If one is, though, I suspect the cause will be the combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and sky-high market valuations. Assuming I'm right, BioNTech (NASDAQ:BNTX) should soar if the market crashes.
\n
A massive market sell-off due to COVID-19 worries would almost certainly light a fire beneath the stocks of the leading vaccine makers. My view is that BioNTech would be one of the biggest winners in the group.
\n
BioNTech and its partner Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) are already moving forward with plans to test a vaccine that specifically targets the delta variant. That gives the companies a head start. BioNTech is by far the smallest of the companies with COVID-19 vaccines already on the market, which makes its shares more likely to jump higher on a positive catalyst. It's also easily the cheapest of these vaccine stocks, based on forward earnings multiples.
\n
What if there isn't an imminent market crash? BioNTech is still set to rake in billions of dollars with sales of its COVID-19 vaccine. The company will almost certainly use its growing cash stockpile to invest in expanding its pipeline. I think that BioNTech will be a winner over the long term, regardless of what happens over the short term.
\n
Dollar General
\n
I've maintained for a long time that Dollar General (NYSE:DG) is one of the best stocks to own during a market downturn. That view seemed to be confirmed during the big market meltdown last year.
\n

\n
DG data by YCharts.
\n
Shares of Dollar General fell at first, but not nearly as much as most stocks did. Dollar General stock also rebounded much more quickly and trounced the overall market's return throughout the rest of the year.
\n
During uncertain times, consumers tighten their purse strings. That makes discount retailers such as Dollar General more attractive than ever.
\n
Even when the overall market performs well, though, Dollar General should still be able to grow. As a case in point, the company's shares delivered more than double the gain that the S&P 500 index did in the five years leading up to 2020 when the market was roaring.
\n
I think that Dollar General will be able to continue to beat the market. It's moving forward with an aggressive expansion strategy. The company is also undertaking a major initiative to \"establish itself as a health destination.\" While Dollar General didn't provide many details on exactly what its plans are, moving more into healthcare sounds like a smart move to me.
\n
Viatris
\n
There are at least two reasons why a given stock might hold up well during a big market sell-off. One is that its underlying business isn't impacted much by the reason behind the broader plunge. Another is that the stock is so cheap that investors scoop up shares if it falls much below its existing price. My take is that Viatris (NASDAQ:VTRS) qualifies on both of these criteria.
\n
Viatris specializes in biosimilars and generic drugs. Patients need these drugs, regardless of what the stock market does. The drugs are also less expensive than branded prescription drugs.
\n
The stock is irrefutably dirt cheap. Viatris' shares trade at a little over four times expected earnings. It's unlikely that the stock is going to move much lower because it would simply be too much of a steal for investors to ignore.
\n
Granted, Viatris probably won't keep up with the overall stock market's performance if the current uptrend continues. However, the company's dividend is attractive. And over the next several years, Viatris should achieve synergies resulting from the merger of Pfizer's Upjohn unit and Mylan, as well as launch new products that should drive growth.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Buy Whether or Not a Market Crash Is Near
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Buy Whether or Not a Market Crash Is Near\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-23 21:11 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Rising COVID-19 cases. The company is also undertaking a major initiative to \"establish itself as a health destination.\" While Dollar General didn't provide many details on exactly what its plans are, moving more into healthcare sounds like a smart move to me.\nViatris\nThere are at least two reasons why a given stock might hold up well during a big market sell-off. One is that its underlying business isn't impacted much by the reason behind the broader plunge. Another is that the stock is so cheap that investors scoop up shares if it falls much below its existing price. My take is that Viatris (NASDAQ:VTRS) qualifies on both of these criteria.\nViatris specializes in biosimilars and generic drugs. Patients need these drugs, regardless of what the stock market does. The drugs are also less expensive than branded prescription drugs.\nThe stock is irrefutably dirt cheap. Viatris' shares trade at a little over four times expected earnings. It's unlikely that the stock is going to move much lower because it would simply be too much of a steal for investors to ignore.\nGranted, Viatris probably won't keep up with the overall stock market's performance if the current uptrend continues. However, the company's dividend is attractive. And over the next several years, Viatris should achieve synergies resulting from the merger of Pfizer's Upjohn unit and Mylan, as well as launch new products that should drive growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":112,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174171762,"gmtCreate":1627088327656,"gmtModify":1633768145908,"author":{"id":"3586990043875268","authorId":"3586990043875268","name":"WarriorX","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad1579cb8cfe6d8c1de94c9127c18046","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586990043875268","authorIdStr":"3586990043875268"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/174171762","repostId":"2153980423","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2153980423","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1627081209,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2153980423?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-24 07:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street surges to all-time closing high on earnings, economic revival","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2153980423","media":"Reuters","summary":"* All 3 major indexes post weekly gains\n* Dow closes above 35,000 for first time ever\n* Social media","content":"
* All 3 major indexes post weekly gains
\n
* Dow closes above 35,000 for first time ever
\n
* Social media stocks rally after upbeat results
\n
* Intel sales forecast implies rocky second half
\n
* Indexes up: Dow 0.68%, S&P 1.01%, Nasdaq 1.04%
\n
Wall Street gained ground for the fourth straight session on Friday, extending a rally that pushed all three major U.S. stock indexes to record closing highs as upbeat earnings and signs of economic revival fueled investor risk appetite.
