 5G becoming widely available, consumers and businesses are liable to undertake a multiyear device upgrade cycle to take advantage of a faster network. Since the bulk of AT&amp;T's wireless margins derive from data consumption, 5G should provide a healthy shot of organic growth through at least 2025.</p>\n<p>AT&amp;T is also in the process of spinning off its content arm, WarnerMedia, and combining it with <b>Discovery</b>&nbsp;to create a new media powerhouse. The cancer-focused drug developer disappointed Wall Street in late June when it unveiled interim analysis data from the late-stage Cosmic-312 study in patients with previously untreated liver cancer. The company's lead drug, Cabometyx, was paired with atezolizumab (better known by its brand name, Tecentriq) in this study. While progression-free survival data hit the mark, the company noted it was unlikely that overall survival data would show a statistically significant improvement versus Nexavar.</p>\n<p>Though this was undoubtedly disappointing, as first-line hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an indication that could use more-effective treatments, the downside Exelixis' shares have seen since this data release looks to be an overreaction.</p>\n<p>Even assuming the Food and Drug Administration doesn't grant this combo treatment approval in first-line HCC -- the company plans to file a supplemental new drug application in Q1 2022 -- Cabometyx is in line for well over $1 billion in annual revenue from first- and second-line kidney cancer indications and more advanced cases of HCC.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, Cabometyx is being examined in close to six dozen clinical trials. Some failures are expected. Since we can't control when we get sick or what ailment(s) we develop, there's always demand for drugs, devices, and healthcare services. But during the pandemic, Walgreens wasn't as lucky. Reduced foot traffic hurt demand for front-end sales and clinic revenue.</p>\n<p>That's the bad news. The good news is Walgreens is incredibly inexpensive following the worst of the pandemic, and it's already well into a multipoint turnaround plan designed to increase margins and boost its organic growth rate.</p>\n<p>Initially, management anticipated reducing annual operating expenses by $2 billion as of the end of fiscal 2022. But cost-cutting activity has been far better than expected. Walgreens achieved more than $2 billion in annual cost reductions, and it did so by the end of fiscal 2021.</p>\n<p>However, it's not cost-cutting that should have investors excited. Rather, it's the company's investments. For example, Walgreens has spared no expense when it comes to its investments in digitization. Placing greater emphasis on direct-to-consumer sales should result in sustainable double-digit online revenue growth.</p>\n<p>Walgreens has also partnered with VillageMD to open more than 600 full-service clinics in over 30 U.S. markets by 2025.