\n
The Dow closed above 35,000 for the first time ever.
\n
\"We see a continuation of the last couple days. SPAC-backed gaming IPO remains a polarizing stock.","content":"
Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ) has been a battleground stock ever since its public debut last December. The gaming service company's stock opened at $17.89 a share on the first day of trading, surged to $46.30 in February during the \"meme stock\" frenzy, and then tumbled all the way back to the mid-teens.
\n
Let's see why Skillz has attracted so much attention from the bulls and bears, and where its volatile stock could be headed.
\n
SPACs get scrutinized
\n
Skillz didn't go public through a traditional IPO or direct listing. Instead, it agreed to be acquired by a publicly traded SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) called Flying Eagle Acquisition Corp. Flying Eagle's investors received new shares of Skillz after the merger closed.
\n

\n
\n
SPAC-backed IPOs often attract a lot of attention and scrutiny. The bulls claim they democratize the IPO process by letting retail investors buy shares of a publicly listed SPAC before it merges with a privately held target. In theory, that process prevents institutional investors from hoarding IPO shares.
\n
The bears will point out SPACs are blank-check companies that don't have any real value unless they find a takeover target within a two-year time limit. That pressure could cause SPACs to make premature acquisitions or dress up weak businesses as strong ones. Several prolific short-sellers, including Wolfpack Research, have made similar accusations against Skillz.
\n
The shorts vs. Cathie Wood
\n
Wolfpack's attack on Skillz in early March, along with an opportunistic secondary stock offering at $24 a share later that month, ended its Reddit-fueled rally. But in April, the famed growth investor Cathie Wood bought shares of Skillz for two of her ARK exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and denounced Wolfpack's allegations as \"exaggerated or incorrect\" in an investor newsletter.
\n
Today, Skillz accounts for 2.08% of the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKW) and 1.08% of the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKK). However, Wood's support still couldn't prevent Skillz from slipping below its initial opening price over the following months.
\n
Skillz's business model
\n
Skillz's online platform hosts multiplayer games and tournaments for other companies. The bulls believe this approach is disruptive since it enables smaller game developers to easily integrate multiplayer and competitive features without building those services from scratch.
\n
Skillz's growth rates support that thesis. Its revenue rose 92% to $230 million in 2020, and it expects 63% growth this year. Analysts expect its revenue to rise another 46% to $551 million in fiscal 2022.
\n
However, Skillz's net loss widened from $24 million in 2019 to $122 million in 2020, and analysts expect it to remain unprofitable for the foreseeable future. Skillz's losses raise red flags since it already retains a 50% cut of all revenue from its hosted games. Most other mobile app stores only retain a 15%-30% cut of an app's earned revenue, so Skillz doesn't have much room to raise its rates.
\n
Skillz also relied on just three games from two studios (Big Run and Tether) for 79% of its revenue in 2020. Its total monthly active users (MAUs) grew just 4% year over year to 2.7 million during the first quarter of 2021. Those numbers suggest Skillz isn't as disruptive as the bulls would like to believe.
\n
On the bright side, Skillz's number of paid MAUs rose 81% to 467,000 during the quarter, its average revenue per paid user grew 7% to $60, and its total average revenue per user jumped 86% to $10.35.
\n
Those growth rates suggest the stickiness of Skillz's platform could lock in its top games and players even if its overall MAU growth stalls out. Those strengths could also help Skillz maintain its pricing power.
\n
Skillz also recently agreed to buy Aarki, an in-game advertising platform that reaches over 465 million MAUs. This purchase could strengthen Skillz's own digital advertising ecosystem, which monetizes the MAUs who don't participate in its paid tournaments, and attract more mobile game developers.
\n
Is Skillz a bargain?
\n
Skillz trades at 16 times this year's sales, which makes it cheaper than many other high-growth tech stocks, but that lower price-to-sales ratio reflects the company's uncertain future.
\n
I personally wouldn't buy Skillz, since its decelerating MAU growth, high fees, widening losses, and customer concentration issues are tough to ignore. However, I fully expect Skillz to remain a headline-dominating stock as the bulls and bears clash over its strengths and weaknesses.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Is Everyone Talking About Skillz Stock?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Is Everyone Talking About Skillz Stock?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-17 16:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Skillz (NYSE:SKLZ) has been a battleground stock ever since its public debut last December. Investors know that stocks are anything but cheap, so a good question to ask is what will the market reward for the rest of the year and 2022?
\n
Goldman Sachs analyst David Kostin wrote in the firm's \"U.S. Weekly Kickstart\" note to clients July 9 that investors have \"started to reward companies with attractive margin profiles.\" By this, he means net margin, which is a company's net income divided by net revenue.
\n
Comparisons of net income margins may be most meaningful within industries, because some by their nature have low margins when measured this way. Kostin wrote: \"Our sector-neutral factor of stocks with the highest vs. lowest profit margins has also started to outperform.\"
\n
He and a team of Goldman Sachs analysts screened the S&P 500 for stocks with \"above-average net interest margins, realized margin growth of 50+ bp [basis points] in 2020, and expected margin growth of 50+ bp in each of the next two years.\"
\n
This led to a group of 32 large-cap stocks in six sectors expected to increase net margins by a median of 201 basis points this year and another 105 basis points in 2022, after defying the odds with profit margin expansion of at least 50 basis points during the pandemic year of 2020. The six sectors were communications services, consumer staples, health care, industrials, information technology and materials.
\n
Stocks that made Goldman's list include Netflix Inc. $(NFLX)$, Broadcom Inc. $(AVGO)$ and Philip Morris International Inc. $(PM)$.
\n
Broad screen
\n
To begin with a larger group of stocks and possibly produce a list with the most upside potential, we began with the S&P Composite 1500 Index , which is made up of the S&P 500, the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index $(MID)$ and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index . These stocks look like good picks either way.","content":"
Rising COVID-19 cases. Concerns about the highly contagious delta variant. The possibility of another housing bubble bursting. These are some of the reasons why worries are increasing among investors that a stock market crash could be on the way.
\n
One of the biggest stock market bears, Harry Dent Jr., who predicted the dot.com bubble collapsing, even thinks that a market meltdown is likely within the next three months. Is all of the pessimism warranted? Maybe, maybe not.
\n
If you're leery about what's around the corner, here are three stocks to buy if a market crash is coming soon. And the great news about these stocks is that they're solid picks even if it doesn't happen.
\n

\n
\n
BioNTech
\n
I personally don't think a stock market crash is just around the corner.
Concerns about the highly contagious delta variant. The possibility of another housing bubble bursting. These are some of the reasons why worries are increasing among investors that a stock market crash could be on the way.\nOne of the biggest stock market bears, Harry Dent Jr., who predicted the dot.com bubble collapsing, even thinks that a market meltdown is likely within the next three months. Is all of the pessimism warranted? Maybe, maybe not.\nIf you're leery about what's around the corner, here are three stocks to buy if a market crash is coming soon. And the great news about these stocks is that they're solid picks even if it doesn't happen.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBioNTech\nI personally don't think a stock market crash is just around the corner. If one is, though, I suspect the cause will be the combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and sky-high market valuations. Assuming I'm right, BioNTech (NASDAQ:BNTX) should soar if the market crashes.\nA massive market sell-off due to COVID-19 worries would almost certainly light a fire beneath the stocks of the leading vaccine makers. My view is that BioNTech would be one of the biggest winners in the group.\nBioNTech and its partner Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) are already moving forward with plans to test a vaccine that specifically targets the delta variant. That gives the companies a head start. BioNTech is by far the smallest of the companies with COVID-19 vaccines already on the market, which makes its shares more likely to jump higher on a positive catalyst. It's also easily the cheapest of these vaccine stocks, based on forward earnings multiples.\nWhat if there isn't an imminent market crash? BioNTech is still set to rake in billions of dollars with sales of its COVID-19 vaccine. The company will almost certainly use its growing cash stockpile to invest in expanding its pipeline. I think that BioNTech will be a winner over the long term, regardless of what happens over the short term.\nDollar General\nI've maintained for a long time that Dollar General (NYSE:DG) is one of the best stocks to own during a market downturn. That view seemed to be confirmed during the big market meltdown last year.\n\nDG data by YCharts.\nShares of Dollar General fell at first, but not nearly as much as most stocks did. Dollar General stock also rebounded much more quickly and trounced the overall market's return throughout the rest of the year.\nDuring uncertain times, consumers tighten their purse strings. That makes discount retailers such as Dollar General more attractive than ever.\nEven when the overall market performs well, though, Dollar General should still be able to grow. As a case in point, the company's shares delivered more than double the gain that the S&P 500 index did in the five years leading up to 2020 when the market was roaring.\nI think that Dollar General will be able to continue to beat the market. It's moving forward with an aggressive expansion strategy. And over the next several years, Viatris should achieve synergies resulting from the merger of Pfizer's Upjohn unit and Mylan, as well as launch new products that should drive SPAC-backed gaming IPO remains a polarizing stock.","content":"

The gaming service company's stock opened at $17.89 a share on the first day of trading, surged to $46.30 in February during the \"meme stock\" frenzy, and then tumbled all the way back to the mid-teens.\nLet's see why Skillz has attracted so much attention from the bulls and bears, and where its volatile stock could be headed.\nSPACs get scrutinized\nSkillz didn't go public through a traditional IPO or direct listing. Instead, it agreed to be acquired by a publicly traded SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) called Flying Eagle Acquisition Corp. Flying Eagle's investors received new shares of Skillz after the merger closed.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nSPAC-backed IPOs often attract a lot of attention and scrutiny. The bulls claim they democratize the IPO process by letting retail investors buy shares of a publicly listed SPAC before it merges with a privately held target. In theory, that process prevents institutional investors from hoarding IPO shares.\nThe bears will point out SPACs are blank-check companies that don't have any real value unless they find a takeover target within a two-year time limit. That pressure could cause SPACs to make premature acquisitions or dress up weak businesses as strong ones. Several prolific short-sellers, including Wolfpack Research, have made similar accusations against Skillz.\nThe shorts vs. Cathie Wood\nWolfpack's attack on Skillz in early March, along with an opportunistic secondary stock offering at $24 a share later that month, ended its Reddit-fueled rally. But in April, the famed growth investor Cathie Wood bought shares of Skillz for two of her ARK exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and denounced Wolfpack's allegations as \"exaggerated or incorrect\" in an investor newsletter.\nToday, Skillz accounts for 2.08% of the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKW) and 1.08% of the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKK). However, Wood's support still couldn't prevent Skillz from slipping below its initial opening price over the following months.\nSkillz's business model\nSkillz's online platform hosts multiplayer games and tournaments for other companies. The bulls believe this approach is disruptive since it enables smaller game developers to easily integrate multiplayer and competitive features without building those services from scratch.\nSkillz's growth rates support that thesis. Its revenue rose 92% to $230 million in 2020, and it expects 63% growth this year. Analysts expect its revenue to rise another 46% to $551 million in fiscal 2022.\nHowever, Skillz's net loss widened from $24 million in 2019 to $122 million in 2020, and analysts expect it to remain unprofitable for the foreseeable future. Skillz's losses raise red flags since it already retains a 50% cut of all revenue from its hosted games. Most other mobile app stores only retain a 15%-30% cut of an app's earned revenue, so Skillz doesn't have much room to raise its rates.\nSkillz also relied on just three games from two studios (Big Run and Tether) for 79% of its revenue in 2020. Its total monthly active users (MAUs) grew just 4% year over year to 2.7 million during the first quarter of 2021. Those numbers suggest Skillz isn't as disruptive as the bulls would like to believe.\nOn the bright side, Skillz's number of paid MAUs rose 81% to 467,000 during the quarter, its average revenue per paid user grew 7% to $60, and its total average revenue per user jumped 86% to $10.35.\nThose growth rates suggest the stickiness of Skillz's platform could lock in its top games and players even if its overall MAU growth stalls out. Those strengths could also help Skillz maintain its pricing power.\nSkillz also recently agreed to buy Aarki, an in-game advertising platform that reaches over 465 million MAUs. This purchase could strengthen Skillz's own digital advertising ecosystem, which monetizes the MAUs who don't participate in its paid tournaments, and attract more mobile game developers.\nIs Skillz a bargain?\nSkillz trades at 16 times this year's sales, which makes it cheaper than many other high-growth tech stocks, but that lower price-to-sales ratio reflects the company's uncertain future.\nI personally wouldn't buy Skillz, since its decelerating MAU growth, high fees, widening losses, and customer concentration issues are tough to ignore.
